Marathon Runner On Living And Running With MS Prevention Magazine
Marathon Runner On Living And Running With MS – Prevention Magazine https://collincountynewsonline.com/marathon-runner-on-living-and-running-with-ms-prevention-magazine/ I started training for my first marathon in 2016. I’m competitive by nature, so I had high expectations of myself and was excited to show off my skills to my family in my hometown of Chicago. But things didn’t go as I’d planned. During the race, I had trouble lifting my foot. I stopped for a while in the medical tent and ended up walking, rather than running, to the finish line. It wasn’t the way I’d hoped to finish but I figured that a visit to a doctor in Houston, where I live, would get me through my injury. By the time I went to the doctor, though, I was noticing other symptoms that caught me off guard. For instance, not only was I having trouble lifting my foot (known as foot drop), I was feeling exhausted daily and often I wasn’t able to feel my extremities. The doctor told me I didn’t have a sports injury and that instead I should see a neurologist. After several frustrating months of appointments and testing—including an MRI and bloodwork— I was diagnosed with primary progressive multiple sclerosis, which is a disease that develops when the immune system attacks the central nervous system and causes nerve damage. The “progressive” part of my diagnosis meant that my symptoms would continue to get worse and would drastically limit my functioning. Oddly enough, getting the diagnosis was a bit of a relief because I finally knew the reason I was experiencing tremors, numbness, and fatigue. Of course, I was also scared, but I was referred to an MS clinic near me and I trusted that the doctors there would help me. Living life with MS To my shock, I was told that based on my neurological loss, I would have only about five more years until I’d be confined to a wheelchair. They told me to travel and do all the things I wanted to do while I was still able. Not wanting to think about the future, my husband Joe and I chose to focus on the present and travel to as many places on our bucket list as possible, as quickly as we could. More From Prevention In April of 2019, we took our first bucket-list trip to Ireland. As luck would have it, there was an MS run/walk happening there and we signed up. In the race packet, I read about “HSCT” (technically called hematopoietic stem cell transplantation) for the first time, which was described as an experimental treatment that could stop MS progression by essentially wiping out your immune system then receiving healthy stem cells to “reset” it. There are trials underway here, but it’s not available in the U.S. as a standard treatment option—and it’s extremely expensive, risky, and new. So I put it on the back burner and continued to focus on making the moments I had count. I continued running, but it was getting harder and harder. Even though I didn’t want to acknowledge it, I had to come to terms with the fact that my racing days were limited. I remember telling my running partner that once it became impossible for me to run, I’d just cheer her on. But I was hard headed and wasn’t going to stop without a fight. What my invisible disability looks like I usually didn’t even appear to have a disability to the outside world. In fact, when I was first diagnosed and got the handicap placard for my car, people actually yelled at me for using a handicap space because they didn’t think I had a true disability. That would upset me, but I’m not one to yell out my personal diagnosis across a parking lot to someone who is unimportant to my life, so I tried to ignore that as much as I could. One thing that helped, however, was that I got a therapy dog, named Hope, who was trained through the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to recognize and assist with tremors and seizures. I put a vest on her that said, “I’m visible. Her disability isn’t.” As Joe and I were about to fly to Paris on our second bucket-list trip—where I was planning to run my last half marathon ever—I came to a realization. There I was in the airport, using a cane (albeit a cute one), wearing an e-brace on my leg (a device that sends electrical shocks to help me lift my foot), and watching Joe lug around a big wheelchair the doctors had suggested we bring just in case I needed it. And it struck me that if I didn’t try to stop the progression of my MS, we were headed for a lifetime with that wheelchair and a future where my husband and daughter would have to wait on me hand and foot. So Joe and I decided we had to at least see if I was a candidate for HSCT. The treatment is not for everyone with MS, but I qualified for it, and we hurried to make arrangements to go the HSCT clinic in Mexico in January 2020. I had a lot of fears and there was a 20 to 30 percent chance that the treatment wouldn’t work, but I felt that this was my shot, and I had to take it. Patrick Pressgrove Where I am today The treatment wasn’t easy, but I really did go into the clinic with my cane, and walked out of the clinic a month later on my own. It was surreal. Afterwards, my physical therapist helped me to strengthen the muscles I’d stopped using and retrain my weakened body, and slowly but surely, I learned to walk and run with an improved gait that helps me control my foot. I wasn’t the same runner I was before my MS diagnosis but I was determined to run marathons again because training puts me in a positive mindset and gives me something to work toward. I soon learned that I qualified for the 2021 Boston Marathon as an adaptive athlete (a person with disabilities who is allowed modifications during sports competitions) and I went for it. Unfortunately, during the race, I had to stop at mile 20 because I suffered an extreme bout of foot drop. I had to move forward carefully so as not to cause further damage, which is a risk when the muscles are strained. I was disappointed that I had to walk the rest of the way to the finish line, but the experience led me to an even more exciting opportunity: I was picked by Degree Deodorant to get another chance at finishing a marathon as one of their “Not Done Yet” runners for the San Francisco Marathon in July 2022. I was thrilled because being a part of the campaign would enable me to spread the word about HSCT and show others that those of us with disabilities can break barriers. I trained hard for this one. And it paid off. When I ran across that finish line, it was momentous. It was definitely an “ugly cry” moment. Now, I’m ready for more. I’m back in training for my next marathon. I still have tremors when my muscles are fatigued. I also have to be very particular in my movements in order to do things that were once simple, and that takes a lot of extra effort and focus. But I push through it because it’s worth it and because I’m not going to let MS define me. I might stumble but I don’t quit, and I hope that inspires other people with disabilities to go for their goals, too. Back to the We Are Not Invisible project

Kelce33 REC, 347 YD, 7 TDS See New Posts Pinned Mirror image of the last Bills-Chiefs matchup, from the playoffs: K.C. has just over 10 seconds to operate before the break, and Mahomes hits two quick throws to get his squad in field goal range. And then Harrison Butker drills a 62-yard shot to tie it up at 10! Crazy. We go into halftime at 10-10, and this truly has been a dead-even showdown. Pinned Wow. The big-play gambles finally pay off for Buffalo. Josh Allen finds Stefon Diggs downfield to put the Bills in Chiefs territory, and then he lofts a perfect long ball to Gabe Davis. The 34-yard throw was on the money, and Davis just straight-up beat rookie Joshua Williams down the sideline. Not the first time Davis has torched the K.C. secondary. It’s now 10-7 in favor of the visitors. Pinned Back-to-back pressures from Von Miller and Matt Milano contain Mahomes, forcing a Chiefs punt. Suffice to say, it’s been a low-scoring affair so far. Neither side is completing a high percentage of throws, and yet they continue to lean on the downfield game. Isaiah McKenzie, meanwhile, is having an absolute nightmare of a game so far, dropping a wide-open pass from Allen that would’ve brought the Bills out from their own end zone. He’s now had multiple drops and was part of the fumbled exchange with Allen on Buffalo’s first series. Bills fortunate to escape a safety on their latest possession, with Allen just getting out of the end zone on a second-down scramble. Pinned This is a fun watch by nature of Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes being the QBs, but it’s not really a good watch in terms of smart, efficient football, at least so far. Both sides are content letting their star signal-callers drop 10-15 yards behind the line on every play, so that they can uncork a big shot. When, in reality, Buffalo for example could just keep running Devin Singletary and be in the red zone every series. There’s not a ton of balance here; just sheer gunslinging. That’s why it’s 7-3 and not 20-17. Pinned A Shaq Lawson sack sets up a rare Chiefs three-and-out, but K.C.’s defense steps up on the ensuing drive to pressure Josh Allen on third-and-long, forcing a throw to no one and producing the Bills’ own three-and-out. These two teams can’t stop copying each other in this game. It’s been a mirror image, except the Chiefs have had the one breakaway play. Pinned Bills once again reach the red zone and cannot get the job done. Three straight incomplete passes to end Buffalo’s bid for points there, with the last one right over the middle to Isaiah McKenzie, who fell as he tried reeling in Josh Allen’s pass, which was just slightly tipped. These teams are now a combined 0 for 3 on red-zone tries. Even worse news for Buffalo: right tackle Spencer Brown is headed to the locker room with an injury suffered on that fourth-and-goal misfire. Chiefs still lead it 7-3. Pinned Josh Allen is a dawg for the way he does not shy away from contact — and, in many cases, embraces it. But man, if you’re a Bills fan, you gotta be on edge every time he runs the ball. A few times in this game already he’s powered into a defender near the sticks and taken big shots. Again, it’s part of what makes him so special, but the ultimate key for Buffalo is keeping him upright. Pinned Where is the Bills’ drive to finish a play on defense? It certainly wasn’t evident on the Chiefs’ last few plays. First Patrick Mahomes is driven back in the pocket and forced to throw the ball away, but had Buffalo’s pursuing D-linemen actually kept running at him, he may have been in danger of taking a deep sack. Then, a few snaps later, Mahomes buys time in the pocket and finds JuJu Smith-Schuster, who escapes two half-hearted tackle attempts while in traffic and easily guides into the end zone, basically untouched, for a 42-yard score. Chiefs now on top 7-3. Pinned Isaiah McKenzie is having a rough day so far. Couldn’t corral the unexpected pitch from Josh Allen on the Bills’ opening drive that wiped away a shot at points. Just got smothered by Justin Reid on a third-down throw that left him flat on his back. But we have our first points now, after the Bills hit a field goal to go up 3-0. Tyler Bass, good for 39, and now it’s back to the