How A Single Mom With A Teen Found A Housemate To Pay Rent – Los Angeles Times https://collincountynewsonline.com/how-a-single-mom-with-a-teen-found-a-housemate-to-pay-rent-los-angeles-times/ When Faith Blakeney, an interior designer known for her all-embracing, soulful interiors, first laid eyes on a charming Spanish rental in Culver City three years ago, the single mother was living with her daughter, Noa, in a 600-square-foot granny flat in Palms. “We lived in an attic,” clarifies Noa, now 16. “I had been dreaming of a house,” Blakeney recalls. “My boyfriend and I had been hunting for a house for a while. When I saw the turmeric-colored rental, I thought, ‘This is the house.’ I sat on the curb outside the house and prayed. I envisioned us in the house. I manifested the house. The neighbors must have thought I was crazy.” Faith Blakeney and her daughter, Noa, at home. (Mariah Tauger / Los Angeles Times) Her manifestation worked. After calling the homeowners and sending them a portfolio filled with photographs, their personal history — even their credit scores — Blakeney, 45, got the three-bedroom rental, even though it was a huge leap of faith, financially speaking. “For the first time in 10 years, I would have my own bedroom, a bathtub and a washer and dryer,” says Blakeney. The house also would allow her to set up her design studio in the two-car garage behind the house. Noa was excited to be able to have friends over. “I’d never had a yard before,” she says. “Our place was so small, my mom was sleeping on the floor.” “I slept in a niche off of the living room,” her mother elaborates. “It was incredibly charming. It wasn’t high enough for a bed so I put a mattress on the floor. It wasn’t as sad as it sounds. But yes, I slept there for 10 years.” Several months later, when Blakeney and her boyfriend “lovingly uncoupled,” the designer found herself in a difficult situation. “I was terrified,” she says. “Even sharing the rent with someone else, I was paying 2.5 times more rent than before. I knew that I needed to stay in the house for continuity for my daughter. But I also knew very clearly that I needed to find someone to help.” Interior designer Faith Blakeney inside her bedroom. (Mariah Tauger / Los Angeles Times) Blakeney had always wanted to experiment with communal living. She had grown up that way in Berkeley with her two siblings, including Justina Blakeney of Jungalow fame. “We always had family staying with us,” she says. “In my soul, I’m a kibbutznik: I get nurtured and nourished by having people around.” Even though it was unconventional, she was excited by the prospect of living with a housemate. She also was concerned. “I wasn’t going to accept anyone into the house,” she says. “That person was going to have to be special and accepting of moving in with me and my daughter.” For teenage Noa, her mother’s predicament was embarrassing. “None of her friends lived in a situation like this,” says Blakeney. Details inside the bedroom of interior designer Faith Blakeney, including a plant by the windowsill, left, and assorted colorful clothing, right, hanging in the hallway. (Mariah Tauger / Los Angeles Times) Blakeney cast a wide net, by reaching out to friends and posting on Spare Room, an online roommate-finding site. “I talked to several people and even had people approach me who were single parents,” she says. “Some men applied, and while I thought it might be nice to have some male energy in the house, I didn’t think that would work.” Many of the people who inquired were college-age students. “There are less people in our age range who are doing the housemate thing,” she says. “ A lot are put off by the stigma. It’s time to shake things up a bit!” After a mutual friend connected Blakeney with Sally Montana, a German-born photographer who splits her time between Los Angeles and New York, the two of them met over Skype and Blakeney offered her a virtual tour. Roommates and friends Sally Montana, left, and Faith Blakeney share a laugh. (Mariah Tauger / Los Angeles Times) “Sally literally showed up on our doorstep with two suitcases,” says Noa. “I’m so glad she did; she makes our house feel like home.” Despite the fact that both of them are fire signs, Blakeney and Montana are opposites. Blakeney is an extrovert. Montana is an introvert. Montana is a neatnik and Blakeney and Noa are … less so. While Blakeney likes to blast music and dance, Montana likes her time alone. As a student and assistant instructor with the Chinese Hawaiian Kenpo Academy in New York City, she can often be found practicing karate in the living room. Yet despite their differences, the creative freelancers have come to appreciate many of the same things: friends, family and Noa. Montana, who regularly practices karate in the living room, is a student and assistant instructor with the Chinese Hawaiian Kenpo Academy in New York City. (Mariah Tauger / Los Angeles Times) Asked if people questioned her decision to move in with a single mother and a 13-year-old, Montana admits she was nervous but has come to enjoy the co-housing dynamic. “I never wanted kids,” says Montana, 44. “But I’ve enjoyed having the slightest impact on Noa. I didn’t have a circle of women growing up. I wish I did.” Blakeney views their differences as an opportunity to grow and understand others. “If I had it my way, I’d start my day blasting music, dancing and talking loud on the phone. Instead, I wake up and I’m quiet. I put my headset on, I go on a walk and try to honor their vibe. It doesn’t always work. They have to be patient with me and honor my vibe too. It’s great practice for being out in the world: You’re not always going to be around people who are like you.” “Before, I used to hole up in my apartment,” Montana says. Now, she is more social and appreciates having people around. “When I came home from a business trip recently, people were in the backyard for a birthday party, laughing and having fun. There was leftover food. It was a nice feeling.” Likewise, Blakeney came home and heard laughing in the yard. “Sally was having a full moon bonfire … with my mother,” Blakeney says, laughing. “I feel like Faith’s parents adopted me,” adds Montana. “How could I not?” Blakeney’s mother, Ronnie, responds with a warm smile. Faith Blakeney, right, with design assistant Lena LaTour, has transformed the garage into a workspace. (Mariah Tauger / Los Angeles Times) It’s obvious from what you see in the home, which is nestled on a tree-lined street, that Blakeney is interested in creating a relaxed, lived-in bohemian vibe for herself and her family. The house is filled with art, colorful kantha throws, houseplants and vintage furnishings and accessories. The kitchen, which is also filled with art, stands out for its black-and-white checkered flooring, pink walls and a vintage brass pendant she found on the online vintage marketplace Chairish. The cozy chair in the living room, left, and the breakfast nook, right, colorfully decorated. (Mariah Tauger / Los Angeles Times) “I’ve always been a treasure hunter since I was very young,” Blakeney says. “My father used to take me to the auction house to buy furniture for our home, and our family home was full of antiques, and so through the years I’ve collected art and furniture. In our kitchen, we don’t have any new plates or silverware. They are all vintage. It’s a fun hodgepodge, and every time a glass breaks at a party, I consider it an opportunity to go search for new, more awesome cups. That’s how our whole house is. There is very little that is precious.” Darby Saxbe, director of the USC Center for the Changing Family, isn’t surprised to hear of the women’s living arrangement. “It’s a positive trend in my mind,” Saxbe says. “We are not built to live the kind of lonely, isolated lives that you so often see in a car-centric city like Los Angeles. Co-housing circles us back to earlier modes of living where we formed community bonds that can be interdependent and help with things like childcare.” Faith Blakeney and daughter Noa have some fun making a video at their home in Culver City. (Mariah Tauger / Los Angeles Times) “I think the pandemic was a wake-up call for a lot of people,” Saxbe continues. “When we were in lockdown, people felt even lonelier and it led them to take stock and be more mindful about building connections. Home prices and commuting have made us more isolated and separated.” (According to a recent report by the listing portal Rent, about half of the 100 most expensive cities for rent in the U.S. are in California.) Blakeney agrees. “I’ve lived in Berkeley, Italy, New York and Los Angeles, and one thing I learned during the pandemic is that people are really alone here,” she says. “People are isolated, and it’s ironic because we spend so much of our time and energy and money trying to live on our own. People want a house and don’t want to share their apartment. The next thing you know, you’re alone every day. You’re working your ass off to pay for it. I feel like we got it all wrong. And it’s costly to us. Not only financially, but to our mental health.” Now that the three women have fallen into a comfortable rhythm, the hardest part is deciding what’s next. Faith Blakeney, left, daughter Noa and roommate Sally Montana at their home in Culver City. (Mariah Tauger / Los Angeles Times) “At a certain point, Noa and I will grow out of this space, and I definitely see us moving out sooner than later,” says Blakeney, who is in a relationship. “I see this as a really beautiful moment and opportunity to have the kind of experimental co-living that I’ve always dreamt of. I’ve found I love it and it works. I can see exploring this kind of living situation in the future.” Montana sees herself splitting her time between Los Angeles and New York for a while. “When I’m here, this feels like home,” she says. “When I’m in New York, that feels like home.” For no...

