NFTuesday’s Are Coming To Los Angeles – Cryptonews https://collincountynewsonline.com/nftuesdays-are-coming-to-los-angeles-cryptonews/
Disclaimer: The text below is an advertorial article that is not part of Cryptonews.com editorial content.
A mass of Web 2 entities are becoming hip to the vast marketing opportunities that Web 3 has to offer. By the coat tails of such notables as Tom Brady, Time Magazine, Ellen DeGeneres, and Ticketmaster- more and more people are leaving behind their former ‘NFT’s are expensive JPEGs’ stigma, and finally understand the revolutionary smart contract technology behind it.
For entrepreneur and Adjunct Professor at Loyola Law School, Charles Lew, now was the time to integrate NFTuesday’s at select restaurants throughout Los Angeles. “JPEG’s, pfp’s with no utility, memberships- I love it all without bias and have been standing behind NFT’s for years. I’m really excited about NFT’s further bridging the gap between brands and their end users, while also giving back to creators in various meaningful ways.” says Lew, owner of Stout Burgers and Beers, and Boomtown Brewery where the anticipated launch sites for NFTuesday’s will take place.
We got on a ZOOM with Charles to learn more about NFTuesday’s and what it means to the Los Angeles hospitality scene.
Q: What is NFTuesday?
A: My brewery is in the DTLA arts district and while I was visiting, walking by our huge Fuzi mural, it dawned on me that our brands have been supporting artists’ physical creations for years and it was time for us to do our part illuminating NFT’s in the same manner. NFTuesday’s take place at Boomtown Brewery and Stout Burgers and Beers locations, allowing NFT holders to get 20% off their meal or discount membership pricing.
Q: Well, that’s generous. Should we assume the NFT must be a blue-chip collection?
A: What kind of NFT supporter would I be if I said yes? Let’s just say, if the NFT in your wallet went to zero, you need the 20% off more than an ape does; we won’t discriminate.
Q: What’s the idea here, to raise awareness while also raising sales?
A: I say this with the utmost respect and humility, but we honestly don’t need the sales. This is strictly about having fun with the web 3 community with an IRL weekly opportunity. We want to show big love in this space, so this is how we’re going to do it. At the same time, much of the general public is still unfamiliar with the technology, and we want to make it a tinge more approachable as they see it more and more in their lives these coming years.
Q: Have you thought about a way to tie in the creators of some NFT projects?
A: Absolutely. We have 2 large digital frames in production which will feature a different artist and their creations each week. The round table discussion will always have open seats so various projects can collab with us on how theirs can fit into NFTuesday’s.
Q: Do you know other restaurants or bars that are doing something with NFT’s?
A: There are a lot of hospitality projects in the works not only here in Los Angeles, but also Las Vegas and Miami. We’re seeing early movers in spirits as well and have recently partnered with La Leyenda mezcal’s NFT project, which has a multisig wallet set up to give back to the agave farmers and their small town. Quite certain I heard a moonbird on one of those calls, or was it a goblin? It’s a really exciting collection we’ll have to tell you about next time.
Q: Intriguing to say the least. Anything else you want readers to know about NFTuesday’s?
A: Just come through if you’re in LA on a Tuesday! Follow Boomtown or Stout’s social media to find out when it launches this fall. We’re going to also have highly-collectible, limited-release NFT beers you might not want to miss. We’re ready to have a lot of fun with it and meet people IRL.
Undoubtedly, it is refreshing to watch the relationship between web 2 and web 3 fuse together in such accessible ways. Whether you’re just there to get three bucks off your gourmet burger, or you wave the blockchain flag big and proud, NFTuesday’s sound like a cool thing to check out the next time you’re in LA.

Consumer price index rises 0.1% in August
Rents, food and healthcare account for increase in CPI
Core CPI surges 0.6%; increases 6.3% year-on-year
WASHINGTON, Sept 13 (Reuters) – U.S. consumer prices unexpectedly rose in August and underlying inflation picked up amid rising costs for rents and healthcare, giving the Federal Reserve ammunition to deliver a third 75 basis points interest rate hike next Wednesday.
The surprisingly firm inflation readings reported by the Labor Department on Tuesday followed in the wake of recent data showing labor market resilience. The reports suggested that inflation could remain elevated for some time. Fed Chair Jerome Powell reiterated last week that the central bank was “strongly committed” to fighting inflation. read more
“The renewed jump in core prices for August undercuts the weaker headline inflation rate spurred by lower gasoline costs,” said Ben Ayers, a senior economist at Nationwide in Columbus, Ohio. “This should secure another 75-basis point rate hike at next week’s policy meeting as the Fed continues to take a strong stance against inflation.”

The consumer price index gained 0.1% last month after being unchanged in July. A 10.6% decline in gasoline prices was offset by increases in rents, food and healthcare. Food prices rose 0.8%, with the cost of food consumed at home increasing 0.7%. Consumers also paid more for electricity and natural gas.
Economists polled by Reuters had forecast the CPI dipping 0.1%. In the 12 months through August, the CPI increased 8.3%. While that was a deceleration from July’s 8.5% rise, inflation is running way above the Fed’s 2% target.
Beyond the dilemma the August inflation numbers present to the Fed, they are a headache as well for the Biden administration and congressional Democrats hoping to limit their losses in November’s mid-term elections, which are expected to flip the House of Representatives into Republican hands.
Though annual CPI peaked at 9.1% in June, which was the biggest gain since November 1981, it has remained above 8% for six straight months. With only one more CPI report due before Election Day it is unlikely to give up that handle before Americans head to the polls.
U.S. gasoline prices have plunged from an average record high above $5 per gallon in June, according to data from AAA. They were averaging $3.707 per gallon on Tuesday.
U.S. stocks opened lower. The dollar rallied against a basket of currencies. U.S. Treasury prices fell.
Fed officials gather next Tuesday and Wednesday for their regular policy meeting. Financial markets have almost priced in a 75 basis points rate increase next Wednesday, according to CME’s FedWatch Tool.
The Fed has twice hiked its policy rate by three-quarters of a percentage point, in June and July. Since March, it has lifted that rate from near zero to its current range of 2.25% to 2.50%.
Data last week showed first-time applications for unemployment benefits at a three-month low. Job growth was solid in August. There were two job openings for every unemployed person on the last day of July.
That is supporting strong wage gains, contributing to higher prices for services and keeping underlying inflation elevated.
Excluding the volatile food and energy components, the CPI rose 0.6% in August after advancing 0.3% in July. Economists had forecast the so-called core CPI increasing 0.3%.
Underlying inflation was also driven by higher prices for household furnishings and operations as well as new motor vehicles, motor vehicle insurance and education.
But there were decreases in the costs of airline fares, communication and used cars and trucks.
In the 12 months through August, the core CPI increased 6.3% after rising 5.9% in July.