Chiefs. Pinned One quarter down. 200 combined yards from the two sides, who have had no trouble moving the ball up and down the field. The Bills’ run game is particularly encouraging, feeding off the threat of Josh Allen airing it out. But zero points thanks to each team getting a little too cute/aggressive in the red zone. This one, as predicted, may well play out as if the last possession wins. Pinned Patrick Mahomes starts just as hot as Josh Allen and seemingly finds Marquez Valdes-Scantling for a TD over the middle, threading the needle with a sidearm zip. But then an ineligible-man-downfield penalty negates the score. Mahomes comes right back and puts a back-shoulder TD throw only where Travis Kelce can get it, but Dane Jackson just barely breaks it up at the last second. Von Miller’s impatience on the very next play, drawing a neutral-zone infraction, gives K.C. new life after the near-TDs, but then the Bills’ front stuffs the Chiefs’ short run attempt. On fourth-and-2, Andy Reid goes for it, and Mahomes picks up the first with his own legs. But then we get a second straight red-zone turnover, as Mahomes forces one to the back of the end zone after scrambling. Kaiir Elam comes down with the takeaway, and we’ve still got no score. Pinned Pinned Bills had been rolling on basically a perfect offensive drive to start this game, marching down the field methodically, keeping Kansas City playing off coverage as Josh Allen hit a wide-open Gabe Davis to start 5 for 5 through the air, and Devin Singletary averaged nine yards per carry running through holes. But then Allen pitched one to Isaiah McKenzie with the end zone in sight, and the receiver apparently wasn’t ready for the ball. The fumble is recovered by the Chiefs, and that’s that. One play kills Buffalo’s momentum and wipes a potential TD drive off the board. Pinned Pinned Pinned Pinned Bills open with the ball. Let the games begin. Josh Allen already hearing the deafening crowd noise at Arrowhead. Pinned Pinned Pinned Pinned Pinned Pinned Almost game time at Arrowhead. The Game of the Week, you might say. The last two times these clubs have met, a trip to the AFC Championship or Super Bowl has been on the line. Very intrigued to see how the Chiefs expand their passing offense, assuming Buffalo keys in on Travis Kelce after his four-touchdown showcase on Monday night. Not to say Kelce can be fully eliminated, but if he’s at least more of a priority for the Bills here, that means Patrick Mahomes needs more from JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Mecole Hardman, etc. Meanwhile, on Buffalo’s side, are we due for yet another massive Gabe Davis day after he broke out against Pittsburgh? You’d think so, if this is a shootout. Pinned Pinned Pinned Pinned Pinned Pinned Bills inactives include WR Jake Kumerow, OL Justin Murray and DT Brandin Bryant, but none more notable than RB Zack Moss, who’s traditionally served as the top complement to Devin Singletary. Now, that role will belong to rookie James Cook, who’s had an uptick in touches the last two weeks, recently breaking loose on a 24-yard touchdown run against the Steelers. Look for Cook to be heavily involved if Buffalo ends up throwing the ball a lot (likely) in Kansas City. Pinned See More

FaZe Holdings: Focusing On Growth, I’m On The Sidelines (NASDAQ:FAZE) – Seeking Alpha https://collincountynewsonline.com/faze-holdings-focusing-on-growth-im-on-the-sidelines-nasdaqfaze-seeking-alpha/ gorodenkoff/iStock via Getty Images Los Angeles-based gaming outfit FaZe (NASDAQ:FAZE) went public with little fanfare and near-zero hype in sharp contrast to its esports competitions and media platform. The company took the now largely dead path of using a blank check company to list its shares on NASDAQ in a deal that would value it at $725 million. It is now worth $338.6 million with the common shares down 53% from the SPAC reference price. The go-public market valuation had already been reduced by 25% from when the deal was initially announced last year. Can the company turn its large social media following and esports legacy into concrete year-over-year revenue growth and eventual profit? It depends on who you ask. FaZe already has a small share of bears who have been clear about their criticism of the company. Indeed, the 12-year-old company has quite a vivid history with a plethora of controversy and negative headlines. However, that’s to be expected for a space as young, erratic, and chaotic as esports. FaZe at its core is a video game company. The company was started back in 2010 by a bunch of Call of Duty players who met on Xbox Live and then started a YouTube channel together to show compilations of sniper trick shots and general gaming antics. It has since grown to encompass around 11 competitive esports teams in games like Fortnite and Counter-Strike. The company counts Snoop Dogg on its board and sells t-shirts, sweatpants, and other merch on its website. Critically, FaZe has been a part of online gaming culture for years. This position has allowed the company to build a large and young audience of both millennials and Gen Z across its social media platforms where it has over 510 million followers combined. Whilst large, a significant number of these are likely to be overlapping with followers engaging with multiple FaZe Clan members. Revenue Ramp Built On Brand Strength FaZe last reported earnings for its fiscal 2022 second quarter in August, the first as a public company. This saw revenue come in at $18.8 million, a 22% increase over the year-ago quarter. The company realized a gross profit of $6.4 million as its gross margin on revenue at 34% increased by 868 basis points sequentially and from a gross margin of 13.62% in the year-ago quarter. Net losses for the quarter came in at $9.3 million, an increase from $7.6 million in the year-ago quarter with cash burn from operations coming in at $16 million. This rate of cash burn is problematic. Firstly, it was the highest rate ever recorded despite the higher revenues and was a more than 122% increase from its comparable year-ago quarter. Further, free cash outflow was $17.6 million during the quarter with capital expenditure at $1.6 million. Secondly, the company only managed to raise net proceeds of $57.8 million from its go-public transaction. This was down from an initially estimated $218 million that was meant to come from a combination of PIPE investors and cash from B. Riley Principal, the SPAC sponsor. Redemptions came in at 92% and $71.4 million of $100 million in PIPE commitments defaulted on their obligations. At the current rate of burn, the company should have just under a full year left. Of course, FaZe will likely lean on dilution to expand out this runway with management already taking steps to grow their topline in the hopes it flows through to the bottom. The company is also gearing to sell new shares with the recent filing of a Notice of Effectiveness with the SEC. FaZe is aiming to issue an additional 5.9 million common shares. The filing also creates the option for share sales by existing shareholders once the share lockup period ends. Will Sandwiches Help The Commons? FaZe is exploring other methods to use its brand to make money with gambling and ghost kitchens being thrown in the hat. In this pursuit to monetize the FaZe brand, the company has partnered with a decentralized gaming virtual world called The Sandbox to develop a plot of land. FaZe World will host virtual events, games, and digital product releases and will allow new ways for the company’s followers to engage with the FaZe Clan roster. The company also partnered with DoorDash (DASH) to launch FaZe Subs, a ghost kitchen brand. The eclectic mix of revenue drivers from the metaverse and sandwiches to clothing does not paint an entirely strong picture but is necessary for growth. I am not a buyer here though. The high cash burn and dilutive roadmap to plug this do not entice confidence. FaZe will likely see its common come under sustained pressure towards the beginning of the first quarter of the 2023 calendar year when the share lockup expires and as it executes on its share offering. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery Closes London Film Festival With Energetic Premiere Deadline
‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ Closes London Film Festival With Energetic Premiere – Deadline https://collincountynewsonline.com/glass-onion-a-knives-out-mystery-closes-london-film-festival-with-energetic-premiere-deadline/ The 66th London Film Festival closed Sunday with a lively screening of Rian Johnson’s murder mystery sequel, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.   Johnson and the film’s A-list cast, including Benoit Blanc a.k.a Daniel Craig, were all in attendance and conducted a brief Q&A onstage following the premiere.  The screening opened, however, with an extended introduction from BFI CEO Ben Roberts, who paid tribute to outgoing BFI Festival director Tricia Tuttle who leaves the BFI after five years in charge of the London Film Festival and over a decade at the body overall.  “I know I speak on behalf of all of us, you are just a fantastic colleague and a really amazing person,” Roberts said of Tuttle, who came onstage and was presented with a bouquet of flowers.  Throughout the screening, the London audience frequently broke out in applause at the film’s surprising cameos and shocking twists, which Johnson was keen to remind the festival audience to protect from people yet to see the film.  “We’re all cool, no spoilers,” he warned before the film started rolling.  During the Q&A, Johnson also had to prompt his actors not to spill any of the film’s twists as their answers were being recorded. Instead, they sidestepped specific plot points and discussed the film’s themes and the expanded scale of the Knives Out universe.  Unlike the first Knives Out film, which was wholly set in and around a New England mansion, Glass Onion is set in Greece and features a vast set of high-tech gadgets, expensive yachts, and a massive real-life piece of glass shaped like an onion.   “All of this started with my love of Agatha Christie and to do what she did with each one of her books, which is something totally different,” Johnson said.  “She wasn’t repeating herself every time. She was not only using new settings and characters but also new narratives, tones, and genres. So I want the audience to know moving forward that that’s what we’re gonna be doing with this.” Later during the Q&A, Daniel Craig, who returns as the famed detective Benoit Blanc in the film, praised Johnson for creating the Knives Out universe and said he would gladly continue to work with the director.  “I’d work with him rest of my life,” Craig said. The Q&A ended with Johnson heaping praise on Janelle Monáe, who plays a lead role in the film and is a crucial part of the film’s shocking twist.  “Without saying why, the degree of difficulty in this role, and the amount of work she put into every scene, I didn’t even appreciate until I put the whole movie together and watched it for the first time,” Johnson said of Monáe. He added: “She’s just extraordinary.” Glass Onion will be released globally on Netflix on December 23, following a theatrical release in select theaters from November 23-29.

