When it comes to the decentralized world of crypto, few single entities loom larger or carry more weight in the industry than exchange behemoth Binance. The blockchain giant processed $34 trillion in trading volume in 2021, it says, and the exchange shows few signs of resting on its laurels as it pursues bold new bets to diversify its business.
At the forefront of these changes is Binance founder and CEO Changpeng Zhao.
The leader, commonly known as “CZ,” has managed to cultivate a celebrity status in the crypto space rivaled only by some of the space’s patron saints, including the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto and Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin. Zhao is worth an estimated $65 billion.
We’re thrilled to welcome Changpeng Zhao to TC Sessions: Crypto 2022 in Miami on November 17. CZ will join our stage virtually and we’re looking forward to discussing global market opportunities in a bear market, the regulatory challenges up ahead and where opportunities are (and aren’t) in web3.
Binance has been extremely busy in 2022, even amid a crash in cryptocurrency prices and macroeconomic uncertainty.
The company has continued to diversify its offerings and scour for new markets. In recent months, the company’s stateside entity Binance.US earned new investment as it strives to topple incumbents like Coinbase.
Competitors have also been taking notice. And while Binance sits comfortably atop the market for crypto exchanges, rising competitors like FTX are looking to find new opportunities to increase their market share, pursuing bold M&A strategies and scaling venture investments.
The exchange’s breakneck growth has attracted the attention of regulators as well, particularly in the United States. This summer, Bloomberg reported that the SEC was investigating Binance’s 2017 coin offering of their BNB token. That ecosystem is now the third-largest non-stablecoin cryptocurrency by market cap with a value north of $40 billion.
TC Sessions: Crypto takes place on November 17 in Miami. Take advantage of our special launch pricing — save $250 on General Admission passes while supplies last. Buy your pass today, and then join the web3, DeFi and NFT communities to keep up with the ever-evolving and always exciting cryptoverse.

U.S. Ambassador To The Philippines Meets With Filipino Community In Honolulu – Hawaii News Now https://collincountynewsonline.com/u-s-ambassador-to-the-philippines-meets-with-filipino-community-in-honolulu-hawaii-news-now/
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – America’s top diplomatic official to the Philippines is in Honolulu this week for high level security meetings.
U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson joined top Philippine military officials in meetings with U.S. defense secretary Lloyd Austin and Indo Pacific Command’s top brass.
But defense isn’t the only priority. Carlson met with a few members of the Filipino community on Saturday for some food diplomacy at Terry’s Place in Chinatown.
A career diplomat, Carlson is just a few months into her stint as the U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines — but she’s hit the ground running.
“I had the honor to to participate in that meeting, and to see firsthand the significance of our alliance, and to see that it is a an evolving and enduring partnership between our two militaries, that benefits our peoples, because the security, you can’t have economic development, or education or anything without that security cooperation,” she said.
Economic development is top of mind for many Hawaii Filipino entrepreneurs, young professionals and politicians, who met with Carlson for a roundtable lunch.
Melody Calisay runs an import business — she wants to know what the U,S, is doing about China’s growing influence in the region and potential impact on trade.
“I was able to share with her my future concerns especially I’m a businesswoman. And I know what the what is going on on the shipping problems in the Philippines. So she gave me a very good perspective on what to expect,” Calisay said.
But military interests aren’t the only reason the United States and the Philippines have maintained strong ties for more than 75 years, despite some bumps during the prior administration.
“I’m so excited to be part of reinvigorating the partnership as we come out of primarily two years of a pandemic experience, where all relationships of all types were constrained,” Carlson said.
Carlson said the U.S. is working to improve access to veterans services and expedite visa processing and other consular issues.
“We are working very diligently to to increase our operations again. But it’s not like turning on a switch. I wish it work. But we are committed to improving our services and reducing the wait times,” Carlson said.
Some believe bringing in overseas workers could be one solution to the labor shortage crisis.
“Whether it’s in teachers or nurses or, or folks who do landscaping, that we can do what we can to make sure that under the constraints of the laws of both of our countries, that we facilitate immigration and travel to the greatest extent possible,” Carlson said.
Just as the early waves of Filipino workers helped grow Hawaii’s economy, some believe a new wave can help with post-pandemic recovery.

Mass Resignations Hit Chinhoyi University Of Technology Bulawayo24 News
Mass Resignations Hit Chinhoyi University Of Technology – Bulawayo24 News https://collincountynewsonline.com/mass-resignations-hit-chinhoyi-university-of-technology-bulawayo24-news/
THERE is high attrition of academic staff at Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) due to poor salaries and other conditions of service.
The resignations of senior staffers, including professors, leaving for other better rewarding higher and tertiary institutions, locally and abroad, is threatening excellent education delivery at the institution.
Speaking during CUT’s graduation ceremony in Chinhoyi Friday, Vice Chancellor, David Jambgwa Simbi said the brain drain had negatively impacted on the institution’s capacity to deliver on its mandate of being the citadel of technological innovations.
“The issue of brain drain that nearly destroyed higher education between 2006 and 2009 is resurfacing. Since January 2022, nineteen (19) academics have resigned from CUT, of which 14 were PhDs and professors,” said Simbi.
“This is a disturbing statistic as it flies in the face of efforts by the executive in championing innovation and industrialisation pillars.
“Most academics are, however, leaving to introduce the same concepts at universities that they are going to.”
Simbi hinted that those who left CUT would regret as better days were coming.
“I, however, have a message for those who are leaving that the sun is rising,” he said.
The vice chancellor lamented that the university had recorded a low uptake of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programmes at postgraduate level due to a shortage of tutors and resources.
Meanwhile, CUT Chancellor, President Emmerson Mnangagwa challenged graduates to demonstrate acquired education by making products and services and should desist from bragging about having useless paper qualifications.
“Paper qualification can be futile if you cannot produce something tangible. We must celebrate producing something tangible.
“We must have a high performance and results culture within the higher and tertiary education ecosystem,” Mnangagwa said.
He made the remarks while addressing guests the institution’s farm where he commissioned Industrial Cattle Fattening Pens and Medicinal Feed Factory, which are part of several initiatives and innovations by the institution.
“We must no longer celebrate because you now have a paper qualification, but that you have been moulded in a practical way that enables you to produce goods and services.”
Mnangagwa emphasised that the education system should adequately empower a graduate to self-sustain and contribute to national development to dovetail with the national thrust of modernisation and industrialisation to ensure attainment of an upper middle income society by 2030.

A Sachse resident, Josiah Perez, 25, has been arraigned on two charges of attempted capital murder for his role in a shooting of two Sachse police officers Sept. 2, according to information released by the Sachse Police Department earlier this week.
Perez was arraigned following his recovery from a gunshot wound sustained in the incident.
On Sept. 2, two Sachse police officers were parked in the parking lot of MedPost Urgent Care, located at 7760 S. State Highway 78, in a police vehicle when Perez allegedly fired a shotgun into the vehicle striking both officers. One of the officers in the vehicle managed to fire his gun, wounding Perez as well.
Both officers sustained non-life threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital and later released.
Department officials said their recovery continues to progress and they are anticipated to return to duty in the coming weeks.
The department has not identified a motive for the shooting. According to the news release, the Texas Rangers will continue investigating the case and file the two charges with the Collin County District Attorney’s Office.
As of Wednesday, Sept. 28, Sachse PD has not revealed the identities of the two officers.

