Who’s Playing
Fordham @ Ohio
Current Records: Fordham 3-0; Ohio 1-2
What to Know
Considering their sizeable disadvantage in the spread, the Fordham Rams can expect to have a real challenge on their hands Saturday. They will square off against the Ohio Bobcats on the road at 2 p.m. ET at Frank Solich Field at Peden Stadium. The Rams know how to get points on the board — the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups — so hopefully Ohio likes a good challenge.
It was a close one, but last week Fordham sidestepped the Albany Great Danes for a 48-45 win. Yes, you read that final score correctly. And yes, they were playing football.
Meanwhile, the afternoon started off rough for Ohio last week, and it ended that way, too. They suffered a grim 43-10 defeat to the Iowa State Cyclones. Ohio was in a tough position by the half, with the score already sitting at 30-3. QB Kurtis Rourke had a memorable game, but not in the way you want to be remembered: despite one touchdown, he threw two interceptions and fumbled the ball once with only 194 yards passing.
Fordham’s victory lifted them to 3-0 while Ohio’s defeat dropped them down to 1-2. Giving up four turnovers, Ohio had had trouble holding onto the ball. We’ll see if the Rams can exploit that vulnerability.

Apple IPhone 14 Pro Max Review: As Good As A Pro IPhone Can Get For Another Year XDA Developers
Apple IPhone 14 Pro Max Review: As Good As A Pro IPhone Can Get For Another Year – XDA Developers https://collincountynewsonline.com/apple-iphone-14-pro-max-review-as-good-as-a-pro-iphone-can-get-for-another-year-xda-developers/
Apple has been launching “Pro” iPhones since 2019’s iPhone 11 series, but it wasn’t until this year’s iPhone 14 Pro phones did it really put meaningful separation between the Pro and non-Pro iPhones. Some of this separation is due to true innovation: the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max introduce a whole new user interface that has generated discourse through the tech industry over the past couple of weeks, and will very likely inspire sweeping changes to Android phones’ UI in the near future. The Pro iPhones also introduce the most pixel-dense camera ever to an iPhone, one that opens up a new optical zoom length and raises the ceiling for what professionals can do in terms of photo editing.
The other separation factor, however, is due to cut-throat business tactics: Apple decided to recycle last year’s silicon for the standard iPhone 14 devices, so only the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max get the new A16 Bionic chip.
These decisions should make the Pro iPhones more popular than in previous years, and the good thing for consumers is, Apple has mostly delivered on the hype. I’ve been using the iPhone 14 Pro Max for eight days, and this is easily the best iPhone Apple has released in a while, and the one most deserving of the “Pro” moniker. The big question for me, however, is if it improves enough to sway me from my preference for Android and foldable phones.
By the way: other than screen and battery sizes, both the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are identical. So even though I have only tested the 14 Pro Max, most of this review applies to the smaller iPhone 14 Pro too.

About this review: Apple provided me with an iPhone 14 Pro Max to test. The company did not have any input in this article.
Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max: Design and Hardware
Virtually same size, construction, and in-hand feel as iPhone 13 Pro Max
The brightest screen in the industry — perfectly usable even under the harshest sunlight
Even though the iPhone 14 Pro Max brings several significant hardware improvements over the iPhone 13 Pro Max, the new phone looks and feels remarkably similar to the last generation. Overall dimensions are virtually identical save for a few millimeters and grams, and the same “Ceramic Shield” (reinforced glass) and stainless steel sides wrap around the new model. All the buttons and the alert slider are in the same spots as before. In other words, if you’ve held or seen up close an iPhone 13 Pro Max (heck, even an iPhone 12 Pro Max), the 14 Pro Max will feel very familiar.
At 240g and measuring 77.6mm (a bit over three inches) wide, this is objectively a big phone, and because of the hard flat sides, it’s even more unwieldy to hold than, say, a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. If you are considering the 14 Pro Max but have not held the 12 or 13 Pro Max before, I’d recommend checking the device out in stores to decide if you can handle the bulk. If not, the standard iPhone 14 Pro is more manageable with a weight of 206g and 71.5mm (roughly 2.8-inches) wide. Do note the flat sides with sharp corners will dig into you palm, so I’d recommend using this phone with a good case.
The biggest visual change, of course, is the much-discussed pill-shaped cutout, which replaces the notch as a means to house Apple’s TrueDepth camera system. By now almost everyone reading this would know Apple has designed an interactive UI named “Dynamic Island” that gives off the illusion that the cutout can change shapes and sizes. Dynamic Island is more of a software feature, so I’ll discuss this in the appropriate section further down.
Display
The 6.7-inch OLED display is noticeably brighter this year, with the ability to get up to 2,000 nits in brightness. This is the brightest display in any smartphone yet, and it’s so bright that when you’re using it indoors, you probably won’t need to go above 25% brightness. For most of these product shots, I actually had to lower screen brightness to 10-15% just to ensure the screen wouldn’t appear blown out (too bright) in photos.
This is the brightest display in any smartphone yet
The switch from the notch to the island cutout means the interruption in the screen is different from before. Some people, like my colleague Karthik, argue having a floating island that actually sits further down the screen than the notch is more distracting than before. I don’t disagree with him, but for some reason, I think a separated island cutout feels cleaner than a notch that connects to the top bezel.
The literal “always on” display
The iPhone 13 Pro phones had already made the switch to an LTPO panel which means the refresh rate can dynamically adjust itself to conserve energy. But Apple says this year’s Pro screens got even better at conserving energy, which allowed the company to finally introduce an Always-On Display (AOD). On Android, the AOD (first introduced to modern Android phones in 2016’s LG G6 and Samsung Galaxy S7) is almost always a black screen with text for time, notification icons, and maybe a bit more information like the next event on your calendar. Oppo’s ColorOS 13 has added some flair to the AOD by giving it a more colorful layout with full music player controls, but fundamentally, it’s still a minimal black screen with only bits of crucial information on display.
Apple’s take on this? It is to take the “Always-On” part literally: your entire lockscreen just dims a bit when the phone is locked and not in use. You can still clearly see the wallpaper and whatever widgets you’ve chosen for the lockscreen.
That Apple can do this without negatively impacting the iPhone 14 Pro phone’s battery is an impressive technical feat — it’s not just that the LTPO panel can get as low as 1Hz — plenty of Android phone screens can do this too — it’s also that Apple has dedicated a small part of its A16 Bionic processor to controlling the AOD. Apple even has built-in smart features that will automatically turn off the screen entirely if the iPhone owner is wearing an Apple Watch and has left the room in which the iPhone rests.
However technically impressive it is, I am not a fan of the AOD being this always on. To have the wallpaper visible, and even album cover art if you last had Spotify or Apple Music opened is a bit distracting for me. For example, if I’m watching a movie in a dark room and my phone is face up, I would still be able to see my wallpaper and widgets in my peripheral vision. The photo below? That’s the AOD at work — the phone was locked when the photo was snapped.
This is also an Always-On Display on a sleeping iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Silicon: A16 Bionic
The iPhone 14 Pro Max runs on the Apple A16 Bionic, it’s a 4nm, six-core SoC with 16 billion transistors (1 billion more than the A15 Bionic), and it is simply the most powerful chip in mobile, beating anything in Android, including the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1.
The A16 Bionic consists of two performance cores and four efficiency cores, with a five-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine. Perhaps more importantly, Apple increased the GPU’s memory bandwidth by 50%, which helps the new ISP (image signal processor).
What does this all mean in real-world usage? To be honest, for most normal smartphone users, it does not mean all that much. We are at a point where mobile silicon has gotten more than powerful enough for most people. If you’re like most people whose smartphone u...