Azerion Expands Gaming-Focused SSP In Australia And Southeast Asia – B&T https://collincountynewsonline.com/azerion-expands-gaming-focused-ssp-in-australia-and-southeast-asia-bt/ Azerion has expanded its advertising auction platform presence, Improve Digital, in Australia and Southeast Asia (lead image: Elizabeth Grant). The proprietary supply-side platform (SSP) lets publishers sell digital ad inventory across their web, mobile, and app-based sites and games, while allowing advertisers deliver creative ads to consumers. Azerion says its Improve Digital platform lets publishers monetise their inventory in a variety of ways, including header bidding, programmatic guaranteed or via private marketplaces. In-game advertising also brings more choice and flexibility for sellers and buyers to connect directly and conduct ad transactions. “The cornerstone of Azerion’s advertising auction platform Improve Digital is that by merging in-game advertising with our high impact creative technology, we place attention, brand and performance at the centre of every marketing campaign,” said Grant, Azerion’s operations and commercial director, JAPAC. Grant added that the Asia-Pacific market is yet to reach its full potential and presents an untapped opportunity for advertisers seeking to reach gaming audiences, which vary wildly in demographic and cultural background. “The gaming audience is growing exponentially across mobile, casual and social formats and brands have a unique opportunity to take part in this growth,” Grant said. “We expect advertisers to increasingly embark on the journey of deploying our gaming and technology expertise to connect with hard-to-reach audiences across web, mobile and app.” Headquartered in Amsterdam, Azerion has acquired several companies in the entertainment, media, and tech space since 2014. The Eagles broke an early tie and picked up a win against previously undefeated Frisco Emerson, 24-10. The contest was a battle of two of the three undefeated teams in 3-5A. Argyle, with the win, improves to 7-0 and 3-0. Emerson fell to 7-1 and 3-1 – the first loss in the program’s history after a dazzling debut. “Their players are really athletic and they’re playing us and they’re home and they got everyone out here for this game,” Argyle senior defensive tackle Hunter Sandifer said. “We started a little slow, but we finally got it together. “We scored three touchdowns and that special teams’ touchdown, that one was huge.” That special teams’ TD Sandifer referred to was Argyle’s final score, when a bad punt attempt from Emerson led to a fumble, with Parker Phillips picking it up in the end zone to give the Eagles a 24-7 lead. Argyle and Emerson both ended the game with backup quarterbacks due to injury, though both of the starters got the teams tied at 7-all in the first quarter. Argyle’s Jacob Robinson hit RJ Bunnell on a wheel route and 19 seconds into the game, the Eagles led 7-0. Emerson quarterback Darryl Shelton hit Kylen Evens for a 20-yard gain on fourth-and-11 from the Argyle 30 that set up Ishaqq Bills’ 10-yard touchdown run with 2:34 to go in the first quarter. Shelton completed four of his nine passes on that drive. Robinson left with an ankle injury and was replaced by John Gailey, and the 6-foot-2, 190-pound junior came up a score early in the second quarter. He had a 42-yard run before being tackled at the Emerson 1-yard line. On the next play, he scored to make it 14-7. “All of our quarterbacks get tons of reps during practice, so you know, we ought to put a guy out there that’s already seen legitimate game time,” Argyle coach Todd Rodgers said. “You know, (Emerson) was kind of the walking wounded over there afterward. But you know that is part of the game … injuries are part of the game. “You’ve got to be able to plug and play and put another kid in the game.” Argyle led 17-7 at the break after Carter Buxton’s 28-yard field goal with 6:45 to play in the first half.  Shelton was in the game until 37 seconds left in the first half before he left. Mike Molstad replaced him for the remainder of the game. Shelton remained in his No. 13 jersey without pads on the rest of the game and wore a Bass Pro Shop hat. The Mavericks struggled on the next two drives, running 10 plays for a combined minus 31 yards. A punt ended the first drive and then on the second drive was the fumble on the punt attempt which was recovered in the end zone by Phillips.  Up 24-7, the Eagles were blanked in the fourth quarter. Emerson created a pair of turnovers, but the offense struggled to get much traction. Collin Crockem picked off a pass early in the fourth off the Eagles’ third quarterback of the night. Frisco started the drive at the Argyle 32 and moved down to the 4, but had to settle for 20-yard field goal by Pedro Pacheco with eight minutes left to play. The Mavericks got the ball right back when Argyle fumbled the kickoff. Emerson took over at the Argyle 39, but gained only 12 yards and turned the ball over on downs. “We have a really good defense here,” Sandifer said. “We pride ourselves on keeping that other team out of the end zone.” Both teams are idle next week.

FlyFreely Lands ISO 27001 Certification For Information Security – SUAS News – The Business Of Drones – SUAS News https://collincountynewsonline.com/flyfreely-lands-iso-27001-certification-for-information-security-suas-news-the-business-of-drones-suas-news/ Drone management platform FlyFreely has achieved rare air in its field, achieving an ISO 27001 certification for information security. SAI Global certified the Brisbane-based startup after it demonstrated its ability to protect and maintain the integrity of customer data. FlyFreely Co-founder and CTO Dr Nigel Sim said it was the culmination of 6 months of work to ensure its processes and procedures met its rigorous requirements. “Information security has been important to us from day one. This certification is the next step for us along that path. It’s great validation that we’re doing the right things,” he said. “We’ve always known that we take security seriously, but having an independent third-party come in and confirm that shows that we do what we say we do.” The ISO 27001 certification is recognised worldwide as the gold standard for protecting customer data. Dr Sim said the FlyFreely team had been enhancing the safety of its systems and processes for some time, so when it came to getting verified, it was a case of providing evidence for how it had been done. “As we’ve seen recently, it’s critical businesses do everything they can to protect customer data,” he said. “One of the first questions large organisations ask is whether we have this certification, and now we can say we do.” Dr Sim said he believed it was important for businesses to be open and transparent about the mechanisms it had in place. “None of us can completely eliminate the risk of cyber security breaches, but we can do everything we can to prevent them, and have a plan in place to respond.” he said. “If it does happen, it’s about informing those impacted, containing the breach, and understanding how to prevent it from happening again. “You do that by having the right processes in place to start with.” The ISO 27001 certification recognises organisations that have implemented best practices for information security management. The standard is based on a risk management approach and provides a framework businesses can use to identify, assess and manage risks to their information and information systems. Post navigation

Investment Guru Recommends Oryen Network, Polygon, Ripple, And Chainlink – Cryptonews https://collincountynewsonline.com/investment-guru-recommends-oryen-network-polygon-ripple-and-chainlink-cryptonews/ An investment guru who already made his fortunes with other cryptos has recently selected his best picks for the coming months. Those picks are Oryen Network, Polygon, Ripple, and Chainlink. He thinks they all have the strength to succeed and could be precisely what your portfolio needs to elevate it to a new level. While the market might be in a bear run, experts still think there’s money to be made in crypto. And at current prices, they believe now might be the time to buy. A recommended strategy right now focuses on the long-term rather than worrying about hourly charts, and with the following cryptos, your portfolio could be primed for long-term success: Oryen Network (ORY) Oryen helps eliminate the barriers to entry that have been preventing many mainstream investors from putting money in crypto, thanks to the groundbreaking Oryen Autostaking Technic (OAT). With OAT, newcomers to crypto don’t need to understand or manage staking and don’t have to move their tokens elsewhere to start earning. A massive 90% APY is paid directly into your wallet from holding the token at hourly intervals. This makes Oryen the most straightforward way to earn in crypto, and it’s an investment that could therefore be due considerable gains in the future. Polygon (MATIC) While many other cryptos have struggled in the bear run, MATIC has remained relatively strong. Polygon made some gains off the back of news of mainstream adoption of its technology, which gave the market confidence for future growth. MATIC could still be a credible investment, so now might be the time to invest. Ripple (XRP) XRP was once regarded as one of the best crypto investments, but prices have struggled over the last few years because of growing regulatory issues and it being delisted on certain exchanges. While it’s harder to buy XRP right now, it could be a wise investment if it manages to put these troubles in the past and start being listed again. Chainlink (LINK) As one of the most popular smart contract platforms in the crypto space, LINK has long been one of the cornerstones of the altcoin world. But experts still think it has room to grow and that current prices may be considered an absolute steal when looked back on in the future. Conclusion Investment experts highly recommend LINK, ORY, XRP, and MATIC. And they could all fire your portfolio into success. It’s ORY which experts like the most, as it gives you strong price potential and massive passive gains along the way. Iran Accuses ‘Great Satan’ US Of ‘inciting Chaos, Terror’ – Al Jazeera English https://collincountynewsonline.com/iran-accuses-great-satan-us-of-inciting-chaos-terror-al-jazeera-english/ President Raisi joins Supreme Leader Khamenei in blaming the US for instigating deadly protests against the death of a woman in government custody. Published On 16 Oct 202216 Oct 2022 Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi accused United States President Joe Biden of “inciting chaos” after he expressed support for demonstrations against the death of Mahsa Amini, a woman who died in Iranian government custody nearly a month ago. The protests started in mid-September after Amini, 22, died following three days in the custody of Iran’s “morality police” for allegedly violating the strict dress code for women. “The remarks of the American president – who is inciting chaos, terror and the destruction of another country – serve as a reminder of the eternal words of the founder of the Islamic Republic who called America the Great Satan,” Raisi said, referring to the late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomenei. “The enemy’s plot must be countered by effective measures to resolve people’s problems,” Raisi said, according to a statement from the president’s office. Dozens of people have died in the protests. Most have been protesters, but members of the security forces have also died. Hundreds of demonstrators have been arrested. On Friday, Biden said, “We stand with the citizens, the brave women of Iran.” “It stunned me what it awakened in Iran,” the US president said. “It awakened something that I don’t think will be quieted for a long, long time.” Iranian foreign affairs spokesman Nasser Kanani said on Sunday, “Iran is too strong for its will to be swayed by the interference … of a politician tired of years of failure.” “We will together defend the independence of Iran,” Kanani wrote on Instagram. The US issued new sanctions against Iranian officials on October 6 over what it called the “violent suppression of protests”. The US Treasury last month also placed sanctions on the morality police. Raisi accused the United States of starting unrest in the past, saying because of “the failure of America in militarisation and sanctions, Washington and its allies have resorted to the failed policy of destabilisation”. This month, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei blamed the US and Israel for instigating the protests, accusing them of trying to stop Iran’s “progress”.