Twitter, a micro-blogging site has announced that the Blue subscribers of the platform can now have access to revamping the Spaces featuring podcasts.
The platform said the new feature is currently rolling out to iOS users and will be coming soon to Android users.
“Listen up: podcasts are coming to Twitter! Now available in Twitter Blue Labs — members on iOS get early access to try the redesigned @TwitterSpaces tab, which includes podcasts, themed audio stations, and live + recorded Spaces,” the platform said.
Meanwhile, the platform recently announced it had rolled out a small test for its much-awaited Edit Tweet feature.
As per TechCrunch, the company said that once the feature is available users will be able to edit their tweets for up to 30 minutes from posting. However, users can only edit their tweets five times within this period.
The platform said that it is currently observing user behaviour, and the number of edits available to users in the approved time frame could change.
Edit Tweet is currently being tested by a Twitter team internally, amid the ongoing legal battle with Tesla CEO Elon Musk over the cancellation of the $44 billion takeover deal.

Apartment High-Rise Going up on Near H.P. Another Steve Brown banger, as the DMN reporter lets us know that StreetLights Residential, “North Texas’ most experienced high-rise apartment builder,” whatever that means, is set to build a 20-story apartment building called The Galatyn, scheduled to open in 2025. This bit caught my eye: “With more than 50,000 rental units under construction, North Texas leads the nation in apartment building.”
Central Expressway Wreck Causes Weak Pun in Paper. An evening rush-hour crash yesterday led to this lackadaisical effort in the News: “Not everyone has to like it, but a crash that cropped up Monday afternoon involving a truck that was carrying corn and other canned vegetables caused traffic delays on U.S. Highway 75 in Richardson.” Seriously? Steve Blow built the Rock of Truth with his bare hands so that you could waste ink with that weak-ass word play? This is just off the top of my head, without a white board or anything: “A wreck today on Central proved that there’s more than a kernel of truth to the maxim that haste makes waste. A truck spilled its load of canned corn.” Or how about this: “A big rig driver today on Central must have been playing it by ear because he got into a wreck and spilled a load of canned corn. It’s fair to say the driver had a bad day on the cob.” Y’all, this isn’t the Tyler Morning Telegraph. Let’s step it up.

The deadline to register to vote is October 11.

Despite the drop, Ethereum remains on top in the DeFi list despite the TVL drop.
Big and small sized DeFi players like Maker Dao, Uniswap, Curve finance, Lido took a hit at ETH TVL drop.
With the market showing slow signs of recovery from its bearish zone, the charts may show volatile patterns of inflow majorly due to two or more reasons like mounting fear of new developments on the ETH network, cash flow shortage and increasing inflation across countries.