Chinese Billionaire Richard Liu Settles US Rape Allegation – 69News WFMZ-TV https://collincountynewsonline.com/chinese-billionaire-richard-liu-settles-us-rape-allegation-69news-wfmz-tv/
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Chinese billionaire and JD.com founder Richard Liu agreed to settle a lawsuit filed by a former University of Minnesota student who alleged he raped her in her Minneapolis apartment after a night of dinner and drinks with wealthy Chinese executives in 2018, attorneys for both sides announced late Saturday.
A settlement amount was not disclosed.
Richard Liu, who stepped down as the CEO of Beijing-based e-commerce company JD.com this year amid increased government scrutiny of China’s technology industry, has denied raping the woman, Jingyao Liu, and prosecutors never filed criminal charges. A joint statement from attorneys for both sides called the encounter “a misunderstanding.”
“The incident between Ms. Jingyao Liu and Mr. Richard Liu in Minnesota in 2018 resulted in a misunderstanding that has consumed substantial public attention and brought profound suffering to the parties and their families,” the joint statement said. “Today, the parties agreed to set aside their differences, and settle their legal dispute in order to avoid further pain and suffering caused by the lawsuit.”
The settlement was announced just two days before the civil trial was set to begin Monday in a Minneapolis courtroom. On Friday, a jury of seven men and five women were picked to hear the case.
Richard Liu is a celebrity in China, part of a generation of entrepreneurs who created the country’s internet, e-commerce, mobile phone and other technology industries since the late 1990s. Forbes estimated his wealth at $10.9 billion on Saturday.
Jingyao Liu alleges the attack happened in 2018 while Richard Liu was in Minneapolis for a weeklong residency in the University of Minnesota’s doctor of business administration China program, geared toward high-level executives in China.
Jingyao Liu, a Chinese citizen, was at the university on a student visa and was a volunteer in the program at the time. The Associated Press does not generally name people alleging sexual assault, but Jingyao Liu has agreed to be identified publicly.
Jingyao Liu was 21 and Richard Liu was in his mid-40s at the time, the lawsuit said. They are not related.
Richard Liu, also known as Liu Qiangdong, was arrested on suspicion of felony rape in August 2018, but prosecutors said the case had “profound evidentiary problems” and declined to file criminal charges.
Jingyao Liu sued Richard Liu and JD.com in 2019, alleging sexual assault and battery, along with false imprisonment.
The case drew widespread attention at a time when the #MeToo movement was gaining traction in China. Richard Liu’s supporters and opponents waged an aggressive public relations campaigns on Chinese social media; censors shut down some accounts that supported Jingyao Liu for “violating regulations.”
Jingyao Liu said in her lawsuit that she had to withdraw from classes in fall 2018 and seek counseling and treatment. Her attorney said she has since graduated but has post-traumatic stress disorder. She sought compensatory as well as punitive damages from Richard Liu.
Her lawsuit said she was seeking more than $50,000, a standard figure that must be listed in Minnesota if a plaintiff intends to seek any larger amount. She was expected to ask a jury to award much more.
On the night of the alleged attack, according to the lawsuit, Richard Liu and other executives went to a Japanese restaurant in Minneapolis and one of the men invited Jingyao Liu at Richard Liu’s request.
She felt coerced to drink as the powerful men toasted her, and Richard Liu said she would dishonor him if she did not join in, her lawsuit claimed.
According to text messages reviewed by The Associated Press and Jingyao Liu’s interviews with police, she said that after the dinner Richard Liu pulled her into a limousine and groped her despite her protests. She said he raped her at her apartment. At one point, she texted a friend: “I begged him don’t. But he didn’t listen.”
Her friend notified police, who went to her apartment. Jingyao Liu told one officer, “I was raped but not that kind of rape,” according to police. When asked to explain, she changed the subject and said Richard Liu was famous and she was afraid. She told the officer that the sex was “spontaneous” and she did not want police to get involved.
Police said they released Richard Liu because “it was unclear if a crime had actually taken place.” In a later interview with an investigator, Richard Liu said the sex was consensual and the woman “enjoyed the whole process very much.”
Jingyao Liu told a police sergeant that she wanted to talk with Richard Liu’s attorney and threatened to go to the media if she did not, according to police. Richard Liu’s former attorney recorded the phone call, in which Jingyao Liu said she didn’t want the case to be in the newspaper and “I just need payment money and apologize and that’s all.”
A recording of the phone call was expected to be played as evidence at trial. Surveillance videos from the restaurant, the restaurant’s exterior and the halls of the woman’s apartment complex were also expected to be played for jurors.

How Bentley Systems’ 3DFT Could Conquer The Infrastructure Metaverse – VentureBeat https://collincountynewsonline.com/how-bentley-systems-3dft-could-conquer-the-infrastructure-metaverse-venturebeat/

Construction data can quickly scale into gigabytes and terabytes of data. The field is complicated because teams use various file formats to design, construct and operate a building or facility. Teams must often load the whole file into proprietary rendering tools before showing off a new design or collaborating on schedules. These files can be even more complex when building out large-scale digital twins of whole cities like Helsinki or Singapore.
Bentley Systems hopes to change that. At a technology demonstration event in London, Bentley showed off a new 3D streaming codec for the infrastructure metaverse called 3DFT. It’s already running on the Epic Unreal Engine, and Bentley plans to support other platforms down the road.
3DFT is not the first format for streaming metaverse data. The GIS industry has been streaming 2D data for years using tiles. And the Open Geospatial Consortium has been working on the 3D Tiles standard to extend streaming into the third dimension.
Greg Demchak, senior director of Bentley’s digital innovation lab, told VentureBeat that 3D Tiles is an excellent standard for rendering large outdoor environments. However, it struggles with rendering physical infrastructure such as BIM models at high quality. This is important for building designers who are evaluating trade-offs in design choices.
Faster iteration
Simon Blakeney, technical account manager at Epic Games, said that with traditional 3D formats, teams might wait up to 20 minutes to load a new dataset. “With 3DFT, the data just flows through. It really speeds up the iteration for design reviews.”
Another strength is that 3DFT does a good job of capturing asset IDs about the objects in a space. This could help connect objects like doors and windows to a rich trail of information relating to costs, scheduling, clashes and analytics. Down the road, Blakeney predicts this will make it easier to weave this raw data into applications for stress testing, simulating crowds in a space or optimizing schedules.
“The world is your oyster once you have hooked into the IDs,” Blakeney said.
The new codec is part of Bentley’s broader plan to build out the infrastructure metaverse on top of tools like iTwin for consolidating all construction data into a basic overlay.
“While we have many products, the platform lets us make all information available, including the 3D models, metadata and point cloud data, and store it in a single source of trust, and then you can start to build apps on top of it,” said Demchak.
For example, third parties are developing tools to automatically detect cell tower assets from drone footage and populate an inventory. Down the road, Bentley hopes this could allow a whole ecosystem of custom-built solutions for construction and asset management.
Demchak’s team has experimented with building integrations into all three major platforms from Unity, Nvidia Omniverse and Epic Unreal. They are currently getting the best results for live immersive experiences on the Unreal platform. But Demchak observed that the other platforms are working to catch up. He has found the Omniverse ideal for generating photorealistic video walkthroughs after the fact.
Collaboration required to connect worlds
Bentley is certainly not the only construction giant fleshing out its infrastructure metaverse strategy. Autodesk also announced a collaboration with Epic to make it easier to create virtual walkthroughs from Revit data.
Architectural and construction firms are starting to innovate on Epic as well. For example, Zaha Hadid has created a building configurator for a new project off the coast of Honduras. It allows consumers to customize a new home and virtually walk through a mockup. This improves the customer experience and helps optimize construction time.
“We work very closely with Bentley, Autodesk and other third parties to ensure that other tools can be interoperable with our ecosystem,” Epic Games’ Blakeney said.
But at the moment, it can be challenging to move data between the different construction software platforms. Demchak hopes that the big construction tool providers can overcome their differences to promote interoperability.
“In my dream state, we are trying to achieve lossless transmission of formats from one to the next,” Demchak said. “There should be no loss in fidelity if I go from Revit to iTwin. There should be no reason that any of that information should diminish.”
In the long run, this will help enable an immersive experience that allows teams to use their tool of choice while collaborating on the same underlying dataset.
“It will be less about an experience of a file and more about a connection where whatever happens behind the scenes just works,” Demchak said.