Earlier this year, all the news about digital assets was about the ongoing crypto winter, the bankruptcy of lenders and other projects, and major black swan events like Axie Infinity‘s Ronin bridge hack or the collapse of Terra’s UST algorithmic stablecoin.
Surprisingly, a significant change could be observed in recent months. Despite the fact that cryptocurrency prices remain near the current market bottom, there has been quite some positive media coverage about the industry lately.
The reason for the latter is rather straightforward. In the last few months, a surging number of prominent businesses and government entities have started adopting digital assets for payments.
Accelerating business and state crypto adoption
In August, while Gucci expanded its list of supported digital assets with ApeCoin and the luxury resort chain Soneva started accepting major coins at its premises in the Maldives and Thailand, Oxford City has become the first non-league football club to integrate crypto for matchday payments.
Moreover, businesses have expanded crypto payment coverage in Australia and Argentina. Сitizens of the latter can now utilize a prepaid card brought about through a partnership between Binance and MasterCard to settle transactions at merchants via cryptocurrencies. Meanwhile, Aussies can now purchase fuel and other merchandise with their digital assets at On The Run‘s 175 premises.
At the same time, states are also increasingly realizing crypto payments’ potential use cases and benefits. Of course, central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) continue playing a major role in governments’ cryptocurrency adoption, especially if we consider how close China is to launching its digital yuan (e-CNY). While visitors and residents can leverage e-CNY to buy subway tickets in Ningbo and Beijing, bus fares can be covered with the state-issued digital asset in Guangzhou.
Clever marketing or real signs of crypto adoption?
Large brands like Gucci, Balenciaga, and Tag Heuer joining the ranks of companies like Microsoft, PlayStation, AT&T, and Subway to accept crypto is definitely good news for the industry.
However, before we imagine bitcoin (BTC) and other major cryptocurrencies “going to the moon”, we should discuss whether this is a signal of real-world, no-fooling around adoption or just a marketing plot by brands.
Fortunately, the prior statement seems to hold the truth.
Whether they like it or not, big firms are adopting cryptocurrency for payments to fulfill consumers’ surging demand. In Gucci’s case, the luxury brand likely decided to integrate ApeCoin due to its customers’ strong interest in the non-fungible tokens (NFTs) of the popular Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) project, where top celebrities like Eminem and Snoop Dogg are actively involved.
Furthermore, with an estimated 320 million crypto users worldwide, many consumers have realized the benefits of crypto payments. Compared to conventional forms of payment, digital assets are cheaper and faster to transfer due to the lack of intermediaries in the transactions. At the same time, while users have direct ownership over their funds (provided they weren’t goofing around with their private keys) with non-custodial wallets, they don’t have to use a bank account, a credit card, or other services of financial institutions to settle their payments.
For businesses, the advantages of crypto payments are even more obvious. Compared to traditional providers that typically charge between 1.5% and 3.5% for processing credit card transactions, a recent report revealed that it only costs enterprises approximately 1% to accept digital assets with a capable processor.
The savings in fees and the speed of transactions provide an excellent opportunity for merchants to reduce their bottom line. Furthermore, while they can target crypto-native prospects more efficiently, they face significantly fewer risks of unfriendly behavior, viz. fraudulent chargebacks, with digital assets-powered transactions.
Who will take the lead in crypto adoption?
In the coming months, I expect more luxury brands, especially those actively involved in the NFT and metaverse sectors, to follow in Gucci’s footsteps and adopt crypto payments. Also, as demand among merchants grows, it will likely give one more reason for payment giants like MasterCard, Visa, and PayPal to introduce new or expand their existing digital asset offerings to fulfill enterprise demand.
At the same time, as the upcoming metaverses of tech firms like Meta and Microsoft are getting one step closer to their launch, we might witness an acceleration of crypto adoption in this field as well, where said assets might be utilized as a means of payment in virtual worlds. Now, how and whether – if at all – future-proven and regulation-resistant will those new efforts be, remains to be seen. Meta still hasn’t fully recovered from the Libra blowback. How decentralized and peer-to-peer (P2P) those infrastructures are is yet another point of uncertainty.
Next year, we may also see some new government initiatives that aim to leverage the benefits of crypto payments in a similar way, spanning across the continents, from Iran through African states to Argentina’s Mendoza province. However, I believe all those efforts will be slowed down by the focus that might be diverted to CBDC development.
For that reason, I expect businesses to take the lead in crypto payments adoption for the next few months – or at least until China completes the nationwide launch of the digital yuan, opening up the way to millions of new crypto users.

U.S. Rep. Mayra Flores Says She Fired Aide After Sexual Harassment Allegations – The Texas Tribune https://collincountynewsonline.com/u-s-rep-mayra-flores-says-she-fired-aide-after-sexual-harassment-allegations-the-texas-tribune/

U.S. Rep. Mayra Flores, R-Los Indios, said Saturday that she fired a former staffer after he was accused of sexual harassment, though her campaign previously said he had resigned.
Aron Peña, who served as district director for the newest Texas Republican in Congress, left the campaign after far-right website Current Revolt and Texas Public Radio reported on sexual harassment allegations against him spanning decades. The Texas Tribune also reported earlier this month that the Texas Republican Party had investigated Peña over sexual harassment allegations and that he was accused of touching and kissing an intern without her consent.
Peña dismissed the allegations as politically motivated, but Flores’ campaign called the accusations “serious and not a reflection of our values” in response to the Tribune’s reporting.
In response to a question Saturday at The Texas Tribune Festival on workplace sexual harassment in politics, Flores said Peña had been fired.
“First thing we were made notified, he was gone,” Flores said. “We will not tolerate any of that behavior.”
Flores spokesperson Daniel Bucheli previously told the Tribune in a statement, “We addressed the allegations as soon as we were made aware, and Mr. Peña resigned.”
Peña did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Flores’ Saturday remarks.
Speaking of sexual harassers, Flores said, “We fire them. My opponent hires them” — an apparent dig at U.S. Rep. Vicente Gonzalez, Flores’ opponent in her competitive race for the 34th Congressional Sistrict. Gonzalez came under fire after his campaign paid for advertising on a Texas political blog that employed racist and sexist language to describe Flores.
Gonzalez denied knowing about the blog content at the time and vowed not to give it any more campaign money. Flores has since insisted that Gonzalez hired the blogger to sexually harass her with racist tropes.
Flores was speaking at a panel with U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales, R-San Antonio, and Texas Monthly editor Jack Herrera on Republican gains in the traditionally Democratic stronghold of South Texas. National Republicans are zeroing in on the region as rich fodder for new GOP seats, tapping into the area’s economic concerns, conservative social values and proximity to the border.

Happening Sept. 22-24 in downtown Austin, this year’s TribFest features more than 25 virtual conversations with guests like Eric Adams, Pete Souza, Jason Kander and many others. Reason For Closed Tiny Council Meetings: Technology MidlandToday
Reason For Closed Tiny Council Meetings: Technology – MidlandToday https://collincountynewsonline.com/reason-for-closed-tiny-council-meetings-technology-midlandtoday/
Livestreaming component of township hardware busted during CIVUD, difficult replacement part for hybrid meetings the reason for delay in re-opening to public, says staff
What was interesting was that Mayor George Cornell was ill, attending the virtual committee of the whole meeting through a remote hybrid process from his own home, when he brought up the discussion.
At the recent meeting, Tiny council heard from staff as to why the council chambers hadn’t been open to the public since the COVID-19 pandemic had changed the way municipalities handled in-person meetings.
“The technical issues are stemming from a part that we ordered,” said director of finance/treasurer Haley Leblond. “It’s a motherboard that allows the system in the council chambers to have electronic participation, as well as in-council participation, without the need for extra laptops, without the need for your headsets, people can go up and do deputations to council at the podium. This specific part is very hard to get due to COVID and its coming from China,” she added citing delivery issues.
Without disclosing the cost of the component, staff merely stated that it was expensive to replace.
A hybrid workaround was discussed, but Leblond advised that the training period for the public to use chamber equipment for deputations as an example, along with the requirement for technology like laptops and headphones, as well as the cleaning procedures between public usage also consisted of the challenge.
Cornell followed up by asking if there could be a return to the normality of pre-pandemic meetings that were live-streamed.
“My understanding of part of the challenge,” replied CAO Robert Lamb, “is the motherboard that went down on us is the part that allows it to be live-streamed.
“That is a part that, as they were doing updates and changes to our system a year ago, just stopped working.” Lamb also explained that while on back order, the company had stated the component would arrive shortly only to delay it further in a repeating manner. “At the moment we do not have the ability to live-stream other than the way we are currently doing it.”
Lamb noted that the vendor had not provided an estimated time of arrival for the ordered part, and exploration for different solutions could potentially double what was originally anticipated.
“There will be a budget implication – hopefully not one that is above the lame duck threshold that we’ll also have to take into consideration – because we did not budget for this type of technology above and beyond the repair that’s currently in the budget,” said Lamb.
Coun. Cindy Hastings asked if there was any similar equipment that could be temporarily rented in the interim, giving a small chuckle as if the response would be a similar technological deficiency. However, Leblond appeared genuinely surprised by the question and gave it some thought.
“That option, I have not explored,” admitted Leblond. “That’s a great question. I’ll certainly ask the vendor; I would have thought they would have offered that solution if there was one to be offered.”
Coun. Gibb Wishart, while sympathetic to in-person attendance, urged safety over all other aspects. His remarks prompted Deputy Mayor Walma to ask clerk Sue Walton if livestreaming could be removed from the chamber process, similar to pre-pandemic meetings.
Walton noted that the formal record of council and committees was through recorded minutes, but said she would need time to consider the policies on livestreaming; Walma pulled back stating that the trade off from livestreaming would be public access to the meetings. CAO Lamb offered to extend the conversation to the next committee of the whole to get a full update.
With the municipal term coming to a close and many committees only having roughly one meeting remaining before next month’s election, council additionally approved giving the various committees the option to return to an in-person meeting at their discretion as a gesture for those wanting to see each other face-to-face possibly for one last time.
Archives of council meetings are available to view on Tiny Township’s YouTube channel.