Albert Pujols Is Showing Us The Magic Of Sticking Around The Washington Post
Albert Pujols Is Showing Us The Magic Of Sticking Around – The Washington Post https://collincountynewsonline.com/albert-pujols-is-showing-us-the-magic-of-sticking-around-the-washington-post/
By the time Albert Pujols hit his historic home run Sunday in Pittsburgh, I was on southbound Interstate 79 heading home.
I missed him tattooing a 2-0 pitch in the top of the ninth inning into the distance, toward the skyline and the intensely yellow Roberto Clemente Bridge. I missed the ball landing somewhere beyond right-center and igniting a scramble between three grown men who dived headfirst into the front row for the souvenir. I missed the proud caravan of St. Louis Cardinals fans, my people, going bonkers and turning PNC Park into their Steel City vacation rental.
Their shouts of “Albert! Albert! Albert!” energized an otherwise dreary Sunday, all because they had the privilege of witnessing something special. That ball Pujols hammered drove in the go-ahead runs in the Cardinals’ comeback win; more importantly, it was his 697th home run, the fourth most in Major League Baseball history.
And where was I during this unforgettable moment that those fans will be telling their kids and grandkids about until their dying day? Back in my car, thinking about how, on my deathbed, I’ll be recounting the September afternoon when I missed what should have been the hands-down greatest highlight in my life as a baseball fan.
Oh, I was at that game. I specifically chose that weekend, and that city, with the intention of seeing Albert one last time. This summer, I’ve scrolled through so many of my friends’ vacation pics on Instagram. Some of them have gone to Capri, Italy; Marrakesh, Morocco; and Porto, Portugal.
I went to Pittsburgh.
It should’ve been the vacation of my dreams. Everything lined up perfectly. Pujols came into Sunday tied with Alex Rodriguez at 696 homers. Instead of sitting out the last game of the road trip, he was in the lineup — playing first base, just like old times. He was even batting cleanup. Anything could happen, and I would be there, in person, to see it for myself.
Ten-year-old me would’ve been so proud, thinking I turned out to be the coolest grown-up ever. But by the seventh inning, 42-year-old me kept wondering how traffic might be on the 4½-hour drive back to Washington.
It’s so hard to be both a mature adult and a sports fan. The two roles just don’t work together.
Who has the stamina to stay up until 2:50 a.m. and watch one of the greatest U.S. Open matches of all time? Sorry, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, but do you mind wrapping up your thrilling, five-set, five-hour smackdown already? We’ve got work in the morning.
And who among us can truly shame those Miami Heat fans who left Game 6 early? Yeah, sure, it was the 2013 NBA Finals and Ray Allen was about to hit that unforgettable three-pointer, the stuff of legend, but have you ever navigated downtown Miami gridlock? You would’ve left after the national anthem.
That’s why, in retrospect, I side with my buddy Wesley’s dad. Wes Buchek and I have been friends for almost three decades, sharing our love for St. Louis sports. The Bucheks, however, were a bit more die-hard, attending more games at Busch Stadium than I ever did. That is, of course, until the sixth or seventh innings.
When the Buchek boys were little, their dad got them tickets to tons of weeknight games, but they always had to leave their seats early. Their dad needed rest; he worked a good, honest job and had to punch the clock in the early a.m., for crying out loud. And Wes — poor buddy — remembers one sad car ride back home, listening to KMOX radio when Bernard Gilkey hit a two-out single in the bottom of the ninth to snap the Montreal Expos’ seven-game winning streak.
Even today, life keeps getting in the way of Wes catching some of the Cardinals’ magical moments. He and his wife, Amanda Verbeck, having not had a getaway in a while, went off into the boondocks over the weekend. They didn’t have WiFi and therefore missed out on watching Albert slam No. 696. But while Wes was being a responsible husband, I was going to be the big kid cheering on the oldest kid in the park.
Pujols is defying what “the end” should look like. He scripted a Hall of Fame career during his first 11 years in St. Louis. He was a once-in-a-generation talent, but he left for the obscurity of the Los Angeles Angels. (Sigh, if only that city would stop poaching our finest treasures.)
But thankfully, this season Albert returned to Baseball Heaven, and he’s once again wearing the birds on the bat. He came back to retire as a Cardinal, but he’s nobody’s ornament. He’s not just the aging ballplayer who smiles and waves as he receives gifts from opposing teams and polite applause from rival fans. Instead, he’s pursuing 700 home runs with a mighty swing that’s still one of the most feared in baseball.
At the Home Run Derby, Albert pulled off an improbable upset of hard-hitting Kyle Schwarber in the opening round. Last month, he crushed two homers in Phoenix, passing Stan Musial for second all time in total bases. And recently, in his last at-bat against the Chicago Cubs, he won the game with a pinch-hit two-run bomb in the eighth.
And he’s doing this while looking like somebody’s tío with that belly protruding over his belt and a hairline that’s going, going, gone. That’s what makes his 22nd and final season so special. He’s one of us — a real-life adult.
Albert and I, we’re the same age. So I understand why that six-pack of abs is now just a cask of lard. And yet, he’s got me loving baseball like I did when I was a child. Every night I’m refreshing Twitter — the modern-day equivalent of the next morning’s box score — to see if my balding, bulging Tío Alberto has done it again.
That’s why I drove to Pittsburgh, to lounge in the upper deck and wait on history. Then, adulthood started tapping on my shoulder, asking important questions such as whether the gas prices are better in West Virginia or Maryland.
The Cardinals were down 1-0 and treating this game against the last-place Pirates as though it was required reading. They looked lifeless, and Albert was 0 for 3. After he struck out, Lars Nootbaar was caught stealing and Tyler O’Neill ended the seventh, I headed for the exits, thinking it was safe to start the long drive home.
As I walked the Seventh Street Bridge and heard the fireworks from a Pirates solo home run, I felt even more justified. Still, I kept hearing the protests of my 10-year-old self: Stay! Albert still has one more at-bat!
I was less than an hour into my trip and still trying to shake that nagging feeling when I checked the final score. Cardinals, 4-3. Pujols HR. I wanted to slam my head against the steering wheel.
I called Wes for comfort. It felt as though he laughed for a minute straight. He had me on speakerphone, and when I shared what might be the worst decision in my sports life, he said Amanda buried her head in the pillow.
I went to Pittsburgh to see my favorite ballplayer, my peer, accomplish history. His final season has already been a lesson in unexpected endings. Sunday, he gave me one final reminder: If you don’t stick around until the end, you never know what you might miss.
Upside Tech Alliance Launches To Bring Technology Solutions To Local Leaders PR Newswire
Upside Tech Alliance Launches To Bring Technology Solutions To Local Leaders – PR Newswire https://collincountynewsonline.com/upside-tech-alliance-launches-to-bring-technology-solutions-to-local-leaders-pr-newswire/
Comprised of Aclima, Bitwise Industries, BlocPower, and Promise, the alliance partners with local leaders to implement technology solutions that serve the public good and drive economic growth
, /PRNewswire/ — With recent funding from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), and the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), local and city leaders have access to unprecedented levels of resources. To help cities deliver the benefits of these funding opportunities, four companies from the Kapor Capital portfolio —Aclima, Bitwise Industries, BlocPower, and Promise—are jointly announcing today the launch of the Upside Tech Alliance.
The members of the alliance partner with local leaders to implement innovative technology that unlocks economic opportunities with the speed, agility, and scale of successful technology companies. Championed by Mitch Kapor and Freada Kapor Klein, the Upside Tech Alliance uses processes honed while scaling each of the four companies, then applies them to tailored programs that quickly implement city solutions.
“Led by successful companies with committed leadership, the Upside Tech Alliance helps local leaders looking to propel their cities and regions into an equitable, sustainable, and digital future,” said the Kapors. “For those looking to unlock economic growth in their regions while serving the public good during such an important moment, this is the perfect place to start.”
Here is how the Upside Tech Alliance works:
Understand the opportunity at a local level: The Upside Tech Alliance listens to the needs of city leaders to implement programs to address current goals. Then, the members of the alliance collect and analyze data to shape each approach. This could include modeling city-wide building emissions, mapping air quality and greenhouse gasses at the neighborhood block level, assessing past-due debt for utilities, or auditing a city’s digital infrastructure.
Pilot a customized program: Upside Tech Alliance quickly pilots projects. These projects allow the members of the alliance to test assumptions, build relationships with the community, and adjust solutions for each locality, whether launching a payment portal for a small group of residents or retrofitting a sample set of buildings to increase energy efficiency.
Secure funding: Working with local leaders to identify funding sources and navigate the procurement process, the Upside Tech Alliance leverages programs like the IRA, IIJA, or ARPA or secures donations from philanthropies.
Execute to achieve goals: With a solid foundation, the Upside Tech Alliance designs and launches programs to serve the community, spreading the word through direct outreach and the media. The success is measured by analyzing data, tracking progress, and ultimately, by residents doing better, and cities achieving their goals.
Upside Tech Alliance company, Promise, led by founder and CEO Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins, brings flexibility and affordability to public service payments. This helps maximize revenue for utilities and governments while giving the people they serve more choices. This year, Promise met with the City of Newark and Mayor Baraka. Within eight weeks, the City of Newark and Promise had met, piloted, and launched, becoming the fastest city to implement the program. Additionally, in the first five days of the pilot, ten percent of the eligible residents had enrolled over $600,000 of debt in payment plans. Newark’s success is only the start of the Upside Tech Alliance’s potential.
“Our success is measured by people doing better. You get the benefit of technology, iteration, design, user experience, and data. You get all the things that the private sector does well, but we are using it as a force for good,” said founder and CEO of Promise, Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins.
This summer, Aclima announced a statewide air quality and greenhouse gas mobile monitoring initiative in New York State designed to support the state’s goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions 85 percent by 2050. The effort maps air quality and pollution block-by-block using Aclima’s mobile-mapping technology that collects and analyzes billions of air quality and greenhouse gas measurements. Aclima is recruiting and training local workers to operate its network — creating jobs in those communities most impacted by air pollution. BlocPower is providing workforce development support to Aclima to train and staff the New York operation to aid in this initiative. This is just one example of two members of the Upside Tech Alliance joining forces to meet city and state climate goals.
“By working with Aclima and BlocPower together, you’re turning climate action into an engine for economic development while also targeting emissions to improve public health. And you’re helping to reduce economic disparities and create stable, good-paying jobs in historically under-resourced communities through climate action,” said Davida Herzl, Co-Founder & CEO of Aclima.
The Upside Tech Alliance brings together all stakeholders, including policymakers, philanthropies, private capital, and communities, to finally put technology in the service of the public good. Starting on September 14th, CEOs from the Upside Tech Alliance will be at the Smart City Expo in Miami, Florida, presenting how to work together and solutions that come to life. More information here.
About Upside Tech Alliance:

Founded by Aclima, Bitwise Industries, BlocPower, and Promise, the Upside Tech Alliance brings the speed, agility, and scale of successful technology companies to local governments. By bringing together all stakeholders, the members of the alliance create a network effect that unlocks economic opportunities and increases climate resilience. Are You Heading To The Beach For A Vacation? Here Are The Things That You Need To Pack In Your Suitcase – Zoom TV https://collincountynewsonline.com/are-you-heading-to-the-beach-for-a-vacation-here-are-the-things-that-you-need-to-pack-in-your-suitcase-zoom-tv/
During the pandemic itself, the domestic travel industry saw a huge surge in Indians visiting local beach destinations such as Goa, Alibaug and Kerala. This trend is still going strong post and as a result, we are seeing rapid growth in beachwear and swimwear sales in the country.
As the beach culture is gaining popularity in India, resort wear as a category is gaining traction and new brands are popping up every month. Previously limited to designers doing small capsule collections in between seasons, the market now has a wide range available from high-end established brands to small, independent designers.
The holiday months are just around the corner and we bet you’ve begun planning your trip and the things that you need to carry in your carry-on luggage. We went on to chat with Alysha Vazirally, Founder of Sioli Resort Wear who went on to share the growing fashion trends of the season and all the things that you need to carry to look like a fashionista.
– Starting with crochet, you can choose from bucket hats and cute swimsuits to halter tops or fun beach pants. Crochet is summery and breathable and easy addition to any wardrobe.
– Flowing maxis are all the rage on the beach this summer – it’s about making a bold fashion statement with minimal effort. I strongly recommend choosing a design with these fun tones for a pop of colour. Another strong trend making a comeback are beach kaftans. No longer just a simple cover-up, they have evolved to make a strong fashion with lots of fluidity and movement and pair it with gold flats on the beach or ultra-high Plexi heels for the beach club.
– Finally, you can’t plan a trip to the beach without a big bag to put everything in, from sunblock and tanning oil, to a fun towel to lounge on and a good book to read.
– My favourite way to carry all my beach paraphernalia is a giant tote. From straw to linen, customized with your initials or with fun embroidered quotes, the options are endless. A fun but practical way to be fashionable.
Who knew it is so easy to look so stylish!