Sleep deprivation in long run leads to Alzheimer’s: Expert
Scientific research on Alzheimer’s patients has shown that sound sleep for seven to eight hours every day is absolutely essential. Sleep is the time for the restorative activity for the body and mind; the brain cleanses itself of the abnormal proteins beta-amyloid and tau that are created due to high metabolic activity. Sleep deprivation in the long run accumulates and is detrimental to brain health leading to Alzheimer’s, says Dr Naresh Purohit, executive member of the Indian Academy of Neurosciences.
Sharing his concern on the rise in Alzheimer’s cases in the country, Dr Purohit, Principal Investigator for the Association of Studies for Mental Care, said at a recent event that India is on the cusp of a dementia epidemic with dementia patients projected to spike from the 44 lakh at present to over one crore by 2050. Incidentally, this surge can be ascribed to the growth in our geriatric population as India moves closer to becoming the world’s most populous country, surpassing even China.
He said Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is one of the neuro-degenerative diseases and accounts for sixty to seventy per cent of cases of dementia. Usually, the disease starts slowly and turns worse in due course of time.
“One of the most common symptoms is memory loss, even about the recent events. This is known as shortterm memory loss syndrome. With the advancement of the problem, symptoms of trouble with the loss of motivation, language, mood swing, easily getting lost, issues with behaviour and taking self-care etc are seen among the affected persons,” he added.
Dr Purohit, also Advisor for National Mental Health Programme, averred that in Alzheimer’s patients the ability to switch from a state of wandering mind to attentiveness breaks down leading to memory lapses and disorientation.
He cautions, that there is no cure or medicine to date for this ailment and therefore it is important to take steps to delay the onset of the disease.
He pointed out that medical research has established conclusively that smoking and excess sugar is harmful to the body but it is a big risk factor for developing dementia as well. Interestingly, factors that are linked to the onset of diabetes such as obesity and stress are also the factors that are likely to lead to Alzheimer’s and dementia, he added.
Experts explained that a healthy diet is another indispensable factor in how to delay the onset of neurological age-related conditions like Alzheimer’s. They suggest following a Mediterranean diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts and seeds. Seafood and eating eggs thrice a week while avoiding red meat, processed foods, and white flour, help not only in preventing dementia but also heart disease.
Experts revealed that focussed activity such as practising meditation for a sustained period changes the brain structures and helps patients with memory-related disorders.
“People need to do something that will challenge their brain and make one feel wanted,” experts said.
They emphasised that half an hour of physical exercise every day, whether it be Yoga or even walking is non-negotiable. Such activities help to maintain the fitness of not just the body but also the mind.
They averred that keeping the mind active be it through problem-solving, crossword or even learning languages helps immensely. Social interactions, taking part in clubs and associations and doing charity work especially to keep the mind engaged after retirement are crucial.
Experts clarified that WhatsApping or even being on Instagram is not social interaction.

India’s Directorate of Enforcement (ED) says it has frozen more cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin, tether, and the Wazirx token. The action is part of its investigation of the mobile gaming app E-nuggets. In its latest announcement, the ED revealed that nearly 86 bitcoins found at crypto exchange Binance were frozen.
Indian Authority Freezes More Cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin, Tether, Wazirx Token
India’s Directorate of Enforcement (ED) announced Friday that it has frozen two more cryptocurrencies under the country’s Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The ED is the Indian government’s law enforcement and economic intelligence agency. The announcement details:
Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has freezed the crypto currencies WRX (utility token of Wazirx) and USDT (tether, an Ethereum token that is pegged to the value of a U.S. dollar) equivalent to Rs 47.64 lakhs.
The ED initiated a money laundering investigation of Aamir Khan and others relating to E-nuggets on the basis of an FIR dated Feb. 15, 2021.
Aamir Khan, S/o Nesar Ahmed Khan launched E-Nuggets, “which was designed for the purpose of defrauding public,” the Indian authority said. “Further, after collecting handsome amount from the public, all of the sudden, the withdrawal from the said app, was stopped, on the pretext of one and other excuses.”
The agency explained that its investigations have revealed that the accused transferred the amount earned through the E-nuggets gaming app using a cryptocurrency exchange, elaborating:
Amount equivalent to Rs 47.64 lakh was found in the wallet of Wazirx (crypto exchange) belonging to Aamir khan and its associates and the same has been freezed under PMLA.
In addition, the ED noted that during searches conducted earlier against Amir Khan, Rs 17.32 crore cash was found and seized from the residential premises.
Indian Authority Freezes More Bitcoin at Binance
The latest announcement by the ED states:
85.91870554 bitcoins equivalent to USD $1,674,255.7 (equivalent to Rs 13.56 Cr approx. as per market exchange rate) found in balance in Binance exchange was freezed.
In an earlier announcement, the ED said it had frozen 77.62710139 bitcoins on Binance. That means the ED froze 8.29160415 more BTC.
Binance was believed to have acquired Wazirx in 2019. However, Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) recently said that the acquisition “was never completed,” emphasizing that “Binance has never — at any point — owned any shares of Zanmai Labs, the entity operating Wazirx.”
The ED froze the bank assets of Wazirx worth more than $8 million in August. However, earlier this month, Wazirx said that its bank accounts have been unfrozen. Following Wazirx, the ED froze crypto and bank assets worth $46 million of Vauld, a crypto platform backed by Peter Thiel. In August, the agency searched crypto exchange Coinswitch Kuber. However, the exchange’s CEO said that it was not related to money laundering investigations.
What do you think about the Indian authority freezing more cryptocurrencies amid money-laundering investigations? Let us know in the comments section below.

A highly trained team, navigating canals in hard hit areas like Pine and Sanibel Island, rescued residents Saturday from communities cut off by the devastation of Hurricane Ian.
“These are 15-foot rubber inflatable boats. they’re very capable in smaller sea conditions,” Lt. Joshua Welsh, a member of the National Strike Force with the U.S. Coast Guard said.
The critical flood response team is made up of members from around the country and has been assisting in lifesaving rescues since before Hurricane Ian hit.
“We’ve been going through the canals and going to places that are hard to reach because our boats are more capable of going into shallow areas,” Welsh, who leads leading the multi-missioned crew said.
So far the team has assisted in 50 rescues.
“They have wheels that can flip down on the back of them and they are also transportable,” he said.
Navigating areas where other agencies can’t, Welch said the rescues are difficult but rewarding.
Local
“It’s exhausting but fulfilling. Even just talking to someone and they have that relief that we’re out there and we’re there if they need us,” he said. “It’s very gratifying.”
In coming days, the National Strike Force will transition its focus to recovery.
“Checking for oil spills, checking for any kind of pollution, status of the ports,” Welch said.
On top of 50 rescues Saturday, the team did 45 wellness checks on Sanibel and Pine Islands. It is just one of many agencies out here trying to reach those stranded and cut off from the mainland.