However, we want to directly add value to the Singapore and Asia art scenes. We strongly believe that bespoke auction houses – like 33 Auction, have an important role to play in the development of a vibrant regional art ecosystem. After some consideration, we concluded that 33 Auction is an ideal partner to help us achieve our desired outcome.” Founded in 1999, 33 Auction is one of Singapore’s leading boutique auction houses in the Asian Contemporary Arts Scene with branches in Singapore, Indonesia and China. One of the more notable achievements saw 33 Auction selling Liu Kang’s Street Scene painting – Singapore Trengganu Street for more than 80% above the estimated price during the 2019 Singapore Art Week Auction. Liu Kang was a renowned Singaporean artist known for his Balinese-themed figurative painting and that auction helped set a record price of S$183,000 (US$128,873) for his paintings. Commenting on the collaboration with Coinllectibles, David Fu, the Director at 33 Auctions, said, “I am very intrigued with the idea of digital ownership tokens. As a director of an auction house, I can certainly see a lot of potential uses for it. One thing that caught my attention is how auction winners can immediately put the DOTs up for sale in NFT market places. If this works the way that it should, it will definitely make it easier for enthusiasts to collect arts and collectibles. In addition, it will give the whole art ecosystem access to new groups of young collectors – those who previously may not have considered investing in traditional arts and collectibles.” The inaugural arts and collectibles DOT auction by Coinllectibles & 33 Auction is a free event. However, attendees will be required to register in order to participate and bid during the auction. Shiba Inu Price Prediction As SHIB Trading Volume Blasts Past $100 Million Cryptonews
Shiba Inu Price Prediction As SHIB Trading Volume Blasts Past $100 Million Cryptonews
Shiba Inu Price Prediction As SHIB Trading Volume Blasts Past $100 Million – Cryptonews https://collincountynewsonline.com/shiba-inu-price-prediction-as-shib-trading-volume-blasts-past-100-million-cryptonews/ Shiba Inu price is in the process of validating a crucial bullish pattern, likely to send it up 16.25% from the breakout point to $0.00001208. As previously discussed, the second-largest meme coin rebounded after tagging support at $0.000000960.  Shiba Inu Price Eyes A 16% Move Amid A Trading Volume Blast Shiba Inu’s trading volume zoomed past the $100 million mark, brushing shoulders with $135 million over the last 24 hours. The surge in volume across exchanges comes just days after the tech giant Google announced support for SHIB payments following a strategic partnership with Coinbase. According to live price data from CoinMarketCap, SHIB’s trading volume is up 19.72%. Centralized exchanges (CEXs) account for $133 million of the volume, with decentralized exchanges (DEXs) bringing in only $2 million. Shiba Inu Price Prediction: Forecasting A Sustainable Bullish Move An inverse head-and-shoulders (H&S) pattern on the four-hour chart could be the motive behind the high trading volume. This highly bullish pattern often leads to a bullish trend reversal. The left shoulder (valley) appears first, followed by a longer valley (head), and the pattern matures with a second higher valley (shoulder). Traders usually look for long positions when trading this pattern. Its breakout target is the distance between the head and the neckline.   SHIB/USD four-hour chart Shiba Inu price is now trading slightly below the neckline resistance. A break above that same level is necessary to ascertain the validity of the trend. Meanwhile, the 50-day SMA (Simple Moving Average) is in line to give SHIB immediate support at $0.00001030. The MACD (Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) dons a buy signal on the same four-hour chart. In other words, a bullish outcome is looking likely based on these indicators. The MVRV (market value realized value), an on-chain metric by Santiment, shows that investors consider SHIB to be in a buy zone. An MVRV reading below the mean line (0.00) infers that the Shiba Inu price is undervalued. With that in mind, investors are unlikely to sell until the MVRV returns above the mean line. In other words, there is a higher probability that demand will increase, and SHIB will move north to validate a 16.25% breakout to $0.00001208.   Shiba Inu MVRV Ratio The bear market seems strong and far from over owing to the unhealthy global economic environment. Traders should consider booking early profits to avoid bull traps, especially when insight from the IOMAP model by IntoTheBlock is considered.   Shiba Inu IOMAP chart From the above chart, Shiba Inu price recovery could fade at $0.00001100. Approximately 23,200 addresses purchased 67.33 trillion SHIB tokens around this area. As the price recovers, these holders may sell to breakeven, which builds downward pressure.  Meme Coin Alternative: Tamadoge (TAMA) Given Shiba Inu’s large supply, holders will likely be waiting a long time for SHIB to hit $1 per coin.  An alternative project, Tamadoge has a 275,000x smaller circulating supply, meaning TAMA requires much less effort to reach $1 than other meme coins on the market, including even DOGE. Analysts believe that Tamadoge is still one of the best-positioned meme tokens on the market due to its popular NFT drops and upcoming Metaverse projects. Buy TAMA on OKX CEX Buy TAMA on OKX DEX

Global Leaders Commit US$ 2.6 Billion At World Health Summit To End Polio – World Health Organization https://collincountynewsonline.com/global-leaders-commit-us-2-6-billion-at-world-health-summit-to-end-polio-world-health-organization/ Today, global leaders confirmed US$ 2.6 billion in funding toward the Global Polio Eradication Initiative’s (GPEI) 2022-2026 Strategy to end polio at a pledging moment co-hosted by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) at the World Health Summit in Berlin. The funding will support global efforts to overcome the final hurdles to polio eradication, vaccinate 370 million children annually over the next five years and continue disease surveillance across 50 countries. “No place is safe until polio has been eradicated everywhere. As long as the virus still exists somewhere in the world, it can spread – including in our own country. We now have a realistic chance to eradicate polio completely, and we want to jointly seize that chance,” said Svenja Schulze, Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Germany. “Germany will remain a strong and committed partner in the global fight against polio. This year, it is providing EUR 35 million for this cause. And next year we plan to further strengthen our efforts and support GPEI with EUR 37 million – pending parliamentary approval. By supporting the GPEI, we are also strengthening national health systems. That leads to healthier societies, far beyond the polio response.” Wild poliovirus is endemic in just two countries – Pakistan and Afghanistan. However, after just six cases were recorded in 2021, 29 cases have been recorded so far this year, including a small number of new detections in southeast Africa linked to a strain originating in Pakistan. Additionally, outbreaks of cVDPV, variants of the poliovirus that can emerge in places where not enough people have been immunized, continue to spread across parts of Africa, Asia and Europe, with new outbreaks detected in the United States, Israel and the United Kingdom in recent months. “The new detections of polio this year in previously polio-free countries are a stark reminder that if we do not deliver our goal of ending polio everywhere, it may resurge globally,” said Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. “We are grateful for donors’ new and continued support for eradication, but there is further work to do to fully fund the 2022-2026 Strategy. We must remember the significant challenges we have overcome to get this far against polio, stay the course and finish the job once and for all.” At a challenging time for countries around the world, governments and partners have stepped forward to demonstrate their collective resolve to eradicate the second human disease ever. In addition to existing pledges, new commitments to the 2022-2026 Strategy this fall include: Australia pledged AU$ 43.55 million France pledged EUR 50 million Germany pledged EUR 72 million Japan pledged US$ 11 million Republic of Korea pledged KRW 4.5 billion Luxembourg pledged EUR 1.7 million Malta pledged EUR 30 000 Monaco pledged EUR 450 000 Spain pledged EUR 100 000 Turkey pledged US$ 20 000 United States pledged US$ 114 million Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation pledged US$S 1.2 billion Bloomberg Philanthropies pledged US$ 50 million Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of America pledged US$ 1.8 million Latter-day Saint Charities pledged US$ 400 000 Rotary International pledged US$ 150 million UNICEF pledged US$ 5 million The pledging moment in Berlin marked the first major opportunity to pledge support toward the US$ 4.8 billion needed to fully implement the 2022-2026 Strategy. If the Strategy is fully funded and eradication achieved, it is estimated that it would result in US$ 33.1 billion in health cost savings this century compared to the price of controlling outbreaks. Further, continued support for GPEI will enable it to deliver additional health services and immunizations alongside polio vaccines to underserved communities. “Children deserve to live in a polio-free world, but as we have seen this year with painful clarity, until we reach every community and vaccinate every child, the threat of polio will persist,” said UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell. “UNICEF is grateful for the generosity of our donors and the pledges made today, which will help us finish the job of eradicating polio.  