Senate and governor
We’ll start our survey of the 2022 primary losses with a brief look at the Senate and gubernatorial races. Why will this just be a brief look? Well, with one potential exception, all incumbent senators and governors who are running for reelection this cycle have made it past the primary stage of the election.
The one potential exception (and it is not an especially likely one) is Louisiana’s Republican Sen. John Kennedy. Louisiana conducts its all-party jungle primary when other states are holding their general election. If Kennedy doesn’t win outright in November, he’d go into a December runoff as a heavy favorite.
Though there was something of a protest vote against some members — particularly on the GOP side, where established senators like John Boozman (R-AR), Chuck Grassley (R-IA), and John Thune (R-SD) each won their primaries with less than 75% — none of the partisan Senate primaries that featured incumbents were especially close. We say partisan primaries because in Alaska, moderate Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski finished just over 6 points ahead of her Donald Trump-backed opponent, Kelly Tshibaka (R), in last month’s “tundra primary.” The ranked-choice general election will be in November, but for our purposes, Murkowski has at least made it through the primary season.
In any case, the calm on the GOP side represented a change from 2014, which was the most recent cycle where the Senate flipped to Republicans — something that could happen again this year. That year, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) saw several of his veteran members struggle: Sens. Pat Roberts (R-KS), Thad Cochran (R-MS), and Lamar Alexander (R-TN) all won their primaries by single-digit margins over Tea Party-aligned insurgents (McConnell, among others, had a real primary, too, although he won by a more decisive margin). While some GOP candidates for open or Democratic-held seats may be giving national Republicans headaches this cycle, Republican incumbents at least seem to be in good standing with their states’ primary electorates.
Late last year, as we looked forward to the 2022 gubernatorial contests, we wrote that while some Democratic incumbents may face challenging general elections, the primary phase of the election presented more potential pitfalls for Republican governors. While the first part of that analysis still holds true — there are 7 Democratic governors who are in races that we rate as either Toss-up or Leans Democratic — GOP incumbents, on the whole, did surprisingly well in primaries.
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R), rather impressively, beat back a challenge from former Sen. David Perdue, Trump’s choice, with over 70% of the vote. In Idaho, Gov. Brad Little (R) faced 7 opponents, the most prominent of whom was his far-right (and Trump-endorsed) lieutenant governor, Janice McGeachin. Little won with 53% to McGeachin’s 32%, carrying everything but a few panhandle counties.
Now, we’ll move on to the House. In 2020, we noted that that cycle had seen more turnover than usual for a cycle that didn’t immediately follow redistricting. That dynamic has essentially carried over to 2022, which obviously is a year where redistricting affected things. Assuming there are no losing incumbents in Louisiana, 15 members will have lost primaries this year — that is the most since the 1992 cycle, which was another redistricting year.
The pro-impeachment Republicans
One of the most sure-fire ways to lose a primary this cycle was to be a Republican who supported impeaching Trump. Of the 10 Republicans who supported the post-Jan. 6. impeachment of the former president, 6 ran for reelection, and only Reps. David Valadao (R, CA-22) and Dan Newhouse (R, WA-4) have made it past primary season — Valadao may still lose the general election, as he is running in a Biden +13 seat, while Newhouse, who faces a Democrat in a red seat, is a heavy favorite.
In June, Rep. Tom Rice (R, SC-7) was the first pro-impeachment Republican lose a primary. His district, centering on retiree-heavy Horry County, was Trump’s best South Carolina district back in the 2016 primary. In a result that set the tone for the rest of the primary season, state Rep. Russell Fry beat Rice outright, 51%-25%.
At least one of the primaries in which a pro-impeachment Republican lost had clear general election implications. Going into the Michigan primary, we rated MI-3 as a Toss-up — had Rep. Peter Meijer been renominated, we would have, at least, kept it there. But a few weeks ago, we moved this Biden +9 seat into the Leans Democratic category. Democrats have a heralded nominee there, and the Republican nominee, John Gibbs, may be too far-right for the area. Similarly, Republicans in southwestern Washington went with a more unproven candidate: in the all-party primary, retired Green Beret Joe Kent finished slightly ahead of 6-term Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler. Democrat Marie Perez placed first and will face Kent in November. We are keeping this Trump +4 seat at Likely Republican.
Rep. Liz Cheney (R, WY-AL) was easily the most vocally anti-Trump Republican member running for reelection. In her primary, Cheney carried only the Democratic-leaning areas in Wyoming — which, given the state’s dark red hue, is to say that she lost in a landslide.
Member vs. member races
Because of reapportionment, election cycles ending “2” often see the highest turnover in primaries — as districts are added or subtracted from a state, incumbents can end up fighting for the same turf. This cycle, there were 6 contests that ensued from those situations.
On the Republican side, West Virginia Rep. David McKinley and Illinois Rep. Rodney Davis were both mainstream members of the GOP conference who lost to Trump-backed members in solid red seats. Though McKinley represented more of the newly-created district (it is essentially the northern half of West Virginia) he carried his homebase of Wheeling and not much else. Rep. Alex Mooney, the winner of that race, has been mentioned as a potential 2024 Senate candidate, so WV-2 may see another contested primary then. In downstate Illinois, Rep. Mary Miller defeated Davis by 15 points. On an interesting geographical note, Miller’s best margins came in part of the district that was new to her (that area is known as the “Forgottonia” region of the state).
As with the Republican member-vs-member situations, none of the comparable Democratic primaries were especially close. In Georgia, Republicans made 2-term Rep. Lucy McBath’s northern Atlanta-area seat considerably redder. She moved over to run in the new GA-7, which came more from first-term Rep. Carolyn Bourdeaux’s seat — McBath won 63%-31%. Similarly, in Chicagoland, a first-term Democrat was beat out by a slightly more senior colleague, despite a geographic edge. In 2020, Rep. Marie Newman (D) got to Congress by primarying out conservative Democrat Dan Lipinski, only to lose her next primary to fellow Rep. Sean Casten in the new IL-6. As a new, heavily Hispanic seat was created in the area, Casten and Newman were thrown together. In Oakland County, Michigan, Rep. Haley Stevens beat out Rep. Andy Levin. Levin was criticized for not being a “team player” and running in the light red MI-10, which was more familiar to him. Finally, after a Democratic gerrymander was thrown out in New York, Rep. Jerry Nadler opted to run against Rep. Carolyn Maloney in the new NY-12. The contest was rare in that it pitted 2 committee chairs against each other: Nadler leads the Judiciary Committee while Maloney chairs the Oversight Committee. In any case, Nadler won with a majority in a multi-candidate field.
As an interesting aside, of those Democratic intraparty primaries, only the GA-7 contest came about as a result of Republicans seeking to punish Democrats. In fact, redistricting in the 4 states that saw Democratic member-on-member primaries were all controlled by different actors: Republicans controlled Georgia, Democrats mapped Illinois, Michigan now has an independent commission, and New York’s map was drawn by a court-appointed special master.
Other House losses
Though they didn’t face off against fellow incumbents, 2 other Democrats lost for redistricting-related reasons. When New York’s court-drawn map was relea...
Uniworld Is Accelerating Its Partnership With Luxury Rail Operator Golden Eagle Travel Weekly
Uniworld Is Accelerating Its Partnership With Luxury Rail Operator Golden Eagle – Travel Weekly https://collincountynewsonline.com/uniworld-is-accelerating-its-partnership-with-luxury-rail-operator-golden-eagle-travel-weekly/
Uniworld Boutique River Cruises added a second cruise and rail itinerary in Europe this year, a combination that is growing in popularity for travelers in Europe but is so far offered by few river cruise lines.
Uniworld, finding success with its Cruise & Rail program and its partnership with Golden Eagle Luxury Trains, launched a new itinerary this year, Castles of Transylvania & Enchanting Danube, with two departures — one lasting 12 days, the other 13 — that enable guests to explore parts of Eastern Europe.
The Cruise & Rail program was launched by the line in 2021, prompted by its desire to diversify its offerings and offer guests more of Europe.
Uniworld CEO Ellen Bettridge said its partnership with Golden Eagle was a fresh, new way to give guests the opportunity to explore a variety of destinations across several countries in one trip with various modes of transport.
“Every year, we focus on innovation in the river cruise space,” Bettridge said of how its partnership with Golden Eagle developed. “To bring this programming to life, we needed a partner that aligned with our five-star standards, and we’re fortunate to find that in Golden Eagle Luxury Trains through existing industry relationships.”

