Blockchain Gaming And Metaverse Initiatives Raised $1.3 Billion In Q3 2022 Says Report Outlook India
Blockchain Gaming And Metaverse Initiatives Raised $1.3 Billion In Q3 2022, Says Report – Outlook India https://collincountynewsonline.com/blockchain-gaming-and-metaverse-initiatives-raised-1-3-billion-in-q3-2022-says-report-outlook-india/ Blockchain gaming and metaverse projects raised an astonishing $1.3 billion in Q3 of 2022, the latest BGA Games Report for Q3 2022 by DappRadar reveals. Web 3.0 games, the report says, continues to be a “driving force for the dapp business despite the challenging market conditions”. DappRadar analysed Blockchain activity across 50 networks. It found that in September 2022 alone, about 912,000 daily Unique Active Wallets (UAWs) interacted with the smart contracts of games. According to the report, Hadean, a metaverse company, has built essential metaverse components and struck multi-year partnerships with entertainment, education, and business digital twin service providers. These include, Minecraft, Pixelynx, Sony , and Gamescoin, among others. “This new round of investment will accelerate Hadean’s capacity to equip producers in new and developing metaverse marketplaces with the means to transform every element of how we work, construct, purchase, and consume,” the report says. The two Web 3.0 games, Alien Worlds and Splinterlands, saw over 160,000 daily UAWs in September 2022. The same month, UAWs on the gaming platform Gameta, which was first introduced on Solana, and is now available on the BNB Chain, as well, exceeded one million per day. Similarly, “the Polygon-based Benji Bananas climbed the rankings during the last quarter, attracting over 29,000 daily UAWs in September,” the report adds. The influence of Blockchain games is also discernible in the non-fungible token (NFT) market, where gaming group Gods Unchained cracked the top-5 collections by trading volume in September. Its game assets produced more than $18 million. Moreover, in September 2022, the Blockchain gaming industry increased the average of daily UAW by 8 per cent to 912,000, accounting for 48 per cent of Blockchain activity, a highly positive indicator for this category, according to the report. “The amount of investments demonstrate that despite the challenging and uncertain conditions in the digital asset markets, major investment entities remain bullish on the Blockchain gaming industry,” the report added. The term ‘metaverse’ is frequently used to refer to what many believe will be the next important paradigm in how we use digital technology and networks to communicate, collaborate, and have a variety of virtual experiences. It is not a single technology, equipment, or service offered by a single business. It is the result of the fusion of multiple distinct technologies, all of which are rapidly becoming mature enough for widespread usage.

Collin County Holds Public Ballot Testing Sachse News
Collin County Holds Public Ballot Testing Sachse News
Collin County Holds Public Ballot Testing – Sachse News https://collincountynewsonline.com/collin-county-holds-public-ballot-testing-sachse-news/ Interested residents of Collin County had the opportunity to attend a public demonstration of the ballot counting process and test of voting machines before early voting begins Oct. 24. The testing was conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at the Collin County Elections Department, which is located at 2010 Redbud Blvd., Suite 102. The public test is required by state law and one of three checkpoints for the county, said Elections Administrator Bruce Sherbet, who has been an elections administrator for 34 years — including seven in Collin County. Beside the public test ahead of early voting, county election officials check the equipment is functioning properly after early voting concludes and after all votes are cast in an election as part of the post-election audit. To conduct the test, election officials used vote totals from a past election. Prior to the counting of ballots, Sherbet read a result sheet verifying no ballots had been entered into the machines prior to the logic and accuracy test. Ballots were then fed into the county’s voting machines that are used to tabulate the final results. After all the test ballots were cast, officials conducted a final count in front of representatives for the county’s Republican and Democratic parties and members of the public. In addition to representatives of the two major political parties in the county, members of the public were invited to cast their own test ballots and ask questions. Some residents queried about the involvement of third parties in the election process. Sherbet said the county contracts with Election Systems and Software but the employees are directly overseen by members of the election department. There is also a three-member vote counting team that is responsible for tallying the results. “That’s part of the check and balance system within our elections,” Sherbet said. The county also oversees a number of elections for a multitude of races that will be on the ballot this November, including those for cities and school districts in Collin County. “We have federal, state, county and contractors on this ballot,” Sherbet said. “We’re testing all of their results.” The Oct. 7 demonstration was a required public logic and accuracy test, which is required at least 48 hours prior to the start of voting, said Sherbet. This year, the county added a public parallel test for residents. “We prepare test ballots and test every known vote capability including overvotes, undervotes and provisional,” Sherbet said. “Every single aspect of voting is tested on each piece of equipment being used, including the server in the counting station to verify accuracy.” For the full story, see the Oct. 13 issue of The Sachse News.

Here Is The Latest Big 12 Conference Sports News From The Associated Press – Beckley Register-Herald https://collincountynewsonline.com/here-is-the-latest-big-12-conference-sports-news-from-the-associated-press-beckley-register-herald/ MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — Casey Legg kicked a 22-yard field goal with 33 seconds left to lift West Virginia to a 43-40 victory over Baylor. West Virginia’s Tony Mathis scored on a 34-yard run with 7:05 left and set up the winning field goal with a 37-yard run to the Baylor 8. Mathis finished with a career-high 163 rushing yards Thursday night. Baylor had one last chance starting from its 23-yard line. But backup quarterback Kyron Drones threw two incompletions and he was tackled near midfield on a scramble as time ran out. Drones came on in relief of Blake Shapen, who was injured on a helmet-to-helmet hit in the third quarter and did not return. NEW YORK (AP) — The Big 12 Conference has come back from the brink. Last summer, it was sent reeling when Oklahoma and Texas said they will be leaving for the Southeastern Conference. New Commissioner Brett Yormark is trying to rebuild the Big 12’s brand. He wants to set a new narrative for a league known for years of instability. For now, things are going well: Half of the Big 12’s football teams are ranked the AP Top 25. It has also had a team in the men’s Final Four every year since 2018 — and won the national title two years in a row. NEW YORK (AP) — Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark says he has had “meaningful” conversations with ESPN and Fox as the conference explores striking a media rights deal almost two years before the current contract expires. The Big 12 announced in late August it planned to engage ESPN and Fox, even though the exclusive negotiating window between the conference and the networks does not open until February 2024. The Big 12′s deals with the networks expire in June of that year. Yormark says there is no timetable for the discussions to produce a deal. He says ESPN and Fox would be the two best partners to boost the Big 12 brand. FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Max Duggan has gone from losing his job as TCU’s starting quarterback to being one of the nation’s best passers. He is exceling in coach Sonny Dykes’ system after the new coaching staff initially went with a different starter than the guy who started most of the past three seasons. Duggan has thrown for 1,305 yards and a Big 12-best 14 touchdowns with one interception. Redshirt freshman Chandler Morris started the opener before getting hurt. Dykes says he has been impressed with how Duggan has handled the entire situation. Duggan says he was initially disappointed but never felt sorry for himself. UNDATED (AP) — The Big 12 will be down to one undefeated team after eighth-ranked Oklahoma State plays at No. 13 TCU this weekend. Both teams are 5-0. The winner joins idle No. 17 Kansas State at 3-0 in Big 12 play. No. 22 Texas is home against Iowa State, while Kansas plays at Oklahoma. Baylor and West Virginia meet Thursday night in Morgantown. Texas Tech joins Kansas State having an open date. FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — A lot has changed since TCU’s 46-point loss at Oklahoma State last season. When the teams meet again Saturday, it will be a matchup of the Big 12’s last undefeated teams and the conference’s top two quarterbacks. Both are 5-0 overall. The 13th-ranked Horned Frogs have won six of seven games since that loss in Stillwater that came in the aftermath of coach Gary Patterson’s departure and with quarterback Max Duggan out with a foot injury. Spencer Sanders and the No. 8 Cowboys have won 11 of their last 12 games, the only setback being in the Big 12 title game. NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Kansas has a chance to post one of its best seasons ever and make a run at a spot in the Big 12 title game. The 19th-ranked Jayhawks are coming off a loss to TCU and now play at Oklahoma. The Sooners have lost three straight games. A victory over Kansas would be a first step towards salvaging something from a disappointing season so far for first-year coach Brent Venables. AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — No. 22 Texas doesn’t expect offensive production to come easy against Iowa State this weekend. The Longhorns produced nearly 600 yards while pounding Oklahoma 49-0 last week. The Cyclones are eighth nationally in scoring defense and 11th in total defense. Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers will be playing his second game since returning from a left shoulder injury that sidelined him a month. The Ohio State transfer threw for 289 yards and four touchdowns in three quarters against Oklahoma. Copyright 2022 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. How To Get Better Sleep Manila Bulletin