When we invest in immunization and health systems, we are investing in a safer, healthier future for everyone, everywhere.” In addition to the funding for GPEI announced today, a group of more than 3 000 influential scientists, physicians, and public health experts from around the world released a declaration endorsing the 2022-2026 Strategy and calling on donors to stay committed to eradication and ensure GPEI is fully funded. The group points to new tactics contained in the program’s strategy, like the continued roll-out of the novel oral polio vaccine type 2 (nOPV2), that make them confident in GPEI’s ability to end polio. Five hundred million doses of nOPV2 have already been administered across 23 countries, and field data continue to show its promise as a tool to more sustainably stop outbreaks of type 2 cVDPV. The group further asserts that support for eradication significantly strengthens immunization systems and pandemic preparedness around the world—pointing to GPEI’s support for the COVID-19 response—and urges endemic and polio-affected country leadership to stay committed to expanded vaccination and disease surveillance activities. “Pakistan has made incredible progress against polio, but recent challenges have allowed the virus to persist,” says Dr. Zulfi Bhutta (Chair of Child Global Health, Hospital for Sick Children, Canada, and Distinguished University Professor, Aga Khan University, Pakistan). “Polio, like any virus, knows no borders; its continued transmission threatens children everywhere. Stopping this disease is not just urgently needed now, it’s within our grasp. That’s why I’ve joined more than three thousand health experts from around the world to launch the 2022 Scientific Declaration on Polio Eradication. With strong financial and political commitments, our long-awaited vision of a polio-free world can become a reality.” Additional quotes from the pledging moment Mark Suzman, CEO, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, said: “The question is not whether it’s possible to eradicate polio—it’s whether we can summon the will and the resources to finish the job. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is grateful to Germany, Rotarians, donors, countries, scientists, and partners who stood together today to show that we are united in this goal. We look forward to working together to create a polio-free future and build more equitable and resilient health systems for all.” Seth Berkley, CEO, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, said: “As we work together to stop the transmission of all polioviruses globally, we are more grateful than ever for the generosity of our donors, the leadership of governments and the mobilization of communities. Today’s pledges will support GPEI’s new strategy which correctly focuses on mass vaccination campaigns, concerted efforts by partners to strengthen essential immunization and integration with other critical health interventions and a further roll out of next-generation oral polio vaccines. These three measures combined are essential if we are to eradicate polio once and for all.” Franz Fayot, Minister for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs, Luxembourg, said: “Luxembourg is proud to be a longstanding supporter of global efforts to eradicate polio. Building on the remarkable progress achieved so far, Luxembourg will continue to support the fight against polio until we ensure the protection of every child.” Ian Riseley, Chair, Rotary Foundation, said: “While polio exists anywhere, it is a threat everywhere. This is an opportune moment for the global community to recommit to the goal and ensure the resources and political will are fully available to protect children from polio paralysis while building stronger health systems. That is why today, Rotary is reaffirming its commitment of an additional USD 150 million to the global effort to eradicate polio.” His Excellency Abdul Rahman Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention, United Arab Emirates, said: “Polio outbreaks this year have emphasized that polio anywhere is a threat to communities everywhere. While we are encouraged by steady progress in Pakistan and Afghanistan in the drive towards polio eradication, we know that there is a ways to go to finish the job. We also know that this progress would not have been possible without the courageous contributions of frontline health workers, who have remained steadfast in their commitment to protecting their communities from polio in the face of the pandemic, natural disasters and threats to their physical safety. Under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, we join our international partners in reiterating our commitment to a polio free world.” Notes for editors The Global Polio Eradication Initiative is a public-private partnership led by national governments with six core partners – Rotary International, the World Health Organization (WHO), the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), UNICEF, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. Diwali Season Leads To Rise In Flight Searches By 124% – CNBCTV18 https://collincountynewsonline.com/diwali-season-leads-to-rise-in-flight-searches-by-124-cnbctv18/ By CNBCTV18.com Oct 18, 2022, 01:37 PM IST (Published) Mini With the booming demand for travel, the airline and transportation industry, in general, is set to reap the most benefit, followed closely by the hospitality industry What better place to celebrate Diwali than in India? Almost all states of the country celebrate the festival of lights with pomp and splendour, with numerous lights, colours, treats, firecrackers and food. Whether you are travelling home for the festival or going on a vacation with your loved ones, you need to buckle up. Given the post-pandemic excitement, flight searches have risen by 124% and you might be startled to look at the tariffs. Background of the all-time high After a long wait and stringent travel restrictions, India and most of the world are witnessing free travel in 2022, which calls for a celebration in itself. During the pandemic, people have had increased social media exposure, which increased their eagerness to explore places during the festivals the city is known for. Added to it is the festive season, with Dussehra and Diwali close at hand, everyone wants to reunite with their dear ones and make memories. For those who wish to go on a vacation and explore Diwali in other parts of India, Jaipur, Kashmir, Ayodhya and Goa seem the ideal destinations. Hence, the air tickets, local transportation and accommodation costs are about 70% higher than last year, with excessive demand pouring in every single day. Dates with the highest fares The last date to book airfare at a reasonably higher cost is October 19, 2022, after which the fares are sure to skyrocket. Even now, a flight from Mumbai to Kochi has a starting price of INR 18,300, with a maximum of INR 20,000 (to and fro). With days passing by, the fares are only going to go upward. Other reasons for the surge We are in the last quarter of the calendar year, and this is the time for many businesses to start chalking out their business plan for the upcoming year. Since many companies are doing away with the work-from-home model, they mandate executives to come in person for conferences and meetings. Hence, business travels also increase during this time, adding to the mayhem. Aviation fuel price is also said to spike as a result of increased demand, which also is likely to contribute to the rising prices. Benefits reaped during the busy season With the booming demand for travel, the airline and transportation industry, in general, is set to reap the most benefit, followed closely by the hospitality industry. Elite resorts in Jaipur, Udaipur and Kashmir witnessed a 70-90% increase in enquiries and a constant stream of bookings since tourists are flocking to different places of India with their family and friends to make the most of the festival. Tips for travellers If you have not booked tickets yet, it is advisable to book the tickets and stay at the earliest. The prices are likely to increase unreasonably, and when they do, the best option is to opt for an alternative and proximate location to celebrate the festival. All public places will be heavily crowded, so it is not advisable to carry precious things during festive travel. Act quickly to save money and savour the beautiful festival with the ones close to your heart. (Edited by : Sudarsanan Mani)

VIETNAM BUSINESS NEWS OCTOBER 18 VietNamNet
VIETNAM BUSINESS NEWS OCTOBER 18 VietNamNet
VIETNAM BUSINESS NEWS OCTOBER 18 – VietNamNet https://collincountynewsonline.com/vietnam-business-news-october-18-vietnamnet/ Vietnam hopes to attract more capital from RoK Policies and orientations on attracting foreign investment, especially from Korean businesses, spotlighted a conference in the capital city of Hanoi on October 18. The latest data from the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) showed that the accumulated registered FDI capital from the RoK from 1988 to September 2022 reached more than 80.5 billion USD with more than 9,400 operating projects. In the first nine months of 2022, the RoK ranked second among 97 countries and territories investing in Vietnam with 290 projects, worth over 3.8 billion USD. Do Nhat Hoang, Director of the Foreign Investment Agency under the MPI, praised the effective contributions of Korean enterprises to Vietnam’s socio-economic development. Particularly, the country has seen a shift in capital flows from Korean investors in basic manufacturing to high-tech industries, energy, banking, financial and high quality services, and M&A. Hoang said he believed that the RoK maintains its position as Vietnam’s leading source of foreign investment. “In the next one to two years, the two countries can fully realise the “Dual Goals”, which aims at the milestone of 100 billion USD in bilateral trade turnover and total accumulated investment,” he said. Bae Yong Geun, Vice President of the Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Vietnam (KOCHAM), said that Vietnam, the epicentre of the Korean wave in Southeast Asia, is an important destination, and the countries have experienced the strongest cooperation in the world. At the event, Yoon Chang Woo, General Director of POSCO Vietnam, an enterprise with more than 30 years of investment in Vietnam, said that thanks to the support from the Government, the company was able to overcome difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic. Yoon suggested that southern provinces need to develop human resources and essential infrastructure. More Korean enterprises wish to invest in these provinces, but barriers in human resources and infrastructures might make them hesitate. For his part, Koen Soenens, General Sales and Marketing Director of DEEP C Industrial Zones, said DEEP C will continue to expand new industrial parks to welcome more large investors, and these new industrial parks will ensure sustainability standards like the current five parks. Entering Vietnam since 1997, DEEP C has been operating in the field of industrial park complex development. It is striving to a greener standard to be different, providing a sustainable and reliable investment location for customers is the goal of DEEP C. One-fifth of relief package disbursed for economic recovery The disbursement of the relief package for economic recovery and development had reached VND61 trillion as of September 30, accounting for 20.2% of the total budget of some VND350 