Oyo Govt Moves Against Discriminatory, Exclusionary Gaming, Lottery Practices – Tribune Online https://collincountynewsonline.com/oyo-govt-moves-against-discriminatory-exclusionary-gaming-lottery-practices-tribune-online/ The Oyo State government has advanced the need for diversity and inclusion of people, irrespective of their sexuality, disability, gender, class, age or race, in gaming and lottery. The state government said the call became imperative owing to palpable discriminatory, exclusionary practices in the gaming and lottery sector. Secretary to the state government, Mrs Olubamiwo Adeosun made this call at the 2022 stakeholders’ interactive forum of the Oyo State Gaming Board held in Ibadan, at the weekend. Speaking, she noted that discrimination and lack of a level-playing field continued to expand inequality gaps thereby consistently denying some people access to participate in gaming and lottery, as they desire. She stressed the need for businesses to embrace the tenets of inclusiveness and diversity in their businesses, with its attendant benefits of value addition and competitive edge in existing and emerging markets. Adeosun said: “We must create a welcoming environment and ensure that gamers do not feel excluded while combating discriminatory or exclusionary gaming practices. Very often, conversations about diversity and inclusion are dismissed as political correctness or preferential treatment. “It is illegal to discriminate against anyone based on their sex, race and age. Diversity and inclusion in the gaming and lottery sector are critical as it pertains to the gamer’s age, class, sex, gender and so on. Also, diversity in terms of age, gender, disability, sexuality, and socioeconomic background. “The lack of diversity we can see in this sector is due to active or passive prejudice but there are also barriers to employment of certain groups which is because there hasn’t been a level-playing ground in the past. “We are aware that it is not enough to create a level-playing field but people who are different should have the same opportunities and activities that are accessible to all others. “There is a need to understand the inequality gaps and take the necessary steps to address existing disadvantages affecting how people participate in the workforce, in the gaming sector, especially. “Businesses should utilise those differences to create an effective workforce. “Organisations that prioritise diversity and inclusion gain a higher market share and have a competitive edge in accessing new markets and those who do not embrace diversity get left behind because they are not equipped to face emerging challenges and opportunities.” In his remarks, Director-General, Oyo Gaming Board, Mr Jide Boladuro avowed that the state government is keen on creating an all-inclusive gaming environment as well as a sane business environment. He added that regularization and digitization of gaming agents and operators are ongoing, while the board had reduced underage gaming and increased stakeholders’ buy-in in living up to their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The event saw gaming stakeholders exposed to a new analytical portal for gaming where each gaming actor has its own portal for appropriate monitoring. Chase Randall Cops $5,000 At 34 Raceway’s Fall Haul! – Stlracing.com https://collincountynewsonline.com/chase-randall-cops-5000-at-34-raceways-fall-haul-stlracing-com/ Chase Randall – Brendan Bauman photo (Bill W) West Burlington, IA, September 25, 2022 – Chase Randall likes running with the Sprint Invaders!  The Waco, Texas native won his sixth Sprint Invaders feature of the season on Saturday, and this one was his richest.  With his clean sweep of 34 Raceway’s Fall Haul in West Burlington, Iowa, he took home over $5,200 with his heat, Dash and feature victories aboard the Bush’s Chicken, CSI Shocks #9. The 30-lap main event proved to be on of attrition as it took four tries to get going.  Veteran Randy Martin came to a stop on the first try, while Cody Wehrle, Nate Mills and Tyler Lee all suffered incidents in turns one and two on the second try and were eliminated.  The third try saw a mid-field bump up between Terry McCarl, Devin Wignall, Joe Beaver, Jamie Ball and Devon Dobie.  Only Wignall and Ball (sans nose wing) would continue. Once the race resumed, Paul Nienhiser asserted himself by taking the point, followed by Randall, Davey Heskin, Bret Tripplett and Riley Goodno.  The leaders were approaching lappers on the eighth circuit, when Nienhiser tried sliding by the lapped car of Chase Richards and making contact.  The result was Richards getting upside down over turn one, and Nienhiser suffering a flat that ended his race.  No one was hurt.  Heskin, who was running behind Randall had to retire with a low tire of his own. Randall assumed the lead now, ahead of Tripplett, Goodno and Carson McCarl.  Once green, Chris Martin moved his way up to fourth, before Randall entered lappers again on lap 14.  Martin claimed third from Goodno on lap 16, and Garet Williamson followed him a lap later into fourth. On lap 19, Carson McCarl came to a stop in turn four.  Williamson slid in front of Martin on the restart to take third, while Zach Daum used the low side to move into the top five.  Carson McCarl spun with eight to go, collecting Ryan Jamison and ending both of their races. Randall maintained his lead, while Williamson slid by Tripplett for the runner-up spot.  Chris Martin moved into third, and Daum was fourth with six to go.  Tripplett would end up fifth.  Goodno, Colton Fisher, Luke Verardi, hard-charger and provisional Jamie Ball and Evan Martin rounded out the top ten.  Plenty of contingencies from a number of sponsors padded wallets. Randall, Fisher, Monty Ferriera and Chris Martin won heat races.  Randall won the Shake-up Dash and Joe Beaver won the B main.  Nienhiser won $500 by taking the Terry Jamison Memorial Dash for the top eight car owners. “It was unfortunate what happened to Paul there,” said Randall afterwards.  “I think it would have been a good race between him and me.  We were set up really good.  I got to second early, and kind of just rode around to figure out where my car would work best.  I found the top really good the whole way around, especially off of four.  We got to lapped traffic early there.  They were all over the place in front of us, we slid a car and Paul got together with the other car.  That benefited us.  We were able to get the lead and get out front.  Clean air was very key.  I’m glad to get another win here and 34, and I thank them for having us.  It was a long race…nothing we could control.  We finally got it going.  It was a fun race after that, and I’m glad to be here.” On Sunday, September 25, the Adams County Illinois Speedway in Quincy plays host to the series’ season finale.  