Different week, similar story for the Aggies. Slow start. Abysmal offense. Behind early with a 14-0 deficit, needing a miraculous comeback from a sputtering offense.
Two lost fumbles in the first half killed the Aggies. Texas A&M ran a measly 23 plays in the first half, while Mississippi State doubled them with 46. Tack on two interceptions in the second half, one of them returned for a touchdown, and things got ugly.
A final score of 42-24 fails to illustrate how disappointing of a performance the Aggies had on Saturday, Oct. 1st in Starkville, Miss. Coming in without do-it-all star senior wide receiver Anias Smith, the Aggies knew it would be a tough task to pull out a victory over Mississippi State. A&M had struggled to get anything going on offense all season, made a quarterback change mid-season and depended on a bend-but-don’t-break style of defense with timely takeaways. After falling to Appalachian State in Week 2, the maroon and white took down Miami and Arkansas in back to back weeks. Things appeared to be trending up for the Ags.
However, like Week 2, Saturday marked another massive setback for head coach Jimbo Fisher’s program.
A&M was embarrassed by their SEC maroon counterpart. The cow bells in the stands rattled all afternoon, and Fisher’s squad looked rattled on the field. MSU junior quarterback Will Rogers had all day in the pocket, the Bulldogs ran the ball effectively and A&M struggled to gain any yardage. A tough sight to see, the Aggies were beaten in all three phases of the game.
Mississippi State began the game with the ball, but was forced to punt after a pair of first downs and a dropped interception from senior safety Demani Richardson. The Aggies first play involved junior running back Devon Achane split outside as a receiver and hauling in a 9-yard catch. Achane evaded linebackers in the Aggies’ backfield multiple times and ran for two first downs before the drive fizzled out at Mississippi State’s 48 yard line.
The Bulldogs’ ran up the middle for a first down on fourth-and-4 on the next drive. Even the pass happy head coach Mike Leach established the ground game on Saturday against A&M’s struggling rush defense on the interior. Mississippi State amassed 144 total yards on the ground between 24 carries. On the next set of downs, a timely stop forced State to punt back to sophomore wide receiver Moose Muhammad III at the 10-yard line. The very next snap, Achane, the only sign of life on A&M’s offense, broke off a 20-yard rush and was grabbed by the facemask which tacked on 15 extra yards. However, subpar pass protection left junior quarterback Max Johnson with no time to get anything going, leading to another Aggie punt.
The Bulldogs had many self-inflicted wounds, including four false starts and poor throws from Rogers. However, the Aggies did not capitalize on these opportunities. On third-and-10, junior safety Antonio Johnson dropped an easy interception and probable pick-6. Aggie defenders got their hands on the football on four different occasions, but were unable to secure the interception on any of those. Getting the ball back after the ensuing punt on fourth down, the Aggies moved the ball down the field, leaning on Achane like a bell cow back. The Aggies seemed to have a hold of the momentum until Achane ran forward to the 10-yard line and was stripped of the ball by senior defensive back Collin Duncan.
The Bulldogs jumped on the ball and the pivotal turnover changed the trajectory of the game. Rogers drove down the field, and then challenged true-freshman Aggie cornerback Denver Harris on two consecutive throws in the endzone, with the second resulting in a touchdown pass.
Needing points before half, A&M had one minute and good field position. In the red zone, Johnson dropped back, was hit and lost the ball. The other team in maroon jumped on the ball and kept all momentum. Nothing seemed to be going the Ags way.
Down 14-0, A&M needed a touchdown on their opening drive of the second half. They drove down the field with the help of a targeting call on Mississippi State. On third down, Johnson eluded defenders and threw to wide open true-freshman wide receiver Evan Stewart who dropped the ball in the endzone.
A sophomore kicker Randy Bond field goal put A&M on the board, and a fumble recovery by true-freshman defensive tackle Walter Nolen had the Ags back in business. This was the turnover and spark they needed to get back in the game, just like the fumble recovery last week in Jerry World.
However, the Aggies moved backwards from where they started, and had their field goal attempt blocked and returned for a touchdown. All hope seemed to be swatted away with the ball. This series of events was a good representation of the game for the Ags, and a good representation of their season thus far.
A deep ball touchdown to Muhammad was a positve but trivial to the result of the game. To add insult to injury, Johnson left the game after hurting his hand and the former starter turned backup sophomore quarterback Haynes King entered the game. King had a nice touchdown run, but two interceptions in what was garbage time at that point.
A&M converted only two of nine third-down conversion attempts, had four turnovers and gave up touchdowns on offense and special teams. These critical stats are often the deciding factor of wins and losses, and no team can expect to win with a performance like that. The issues of this team extend far beyond singular players.
Fisher will likely be under fire from the media once again. “We’re not executing,” Fisher said. Multiple dropped interceptions, dropped passes and even bad snaps stood out while watching the Aggies. The level of execution on Saturday was poor to put it kindly and this loss leaves questions about the status of the program in Fisher’s fifth year. The Ags are now sitting at 3-2 with an extremely underwhelming product on the field. After Saturday’s blunder, the Aggies will try to right the ship and improve.
“We have to keep growing up. We have to keep coaching, and we have to keep putting them in those positions,” Fisher said.
Fisher remains confident about the status of his program moving forward.
“We’re not where we want to be, no doubt. We got to get better,” Fisher said.
A&M will have an opportunity to get better when they travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala. to play the Crimson Tide on OI’m ct. 8 at 7 p.m.

Joel Embiid Has Obtained American Citizenship! – US Sports – US Sports – https://collincountynewsonline.com/joel-embiid-has-obtained-american-citizenship-us-sports-us-sports/
This is news that must not have pleased Vincent Collet! While Joel Embiid obtained French nationality two months ago, and could therefore play in the blue jersey at the 2023 World Cup or the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, which has caused many debates in French basketball, here that we learn that the pivot born in Cameroon 28 years ago also obtained American nationality! The 76ers center confirmed to The Associated Press on Thursday that he was sworn in as a US citizen in Philadelphia two weeks ago. » I have been here a long time. My son (Arthur, born in September 2020, editor’s note) is American. I live here and it’s a blessing to be an American. So I said, why not? “said the man with three passports. Born in Yaoundé in 1994, Joel Embiid arrived in the United States, more precisely in Florida, at 16, before joining the University of Kansas in 2012, then being drafted in first position by the 76ers two years later. .
Embiid is a fan of French culture
From the point of view of his history with the country, his American naturalization therefore seems more logical than his French naturalization. In January 2018, Joel Embiid had however confided in the columns of L’Equipe to have come to France when he was a child and to love French culture: “I have a lot of family in France. Uncles, aunts… I went there when I was little to spend two months on vacation. I haven’t had the opportunity to go back since I’ve been in the NBA, but as long as I’m healthy and during the summer I have nothing to do here in Philadelphia, I would like to travel. I love French food, Roland-Garros! I want to see the Tour de France. I really want to attend it in the race director’s car, for a mountain event. “It now remains to wait for his answer to the big question: for which selection does he want to play? « It’s still too early to think about the Olympics or other international tournaments. I just want to be healthy and win a ring, » he told The Associated Press. Reinforce the French team to face the United States eye to eye in Paris 2024, or reinforce a Team USA already quite dominant when it is complete? It’s up to him to choose…
Bootlaces On Angleseys Beaches Make Healthy Cost-Of-Living Treat North Wales Live
‘Bootlaces’ On Anglesey’s Beaches Make Healthy Cost-Of-Living Treat – North Wales Live https://collincountynewsonline.com/bootlaces-on-angleseys-beaches-make-healthy-cost-of-living-treat-north-wales-live/
A free, largely untapped food source lies all around us. On the coasts of North Wales there are around 600 types of sea vegetables that have been lauded for their superfood status. To harvest them, you only need to get your hands wet.
Seaweed has been used for thousands of years in cuisines around the world and, of course, Wales has its own distinctive contribution in the form of laverbread – the “Welshman’s caviar”, according to actor Richard Burton. Long neglected, interest in seaweed is increasing again amid growing awareness of its health and environmental benefits.
Food security is another reason why people are again looking to Britain’s coastlines. It was why mum-of-two Sarah Roberts began combing Anglesey’s beaches for tasty treats two years ago.