Uncollected Solid Waste Posing Health Hazards To Multanites Pakistan Today
Uncollected Solid Waste Posing Health Hazards To Multanites Pakistan Today
Uncollected Solid Waste Posing Health Hazards To Multanites – Pakistan Today https://collincountynewsonline.com/uncollected-solid-waste-posing-health-hazards-to-multanites-pakistan-today/ MULTAN: Solid waste management is getting tougher in the fifth largest metropolitan of the country adding to environmental pollution and endangering hundreds of thousands dweller to serious health hazards. With an urban population of just over 2.1 million, the city daily generates around 1300 tone solid, industrial and hospital waste of which the local authorities have the capacity to only collect only 700 tone waste. The only landfill site used by Multan Waste Management Company (MWMC) since 2013 is now filled up to the brim, leaving MWMC staff with no option to identify another place to dump the waste. The concerned authorities have described the shortage of staff and resource constraint behind uncollected waste as the situation is getting tougher with every passing day due to population influx as well as proper mechanism of waste segregation and treatment. “We have the capacity to collect only 700 tone waste daily against a daily bulge of 1300 tone,” said Manager Operations MWMC Anwar-ul-Haq. “The company is covering 68 urban Union Councils housing over two million people with only 2200 staff including 1500 sanitary workers.” “Expecting 100 percent results with such staff strength was unjust,” the Manager Operations said, revealing that no recruitment of workforce or acquisition of new machinery was made since 2013. ‘The Hospital Management Rules’ were introduced in 2005 necessitating yellow-bagged waste to be disposed by burning and then dump it at a landfill site or dispose it of through any other method approved by the concerned Federal or Provincial agencies. In 2012, the Punjab government had established Waste Management Companies in big cities for swift cleanliness arrangements in the major cities but the objective is yet to be fully achieved in case of Multan due to certain factors despite MWMC fully operational since 2014. Keeping in view the urgency, the Manager Operation said that the company Board of Directors (BoD) recently approved recruitment of 500 workers and procurement of over 100 vehicles at a cost of Rs 170 million in first phase. “These measures would help evolve a swift sanitation system to ensure proper waste disposal.” Although, the officials are busy locating an alternate place to use landfill site, yet there are other issues like hazards of dumping waste in open, proper segregation of house, industrial and hospital waste and having different landfill sites for it. Lack of professional human resource to collect and properly dump or treat solid waste is yet another reason contributing to environmental degradation and hazards to human health. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) MWMC Muhammad Farooq Dogar said that international standards require a sanitary worker deployed for every 1000 persons for proper sanitation and waste management. “This is missing in our case. To fill the gap of company’s limitations, special campaigns are launched periodically targeting specific areas to cover maximum, if not 100 per cent.” Moreover, he said, there was no practice of solid waste segregation to manage different kinds of waste properly. “Waste segregation would ensure proper management and disposal in accordance with the nature of waste.” Officials are busy these days, in searching a new landfill site and locations including 17-Kassi, Labar Morr and Head Muhammad Wala are in focus. A plan is also under consideration to develop a park at Habiba Siyal landfill site to avoid environmental pollution. Talking of equipment, Farooq Dogar said the waste collection containers have completed their life span running for nine years instead of three years specific period. He pleaded to raise the workforce number to 3500 besides procurement of more machinery to cover maximum area of the urban population. He also proposed to enhance the number of present 12 transfer stations to 20 where primary waste is gathered for onward transportation to dumping site. “It is our utmost endeavor to collect maximum waste generated daily,” he said. “Our mission is to provide healthy living conditions and better environment to Multanites.” Assistant Director Environment Hameed Akhtar said, environment should be made part of curriculum to raise awareness on the issue right from primary level. He said, since there is no mechanism in vogue in the city to segregate waste, there is always risk of diseases outbreak due to dumping infectious and hazardous industrial and hospital waste in open. Meanwhile, the residents have called upon the civic agencies to ensure proper collection and disposal of waste also urging residents to cooperate with Waste Management Company. “It is our collective responsibility to keep our city clean. The people should cooperate with sanitary workers and throw the waste only into the containers or places designated by the company,” said a citizen Shafiq Bhatti. Another citizen Tanvir Shakir suggested community participation in the whole exercise. “The waste management company should divide city into wards and engage local notables to educate people in their respective area in cleanliness.” He said that citizens should also hand over the waste to sanitary workers instead of throwing it on roads or streets.

Technology Can Make Northern Roads Safer, Slower: Report – Sudbury.com https://collincountynewsonline.com/technology-can-make-northern-roads-safer-slower-report-sudbury-com/ Report from Northern Policy Institute recommends new ways to make roads and highway traveling safer in the North Technology can be used to make Northern Ontario roads safer with such things as sensors that will automatically create a lower speed limit if the roads are too snowy or ice-covered.  Using the technology can reduce crashes and save lives according to a detailed report published by the Northern Policy Institute (NPI), — Smart Solutions for Northern Roads authored by William Dunstan. Dunstan argued that by using existing technology to change accepted driving practises, fewer crashes would occur and lives could be saved. It would also reduce the number of driving disruptions from closed highways.   “Roads in Northern Ontario are often dangerous, in poor shape, or non-existent. A new briefing note from NPI finds that these shortcomings can be addressed by using innovative technologies in road construction and design. Several “smart road” technologies already implemented in other areas represent cost-effective options to improve safety. As well, innovative road construction techniques could make it cheaper and easier to build and maintain roads in Northern Ontario,” Dunstan wrote. The 14-page report outlines there are several options open to the government to bring about changes. One of the options is called FAST, or Fixed Automated Spray Technology. FAST is already being used in a handful of locations in Southern Ontario.  The FAST option would automatically spray anti-icing liquids when sensors detect that atmospheric conditions are likely to form ice or bonded snow on the road surface.  “The technology is best suited for bridges that freeze before the rest of the road, especially those in remote locations that are costly to service manually,” said the report.  The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) currently maintains eight FAST installations across the province, but only one in its northern regions: at Burk’s Falls, near the southern boundary of the northeastern region, said the report. Another option would use sensors to determine a safer — and slower — speed limit when the weather is bad. The system is known as a Dynamic Speed Limit (DSL), which would adjust the speed limit to match the prevailing road conditions. Drivers would be forced to slow down and therefore reduce crashes. The report said the system could send weather information to an operator who would manually adjust the speed limit, or it would use technology to automatically change the speed limits.  The report said DSLs have been implemented successfully in British Columbia on roads similar to those in Northern Ontario.  One study done in 2021 examined the impact of DSLs on a section of a rural, undivided, two-lane highway and a divided, four-lane freeway during the winter season (October–March). It was found that DSLs reduced collision frequency by 35 per cent, said the report.  Dunstan argued that DSLs could be implemented easily enough given that weather sensors are already in place on highways throughout Northern Ontario. Dunstan noted in this report that “on some northern highways, half of all collisions and an equal share of fatal crashes occur during periods of snow and ice cover on roads.”  Section speed control is another option described in the report. It said instead of using speed cameras to monitor the speed of a vehicle at one location, the cameras could be spaced apart over several kilometres to monitor a vehicle’s speed over that section of highway. Studies done in other jurisdictions found that section control was able to reduce the incidence of serious auto crashes, injuries and deaths from 30 to 50 per cent. “If drivers know that their speed will be monitored across an extended road segment, they are more likely to adhere to the lower speed limit,” said the report. The fourth option outlined in the report was about the creation of wooden mat roads. This option speaks to the need of more all-weather roads to serve small and rural communities in the Far North. The report said the many existing winter roads do not last long enough and with climate change, most winter roads will be in place for weeks, instead of months. This would be especially important in areas that have wetlands and muskeg. This would make mat roads viable, said the report, because they have less environmental impact than a traditional gravel road, and are far less expensive to build and maintain.  The report concluded that the Ontario government should take a serious look at the options for improving safety as well as commit to more funding for research.  “To improve road safety in the North, the Ontario government should implement proven smart road technologies on many sections of highways. Furthermore, government support ought to be provided for further research and trials to assist the development of equally promising but less proven road construction techniques.” This is the second report in as many months where NPI is recommending changes to government policy to improve Northern Ontario highways. A report released in September — Saving Lives and Money: 2 + 1 Roads — spoke to the importance of twin-laning major highways across the North in a move aimed at saving lives.