For more information, visit www.SprintInvaders.net. To start with, the environment is serene, the health facility is spacious and there is never a time when there is no bed space, because the health facility has a lot of beds”, Chioma said. She added, “As for the health workers, they take good care of the community members, especially pregnant women. Drugs are never out of stock and the nurses are very friendly. So you can see the reason why I am eager to attend my antenatal and looking forward to giving birth to my bundle of joy at this PHC.” However, Chioma’s joy was recently cut short. Two months ago, the PHC was closed by the Oyo state government. The health facility, one of the best in Apete-Awotan-Ayegun, was ruled as not conducive to run as a health facility. The reason for the shutdown of the health facility is not far-fetched. “For years, there was no maintenance of the facility and with the heavy downpour that was accompanied with strong wind recently, the roof was blown away and the rain freely entered into the facility, destroying all the equipment, including the beds. “Instead of fixing it, the Oyo state government decided to close the health facility about two months ago and ever since then, my people have been finding it difficult to access healthcare services,” the chairman of Onigbaketun community, Ido Local Government Area (LGA), Oyo state, Kola Ola, told LEADERSHIP. “We cannot continue to live like this. Our children and pregnant women in this community need adequate healthcare services, which was provided to us at Awotan Orisun Healthcare Centre. Now that the government has shut down the facility, we are helpless,” a trader at Onigbaketun community, Mrs Balikis Adeyemi, said in an interview with LEADERSHIP. Mrs Adeyemi who has five children, said she used to patronise herbal medicine sellers, but she got to hear of Awotan Orisun Healthcare Centre from her friend. “Ever since I have been attending the PHC, my children have been healthy and okay. The cost of treatment at the PHC is even cheaper and more effective than herb treatment. Now that the government has closed the facility, we will have no other choice than to go back to using herbal drugs, because the nearest PHC (Apkete PHC) is far from where I live,” she explained. The community chairman said he wanted to renovate the health facility but he does not have the financial muscle to do it.  “We do not like the state of this PHC. We are helpless, however, because we do not have the financial muscle to renovate it. We are pleading with the government to put this place in order, so that our women and children can start accessing quality healthcare services,” he pleaded. Ola added that he does not know what government has in mind for the PHC. “We have not been able to sit with the commissioner for health or the Primary Health Care Board, (PHCB), Oyo state, to discuss this issue, but we are trying to see a way to book appointment with the agency.” The journey towards ‘health for all’ The poor health outcomes experienced by the people living in places like Onigbaketun Awotan was the main reason the federal government sets up the Primary Health Care Provision Fund (PHCPF) and the Midwives Service Scheme (MSS) in Nigeria. It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari launched the BHCPF appropriated by the National Assembly for the first time in the 2018 budget since the National Health Act (NHAct) was enacted in 2014. The NHAct sets out the important drivers to guide disbursement of the BHCPF. These “Payment Gateways” are in three-fold and the Act states that 50 per cent (one half) of the Fund shall be disbursed through the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and deployed towards the provision of the Basic Minimum Package Health Scheme (BMPHS) in eligible primary or secondary health care facilities. Forty-five per cent of the Fund is meant to be disbursed through the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) and deployed to strengthening Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in eligible PHC facilities for the provision of essential drugs, vaccines and consumables; provision and maintenance of facilities, equipment and transport; and development of human resources: while five per cent shall be disbursed through a committee appointed by the National Council on Health (NCH) and deployed towards emergency medical treatment. Current contributions into the basket fund of the BHCPF includes N86 billion, of which about N56 billion has been disbursed to states as at June 2022, the secretary of the oversight committee of the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr Chris Isokpunwu, disclosed. To access the Fund, a section of the Act makes it clear that states have to pay 25 per cent, while the federal government pays 75 per cent. In Oyo state, for instance, LEADERSHIP findings showed that the state government paid a sum of N100 million as counterpart funding for the Basic Health Care Fund project and so far, about 351 PHCs, are eligible for BHCPF. In Akinleye LGA for instance, Aroro PHC, Ojoo PHC, Iroko PHC, Ikereku PHC, Pade Maternity centre, Akinyele PHC, Iwokoto health center and Ijaye PHC are eligible for BHCPF; In Ogbomoso South LGA, Ilogbo PHC, Alapata health post, Adebayo Alata PHC, Isoko health post, Lagbedu health post and Okeolla health post are eligible for BHCPF; For Saki east, the eligible PHCs are Araromi PHC, Arolu PHC, Model Our Owode and Isale Ola PHC; In Ibadan South West, Agbokojo, Bode PHC, Isale Osi, Kokosi PHC and Molete PHC, among others are eligible for the BHCPF; In Ido LGA, Akinware PHC, Akufo Health centre, Elebu PHC, Ilaju health post, Ladunni health centre, Omi-Adio health center and Apete health centre. Implementing PHCPF, MSS Scheme in Oyo State: Slow, but steady So far, through the PHCPF, funds have been disbursed to over 100 primary health facilities in Oyo state, even as some facilities have received second disbursement of about N600,000, LEADERSHIP findings (as at 28th of June, 2022) showed. A recent visit to primary health facilities like Isale-Osi PHC, Bode PHC, Molete PHC, Alata health center and Model Oje Owode PHC, (in July 2022) showed that N900,000 was paid to the PHC account as at November, 2021, and they have accessed about N600,000 of the BHCPF in June, 2022. For instance, at Isale-Osi PHC, Ibadan South West LGA, community health officer and an assistant officer in charge of Isale-Osi primary healthcare centre, Ibadan South west, Oyo state, Olayinde Abass told LEADERSHIP that prior to the fund, the PHC faced challenges like inadequate provision of essential drugs and poor maintenance of the facility. “So far, we have received from the BHCPF, N601,000 and we plan to use the funds to purchase essential drugs, to renovate the PHC, buy equipment like thermometer and stethoscope etc. We also need to print receipt and vouchers and carryout community mobilization/outreach programme. “If the fund keeps coming, we believe that it will improve healthcare delivery in Ibadan South west LGA, in that more people will be accessing healthcare services at the PHC,” Abass said. A visit to Molete PHC, Ibadan South West LGA, showed that the facility has received the sum of about N600,000 and part of the funds was used to fix the area for antenatal class and fix the beds, most of which were in bad shape. The Matron of Molete PHC, Mrs Folashade Yinka, told LEADERSHIP that the PHC is faced with challenges ranging from inadequate beds, lack of hospital equipment like syringes, lack of potable water (as they fetch water from well) to inadequate chairs for antenatal and immunization class. With the disbursement of the funds this year, the matron said parts of the N600,000 have been used to fix the bed springs, buy delivery couch, fix the antenatal area, buy chairs and bed lining, among others. On the MSS, Yinka said the Oyo state government has assigned one midwife to the health facility, while assuring that it will assign more midwives to the PHC as soon as possible, to assist the four workers there. She however appealed to government to provide borehole for them and put in more security in place to enable them work morning and night. A visit to Akinyele PHC, AKinyele LGA, revealed that the facility is one of the best in