How To Get Better Sleep Manila Bulletin
How To Get Better Sleep – Manila Bulletin https://collincountynewsonline.com/how-to-get-better-sleep-manila-bulletin/ Everything you need to know to achieve a good night’s rest as discussed in ‘Pillow Talk: and Why Filipinos Need to Survive the Era of Sleeplessness’ Today’s teens are the most sleep-deprived people in the world according to the book Generation Sleepless by Heather Turgeon. In a 2019 Philips Global Sleep Survey, meanwhile, 62 percent of adults worldwide feel they do not sleep well and lose around one to two hours of rest per night.  On top of our already fast-paced lifestyle, the challenges of the times such as the Covid-19 pandemic, the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and the like, are some of the aspects that cause a lack of sleep. In the era of sleeplessness, Filipinos top the charts as revealed by a study conducted by Sleep Cycle this year, where we are ranked fourth overall in people who need rest.  To help remedy the situation, business community Bounce Back Philippines together with wellness company Wellspring Philippines hosted a webinar titled “Pillow Talk: And Why Filipinos Need to Survive the Era of Sleeplessness.” “Considering what we have at the moment [health crisis, war, economic recessions], sleep has become a luxury. You have to earn it,” says Bounce Back Philippines COO Bianca Angeles in her opening remarks. In the New York Times, sleep is considered “…the new status symbol and a measure of success, a skill to be cultivated and nourished.” The keynote speaker of the session was neurologist and sleep specialist, Dr. Debbie Bernardo, whose extensive portfolio on sleep science includes finishing a fellowship in sleep medicine at the National Jewish Health in Denver, Colorado, as well as becoming the head of the Comprehensive Sleep Disorders Center and the neurology section of the Institute of Neurosciences in the Philippines. She is also an esteemed member of leading organizations like the American Academy of Neurology, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and the Society of Behavioral Sleep Medicine. Sharing her “gospel of better sleep and healthier body and mind,” Dr. Debbie discussed essential insights on sleep with the participants of the online event. Screenshot of the webinar “Managing energy, not time, is the key to high performance and personnel renewal,” read Dr. Debbie in her presentation, citing American journalist and author Tony Schwartz, who wrote the book, The Power of Full Engagement. “Because Filipinos are unaware of the repercussions of sleeplessness, we don’t make it a priority in our daily schedules that we need to sleep as much as seven hours per day,” says Dr. Debbie.  ‘You should make your bedroom a sanctuary. It should be clean. Minimize allergens. Provide adjustable lighting. Serene artworks and a calming color palette help.’ “As we grow older we need fewer hours of sleep, but the minimum is still seven hours a night. During school age, children and teenagers need as much as nine to 12 hours per night. There are consequences to chronic insufficient sleep. We are more prone to depression and anxiety. Studies are also now showing that it [sleep deprivation] makes one prone to breast and prostate cancer.” Other problems in the body caused by lack of sleep are the derangement of the immune system, negative impact on the heart and blood pressure, and an increase in propensity to gain weight. Also tackled are the two stages of sleep, the non-REM (Rapid Eye Movement) and the REM.  The latter is the period of dreaming when the body is paralyzed so we do not act out of sleep. REM, also known as active sleep or dream sleep, among others, is the time when the brain sorts out the information we had received the entire day. It is the rest and restoration that the body needs. In 1998, the circadian rhythm was discovered. Scientists saw that proteins inside cells run in feedback loops in almost all organisms. The physiologic and behavioral patterns based on the circadian rhythm tell us we are supposed to be asleep at midnight and that the deepest sleep comes between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. when the body temperature is the lowest. Melatonin secretion starts when the sun goes down, provoked by the onset of darkness, and stops early morning at 8 a.m. A highlight of the talk is the subject “insufficient sleep syndrome,” the shortened sleep below an individual’s usual baseline or amount of sleep needed to maintain optimal performance regularly. One of the factors for inadequate opportunities for sleep these days is Covidsomnia or insomnia caused by the fear of the coronavirus. If the sleep disorder has been in existence for three months or longer, it is considered chronic insomnia. But what causes sleep deprivation? Humans are the only species that voluntarily delay sleep. No other animal could do this. Medical problems could also cause a lack of sleep. “There is no cure for sleeplessness. So how do we cope?” asks Dr. Debbie. There are behavioral changes we could do to improve sleep. “You should make your bedroom a sanctuary. It should be clean. Minimize allergens. Provide adjustable lighting. Serene artworks and a calming color palette help.” Dr. Debbie also points out that the best ambiance for sleeping is extreme quiet with a cool temperature. Avoid using gadgets at night. But if it is unavoidable to do so, use night mode and turn off ambient lighting. Stop using gadgets altogether an hour before your proposed bedtime. “I always tell my patients to stick to a schedule. Establish a regular wake time and get sunlight early in the morning. This synchronizes our brain to the circadian rhythm.” Dr. Debbie emphasizes creating a wake time rather than a sleep time because working hard on trying to sleep will make it more difficult for one to fall asleep. Extending your sleep in the morning is no longer a restful or restorative sleep, so you better set an alarm. You snooze, you lose.Fragmented sleep is bad. Only take naps if needed. The best time for naps is after lunch, between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. as there is a dip in our circadian rhythm at this time. Remember that naps take away from evening sleep. If you want to sleep well at night, do not sleep too late in the afternoon. The advisable amount of nap time is 20 to 30 minutes. Waking up beyond this time gives one a hangover or groggy feeling. Watch what you eat and drink. It is difficult to sleep if you are hungry. But also avoid big meals two to three hours before bedtime. Food or drinks to stay clear of hours before rest are coffee, chocolate, alcohol, peppermint, and fatty food. Try not to drink coffee after 2 p.m. as caffeine blocks adenosine. Try to sleep on your left side if you have acid reflux. Because of gravity, the shape of our stomach, and the angle of the connection between it and the esophagus, sleeping on the left side can greatly reduce reflux. Minimize all fluid intake within two hours of bedtime.  Exercise is very important to improving sleep, especially aerobic exercises. Those who do this will be able to fall asleep faster. Gentle exercises are also helpful. You should, however, avoid exercising two hours before bedtime. Quit smoking. Nicotine is a potent stimulant. Nicotine withdrawal causes sleep disturbances, so you may want to quit slowly instead of doing cold turkey. Take melatonin if you must. “During the pandemic we were concerned about the senior members of the family and the babies and we were also constantly thinking about our businesses so we suffered from bouts of anxiety and sleeplessness,” says the COO of Wellspring Philippines, Casey Ching. This led her and her health and wellness company to bring the Wellspring melatonin gummies to the Philippines. It was Casey and her family who first used the product. Casey saw the FDA-approved melatonin gummy as the solution to sleep problems of “young adults who suffer from anxiety, mommies, and freelancers who have to do the extra hustle to make a living.” The gummies, she noted, are not sleeping pills, but a sort of relaxant. Melatonin is produced by the body and has now been developed and manufactured in vitamin form. It alleviates fatigue and lets one sleep naturally and deeply. “Many people nowadays opt to take gummies because they’re easier to swallow, and taste better,” furthers Casey. Aside from melatonin, Wellspring gummies contain other ingredients with added benefits such as vitamin B6, and Passiflora extract.  Wellspring is the only brand in the market today to have three variants of melatonin gummy products namely, Melatonin Sleep Aid Gummies with passion fruit extract to help relax and promote calm before bedtime, Wellspring Nighttime with Collagen and Hyaluronic acid for better sleep and glowing skin, and Extra Snooze Extra Strength Melatonin with L-theanine and Lemon Balm gummies for an added dose of relaxation for that extra good night’s sleep. Farm Bill, Crypto Priorities For Next Term | News, Sports, Jobs – Timesobserver.com https://collincountynewsonline.com/farm-bill-crypto-priorities-for-next-term-news-sports-jobs-timesobserver-com/ The status of a proposal for the downtown riverfront was part of what brought Congressman Glenn Thompson to Warren on Monday. “I thought it was a great project,” he said of the development that has taken place in the former Loranger building. Thompson said he put an earmark in for $1.5 million in dedicated funding for the downtown riverfront, citing significant local investment in that area. He said he put an earmark in for $1.5 million in dedicated funding for the downtown riverfront, citing significant local investment in that area. “I’m trying to be very discerning with the projects I support,” he said. “(I was) disappointed when it didn’t make the final cut in this year’s appropriation.” Thompson said he is still looking for funding for the project and said that was part of why he was in Warren Monday. “I want to be optimistic anyways,” he said. “Good projects take forever.” Looking ahead to the 118th Congress, the farm bill and cryptocurrency regulations are shaping up as priorities for the next two years. Thompson does have a Democratic challenger in next month’s election but the seat is safely red. Thompson’s closest