Week 6 Late Games Open Thread – Gang Green Nation https://collincountynewsonline.com/week-6-late-games-open-thread-gang-green-nation/ Week 6 of the 2022 NFL season continues with a handful of late afternoon games. The best of the late afternoon games features a rematch of the thrilling January 2022 AFC divisional round game between the Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs won that game 42 – 36 in overtime to advance to the AFC Championship Game. Many people considered the Bills and the Chiefs the two best teams in the AFC last year, and they come into this game with the best records in the AFC thus far. Few will be surprised if this game ends up being a preview of this season’s AFC Championship Game. Patrick Mahomes against Josh Allen, perhaps the best two quarterbacks in the NFL. Regular season games don’t get much better than this, at least on paper. We’ll see if this one lives up to the understandable hype. In the other two late afternoon games the 1-4 Carolina Panthers, missing their top two quarterbacks, visit the defending Super Bowl champion 2-3 Los Angeles Rams in what looks on paper like one of the biggest mismatches of the season, and Kyler Murray and the 2-3 Arizona Cardinals take on Geno Smith and the 2-3 Seattle Seahawks. Enjoy the games everybody. Use this thread to comment on whichever late afternoon games catch your fancy.

OSU Flashback: Cowboys Come From Behind At Texas One Year Ago Today – Tulsa World https://collincountynewsonline.com/osu-flashback-cowboys-come-from-behind-at-texas-one-year-ago-today-tulsa-world-2/ OSU flashback: Cowboys come from behind at Texas one year ago today One year ago today, up 17-3 and driving into Oklahoma State territory for more after Spencer Sanders’ fifth interception of the season, No. 25 Texas was on its way to being on its way five minutes before halftime, so Cowboys then-defensive coordinator Jim Knowles dialed up a disguise he’d later call “risky” and put safety Jason Taylor II in a position to make a play. It’s why Taylor was there when Casey Thompson dropped back on 3rd and 10 from OSU’s 18-yard line and fired in the direction of Joshua Moore, in position not only to intercept the Texas quarterback but to return his pick 85 yards for a game-swinging touchdown. “I kind of saw (Thompson) eyeing my zone,” Taylor said. “So on the snap I waited and I baited him to throw it and I jumped it.” Taylor’s play was the first of a handful of momentum-altering moments the 12th-ranked Cowboys needed to complete their 32-24 come-from-behind victory at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium. Cancun Flight Deals: Enjoy Warmth This Winter For Under $250 Round-Trip – The Points Guy https://collincountynewsonline.com/cancun-flight-deals-enjoy-warmth-this-winter-for-under-250-round-trip-the-points-guy/ If you think an escape to the warmth of Cancun might be in the cards for this upcoming winter, it’s a good idea to book when you get a window where the airfare is running cheaper; it happens every so often. Right now is one of those times. There are currently a handful of U.S. cities from which you can fly to the popular Mexico destination for $250 or less round-trip. You’ll find some of the deals as soon as November, which is rapidly approaching, with many more options after the start of the New Year. There are a ton of great resorts with sprawling pools and convenient beach access throughout Cancun, both all-inclusive and not. Sign up for our daily newsletter Scott’s Cheap Flights was the first to flag the deals to Cancun. Premium memberships with the site start at $49 annually for alerts on economy deals, with memberships that get you premium economy and business class alerts starting at $199 annually. The temperatures are dropping across the country and they won’t be getting much warmer as we near the end of the year. A getaway to Mexico might be exactly what you’re looking for come January or February, so be sure to lock in these prices before they rise. JW Marriott Cancun Resort & Spa. ZACH GRIFF/THE POINTS GUY Deal Basics Airlines: American, Delta, JetBlue, Aeromexico. Routes: Austin, Chicago, New York, Denver, Fort Lauderdale, St. Louis and others to Cancun. Travel dates: November 2022 through March 2023. How to book: We recommend finding the best itinerary on Google Flights, then booking directly with the airline. Sample Flights We took note of round-trip airfare to Cancun (CUN) for around $250 or below. However, if you don’t see your city listed here, check prices from your home airport. There are many U.S. cities with round-trip availability to Cancun for just above the price range we flagged, including trips from Washington, D.C., Dallas, Houston and Los Angeles. Here are a few of the options we liked most: Austin to Cancun for $252 on American. Chicago to Cancun for $222 on a SkyTeam combination of Delta and Aeromexico. Denver to Cancun for $251 on Aeromexico. Fort Lauderdale to Cancun or $238 on JetBlue. New York to Cancun for $243 on American. St. Louis to Cancun for $257 on American. Let’s look first at one of the shortest flights available at a low price point: Austin Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) to Cancun. It’s a nonstop flight of under two and a half hours on the southbound trip aboard American Airlines. This particular itinerary gets you on vacation just after the new year. GOOGLE FLIGHTS A number of these itineraries do involve connections somewhere. In fact, be sure to check how long your layover is before you book a particular itinerary. I found options that looked great out of some cities, but with a 10-plus hour stop at a U.S. airport. The layovers are more reasonable (but not totally) ideal on this itinerary. Departing from O’Hare International Airport (ORD), you’ll fly down to Cancun aboard SkyTeam carrier and Mexican flagship airline Aeromexico. It’s a relatively brief, two-hour stop in Mexico City, before the final leg of the trip. On the way back, you’ll have a three-plus hour layover in New York at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). GOOGLE FLIGHTS In a lot of cases for these deals, you trade convenience for price, so it all comes down to what you’re OK with. Here’s a bit simpler option: Nonstop flights from South Florida aboard JetBlue. For $238, you’ll reach Cancun by mid-day, in time to spend the afternoon on the beach. Likewise, on the way home, you won’t depart until early afternoon, so you can enjoy the final few hours at your resort before heading to the airport. GOOGLE FLIGHTS Maximize your purchase Don’t forget to use a card that earns bonus points on airfare purchases, such as The Platinum Card® from American Express, which earns 5 points per dollar on airfare booked directly with the airline or through American Express Travel (on up to $500,000 on these purchases per calendar year). The Citi Premier® Card and Chase Sapphire Reserve earn 3 points per dollar on airfare, and the American Express® Gold Card also earns 3 points per dollar on airfare when booked directly with the airline or through Amex Travel. Meanwhile, the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card earns 2 points per dollar on travel. Learn more here about maximizing your air travel purchases. Hilton Cancun. BENJI STAWSKI/THE POINTS GUY Bottom line Because prices to Cancun can fluctuate as with any destination, you want to make sure you’re booking your airfare at a time when you can get the best deals, as opposed to paying $400 or more round-trip. Get a warm weather, winter getaway on the books now by paying a far lower cost to get to Mexico and back. US Lawmaker Calls On SEC To Issue Crypto Regulations — Says ‘a Formal Regulatory Process Is Needed Now’ – Regulation Bitcoin News – Bitcoin News https://collincountynewsonline.com/us-lawmaker-calls-on-sec-to-issue-crypto-regulations-says-a-formal-regulatory-process-is-needed-now-regulation-bitcoin-news-bitcoin-news/ A U.S. senator has called on the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to issue crypto regulations now “through a transparent notice-and-comment regulatory process.” He stressed that “some digital assets are securities, others may be commodities, and others may subject to a completely different regulatory regime.” US Senator Calls for ‘Transparent Notice-and-Comment Regulatory Process’ to Regulating Crypto Assets U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper (D-CO) has sent a letter to the chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Gary Gensler, regarding crypto regulations. In his letter dated Oct. 13, the senator told Gensler, “Clear rules promote an environment where investors are protected,” adding: I write to urge the SEC to issue regulations for digital asset securities through a transparent notice-and-comment regulatory process. He stressed: “Currently, digital asset markets do not have a coordinated regulatory framework. This creates uneven enforcement, and deprives investors of a clear understanding of how they are protected from fraud, manipulation, and abuse.” Noting that existing laws and regulations were not designed for digital assets, he explained: “Applying the old rules to the new market could inadvertently cause financial services to be more expensive, less accessible, and the SEC’s disclosure regime to be less useful to the American people.” The senator noted: Given the complexity of these issues, and recognizing that some digital assets are securities, others may be commodities, and others may subject to a completely different regulatory regime, a formal regulatory process is needed now. “This will significantly improve policy development and allow the SEC to collect views and understand concerns,” he said. The senator proceeded to outline some of the key areas that the SEC should address, including clarifying what types of digital assets are securities, addressing how to issue and list digital securities, establishing a registration regime for digital asset security trading platforms, and setting rules on how trading and custody of digital assets should be carried out. Hickenlooper opined: I recognize these questions are complicated, but it is time for the SEC to engage. What do you think about the letter from Senator Hickenlooper to SEC Chairman Gary Gensler? Trump Attacks American Jews In A Truth Social Post The Washington Post