What sets Uniworld’s itineraries apart is that the rail journey is part of the trip itself rather than a pre- or post-river cruise extension.

Even though there are a variety of luxury rail options, from day trains to overnight sleepers located in the destinations Uniworld sails globally — such as India and Peru — Uniworld said Europe was the obvious, and best choice, for the company to lean into its rail venture.
“The region that we’re most familiar with, Europe, was the perfect place to start,” said Bettridge, adding that the first Cruise & Rail itineraries complemented the line’s newly transformed S.S. La Venezia, venturing to destinations that Uniworld had not visited before.
But the benefits of cruise and rail combinations don’t merely extend to the scenic advantage of seeing destinations beyond the rivers. Cruise and rail options can also be a practical alternative in an increasingly warmer and changing climate.
Low water levels plagued nearly all river cruise lines sailing Europe’s Rhine and Danube rivers from late July through most of August. Excessive heat and drought conditions depleted waters to unnavigable levels along some stretches of the rivers. Late-summer rain eventually helped replenish the rivers to navigable levels, but not before many cruise departures were canceled, delayed or modified.
Cruise & Rail, Bettridge said, “enables us to appeal to a wide range of travelers, offer a product unlike anything else on the market and adapt when necessary.”
Luxury train add-on is popular
Uniworld is among the few river cruise companies to embed a rail trip within an existing cruise itinerary that isn’t part of a pre- or post-cruise extension package. On most lines, travelers have to independently book a luxury rail component, which suppliers say is increasingly popular.
“We’re doing tons of pre- and post-river cruise trips this year,” said Frank Marini, CEO of Railbookers Group, a rail vacation packager that specializes in customizable FIT itineraries. “There are a lot in Switzerland — that’s a big piece of where we’re seeing these pre- and post-river cruise trips travelers are taking.”
Most river cruises that travel to Switzerland typically begin or end in Basel, located on the Rhine, and transfer by coach or rail to begin a rail journey. Uniworld’s initial itinerary, with its 14-day Milan, Venice & the Swiss Alps and 12-day Venice & the Swiss Alps departures, starts or ends its Golden Eagle train experience in Zurich.
The 13-day version of the company’s newest Cruise & Rail itinerary begins with an overnight stay in Budapest, followed by four nights on the Golden Eagle train and then a return to Budapest to embark on a seven-day river cruise on the Danube through Austria and before ending in Passau, Germany. The 12-day Enchanting Danube & Castles of Transylvania travels in the opposite direction and does not include an overnight stay in Budapest.

Wake Forest delivers a much-needed answer
1Q: Clemson 14, Wake Forest 7
A couple of pass interference penalties on Clemson put Wake Forest in scoring position early and Sam Hartman dropped a 36-yard touchdown pass right in the break basket for Jahmal Banks to cut the Tigers’ lead to seven. That’s a 3-play, 75-yard drive that took less than a minute off the clock for significantly changed the energy in Winston-Salem as the Demon Deacons have made it known they have the weapons to go back-and-forth with Clemson in a shootout.

DJU off to a hot start, Tigers rolling early
1Q: Clemson 14, Wake Forest 0
DJ Uiagalelei has completed his first seven pass attempts for 104 yards and two touchdowns after a 41-yard strike to Braylon Spector. That throw followed a 30-yard pass on 3rd-and-21, marking two times that Wake Forest has seemingly had a Clemson drive stopped only to see it extended and eventually end in a touchdown. It’s too early to go all-in on a danger zone declaration, but this is the exact opposite of an ideal start for Dave Clawson’s crew.

Clemson strikes first
1Q: Clemson 7, Wake Forest 0
The Tigers defense forced a punt on Wake Forest’s opening possession, then deliver the first score of the game on the ensuing drive. There were two huge swings in the game on the drive, the first being a xx-yard run by Will Shipley to move Clemson into Wake Forest territory and the second being a defensive pass interference call on Wake Forest that kept the drive alive after it appeared the Demon Deacons had a third down stop.

Wake Forest will get the ball first, meaning we’ll get a very early look at how the Demon Deacons’ offensive line is set to hold up against Clemson’s defensive front. Finding more time for Sam Hartman in the backfield is the key to Wake delivering its standard production on offense.

Both teams dealing with notable injuries
Per ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Wake Forest will be without top cornerback Caelen Carson because of a leg injury suffered in last week’s win against Liberty. But Clemson has its own issues in the secondary with starting safety Andrew Makuba, starting corner Sheridan Jones and key rotation corner Malcolm Greene all missing from the Tigers’ travel roster. With both teams having attrition in the defensive backfield, we could be in for a high-scoring affair in this key ACC Atlantic battle.