election was his initial election in 2008 which he carried by 16 points. In 2020, he carried the district by nearly 50 points. As the current ranking Republican member on the House Agriculture Committee, he’s got his eyes set on a potential chairmanship should the Republicans take back the majority in the House. That makes his priorities pretty easy. “For me, obviously the Farm Bill,” he said. According to the Congressional Research Service, that bill spans multiple years and “governs an array of agricultural and food programs. It provides an opportunity for policymakers to comprehensively and periodically address agricultural and food issues.” The bill, per the CRS, typically focuses on “farm commodity program support for a handful of staple commodities– corn, soybeans, wheat, cotton, rice, peanuts, dairy, and sugar.” Thompson said the current iteration is set to expire in Sept. 2023 and called it the “single most important piece of legislation that impacts rural America.” He said there are three options – let it expire which he called “not an option” as it would take farm regulations back to the era of the Dust Bowl; extend the current bill which is just “kicking the can” or institute a new bill which is the “only option.” “We’re way behind,” he stressed. “Under Democratic leadership we have not been doing our due diligence. If given the opportunity to chair, we’ll change that come January. It’s going to be pretty intense.” The other major legislative priority might not sound like an agricultural issue at all – regulations regarding crypto-currency. He explained why that issue is before the Ag Committee – when a crypto-currency is first created, it is traded and overseen by the Securities and Exchange Commission; but once it is traded, it is considered a commodity, which brings it under the auspices of the Department of Agriculture. “There’s an urgency,” he said, “with putting some guidelines, legislative guardrails around crypto-currency.” He’s introduced legislation – the Digital Commodity Exchange Act that, he said, would “do no harm, protect people in the marketplace” while also fostering innovation with the underlying technology. “Blockchain… it will be transformational to our economy,” he said, explaining that countries ranging in size from China to Malta are developing these rules. “The US is way behind,” he said, “but the US is where people want to do business.” The legislation, he said, would still allow state regulation as many states have already done but would implement a national standard. Failing to tackle this issue, he said, could result in the nation losing its “competitive space in the world economy…. Let’s keep it simple and do what we need to do.” His proposal, he said, “is close” and he hopes it is moved out of committee this fall. “(It) hasn’t happened yet,” he said, but the effort is “further along than it has been in the past.” Today’s breaking news and more in your inbox

If you have never voted while overseas before, it is not too late. The process is easy ¬– just follow these steps: 1. Complete a Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) Whether you are a first-time voter or have voted absentee in past elections, we recommend that you complete an FPCA to receive your ballot this fall.  It allows you to register to vote and request absentee ballots for all elections for federal offices (presidential and state primaries, run-off, special, and the November general elections) during the course of the year in which you submit the FPCA.  Local election officials in all U.S. states and territories accept the FPCA. The online voting assistant available at FVAP.gov is an easy way to complete the FPCA.  It will ask you questions specific to your state and tell you if electronic ballot delivery is possible.  No matter which state you vote in, we encourage you to ask your local election officials to deliver your blank ballots to you electronically (by email, internet download, or fax, depending on your state).  Be sure to include your email address to take advantage of electronic delivery.  The online voting assistant will generate a printable FPCA, which you can then print and sign. 2. Submit the Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) a. U.S. Embassy Rome – FPCAs can be dropped off at the American Citizen Services window during regular business hours (0830-1300; 1400-1730) b. U.S. Consulate General Milan – FPCAs can be dropped in the ballot box at the public entrance for access between 0800 and 1700, Monday-Friday. c. U.S. Consulate General Florence – FPCAs can be dropped in the ballot box located at the public entrance between 0800 and 1700, Monday-Friday. d. U.S. Consulate General Naples – FPCAs may be deposited in the ballot box at the public entrance between 0800 and 1700, Monday-Friday. If it’s more convenient for you, you can have a friend or family member drop off your FPCA at the most convenient U.S. Embassy or Consulate General, on your behalf or you can send your FPCA or ballot directly to your local election officials via international mail or professional courier service at your own expense. 3. Receive Your Ballot After submitting your FPCA, most states allow you to confirm online your registration and ballot delivery selection.  States are now required to send out ballots 45 days before an election (September 24) for federal office (President, U.S. Senate, or U.S. House of Representatives) to any overseas U.S. citizen who has completed an FPCA. 4. Return Your Ballot We recommend that if you plan to return your paper ballot to your election officials via the the most convenient U.S. embassy/consulate, please return your ballot to them by October 5 to account for transit times between overseas posts and local voting districts.  If you wish to drop off your ballot, or have a friend or colleague drop it off for you, place it in either a postage-paid envelope or envelope bearing domestic U.S. postage addressed to your local election officials. You can download the postage paid envelope from the FVAP.gov website. Specific Ballot Instructions for Each Embassy/Consulate General: a. U.S. Embassy Rome – Voting materials can be dropped off at the American Citizen Services window during regular business hours (0830-1300; 1400-1730) b. U.S. Consulate General Milan – Voting materials can be dropped in the ballot box at the public entrance for access between 0800 and 1700, Monday-Friday. c. U.S. Consulate General Florence – Voting materials can be dropped in the ballot box located at the public entrance between 0800 and 1700, Monday-Friday. d. U.S. Consulate General Naples – Voting materials may be deposited in the ballot box at the public entrance between 0800 and 1700, Monday-Friday. If there isn’t enough time to receive and send back your ballot before the election, use the Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot (FWAB).It is a backup ballot you can use if you don’t receive your ballot in a timely manner. If your official absentee ballot arrives after sending in the FWAB, fill out and send in the official ballot too. Only one will be counted. After you send in your ballot, you can check if it was received by your election office. Your Vote Counts Many U.S. elections within the past ten years have been decided by a margin of victory of less than 0.1%.  All states are required to count every absentee ballot as long as it is valid and reaches local election officials by the absentee ballot receipt deadline (differs by state). Be an educated voter.  Check out the FVAP page for helpful resources that will aid your research of candidates and issues.   You can also read national and hometown newspapers online, and search the Internet to locate articles and information. NOC Gaming: ‘Gotham Knights’ Could Hit Every Arkham Button? – The Nerds Of Color https://collincountynewsonline.com/noc-gaming-gotham-knights-could-hit-every-arkham-button-the-nerds-of-color/ Gotham Knights, the new open-world Bat-Family RPG (not to be confused with the identically-titled TV show), is almost upon us. The AAA video game from WB Games Montreal releases this Friday, October 21, on PS5, Xbox X/S, and PC. Here’s the latest cinematic trailer, showcasing the somethings-to-prove for the four main playable characters: Batgirl, Robin (Tim Drake), Red Hood, and Nightwing: Depending on who and how you ask, Gotham Knight is a spiritual sequel/cousin/successor of the massively-popular Arkham game trilogy from Rocksteady Studios, and the more direct progeny of WB Montreal’s Arkham Origins. Set in a Gotham City where Batman and Commissioner Gordon have died, it’s up to four members of the Bat-Family to fill his cowl. HOLY SIX REASONS I’M SUPER-LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS GAME, BATFAM! – For those of us let down by the recent cancellation of the Batgirl film, this game will be a welcome scratch of an itch. All four characters were playable in 2015’s Arkham Knight as DLC story missions, and can be played in the various Injustice games, but this is the first AAA game in which one can play them as featured protagonists in the campaign. – We no longer hurt ourselves by trying to hold DC accountable for which Batman universe we are in at any particular minute — let’s just recap, factually: the trilogy of Arkham games, starring Batman, were widely regarded for revitalizing the superhero genre in video games. Gotham Knights does not claim to be part of the “Arkham-verse,” although its premise starts with the same story point as the end of the Arkham trilogy; Batman has passed away, and Gotham City’s future is uncertain. – The studio has promised that 4-player co-op gameplay will be patched into the game shortly after launch, making it ideal for gathering with your three nerd friends and playing as, y’know, ALL THE BAT-PEOPLE. ALL AT ONCE, with the Prince album playing in the background! – There’s been a lot of healthy discussion about Nightwing’s butt. I can’t get into it here. – The fact that Robin’s method of traversal involves the Justice League teleporter implies that the other members of the Justice League are not not in this universe. – The announcement trailer for Gotham Knights premiered in August 2020, during the early peak of the pandemic, a time when immersive video games were of much amplified importance to me (and I’m sure, to many of us). For that sentimental reason, the arrival of the game feels like the fulfilment of a small promise, that little mantra in the back of our 2020 heads: Eventually we’ll get to the other side of this.