Trump Attacks American Jews In A Truth Social Post – The Washington Post https://collincountynewsonline.com/trump-attacks-american-jews-in-a-truth-social-post-the-washington-post/ Former president Donald Trump attacked American Jews in a post on his Truth Social platform on Sunday, saying Jews in the United States must “get their act together” and show more appreciation for the state of Israel “before it is too late.” American Jews have long been accused of holding secret loyalty to Israel rather than the United States, and Trump’s post leaned on that antisemitic trope, suggesting that by virtue of their religion, American Jews should show more appreciation to Israel. Trump also complained in the post that “no president” had done more for Israel than he had but that Christian evangelicals are “far more appreciative of this than the people of the Jewish faith, especially those living in the U.S.” It was not the first time that Trump has suggested that American Jews, who traditionally have more often aligned with the Democratic Party on domestic policies, should be more supportive of him because of how he dealt with Israel. “Jewish people who live in the United States don’t love Israel enough. Does that make sense to you?” he said in an interview last year with an Orthodox Jewish magazine, adding that it seemed “strange” to him that he did not have more Jewish support. At a Hanukkah event at the White House in 2018, he drew criticism for referring to Israel as “your country” while speaking to American Jews. He was also rebuked when he said during an Oval Office meeting in 2019 that “any Jewish people who would vote for a Democrat, I think it shows either a total lack of knowledge or great disloyalty.” Trump’s latest diatribe about Jews came as Republican candidates have made overt appeals to racial animus and resentments in the closing weeks of the midterm election campaign. It also comes as leading Republican figures have failed to disavow musician and sometime-Trump supporter Ye, the rapper and fashion designer formerly known as Kanye West. Ye earlier this month tweeted that he wanted to go “death con 3” on “JEWISH PEOPLE,” an apparent reference to Defcon, the U.S. military defense readiness system. Instagram and Twitter removed posts by the artist, who had been featured on conservative Fox News host Tucker Carlson’s show. Trump has long been frustrated that he has not drawn more support from American Jews, particularly when as president, he moved the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and his Jewish son-in-law, Jared Kushner, helped negotiate new treaties between Israel and some of its Arab neighbors. In Sunday’s post, Trump wrote that his support among people living in Israel is “a different story.” “Highest approval rating in the World, could easily be P.M.!” he wrote, contrasting his popularity in the foreign country with his support among American Jews. Trump’s post drew quick criticism. “We don’t need the former president, who curries favor with extremists and antisemites, to lecture us about the US-Israel relationship,” Anti-Defamation League chief executive and national director Jonathan Greenblatt said in a statement. “It is not about a quid pro quo; it rests on shared values and security interests. This ‘Jewsplaining’ is insulting and disgusting.” On her personal Twitter account, Neera Tanden, a senior adviser to President Biden, wrote, “We should all stand against what feels like a growing chorus of anti-Semitism. There should be no quarter for it in our politics or culture.”

Scientists Reappraise The Role Of Zombie Cells That Anti-Aging Medicine Has Sought To Eliminate Neuroscience News
Scientists Reappraise The Role Of ‘Zombie’ Cells That Anti-Aging Medicine Has Sought To Eliminate – Neuroscience News https://collincountynewsonline.com/scientists-reappraise-the-role-of-zombie-cells-that-anti-aging-medicine-has-sought-to-eliminate-neuroscience-news/ Summary: Some senescent (zombie) cells are embedded in young, healthy tissue and promote normal repair from damage, researchers say. Source: UCSF Not all senescent cells are harmful “zombies” that should be wiped out to prevent age-related disease, according to new research from UC San Francisco, which found that some of them are embedded in young, healthy tissues and promote normal repair from damage. Scientists have now seen these cells in action in lung tissue, as well as other organs that serve as barriers in the body, such as the small intestine, colon and skin. When they used drugs called senolytics to kill these cells, injuries to lung tissues healed more slowly. “Senescent cells can occupy niches with privileged positions as ‘sentinels’ that monitor tissue for injury and respond by stimulating nearby stem cells to grow and initiate repair,” said Tien Peng, MD, associate professor of pulmonary, critical care, allergy and sleep medicine, and senior author of the study, which appears in Science on October 13, 2022. Aging cells can both damage and heal Peng said it was understandable that scientists at first viewed senescent cells as purely detrimental. As people age, senescent cells accumulate that have characteristics of old, worn-out cells, including the inability to make new cells. Instead of dying like normal aged cells, they to live on, spewing a cocktail of inflammatory compounds that form the senescence associated secretory phenotype (SASP). These factors are linked to Alzheimer’s disease, arthritis, and other age-related maladies including cancer. The catchy name “zombie cells” was coined for them. Using senolytics that target and kill “zombie cells,” researchers made the exciting discovery that clearing senescent cells from animals thwarted or diminished age-related disease and extended the lifespan of the animals. Thereafter, a boom of activity ensued in research labs and pharmaceutical companies focused on discovering and refining more powerful versions of these drugs. But killing off senescent cells has dangers, Peng said. For one thing, this current study showed that senescent cells also possess the ability to promote normal healing through activation of stem cell repair. “Our study suggests that senolytics could adversely affect normal repair, but they also have the potential to target diseases where senescent cells drive pathologic stem cell behavior,” said Peng. Lighting up senescent cells One major challenge to studying senescent cells is that biomarkers of senescence (such as the gene p16) are often quite sparse, making it difficult to detect the cells. In early experiments, researchers extracted cells called fibroblasts into culture dishes, allowing them to grow and produce enough cells to experiment with, and then stressed the cells with chemicals that induced them to become senescent. But in living organisms, cells interact with tissues around them, strongly affecting the cells’ gene activity. This means that the characteristics of cells growing isolated in a glass dish could be quite different from that of cells in their natural environment. To create a more powerful tool for their studies, postdoctoral scholar Nabora Reyes de Barboza, Ph.D. and colleagues improved on a common technique of fusing a relevant gene—in this case, the p16 gene, which is overly active in senescent cells—with green fluorescent protein (GFP) as a marker that can reveal the location of the cells under ultraviolet light. By enhancing the quantity and stability of green fluorescent protein in these senescent cells, Reyes greatly amplified the fluorescent signal, finally enabling the researchers to see senescent cells in their natural habitat of living tissues. “Zombies” stimulate stem cells shortly after birth Using this highly sensitive tool, the researchers found that senescent cells exist in young and healthy tissues to a greater extent than previously thought, and actually begin appearing shortly after birth. The scientists also identified specific growth factors that senescent cells secrete to stimulate stem cells to grow and repair tissues. Relevant to aging and tissue injury is the discovery that cells of the immune system such as macrophages and monocytes can activate senescent cells, suggesting that inflammation seen in aged or damaged tissue is a critical modifier of senescent cell activity and regeneration. In their studies of lung tissue, Peng’s team observed green glowing senescent cells lying next to stem cells on the basement membrane that serves as a barrier preventing foreign cells and harmful chemicals from entering the body and also allows oxygen to diffuse from air in the lungs into underlying tissues. Damage can occur at this dynamic interface. Using this highly sensitive tool, the researchers found that senescent cells exist in young and healthy tissues to a greater extent than previously thought, and actually begin appearing shortly after birth. Image is in the public domain The team saw senescent cells in similar positions in other barrier organs such as small intestine, colon, and skin, and their experiments confirmed that if senescent cells were killed with senolytics, lung stem cells were not able to properly repair the barrier surface. Leanne Jones, Ph.D., director of the UCSF Bakar Aging Research Institute and Stuart Lindsay Endowed Professor in Experimental Pathology, said Peng’s study is truly significant for the field of aging research, where the goal is to help individuals live longer and more healthy lives. See also “The studies suggest that senolytics research should focus on recognizing and precisely targeting harmful senescent cells, perhaps at the earliest signs of disease, while leaving helpful ones intact,” she said. “These findings emphasize the need to develop better drugs and small molecules that will target specific subsets of senescent cells that are implicated in disease rather than in regeneration.” Additional authors include Nabora Reyes, Maria Krasilnikov, Nancy C. Science Abstract Sentinel p16INK4a+ cells in the basement membrane form a reparative niche in the lung We engineered an ultrasensitive reporter of p16INK4a, a biomarker of cellular senescence. Our reporter detected p16INK4a-expressing fibroblasts with certain senescent characteristics that appeared shortly after birth in the basement membrane adjacent to epithelial stem cells in the lung. Furthermore, these p16INK4a+ fibroblasts had enhanced capacity to sense tissue inflammation and respond through their increased secretory capacity to promote epithelial regeneration. In addition, p16INK4a expression was required in fibroblasts to enhance epithelial regeneration. This study highlights a role for p16INK4a+ fibroblasts as tissue-resident sentinels in the stem cell niche that monitor barrier integrity and rapidly respond to inflammation to promote tissue regeneration.