Sports Director Jenny Green Retires After 35 Years In News IndyStar
Sports Director Jenny Green Retires After 35 Years In News – IndyStar https://collincountynewsonline.com/sports-director-jenny-green-retires-after-35-years-in-news-indystar/
INDIANAPOLIS ‒ Jenny Green is sitting on the back porch of her Indianapolis home in a navy blue IndyStar sports polo shirt and jeans, sitting on a wicker chair where she can see chipmunks and squirrels scurrying past in the yard.
She is sitting at her Delaware Street home and, more often than not, she is staring down at her feet.
Green is humble. Praise makes her blush. She hates attention. She likes nothing better than to be behind the scenes making things happen, making things better.
That, after all, has been her life as editor extraordinaire, doing all the stuff that makes a story great, a story brilliant, and doing it with little credit. Editors don’t get bylines and Green has always liked that.
Truth be told, Green doesn’t want to be doing this, either. Being interviewed for a story on her retirement after an illustrious 35-year career of intense, high pressure journalism, helping to churn out newspapers in major metropolitan markets across the United States, her last 20 years at the Indianapolis Star.
Green, 58, retired from her role as IndyStar’s sports director Sept. 1 due to health issues.
Five days later, she is reluctantly telling her story, one of a humble upbringing that shaped her into a woman who, by 23, was the news director at her first paper. Who, by 28, was third in charge at the Cincinnati Enquirer. And who, in her early 30s, was leading the Broward County edition of the Miami Herald.
Green never got the chance to not be in charge. Everywhere she went, people saw something in her, something that said this woman needs to be a leader. Green had a gentle, calming spirit across the newsroom, IndyStar executive editor Bro Krift said.
“She earned her peers’ respect because of her dedication to the craft as well as her devotion to those she worked beside,” Krift wrote in an email announcing Green’s retirement. “She cared about you and me and everyone who came into this newsroom.”
Green’s departure from journalism leaves behind a portfolio that brought readers some of the biggest stories to make headlines in the U.S.
The first Black president, Barack Obama, in 2008. The tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001, that changed the landscape of America. The contentious “hanging chad” 2000 election between George Bush and Al Gore in Broward County. Elian Gonzalez, the 5-year-old boy found on Thanksgiving Day 1999 off the coast of Florida clinging to an innertube as his mother died trying to bring her family to the U.S. from Cuba.
In Indianapolis, Green was there for Andrew Luck’s abrupt retirement in 2019, the Pacers-Pistons brawl in 2004, the Hamilton Avenue murders that left three children and four adults dead in an Indianapolis home. And she was there in 2006 for the accident that killed five Taylor University students and ended in the mistaken identification of two victims.
Green was there, too, for Qudrat Wardak, the baby with a bad heart who came to Indianapolis from a squalid Afghan refugee camp. He received his new heart in February 2005, a beacon of joy and hope, then he died three months later.
Jenny Morlan will never forget that little boy’s death because of the devastation, but also because of Green’s heart and compassion.
Green was IndyStar’s front page editor that night in 2005, when she was called over by another editor in the newsroom and told Qudrat had died. Green walked back to her desk, sat down and cried.
“She could barely get out the words, ‘Qudrat died,’” said Morlan, a former IndyStar editor who sat across from Green in the newsroom. “I will never forget that, how much she cared about the people her newspaper wrote about.”
And how much she cared about the people in the newsroom. Green would never ask anyone to do anything she wouldn’t do herself.
Morlan says if a newsroom were a restaurant and, to run smoothly, that restaurant needed the dishes washed, Green would wash the dishes.
As big stories broke, Green would not only edit but pitch in to write sidebars and stories, never putting her byline on them. Just writing to make things better.
Green loved journalism. She still loves journalism.
“If I could have stayed,” Green said from her home last week. “I would have.”
‘She had this presence’
Green is the daughter of artists, a father and mother who sometimes were starving artists. She was a kid in Kansas who, one winter, lived in a tiny one-room studio no bigger than a sun porch with her parents and two brothers. She was a young girl who, in that brutal winter, trudged into the dark, frigid snow to use the outhouse.
She was a student who qualified for free school lunches until her mom, Donna Barker, realized that the kids who got free lunches had different colored cards than the children whose families paid for lunch.
Donna and Ed Barker sent in the money to make sure Green and her two brothers had the cards that would keep other kids from teasing them.
As a young girl, Green tagged along with her parents as they drove from city to city for art shows, her mom a sculptor and her dad a potter.
Her dad, Ed Barker, always said: “It’s no way to make a living, but it’s a great life.”
Green didn’t dream of being a journalist. That wasn’t something a young girl living in remote Kansas in the 1970s dreamed of. But after graduating from high school, Green went to the University of Kansas, where she enrolled in a copy editing class, and loved it. Then she enrolled in more journalism classes and loved those even more.
She started working for the university’s newspaper and knew this would be her career. When she graduated college, Green didn’t have to search for a job. Her first professor took care of that.
“He fell for Jenny,” said her husband, Ted Green. “He saw something there.”
Green was hired as a copy editor at the Argus Leader in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. But soon, the newspaper saw what her professor had seen. At 23, she was named the paper’s news editor.
Fifteen months later, Green landed a spot at the Cincinnati Enquirer as a copy editor then wire editor, then assistant news editor. And then she became news editor, third in charge at the paper.
That’s when Ted Green met his future wife.
Ted Green was working in Boca Raton and had been out in the sun playing beach volleyball. He was interviewing for the Enquirer’s sports copy desk in the early 1990s. He went to a news meeting surrounded by people, mostly in their 40s and 50s, mostly men.
“And at the far end was this beautiful, 28-year-old news editor, I mean striking,” Ted Green said. When he was introduced at that meeting, Green called him “Tan Ted.” He was hooked.
He watched Green go around the table asking what stories were coming the next day, local, national, what would run on the front page. “Man, she was leading this meeting, a woman in her 20s,” Ted Green said. “She had this presence.”
When he was hired by the Enquirer, Ted Green continued to watch in awe this young woman who, virtually, ran the newsroom. At night, the journalists would go out to the bar after work. Green and Ted ended up at the same bar on more than one occasion. They fell in love and were married in 1994.
Two years later, both got impressive job offers and “Tan Ted” and Green were headed toward the sun.
‘You want to make her proud of you’
In the spring of 1996, the Greens made a new home in Florida working for the Miami Herald. They lived in Hollywood, close to where Green headed the copy desk of the Broward County edition of the newspaper. Ted Green worked in the main newsroom as an assistant sports editor.
Green’s passion to give readers her best, her newsroom’s best, went to new levels.
When a hurricane ended in tragedy in Broward County, a family electrocuted as they tried to save one another walking into waters with downed lines, as people drove off into canals thinking they were on the road, Green and colleague Mary Byrne wanted to make sure those deaths weren’t buried.
They wanted to be sure they were on the front page of the Broward County edition. Green and Byrne drove down I-95, fighting flooding, and pulled into a parking garage by the Miami Herald’s main office. They rolled up their jeans and waded into the newsroom.
And they changed the front page of the Broward edition.
“They were so concerned that the Broward news get that coverage, they risked a lot,” said Ted Green. “They did this on their own. That was their commitment to their readers.”
Paul Anger was there for all of that. He hired Green at the Miami Herald and watched as Green led a copy desk in a Broward newsroom of 100 people.
“She was one of the most calm, pragmatic, organized editors that I had ever worked with,” said Anger. “I remember thinking that she is unusual in this business. There isn’t a lot of drama; there isn’t a lot of hand wringing.”
Green never needed to raise her voice. Though, she said there was one night in Cincinnati that she yelled across the newsroom when a reporter hadn’t closed a file and deadlines were looming.
“So I did that once,” Green said, laughing. “One time.”
But mostly, Green never yelled. She didn’t have to. “People wanted to do well not just for themselves but for her,” said Anger. “You wanted to make her proud of you.”
Green was brilliant and unbelievably competent, said Rick Hirsch, who led the Broward County office during Green’s tenure and is now the senior editor for talent development at McClatchy.
“In some ways, she was too nice to be a journalist,” he said. “She was really kind and level-headed and had great news judgment. She was really just a consummate pro and a delight and had a sense of humor and didn’t take herself too seriously. When you put all that together, how many journalists do you know that check all those boxes?”
Green shined at the Herald and so did Ted Green. Soon, both got dream job offers ‒ Green to be natio...