trillion, according to the Ministry of Planning and Investment. Over VND3,544 billion was disbursed to support around five million workers to pay for their house rentals as of September 23, exceeding the target of four million people. Over VND10,704 billion was used for the preferential credit programs by the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies, supporting nearly 240,000 borrowers as of September 30. The disbursement of the financial aid package with an interest rate discount of two percentage points for businesses reached roughly VND29 billion. Regarding tax policies, nearly VND39,422 billion was disbursed to compensate for reduced value-added and environment protection taxes on fuels. Roughly VND7,400 billion was used for policies related to extending time limits for paying taxes and land rent. Vietnam footwear market to boom by 2031, value to rise double to US$38.7 bln The Vietnamese footwear market is anticipated to hit US$38.7 billion in value by 2031, doubling this year’s estimated figure of US$19.1 billion, according to market research firms. Vietnam currently ranks second in the world in terms of footwear exports, behind only China. About  one billion pairs of footwear are shipped overseas each year, with last year alone seeing footwear manufacturers rake in roughly US$20.78 billion from exports. The country is home to roughly 2,200 footwear manufacturing enterprises, mostly located in Ho Chi Minh City. It’s noteworthy that several major international brands such as Nike and Adidas have decided to base their main production facilities in Vietnam thanks the country’s political stability, attractive investment climate, and young and cheap labour.   At present, Nike boasts over 100 suppliers in the country, with 96 factories in the southern region, while Adidas has also chosen Vietnam its main production area. Despite the optimistic outlook, industry insiders note that the sector is still in the process of recovering as by the end of 2021 only 80% of workers returned to their jobs following the COVID-19 pandemic, a factor which has hindered production activities. Therefore, local businesses are anticipated to face fierce competition from other developing ASEAN countries, including Indonesia and Malaysia, both of which have a young and low-paid workforce. Data compiled by the Observatory of Economic Complexity (OEC) indicates that footwear was the country’s third largest export item in 2020, while its main footwear export markets were the United States (US$6.43 billion), China (US$2.24 billion), Germany (US$1.03 billion), Japan (US$953 million), and the Republic of Korea (US$730 million). The OEC noted that during the 2019 to 2020 period the fastest growing Vietnamese footwear export markets were China with turnover reaching US$272 million, Poland with US$25.6 million, and Taiwan (China) with US$22.6 million. Five energy projects suggested for national power plan removal The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) has proposed removing five thermal power plant projects from the National Power Development Plan VIII unless investors commit to arranging enough capital. In the document submitted to the government on October 13, the MoIT proposed removing the five thermal power projects from the PDP8 because investors are facing difficulties implementing them. The projects combine four with foreign capital, namely Song Hau 2, Nam Dinh 1, Vinh Tan 3, and Quang Trị 1, while Cong Thanh is funded by a local investor. The MoIT asked the investors of these projects to prepare a specific commitment from loaners to provide capital for them. The investors must submit these commitments attached with documents to the MoIT before October 30. This is an important basis for keeping these projects in the Power Master Plan. The five power plants: – The Vinh Tan 3 thermal power plant invested by Vietnam Electricity, Pacific Group, and OneEnergy Asia Ltd., a partnership of Hong Kong’s CLP Holdings and Japan’s Mitsubishi Group. – The Nam Dinh 1 thermal power plant invested by a consortium of Saudi Arabian ACWA Power and South Korean Taekwang Power Holdings Co., Ltd. – The Quang Tri 1 thermal power plant invested by EGAT International Co., Ltd. – The $3.5 billion Song Hau Coal-fired power plant II invested by Toyo Ink Group. – The Cong Thanh thermal power plant invested by the Cong Thanh Thermal Power JSC. Vietnam’s political, business environment stable: Russian newspaper The role and position of Vietnam in the world politics and economy was highlighted in an article published by Russia’s Independent newspaper on October 17.  In his article, Grigory Trofimchuk highly valued the role played by Vietnam in particular and ASEAN in general, in efforts to promote Russia’s “Look East” policy amid strong volatilities in the world. After Vietnam completed its role as a non-permanent member of the United Nations (UN) Security Council, it was immediately elected to the UN Human Rights Council for the 2023-2025 tenure, the article said.  According to Trofimchuk, Vietnam has a stable political and business environment, with many incentives and benefits for foreign investors, including those from Russia.  Russia needs to show clearer its role in solving problems in Asia-Pacific, and Southeast Asia in particular, in the process of “turning to the East”, the article stressed, adding that Vietnam is a potential partner for this scheme. Mechanisms needed for enterprises to join national science-technology programmes Mechanisms are needed for businesses to strongly participate in national science and technology programmes together with state research institutions, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has said. Dam made the recommendation at a conference held in Hanoi on October 17 by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) to launch national sci-tech programmes for 2021-2025. The Deputy PM requested enhancing publicity, transparency and accountability in scientific research activities. In the time to come, he asked the ministry to accelerate the implementation of the national science and technology programmes for the 2021-2025 period and ensure their quality in compliance with regulations. The MOST also needs to organise strong research groups for these programmes, and gradually handle management and financial issues in the sector, the Deputy PM added. Regarding the humanity and social sciences, Dam requested related research programmes to give specific recommendations and promote research on culture. At the conference, Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat said the ministry has restructured the national science and technology programmes for 2021-2025 with a vision to 2030. Metas Horizon Worlds Is Shrinking Jeopardizing Its Metaverse Ambitions Protocol
Metas Horizon Worlds Is Shrinking Jeopardizing Its Metaverse Ambitions Protocol
Meta’s Horizon Worlds Is Shrinking, Jeopardizing Its Metaverse Ambitions – Protocol https://collincountynewsonline.com/metas-horizon-worlds-is-shrinking-jeopardizing-its-metaverse-ambitions-protocol/ Hello, and welcome to Protocol Entertainment, your guide to the business of the gaming and media industries. This Tuesday, we’re looking at Meta’s struggles to grow its Horizon Worlds platform, and what that says about its social-first push to sell mainstream consumers on VR and the metaverse. Also: a key endorsement for the Activision Blizzard deal and the voice acting controversy engulfing Nintendo’s Bayonetta 3. ‘An empty world is a sad world’ Meta, a company known for scaling social products to billions of users at breakneck speed, is facing a serious, expensive, and increasingly existential challenge in growing its nascent metaverse platform, Horizon Worlds. The platform, currently a VR-only app, reported 300,000 monthly active users in February of this year. According to a new report from The Wall Street Journal, however, that number is shrinking. While Meta set out in 2022 to grow the platform to more than half a million people, it has sunk to below 200,000 monthly users. In Horizon’s struggles lies a central hurdle for Meta: What if Mark Zuckerberg’s metaverse flops? Horizon isn’t sticky enough. Unlike other social networks, which rely on the dopamine rush of likes, comments, and algorithmic recommendations, Horizon Worlds is a VR playground that requires you to hang out with friends and strangers alike with a computer strapped to your face. The problem is that most people just don’t stick around. The WSJ’s report said most users stop logging back into Horizon after the first month, and only 9% of user-generated worlds are ever visited by more than 50 people. “An empty world is a sad world,” read an internal document on Horizon’s population problem. The report also states that more than half of all Quest headsets sold end up unused after six months. Not even the employees building the platform seem eager to use it. The Verge reported earlier this month that Metaverse VP Vishal Shah put the platform into a “quality lockdown” to squash bugs and improve the user experience while new features would be put on ice. Shah encouraged more employees in a company memo to use Horizon to help improve it: “The simple truth is, if we don’t love it, how can we expect our users to love it?” “Everyone in this organization should make it their mission to fall in love with Horizon Worlds. You can’t do that without using it,” Shah added in a second memo. “We are working on a product that has not found product market fit. If you are on Horizon, I need you to fully embrace ambiguity and change.” Meta is gambling on a social-first vision. While most VR today revolves around gaming, Zuckerberg is pitching a version of the metaverse that’s immersive, social, and tethered to the real world, including people’s social and work lives. This comes with risks: What if only a limited number of people want to work with a VR headset on or socialize with friends or co-workers as cartoon avatars? “Back when we started working on this, we believed that over time social experiences would become the main way people would use VR. That’s coming true. Today the top apps in the Quest store are social metaverse apps,” Zuckerberg said during the Connect keynote. “For the first time, we can build technology centered around people and how we actually experience the world,” Zuckerberg added. “That’s why the metaverse is first-person. Right? You feel like you’re actually in it.” This sounds compelling on paper, but the social experiences most people want to engage in right now are not social networks or VR versions of Microsoft software. They’re video games like Fortnite, Roblox, and Minecraft, none of which needed VR or productivity add-ons to grow. Meta is banking on Horizon Worlds’ success. The