Liverpool Vs Manchester City Result, Highlights And Analysis As Salah Downs Champions – Sporting News https://collincountynewsonline.com/liverpool-vs-manchester-city-result-highlights-and-analysis-as-salah-downs-champions-sporting-news/ ANFIELD, LIVERPOOL — Liverpool served up a reminder that they remain a force to be reckoned with as they inflicted a first defeat of the season upon Manchester City. Unusually patchy across the start of the campaign, the Reds looked back to their old selves as a Mohamed Salah goal decided a pulsating Anfield encounter. City had earlier seen a Phil Foden strike ruled out for a foul in the build-up and, in truth, could feel hard done by not to get something from a thrilling and often feisty game in which Jurgen Klopp was sent off. Pep Guardiola’s side now sit four points behind early leaders Arsenal, while Liverpool move up to eighth. — Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) October 16, 2022 MORE: Liverpool vs. Man City betting guide Liverpool vs Man City result   1H 2H Final Liverpool 0 1 1 Man City 0 0 0 Goals: LIV: Salah (75th min) Liverpool vs Man City as it happened FULLTIME: All over at Anfield and Liverpool take it 1-0 thanks to Mohamed Salah’s goal.  What. A. Game. — Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) October 16, 2022 96th min: Nunez has a chance to finish the game off as he sneaks in behind the City defence but the Uruguayan completely fluffs the finish. More added time surely coming now as Diogo Jota heads off on a stretcher.  89th min: City going for it now as Alvarez takes the place of Gundogan. Salah also off for Alexander-Arnold for Liverpool. 85th min: Jurgen Klopp is sent off! The German can have few complaints having chased the linesman down the touchline berating him after Liverpool were not awarded a foul for a tangle between Silva and Salah. 75th min: GOAL! Salah opens the scoring and Anfield erupts!!! The Liverpool man rolls Cancelo far too easily as they challenge for a quick Alisson kick out of hands and shows brilliant composure from there to beat Ederson. 72nd min: Liverpool making a triple sub as Nunez, Carvalho and Henderson replace Firmino, Elliott and Fabinho. 64th min: Gundogan strides through the Liverpool midfield and tees up Haaland as Anfield holds its collective breath… But the Norwegian can’t beat Alisson, who dives down to his right to brilliantly palm the ball away.  56th min: And another big chance, this time for Liverpool. Salah picks out Jota at the back post with City’s defence stranded but the Portuguese’s header is over the bar.  This is some game. 54th min: A huge moment in the game! City think they have opened the scoring after Foden follows in an Alisson spill and smashes the ball home. However, a VAR check shows a foul on Fabinho in the build-up and Anfield erupts. 50th min: What a chance for Liverpool!  A Manchester City move breaks down on the edge of the box and within three passes Liverpool are in on goal through Salah. But the Egyptian can’t beat Ederson, who replays show got the slightest of touches on the finish to push it around the post (though the referee failed to spot that and a goal-kick has been awarded). 46th min: Back under way at Anfield – who can stamp their mark on this game in the second half? HALFTIME: It’s 0-0 at the break at Anfield but that is one of the highest-quality goalless halves you’ll see. Neither side has been able to carve out what you’d call a gilt-edged opportunity but they’ve both come close and the game has constantly felt on a knife-edge. The first goal will surely be huge. 40th min: De Bruyne chips a ball over Gomez to Haaland at the back post but the Norwegian just can’t generate the power on his headed attempt, which Alisson collects. 32nd min: Haaland sneaks in behind and tries to dink a finish over Alisson but the Brazilian is tall enough to grab the ball out of the air. This game is brilliantly poised. 21st min: Elliott hangs up to the back post where Jota gets a clear header at goal but it’s straight into the grateful arms of Ederson. Both sides at it so far in what has been an engrossing start. 15th min: The first shot on target of the game goes to the visitors, with Gundogan forcing Alisson into a comfortable save down to his right. 11th min: City now settling into this and it is they who are enjoying the lion’s share of the ball. Liverpool have to defend well to keep this multitude of threats at bay. 4th min: Liverpool enjoying a decent start, pinning City in a bit with a spell of possession and this crowd is loving it. They’re booing every touch a visiting player gets. 1st min: Erling Haaland starts the game, with Manchester City attacking the Kop end in the first half. 15 mins from kickoff: The warm-ups come to a close and Liverpool are enthusiastically roared back into the dressing rooms. They’ll need this crowd today. 45 mins from kickoff: Well, some interesting calls from Jurgen Klopp there. Despite Alexander-Arnold making the squad, it looks like James Milner starts at right-back. And it’s a brave shout to throw Harvey Elliott in given his tender years. As for City, that’s a surprisingly normal-looking teamsheet from Pep Guardiola in a big game. Given the form these two sides have shown as late, there is absolutely no need for the Spaniard to come up with a left-field plan. 1 hour from kickoff: Team news is here! Liverpool: Alisson, Milner, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Thiago, Elliott, Firmino, Jota, Salah. Manchester City: Ederson, Cancelo, Dias, Akanji, Ake, Rodri, Gundogan, Silva, De Bruyne, Foden, Haaland. 1 hour 10 mins from kickoff: One thing Manchester City fans will be keen to see today: a fast start. Liverpool have conceded the opening goal in 17 of their last 21 games, and an early one for the visitors today could really take the sting out of the atmosphere. 1 hour 40 mins from kickoff: A major fitness concern for Liverpool fans to consider as we close in on the team news announcements. Ibrahima Konate is an injury worry after picking up a muscle problem in training this week but, with Joe Gomez needed at right-back and Joel Matip out, can Jurgen Klopp afford not to take the risk? 2 hours from kickoff: The financial conversation has been the dominant one leading into Liverpool-Man City on Sunday. It’s probably an indicator of where how many expect this match to go. “Nobody can compete with City. We cannot act like them, it’s not possible.” “Newcastle have said ‘there’s no ceiling for this club’, and he’s absolutely right. Congratulations. Toward An Inclusive Metaverse: Meta Supports Research Project – MIXED Reality News https://collincountynewsonline.com/toward-an-inclusive-metaverse-meta-supports-research-project-mixed-reality-news/ Image: RODNAE Productions (Pexels) The metaverse should also work for people with disabilities. Meta supports a research project that aims to advance the inclusive metaverse. The “Social Virtual Reality” project is concerned with increasing accessibility in VR for people with disabilities, senior citizens, or those impaired by illness. In particular, the group looks at social VR apps such as VRChat, Rec Room, or Horizon Worlds. Social VR can improve quality of life “The buzzing world of SVR has the potential to open up a wide array of opportunities for disabled and older people to engage with life and improve its quality,” explains project leader Dr. Vanja Garaj. The Brunel Design School research director sees great potential in social VR apps. In addition to simple entertainment, for example, social VR combats loneliness. Improving employment prospects for people with disabilities through VR training or VR online education is also possible, she says. A framework for an inclusive metaverse The research team aims to develop a “Social Virtual Reality Inclusion Framework” within the next three years. This will include tools and guidance on how to make the metaverse more accessible for elders, people with vision or hearing loss, dexterity or mobility issues, mental illness, cognitive impairments, or learning disabilities. One such approach is already offered by the VR app WalkinVR, which makes current VR hits such as Beat Saber or Job Simulator accessible to people with physical disabilities. The VR fitness app FitXR also focuses on inclusion, offering workouts for people with mobility impairments, for example. Kündigung jederzeit online möglich ab 2,80 € / Monat Meta supports research for more inclusion in the metaverse Other organizations involved in the project include Cambridge University and tech giant Meta. According to Dr. Garaj, Meta played a decisive role in the realization of the project. Meta’s support helped justify the project at the proposal stage, he said. It is unclear what the group’s involvement was in concrete terms. However, it is likely to be mainly advisory and offering technical support, as the project is funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) to the tune of just under $1.1 million. “We see Social VR as a significant step towards the ‘full-blown’ metaverse and Meta is leading the efforts to establish this new global network,” Garaj said. ASUS Zenbook 17 Fold OLED (UX9702): Fascinating Foldable Laptop Of The Future Tech Edt
ASUS Zenbook 17 Fold OLED (UX9702): Fascinating Foldable Laptop Of The Future Tech Edt
ASUS Zenbook 17 Fold OLED (UX9702): Fascinating Foldable Laptop Of The Future – Tech Edt https://collincountynewsonline.com/asus-zenbook-17-fold-oled-ux9702-fascinating-foldable-laptop-of-the-future-tech-edt/ ASUS’ innovative Zenbook 17 Fold is here to prove that folding gadgets are the way of the future. ASUS has built the device of choice for gadget enthusiasts by allowing the converting of a powerful 17″ tablet into a 12″ compact laptop that is smaller than a sheet of photocopier paper. It’s almost similar to a supersized Samsung Galaxy Fold 4 running on Windows 11, which is quite intriguing. Its folding design should inform you that this isn’t your average laptop but rather the most advanced look at the evolution of the ordinary laptop. The cool aspect is evident, but knowing what you’re getting is critical. Folding laptops are no longer a revolutionary futuristic concept, but they nevertheless draw attention in public, something you’ll have to accept if you’re traveling or commuting. CPU: Intel® Core i7-1250U Processor 1.1 GHz RAM: 16GB LPDDR5 Display: 17.3-inch, 2560 x 1920 FOLED 4:3 aspect ratio, 0.2ms response time, 500nits HDR peak brightness, 100% DCI-P3 color gamut Storage: 1TB SSD Ports: 2 x Thunderbolt 4, 1 x 3.5mm Combo Audio Jack Battery life: 75WHrs (ASUS website) Wireless: Wi-Fi 6E(802.11ax) (Dual band) 2*2 + Bluetooth 5 Dimensions: 37.85 x 28.76 x 0.87 ~ 1.29 cm Weight: 1.50 kg Premium build redefined Zenbook 17 Fold OLED redefines the idea of premium, from its exclusive color and high-tech materials to its exquisite finish. You’ll never have to settle for less in a laptop because it has everything you need. The glass panel is also embossed with an ASUS logo that looks quite Star Fleet-esque, completing the futuristic image. The Zenbook 17 Fold opens and closes