Dyson Air Purifier Cool Formaldehyde (TP09) Review: Unparalleled Performance At A Cost Gizbot
Dyson Air Purifier Cool Formaldehyde (TP09) Review: Unparalleled Performance At A Cost – Gizbot https://collincountynewsonline.com/dyson-air-purifier-cool-formaldehyde-tp09-review-unparalleled-performance-at-a-cost-gizbot/
Dyson Air Purifier Cool Formaldehyde (TP09) Features & Specifications
As the name suggests, the latest TP09 model focuses on cleaning the surroundings of formaldehyde (CH2O). Most simple yet most reactive of all aldehydes, the colorless gas at room temperature has a pungent smell and is mostly caused by modern furnishings such as wooden products containing (plywood and fibreboard), paint, wallpapers, varnishes, and household cleaning products. Carcinogenic to humans, indoor pollutants can affect nasal passages, respiration, and eyes.
To act on the pollutant, Dyson has equipped the new purifier with a dedicated solid-state formaldehyde sensor that works in sync with a unique catalytic filter to continuously clean the formaldehyde from indoors.
Additionally, the TP09 has HEPA H13 and activated carbon filters that act on dust, allergens, gases, and other ultra fine pollutants, which human eyes cannot see.
Similar to previous Dyson air-purification machines, the TP09 also applies Air Multiplier technology to purify indoor air.
The air purifier can be controlled and monitored remotely from anywhere using the Dyson Link app.
The new Dyson air-purifier also supports hands-free voice commands.
Dyson Air Purifier Cool Formaldehyde (TP09) comes with a two-year warranty.
Dyson Air Purifier Cool Formaldehyde (TP09) Setup & Smartphone App
The package contains the air-purifier machine, a set of filters, a quick-start guide, and a remote controller. Installing the filters in the base cylindrical body hardly takes a fewminutes.
Push the carbon filters into place on the machine.
Push the HEPA filter into the outer cover.
Put the outer covers into position on the base and push firmly until they both click securely into place.
Once you plug in the machine to the electricity supply, you can start operating it with the bundled remote or can use the smartphone app.
The Dyson app is available on both Android and iOS and is very neatly designed. All you need is to add the new machine to the application to start using the features. The app allows you to switch on/off the purifier remotely, change modes, check AQI levels, and other critical insights. Besides, you can also change the oscillation angle of the airpurifier, provided that you have enabled the same from the physical remote controller.
Dyson Air Purifier Cool Formaldehyde (TP09) Design & Build
Dyson airpurifiers are easily recognizable with their simple yet effective design. Like any previous Dyson air-purifier, the new model also comprises a cylindrical base unit and an elongated oval top with hidden blades that clean the polluted air sucked in by the 360˚ filters beneath. The top portion is capable of up to 350˚ oscillation to project clean air around the room. A small circular LCD is also positioned on the front to offer critical insights about the air quality, filer life, humidity, airflow speed, etc.
As it goes with most Dyson products, the new air-purifier has a solid build quality and looks aesthetically pleasing. The TP09 air-purifier is 105 centimeters tall, 22 centimeters wide, and weighs 4.86 kg. It is available in two colors- White and Gold. The gold color that we are evaluating looks elegant with its dual-tone color treatment. It goes perfectly with wooden furniture and copper color interiors.
Lastly, the curved and magnetized remote controller sits neatly on top of the machine, which is again a smart design approach as losing such tiny remotes is quite common.
Dyson Air Purifier Cool Formaldehyde (TP09) Performance
The most interesting upgrade is the new setup consisting of the solid-state formaldehyde sensor and the catalytic filter that continuously traps and breaks down formaldehyde molecules into water and CO2. According to Dyson, the catalytic filter uses an electrochemical cell to detect formaldehyde molecules – 500 times smaller than 0.1 microns.
To test the performance, we kept the air-purifier in a room with newly kept furniture, which was reeking of apungent smell, mostly because of the formaldehyde. We kept the machine running throughout the night in auto mode. The airflow speed was increased to the maximum to ensure better performance.
Effective Filtration
The next morning, the room had very little or no presence of the foul smell. Usually, the same pungent smell stays for a few weeks and keeps polluting the indoors. According to Dyson, the Purifier Cool Formaldehyde detects and destroys formaldehyde and continuously removes 99.95% of particles as small as 0.1 microns.
The fully-sealed 360° HEPA filter captures 99.95% of ultra fine particles from the air including the PM2.5 and PM10 pollutants. Combined with activated carbon, it also removes odors and potentially harmful VOCs.
No Heater Mode
The new model is priced almost similarly to Dyson’s Hot+Cool air-purifier; however, it lacks the heater mode. The heater mode is an extremely handy feature if you live in a city like Delhi wherein winters can be pretty cold. At its asking price, Dyson could have included the feature in the new mode.
Moving on, Dyson hasn’t specified the exact coverage area of the new model. Based on our experience with the previous Dyson machines and test results of the new mode, it would easily clean an indoor space with a coverage area of 600-700 sq. Ft. The new model would be projecting 290 liters of purified air per second in the room, which is quite impressive. And the air projected also addresses the annoying humidity in the spaces.
No Replacement Required For Formaldehyde Setup
The interesting bit is that the new formaldehyde sensor and the filter never need replacing, so you can rest assured of the replacement process. However, you would be required to replace the regular filters from time to time and they cost Rs. 6,000.
Silent Performance & Diffused Mode
Despite offering the same powerful airflow, the new TP09 model is fairly silent and doesn’t produce much noise. It won’t trouble you with any annoying humming noise, provided that the fans are set to run at medium speed or the machine is set to run at night mode.
Dyson has also added a new ‘Diffused Mode’ in the new model. It is recommended when you want to purify the room, without feeling the cool airflow. The purified air is diverted through the back of the purifier and dispersed into the room, without creating any cooling effect. This mode is recommended in the winter season.
The new Dyson air-purifier also supports voice commands and is also compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple Siri. If you have an Amazon smart speaker at home, all you need is to enable the Dyson skill to control the air purifier. You can also set routines that automate the machine’s synergy with other devices in your home.
Verdict
We recommend the new Dyson air purifier for homes or businesses with high formaldehyde exposure. For example, the new Dyson TP09 air purifier is ideal for users who spend the majority of their time in paint stores, hardware stores, or furniture stores. It is also an excellent machine for homes with high levels of dust, fumes, and other aldehydes. The price is higher, but the level of protection provided by the new model is unparalleled.

Number Of South Korean 20- And 30-Something Crypto Buyers Has ‘Nearly Tripled’ Since 2020 – Cryptonews https://collincountynewsonline.com/number-of-south-korean-20-and-30-something-crypto-buyers-has-nearly-tripled-since-2020-cryptonews/

More young South Koreans than ever are buying crypto, with the number of 20- and 30-somethings taking the plunge tripling since 2020. But this rise in bullish buying behavior has come at a price – with a sharp rise in youth bankruptcy claims reported over the same period.
Per the Busan Ilbo, demographic data on the users of the market-leading crypto exchange Upbit shows that as of October 2020, some 1,796,000 users aged 20-39 had active accounts on Upbit. That figure ballooned to 5,394,000 by October 2021. Data for this year is not yet available, but with trading volumes skyrocketing in the first few months of 2022, the figure may well have grown again.

The same media outlet noted that there has also been a rise in stock market activity – both domestic and overseas – in the same demographic group.
The regulatory Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) was quoted as stating that a “rapid increase” in personal debt had accompanied the rise in investment. It spoke of a “frenzy of investment in stocks and cryptoassets” in the demographic group – which has been dubbed “2030” by the South Korean media.
The FSS pointed to low interest rates “before and after the spread of COVID-19” as a major contributing factor. But financial experts have previously claimed that for young Koreans, crypto investment is “no longer optional.”
Spike in Young Crypto Buyers: The Cost
Bullish bitcoin (BTC) and altcoin buying has come at a price for younger South Koreans, who are now more likely to go into debt to pay for their crypto and stock investments.
The same media outlet reported that the amount of people aged 20 to 39 who have taken out loans from three or more financial institutions has increased by more than 30% in the past five years.
For people aged 20-29, the rise over the same period was 33%.
And this has all led to a rise in personal insolvencies. Supreme Court data shows that the number of individual rehabilitation (bankruptcy) applications from people in their 20s rose from 10,307 in 2019 to 11,108 in 2020 – hitting 11,907 in 2021.
In the first six months of this year, 6,364 individuals aged under 30 filed for bankruptcy, with experts opining that over 12,000 twentysomethings will claim insolvency before the year is out.