Global Experts In Dubai To Demystify The Metaverse Unveil Its Power To Revolutionise Services Gulf News
Global Experts In Dubai To Demystify The Metaverse, Unveil Its Power To Revolutionise Services – Gulf News https://collincountynewsonline.com/global-experts-in-dubai-to-demystify-the-metaverse-unveil-its-power-to-revolutionise-services-gulf-news/
Dubai: The inaugural Dubai Metaverse Assembly will bring together over 300 regional and international experts who will discuss the potential applications of metaverse and its impact on humanity at Dubai Future Museum on September 28 and 29.
Organised by Dubai Future Foundation (DFF), under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, the two-day global event will dive deep on the experiences or key sectors such as aviation, logistics, retail, education and healthcare.
Local and international experts will also talk about the world’s readiness for metaverse and how it can improve services and enhance the quality of human life.
Hamad Al Shirawi
There are pressing questions about the metaverse. Many do not understand how it will progress or how it can change the world. To get a preview of the upcoming Dubai Metaverse Assembly, Gulf News spoke with Hamad Al Shirawi, director of Dubai Metaverse Assembly, who also shared his insights on Dubai’s role in advancing the understanding of metaverse and its applications.
Here are excerpts of the interview with Al Shirawi:
Platform for pioneers and experts
“Dubai Metaverse Assembly is part of DFF’s effort to address latest trends and understand their implications and uses, as well as provide a global platform for dialogues and knowledge exchange focusing on the future of humanity. We aim to facilitate synergy amongst various entities, global organisations and industry experts, to identify the challenges and opportunities that the future holds, to explore its potential, and to develop action plans to address them.
“The event will explore how this revolutionary technology can be deployed across vital sectors to create a better future and quality of life for humanity.
What is the metaverse?
Metaverse is an online, 3D, virtual universe connecting users in almost all aspects of their lives. It connects multiple platforms – like the internet containing different websites – and made accessible through a single portal.
The metaverse is not yet fully in existence but it dubbed as the future iteration of the internet that will allow users – through their avatars – to work, meet, game, and socialise in these 3D virtual spaces.
One can think of online network games where players from around the world play the same game together as a simple example of the metaverse.
“The announcement of the Dubai Metaverse Assembly follows the launch of the Dubai Metaverse Strategy, which aims to strengthen Dubai’s position as a global capital of advances technologies by investing in promising economic opportunities, adopting, and deploying Metaverse technology, and developing digital infrastructure that supports global transformations and the digital economy.
Impact on humanity
“Experts believe that the metaverse could enable humanity to redefine how business is done. This is very exciting. The potential impact of the metaverse extends well beyond business, and humans stand a lot to gain from a social perspective.
“Metaverse can provide a shared environment and economy for everyone, regardless of their location. Humans around the world can become connected like never before.
“Virtually every sector will benefit from metaverse technologies. These technologies will pave the way for smart societies of the future, digital government services, improved research and studies, better consumer experiences, enhanced e-learning tools and specialised training. This is just a handful of areas which can be transformed by the immersive worlds of the metaverse.
“The economic opportunities are similarly significant. Metaverse will provide integrated digital shopping experiences, open new horizons in e-gaming and entertainment, and create promising opportunities for broader uses of blockchain technologies, non-fungible assets and digital assets in general.
What to expect at Dubai Metaverse Assembly
“The assembly’s programme includes three main tracks – Educate, Inspire, and Contribute. The Educate track will consist of in-depth keynotes and panels on metaverse. Inspire track will showcase immersive experiences and Contribute track will include closed workshops.
A promotional visual depicting the upcoming assembly in Dubai Image Credit: Supplied
“Here are a few sneak peeks: Topics will include the future of gaming, the future of nations, the role of government, and building the backbone for Web 3.0 technologies. Speakers will include world-leading experts, futurists, and innovators – individuals from leading organisations such as the World Economic Forum, Meta, Mastercard, Binance, Accenture, SandBox, Polygon and others who are all at the vanguard of this momentous technological revolution.
Role of Dubai in advancing metaverse
“Dubai is well-positioned to discuss the metaverse and create the groundwork for harnessing its full potential. Dubai Metaverse Strategy aims to turn Dubai into one of the world’s top 10 metaverse economies as well as a global hub for the metaverse community.
“The strategy aims to build on Dubai’s achievement of attracting more than 1,000 companies operating in blockchain and the metaverse. It also promotes Dubai’s ambitions to support more than 40,000 virtual jobs by 2030. This will further boost Dubai’s economy and support the UAE government’s vision of increasing the number of blockchain companies five-fold as part of its efforts to create a digital economy.
“The UAE is already home to some 1,000 companies operating in blockchain and metaverse. Dubai is at the heart of this ecosystem and will continue to provide an environment in which companies in this space can thrive.”

Dogecoin Price Up 10% – Which Meme Coin Will Pump Next? – Cryptonews https://collincountynewsonline.com/dogecoin-price-up-10-which-meme-coin-will-pump-next-cryptonews/
Dogecoin has been on a slightly bullish pump during the past 24 hours. According to CoinGecko, the largest memecoin has gained by 10% within 24 hours to trade at $0.068 at the time of writing.
Dogecoin jumps 10% in 24 hours
Dogecoin seems to be under significant buying pressure, and the indicators show increased potential for an uptrend. The bullish gains have appeared within the past 24 hours, and if the Dogecoin community can maintain it, then notable gains could be seen in the coming weeks and months.
Dogecoin’s trading volumes during the past 24 hours have been high, which could explain the bullish price movement. The 24-hour trading volumes currently stand at $960 million, with its market cap hitting $8.7 billion, ranking it the tenth-largest cryptocurrency by this metric.
Dogecoin has been on a steep decline this year as the bears have erased most of the gains this memecoin has made. DOGE has dropped by 90% from an all-time high created in May last year. In 2021, Dogecoin reacted strongly to Elon Musk’s tweets, but this seems to be no longer the case, as bullish momentum is yet to be created.
The Relative Strength Index (RSI) shows a strong bullish momentum for Dogecoin. As seen above, Dogecoin’s RSI currently stands at 53, showing buyers actively buying the token to take advantage of the ongoing price gains.
The other indicator that also shows bullish signs is the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD). The MACD line is currently on the signal line, with the earlier movements showing that bears have been losing control. The bullish momentum could be maintained if Doge holds support levels above $0.06.
On the other hand, there is also a possibility that declines could be on the way. Dogecoin’s current bullish gains do not show signs of being sustained, with the resistance level of $0.068 being one of the hindrances to a continued uptrend. Therefore, there is a high possibility that DOGE will consolidate and return to trading at $0.059.
The 24-hour bullish gains made by Dogecoin follow a mention of the memecoin by the co-founder of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin. Buterin appeared on a video chat at the Mainnet conference, where he said that he was hopeful that the memecoin network would migrate to a proof-of-stake blockchain.
Buterin also added that “I hope that Zcash moves over. I am also very hopeful that Dogecoin is going to evolve over to proof of stake at some point soon.”
The Ethereum Merge was considered one of the most successful events in the blockchain sector. The memecoin community is now hopeful that such a transition will trigger more gains, which is the reason behind the momentum to buy Dogecoin.
The memecoin continues to grow
The memecoin community has grown significantly over the past year. However, the current growth is being fuelled by one of the newest memecoins in the market, Tamadoge. Tamadoge completed one of the most successful presales in crypto history that raised %19 million.
The latest news from the Tamadoge team is that the memecoin will debut on the OKX exchange on Tuesday, September 27. The listing could deliver 100X gains, given that OKX is the second-largest cryptocurrency exchange globally by trading volumes.

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept 24 (Reuters) – The United States will not clinch the Presidents Cup on Saturday but continued to close in on the golden trophy after splitting the morning foursomes (alternate shot) 2-2 with a scrappy International team desperate to get back into the fight.
The U.S. have dominated the biennial competition with an 11-1-1 record and started the day with an 8-2 lead and in position to register a Presidents Cup first – clinching the Cup on Saturday.
With two sessions scheduled for a marathon day (foursomes and fourballs) the Americans had targeted the 15 1/2 total points needed to claim the title for a 12th time and extend their unbeaten run on home soil.

But the Cup will be decided in Sunday’s singles no matter happens in the afternoon fourballs after Australian Adam Scott and Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama beat Collin Morikawa and Cameron Young 3&2 blocking the Americans from getting the job done early.
The Internationals got another point when the South Korean pair of K.H. Lee and Kim Joo-hyung took down the U.S. all-star pairing of world number one Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns 2&1 but the task ahead of captain Trevor Immelman’s men remains a daunting one.
The U.S. will take a commanding 10-4 lead into the afternoon fourballs with the underdog Internationals trying to chip away at that advantage to have any realistic chance of pulling off an upset on Sunday.
A long day began in the dawn chill and dewy fairways but the early start did not stop fans from packing into the massive first tee stands, the pro-American crowd sending off captain Davis Love III’s men to what they hoped would be another day of domination.
Major winners Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas were sent off first and set the tone powering to a 4&3 win over South Korea’s Im Sung-jae and Canadian Corey Connors, improving their record at Quail Hollow to 3-0-0.
Tony Finau and Max Homa would beat South Korea’s Kim Si-woo and Australian Cam Davis to add another point to the American cause before the U.S. charge ran out of steam.
Partnered in every session, Scheffler and Burns again failed to deliver a win as the Koreans broke open a tight match winning holes 15 and 16 to snatch a full point.
Young and Morikawa had appeared on their way to win leading 1-up at the turn but suffered a back nine collapse as Scott and Matsuyama won four straight holes from the 10th to turn the match.