the LGA as government has ensured that there are enough drugs in the hospital. According to the WDC Chairman, Akinyele PHC, Mr. Toogun Sunkanmi, the government is trying its best to make sure that the PHC is in perfect condition. He told LEADERSHIP that his job is to take the needs of the PHC to the government and also to help educate the people (community) on the importance of using the facility for immunization of their children and other health care services. In Ido LGA, the secretary and director of Ido Local government Head Authority, Dr. Olugbade Omotado, told LEADERSHIP that the LGA consists of 10 wards and each ward has more the one PHC, adding that the government decided to attend to one PHC per ward. The others, including Awontan Orisun PHC, are not attended to and as a result are in bad state, a community member, in Ido LGA, Samson Amosun, told LEADERSHIP, while pleading with the government to renovate those centres as soon as possible, to save the lives of people living in those communities. He is reportedly mulling pain-killing injections at the site of the injury to play, and it doesn’t sound like the risk is one of re-injury — it’s more of a pain-management issue. If he plays, you’re probably starting him, but Herbert carries some risk as a result of the injury, for sure. He’s not the obvious top-five QB he typically is. If he doesn’t play, Chase Daniel is a downgrade for the entire offense.  Running backs J.K. Dobbins (knee) is expected to make his debut today after rehabbing his reconstructed knee. He’s been practicing for a few weeks, but I still expect Dobbins to have his reps limited, so I’m not viewing him as a must-start Fantasy RB just yet — he should get there eventually, but for now he’s more of an RB3 as he knocks the rust off.  Alvin Kamara (ribs) looks like he’s going to play after missing last week’s game. It’s not clear if he’s going to be limited as a result of the injury — his role in Week 1 wasn’t quite what we expected due to the injury. I’m not treating Kamara like a top-12 RB this week, but I’m starting him where I have him.  James Conner (ankle) is still looking like a game-time decision, but Sunday morning reports indicate he is trending toward playing. Maybe he has a lesser role than usual — maybe Eno Benjamin takes on a few more snaps to help keep Conner fresh — but Conner is still an RB2 in my rankings if he plays. Josh Jacobs (illness) joined the team in Tennessee Saturday after missing the flight Friday. It’s not clear yet if he’s going to play, but the fact that he did ultimately travel seems to indicate he will. If he doesn’t, Brandon Bolden and Zamir White would likely both see a bigger role, with White likely handling rushing downs and Bolden getting a bigger role in the passing game — I’d rather use Bolden if it came to it. Sorry! There was an error processing your subscription. Wide receivers We’ll start with the Buccaneers receivers, just like last week. Chris Godwin (hamstring) is out, as is Mike Evans (suspension). Julio Jones (knee) is a game-time decision, while Russell Gage (hamstring) is expected to play — I think the same is true of Breshad Perriman (knee). The Buccaneers added Cole Beasley from their practice squad, and I get the feeling he’s going to play a decent role off the bat. Gage is the only one of this group I would trust in my season-long lineups, but even he is more of a low-end WR3 for me. There just isn’t enough certainty beyond him to trust anyone.  Keenan Allen (hamstring) looks like he has a chance to play, though it’s not a great sign that he missed Friday’s practice after being limited the first two days of the week. If he plays, you’re definitely starting him, but there’s risk between his injury and Herbert’s.  Michael Pittman (quad) is not on the injury report for the Colts, so his absence is just a one-week thing. Alec Pierce (concussion) is also expected to make his return, so that gives Matt Ryan his top two WRs back. Pittman is a must-start option.  Gabe Davis (ankle) is expected to play against the Dolphins. He’s going to test it in warm-ups to make sure, so don’t lock in your lineup until you see inactives, but he’s a WR3 if he does play.  Jerry Jeudy (ribs/sternum) looks like he’s got a pretty good chance to play, per Sunday morning reports. Whether he’ll play his typical role remains to be seen, and the risk of re-injury makes him a risk, but I’m expecting he’ll be pretty involved — I’m still viewing him as the 1b to Courtland Sutton’s 1a in this offense. Both are in the WR2/3 range of my rankings.  The Packers have some injury concerns of their own in that game against the Buccaneers, with Randall Cobb (illness) and Christian Watson (hamstring) questionable plus Sammy Watkins placed on IR earlier in the week. Romeo Doubs is a great beat-the-waiver-wire add just in case he steps up this week.  Michael Gallup (knee) is expected to play Monday night against the Giants, assuming he passes his final tests in warmups. You should be stashing him, but don’t start him in his first game back.  Hunter Renfrow (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Titans.  Jakobi Meyes (knee) is not expected to play, per Sunday morning reports. Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne figure to see bigger roles, but I don’t think anyone from this passing game is worth using.  Kadarius Toney (hamstring) is doubtful for Monday’s game against the Cowboys. I still have some hope he’ll figure it out, but his inability to stay on the field has reportedly been an issue with the coaches, so he has some work to do to prove himself.  Rondale Moore (hamstring) remains out, with Greg Dortch remaining an interesting PPR sleeper in his absence.  Kyle Phillips (shoulder) is doubtful for Sunday against the Raiders. Treylon Burks could see an even bigger role if Phillips remains out.  Tight ends George Kittle (groin) is expected to make his return this week after he was taken off the practice report Friday. He is not expected to face any snap count restrictions, so you have to have Kittle in your lineup.  Dawson Knox (foot) is questionable, but it looks like he’s going to play after upping his participation in practice Thursday and Friday. He’s a fringe starter at this point. T.J. Hockenson (ribs) was limited in practice all week, and we don’t really have any sign of whether he is going to play. He remains a volume-based TE1 if he’s active. Dalton Schultz (knee) got a limited practice in Saturday, but I’d prefer not to have to rely on him going into Monday Night Football. I’m not sure I trust rookie Jake Ferguson to be worth using if Schultz is out, and the Cowboys don’t really have a tight end worth getting excited about — Tanner Hudson and Daniel Bellinger have combined for four targets in two games.  #AskFFT Mailbag Send your questions to Chris.Towers@ViacomCBS.com to be included next week Doug: For teams sitting at 0-2, coming off the heels of a good draft with players performing less than their expected output (your Kyle Pitts/Darnell Mooney variety), do you bail on relatively highly drafted players for the waiver-wire hotshots or hang tight? It all depends on the player, obviously. With Mooney, I’m not far from giving up hope – the Bears need to show a willingness to operate like a modern NFL offense for him to have any chance of living up to his potential, and they haven’t done that through two games – they have the NFL’s only two games with 20 or fewer pass attempts. They’ll throw more than they have moving forward, but the early returns on this offense are bad enough that it’s not unreasonable to have thinning patience with Mooney. Pitts is a different question, mostly because I just truly believe he’s an elite talent. Maybe Drake London is even better – he’s pretty dang good, you know – but I need more than two games before I’m willing to give up on a young player of Pitts’ skill set. If anything, London’s quick emergence should make Pitts’ life easier, and I believe it will moving forward. Even if Pitts has a bad game this week, I’m still going to rank him as a top-10 tight end.  