“My interest started during lockdown,” said Sarah, who with partner Andy has a house in Llanfaechlu. “After having my second baby I began thinking about food supply as many did, and wondered what we could use from the beach.
“I started looking online and I’m still learning about it. But I know it’s packed full of goodness and when you start looking it’s everywhere.
“It’s nice to be able to ask Andy to pop to the beach with the bucket and get some gutweed! Rinse it to get the sand off, pat dry with kitchen roll, deep fry in vegetable oil for about 10-15 seconds and lift out. Sprinkle on sugar and away you go!”
Sarah Roberts forages for seaweed on Anglesey with partner Andrew Foley Jones and their two young sons. Often they combine it with litter picking (Image: Sarah Roberts)
For Sarah, the attraction was seaweed’s sustainability and the healthy benefits it offered her three boys – youngsters Ianto, five, and Iolo, two, and her partner of 18 years Andrew Foley Jones, a director at Mackenzie Jones solicitors. Collecting it offers plenty of fresh air and exercise too – the family usually litter pick at the same time.
The key, said Sarah, a former travel firm sales director, is to harvest seaweed sympathetically.
“I’ve wanted to try the sea kale but you should really only harvest it if it’s in plentiful supply,” she said. “On Borth Wen beach there are only a few plants, so I’ve left those alone.”
Not all her dishes have been a success: Sarah says the sea kelp crisps she made were “horrid”. But others have become staples, such as magnesium-rich seaweed spaghetti. “I use it with either prawns or mussels in garlic and fresh tomatoes, mixed with olive oil. Sometimes white fish too,” she said.
Tempted by seaweed? Or just too much hassle? Share your thoughts in the comments below?
Often she buys sea spaghetti, also known as thongweed. But on a recent trip to Traeth Borth Wen, near Rhoscolyn, she came across what appear to be some washed up on the beach. Sharing a photo on Facebook, the consensus it was in fact Chorda filum, otherwise known as bootlace weed, dead man’s rope, sea lace, cat’s gut and mermaid’s fishing line.
Reaching up to eight metres, it is rich in age-halting and cancer-busting antioxidants. Although edible, dead mean’s bootlace is not widely eaten but this is slowly changing. Fried with ginger, garlic, miso paste and red pepper, then added to boiling water, it is said to be delicious.
Sarah didn’t cook her beach-found bootlace. The golden rule with beach foraging is to harvest from source: once detached, it starts to decompose. Instead, she said, it made an excellent prop for “chasing the kids around the beach”.
Sarah’s dishes have included squid served on fried gutweed and, less successfully, sea kelp crisps (Image: Sarah Roberts)
Of all the seaweed species around Britain, more than 95% are safe to eat – the rest may give you stomach ache. Inevitably, some will taste better than others. It can be eaten fresh, dried, cooked or in powder form. Seaweed can be dried in greenhouses or even on washing lines.
According to Natural Resources Wales, anyone can collect floating seaweed if it is unattached. If it is growing on the foreshore or seabed, or is drift seaweed, technically you should get the landowner’s permission. As long as it’s for personal consumption, and is harvested away from polluted areas like ports, there should be few problems.
In an era of vitamin-depleted supermarket vegetables, one of the great benefits of foraged seaweed is its nutritional quality. Some have different mineral contents but all contain calcium, iron, zinc and iodine. For vegans, it’s a good source of proteins too.
Iodine supports thyroid health and studies have shown seaweed may lower blood pressure. And as seaweed is rich in dietary fibre, it is said to promote good gut health too.
For anyone contemplating seaweed foraging, further research is advised, if only to discover the best species and to learn how to identify them. Doing so will connect you with a Welsh tradition of seaweed harvesting that was first noted by Roman writers.
Once, a thriving cottage industry operated on the Welsh coast. Some seaweeds were harvested for food, other for fertilising farmland. Stone ramps still found on some coastal stretches bear testament to this tradition – they were built for carts and pack horses to haul away seaweed.
One historic record suggests as many as 2,000 cartloads of seaweed were cast up near New Quay, Ceredigion, by a storm, all of which were carried away by farmers in a fortnight. Another, in the Anglesey archives, tells of two men drowning in 1843 when their boat capsized: they were using it to collect seaweed for potato manure.

Browns Star Garrett Out Vs. Falcons | News, Sports, Jobs – Warren Tribune Chronicle https://collincountynewsonline.com/browns-star-garrett-out-vs-falcons-news-sports-jobs-warren-tribune-chronicle/
CLEVELAND — Myles Garrett will not play in Sunday’s game against Atlanta, giving the Browns star defensive end more time to recover from multiple injuries suffered when he crashed his Porsche earlier in the week.
The All-Pro hurt his shoulder, biceps, had several cuts and bruises, and broke a blood vessel in his left eye when he lost control while speeding near his home. Garrett veered into a ditch, hit a fire hydrant and flipped his car several times on Monday after practice.
The Browns listed him as questionable Friday before downgrading the 26-year-old to out on Saturday before flying to Georgia to take on the Falcons. Garrett, who cleared concussion protocol, did not make the trip.
Speaking more softly than usual on Friday with signs of his accident apparent in an abrasion on his forehead and bright redness in his injured eye, Garrett said he felt fortunate to walk away from the wreck. A female passenger also suffered minor injuries.
“I’m glad that everything worked out in a positive light,” Garrett said. “We’re both healthy, both walking around. Just blessed with another day.”
Garrett has been cited numerous times by police for speeding in the past few years. He said the accident was a “wake-up” call and pledged to be more careful driving.
“I don’t think it takes something as drastic as this to tell me that I need to slow down,” Garrett said. “It’s about listening to my loved ones, hearing them out, and understanding that it is serious every time you get into the car.”
Garrett was cited by the Ohio Highway Patrol for losing control of his car. Garrett told an officer he thought he was going 65 mph in a 45 mph zone. In a post-crash report, the highway patrol said Garrett was driving at an “unsafe speed for the road being traveled.”
The highway patrol ruled out alcohol, drugs or distracted driving as causes for the accident.
One the NFL’s elite pass rushers, Garrett is one sack away from passing Clay Matthews for the team’s career mark.
The Browns defense, plagued by communication breakdowns in Weeks 1 and 2, has been dealing with numerous injuries lately. Cleveland could also be without their other starting end, Jadeveon Clowney.

Tim Cook On Why Apple Avoids The Term metaverse Unlike Facebook Business Insider
Tim Cook On Why Apple Avoids The Term ‘metaverse,’ Unlike Facebook – Business Insider https://collincountynewsonline.com/tim-cook-on-why-apple-avoids-the-term-metaverse-unlike-facebook-business-insider/
Apple CEO Tim Cook discussed AR, VR, and more in a new interview with Dutch media outlet Bright.
He said Apple avoids using the term “metaverse” because the average person doesn’t know what it is.
The tech giant’s approach is a stark contrast to Mark Zuckerberg’s obsession with the metaverse.

Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed in an exclusive interview with Dutch media outlet Bright that the tech giant’s hesitancy toward joining the metaverse hype is intentional.
“I always think it’s important that people understand what something is. And I’m really not sure the average person can tell you what the metaverse is,” Cook told the outlet.
The metaverse is a term derived from science-fiction and refers to a hypothetical version of a three-dimensional internet accessed via immersive technologies rather than 2D screens.
The word “metaverse” was only mentioned once on Apple earnings calls so far this year, compared to 36 mentions on Meta earnings calls. Despite the buzz word’s explosive usage across the industry, executives are divided on whether the metaverse represents a real product — like virtual reality — or if it’s just a concept for a virtual world that may never actually exist.
However, Mark Zuckerberg told staff in July that Meta is in “deep, philosophical competition” with Apple to build the metaverse.
Following Facebook’s name change and announcement last fall that it would invest $10 billion into building the so-called metaverse, the iPhone maker stood out from the wider tech industry in its apparent refusal to join Mark Zuckerberg’s latest obsession.
Instead, Apple has focused its emerging tech investment specifically on Augmented Reality.
When an analyst asked Cook this January about Apple’s role in the metaverse space, he responded that Apple is “always exploring new and emerging technologies” and pointed to the company’s 14,000 AR kit apps in the App Store.
“I think AR is a profound technology that will affect everything,” Cook told Bright in the interview published Friday, adding that virtual reality is not a way to “live your whole life.”
“It’s something you can really immerse yourself in. And that can be used in a good way,” he said. “VR is for regular periods, but not a way to communicate well. So I’m not against it, but that’s how I look at it.”

Decentralized Social (DESO) Outpaces Crypto Market And Surges 102% This Week Amid Integration With MetaMask The Daily Hodl
Decentralized Social (DESO) Outpaces Crypto Market And Surges 102% This Week Amid Integration With MetaMask – The Daily Hodl https://collincountynewsonline.com/decentralized-social-deso-outpaces-crypto-market-and-surges-102-this-week-amid-integration-with-metamask-the-daily-hodl/
A social media-focused altcoin is surging this week after the announcement of a new partnership with the popular crypto wallet MetaMask.
Decentralized social media platform Decentralized Social (DESO) rallied to a weekly high of $11 today, marking a 102% increase from its seven-day low of $5.43
The 226th-ranked crypto asset by market cap has retraced since the weekly high, but it remains up nearly 40% in the past 24 hours, trading at $10.32 at time of writing. Despite the slight pullback, DESO continues to outperform all other crypto assets within the top 300 by market cap ranking.
The Coinbase-backed layer-1 blockchain project aims to redefine the nature of social media applications by resolving scalability limitations as well as protecting users and content creators from centralized authorities.
Decentralized Social’s new integration with MetaMask “paves the way for DeSo to become the cross-chain social layer for all Web 3.0,” according to a press release from the project.
Explains DeSo founder Nader Al-Naji,
“Existing blockchains cannot store content efficiently. It costs about $50 to store a 200-character Tweet on Ethereum and about fifteen cents to store it on Solana, Avalanche or Polygon. In contrast, DeSo is one ten-thousandth of a cent, making it the first blockchain capable of disrupting storage-heavy applications like social.”
Decentralized Social has thus far operated in the Ethereum (ETH) ecosystem, but the project also plans to expand to Solana (SOL).
Despite the gains this week, DESO remains down almost 95% from its all-time high of $198.68, which it hit in June of 2021.