Differential Impact Of Quarantine Policies For Recovered COVID-19 Cases In England: A Case Cohort Study Of Surveillance Data, June To December 2020 – BMC Public Health – BMC Public Health https://collincountynewsonline.com/differential-impact-of-quarantine-policies-for-recovered-covid-19-cases-in-england-a-case-cohort-study-of-surveillance-data-june-to-december-2020-bmc-public-health-bmc-public-health/ BMC Public Health volume 22, Article number: 1915 (2022) Cite this article Abstract Background From 12th March 2020, individuals in England were advised to quarantine in their home if a household member tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. A mandatory isolation period of 10 days was introduced on 28th September 2020 and applied to all individuals with COVID-19. We assessed the frequency, timing, and characteristics of recovered COVID-19 cases requiring subsequent quarantine episodes due to household re-exposure. Methods In this case cohort study, all laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases notified in England (29th June to 28th December 2020) were analysed to identify consecutive household case(s). Multivariable logistic regression was used to determine associations between case characteristics and need to quarantine following recent infection (within 28 days of diagnosis). Results Among 1,651,550 cases resident in private dwellings and Houses of Multiple Occupancy (HMOs), 744,548 (45.1%) were the only case in their home and 56,179 (3.4%) were succeeded by further household cases diagnosed within 11–28 days of their diagnosis. Of 1,641,412 cases arising in private homes, the likelihood of further household cases was highest for Bangladeshi (aOR = 2.20, 95% CI = 2.10–2.31) and Pakistani (aOR = 2.15, 95% CI = 2.08–2.22) individuals compared to White British, as well as among young people (17-24y vs. 25-64y; aOR = 1.19, 95% CI = 1.16–1.22), men (vs. women; aOR = 1.06, 95% CI = 1.04–1.08), London residents (vs. Yorkshire and Humber; aOR = 1.57, 95% CI = 1.52–1.63) and areas of high deprivation (IMD 1 vs. 10; aOR = 1.13, 95% CI = 1.09–1.19). Conclusion Policies requiring quarantine on re-exposure differentially impact some of the most disadvantaged populations. Quarantine exemption for recently recovered individuals could mitigate the socioeconomic impact of responses to COVID-19 or similar infectious disease outbreaks. Peer Review reports Introduction On 12th March 2020, the UK government published quarantine guidance for individuals exposed to SARS-CoV-2 [1]. Quarantine refers to the separation of presently healthy contacts of infected individuals, whereas isolation is the separation of infected individuals, otherwise referred to as cases [2]. Close contacts, including all household members, were subject to quarantine to minimise the risk of onwards viral transmission. The self-isolation (cases) and quarantine (contacts) periods in the UK were changed from 7 to 14 days following the cases’ symptom onset or positive specimen date to 10 days in July and December 2020, respectively [1,2,3]. This policy applied to the entire population, including those with recent history of COVID-19, and remained in place until 16th August 2021 [4]. By this point, over 40 million UK residents had received at least two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine [5]. With vaccination shown to substantially reduce the risk of transmission [6], infection and severe outcomes [7] with SARS-CoV-2, quarantine was no longer deemed necessary for double vaccinated contacts. Select individuals, such as those aged under 18 years and six months, were also exempted from quarantine from August 2021 [4]. Studies have demonstrated that transmission of SARS-CoV-2 most commonly occurs within a residential environment and between known contacts [8, 9]. The requirement for a recently recovered individual to quarantine would therefore be most commonly triggered by the occurrence of secondary household cases. Given the likely short-term natural immunity acquired from infection [10], this quarantine period could be considered unnecessary, although concern would remain regarding potential re-exposure to a different strain from household members. Genetic discordance between SARS-CoV-2 infections among relatives and friends is uncommon if acquired within days of each other [11], thus questioning the need for the policy. Germany [12], Norway [13] and Cyprus [14] were among several countries to adopt quarantine exemptions on the basis of a “recovered” status, typically for individuals recovered from COVID-19 in the last six months. The emergence of novel COVID-19 variants will necessitate a review of such policies to assess if exemption on the basis of natural infection alone is appropriate; 9.5% of Omicron cases in the UK were detected among individuals with previous infection (≥ 90 days prior) as of 19 December 2021 compared to  1.0% prior to the Omicron epidemic [15, 16]. Although isolation of an individual infected with SARS-CoV-2 and quarantine of their close contacts is essential to curtailing further transmission, domestic confinement can impact on the financial and broader wellbeing of the individual and society. A survey of 6,041 people in Canada identified that individuals who had to self-isolate or quarantine were significantly more likely to present with moderate to high stress, anxiety, and depressive symptomology compared to those who did not [17]. Moreover, 42.7% of 150 respondents living in London reported that they did not adhere to quarantine guidance, commonly because they required food provisions and lacked community support [2]. For some, the effects of social isolation may consequently be of greater concern than the prospect of transmitting SARS-CoV-2 onwards. A 90-day period is widely used as the cut-off to define re-infection with SARS-CoV-2 on the basis of an assumed short-term period of immunity following initial infection [10]. However, while rare, re-infection has been observed within a period as short as three weeks [18]. Assuming a conservative natural immunity window of 28 days following infection with SARS-CoV-2, the number of avoidable instances of quarantine were a 28-day exemption policy to be retrospectively applied becomes measurable. Methods Study aim and design In this case cohort study, we quantify the number of individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 who were succeeded beyond their own isolation period by further case(s) within the same household within 28 days of their diagnosis and characterise such individuals. In doing so, we assess the differential impact of quarantine policy. Participants and data sources Data on laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases in England notified to Public Health England, as per statutory obligation, through national surveillance infrastructure for the period 29th June to 28th December 2020 were extracted [19]. Residential address data as reported at the time of testing, or National Health Service (NHS) summary care records if unavailable, were matched to Ordnance Survey reference databases to identify property type [20, 21]. Analyses were restricted to cases resident in private dwellings (Basic Land and Property Unit codes: RD, RD01-04, RD06-08, RD10, RH01-03, PP) and registered Houses of Multiple Occupancy (HMOs) (RH, RH01-03). Outcome variables Singular cases were those where no further cases were identified at the same Unique Property Reference Number (UPRN), a unique identifier for each property in the UK [20], at the time of data extraction, 24th June 2021. Intervals between consecutive household cases were determined based on earliest positive specimen dates for each case. Individuals who had completed their isolation period following infection with SARS-CoV-2 were required to quarantine if they were re-exposed to a subsequent household case  10 days after their own earliest positive specimen date. Explanatory variables Associations between age, sex, ethnicity, region (Public Health England centre) and Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) decile with quarantine were assessed as these have been previously demonstrated to influence risk of infection and severe outcomes due to COVID-19 [22]. Further, as the aim of this study was to assess the differential impact of quarantine policy, the inclusion of these variables in statistical analyses enabled us to measure social inequities associated with quarantine. Age and sex were considered a priori confounders. Time period and housing type were also assessed as explanatory variables due to a priori hypotheses that likelihood of quarantine would vary according to the community incidence of COVID-19, circulating SARS-CoV-2 variants and the home environment, such as household composition and the ability to social distance. Statistical analysis Univariable and multivariable logistic regression were used to model odds of further need to quarantine within 11–28 days, a period in which re-exposure would potentially be to the same SARS-CoV-2 strain, with likelihood ratio test used to assess significance of explanatory variables and goodness of fit. Variables associated with quarantine in univariable analyses were added to the multivariable model using a forward selection strategy and retained if model fit improved. Analyses were stratified by property type (private residential dwelling and HMO) to allow for potential differences in household composition; HMOs are typically rented by unrelated individuals, whereas those inhabiting private residential dwellings are more likely to be from the same family [23]. Analyses were restricted to cases occurring from 29th June to 28th December 2020, a period where community testing was widely available, the second epidemic wave was underway and the COVID-19 vaccination programme had yet to be rolled out. Time period was segmented according to the different phases of national restrictions [24]. Age was categorised according to life-course events, as previously described [25]. Ethnicity was categorised into White, A...