Which is to say, your preseason expectations should still hold quite a bit of weight. They shouldn’t be everything, of course – we have learned new information, And I can’t tell you there’s an obvious rule when it comes to who deserves your faith and who doesn’t. Slap them on, connect them to a compatible smartphone, laptop, or games console and their full-HD OLED displays will virtually project a 120-inch screen before your eyes. We say virtually project as onlookers won’t be able to see the screen floating in mid-air that you can see. Instead, these AR glasses provide you with a private personal home-cinema experience complete with surround sound – and you can take them anywhere you go. However, while the glasses promise a lot they don’t really deliver thanks to their lacking design. They don’t quite sit right on your face, meaning too much light can be let in and spoil the experience. In addition, the edges of the image can get quite blurry, making playing games and watching shows a bit of a challenge. If VITURE can release new nose clip options and a better cover that helps block out more light from the wearer’s surroundings then these could be a fairly nifty gadget. Unfortunately, as they are right now the One XR Glasses aren’t a pair of smart specs that we can recommend. VITURE One XR Glasses: Price and availability The VITURE One XR Glasses are available to buy in four different packages The most basic is buying the glasses on their own, which costs $479 (around £425 / AU$720). Taking things up a gear is the Dock Pack, which includes the glasses and a mobile dock so you can use the glasses with your Nintendo Switch and other HDMI-compatible devices; it’s $568 (around £500 / AU$855). Alternatively, you could nab the Cloud Pack for $588 (around £520 / AU$885) and swap the dock for a neckband that allows you to stream TV shows and games to the glasses over Wi-Fi. Or, if you want it all, you can get the Ultimate pack for $677 (around £599 / AU$1,019). The Steam Deck connected to the VITURE XR Glasses. (Image credit: Future) We were sent the Cloud Pack and definitely think this one is the best value for money of the four options – the dock seems useful but the neckband is what makes the glasses feel like they’re a portable projector rather than just an AR monitor for your phone or Steam Deck. That said, these prices feel pretty darn high for what you’re getting, but that’s an issue we’ve noticed with AR glasses in general. The tech is a bit too new for it to come at an affordable, mainstream price yet, so prices like $477 are roughly what you can expect to pay right now. Value score: 2/5 VITURE One XR Glasses: Design Whether you pick the black, white, or blue model, you’ll find there are a lot of similarities between the VITURE One XR glasses and other AR specs on the market like the Nreal Air AR glasses. Just like Nreal’s offering they look like a fairly normal – albeit chunky (coming in at 78g / 0.17lbs) – pair of shades with interchangeable and adjustable nose clips. The wired connection is placed at the end of one of the arms too, though VITURE has opted for a slightly different placement (on the side rather than the tip) and to use a magnetic pogo pin instead of a USB-C port. It works just as well though; the connection is secure and never came loose while we were using the glasses. The glasses also come with a plastic cover for the lenses to help stop light coming through the lenses, just like the Nreal Airs. However VITURE doesn’t just copy its rival, and the first improvement it makes is to the glasses’ regular lenses. VITURE’s glasses use mirrored lenses instead of simply dark tinted ones, which better hide the internal screens from onlookers. In addition, it adds controls to the glasses themselves, with a button on the left arm that lets you control volume, brightness, and a few other settings. You’ll also find dials on the top of each lens that let your correct the image between 0D and -5.0D to help you see what’s being displayed if you’re near-sighted. Unfortunately, for all the improvements, the VITURE Glasses also take a few steps back. The biggest problem with the design is that the glasses don’t dominate enough of your vision – there’s a lot of space around the side of them that lets light and distractions get in the way of your immersed experience. On top of that, we noticed that the picture always looked a little blurry, especially at the periphery where the most distractions were. Part of this is caused by the lenses not being quite large enough, but the nose clips also bear some of the blame. While there are three clips to choose from in the box they aren’t quite malleable enough, so we couldn’t alter their shape at all and make the glasses sit properly. To get around this we’d love to see VITURE release some better nose clips, and potentially look at a plastic cover that could surround the glasses – turning them from glasses to something more like goggles. When we help the glasses in the right place and cup our hands around the specs to block out more light the issues became much less noticeable. (Image credit: Future) On top of these issues, the dials for near-sightedness, while a neat concept, fall a little short as they could still keep some players excluded. Nreal included an add-on for its AR glasses that could be outfitted with any kind of prescription lenses, a feature that could have worked just as well for VITURE. Moving past the glasses, the neckband is generally great. The 170g electronic is comfy to wear and the connector cable is the perfect length – long enough to reach the glasses but not so long that it leaves too much excess lying around. The only downside is the controller placement. It sits with the buttons facing your chest meaning you can’t actually see what you’re pressing – so you’ll need to memorize the layout before putting the glasses on. Design score: 1/5 VITURE One XR Glasses: Performance To put VITURE’s glasses through their paces we used them to play Stray and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered on the Steam Deck. Stray is a game chock full of dusky city streets, with levels where the only illumination is from neon lights and bioluminescent matter. Despite being filled with generally darker scenes the VITURE glasses put their 5000:1 contrast ratio to good use and helped keep the game’s objects fairly well defined instead of a mess of indiscernible dark blobs. Meanwhile, the daytime streets of New York City and Spidey’s cartoonishly bright red, blue and white suit were rendered pretty well too. We would have liked some of the brighter colors to pop more but this full-HD OLED screen with 1800 nits of brightness still made sure that swinging from digital skyscrapers didn’t lose much of the magic. To help make everything look as great as it can we’d recommend turning the glasses up to high brightness and wearing them in a fairly dark room with the lights off or at least dimmed – the same sort of setup we’d recommend for a projector. Even in this ideal setting, you won’t get an