Chinese Billionaire Richard Liu Settles US Rape Allegation – The Associated Press https://collincountynewsonline.com/chinese-billionaire-richard-liu-settles-us-rape-allegation-the-associated-press/
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Chinese billionaire and JD.com founder Richard Liu agreed to settle a lawsuit filed by a former University of Minnesota student who alleged he raped her in her Minneapolis apartment after a night of dinner and drinks with wealthy Chinese executives in 2018, attorneys for both sides announced Saturday.
Richard Liu, who stepped down as the CEO of Beijing-based e-commerce company JD.com this year amid increased government scrutiny of China’s technology industry, has denied raping the woman, Jingyao Liu.
In a joint statement released Saturday night, attorneys for both sides said: “The incident between Ms. Jingyao Liu and Mr. Richard Liu in Minnesota in 2018 resulted in a misunderstanding that has consumed substantial public attention and brought profound suffering to the parties and their families. Today, the parties agreed to set aside their differences, and settle their legal dispute in order to avoid further pain and suffering caused by the lawsuit.”
A settlement amount was not disclosed. The settlement was announced just two days before a trial was set to begin in a Minneapolis courtroom.
Richard Liu was arrested on suspicion of felony rape in August 2018, but prosecutors said the case had “profound evidentiary problems” and declined to file criminal charges.
Jingyao Liu sued Richard Liu in 2019, saying he and the other businessmen coerced her to drink alcohol at a group dinner, and that he forced himself on her in his vehicle and later raped her in her apartment.
Finding A&Ms Offense Ahead Of SEC Road Match Against Mississippi State Texas A&M The Battalion
Finding A&M’s Offense Ahead Of SEC Road Match Against Mississippi State – Texas A&M The Battalion https://collincountynewsonline.com/finding-ams-offense-ahead-of-sec-road-match-against-mississippi-state-texas-am-the-battalion/
The offensive line has been a hot topic this season for Texas A&M football. After the thrilling win against No. 20 Arkansas over the weekend to open up SEC play, the squad seems to be finding its offensive niche and setting the tone for the remainder of the season.
Head coach Jimbo Fisher has had to continuously make offensive adjustments throughout the start of the season.
Ahead of the matchup against the Miami Hurricanes in Week 3, junior Max Johnson was named starting quarterback. Although the Aggies got the win over the Canes, the team was missing key pieces on offense from freshmen wide receivers Evan Stewart and Chris Marshall, who were suspended from the matchup.
Against Arkansas, Stewart scored his first career touchdown and broke A&M’s scoring drought with a 10- yard pass from Johnson into the end zone.
Junior running back Devon Achane, one of the most explosive offensive components for the Aggies, has scored a touchdown in all four games this season and rushed for a season high 159 yards against Arkansas.
Unfortunately, during such a big night for the team, senior wide receiver Ainias Smith suffered a lower body injury and will be out the remainder of the season.
Smith is one of the team’s leaders and an offensive weapon. With his absence, Fisher will be forced to make additional offensive adjustments as A&M prepares to take on Mississippi State this Saturday, Oct. 1.
“Now we have to get ready to go on the road against Mississippi State, which is an excellent team,” Fisher said. “[Defensive coordinator Zach] Arnett does a great job of mixing things, multiple blitzes, multiple fronts, three-down, four-down, standing guys up, mixes the secondary coverages up. They’ve been great on defense.”
This week’s offense performance against Mississippi State could set a precedent for the rest of the season, hopefully proving that the Aggies have found their balance, a goal of Fisher’s.
“I’m not very happy in the way we played,’’ Fisher said. “I don’t think we played close to our best. And that’s encouraging in that there’s a lot more in there in how we have to play. But also we need to realize that and get it done.”
Mississippi State is currently 3-1 and looks to extend its win streak against the Aggies after defeating the team last year.
Arnett is in his third season with the Bulldogs and seems to have a pretty solid system in place. The defensive line held last week’s opponent Bowling Green to just 79 rushing yards.
Senior safety Collin Duncan recorded his second sack of the season with an 8-yard sack that forced a punt.
Redshirt linebacker Nathaniel Watson is no stranger to making big stops as he led the Bulldogs with 10 tackles, marking his fourth career double-digit tackle game while also recording a sack that resulted in a loss of five yards.
Defensive forces like Duncan and Watson could shake up A&M’s ability to move the ball through the air and on the ground.

Ruptured Oil Pipeline Off California Approved For Repairs 69News WFMZ-TV
Ruptured Oil Pipeline Off California Approved For Repairs – 69News WFMZ-TV https://collincountynewsonline.com/ruptured-oil-pipeline-off-california-approved-for-repairs-69news-wfmz-tv/
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Texas oil company was granted permission to repair an underwater pipeline that ruptured off the coast of Southern California a year ago, spilled tens of thousands of gallons of crude, and forced beaches and fisheries to close.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers granted the approval Friday to Amplify Energy Corp., clearing the way to rebuild the aging pipeline that burst months after it was apparently weakened when it was snagged by the anchors of ships adrift in a storm.
The Oct. 1, 2021, rupture spilled about 25,000 gallons (94,600 liters) of oil into the Pacific Ocean, closed miles of beaches for a week, shuttered fisheries for months and coated birds and wetlands in oil.
The approval to rebuild the pipe running from an oil rig off Huntington Beach to tanks in Long Beach comes less than a month after Amplify pleaded guilty to federal charges of negligently discharging oil. The Houston-based company and two subsidiaries also agreed to plead no contest in state court to polluting water and killing birds.
Amplify said the approval will allow it to remove and replace the damaged segments of pipe from the ocean floor.
It estimated the work would take up to a month after a barge is in place. If it passes a series of safety tests after being fixed, the company said it expected to begin operating in the first quarter of 2023.
Environmentalists who want the pipeline shut down criticized the permit approval and renewed calls to put an end to offshore oil operations.
“The Biden administration just ramped up the risk of yet another ugly oil spill on California’s beautiful coast,” said Brady Bradshaw of the Center for Biological Diversity. “Unfortunately, people living near offshore drilling infrastructure are all too familiar with this abusive cycle of drill, spill, repeat.”
On Wednesday, the environmental group sued the federal government for allowing the platform where the pipeline originated to operate under outdated plans that indicated the platform should have been decommissioned more than a decade ago. The lawsuit also said the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management failed to review and require plan revisions, despite the spill.
Amplify contended that the spill wouldn’t have occurred if two ships hadn’t dragged their anchors across the pipeline and damaged it during a January 2021 storm. It said it wasn’t notified about the anchor snagging until after the spill.
While the size of the spill was not as bad as initially feared, U.S. prosecutors said the company should have been able to turn off the damaged line much sooner had it recognized the gravity of a series of leak-detection alarms over a 13-hour period.
The first alarm sounded late on the afternoon of Oct. 1, 2021, but workers misinterpreted the cause, according to the federal plea agreement.
When the alarm sounded throughout the night, workers shut down the pipeline to investigate and then restarted it after deciding they were false alarms. That spewed more oil.
It wasn’t until after daybreak that a boat identified the spill and the line was shut down.
As part of a federal court agreement to pay a $7 million fine and nearly $6 million in expenses incurred by agencies including the U.S. Coast Guard, the company and subsidiaries agreed to install a new leak-detection system and train employees to identify and respond to potential leaks.
The company agreed to plead guilty to six state misdemeanor charges and pay $4.9 million in penalties and fines as part of a settlement.