The Collaboration Thats Connecting The Unconnected The Hill
The Collaboration That’s Connecting The Unconnected – The Hill https://collincountynewsonline.com/the-collaboration-thats-connecting-the-unconnected-the-hill/
When I launched Broadcom in the early 1990s with the goal of revolutionizing digital connectivity, it was necessary to work closely with governments around the world, starting with cable set-top boxes. This new class of technology that Broadcom and others brought to market over the next 30 years were transformative and complex, presenting policymakers with a steep learning curve that, at times, led to delays in or barriers to innovation.
In response, some argued that governments can best help technological innovation by getting out of the way, but innovators such as Broadcom know it’s far better when policymakers and regulators keep pace with innovation and help make new life-enhancing technologies possible. When policymakers and innovators collaborate, they can unleash the future of the tech industry, bolster the broader economy, and improve the lives of billions.
I’ve seen first-hand how public-private collaboration has accelerated connectivity innovation, and there are compelling opportunities to continue this joint approach that has served the public so well. A great example of this from Broadcom’s early years took place when the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) set aside wireless spectrum for unlicensed use. This spectrum became an innovation sandbox for Broadcom, turning Bluetooth and Wi-Fi into two of the most successful wireless technologies of all time.
Decades later, in April 2020, the FCC made another important policy decision for connectivity when it voted to allocate 1,200 MHz of spectrum in the 6 GHz band for unlicensed use, tapping a crucial spectrum band for making new, faster services publicly available. This groundbreaking act was the culmination of several years of public-private collaboration, with great leadership from then-FCC Chair Ajit Pai and Commissioners Jessica Rosenworcel, Brendan Carr, and Geoffrey Starks, along with bipartisan congressional advocacy spearheaded by Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-Calif.), and others.
The impact of the FCC’s decision dramatically demonstrated the important role Wi-Fi plays in American society. Almost immediately, hundreds of new devices and services entered the U.S. market, including new internet gateways, smartphones, and laptops. Whether in urban or rural areas, Wi-Fi is essential to closing the digital divide, and proved to be one of the global economy’s virtual connective tissues during the pandemic.
And this is just the beginning. After shipping more than 1.3 billion Wi-Fi 6 and 6E chips over a two-year period, Broadcom was recently first to release a family of next generation Wi-Fi 7 chipsets, and thanks to advancements brought by unlicensed spectrum, improvements in health care, education, live entertainment, among others, are just around the corner.
How much the U.S. economy will benefit from the FCC’s April 2020 decision will partly depend on a more recent milestone of Washington action that kept pace with tech innovation: new bipartisan investments in broadband infrastructure. In addition, as part of the recently enacted CHIPS and Science Act, Congress directed the Government Accountability Office to recommend ways the government can accelerate migration to leading edge technology, starting with broadband. Expediting this migration would allow us to better connect the unconnected and accelerate the introduction of new 5G services. This will ensure America continues to lead the world in advanced technology while achieving greater energy efficiency and climate goals.
If there is one constant in the tech industry, it’s that innovation never stops and momentum drives progress. In implementing initiatives on unlicensed spectrum and broadband infrastructure, U.S. policymakers stayed abreast of technological change and unleashed innovation. And there are several ways the public and private sectors can build on those successes. First, the U.S. government can advocate for making unlicensed 6 GHz spectrum available on a global scale. Second, as part of her efforts to close the digital divide through equitable access, FCC Chair Rosenworcel is seeking to deploy Wi-Fi on school buses — a brilliant and timely initiative to help students keep pace with their classroom work. She and her FCC colleagues are also in a position to build on the historic April 2020 decision by completing a current rule designed to enable portable device operations for applications such as augmented and virtual reality.
Finally, policymakers seeking to look beyond the policy and technology horizon should consider expanding unlicensed spectrum availability into the 7 GHz band. Doing so would create yet another innovation sandbox for next generation Wi-Fi and other forms of connectivity.
During my tenure at Broadcom, including now as its Board Chair, I have been both participant and witness to a generation of the most transformative innovations in our history. The most rewarding of those breakthroughs came alongside or in response to collaborations with policymakers, creating economic opportunity, educational accessibility, and societal equity for billions all over the globe.
The best is yet to come, which is why it has never been more important for policymakers and innovators like Broadcom to deepen their partnerships and work in lockstep to futureproof our means for connectivity and close the digital divide.
Henry Samueli is founder and chairman at Broadcom.

September is a busy month for city and county officials when it comes to budgeting money.
This is the month budgets and tax rates for the upcoming fiscal year are publicly discussed and considered for passage.
For the Collin County Commissioners meeting on Sept 12, a majority of the agenda was centered around both the proposed tax rate and budget, related public hearings and a vote by the court.
Both the FY 2023 budget and tax rate were passed, the budget by a 5-0 vote and the tax rate by a 3-2 vote.
For the vote on adoption of the tax rate, both Judge Chris Hill and Commissioner Pct. 3, Darrell Hale cast dissenting votes.

Taking Steps To Combat Obesity In San Joaquin County Stockton Record
Taking Steps To Combat Obesity In San Joaquin County – Stockton Record https://collincountynewsonline.com/taking-steps-to-combat-obesity-in-san-joaquin-county-stockton-record/
Guneet Gill, Stephen Gong-Guy, Parvati Iyer, David Ojcius | Special to The Stockton Record
While popular fast-food chains such as Raising Cane’s and In-N-Out continue to open locations and thrive on hungry stomachs in the North San Joaquin County district, the combined overweight and obesity rate has climbed to greater than 65% of the local population, a historic high.
By emphasizing certain priority communities and engaging with the community to address socioeconomic and ethnic disparities which are at the root of the obesity epidemic, it is not too late to reverse the rates. Exceeding the obesity rate of California by almost 7%, the San Joaquin County public health services have started numerous initiatives to promote active and healthier lifestyles for all members of their community.
Increased obesity rates in San Joaquin County can be attributed to prevalent risk factors such as the lack of access to care, food insecurity, and mental and behavioral health. In the 2022 Community Health Assessment of San Joaquin County, regions were identified as priority neighborhoods recognizing the need for addressing socioeconomic disparities, transportation, housing, and climate issues among other factors.
Physical activity and nutrition are important factors in preventing obesity and obesity related diseases. However, residents in San Joaquin County experience higher rates of poor physical health and heart disease. Not only does obesity occur at higher rates among the adult population, but also among the youth of the county. For children living in San Joaquin County in grades five, seven and nine5, 7, and 9, it was reported that the obesity rate was at 43% compared to the California average of 40%.
Currently, the San Joaquin Valley has two primary publicly funded and operated public health service programs to combat the rising rates of obesity. The first is the Network Campaign, a project specifically focused on advocating for individualized nutrition and exercise targeted toward low-income residents. This program utilizes a social media campaign and afterschool programs to reach students in lower socioeconomic schools, and partners with those schools to integrate healthy eating habits into the school curriculum. Success has been found particularly in food demonstrations and integration with physical education courses.
The second program is the south Stockton-based Central California Regional Obesity Prevention Program. This program promotes policy and environmental changes to establish the foundation for building healthy habits, working to create safe play areas and access to healthy food.
In 2009, San Joaquin County established an Obesity and Chronic Disease Prevention Task Force in order to decrease the incidence and prevalence of obesity in the county. While the recognition and formation of an organization to combat obesity is a huge step, effective implementation and consistency will be the true test.
San Joaquin County Public Health Services also provides educational resources to introduce healthy eating and active habits at a young age. They partner with Leah’s Pantry to provide nutrition and food preparation classes. The CATCH program, or Coordinated Approach to Child Health, provides a platform to encourage families to engage in physical activity.
Moreover, CalFresh benefits, a food assistance program provided by the California Department of Social Services, is also a resource available for individuals and families with low income. This food assistance program provides monthly food benefits and is intended to promote healthier eating by purchasing nutritious food such as fruits and vegetables. CalFresh benefits can also be used at farmers markets, offering individuals with access to fresh produce. Interested readers should visit their website: getcalfresh.org.
As different fast food and fast casual dining options become more popular than the previous mom-and-pop shops and more traditional farm-to-table restaurants, further efforts should be made to enhance educational programs that promote healthy lifestyles and support policies that aid underserved communities to combat the widespread and harmful effects of obesity.