experience that’s on par with one of the best OLED TVs, nor one of the best 4K projectors, but it’ll be about as good as a mid-range projector. For something that you can take with you and wear on your face that’s not half bad. The VITURE Neckband turns these glasses into a projector instead of just a glorified monitor. (Image credit: Future) The image latency seemed fine too, there were no noticeable input delays, so we could still pull off Spidey’s web-slinging combat combos without issue. But, as we mentioned above because of the specs’ design we did face some issues with the outer edges of the image being blurry. This wasn’t always a problem if the subject was in the center of the screen, but if we needed to read an in-game menu or pay attention to something at the edge we couldn’t tell what was going on. Over time the blurry image also gave us a headache, limiting the length of time we could stay immersed in each session. Audio-wise these glasses house some pretty solid Harmon speakers that provide spatial audio for whatever you’re playing or watching. However, if you have a pair of great headphones lying around we’d suggest using those instead.  The VITURE One XR’s speakers didn’t have enough oomph to provide the majesty that’s required by some tracks – like the heroic orchestral tracks that play in the background of Marvel’s Spider-Man. This left the audio feeling a little empty at times, something which we easily fixed using a pair of cans. Performance score: 2/5  VITURE One XR Glasses: Features The VITURE One XR glasses are compatible with any device that supports video output through a USB-C port. This means you can hook them up to your Steam Deck, Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch (M2, 2022), iPad Air (2022), and many of the best Windows laptops and Android smartphones, to name just a few devices. That said, we’d recommend checking your devices are indeed usable with these glasses before you buy. Case in point, despite being Google’s top-of-the-line phone the Google Pixel 6 isn’t compatible as it doesn’t support video output through its USB-C port. And on Monday, when the agency filed a federal lawsuit against crypto influencer Ian Balina, it put out an even more extreme view: that the U.S. government has jurisdiction over all Ethereum transactions, according to the SEC’s logic, because most of the network’s validator nodes are clustered in the U.S.  Crypto Twitter went ape. But there is a third, equally serious danger. While it is critical to get rid of dark money (reversing Citizens United) and gerrymandering, and to set term limits on the Supreme Court, an equally significant element of the current nightmare is coming from social media. Indeed, the degree to which social media has not only ginned up but actually created some or much of the current social-cultural-political zeitgeist is not well understood or acknowledged. For all the positives it provides, social media has become a cancer on society — one that has metastasized and continues to do so, often with the full knowledge (and even complicity) of social media companies. If we are going to begin arresting, and then (hopefully) reversing, the crisis described in the article, we need to address the social media issue as urgently as we need to address the overtly political ones. Addressing the latter without the former simply will not do the job. Odds are as of Saturday at 4:30 p.m. ET. Phillip Kall: The Patriots want to play in low-scoring physical games so they can rely on their defense and running game. This allows them to stay on schedule and not have to push the ball downfield to their typically overmatched receivers. The Ravens, on the other hand, feel like any play can blow the game open. This explosiveness is even more valuable against the Patriots who lack that burst ability. Even if the Patriots are controlling this game and playing their brand of football, it is hard to imagine Baltimore ever being more than one big play from flipping the script. A field goal spread is a complete shock to me in this game. My only thought is this must be an overreaction to what happened last week against Miami. We saw New England have a good outing on offense against a T.J. Watt-less Steelers team and still managed to score just 17 points. As long as the Ravens’ defense doesn’t blow coverage, they should be a tougher challenge. The only question mark for Baltimore is the status of Jackson’s elbow. Fortunately, in what is unlikely to be a shootout, this matters much less. Plus we saw last week he still is a menace using his legs. This spread looks too good to be true but I am going to be hammering it. Trust Baltimore to make up for their solo quarter of bad football and take down the Patriots. FanDuel Quickslip: Ravens -2.5 | Bet to -5.5 Anthony Dabbundo: The lookahead line for this game was Kansas City -3 or -3.5, depending on which book you looked at. The line opened at Chiefs -6.5 and despite an overwhelming majority of the public betting Kansas City, the line has been met with consistent resistance any time bookmakers moved the Chiefs up. It briefly hit seven and was hit down. Then it dropped from 6.5 to 5.5 once it was announced that Pittman and Pierce would be back for Indianapolis. The trends on winless teams in Week 3 are super strong. Teams that are winless  in Week 3 and are an underdog of less than a touchdown have covered the spread 61% of the time since 2005. As bad as Indianapolis looked in the first two weeks of the season, the Colts were still a clear division favorite just two weeks ago. A bad red zone showing in Houston and another shocking display in Jacksonville shouldn’t override your priors on the Colts as much as the market has. For example, here’s a shocking trend: Since 2015, the Colts are 1-13-1 against the spread vs. the Jaguars and 57-42-3 (57.6%) against everyone else. The week after playing the Jaguars, the Colts cover the spread 72.7% of the time in the last 20 years. Simply put, divisional matchups are weird.  From a buy-low, sell-high perspective, this is a classic Colts spot. Even though the matchup isn’t that good for the Colts secondary to slow down Mahomes, it should be a heavy dose of Jonathan Taylor and an improved Colts offense with its weapons back. Hold your nose and bet the Colts at +5 or better at home. FanDuel Quickslip: Colts +5.5 | Bet to +5 Kody Malstrom: With both teams having a similar roster blueprint — an elite offense coupled with a horrific defense — so we may see points scored in bunches. The Vikings’ sole defensive strength is in their pass rush, which is an area we may see negated against the Lions’ elite offensive line. Should Minnesota be unable to pressure Goff and force him into his typical boneheaded mistakes, then we may see the Lions offense cook once again. The Lions enter this game tied for second in the NFL in points scored. On the other end, the Vikings should have no issue moving the ball down the field with their fast-paced, air-raid attack. They will test the Lions secondary that has yet to show any signs of life. Look for Jefferson to have a monster game making plays in the open field. I joked Lions overs were going to be an auto play every week in Week 1 and so far, it has not shown to be going away anytime soon. I’ll be betting the over at anything better than 52 up to 54.5. On the other hand, I am not confident enough in this Saints’ offense to take them, or any sort of over in a game they are involved in. I’m taking this first half under, so let’s hope we never see this game on NFL RedZone. Pick: Saints 1H Team Total Under 10 | Bet to Under 9.5 Phillip Kall: I wish there was more to this one, but it boils down to two awful offenses facing off. After Week 1, prognosticators thought the Bears played conservatively due to the weather. After Week 2, it was very clear that the conservative style will be their bread and butter no matter the situation. Unfortunately, this conservative style has guided them to the second-fewest yards per drive. While Chicago chooses to play conservatively, Houston has at least shown a willingness to trust its young quarterback. The team even has the 10th highest pass/run split in the NFL, per Team Rankings. The problem is they simply do not have the talent to move the ball effectively. This has left them as the only team with fewer yards per drive than the Bears. Both of these teams have shown an ineptitude on offense and the ability to step up on defense when it matters most. The spread is under a field goal, so if you are confident in one team, that is an angle to take. However, I think it will be a tight ball game, and I will trust neither team to not make a mistake and blow the win and/or cover. Instead, I will trust both teams to do what they have shown through the first two weeks: struggle to move the ball and force field goals instead of touchdowns. That is why I’m taking the under in this matchup. Pick: Dallas Goedert Over 47.5 Receiving Yards (-110) | Bet to 49.5 Landon Silinsky: With all of the defensive injuries to both teams, it’s really hard to see either offense struggling in this spot with all the firepower on both sides. We know both of these coaches do not like to run the ball much, leading to more total plays run and clock stoppages stemming from incompletions. The game being played in Miami is just a boost, as it’s less likely Buffalo blows them out in their home building, which could lead to a back-and-forth affair with tons of explosive plays downfield. The Bills are going to have serious trouble containing both Hill and Waddle, and there is obviously no stopping Allen and this freight train offense, so give me the over here. FanDuel Quickslip: Over 52.5 | Bet to 53 The Great Foosini: There are a few angles I love exploiting here in this matchup. The most obvious is buying low and selling high on two teams who should be headed in different directions moving forward. The former is historically profitable in the NFL, where teams are 37-23 (62%) ATS in Week 3 since 2010 after starting the seasons 0-2 SU and ATS. Second, we have a corollary to last year after the Jets beat the Bengals at home and went on to get crushed by the Colts the following week. This is a one-game sample, but the Jets have not changed much outside of a few rookie additions, and we can expect this young squad to follow a similar pattern in line with historical performance. Finally, looking again at last year, the Bengals came into the matchup as an 11.5-point favorite. Their stock rose as the season progressed and entered the 2022-2023 NFL season, while the Jets remained relatively the same. This game currently sits at Bengals -6 in the market, which begs the question: what changed to make this line five points lower? The Bengals did statistically overachieve last year, but justifying a 5.5-point move toward the Jets seems like a significant overreaction to this year’s performances. It will pain me to sit in MetLife and watch this unfold, but I have this as a 7-10-point win for the Bengals. That said, monitor the line as it could change heading into Sunday. Ideally we can snag the Bengals at -5.5, but I like this up to -6.5 FanDuel Quickslip: Bengals -6 | Bet to -6.5 Blake Krass: The Titans’ offense has been dismal so far. The offensive line gets no push and now they are missing their three-time Pro Bowl left tackle. The Raiders’ front seven is stacked and should force Ryan Tannehill to make more throws than he is comfortable making. If the Raiders can simply avoid turnovers their offense should be fine. If it comes down to the little things — like field position or a made field goal — the Raiders are eighth in special teams DVOA, while the Titans are 30th. I really think the Raiders are the much better team. They have an edge at quarterback, offensive line and defense. Again, as long as they can avoid the turnover, they should win comfortably. Hard work is a well-understood value in many places. West Texas A&M University appreciates its import. In the Texas Panhandle, it’s a fact of life. Diane Meyer claims hard work is a core of Texas’ legacy. She records: Laborum Dulce Lenimen is engraved across a wooden mantle in the Hansford County, Texas, home of Joel and Joyce Lackey. Translated, “the sweet solace of my labors” reminds family of rewards earned, and embodies the spirit of grandsons Chandler, Collin and Chance Bowers. The three have an eye for quality and opportunity that sustains the family legacy and predicts success in the cattle business.” Panhandle people appreciate hard work. Studs Terkel, in his groundbreaking effort to catalog various aspects of work, creatively entitled “Working,” reported this conversation with Mike Lefevre, a steelworker who lived in Cicero, Illinois, on the outskirts of the Windy City, on the shores of the greatest of lakes, regarding his toils in the steel mill: We handle between forty and fifty thousand pounds of steel a day (laughs). According to Joshua Becker, hard work leads to personal development, benefits society, is an example to kids, provides important life lessons, makes the most of your hours and is fulfilling in and of itself. Whether a steelworker, rancher or corporate CEO—hard work is noble. The value of hard work is universal, detached from geography, birth or burden of circumstance or even the nature of the work itself. From the Texas Panhandle to Chicago to Havana, Cuba or Atlanta, Georgia, people work hard and achieve various measures of success, recognized in different ways. Even with thoughtful application of ideas and circumstances, hard work alone may not yield desired outcomes. Norm Lach, my friend from Southern Illinois, said, “He may be smarter than I am, but he won’t outwork me.” That is the heart of satisfaction. Or, is it the satisfaction of the heart? Forbes suggests that all entrepreneurial success requires hard work but does not guarantee success. The satisfaction of hard work should be appreciated for what it is rather than what it may or may not yield. Too often, universities proclaim by default or design that hard work will guarantee material success. Instead, the internal satisfaction of doing our best regardless of the result should guide us daily. The concepts are not new and were recorded nearly 2,500 years ago in the 13th chapter of the Book of Proverbs: “A sluggard’s appetite is never filled, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied.” Space, circumstance and time cannot separate us from the universal value many West Texans hold dear. Hard work is its reward and can never be overlooked as a foundation for a fulfilling life. A university that does not adhere to hard work in its heart and soul is not a university at all. Walter V. Here’s a look at their latest updates in detail, including what’s set to change, when the changes are due to come into effect and why Barbados could just be the perfect winter warmer destination for you.  