Naladhu Private Island Resort is one of the most exclusive Maldivian resorts there is. With only 20 private residences, this is the kind of place you come to relax and see no one. Or get out and explore and see everyone, if you prefer. Naladhu shares its home with Anantara Dhigu Maldives Resort and Anantara Veli Maldives Resort (currently undergoing a renovation of its own). This means that Naladhu guests have walking or private boat transfer access to all of their facilities. The same is not true in reverse since Naladhu is a private island reserved for just those staying here.
It’s the kind of retreat that many dream of with the option for direct beach access plus a private pool overlooking the sea. The houses range in size from 3,200 sq ft to the 6,500+ sq ft two-bedroom residence. Here are five of the top reasons to visit Naladhu Private Island Resort in the coming year.
The houses
Following a total renovation during a six-month closure, the houses (named for a Maldivian flower or plant) look better than ever. They traded their more colonial look for a more modern twist on beach decor. The update with lighter colors is the work of New York-based designer Yuji Yamazaki. A main focus of the redesign was creating more spaces for guests to sit and relax. This includes by the window, by the pool, in the pool-facing tub or even on a day bed. Swinging day beds on the terrace are especially popular.
The sky blue water in the distance is the highlight with the shimmering reflection of the private pool illuminating the rooms here. Expect beautifully dressed beds with pillows as long as your body and duvets as soft as a cloud. Air conditioning is swift (and necessary in this warm weather). There’s a ceiling fan if you want an extra boost. If you have an ocean-facing house, the sound of the waves crashing is quite unusual. While these do not have direct beach access, many appreciate them for the view of the waves. Beach villas have direct access to the sand.
On the terrace are cushioned day beds, a relaxing swing and a cabana ideal for dining or working in the breeze. The pools here are much larger than a standard plunge pool. The bathroom has separate rooms for the shower and toilet. It also has his and hers vanities, a chaise longue, makeup table and outdoor shower.
Each house has an external door that leads to a small patio with a second door that goes into the living quarters. It’s like your own private residence in the midst of tropical vegetation. Inside, an enormous foyer features a desk, bar area with minibar, wine fridge and coffee station. The walk-in closet adds ample space to unpack. It has extras like flip-flops to wear around the island and a souvenir beach bag to take home.
The most exotic is the two-bedroom pool residence, which books up quickly with families and couples traveling together. It consists of two magnificent structures connected by an outdoor pool and living space. The residence has its own 60-foot private beach behind closed doors. It also has a small kitchen, large dining area and duplex bedroom space.
The cuisine
Naladhu has its own dining room, The Living Room, which has a no-menu concept. Well, in reality, it does have a menu. But, it just a guide for some of the dishes the staff can prepare. In reality, the menu is unlimited. Guests can ask for whatever they want, whenever they want (breakfast is available 24 hours a day). Of course, certain things may require advance notice to have them available. There is no limit to what is possible (for those willing to foot the bill). Many want suggestions, and that’s exactly what the lengthy menu and talented culinary team are able to do.
One of the most romantic and exotic meals you can have here is the floating breakfast. A team of staff arrives with a bevy of delicious breakfast plates (from the menu you designed) at the time of your choosing. They set it up in the pool on a floating tray. You submerge yourself in the water to indulge in breakfast in the warm sun with a glass of Champagne. It’s a magical experience that you won’t find just anywhere.
Guests can dine underneath the main dining pavilion facing the pool and beach or beneath private canopies in the sand. Almost every evening, guests can be seen enjoying private beachfront barbecues. These are a signature of the resort with bespoke menus enjoyed around tiki torches tropical flowers.
Three resorts in one
Elsewhere in the resort complex are other dining options like Sea.Fire.Salt, an al fresco grill restaurant serving the freshest seafood, meat and pasta among other things. Aqua has fresh salads, pizza and sandwiches poolside. Both of these are at Anantara Dhigu, a quick water shuttle ride across the bay. Fushi Cafe there serves a decadent breakfast buffet facing the water offering Maldivian specialties. It also has sushi, Indian cuisine, smoothies and juices made to order, and other international dishes.
Baan Huraa is the Thai restaurant on stilts over the water serving fragrant and delicious food. It’s a guest favorite. Anantara Veli has a new small plate dining concept at Dhoni Bar poolside. Cumin serves breakfast and dinner with a menu that reflects the spices and flavors of the Indian Ocean. Origami is the Japanese restaurant serving freshly prepared sushi, izakaya menus and also teppanyaki-prepared dishes. There is so much variety that it’s hard to go hungry here.
Naladhu has its own beautiful beachfront pool and private stretch of sand, but of course guests can explore the other two resorts in the trio, too. On Naladhu island itself, guests can use the private fitness center overlooking the pool. Just beyond is the stretch of sand where guests can dip their toes into the azure water. Water sport options include fishing, dolphin or sunset cruises, snorkeling, scuba diving and fitness classes.
A treatment room is available at Naladhu for those that want spa services. Therapists can also bring massage tables to the private house There’s nothing better than listening to the sound of lapping waves while enjoying a massage on the terrace. This is also where the welcome massage for all guests take place, a 15-minute, neck-and-shoulder rub that alleviates the stress of long-haul flying. Guests can also use the impressive spa at Anantara Dhigu, which counts overwater villas among its treatment rooms.
Cooking classes and Anantara’s signature Dining by Design concept, where guests can choose where they want to eat (ask for a meal on a private island away from the main resort) and what they want, are also popular with guests. It’s the ultimate in romantic experiences.
The staff
Like the neighboring Anantara properties, there is something special about the staff here. And at Naladhu, it’s always a step above with name recognition and recollection of personal preferences (your favorite drink, the way you like your coffee, etc.) a hallmark.
Each house is attended to by a Kuwaanu, which means storyteller in the Maldivian Dhivehi language. The Kuwaanu is available at any hour via text or phone call and can organize anything from restaurant or spa reservations to onsite activities and personal needs anywhere around the island.
An onsite marine biologist helps to lead a variety of island efforts to reduce waste (eliminating single-use plastic entirely) and coordinate conservation programs. She can lead snorkeling tours of the area reefs, home to nearly 2,000 species of tropical fish and sea mammals. Her commendable efforts are helping the resort island lead the way in the overall destination’s efforts to be more sustainable to protect it for future generations.
The resort is also working with a third party to work toward reducing plastic waste and marine plastic pollution. She also leads educational talks for guests. There are educational walks around the island to learn about the natural life it has, too. Guests can also book private sessions with her to learn more about coral preservation.
If wellness is top of mind, guests can chat with the resort’s naturopath and nutritional wellness expert on hand. She can design a plan for their vacation (and when back home) on how to improve healthy living habits. This can include everything from sleep issues and digestive problems to weight management and blood sugar balance.
The location
One of the best features of this trio of properties is the ease of access to Male International Airport, the main gateway to the Maldives. Many resorts require taking an expensive sea plane flight, but Naladhu is in the South Malé Atoll, just a 30-minute speedboat ride from the international airport. Within an hour or so of landing, you could be on the arrival jetty of Naladhu where the staff are throwing rose petals before your feet as you walk to your vacation home.
While you don’t see or hear the international airport (it is still quite a distance from the resort), the hassle of not knowing when your departure is until 24 hours before you leave (sea plane flight schedules are announced just one day before departure) can be avoided here. And after a long flight from overseas, the last thing that jet-lagged travelers want is to be taken via bus to a separate sea plane terminal and have to wait for yet another (hot) flight to the next resort. The location here is paramount to a swift entry to vacation mode.
If you weren’t in love with the resort already, management decided to donate the old furniture following the renovation to the country’s only mental health hospital. This is the kind of place that makes you feel good before you get there, while in paradise and long after you’ve left.

Nebraska Vs. Indiana Live Updates Score, Results, Highlights, For Saturday’s NCAA Football Game – CBS Sports https://collincountynewsonline.com/nebraska-vs-indiana-live-updates-score-results-highlights-for-saturdays-ncaa-football-game-cbs-sports/
The Nebraska Cornhuskers have had a week off and are no doubt ready to get back on the field. The Cornhuskers and the Indiana Hoosiers will face off in a Big Ten battle at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday at Tom Osborne Field at Memorial Stadium. Neither team wants a repeat from their last game since each was dealt a considerable loss.
Nebraska suffered a bitter defeat two weeks ago, failing to capitalize on an early lead against the Oklahoma Sooners. Nebraska took a serious blow against Oklahoma, falling 49-14. Nebraska was in a tough position by the half, with the score already sitting at 35-7. No one had a standout game offensively for Nebraska, but they got scores from WR Trey Palmer and QB Chubba Purdy.
Meanwhile, IU was expected to have a tough go of it last week, and, well, they did. Things couldn’t have gone much worse for them as they lost 45-24 to the Cincinnati Bearcats. The Hoosiers were down 38-17 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from. Indiana’s loss came about despite a quality game from RB Shaun Shivers, who punched in one rushing touchdown in addition to snatching one receiving TD. Shivers hadn’t helped his team much against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers two weeks ago, so this was a nice turnaround for him.
The Cornhuskers are the favorite in this one, with an expected 5.5-point margin of victory. Neither team has fared well against the spread — they are 0-2, while IU are 0-3.
The losses put Nebraska at 1-3 and the Hoosiers at a reciprocal 3-1. Two stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: Nebraska ranks 12th in the nation when it comes to rushing touchdowns, with 12 on the season. But IU enters the matchup with only two rushing touchdowns allowed, good for 13th best in the nation. We’ll see if their defense can keep the Cornhuskers’ running backs out of the end zone.