The 2022 Presidents Cup moves into the weekend as the U.S. commands a substantial 8-2 lead over the International team. Matching the 2017 Presidents Cup for the largest lead at the halfway point, the Americans will look to put the visiting team to bed as a potential eight points are up for grabs between the two sessions on Saturday.
Needing only 7.5 points to capture its 12th Presidents Cup in 14 attempts, the U.S. will first send out its formidable duo of Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth. The two good friends have been electric around Quail Hollow Club the first two days and have garnered a 2-0-0 record alongside each other. While the likelihood of the U.S. closing out the International title is slim, captain Trevor Immelman’s squad will have to keep its head up if it aims to claw back into this event. Despite the large deficit, five of the first 10 matches have reached the 18th hole through the first two days.
Unfortunately for the internationals, they have only captured one victory and two ties in those five matches. If they expect to make this Presidents Cup more competitive in the latter stages, not only will the breaks need to go their way, but more putts will need to fall.

Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama on the board
The International team will play on Sunday with the Cup technically still up in the air as they have avoided losing on Saturday by winning one of the first four matches off in alternate shot. Hideki Matsuyama and Adam Scott, the two most accomplished golfers on the International side, finally got a full point to cut the U.S. lead to 9-3 with two matches still on the course right now.

JT and Spieth undefeated through three matches
The U.S.’ most accomplished pairing so far this week dusted Sungjae Im and Corey Conners 4 and 3 on Saturday morning to move to 3-0-0 on the week. They’ve played 49 total holes and led after 41 of them. Pretty incredible, and it moves the U.S. lead to 9-2 with the dream of finishing off the International team this afternoon still alive.

Double double
Cam Young and Collin Morikawa just made their second double bogey in their last five holes, and now they’re 3 down with five to go. Massive problem for them, although alternate shot can be incredibly volatile. They need a big swing late to have a chance to end the event in the four afternoon matches.

Momentum … finally
Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama are finally playing to their talent level. They’ve made three birdies in a row in alternate shot and all of a sudden have a 2-up lead on Collin Morikawa and Cam Young on the U.S. side. Really the only drama is whether the U.S. will have a chance to win the Cup this afternoon (they need at least 3.5 points in this session for that to be in play this afternoon), but at least this particular session is competitive. Currently tied 2-2.

Scottie Scheffler shank
The No. 1 player in the world has had a pretty strange week. He’s been unbelievable at time and also hit some bizarre non-Scheffler-like shots at others. We saw one of those on the 10th hole on Saturday morning when he hit a full shank on the par 3 and put partner Sam Burns in a bad spot to recover and try to win the hole against Tom Kim and K.H. Lee., who went on to make a birdie 2 on them and tie the match.

Matches heading to the homeward half
Corey Conners continues to leave Sungjae Im on an island as his struggles have spilled over into today. With the U.S. in trouble on No. 9, the internationals are still within reach in all four matches. A 3-1 session victory has to be on the mind of Captain Trevor Immelman despite not currently leading any of the matches.

International top players struggling
This week was always going to be difficult, but I find it interesting that it is some of the known quantities that are hindering the internationals. Corey Conners and Adam Scott have been dreadful in this competition while others such as K.H. Lee, Taylor Pendrith have showed some grit. I am sure if you told Immelman some of his lesser known players performed as they have, he would have been happy.

Since its announcement, the DJI Osmo Action 3 (opens in new tab) has been on the lips of every thrill seeker thanks to the action camera reverting back to DJI’s original design and offering world-beating specs to match, making it one of our best GoPro alternatives (opens in new tab).
At a glance the Osmo Action 3 shows DJI has reverted to a more traditional single-unit design of 70 x 44 x 32mm (2.76 x 1.73 x 1.25 inches). This may abandon some of the gadget cool factor from its modular predecessor, the DJI Action 2 (opens in new tab). But the design allows for a single replaceable battery that can offer up to 210 minutes of operation. It is also waterproof with no additional housing up to 16m (52ft) – beating the GoPro Hero10 (opens in new tab) by 6m (20ft).

The EIS remains excellent from the previous generation; RockSteady and HorizonBalancing both produce smooth video from aggressive action. For most 4K is the ideal resolution for action, especially with up to 120fps. While it is a little sad to see the modular design seemingly abandoned, the Action 3 is easier to manage and more capable. The only sacrifice is the larger size and weight, but even then it still has the GoPro beat.

Weight: 158g | Waterproof: 10m | 5K video: up to 30fps | 4K video: up to 60fps | 1080: up to 240fps | 720: up to 240fps | Stills resolution: 20MP | Battery life: 1-3hrs estimate
Dual touchscreen control
Good vlogging tool in vertical or horizontal
No module confusion (compared to Action 2)
Extreme batteries included as standard
Cheaper than GoPro
No subscription payments required
12-megapixel images and 4K maximum video resolution
No period of cloud backup included
We’d like to see a start and stop timer
Vertical format use requires frame
Voice control somewhat spotty
The 155˚ lens (12.7mm EFL) of the Osmo Action 3 is mounted in a screen which serves to protect the camera. The raised rim and supplied rubber rim should prevent damage affecting the view.
The Action 3 case tucks a color sensor in the ‘O’ of the Action 3 badge which can quickly shift white balance during a shot as, for example, you break the surface of the water. There are also three microphones – two at either end of the word ‘Action’ and another atop the case. These serve to provide active noise cancellation.
The unit weighs in at a not inconsiderable 145g; that’s normal for an action camera but will be noticeable on an ordinary commuting bike helmet (though still 5g lighter than the GoPro Hero 10)
Like the recent DJI Mini 3 Pro (opens in new tab) drone, DJI has given vertical-format creatives some thought too. The camera’s gyros detect which angle the camera is being used at and record automatically at the correct one (a lock is available), and the clip-in frame includes a vertical mount.