Barbados Drops Entry Requirements – What Travelers Should Know Travel to Barbados has suffered since the outbreak of the global pandemic, as strict entry requirements were imposed on travelers that made visiting the country more of a hassle than it was worth. The situation was made worse as tourism rival Mexico was amongst the first to completely roll back their Covid-19 restrictions, making visiting the island as unappealing as it has ever been. However, thanks to an update from the country’s government, that could all be set to change. On Thursday, the Barbadian government revealed that all of the country’s Covid-19 restrictions were coming to an end, spelling the end to a tumultuous period for the island and joining fellow Caribbean destinations in doing so. That means that travelers will no longer be required to show proof of vaccination against Covid-19, nor will they have to subject themselves to tests in order to gain entry, regardless of vaccination status. Finally, the biggest question before visiting Barbados is once again concerning what swimwear you should pack or which hotel you should book, rather than worrying about which documents are needed to enter. That wasn’t the only positive change that Barbados revealed during the week. The country has also rolled back its mask-wearing requirements. The wearing of face masks in public is now optional rather than compulsory, meaning you won’t have to worry about unflattering tan lines on your face ruining your holiday snaps. All of these changes are effective immediately, which means travelers don’t have to delay when it comes to booking their trips to the island. American and Canadian citizens do not need a visa to be able to visit Barbados for stays that are less than six months in duration. Travelers to the country must, however, ensure that their passports are valid for the duration of their stay and must have an onward travel ticket. In addition, they will still need to fill in a customs form 72 hours prior to their arrival, which involves filling in personal information. At time of writing, Bitcoin is changing hands for $19,054. A move to Pentoshi’s target suggests upside potential of over 40% for the leading cryptocurrency. As for smart contract platform Solana (SOL), Pentoshi sees the Ethereum competitor rallying alongside Bitcoin. “Filled today $32.26. Looking for a ride up to $37. There are endless possibilities, and Americans are certainly spoiled for choice, with at least 9 new non-stop flights from the U.S. to sunny destinations being announced. Whether it’s the turquoise waters of the Riviera Maya or the world-class service found in the Dominican resorts, most Americans will not have to worry about long layovers in Southern hubs like Orlando and Miami when flying Caribbean-bound. And believe us, although fares are inevitably higher this year compared to 2019, they’re well below the summer rates. But in order to get the best bang for your buck, you will need to book those flights as soon as possible: 1 – Connecticut to Jamaica Lowest fare this season: $226 one-way Connecticut has never been particularly favored by big airlines when it comes to adding routes to beach hotspots. However, as of this year, following a demand surge, the largely overlooked airport is rising in importance, with Spirit Airlines set to launch the first-ever Bradley International-Sangster International flights. Beginning December 15, Hartford residents will have a brand new air bridge to Montego Bay, all year round, four times a week. As for route specifics, both Airbus A320neo and A321neo fleets have been deployed, asserting Spirit’s plans of establishing a regional hub in Bradley International. 2 – Raleigh/Durham to Cancun Lowest fare this season: £292 Although Raleigh/Durham natives have always enjoyed direct links to Cancun with JetBlue, those not keen on the low-cost carrier not exactly known for the comfort of its seats will now be able to fly American Airlines instead. The full-service airline has added Raleigh to its flight map and will be operating flights to the Caribbean gem throughout winter. By far and away, it is the busiest and most chaotic hub in Mexico, looking set to welcome more than 9 million tourists during the upcoming season only, and knowing how to navigate it is paramount- otherwise, you may fall victim to taxi or money exchange scams. 3 – Colorado to Santo Domingo Lowest fare this season: $291 Banking on Costa Rica flights to sell out its winter schedule, Southwest Airlines is not only ramping up service to the sought-after destination but opening a new air bridge between Denver, Colorado, and San Jose, the country’s lively capital and its main entry point. The official start date is March 11, 2023. On the route, passengers can expect a smooth flight on a Boeing 737 MAX 8, and limited capacity shouldn’t be an issue, as each leg of the journey is expected to carry 175 passengers. Besides being more accessible than ever, there’s another reason why Coloradans should pick Costa Rica as their next vacation: it’s been recently crowned Central America’s top destination. 4 – Baltimore/Washington to Liberia Lowest fare this season: $311 While it is not exactly a new route like the others, the popular Baltimore/Washington – Liberia service is seeing a welcome increase in frequency. Up until now, D.C. sun-seekers had only a single flight available weekly: as soon as winter comes, though, they will be allowed to choose whether Saturday or Sunday is their preferred day for flying. Liberia is located on the northern coast of Costa Rica, in close proximity to the Nicoya Peninsula, where the nation’s most dramatic coastal views are. Within the municipality, some of the top attractions are the Old Quarter, dating back to the mid-19th century, the Museo del Sabanero, and the iconic Ermita de La Agonia, a white-washed colonial church. 5 – Tampa to Santo Domingo Lowest fare this season: Not yet announced The Dominican Republic (DR) capital has been largely overlooked over the years, as Punta Cana, Puerto Plata, and the like took center stage. Recently it’s been a different story, especially after American tourists discovered the wonders of colonial cities. Being the oldest European settlement on this side of the pond, Santo Domingo couldn’t be left out by Frontier. The budget airline is finally adding the colonial-era jewel to its list of Tampa destinations, being one of many to have struck a deal with the country’s Civil Aeronautics Board to increase flights to the island. Other important details are still missing, but we do have a tentative launch date: the route is opening between November 2022 and January 2023. 6 – Tampa to Punta Cana Lowest fare this season: Not yet announced Elsewhere, the Dominican Republic’s own carrier, Air Century, is eyeing the American market, has announced plans to debut a new service from Punta Cana, the island’s top sunny destination, to Tampa. Yes, soon enough, the Florida hub will have nonstop flights to both the DR’s historical capital and its famous Caribbean resort strip. We have not been able to confirm either schedule or frequency, but either way, this is great news for Punta Cana-bound Floridians, who will be on the winning side as more airlines enter a fare war in hopes of offering the most attractive and cheapest flight options. Beyond Tampa, Air Century also has its eyes set on Miami, with future routes yet to be confirmed. 