Don’t Worry, Darling seems confused about which world is a natural order and which a dangerous lie imposed by force.
Olivia Wilde, Nick Kroll, and Chris Pine in ‘Don’t Worry, Darling’. (Warner Bros. via IMDb)
Warning: The following contains major spoilers for the film Don’t Worry, Darling (2022).
Jordan B. Peterson is in touch with his emotions. The emeritus professor of psychology first rose to internet stardom in a simpler time, when online clips of crazy left-wingers still just showed them throwing hissy fits on campus (not looting convenience stores en masse or burning cities to the ground). In the latest viral video, though, it’s Peterson himself who’s been reduced to tears.
Right near the end of a 45-minute interview this week, British journalist Piers Morgan asked Peterson about recent comments by actress-turned-director Olivia Wilde. Wilde’s latest film, Don’t Worry, Darling, features a charismatic villain portrayed by Chris Pine. In a recent Q&A about the movie, Wilde explained that she had “based that character on this insane man, Jordan Peterson, who is this pseudo-intellectual hero to the incel community.”
She described that community, further, as “disenfranchised, mostly white men, who believe they are entitled to sex from women…[who] believe that society has now robbed them—that the idea of feminism is working against nature, and that we must be put back into the correct place.”
Wilde continued: “But this guy Jordan Peterson is someone that legitimizes certain aspects of their movement because he’s a former professor, he’s an author, he wears a suit, so they feel like this is a real philosophy that should be taken seriously.”
“Is that you?” Morgan asked. “Are you the intellectual hero to these people?”
Peterson answered flatly: “Sure, why not? People have been after me for a long time because I’ve been speaking to disaffected young men. What a terrible thing to do that is.”
He took a long pause while fighting back tears, and then:
I thought the marginalized were supposed to have a voice…. It’s very difficult to understand how demoralized people are, and certainly many young men are in that category. And you get these casual insults—“these incels”—what does that mean? These men, they don’t know how to make themselves attractive to women, who are very picky—and good for them; women, be picky. That’s your gift, man. Demand high standards from your men. Fair enough. But all these men who are alienated…they’re lonesome, and they don’t know what to do. And everyone piles abuse on them.
I am not sure that “incels” as such really exist, but there is no doubt something very rotten in the way men and women interact today. Partly this is relational, a problem with the dynamics themselves; but it is also founded in the respective crises of men and women in the postmodern world, in misconceptions of identity and nature.
Peterson belongs to a peculiar class of intellectuals—present on the right for as long as it has existed—who recognize the root of social ills in the failure to find meaning, but fail to grasp (or even ask) what a recovery of such meaning would look like in substance and practice. Peterson in particular has always been focused on the structures and processes of meaning, dating back to his early academic works. And so the object of his later thought has been something like a reified order. But it is also a minimal order: not the reconfiguration of human society into conformity with divine law; just the moral imperative to clean your room.
Peterson, like Morgan, is a reactionary liberal: he hopes to restore some of the virtues of the premodern and early modern worlds without moving beyond or against the social and political arrangements of late modernity. If he wants to turn back the clock at all, it’s not by very much. When asked what he found admirable in England, he pointed to the common law, the tradition of free speech, and self-effacing humor.
Maybe he doesn’t have all the answers. (He doesn’t.) But what real harm has Jordan Peterson done?
If there is a genuine problem here, it’s hard to locate the fault with the professor. So it’s worth turning to Olivia Wilde—and to her very strange new film.
Don’t Worry, Darling has drawn unfavorable comparisons to Get Out, the 2017 Jordan Peele flick that set off the current craze over social-commentary horror. Don’t Worry, Darling at least has this going in its favor: it achieves some modest success in its efforts at atmospheric horror, whereas Get Out wound up laugh-out-loud funny every time it reached for a scare. Wilde’s film is especially clever in its use of sound to that effect.
But Get Out and its follow-ons have been bad not just because they fail to scare, and not just because they fail as stories, but because they are all remarkably heavy-handed, remarkably clunky works of far-left propaganda. On this front, Wilde outpaces the competition by a mile.
Don’t Worry, Darling broadcasts like the product of a very troubled mind. It follows happy, carefree housewife Alice (portrayed by Florence Pugh) as she begins to ask unwelcome questions about her cartoonishly idyllic setup. Alice lives with her husband, Jack (Harry Styles), in a midcentury company town called Victory, California. Victory is run by Frank—Chris Pine’s Peterson-esque villain—the brilliant but mysterious head of an unidentified enterprise. Every day, the men drive off in beautiful cars to work at Victory Headquarters. The women ride a trolley into town to shop, expensing everything to their husbands’ accounts. They return home to cook, clean, and take care of other business. Those who have kids welcome them home off the school bus every afternoon.
A series of events set off by Alice’s former friend Margaret, who lost her son in the desert beyond Victory and now seems to have lost her mind, causes Alice’s life to unravel. She draws first the attention and then the anger of the enigmatic Frank—who has Peterson’s charm, his habit of talking with his hands, a version of his soft Canadian English, and all the cunning brutality Wilde must imagine the professor to possess. He even speaks often, in a kind of lowbrow Peterson ripoff, of the need for men to choose order over chaos. Alice becomes his girlboss nemesis, intent on exposing the lie behind the seeming utopia of Victory.
Pugh had an impressive understated-horror turn in Ari Aster’s masterful Midsommar (2019), so she ought to have had the chops for this kind of role. As Alice, though, she fell flat—equal parts unconvincing and unlikable.
That wasn’t her fault. In the film’s third act, the reason for all the weirdness and inconsistency becomes clear: Wilde was building to a ridiculous final plot twist.
Victory is a simulation. In the real world, Alice was a successful surgeon. She even had a smartphone. Jack was her deadbeat husband, poorly dressed with a patchy beard, who spent his days at home listening to podcasts. One day, when Alice refused to have sex with Jack after a 30-hour shift, he knocked her out and placed her in the simulation against her will. Frank, we learn, operates this whole virtual reality; the other men are all like Jack, and the women (with at least one exception) are all prisoners like Alice. It is a less-than-subtle commentary on the domestic oppression women supposedly endured up through the middle of the twentieth century.
Perhaps the most remarkable thing about Wilde’s delusion is just how hackneyed it all is. Men are evil. Housewives are oppressed. The goods of family life are all illusory. This is no groundbreaking radicalism; it is what feminism always has been, and always will be.

But it’s also worth noting just how bleak is the vision of liberation Wilde offers: if only you could see beyond the veil of domesticity, you too could break into the world of 30-hour shifts and soul-crushing exhaustion. You, too, could find yourself tied to a sloppy bum—a man deprived of masculinity because he is deprived of a masculine society—who has all of the vices and none of the virtues of the men in the simulation. You, too, could live in a dark urban apartment instead of a beautiful suburban house. You, too, could hate your husband (who deserves it). You, too, could find yourself bizarrely mismatched, in one way or another, to every aspect of your life—disaffected, demoralized, and alienated, to use Peterson’s words.
The great irony here is that Wilde seems confused about which world is the natural state of men and women and which is a dangerous lie imposed by force.
In the end of Don’t Worry, Darling, Alice finds her way out of the illusion. We hear her, in the movie’s final moment, wake up and take one first, gasping breath in the real world. God willing, her creator may just one day do the same.