The price of gasoline fell steadily in August, but is still higher than it was a year ago.Credit…Hiroko Masuike/The New York Times
Sept. 13, 2022, 5:17 a.m. ET
The price of gasoline fell steadily in August, easing pressure on American consumers as the cost of filling a tank continued to tumble from record levels reached earlier in the summer.
Regular unleaded gasoline in the United States averaged $3.97 a gallon in August, down nearly 13 percent from $4.54 in July, data from AAA show. The price in August was more than 20 percent below a June 14 peak of $5.02.
Gasoline prices are still higher than they were a year ago, but falling fuel costs were a big reason July’s inflation reading showed that month-to-month gains in consumer prices had stalled — a welcome development for policymakers trying to cool off the economy.
Gasoline prices have dropped for 91 straight days, and the national average stood at just over $3.70 a gallon on Tuesday, but analysts point to a few reasons this streak of declines is unlikely to continue.
Because they’re ultimately determined by oil prices, gasoline prices are also susceptible to everything from hurricanes that knock out drilling in the Gulf of Mexico to efforts to punish Russia for its invasion of Ukraine by curbing its ability to sell crude on the global market.
As winter approaches, other fuel prices could influence inflation data. The cost of heating a home with natural gas, the most common source of home-heating fuel in the United States, is expected to jump more than 25 percent from last year, to $952 for the six months from October through March, according to the National Energy Assistance Directors’ Association.

Airbnb Testing anti-Party Algorithm To Enforce Ban On Big Parties Travel Tomorrow
Airbnb Testing ‘anti-Party’ Algorithm To Enforce Ban On Big Parties – Travel Tomorrow https://collincountynewsonline.com/airbnb-testing-anti-party-algorithm-to-enforce-ban-on-big-parties-travel-tomorrow/
Sleeping in someone else’s home. That’s what Airbnb used to be all about when it first launched but much has changed since then. Even though it’s still possible to come across a rare personal listing, the accommodation platform has mainly become a place to search for professionally exploited holiday rentals, much like Booking.com or other platforms in the same genre. Yet, sure, when you’re looking for a big home to rent with a whole group, it’s one of the best places to start looking. Yet what if you want to have a party trip instead of a normal vacation? Well, then, you’re not welcome any longer.
The whole party ban on Airbnb started during the pandemic. As people were forced to stay at home, as we weren’t allowed to see friends nor family, some tried to avoid the rules by renting a big, remote house and inviting all their friends for a good old party. Resulting in a rise in infections and causing quite a bit of commotion. Because who were these people that were so reckless amidst a global health crisis? Airbnb therefore explicitly started to forbid any parties at their rentals and even after the pandemic, things aren’t about to change. On the contrary.
Party animals, beware
Of course, organizing a party when you’re on holiday is a very fun idea. You get to invite friends and family and with a bit of luck you get to know new people. Yet if you do so in a house that isn’t yours, this can be quite annoying for the owners. Maybe you’re someone who cleans up after yourself but this isn’t the case for everyone – at all. Some even rent a place for the night, just to leave it in pieces the day after, because their party got out of hand.
That’s why Airbnb is now testing a new algorithm meant to eliminate those party beasts. The technology takes into account different data, such as the number of comments on your profile, the average length of your stays, the distance between your home and the location you’re renting… All of these can be indicating you’re just in it for the party rentals and if the algorithm thinks you’re such a party beast, it will now limit the listings you get to see. The tool has already been test running in Australia for a couple of months and – according to Airbnb – has caused a decrease of 35% of non-authorized parties. The algorithm will now be tested in the United States and Canada for further research.

Puget Sound Kidney Centers President and CEO Harold Kelly announced he plans to retire in 2023. Under Kelly’s leadership, PSKC grew from a small, community-based, nonprofit provider of dialysis to a regional health care organization operating 11 centers in six counties with five more kidney center projects pending throughout western Washington. Kelly led the creation and introduction of PSKC’s Chronic Kidney Disease patient education program, and established the PSKC Foundation, an organization that assists in fund-raising for the PSKC patients in need. To succeed Kelly, the board has hired Thomas DeBord as the incoming president and CEO. DeBord has served as chief operating officer of Overlake Medical Center since 2015. In this capacity he has overseen the day-to-day operations of the hospital, including numerous patient care services, and regulatory compliance. University of Massachusetts Lowell recently took action to highlight its commitment to promoting health and wellness. The university adopted the Okanagan Charter, a document in which post-secondary schools pledge to embed health promotion in all aspects of campus life and culture, and to help lead efforts to further it locally and globally.
UMass Lowell becomes the first New England campus to sign the charter. Created at an international conference in 2015, the charter is intended to give colleges and universities a framework to more thoroughly and systemically promote health and wellness.
UMass Chancellor Julie Chen cited the university’s ongoing efforts to encourage healthy living and general well-being, including its creation of an Office of Student Life & Well-being last year. But she said, “By signing the Okanagan Charter, we commit ourselves to viewing everything we do through a lens of promoting the health of our students, faculty, and staff — from individual practices to the policies we put in place across the university.”

UEFA Champions League Bold Predictions: Chelsea Start Slow Under Graham Potter, Crisis Deepens At Juventus – CBS Sports https://collincountynewsonline.com/uefa-champions-league-bold-predictions-chelsea-start-slow-under-graham-potter-crisis-deepens-at-juventus-cbs-sports/
It might have been less than a week since the Champions League began, but already it feels like we are entering a critical period of the competition. By the end of this week a third of the group stages will be concluded. Though it is not impossible for a team to overcome back to back losses to start the competition, it certainly makes for a pressured start to the tournament. As such let’s cast our eyes over three teams with plenty to prove after matchday one: Juventus, Liverpool and Chelsea.
Juventus vs. Benfica: Allegri slips deeper into the mire
Amid the thrills and furor of their fightback in Campania — most notably a contentious VAR call that denied Arkaduisz Milik a late winner but not a red card — it has perhaps gone forgotten that Juventus were 2-0 down to Salernitana. Davide Nicola’s side are not a bad team by any stretch of the imagination but this is the sort of team that a hulking giant of Italian football ought to be able to swat aside. In Massimiliano Allegri’s first spell in charge, Juve would have got out in front early on before throttling the contest as they saved their legs for more pressing concerns. Instead, they spent the dying minutes throwing the kitchen sink, dishwasher, oven and even a colander at Luigi Sepe’s goal.
It barely paid off. Discount the penalty Leonardo Bonucci missed and the rebound he turned into the net and Juventus created shots worth just 1.03 expected goals (xG) in a match they were chasing, one where Salernitana were perfectly willing to let them help themselves to the ball. Allegri’s side is one devoid of creativity — at least partly down to injuries suffered by Paul Pogba, Angel Di Maria and Federico Chiesa — that asks Dusan Vlahovic to not just score the goals himself but to beat three or four men in the process. If he wouldn’t mind laying on the pass to himself as well, that would be grand.
Take this passage of play early on. The industrious but creatively limited Weston McKennie has slipped Vlahovic in behind the Salernitana lines. Behind him are four Juventus players including the US international and Moise Kean, they’d have ground to make up but it is hardly as if the No.9 is entirely on his own when the pass is played.