Mountains Of Good Spirit | News, Sports, Jobs – Parkersburg News https://collincountynewsonline.com/mountains-of-good-spirit-news-sports-jobs-parkersburg-news/ I got to take a vacation recently — a few times zones away, to a place where the pools are still open. It was nice, though it seems I missed a few good leaf-peeping days. But during the trip, our group of traveling friends stopped at a pool party hosted by someone we knew from our days at West Virginia University. We weren’t the only guests there, of course, but we might have been the most enthusiastic about jumping into water that was already deemed too cold by the locals. (It’s a funny thing to look around and realize ‘Whoops, only West Virginians still in the pool.’ Everyone else is out, wrapped up and huddled around the fire pit.) Once we dried off, one of our hosts was talking to a co-worker about the set of patio furniture that was pushed off to the side, and they came to an agreement. Then the receiver of the furniture said “OK, how am I going to get this all into my RAV4?” Without discussion or hesitation, each of the Mountain State residents walked over, picked up a piece of furniture and then walked out to the driveway, where we used our expertise to fit an entire patio set — cushions and all — into her vehicle. She watched us open-mouthed and then said, with genuine curiosity “Why are you helping me?” It struck me as such an odd question. Why wouldn’t we help? Then I looked around and realized, no one else had volunteered. No one else had even come out to the driveway to offer moral support. In fact, when we walked back around the corner, one of the guests was guiltily folding towels and placing them neatly on a ledge, declaring “I’m helping!” But the receiver of the furniture again turned to us and said “seriously, why did you help me? Thank you.” One of our crew sheepishly scuffed his feet and said “it’s what we do.” Yes, I thought. There it is. It’s just part of who we are; and I was raised believing that was part of what people knew about West Virginians. We help. We figure it out. In fact, it seems, our helpful nature and ingenuity were quite a surprise. What people think they know of us these days is dramatically different from what we here in the state tend to think of ourselves. Particularly farther away from West Virginia (again, this particular interaction was happening in the Pacific time zone) many people form their opinions of us based on our more attention-getting elected officials, what they read of us in the news, and the impression they get from those who claim to represent the Mountain State on social media. Blech. We can’t all travel to meet people in person and change minds, but we can start to work toward changing those who are creating a false impression of West Virginia on our behalf. We were brought up to be the kinds of people who can figure out how to get an entire patio set crammed into the back of a RAV4, for goodness sake. Surely we can figure this one out, too. *** And because I know the people who live in this valley are the kinds of people who help, I’m looking forward to seeing some of you this weekend at the Chick Crites Annual Veterans Food Drive, here at the News and Sentinel parking lot, starting at 8 a.m. Saturday. Donations of non-perishable foods and hygiene items will benefit the Old Man Rivers and Disabled American Veterans Wood County Chapter 32 food pantries. As the population of seniors has been steadily growing, the demand for senior living housing will continue to rise. And pioneers like us will scale up, says Ankur Gupta, JMD, Ashiana Housing. In an exclusive interview with Sanjeev Sinha, Mr Gupta shares his views on changing homebuyer preferences in post-pandemic times, growth expectations for senior living projects, and what prompted them to foray into kid-centric homes. Excerpts: Real estate, particularly the housing segment, is said to be doing well post the pandemic. Do you think the festive season will give the sector a further push? The festive season is a good time to buy or invest in the housing segment. We are witnessing satisfying growth in terms of business and festive seasons are adding into it. As mentioned, this festive season will likely bring cheers to millions as it comes after the two-year pandemic. Having the July-Sept period already witnessing stupendous growth, the upcoming quarters will continue to perform. The current inflation could be a worry for many. Despite the inflationary pressure, the current interest rate regime favors homebuyers, as the levels are still lower as compared to the peaks that we witnessed during the pre-pandemic levels. Hence, prospective homebuyers should enter the market and buy. With affordability remaining high, employment numbers are strong again favoring a buying phase. Has there been any impact of the pandemic on senior living housing? How is this segment doing currently & what is the future outlook? The pandemic has impacted all the sectors of economy, but post pandemic things changed to a great extent and interestingly, the demand for senior living housing has increased. As per a recent report by National Statistical Office (NSO)’s Elderly in India 2021, India’s elderly population (aged 60 and above) is projected to touch 194 million in 2031 from 138 million in 2021, a 41% increase over a decade. As the population of seniors has been steadily growing, the demand for senior living housing will continue to rise. And pioneers like us will scale up. The types of services and amenities on offer in these projects will continue to evolve as the industry will grow. We observe that metros cities are already witnessing a surge in such projects. However, in the longer run, suburbs and tier-II cities will also see healthy supply. Some of the tier-II cities include Bhiwadi, Coimbatore, Puducherry, Vadodara, Bhopal, Jaipur, Mysuru, Dehradun and Kasauli, among others. Metros where we have seen the supply are Chennai, Pune (Lavasa) and Bengaluru. We expect that over the next 4-5 years, the demand for senior living projects will increase multi-fold in non-metro cities. There are reasons behind this: Attractive financing options available, availability of land and plenty of space to build sprawling complexes have made these cities more attractive. And seniors love these open spaces. Although growth rates vary by region, there is a growing trend that a majority of seniors would prefer living in cities with low population densities. The trend of seniors moving into cities with low population densities is also contributing to this growth. It creates opportunities for developers to create new projects in these markets, where there is less competition. Medium to long-term market predictions suggest that as compared to metros, many more senior living communities would come up in these markets. What sets Ashiana Housing apart from other senior living facilities? What is your USP? Ashiana Housing is a pioneer in Senior Living Homes in the country, offering top-class facilities. We currently serve more than 1800 happy seniors across our three projects, in which we take care of everything for our residents – from an active and healthy lifestyle to healthy vegetarian meals, an active routine, and regular health check-ups. We’ve recently launched our most premium Senior Living Home yet – Ashiana Advik, with innovative and first-in-class ‘Active scapes’. Advik comes with spacious apartments as well as independent villas. With Advik, we aim to further revolutionize Senior Living in India. Advik is spread over 16.9 acres of lush green spaces and brings in new and innovative Active scapes which are designed to keep senior citizens active at all times. Retirement Life with Ashiana Senior Living is a whole different experience that you can’t get anywhere else. Our primarily focus is on providing ample facilities to our senior citizen residents. The facilities include taking care of one’s mental agility attained by befriending books in the library, having lively conversations with like-minded people or by attending classes for cooking, dancing, arts and more, keeping at bay the everyday worries and strife. All our Senior Living Homes are well laid out and well designed. Our locations are such that there is little to no pollution and a breath of fresh air always awaits our residents. We take care of everything from residents’ activity, routine, and social life to safety, security, and health. Ashiana Senior Living Homes give senior citizens a sense of independence while at the same time not compromising on their security. All our SLHs come with age-friendly design and amenities like – skid-resistant tiles, chamfered wall edges, grabrails in the bathroom, Night Lamp in the master bedroom, switches with LED indicators, flats fitted with Emergency Response System, wheelchair-accessible campus and flats, 24×7 ambulance, on-call doctors, pharmacy and utility stores, etc. What prompted Ashiana Housing to foray into kid-centric homes? Why is this concept gaining popularity in India? What are your future plans for this segment? With the increasing urbanization and growing nuclear families with working parents, there is a need for a space that provides safety and security to the children while parents are away to work and at the same time, exposes kids to several sports and co-curricular activities. At Ashiana we worked towards the need of the hour which has given rise to a new reality trend, i.e., kid-centric homes. Typically, a kid-centric home is a gated community which provides all the facilities that are needed for children’s development and their all-round growth. Ashiana kid-centric homes are a finest example of BehtarParvarishKaPata. The facilities provided here are made keeping in mind to nurture and empower children for their successful future. A special learning hub is provided here, where children develop multifaceted personalities. With the inclusion of world-class facilities to address core necessities related not just to proper infrastructure but other pivotal areas such as learning and talent enhancement, inculcating important moral values and learning to share with their fellow beings in addition to others, the kid-centric homes are designed to nurture