company continues to buy VR game developers, including three new purchases announced last week, and operates a Roblox-like platform called Crayta. But Horizon Worlds is supposed to be Meta’s proof that social VR is the killer app of the metaverse. So far, it’s failing. The app has drawn criticism for its poor graphics and rudimentary avatars. Meta is planning to revamp the visuals and has showcased new, more realistic avatar designs. But at Meta Connect, when Zuckerberg announced that Horizon avatars would finally feature legs (instead of floating torsos) and realistic locomotion, the company had to quietly clarify after the fact that it used “animations created from motion capture.” Legs, it seems, are still in the oven. A big hurdle for Horizon right now is that it requires a Quest headset, and Meta has seemingly given up on its strategy of subsidizing affordable VR to help maintain mainstream adoption. (Mobile and browser versions of Horizon are still on the way.) Meta raised the price of the Quest 2 earlier this year in response to the economic downturn. Last week Meta announced a $1,500 Quest Pro supposedly catering to “prosumer” customers who want to experiment with VR productivity apps, including a suite of Microsoft app integrations teased last week at Connect. This is all starting to cost Meta a lot of money. The company’s stock price is down 60% this year. Over the past two quarters, Meta has incurred nearly $6 billion in losses on its Reality Labs division, with tens of billions more spending planned for the years ahead. Horizon Worlds in many ways feels like a microcosm of Meta’s struggle to build the metaverse. It’s an ambitious product that can at times evoke profound social experiences, but it is also trying too much too early. The New York Times’ Kashmir Hill wrote this month that her extensive use of the app helped her meet a diverse cast of strangers from all over the world, but she also compared the experience to “surfing AOL chat rooms in the 1990s.” Is the platform a video game, a social network, both? Does it really need VR, or can it gain traction as a mobile app or desktop website? Meta doesn’t really know what Horizon Worlds is yet, just like it doesn’t know exactly what the metaverse will look like, who might build it, or what we’ll all want to do in there. Zuckerberg says he has a pretty good idea as to the answers, but so far, he’s missing the mark. — Nick Statt A MESSAGE FROM GOALS HOUSE It’s becoming increasingly appreciated among the broader business and NGO community that the planet and people elements of sustainability are mutually dependent, and as such a focus on one at the exclusion of the other will be fruitless. But balancing profit and sustainability progress remains a more thorny debate. Learn more Overheard “We’re certainly of the belief that it’s a good thing for Microsoft and for the industry. We’re in favor … It’s a highly fragmented business and there’s plenty of room for creativity to go around. Microsoft is an ally of ours, and if this makes their business more powerful, we think that’s good for us.” — Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Grand Theft Auto publisher Take-Two Interactive, endorsed Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, which is now facing intense regulatory scrutiny, in an interview last week with The Wrap. “Mobile is a great place to have a successful game. At the core of it, what I wanted to do was make a game I really wanted to play. I had just become a father. My son was born basically the day Hearthstone was released and I found that it was much easier for me to play mobile games. So I wanted to build something that I would be able to play more often.” — Ben Brode, the game director for Blizzard’s Hearthstone, spoke to The Washington Post about working with Marvel on the free-to-play mobile game Marvel Snap with his new studio, Second Dinner. Apple’s headset is supposed to have an iris-scanning feature. The still-unannounced device could use biometrics for authentication; a new report from The Information claims Apple’s design will also conceal outward-facing cameras. Activision Blizzard faces another sexual harassment lawsuit. Cryptoverse: Flurry Of Funds Bet On Bruised Bitcoin’s Allure – Dunya News https://collincountynewsonline.com/cryptoverse-flurry-of-funds-bet-on-bruised-bitcoins-allure-dunya-news/ Technology Cryptoverse: Flurry of funds bet on bruised bitcoin’s allure Investment firms have unleashed a flurry of exchange-traded funds. (Reuters) – A growing number of funds are betting on the long-term appeal of bitcoin and ether, a gritty gambit in the depths of a crypto winter. Unfazed by a collapse in prices over the past 11 months, investment firms have unleashed a flurry of exchange-traded funds, anticipating that elite cryptocurrencies and their underlying technology will eventually prevail. Of more than 180 total active crypto exchange traded products (ETPs) and trust products globally, half have launched since the bitcoin bear market started, Morgan Stanley said in a note published this month. The proliferation came even as the total value of assets in the market slumped 70% to $24 billion in that period as crypto prices tanked. About 95% of those 180 funds are focused on the top two coins, bitcoin and ether, Morgan Stanley said. “Naturally when the market is slower, prices are lower, people have lost money, the intensity of the appetite does diminish,” said Chen Arad, co-founder of crypto risk monitoring firm Solidus Labs. “But it’s not the case in the long run. As a whole, I don’t think anyone is giving up.” The attraction of ETPs is that they provide exposure to digital assets on a regulated stock exchange, so retail and institutional investors don’t have to worry about securely storing their crypto and eluding hacks and heists. In terms of money, cryptocurrency investment products have attracted about $453 million in net inflows this year with much of it going into bitcoin and investment vehicles that include the biggest cryptocurrencies, according to a report from digital asset manager Coinshares. “There is more asset allocation towards baskets that combine the top five or 10 crypto assets by market cap. It’s a flight to quality compared to alternative assets in the crypto industry,” said Eliezer Ndinga, director of research at 21shares. Other major cryptocurrencies include solana , cardano and ripple . TICK BY TICK Most active crypto ETP products are registered outside the United States, though, with Switzerland, Canada, Australia and Brazil racing ahead with spot crypto offerings. One reason is that U.S. regulators have turned down several applications for spot bitcoin funds, which mirror the cryptocurrency’s price movements tick-by-tick, citing multiple reasons including a lack of surveillance-sharing agreements with regulated markets relating to the spot funds’ underlying assets. Investors in futures-based funds must often shoulder the additional cost of the futures rollover as contracts approach settlement day, to maintain their position. Bitcoin has lost 17% in the past three months, while ProShares Bitcoin Strategy’s ETF , which tracks bitcoin futures, has shed about 21%. The world’s largest bitcoin fund, Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC.PK), is down 34% in the same time. ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF, has seen assets under management (AUM) shrink to just over $600 million as of the end of September, according to Refinitiv Lipper data. At its debut a year ago it pulled in over $1 billion in a matter of days. At Grayscale’s Bitcoin Trust, the AUM have tumbled to $12.2 billion from over $30 billion at the end of 2021, data from the firm showed. Will Peck, head of digital assets at WisdomTree, whose spot bitcoin ETF was blocked by U.S. watchdogs last week, said he wasn’t surprised by the decision, but expressed hope that an agreement could be reached. “I think we’ll ultimately get there. But we’ll be in a holding pattern for the foreseeable future.” ‘ ; var i = Math.floor(r_text.length * Math.random()); document.write(r_text[i]);

Letters To The Editor — Elm Thicket, Davis, Self, Democracy, Road Rage, Rangers – The Dallas Morning News https://collincountynewsonline.com/letters-to-the-editor-elm-thicket-davis-self-democracy-road-rage-rangers-the-dallas-morning-news/ Beware unintended consequences Re: “Officials approve new zoning for area near Love Field,” Thursday Metro & Business story. Here’s an idea: Let’s pretend it’s 1945 and force new homes to be built in the same style and scale of that bygone era. That’s effectively what happened when the Dallas City Council voted to impose “neighborhood stabilization” restrictions on a diverse community of 2,000 homes in Elm Thicket-Northpark. No other neighborhood in the city of Dallas operates under this restrictive zoning, and it will not take long to see the devastating impact these misguided changes will inflict. Developers will simply stop building. Property values will plunge, and the Dallas tax base will also take a hit. Notably, many of the speakers who addressed the council in favor of the restrictions do not even live in the neighborhood. They represent outside groups advocating for “affordable housing” and “displaced peoples.” If the council feels duty-bound to change the development rules halfway through the game to ensure equity, they need to impose those same noble restrictions on Bishop Arts, Uptown, Fair Park and every other neighborhood where economic forces result in a cleaner, safer, more modern neighborhood. That’s called gentrification, and we can’t have that. Stephen James, Dallas/Elm Thicket Sign off, Mark Davis Re: “Radio host’s ties to swindler costly,” by Dave Lieber, The Watchdog Column, Sunday Metro. Thanks to Lieber, we have learned the radio station that markets itself as The Answer, KSKY, has not always provided the truth to its listeners, especially through one of its marquee talk show hosts, Mark Davis. Based on Davis’ contributory role in the Ponzi scheme promulgated by “Doc” Gallagher over the KSKY airwaves, which bilked senior citizens out of millions of dollars, he lost all credibility and whatever integrity he might have had at one time. As a talk show host, Davis used his conservative credentials on the air to influence his listeners to participate in a shameless shell game that cost some of his listeners their life savings. Davis should retire from the radio airwaves in shame. He has shown us that under his veneer of a patriotic, rock-solid-conservative, religious family man is a core of greed and deception. Tony Torres, Garland Berlin Wall bluster Re: “No recommendation in the race for Texas’ 3rd Congressional District,” Friday Editorials. Keith Self, former Collin