Once Vlahovic takes a step onto his right foot ready to take his shot those potential options have dwindled to just Kean, stood in a position where he might be open for a pass but not one that is conducive to increasing the threat level of the attack. One might argue that Vlahovic goes too soon, that he could hold the ball up for longer, but it was not the only occasion in this game (let alone this season) that one Juventus forward has looked around the penalty area with the bafflement of Vincent Vega in Mia Wallace’s apartment.
With precious little support, Vlahovic runs into a tight angle and shoots against the side netting Wyscout/ArenaSport4
If that keeps happening it is probably not down to lackadaisical players but a manager who recently told Sky Italia “there is a difference between being beautiful and effective: you have to be effective. I don’t like being ‘pretty’ and not winning”. Right now Allegri’s Juventus are neither. They are the sort of team you watch behind the sofa, whether you’re a neutral or a supporter. At one end of the pitch basic errors and a lack of individual talent mean they are not the sort of defensive force that could keep an opponent to six or seven potshots in a game, and at the other they don’t create much at all from open play. In Serie A they might have a goal difference of plus five but in terms of xG they are no better in attack than they are in defense. The early season underlying metrics suggest this is a pretty average Italian club. Their performance against Paris Saint-Germain offered much the same indication for most of the game.
And so to Benfica. It is hard to know exactly how much store to place in the Portuguese giants run of 11 wins from 11 to start the new season. Domestically they are yet to face any of their great rivals while their group stage campaign began with a solid win over Maccabi Haifa, seemingly doomed to be Group H’s whipping boys. But there is creativity and spark aplenty in Roger Schmidt’s side with Rafa, David Neres and Goncalo Ramos all having made bright starts to the season. Against Dynamo Kyiv Benfica showed themselves to be a team capable of dictating terms in a match from start to finish. Juventus haven’t proven themselves to be at that level all that often this season. Things could be about to go from bad to worse in Turin.
Liverpool vs. Ajax: Pressing concerns remain
It was no surprise that the spotlight fell harshly on the Liverpool defense in the aftermath of their shellacking in Naples last week. This was a performance riddled with the most basic of errors, one that prompted deep questions over Joe Gomez, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk that extended beyond just the 90 minutes in the Stadio Diego Maradona. Those remain important issues for Jurgen Klopp to address — can Gomez get back to the player he was before injury, is this the best defender Alexander-Arnold can be and is Van Dijk’s peak in the rear view mirror? — but they are far from the only issues.
Indeed as Jamie Carragher identified on Wednesday’s Champions League Today show on Paramount+, the issues lie far higher up the pitch. “This is a problem for Liverpool – the high line and that they aren’t actually getting pressure on the ball,” said the former Reds defender. “The thing for me, right now is that Liverpool play a high-risk game, but they’re not pressing the ball to stop that high-risk game and it’s causing them the problem.
“It’s not a problem with how high the line is, it’s about being compact, being together. But when someone gets time on the ball. So often we say, it’s too easy to get through Liverpool’s midfield. That didn’t happen before, so you could play that high line and be really compact. But if that’s not happening, you have to adapt.”
He added: “It’s embarrassing, it really is. I said before, it’s kids’ stuff and this is the big problem with Liverpool right now. They’ve built their success on intensity on the ball, which means their opposition can’t get their head up to put the ball over. So your team is always tight and always really compact, always a risk, but you’ve got energy on the ball. That energy is not there now. So that back four has to adapt.
“If they keep playing that [high line] they are going to have a big problem, in terms of the Premier League this season and qualifying for the next round of the Champions League.”

Speaking after the 4-1 loss Klopp acknowledged that same issue of a lack of intensity at the start of the press. How could he not? The problems are certainly reflected by the numbers. According to fbref Liverpool are attempting far fewer pressures per 90 minutes this season, from 144 to 117, and succeeding in 43 as opposed to 48. Whilst that naturally means the success rate is higher it is also true that Klopp’s side are forcing five fewer turnovers a game through their on ball pressure. Notably as well they are getting to their opponents later, averaging 10 fewer pressures in the final third. In that, as in so many other facets of their play, Liverpool are missing Sadio Mane.
As Roberto Firmino‘s athleticism dwindled, the Senegal international became the point of the off-ball attack, one that grew to reflect the development in Mane’s own game. This was not the blitz of Klopp’s early years but a more precise and intricate way of applying pressure. It is perhaps no surprise that Luis Diaz, though he does not lack for industry, is a little too easy to get around otherwise. The same is true in midfield where age and injuries appear to be catching up with Fabinho, Thiago and Jordan Henderson. Increasingly their roles are being taken up by players who, like Diaz, lack the familiarity with the old ways. It is as though the orchestra has lost not just its conductor but its first chair violin, its double bass and a few from the woodwind section. It will take time for others to learn those parts and in the meantime there will be a fair few bum notes.
Here is where Carragher and Klopp diverge. The former would propose dropping that Liverpool line back by five yards, giving opponents less space to attack in behind but equally making it easier for them to build play from the back, robbing the Reds of that quick route to goal that has allowed them to score so many in recent years. Klopp’s post match comments appeared to indicate that he instead simply wanted his side to get Plan A right rather than ripping apart a template that has brought so much success to Merseyside in recent years. Of course he also suggested that maybe Liverpool need to “reinvent themselves” but that felt like an idea Klopp was throwing out so as to dismiss, exaggerating for effect.
Carragher and Klopp would probably accept there is no silver bullet for these issues, nothing that will solve them right away. That does not augur well for Ajax’s trip to Anfield.
Chelsea vs. Salzburg: Meet the new boss, not dissimilar to the old boss
It was not quite the “palpable discord” that Michael Emenalo described as the end of Jose Mourinho’s second tenure at Chelsea but there was still a quite forthright assessment of Thomas Tuchel’s management style emerging from Stamford Bridge in t...