the crucial years of a kid’s life. Our newest kid-centric homes project is Ashiana Amarah at sector-93, Gurugram. Amarah is spread over an area of 22 acres, of which 6.7 acres are lush green exteriors. The project is full of innovative and luxurious amenities for kids centered around four key elements i.e. Learning, Nurturing, Support & Care. Our all kid-centric projects are perfect blend of learning, growth, fun, and overall development altogether with kid-centric amenities. At Ashiana, we are known for providing a holistic fun, and nurturing environment to the growing kids which will ultimately lead them into becoming multi-faceted personalities and responsible citizens of tomorrow. What are you currently doing in view of the changing preferences of homebuyers and what are your future plans? Do you have any plans to foray into new cities as well? The pandemic has induced home buyers to reassess their preferences and this is driving some fascinating changes in their attitudes. Now, buyers are looking for a house which provides them with different types of facilities, amenities and enough space for working. At Ashiana Housing, we work towards different aspects i.e. well-designed concept home, lush green environment, vast open areas with fresh breeze. Our goal is to provide buyers a safe haven at a prime location. In terms of expansion, we have recently launched two new projects – in senior living we have launched Ashiana Advik with over 900 residential units, including 37 villas, at Bhiwadi & in kid-centric homes we have launched Ashiana Amarah in Gurugram, in which in phase one 224 units got sold off on the first day of launch. In the future, Ashiana intends to grow in the cities where we are already present, such as Pune, Chennai, Bhiwadi, and Gurgaon.

Orchids And Onions | News, Sports, Jobs – Warren Tribune Chronicle https://collincountynewsonline.com/orchids-and-onions-news-sports-jobs-warren-tribune-chronicle/ ORCHID: To Niles Middle School and its students who competed over the last two weeks to bring in the most items for the Dragon Pantry and win an ice cream party. Students there ended up collecting 739 pantry items of nonperishable food, clothes, hygiene products, blankets and school supplies. Intervention specialist Mary Wike’s students organized and maintains the pantry. Bravo for the generosity and wonderful support. ONION: To Trumbull County Commissioner Niki Frenchko for walking out of a public meeting during public comments this week while a constituent and potential college intern was reading a letter critical of Frenchko’s handling of the internship issue. Whether or not Frenchko agrees with public comments, she should be respectful enough to hear them out. Frenchko frequently seems to forget she is an elected public servant. It’s not the other way around. ORCHID: To students and their advisers, along with sponsors for local FIRST Robotics teams. Students already are gearing up for the upcoming competition season that starts in January. Robotics is an incredible activity that teaches area youth about engineering, mathematics and other STEM skills, not to mention teamwork and problem solving skills that, undeniably, will be carried into their future careers and throughout their lives. Many local Trumbull and Mahoning County teams competed last weekend in an off-season practice competition — a “scrimmage” of sorts — in preparation for the upcoming season. ONION: To scam artists who seem to find ways to take advantage of unsuspecting victims at every opportunity. We wrote last week about scam artists taking advantage of the generosity of donors to the Florida hurricane relief efforts. Then, this week, we wrote about scam artists who will target seniors during this Medicare open enrollment period. Seniors must remember that Medicare will never call you. If someone calls requesting your Medicare number or Social Security information, just hang up. ORCHID: To the Warren Family Mission for its annual generous efforts to keep those in need warm as cold weather approaches. The mission was hosting its annual winter giveaway this week, with coats, hats, gloves, scarves and blankets. We are grateful for their caring and conscientious efforts and for the generous donors who gave these needed items for distribution. editorial@tribtoday.com Today’s breaking news and more in your inbox

Axie Infinity, the world’s biggest metaverse NFT game based on the market cap of its native token $AXS allows players to build structures and communities. Based on Everyrealm’s description of Hometopia, the game allows users to build ideal homes, not just structures created to boost gaming experiences. “Hometopia will capture those looking for a more realistic home design and world creation game as they age out of the homebuilding games they loved as a kid. Hometopia stands to become this generation’s The Sims, one of the best-selling PC games of all time, which sold more than 11 million copies generating more than $5 billion in revenue,” says Alex Ahlund, founder and developer of Hometopia. The games gaming concept is closer to popular Roblox-based home design games Bloxburg— with over 5 billion visits and 11 million likes since 2015, and Brookhaven— which regularly clocks 450,000+ concurrent users. Janine Yorio, CEO of Everyrealm, said, “As a gamified combination of Pinterest, Houzz and Wayfair, Hometopia is poised to capture those looking for more adult-versions of Roblox interior design games they grew to love as children, and will particularly appeal to a female demographic that has been overlooked by most metaverse gaming projects but which represents a disproportionate amount of spending power.”  EveryRealm is one of the largest metaverse real estate holders on Decentraland, Axie Infinity and The Sandbox. Crypto Hackers Gross Over $3 Billion From 125 Hacks So Far This Year – Featured Bitcoin News – Bitcoin News https://collincountynewsonline.com/crypto-hackers-gross-over-3-billion-from-125-hacks-so-far-this-year-featured-bitcoin-news-bitcoin-news/ Data from blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis shows that October is “the biggest month in the biggest year ever for hacking activity.” The firm added that crypto hackers have grossed over $3 billion across 125 hacks so far this year. Crypto-Hacking Activity Soars in October Chainalysis shared some crypto-related hacking statistics Wednesday. The blockchain data analytics firm explained that back in 2019, most hacks targeted centralized exchanges. However, a vast majority of targets are now decentralized finance (defi) protocols. Chainalysis wrote: After four hacks yesterday, October is now the biggest month in the biggest year ever for hacking activity … So far this month, $718 million has been stolen from defi protocols across 11 different hacks. Total value hacked and number of hacks by month. Source: Chainalysis The four hacks that took place on Tuesday involved Rabby wallet, QANPlatform, Temple DAO, and Mango Markets. The biggest exploit of the four was the Solana-based defi protocol Mango Markets hack which saw about $115 million stolen. “Cross-chain bridges remain a major target for hackers, with 3 bridges breached this month and nearly $600 million stolen, accounting for 82% of losses this month and 64% of losses all year,” Chainalysis detailed, elaborating: At this rate, 2022 will likely surpass 2021 as the biggest year for hacking on record. So far, hackers have grossed over $3 billion dollars across 125 hacks. What do you think about the findings by Chainalysis? Let us know in the comments section below. ExpressBasics: How To Save YouTube Videos Offline To Watch Later – The Indian Express https://collincountynewsonline.com/expressbasics-how-to-save-youtube-videos-offline-to-watch-later-the-indian-express/ YouTube has a neat feature that lets Premium members save a video to their phones storage to be watched later. This is useful for when you have access to data/WiFi for a limited amount of time before you drive through a region with a patchy network or catch a flight. Saving a YouTube Video offline helps in such scenarios as even when there is no connectivity, you will still be able to go back and watch the saved videos. This even works when your phone is in Airplane Mode. Users can also choose what picture quality they want to save videos in, allowing them finer control over how much storage space is occupied and how much data is used. How to save videos offline To begin, you will need an Android or iOS-based smartphone with an active YouTube Premium subscription. The saving videos offline feature is a part of the subscription, and will not work without it. Go to the YouTube app and open a video that you want to save offline. Look for the Menu button below the video where you will find a number of options. Look for the ‘Download video’ option here. Alternatively, you can also find this option straight from YouTube’s search results by clicking on the three-dot menu next to the video title. Once you click on the ‘Download video’ option, you may run into a few settings asking you to choose a quality – usually from Low (144p) to Full HD (1080p). There will also be an option to remember your settings so you don’t have to choose this every time. Resolution for downloads can however, later be changed in the settings. When you’ve chosen your settings, click on the blue coloured ‘Download’ button on the bottom to proceed and begin downloading your video. This video is now saved offline in your phone’s storage. How to access offline videos When you next open the YouTube app with no WiFi or Mobile Data connectivity, you will automatically be in the app’s offline mode, where you won’t be able to search for new videos but will be able to access all the offline ones you have saved. You can then simply click on any of the offline videos to watch them. Note that not all videos support offline saving. If you come across a video that doesn’t show a download button despite you having a YouTube Premium subscription, the video simply may not support offline viewing. Also note that videos saved offline via the YouTube app are not encoded in popular media formats like MP4, and as a result, can only be accessed by and played on the YouTube app.