County judge and current candidate for Texas’ 3rd Congressional District, declared: “Walls work. They worked in Berlin.” Problem is, the Berlin Wall was built by East Germany to keep its citizens from immigrating out of East Germany, not outsiders from coming into East Germany. Based upon his military service, especially in NATO, Self should know that. Maybe he does but doesn’t care? As a former member of the Berlin Brigade, I find Self’s apparent ignorance appalling and indicative of his desire to support his ideology regardless of the facts. Many Germans lost their lives trying to cross that wall to freedom. Their sacrifices do not deserve to be insulted by Self. M.J. Moore, Dallas Democracy is fragile Our nation is in turmoil. The Jan. 6 hearings last week were a startling look at the fragility of our country. We came here as immigrants, envisioning America as the pillar of democracy, the bold experiment where dreams come to fruition. The country that embraces our differences. The role model for the world on free and fair elections. We came here because it was the most powerful country in the world, a safe haven from injustices. We invested in its ideals and the promises it gave us. Last week, I sat with my 90-year-old dad, who has been here for 45 years, watching the hearings in disbelief. He says to me, ”This is not the country we came to.” It saddens me to see support for candidates who call the Jan. 6 insurrection a peaceful protest and continue to deny the validity of free and fair elections. Our democracy is fragile. Please vote this November for people, regardless of party, who support the pillars of our democracy. Vote for those who believe in upholding our promise to future generations that we will be the torch for the world’s strongest democracy. Vote for those who support fair elections and a commitment to an inclusive country. Chanda Parbhoo, Dallas Daily doses of road rage Re: “Road rage on the rise,” Sunday Metro story. This article on increasing road rage incidents hit home. I see daily incidents of very impatient drivers. And why does it always seem to be drivers in large pickups? Granted, I’m an old driver and tend not to exceed the speed limit, but I can’t understand why someone has to pass me when I’m coasting up to a red light, only to have to slam on their brakes to stop. The sentence “The only behavior we can control is our own” rings true. I can only hope some of those aggressive drivers will read this story. Harry Bomberger, Flower Mound Rangers strike out on TV Re: “Rangers must try a different approach,” by Evan Grant, Thursday SportsDay. A simple reason why Rangers baseball attendance is down: limited TV. Marketing in sports is just as important as it is to Coca-Cola and McDonald’s. I had season tickets to the Rangers once upon a time, but I saw only two games this year by going to the ballpark. It’s impossible to get interested in teams when you never can see them. Someone should do a study on how much it would cost to subscribe to all the services necessary to see the Rangers, Mavericks, football, hockey, golf and other sports. Maybe $1,000 a year? Insane. It will be a freezing day in hell when I pay Jeff Bezos to watch an NFL game. Larry Huddleston, Cedar Hill We welcome your thoughts in a letter to the editor. Boston made a couple of big moves this past summer, acquiring Malcolm Brogdon and Danilo Gallinari to improve its depth. Unfortunately for the Celtics, they quickly lost Gallinari to a torn left ACL, then learned Robert Williams III would have to undergo surgery on his left knee. As if those losses didn’t present enough of a challenge, Boston will also have to move forward without head coach Ime Udoka, who was suspended for violating organizational guidelines. The 45-year-old will be away from the team for the entire season, and it’s unclear if he will ever return to the bench. The Celtics’ opening night opponent, the 76ers, had a much more quiet offseason. They re-signed James Harden at a discount and added solid role players like P.J. Tucker, De’Anthony Melton and Danuel House Jr. With Joel Embiid once again leading the way, Philadelphia will be looking to dethrone Boston in the Eastern Conference. Introduction To The Metaverse: From Sci-Fi To A 5-Trillion-Dollar Industry Hospitality Net
Introduction To The Metaverse: From Sci-Fi To A 5-Trillion-Dollar Industry Hospitality Net
Introduction To The Metaverse: From Sci-Fi To A 5-Trillion-Dollar Industry – Hospitality Net https://collincountynewsonline.com/introduction-to-the-metaverse-from-sci-fi-to-a-5-trillion-dollar-industry-hospitality-net/ A recent report by McKinsey indicates that the metaverse’s economic potential could be up to five trillion dollars by 2030. However, while most people think the metaverse concept only started with Zuckerberg’s rebrand, innovators and visionaries have been flirting with the idea since the ’80s, first in the minds of cyberpunk novelists (such as Gibson, Vinge, or Stephenson), then in the ones of scientists and philosophers (Gelernter, Chalmers), and, eventually, technocapitalists. However, outside of the inner circle of the “usual suspects,” metaverse was a pretty esoteric term before 2021 (as this Google Trends proves: https://trends.google.it/trends/explore?date=all&q=metaverse). So how has a dystopian novel turned into a trillion-dollar industry almost overnight? The concept of the “Metaverse” has existed since the 80s, and Full Fledged Metaverses like ‘The Sandbox’ and ‘Decentraland’ have been there since 2012 and 2017 alongside Axie Infinity (2018) and of course the oldest mainstream name amongst the bunch Roblox which officially launched in 2006. Many factors have aided in the so called “over-night rise” into spotlight. But in order to understand this Rise, and as is the case with many technologies preceding the Metaverse, one should first understand the chain of events that helped pave the way.  Gartner states that emerging technologies for 2022 fall under three main themes: I think various fields have been doing a lot of research for years in AR/VR, and the idea of the Metaverse gives them a great mass adoption use case.  I think the recent pandemic played a significant role in pushing the idea of metaverse from dystopian into reality. The nonexistence of physical activities during the worldwide lockdown has made people see any digital forms as an essential alternative. This is obviously seen as a massive opportunity for content creators and tech companies to create a new emerging market, and blockchain technology has come at the right time to “formalize” the use of digital assets! Up to this date, the word Metaverse is still undefined to perfection. As Snap CEO Evan Spiegel said, the concept of Metaverse is “Ambiguous and hypothetical”. To be fair, we have been talking about Metaverse more than we know, we just have been calling it different (3D platform, videogames, virtual reality, amongs others). Now there’s something that we didn’t have before, someone with top-notch influence and vision that wants to destinate economical and human resources into expanding what we already have, and the technology, though not there already, is improving and taking huge steps making us come closer to the Stephenson’s idea of Metaverse. Want an exciting future we have ahead of us.  The metaverse is the inevitable culmination of a series of paradigm changing breakthroughs in technology and computer science, namely artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data and blockchain. The integration of all that innovation together results in not only experiental, multi sensory and multi dimensional experiences but also endless value accretive business opportunities. For me the question is not what will the metaverse be, but rather what won’t the metaverse touch in the future? It’s difficult to imagine any part of life or society that won’t be touched by these innovations. It is all just part of the relentless progress forward.  The exponential growth and increasing momentum of the Metaverse can not go unnoticed. Businesses across different industries are exploring the best practices and use cases of the Metaverse. Governments are investing billions of dollars in the Metaverse. During the Metaverse Assembly this week in Dubai an official from the UAE stated that as we are currently measuring the GDP, in the future we will be measuring the “GMP” Growth Metaverse Product for countries and economies. Sergio Schemeil Metaverse creator specialized in Meta Horizon Worlds platform Without a doubt, since Zuckerberg renamed Facebook ‘Meta Platforms Inc.’, rebranding it as a “Metaverse company”, the mainstream hasn’t stopped talking about it. Although the Metaverse is brand and device agnostic, Meta is playing a significant role in the industry; challenging the existing preconceptions of what we associate with the word Metaverse, which encompasses many trillion-dollar industries in the digital and physical world. I started working within Virtual Worlds in 2019 , it was all very new to me at the time and I stumbled on it whilst I was in India working on a hospitality project. Mattia Papa Web3 Island Makers DAO Co-Founder & Community Lead | New Governance Systems Pioneer One of the factors that has contributed the most to such a surge of interest in the Metaverse is the development of enabling technology.  Let’s start by stating that I am not a big fan of the term “metaverse”. As probably everybody knows by now, the word comes from a dystopian cyberpunk novel filled with Mafia, drug dealers, mercenaries, and economic collapse. Not really the rainbows, butterflies, and unicorns virtual world narrative some anarcho-capitalists are trying to feed us.  It is extremely interesting to observe how innovations that until a few decades ago were considered pure fantasy have become in recent years become reality. Of all of them, the impact that the Metaverse has had on our society is astounding. This ‘new’ digital universe allows us to realise how the need to escape is taking shape in a reality. Anyway, we have to recognize that it is still far from mass adoption. In order to answer the question, I need to clarify a few points. I see the (M)etaverse as an extension of the real world into multiple interoperable virtual worlds or (m)etaverses (I use uppercase “M” and lower case “m” in purpose). The Metaverse in travel and hospitality is all about amplifying the IRL (In Real Life) guest and passenger experience vs replacing it. The key impact and strategic focus should primarily be providing an immersive, engaging and sustainable path for travel and hospitality entities to, soon seamlessly enable guests, passengers and customers the ability to engage with experiences, pre – present and post -their travel and stay.