7 – New York to Mexico City Lowest fare this season: $361 Mexico is a favorite for Americans going abroad no matter the time of year. Now that all restrictions placed on Americans flying into and out of the U.S. have been dropped, they have been flocking into their Southern neighbor in their droves, and not only to the Caribbean coast: places like Guanajuato and Mexico City are now top of the list. Regarding the latter, American Airlines is launching daily flights there from JFK. Flying on a Boeing 737, passengers can expect to depart the Big Apple at 8:30 pm and touch down in the Mexican capital at 12:10 am. Whether it’s American Airlines or other carriers, just be careful when booking your Mexico City flights, or you could end up landing 30 miles out of the city. 8 – Austin to Cozumel Lowest fare this season: $170 This year, American Airlines made it a top priority to boost its Caribbean flights. Besides adding two new destinations in Jamaica, the flag bearer has included Cozumel to its comprehensive flight map out of Austin, Texas. This winter, Austin residents will be able to fly directly to the paradise island without facial the usual long layovers, in just over two and a half hours. For those looking for budget vacation options amid the cost of living crisis, Cozumel with American might be a good pick, as one-way tickets can go as low as USD 170.00 on certain dates when booked in advance. The latest to have returned to this profitable market is Spirit. The low-cost brand is debuting its highly-anticipated Fort Lauderdale – Managua flights on November 30, in time for the hot and humid Southern Hemisphere summer, with airfares as low as USD 108.00 one-way. With a daily frequency, the airline plans on re-establishing and strengthening the once-severed link between the U.S. and Latin America’s safest nation. If you’re flying abroad later this year in search of some sun, make sure you double-check the entry requirements at your destination, especially when flying to Latin America, as only a limited number of countries in the region have fully removed all Covid rules. Why Nvidia’s New Lovelace Chip Is Bad News For Jay Powell – The Motley Fool https://collincountynewsonline.com/why-nvidias-new-lovelace-chip-is-bad-news-for-jay-powell-the-motley-fool/ Last week, Nvidia (NVDA -0.36%) unveiled its new RTX graphics chips based on its “Lovelace” architecture. The chips have some impressive performance metrics, making an exciting leap forward in performance over the prior Ampere generation. The downside for gamers? The highest-end RTX Lovelace 4090 graphics cards will retail for $1,599, and the 4080 cards will go for a lower range, between $899 and $1,199. That’s far more expensive than the prior Ampere 3080 generation released two years ago, initially priced at $699. CEO Jensen Huang fielded questions from concerned consumers at the conference, defending the new price, given Lovelace’s high-performance specs. But Huang also pointed to a more troubling reason for the high price — and it could have adverse consequences for the broader technology sector, the economy, and the stock market. “Moore’s Law is Dead” In response to critics, Huang declared, “Moore’s Law is dead…A 12-inch wafer is a lot more expensive today.” For those who don’t know, Moore’s Law is named after former Intel (INTC -1.96%) co-founder Gordon Moore, who posited that the number of transistors chipmakers can fit onto a silicon wafer doubles every 12 to 18 months. The result is that chips either become twice as powerful for the same price or equally as powerful for half the cost every one to two years. But these days, the cost to produce more powerful chips is going up. While the short term has seen lots of inflation due to rising material and freight costs, as it has for many other goods throughout the economy, this is, theoretically, a temporary and fixable phenomenon. But the semiconductor sector is experiencing another factor that makes this cost inflation perhaps more permanent. It comes down to physics. Chipmakers have miraculously been able to pack transistors just four nanometers apart in this year’s most advanced chips, including the Lovelace GPUs. In the years ahead, they could be three, two, or maybe even one nanometer apart. However, as transistor densities have increased and the space between transistors gets smaller and smaller, it has become more and more challenging to pack all those transistors in cost-effectively. Chip manufacturing is complicated, and the more densely packed a chip is, the tougher it is to produce without imperfections. That’s why Intel has had a difficult time in the last few years, even losing its process lead, starting with its 10nm chip a few years ago. That is driving up the capital intensity of chipmaking while also lengthening the time a wafer must go through all process steps. Basically, as transistor distances run up against the laws of physics and the capabilities of today’s semiconductor production tools, the process is getting harder. Implications for semiconductors and the economy Obviously, we are living in a period of disconcerting inflation after many years of low and stable inflation. Besides globalization, a key factor that has helped put a lid on inflation is the effect of technology. As technology progresses, it becomes a deflationary force, enabling businesses and customers to be more efficient. But that disinflationary force is largely predicated on Moore’s Law, in which computing power becomes cheaper every year. Thus, if Moore’s Law is truly “dead,” that could take away a key helper in limiting inflation. Recently, markets have been in turmoil as inflation coming out of the pandemic has skyrocketed. Its persistence is now forcing central banks to tighten their policies very quickly, sending stocks plummeting. And with developed economies now bringing some manufacturing back to their own countries from lower-cost countries due to geopolitical concerns — especially in the chip sector — that’s another deflationary force that’s going away. If Moore’s Law just so happens to be slowing down at the same time, the helpful effects of technology-enabled efficiency could be going away, too. That could mean more inflation, higher interest rates, and lower valuations for stocks and bonds. The good news — maybe Moore’s Law isn’t “dead” but aging While Moore’s Law may be “dead” in that it suggests a doubling of power performance every year, Nvidia’s Lovelace chips offer superior price performance to the prior Ampere generation. Recent specs place Lovelace’s processing capability per unit of power between two and four times that of the prior generation. So, with the 4080 chips priced between 28% and 72% more than Ampere and the 4090 priced 130% more than Ampere, customers are still getting more value per dollar spent on these chips — the relative improvements just aren’t doubling with each generation. But it’s still an improvement on a per-dollar basis. In addition to packing more transistors onto each wafer, chipmakers are also developing new techniques — like using new materials, such as the more conductive cobalt over traditional copper wire — to improve performance. Another way is through advanced packaging techniques that shorten the distance between chips or parts of a chip, which can also help boost power performance beyond the transistor count. In fact, current Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger believes that new “chiplet” architectures closely packaged can continue extending Moore’s law, apparently in disagreement with Huang. So the disinflationary forces of technology are still here. However, investors should realize this helpful disinflation may occur more slowly now. Your PC, mobile device, or, in Nvidia’s case, graphics card should still become more powerful each year — but maybe you shouldn’t expect a huge leap every two years or to pay the same price for twice the power.