like a book, thanks to a patented hinge mechanism that runs down the center of the tablet. At first glance, it appears to be the same as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold, but upon closer inspection, some differences make the laptop the more sophisticated version. The hinge is easy to open and close and is not prone to damage due to the high build quality of the frame and display. Despite its large screen, the ZenBook 17 Fold OLED is quite portable. When unfolded, it measures only 8mm and weighs 1.50 kg. In terms of ports, there are two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports and a 3.5mm combo audio jack. In addition, the battery has a large capacity of 75Whrs. As a laptop with the keyboard folio positioned over the lower portion of the display screen and magnetically attached to the Fold. The integrated ErgoSense Bluetooth keyboard has a good 1.4mm key travel and does a fantastic job for typing. This connects to the Fold via Bluetooth, eliminating the need to physically connect to the laptop and making it more adaptable. However, when you go closer to the center, you’ll notice a higher amount of flex. This is less of an issue when the keyboard is placed on a table, but when used on the notebook itself, the flexing is fairly noticeable. Finally, at the top of the display screen, a 5MPx digicam is flanked by microphones. The visual quality is noticeably greater than on standard computers, and the microphones are adequate for your daily Zoom calls. Superior visuals due to its OLED display The 17.3-inch screen has a 4:3 aspect ratio and a 2560 x 1920 pixel resolution. If that seems strange, it’s because it folds into two 1920 x 1280 pixel monitors. The display has a maximum brightness of 500 nits, supports 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, is Pantone-approved, and is certified for display HDR 500 True Black. In a nutshell, it’s a fantastic display. Because this display screen is designed to fold in half, there is a crease in the center. Nonetheless, while the crease is visible when the display screen is turned off, it is barely discernible while in use. That is essentially true of all folding units. ASUS has increased the radius of the hinge so that the display screen does not rip up in the middle over time. When shutting this up for transport, the keyboard folio can be sandwiched between the two display screen components. Because the laptop has a screen-to-body ratio of 87%, the bezels may appear slightly thicker when compared to recent flagship notebook screens. The increased bezel area, on the other hand, can be very useful when unfolding the notebook. Last but not least, despite having a touchscreen display, the ZenBook 17 Fold is not compatible with any form of digital smart pen, which appears to be a limitation of the panel in this size, according to ASUS. Solid audio with Harman Kardon-certified quad-speaker Dolby Atmos audio system The ZenBook 17 Fold contains Harmon Kardon speakers on both sides of the chassis, although the audio experience will vary depending on the angle. The two speakers face left and right when completely unfolded and on its kickstand, providing good audio separation and balanced loudness. However, when in laptop mode, the two speakers are at the top and bottom, with the top firing upward and the bottom-firing toward you. This results in an unusual floating auditory experience. At higher volumes, the bottom speaker bounces off table surfaces fairly aggressively, creating an unnatural shrillness. Meanwhile, the speakers are quite crisp and detailed. They may also produce a lot of loudness but don’t anticipate much bass response. For casual viewing, the dialogue is clear and crisp, but if you want to listen to music, you should probably put on your headphones. Decent performance for everyday work The Zenbook 17 Fold performed nicely for typical work duties, web browsing, and light Photoshop use, thanks to its ample memory and fast storage. However, don’t anticipate a high-performance computer from this; it’s powered by the Intel i7 1250U, a low-wattage chip built for small and light notebooks. This processor will provide more than enough horsepower for many folks. However, this is not ideal for heavy content creators or gamers looking for a work-play laptop. The verdict: ASUS Zenbook 17 Fold OLED While the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED’s form factor is intriguing and futuristic, there is still work to be done to make it a more aesthetic and functional solution. However, the concept has its advantages, and we are excited to see what the future holds for this area. ASUS holds the title of the finest foldable laptop with the ASUS Zenbook 17 Fold, and this isn’t simply because there isn’t much competition right now. You get a more durable build, better multitasking, and a better display. Opening it like a book to reveal the stunning, huge interior screen is still magical, as is shutting it with a snap to put it into standby. In terms of a workhorse notebook, where productivity and value are important, the ASUS ZenBook 17 Fold OLED will deliver the kind of performance you’d expect from a standard Ultrabook. This machine may be able to run some video games, although it is not intended for that purpose. Furthermore, the Fold is a first-generation design that must pass the test of time before we can draw conclusions about its dependability and sturdiness. With a folding screen, that is the type of machine that requires a lot of care and is never a carefree ultraportable like typical laptops.

Musk suggested in a Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022, tweet that his rocket company SpaceX may continue to fund its satellite-based Starlink internet service in Ukraine. But Musk’s tone and wording also raised the possibility that the irascible Tesla CEO was just being sarcastic. (Hannibal Hanschke/Pool Photo via AP, File) Posted: Oct 16, 2022 / 12:43 PM CDT Updated: Oct 16, 2022 / 12:43 PM CDT WASHINGTON (AP) — A Ukrainian diplomat expressed optimism Sunday about securing the money needed for the continued operation of a satellite network funded by billionaire Elon Musk that has provided key battlefield and humanitarian contacts in the war with Russia. “It’s there, it’s working,” said the envoy, Oksana Markarova. “It will need to be working for a longer time.” She did not indicate whether Musk had agreed to continue funding his rocket company SpaceX’s Starlink internet service in Ukraine but said the country’s collaboration with the company has been excellent. “We got the Starlinks in Ukraine very quickly, in some areas for humanitarian support, it’s the only connection that we have,” Markarova told CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “And it’s very important to continue having it and I’m positive that we will find a solution there.” On Friday, senior U.S. officials confirmed that Musk had asked the Defense Department to take over funding for the service Starlink provides in Ukraine. Starlink, which provides broadband internet service using more than 2,200 low-orbiting satellites, has provided crucial battlefield communications for Ukrainian military forces since early in the nation’s defense against Russia’s February invasion. Musk suggested in a tweet Saturday that SpaceX may continue funding Starlink after all, though his tone and wording also raised the possibility that the Tesla CEO was just being sarcastic. It is not clear whether SpaceX has actually established future plans for service in Ukraine. “The hell with it … even though Starlink is still losing money & other companies are getting billions of taxpayer $, we’ll just keep funding Ukraine govt for free,“ Musk tweeted Saturday. Musk also recently has sparred with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy after the billionaire suggested that Ukraine cede the strategically important Crimea region to Russia and make other concessions as part of a peace deal, drawing a rebuke from Zelenskyy. Musk tweeted on Friday that it was costing SpaceX $20 million a month to support Ukraine’s communications needs. Markarova said Ukraine has “disagreed with Elon Musk on some of his views about Crimea, and we were happy to discuss it with him.” She added that Ukraine is proud “to be one of the fastest growing Starlink countries globally.” Business News Political News Technology News Science News Entertainment News Odd News

Analyzing The Bears Through 6 Games Chicago Sun-Times
Analyzing The Bears Through 6 Games – Chicago Sun-Times https://collincountynewsonline.com/analyzing-the-bears-through-6-games-chicago-sun-times/ One-third of the way through the 18-week season — the Bears play 17 games and have one bye —Sun-Times reporter Patrick Finley issues a report card: What is Matt Eberflus’ grade through 6 games? C. As expected— and demanded by his H.I.T.S. system — Eberflus coaches a team that plays hard on every snap. They’ve yet to fracture despite a disparity in performance between the defense, which is competent, and the offense, which is not. But the Bears’ main goal this season is to develop Fields into a franchise quarterback —and they’re stuck in the mud on that front. Is Justin Fields getting better or worse? The numbers say he’s getting worse. Fields is averaging fewer yards per game and has a lower passer rating this year than last season. His sack rate and interception rate are higher this year than last. The Bears, though, are treating this season as a 17-game test, and quarterback growth is rarely incremental. If Fields can figure it out — and if his coaches can find the best way to use him — those numbers can flip quickly. What is one change the Bears must make offensively? The Bears need to find a way to better protect Fields schematically. That means more screens and quick throws, play-action passes that get him moving and cut the field in half and — yes — handing the ball off on some obvious passing downs. The only thing worse for the franchise than Fields struggling is him sitting on the sideline, injured. They must find a way to get him to Week 17 intact. What is the biggest problem facing the Bears overall? The same problem facing them in March and August —and one that they’ll still have to deal with in November, December and January: they lack the offensive playmakers to properly evaluate Fields. Velus Jones’ fumbles aren’t making their decision to pass on drafting a receiver in Round 2 look any smarter. What has been the best surprise? This season is about finding players who can star on the next good Bears team. Running back Khalil Herbert has proven he can start in 2023 and beyond. Whathas been the biggest disappointment? Defensive end Robert Quinn has one sack after setting a franchise record with 18.5 last year. Quinn is one of the few valuable pieces the Bears could trade by the Nov. 1 deadline. They need him to show signs of life first. What is your revised prediction of the Bears’ final record? Still 6-11. If we’ve learned anything about the NFL this season, it’s that, short of a half-dozen teams, anyone can be mediocre in a given week.