Aruze Gaming Debuts Rock, Paper, Scissors Slot Machine At G2E – Casino.Org News https://collincountynewsonline.com/aruze-gaming-debuts-rock-paper-scissors-slot-machine-at-g2e-casino-org-news/ Posted on: October 15, 2022, 12:08h.  Last updated on: October 14, 2022, 06:55h. Aruze Gaming unveiled its latest slot machine at this week’s Global Gaming Expo (G2E) in Las Vegas. And the innovative terminal is based on a hand game said to have originated in China thousands of years ago. Aruze Gaming shows off its newest slot offering. The gaming manufacturer debuted “Rock Paper Scissors Instant Win” at the 2022 Global Gaming Expo. (Image: Aruze Gaming/Casino.org) Aruze Gaming, a Japanese-based gaming manufacturer with its US office in Las Vegas, debuted “Rock Paper Scissors Instant Win” for its “Muso Curve 55HB” slot cabinet. Aruze released the new game on the final day of the 2022 G2E. Rock Paper Scissors Instant Win brings a school-yard pastime to the casino floor. Based on the hand game, which is also called Rochambeau, the slot game challenges players to correctly guess whether the machine will display “rock,” “paper,” or “scissors” on the next play. Who would have thought that a game as simple as rock, paper, scissors could be turned into a high-energy, rewarding game that people want to play over and over again. It’s the perfect addition to our suite of games,” said Lesley Hodges, Aruze’s senior director of marketing. With each win, Aruze says Rock Paper Scissors players receive a prize. Ties go in the player’s favor by allowing another round at no cost. Prize values also go up with each tie. RPS Shoot The world’s leading casino operators and gaming manufacturers did their best to “wow” G2E attendees, which was the convention’s largest gathering since 2019. Along with its rock, paper, scissors game, Aruze unveiled a new craps game this past week. Aruze’s RPS product leverages a game that is familiar around much of the world. Rock, paper, scissors is said to trace its origins back to China’s Han dynasty around 206 BCE (Before Common Era). The game quickly spread throughout Asia and became popular in Japan, where it became known as “Sansukumi-ken” — or “fist games.” It was many years later that rock, paper, scissors made its way to the US. One of the game’s earliest references stateside came in a 1932 article in The New York Times describing how the popular game in Asia is played. Since then, RPS in the US has predominantly served as a tie-breaker. Two players count aloud “rock, paper, scissors” or “one, two, three” and then simultaneously say “shoot” or “go.” Each player throws either rock, paper, or scissors. There are four potential outcomes: rock beats scissors, paper beats rock, and scissors beats paper. The other potential outcome is a tie. Game of Skill, Not Only Luck While some believe the rock, paper, scissors game has equal odds not unlike the flip of a coin, psychologists say there is indeed a strategy to the game when it’s played face-to-face. Psychologists involved in a 2014 study published by Cornell University found that players can obtain an advantage in RPS when playing head-to-head. Researchers found that players should expect repetition from their opponent in that the person opposite will want to throw the same weapon in consecutive plays. The study also found that when a player loses, they more often change their weapon on the following play. RPS newcomers or infrequent players also tend to throw rock more than paper and scissors. Unfortunately for future RPS slot machine players, it will be difficult if not impossible to gain an upper hand on the terminal, as the device uses a random number generator — aka computer — to select its weapon each play.

They’re also wanting to be inclusive of the families of the victims,” said attorney Scott J. Becker. COLLIN COUNTY, Texas — The Collin County District Attorney’s Office has some difficult decisions to make about whether to pursue a case against Billy Chermirmir.  Chemirmir, 49, was convicted a second time in a Dallas County court and sentenced to life in prison without parole. But investigators know Chemirmir, who is accused in the deaths of 22 elderly citizens, has victims in Collin County. And it has many wondering whether the D.A. will seek the worst punishment: the death penalty. “Amongst themselves they’re having a vigorous debate. They’re also wanting to be inclusive of the families of the victims,” said attorney and former Collin County judge Scott J. Becker with law firm McCathern, Shokouhi, Evans, and Grinke.  Becker is not connected to this case and is only providing his legal expertise on the matter. He said death penalty cases are very different from capital murder cases where life in prison is the maximum punishment. “The jury selection process alone would be anywhere from four to six weeks just to select the jurors,” said Becker. Becker said while the underlying burden of proof for murder is the same,  death penalty cases come with added elements. More lawyers are appointed in these cases. There are longer appeals, which can last up to 10 to 20 years.  Also, death penalty cases require exhaustive investigations that, he said, may even require overseas travel as Chemirmir is not originally from the United States.  “If they want to seek the death penalty that significantly increases the cost to the taxpayer,” said Becker. The last time Collin County prosecutors sought the death penalty was for 28-year-old Brandon McCall, who was convicted of capital murder in the shooting of Richardson Officer David Sherrard.  The Collin County DA’s Office does not have any comment at this time.

Kremlin Invites Residents In Occupied Kherson To Take Vacation In Russia Newsweek

Kremlin Invites Residents In Occupied Kherson To Take ‘Vacation’ In Russia – Newsweek https://collincountynewsonline.com/kremlin-invites-residents-in-occupied-kherson-to-take-vacation-in-russia-newsweek/ The Kremlin-backed administration of Ukraine’s Russian-occupied Kherson region is offering residents “vacation” to Russia amid the lingering war and concerns over efforts to “Russify” Ukrainians. The Russian-recognized regional administration of Kherson announced in a Telegram post last week that it has set up a hotline for “children and their parents, as well as everyone who wants” to take a holiday. Located in southern Ukraine, Kherson has seen intense fighting as Ukrainian forces seek to push out the Russian military. The hotline implementation followed reports of Russia forcibly migrating Ukrainians from occupied territories. Volodymyr Saldo, the former Kherson mayor who the Kremlin has installed as head of the occupied region, told the Russian state-run news agency TASS on Friday that most residents were staying put despite having the option to leave the region’s daily rocket fire. He said only about 350 residents had asked for help leaving. A car without wheels, which was carjacked by Russians soldiers, stands on bricks in front of the destroyed Village Council on September 27, 2022, in Vysokopillia, Ukraine. Russian-backed authorities in the Kherson region are offering vacations to residents wanting a break from the war. Yurii Tynnyi/Getty Images Saldo said on Thursday in a Telegram post that he was organizing for residents to travel to Russia “for recreation and study,” or to “protect themselves from the consequences of missile strikes.” The post acknowledged that the region continued to be contested despite Russian President Vladimir Putin saying in September that Kherson was among four regions of Ukraine that had voted to join Russia, a notion that was rejected in a lopsided United Nations General Assembly vote. Kirill Stremousov, Saldo’s deputy, earlier on Telegram downplayed Kherson residents leaving the region, saying it didn’t amount to an evacuation. But on Friday, Stremousov took a different tone, encouraging residents to remain calm and take “a humanitarian trip to rest and [recuperate] in the Russian Federation.” “It’s no secret that the shelling of the Kherson region is dangerous primarily for the civilian population,” he said in the post Friday. Since Putin launched Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February, international monitors and Ukrainian officials reported that Ukrainian citizens caught in occupied areas have been forced to relocate to Russia, which the Kremlin has denied. The Institute for the Study of War (ISW), a U.S.-based think tank, has previously published research on the Kremlin’s efforts to strip Ukrainians of their cultural identity. “Russian authorities are continuing to engage in “Russification” social programming schemes that target Ukrainian children,” the think tank on Friday found in its research. The ISW cited reports from local media and Ukrainian officials that Russia was deporting children, some orphans, from occupied regions. The deportations have been described by Russian officials as “children’s trips” and “further education” programs, according to the the group’s research. Teenagers in the Russian-occupied city of Mariupol are also being pressured to join an anti-Ukrainian “Youth Guard” paramilitary group, the ISW added. Newsweek has reached out to the Ukrainian Ministry of Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories for comment.