Top 7 Best Crypto Futures Trading Platforms In 2022 Cryptonews
Top 7 Best Crypto Futures Trading Platforms In 2022 Cryptonews
Top 7 Best Crypto Futures Trading Platforms In 2022 – Cryptonews https://collincountynewsonline.com/top-7-best-crypto-futures-trading-platforms-in-2022-cryptonews/ Crypto futures offer traders and investors an excellent way to trade digital assets. To increase your chances of generating a profit in the crypto futures market, choosing a secure and liquid crypto futures trading platform is essential.  Read on to discover a list of the best crypto futures trading platforms. What Are Crypto Futures?  Crypto futures are derivatives contracts with which traders can speculate on the future price of an underlying cryptocurrency. This way, investors can gain exposure to cryptocurrencies without having to actually hold them.  In simple terms, when investors trade bitcoin futures contracts, they are speculating on bitcoin’s future price. Essentially, there are two parties that make a wager. One party believes the price of bitcoin will rise in the future, while the other party bets on the price of bitcoin to decline. The party that loses the wager pays the winner the difference. This is part of the futures contract both parties have signed when entering it.  Crypto futures contracts have a specific number of units, pricing criteria, marginal requirements, and modes of settlement that investors have to take into account. Depending on prevailing crypto market conditions, an investor can choose to hold a futures contract, roll it over, or sell it to another party.  Top Crypto Futures Trading Platform To start trading in crypto futures, you will have to set up an account on a crypto derivatives trading platform. Let’s take a look at the most popular ones based on trading volumes. Binance Binance is the world’s largest crypto exchange, with an average daily trading volume of $76 billion and over 120 million registered users. The crypto exchange was co-founded in 2017 by Changpeng Zhao and Yi He. The trading platform supports over 350 digital assets and lets users buy and sell across thousands of trading pairs. Binance Futures is the crypto derivatives branch of the Binance exchange. Since its introduction in late 2019, it has become the go-to platform for retail users due to its range of innovative products, simple user interface, and seamless trading experience for users.  Binance offers one of the best choices for investors looking to trade crypto futures, as it supports a multitude of crypto assets combined with deep liquidity. In its entirety, Binance Futures provides access to four product categories: USD-Margined Futures Contracts, Coin Managed Futures Contracts, Binance Leveraged Tokens, and Binance Options. Additionally, Binance Futures offers traders a 10% discount on standard trading fees if they use BNB to pay for trading fees on the derivatives exchange. To enjoy this discount, you will have to transfer BNB from your spot wallet to your futures wallet.   FTX FTX is a Bahamas-based crypto derivatives trading platform. Co-founded in 2019 by Bankman-Fried and Gary Wang, the platform aims to be a leading avenue for crypto traders. FTX supports 300+ crypto assets at the time of writing, while the platform has a total trading volume of over $12 billion. In addition, FTX offers 250+ perpetual and quarterly futures markets. FTX quarterly futures are suitable for traders who want to hold a position for a longer time. On the other hand, perpetual futures are great for trades a trader expects to close soon. Due to funding payments, their pricing mirror BTC prices closely, almost resembling trading spot.  KuCoin KuCoin is a crypto exchange that claims to offer technology-driven products and is built around the KuCoin token (KCS). The crypto exchange was founded in 2017 by Michael Gan, a software engineer who wanted to build a platform that was simple for users to navigate and offers innovative products, offering over 700 tradable assets.  KuCoin Futures offers several of trading products, like futures contracts with a cash settlement. The contracts are divided into perpetual contracts and delivery contracts.  Perpetual contracts are settled after every 8-hour window, while delivery contracts are settled on a specific date. The futures contracts are grouped based on the settlement coins used into USDT-margined and COIN-margined contracts.  OKX OKX is a Seychelles-based crypto exchange and wallet provider. The platform offers crypto derivatives like margin trading, perpetual swaps, options, and of course, futures. Formerly known as OKEX, the crypto exchange was founded in 2013 by Mingxing “Star” Xu, a Chinese entrepreneur.  OKX operates in over 100 countries and lists 350+ digital assets and almost double the number in trading pairs. OKX supports the trading of futures contracts for 13 crypto assets.  The exchange offers two groups of futures contracts, namely, crypto-margined futures and USDT-margined futures. Crypto-margined futures are settled in the underlying cryptocurrency, while USDT-margined futures are settled in USDT.  Each futures contract offered by OKX is named according to the assets that are being traded, the settlement date, and the period it is traded for. The options available for investors include weekly, fortnight, quarterly and bi-quarterly. Futures contracts are settled every Friday at 8 AM UTC.  Huobi Global Huobi Global is a crypto exchange and derivative trading platform. Huobi Global supports 500+ digital assets on its platform and is available in over 100 countries. Huobi Global was founded in 2013 by Leon Li in Beijing, a former computer engineer at Oracle. Huobi Futures offers investors and traders three types of product categories: USDT-margined contracts, coin-margined contracts, and options.  USDT-margined contracts are quoted and settled in USDT, while coin-margined contracts derive their value from the underlying cryptocurrency.  Gate.io Gate.io is a leading crypto exchange that supports over 1,400 digital assets and has over $12 billion in daily trading volumes. The crypto exchange was founded in 2013 by its current CEO, Lin Han, a software engineer, who aimed to create a secure trading platform for bitcoin enthusiasts.  Gate.io offers three types of futures contracts: perpetual contracts, delivery contracts, and quantitative strategy contracts.  Bybit Bybit is a crypto derivatives platform that offers a professional platform with advanced matching capabilities, multilingual support, and quality customer service. The platform was founded in 2018 by Ben Zhou and is based in Singapore. Bybit serves more than 10 million users worldwide who can access over 100 assets and contracts across crypto derivatives like futures.  Bybit offers several futures contracts, including USDT Perpetuals – Perpetual contracts that use USDT as collateral, Inverse Perpetual and Futures – Perpetual and futures contracts that use the underlying cryptocurrency as collateral, and USDC Perpetuals – Perpetual contracts that use USDC as collateral. The Takeaway Today’s leading crypto futures exchanges enable anyone with sufficient trading experience and capital to access the global crypto derivatives market in a secure and user-friendly manner.  If you are new to crypto trading, however, remember that futures trading involves leverage (resulting in higher risk than spot trading), and there are nuances to each futures contract. So make sure you know exactly what you are trading before you place your first crypto futures trade. And, of course, never risk more money than you can afford to lose!

Russia Hits Infrastructure Targets Across Ukraine, Targets Power And Water – Reuters https://collincountynewsonline.com/russia-hits-infrastructure-targets-across-ukraine-targets-power-and-water-reuters/ Three blasts hit port of Mykolaiv – witness City of Zhytomyr left without power, water Blasts heard in Kyiv, other cities hit Zelenskiy accuses Russia of targeting civilians Moscow denies that, says hitting infrastructure KYIV/MYKOLAIV, Ukraine, Oct 18 (Reuters) – Russian missiles crashed into infrastructure targets across Ukraine on Tuesday morning as Moscow stepped up what looked like a deliberate campaign to destroy electricity and water facilities before winter. The major of Zhytomyr, a city of 263,000 people, said the attacks had knocked out the power and water supply, and two explosions rocked an energy facility in the southeastern city of Dnipro, a city of nearly 1 million, causing serious damage, according to Kyrylo Tymoshenko, a Ukrainian presidential aide. In the southern Ukrainian port of Mykolaiv, a missile slammed into an apartment building killing at least one man, a Reuters witness said, and blasts were heard and smoke seen rising in Kyiv, the capital. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com There were also reports of power facilities being targeted in the city of Kharkiv, a city with a pre-war population of 1.43 million people, close to the Russian border. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy accused Russia of terrorising and killing civilians with the air attacks, which came a day after drone strikes on Kyiv and other cities killed at least four people. “Ukraine is under fire by the occupiers. They continue to do what they do best – terrorise and kill civilians,” Zelenskiy wrote on the Telegram messaging app. “The terrorist state will not change anything for itself with such actions. It will only confirm its destructive and murderous essence, for which it will certainly be held to account.” There was no immediate word on how many people had been killed in the strikes. Russia earlier this month named General Sergei Suvorikin as overall commander of what Moscow calls its “special operation” in Ukraine. Suvorikin served in Syria and Chechnya where Russian forces pounded cities in a scorched earth policy against its foes. A local resident takes pictures of a building heavily damaged by a Russian missile strike, amid Russia’s attack on Ukraine, in Mykolaiv, Ukraine October 18, 2022. REUTERS/Valentyn Ogirenko Nicknamed “General Armageddon” by the Russian media because of his alleged toughness, his appointment was followed by the biggest wave of missile strikes against Ukraine since Moscow invaded on Feb. 24. Russia carried out its latest strikes on Tuesday after the United States warned it would hold Moscow accountable for any war crimes. Moscow denies targeting civilians. Its defence ministry has said it is carrying out attacks on military targets and energy infrastructure across Ukraine using high-precision weapons. In the port city of Mykolaiv, a Reuters witness said they had heard three explosions in the early hours of Tuesday. A missile had completely destroyed one wing of a building in the downtown area, leaving a massive crater, they said. A fire crew was seen pulling the dead body of a man from the rubble. “In Mykolaiv, the enemy destroyed a residential building with S-300 missiles. A person died. There was also a strike at the flower market, the chestnut park. I wonder what the Russian terrorists were fighting against at these absolutely peaceful facilities?” Zelenskiy said. The Russian strikes followed advances by Ukrainian forces in the east and south and came after an Oct. 8 blast on a bridge linking mainland Russia to Crimea – the peninsula Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014. U.S. President Joe Biden’s press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters on Monday that the White House “strongly condemns Russia’s missile strikes” and spoke of Putin’s “brutality”. Putin sent tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine on Feb. 24 in what he called a “special operation” to root out what it calls dangerous nationalists. Ukrainian forces have mounted stiff resistance, with the help of arms supplied by the United States and its allies, who have also imposed sweeping sanctions on Russia in an effort to force it to withdraw. Redmi Pad Review: A Budget Tablet That Works Well The Indian Express