Todays Wordle #483 Answer Hint And Clues For Saturday October 15th Forbes
Todays Wordle #483 Answer Hint And Clues For Saturday October 15th Forbes
Today’s Wordle #483 Answer, Hint And Clues For Saturday, October 15th – Forbes https://collincountynewsonline.com/todays-wordle-483-answer-hint-and-clues-for-saturday-october-15th-forbes/ In Pictures via Getty Images The weekend has landed, and we’re already halfway through October—which is puzzling. I swear I was just typing a Wordle post on the first day of the month. And wasn’t that month September? And wasn’t I supposed to be in better shape by now and 30 lbs lighter? All my resolutions seem to turn to dust. Well, okay, not all of them. But the whole weight-loss thing? That’s hard. I love food. Last night I made really delicious chicken and dumplings. I’d never made them before and they turned out absolutely scrumptious! But I didn’t really exercise restraint in the butter department, and while I didn’t go for seconds, it’s not like I had a small bowl either. Ah well, so it goes. In any case, the time is flying and I’m only getting older. But one of these days I’m going to get serious about this whole healthy living thing because I would like to extend my life on this planet a few more decades if possible. On that merry note, our Wordle awaits! Today’s Wordle Solution (Spoilers!) The Hint: When someone is considered highly desirable as a potential mate they’re a real _____. The Clue: There’s but a single vowel in this word. The Answer: Credit: Erik Kain This went quite well for me, if I do say so myself. Caper isn’t just a fun word, it ended up being a really good word for today’s Wordle narrowing my choices down to just 18! My second word was just as good, with tough knocking that 18 down to just 1. That villain Wordle Bot nevertheless had the sheer audacity to tell me: “While your guess cut the number of remaining words to one, there were some other choices that could have been better: guessing BLIND her, for example, will usually eliminate more words than TOUGH.” Gah! I narrowed it down to 1! The only word better in this situation would have been the answer, which I got on the very next guess: catch. As in, that handsome Wordle guide writer is quite the catch! Too bad he’s done given up on romance and turned into a jaded hermit, furiously typing away at his computer all day, living a life of solitude. Alas! Alack! Be well, dear Wordlers. Enjoy your weekend. Follow me on Twitter. Check out my website.

More Screen, More Utility: The IPhone 14 Plus’ Appeal – Malay Mail https://collincountynewsonline.com/more-screen-more-utility-the-iphone-14-plus-appeal-malay-mail/ The iPhone 14 Plus might just be the better iPhone you didn’t know you wanted. — Picture by Erna Mahyuni Follow us on Instagram, subscribe to our Telegram channel and browser alerts for the latest news you need to know. By Erna Mahyuni Saturday, 15 Oct 2022 11:25 AM MYT KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 — The interesting thing about the iPhone mini’s brief existence is it demonstrated that sometimes customers don’t actually know what they want. “We want a small phone”, cried some very vocal users. Yet from sales figures it seems that most people wanted or were just really used to larger phones. Now is the iPhone 14 Plus the phone some people didn’t realise they wanted all this time? Larger phone, lighter feel It would be easy to just say the iPhone 14 Plus is a super-sized iPhone 14. There’s the same processor, an A15 that you saw on the iPhone 13 Pro models as well. Yet everything about it is bigger ― the 6.7-inch OLED display with its sharp 2778×1284 pixel resolution at 458 ppi is a big reason behind its price. It’s one of the biggest (yes) reasons to get the model as the only other large-display iPhone is the very powerful and very expensive iPhone 14 Pro Max. Sure, it doesn’t have the fancy Dynamic Island, variable refresh rate and ProMotion but unless you’ve actually used the iPhone 14 Pro before, it doesn’t feel like a big downgrade. What might also be appealing is the mere 203g of weight. Considering there’s nothing cheap-feeling about the phone’s construction, it makes for a pleasant hand feel and speaking from experience, heavy phones can feel like lead weights when using them for longer periods of time. Speaking of longer times, the iPhone 14 Plus manages to eke slightly longer times that the 14 Pro Max for ordinary usage. While I could stretch the 14 Pro Max to about 30 per cent by the end of the day, the iPhone 14 Plus would only reach the 30 per cent mark somewhere around 4pm the next day. It meant for other phones, I would dutifully charge them overnight but forgetting to charge the iPhone 14 Plus won’t hamper your day much. Performance is that old iPhone-consistent butter fluidity and unlike the iPhone 14 Pro’s quirks, the phone has proven to be stable without getting too hot during more demanding apps such as games like Genshin Impact. Like the iPhone 14, the iPhone 14 Plus offers a decent camera with accurate colour and good detail even indoors. — Picture by Erna Mahyuni That camera What else can be said about the iPhone 14 Plus’ cameras that wasn’t said about the iPhone 14? It’s a solid set of cameras. Not as fancy as the iPhone 14 Pro 48MP main camera but the 12MP wide and 12MP ultra wide duo with 2x optical zoom are still a solid pair. I’d say the Photonic engine has improved the quality of iPhone 14 cameras across the board. Perhaps not enough to upgrade from an iPhone 13 model to an iPhone 14, but obvious enough. Though the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus don’t have the extra optical zoom that’s exclusively on the iPhone 14 Pro, they’re just as capable if you want to shoot video. Though you could argue that Sony’s new Pro models are giving Apple a good fight in the video stakes, what can’t be denied is that the better video camera and editing apps are more easily available on the App Store than Google Play. With other features such as Action mode that lets you take photos outdoors during more vigorous activity without needing an extra stabiliser such as a tripod or gimbal, there’s a lot of utility to squeeze out of the iPhone 14 Plus. While the iPhone 14 Plus and the iPhone 14 Pro Max both have the same size display, the 14 Plus is much lighter and easier to carry around. — Picture by Erna Mahyuni A good or bad proposition? As much as the iPhone 14 Pro models are great phones, they’re not for everyone and they were never meant to be. The iPhones offer good performance, premium build and the key to Apple’s inviting walled garden that it calls an ecosystem. Yes, the argument is that Android phones are cutting-edge feature-wise and each year, the Samsung Flip phones keep getting almost cool enough for me to get one. If you want the latest in phone tech, Huawei and Samsung still lead while Apple is content to wait, see and refine further, while charging a lot more for it. Still, at least Apple has finally got onboard with repairability so if you do damage your new iPhone it will be easier to fix, especially now they’ve made parts like the glass back easier to remove and replace. Get the iPhone 14 Plus for the larger screen. Get it for the portability and much better battery. Everything else, like the new Crash Detection sensor is a bonus. The iPhone 14 Plus is available now starting at RM4,699 at your usual Apple retail store in six colours (blue, purple, midnight, starlight, and Product Red) and 128GB, 256GB and 512GB storage options.