Redmi Pad Review: A Budget Tablet That Works Well – The Indian Express https://collincountynewsonline.com/redmi-pad-review-a-budget-tablet-that-works-well-the-indian-express/ When it comes to ‘budget’ tablets, the Indian market can sometimes be very limiting in terms of options. Very often, you will find that most brands are offering the same specifications at more or less the same price. In the budget category—Rs 12,000 to Rs 20,000—finding a tablet that stands out can be a challenge. And this is what Redmi is hoping to change with its Redmi Pad. The latest tablet from Xiaomi’s sub-brand packs the promise of good performance with a stylish design. But is that enough? Here’s our review. Redmi Pad specifications: 10.2-inch 2000×1200 display with 90Hz refresh rate | MediaTek Helio G99 chipset | 3GB + 64GB , 4GB +128GB and 6GB RAM+128GB| 8MP rear camera + 8MP front camera | 8000 mAh battery with 18W fast charging | Android 12 with MIUI 13 | Dolby Atmos and quad speakers Redmi Pad price in India: Rs 14,999 for the 3GB+64GB model, Rs 17,999 for the 4GB+128GB model and Rs 19,999 for the 6GB+128GB model Redmi Pad: What’s good? The Redmi Pad might be an affordable tablet, but the device does not look like a ‘budget’ offering. It comes with an all-metal body, the camera module at the back looks stylish and Redmi has even introduced this in a mint green colour option. I had the grey-coloured option with me, which looks stylish, though the lack of a cover means the back is quickly covered in smudges but the screen itself should keep most users happy. But the best part about this Redmi tablet is just how lightweight it is, weighing around 465 gram—that’s less than the iPad (9th gen). That second aspect might appeal to a lot of folks looking for a 10-inch affordable tablet that is not bulky. The Redmi Pad gets a 10.2-inches display with 2000×1200 pixels resolution and a 90 Hz refresh rate. The display itself is excellent, especially if you are buying this tablet from an entertainment perspective. I used this mostly to watch shows on Netflix such as Derry Girls and Rick and Morty on this. I also used the Kindle app to finish a book title and found the experience quite good. But the big screen might not be suited for some games as Genshin Impact just looked terrible on this resolution. The Redmi Pad also comes with quad speakers and Dolby Atmos certification, which means the audio quality was quite good. The audio is not jarring as such which can be an issue on some budget tablets. The Redmi Pad comes with a 10.2-inch display.(Image Source: Shruti Dhpola/ The Indian Express) The Redmi Pad runs MIUI 13 with Android 12 and will get two years of software updates, which means Android 13 and 14. It will come with three years of security updates as well. The Redmi Pad gets a similar software experience as the more expensive Xiaomi Pad 5 which is good to see. Thankfully, there is no bloatware either. Features such as floating windows, split view, etc work well on the Redmi Pad without any hiccups, and multi-tasking should not be a problem for users. The Redmi Pad is not compatible with Xiaomi Pen that launched with the Xiaomi Pad 5, though it will support any capacitive stylus. I don’t have one, so I could not see how the device would respond to this. The Redmi Pad comes with the Helio G99 processor and I have the 6GB RAM option for review. The tablet works fine with basic daily tasks and some gaming. But the performance is not all perfect. With the Helio G99 4G chip, the Redmi Pad works fine with basic daily tasks and some gaming (Image Source: Shruti Dhpola/ The Indian Express) The device also comes with an 8MP front and rear camera. The rear camera continues with a document mode which users will appreciate. This was seen on the Xiaomi Pad 5 as well. I’m not someone who relies on the tablet for their photos, but the camera is good enough for taking pictures in bright light. The document mode remains very useful when taking pictures of notes, etc. The tablet has an 8000 mAh battery with 18W charging support. It will take around four hours to get this to 100 per cent—presuming you are totally out of charge. In my experience, with a 20 per cent charge left, the tablet was fully charged to 100 per cent in around two and a half hours. But the battery will easily last more than two days even with the most heavy-duty usage, including a lot of gaming, binge-watching shows, etc. The battery life of this tablet is its strong suit. Redmi Pad review: What’s not good? The Redmi Pad’s big distinction is supposed to be around the performance. And while I liked the daily performance, you can see that once you push it too far, the tablet has its limitations. There are moments when you see a slight lag or stutter as you open the multitasking window or even when switching between apps. I played Asphalt 9 on the tablet, which worked fine, but then more resource-intensive games like Genshin Impact just don’t look so great and can be a struggle. But to be fair, it’s not something I expect a tablet like this to run smoothly as the experience is not designed for the bigger screen. This is not to say the Redmi Pad has terrible performance, it’s just that at times, I could see a hint of sluggishness.  The Redmi Pad comes with a 10.2-inch display.(Image Source: Shruti Dhpola/ The Indian Express) Redmi Pad review: Should you consider it?  When it comes to picking a tablet, software and hardware both play a critical role. With the Redmi Pad, both work well in sync, though the performance is perhaps not all that it is hyped up to be. Where I think the Redmi Pad enjoys an advantage compared to some others I have reviewed with a similar price tag is with the battery and the display. If you are looking for a budget tablet, the Redmi Pad delivers well for the price.

EditForce Realizes RNA-Editing Technology Of U-To-C PR Newswire
EditForce Realizes RNA-Editing Technology Of U-To-C PR Newswire
EditForce Realizes RNA-Editing Technology Of “U-To-C” – PR Newswire https://collincountynewsonline.com/editforce-realizes-rna-editing-technology-of-u-to-c-pr-newswire/ , /PRNewswire/ — EditForce, Inc. (hereinafter “EditForce”), headquartered in Fukuoka, Japan, has realized the world’s first RNA-editing technology that enables RNA-editing bases to be changed from “U” to “C,” and demonstrated that this technology works even in human cells in a joint study with Professor Takahiro Nakamura, Faculty of Agriculture, Kyushu University. The study opens up the possibility of editing gene mutations which could not have been the target with the existing technologies, and is expected to contribute to the R&D of therapies for various genetic diseases. EditForce will improve safety and editing efficiency in its development activities to establish innovative gene therapy technologies. The study was published in the scientific journal “Communications Biology” on September 15 (September 16 in JST), 2022. Logo: https://kyodonewsprwire.jp/prwfile/release/M107232/202210117969/_prw_PI1fl_AXiGsGJ1.jpg Outline of research A genome existing in each human cell consists of four nucleotide bases — A, C, G, and T — of which the sequence holds the information necessary to make up a human body. Cells generate RNA consisting of four nucleotide bases — A, C, G, and U — based on genomic sequences, and then produce protein according to the sequences of RNA. However, changes in a single nucleotide on a genome or RNA sequence cause a variety of diseases. Treatment of these diseases requires single base-editing technology of repairing genomic or RNA mutations to bring the sequences back on the normal track. Currently, genome-editing technology has been developed rapidly, but the development of editing technology for RNA sequences remains limited. Especially as regards a single base substitution, technologies have been established to substitute “C” with “U” and “A” with “G,” but the substitution of other bases is yet to be realized. The study clarified the mechanism of RNA editing in plants to substitute “U” with “C,” based on which EditForce has realized the world’s first RNA-editing (base substitution) technology that substitutes “U” with “C,” and the company demonstrated that this technology works in human cells. Base-editing technologies can be applied to the treatment of diseases caused by a single mutation, and “U-to-C” RNA-editing technology of the study opens up the possibility to edit mutations which could not have been the target with the existing technologies. Further, repairing mutations by RNA editing without changes in genome sequence will enable EditForce to provide safer treatments to patients. The company expects that this technology will establish a novel gene therapy by improving safety and editing efficiency in its development activities. About EditForce, Inc. EditForce, Inc., a Kyushu University-originated venture company developing a unique DNA/RNA-editing technology (PPR platform technology (*)), was established in May 2015 by KISCO Ltd. and Prof. Takahiro Nakamura of Kyushu University (former president of EditForce and currently its scientific advisor) and funded by companies and funds that have track records of investing in life sciences and biotechnology. EditForce aims for drug discovery that applies the PPR technology through joint research with universities and private companies. For more information, please visit: https://www.editforce.co.jp/ (*) Pentatricopeptide repeat (PPR) protein platform technology PPR is a protein discovered in plants that regulates gene expression by binding to DNA and RNA in a sequence-specific manner. The PPR proteins are also found in humans and yeasts, and they have similar functions. Prof. Takahiro Nakamura and Dr. Yusuke Yagi, CTO of EditForce, have focused on the PPR proteins and elucidated the mechanism that determines sequence specificity, and established a technology for creating various PPR proteins, each of which binds to a specific target DNA or RNA sequence. Furthermore, it is possible to manipulate and modify the target genome and RNA both inside and outside the cell by fusion with effector proteins. SOURCE EditForce, Inc.