How Crypto Is Playing A Role In Increasing Healthy Human Lifespans – Cointelegraph https://collincountynewsonline.com/how-crypto-is-playing-a-role-in-increasing-healthy-human-lifespans-cointelegraph/
It’s a question that’s infatuated scientists for decades: how can we prolong life expectancy — giving humans everywhere more years of good health?
This field is known as longevity science, and within this industry, experts argue care which regards ageing as a normal but treatable ailment are rare — and of the approaches available, they can only be accessed by those who are highly educated and privileged.
Just some of the key tenets that govern this approach to medicine involve therapeutics, personalized medicine, predictive diagnostics and artificial intelligence. The goal is to eliminate a “one size fits all” attitude toward treatment, and ensure that therapies are customized to an individual’s unique medical profile. This can matter in many different ways — to the best method for tackling cancer, to the food we eat and our risk of heart disease.
And while predictive diagnostics offers an existing way of unlocking better patient outcomes, this often hinges upon using large amounts of anonymized data to determine what’s happened in the past, and how greater levels of success are achieved in the future.
Bizarrely, there are parallels between cryptocurrencies and longevity science. You could argue that this approach to medicine is currently where digital assets were back in 2013 — a time when crypto discussion was confined to online message boards, niche group chats and convoluted whitepapers. Longevity researchers are excitedly sharing their findings with one another — and collaboration is taking place across sectors. Experts are keen to ensure that anyone with an interest in this nascent field can get involved and contribute.
Educating the masses
As in the crypto industry, a big challenge that longevity science faces is education — and simply explaining this concept to the public. This is a journey that takes time, effort, money and patience.
Because of this, a dedicated event has been established so this cutting-edge concept can be discussed in an open forum. The Longevity Investors Conference is set to take place in Switzerland from Sept. 28-30. It’s being sponsored by Credit Suisse, and tickets can be paid for in cryptocurrency.
It’s being organized by Marc P. Bernegger. He’s a founding partner of Maximon — a Swiss company that invests and builds in longevity-focused companies. Bernegger explored Bitcoin in 2012 and told Cointelegraph: “There is room for everyone. We can all travel the same path but take different approaches. It’s still the same narrative.”
Just some of the items on the agenda include exploring the scientific meaning of longevity — and how this will affect individuals around the world in the long run. Discussions will also be held on how to cultivate investment in this fledgling space, and according to Bernegger, this is a field that’s of great interest to crypto enthusiasts.
The conference aims to build bridges, and highlight how scientists play a vital role in ensuring that we can all benefit from longer lifespans and a healthy retirement. While there are business opportunities to be found, investors face a challenge because they’re not from a scientific background. Likewise, bright minds often need an entrepreneurial perspective in order to bring their genius concepts to market.
Bernegger added: “There are a number of different perspectives — the entrepreneurs, the scientists, investors who bring money. They need a combination of everything. This sector appreciates new players. The more money there is, the more smart and serious people you have, the better. The industry is still finding itself. It is accessible now, and people are happy to help.”
Why crypto is a good match
It’s the science element that’s attracting early adopters of cryptocurrency to this space. The reason is simple: because many of these enthusiasts are forward looking, open minded and technology driven.
Describing the initial days of crypto, Bernegger explained: “They were all in for the technology. It was not just speculative. They saw the potential of a peer-to-peer solution, and now they see the potential with regard to ageing.”
Indeed, blockchain technology also has the potential to enhance the quest to achieve longevity. Decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) have already been established that are funding research to support and commercialize therapeutics. This approach also ensures that donors can vote on the future direction of research projects.
Even though the bear market has cast a long shadow over the crypto sector, many of those in this industry are firmly in the “BUIDL” phase. They’re using this opportunity to innovate, cultivate new products, and develop the trends that will drive the next bull run. Longevity science can be one of them — and according to Bernegger, pioneers know that paying close attention to health is far more important than the value of any token.
We already know that the rate of ageing can be controlled, to some extent, by genetic pathways and biochemical processes. But in the coming decades, there are still so many questions to be answered — and dots to be connected — in the quest to improve our quality of life, and ensure that anyone can access it.
The Longevity Investors Conference says attendance will be strictly limited to 100 hand-picked delegates, and they’ll be able to benefit from the insights of over 30 outstanding speakers. It’s a compelling opportunity to get to know the industry inside and out, all while establishing meaningful contacts with the best people in the field.
It’s going to take place in Gstaad, one of the most exclusive Swiss mountain resorts, in a “one-of-a-kind setting” within a plush, five-star hotel, and world-class speakers flying in to attend and present. This includes members of the Longevity Science Foundation Visonary Board.. This nonprofit recently entered into a partnership with The Giving Block — tapping into a vital stream of crypto philanthropy.
If you want to know how to add years to your life, and life to your years, this could be the most important conference you ever attend.

These 7 States Have The Least Air Pollution In The U.S. CNBC
These 7 States Have The Least Air Pollution In The U.S. – CNBC https://collincountynewsonline.com/these-7-states-have-the-least-air-pollution-in-the-u-s-cnbc/
Breathing cleaner air is vital to your long-term health: It’s essential for healthy lungs, improves cognitive function and can even make you happier.
The Natural Resources Defense Council also says cleaner air helps avoid an estimated 370,000 premature deaths in the U.S. each year and leads to 189,000 fewer hospital admissions for cardiac and respiratory illnesses, such as heart diseases, asthma or pneumonia.
In short, you can expect numerous benefits from living in an area with clean air. That’s good news for residents of several states, according to a new U.S. News and World Report analysis, which ranked all 50 states according to how polluted they are and the risk that pollution poses to their population’s health.
The ranking is based on 2019 data from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, which measured the total toxic chemical pollution generated in each state and the risks of long-term, chronic health effects — such as cancer and birth defects — posed to each state’s population per capita.
Those measurements accounted for air and water emissions from manufacturing, electric power generation, mining and hazardous waste treatment, according to the U.S. News and World Report. They didn’t account for pollution from transportation, agriculture or small facilities like dry cleaners and auto body shops.
Here are the seven least polluted states, according to the ranking:
Vermont
New Hampshire
South Dakota
New Mexico
Wyoming
California
Rhode Island
Vermont comes in first as the least polluted state in the nation, a fitting title for “The Green Mountain State” that is known for its pristine natural attractions. That ranking is consistent with other 2022 analyses: The American Lung Association (ALA) says Vermont’s cities are among the cleanest by air quality in the country, and have low levels of the most harmful and widespread types of air pollution.
The state’s Burlington-South metro area in particular is one of only two U.S. cities that rank as the cleanest for the worst types of air pollution, which include particle pollution and ozone air pollution.
New Hampshire’s status as the second-least polluted state may come as somewhat of a surprise. In 2022, the ALA said the state’s air quality got “mixed grades.” Overall, New Hampshire showed improvement in the ozone air pollution category, but three counties experienced higher long-term particle pollution — which is deadly — compared to the previous year, according to the ALA.
Another surprise is California’s high ranking, considering that many of its cities rank among the country’s most polluted, according to the ALA. California may have more stringent emission standards than most states, but factors like wildfires and drought have been found to worsen the state’s air quality.
What’s not surprising is the state ranked as the most polluted in the U.S.: Louisiana. Several pieces of research point to the state’s poor air quality. For instance, a 2020 analysis by the Environmental Integrity Project found that Louisiana is home to four of the top ten “super polluter” chemical plants in the U.S. A 2019 ProPublica investigation also found that the number of plants in Louisiana with high emissions has actually increased since the 1980s, despite the overall number decreasing nationally.

FRISCO — Frisco Wakeland defensive back Steel Littlejohn wanted respect for his team before Friday’s game against crosstown rival Frisco Lone Star. Wakeland, and especially Littlejohn, took that respect by force and for the first time the Wolverines can brag about a win over the Rangers.
Littlejohn helped Wakeland make three big plays on defense that directly led to touchdowns, and a sharp offense led by quarterback Brennan Myer took care of the rest in a surprisingly one-sided 38-10 upset of state-ranked Lone Star in a District 6-5A-I game at the Ford Center at The Star.
Littlejohn got the momentum going Wakeland’s way in the second quarter to start a 31-0 run. He recovered a fumble forced by Donovan Woolen at the Lone Star 22-yard line with 3:50 left in the frame and Wakeland running back Cooper Snyder ran it in on the next play. On Lone Star’s next drive, Littlejohn got an interception at the Wakeland 11-yard line and returned it 49 yards, setting up a 36-yard touchdown pass from Brennan Myer to a diving Hayden O’Neal with 19 seconds remaining.
Littlejohn even iced the win by forcing and recovering a fumble at the Lone Star 9-yard line with 4:01 left, setting up a 1-yard touchdown run by Colby Perkes.
“They pick on us ever year. It’s time they put some respect on our name,” Littlejohn said. “I played with a chip on my shoulder this game. This is one of the wins I wanted more than anything, and I owe this to my team.
“This is a different feeling. This is a whole different experience and it’s special to me.”
Wakeland (2-3, 1-2 in 6-5A-I) knocked off Lone Star after losing eight previous meetings going back to 2014, and avoided an 0-3 hole in district play. Lone Star (2-2, 0-2) ranked No. 9 in The Associated Press’ Class 5A Division I state poll and The Dallas Morning News’ Class 5A area poll, falls to 0-2 in district play for the first time since 2013.
After passing for 411 yards and four touchdowns in a 41-37 loss to Frisco Reedy last week, Myer remained on a roll, going 21 for 28 on pass attempts for 277 yards and three touchdowns. The pass that put victory in sight was a 39-yard toss that O’Neal leaped and grabbed on Wakeland’s first drive in the second half, extending a drive capped by a 6-yard scoring lob to Snyder to extend Wakeland’s lead to 28-10. Wakeland tight end and SMU commit Tripp Riordan had eight receptions for 101 yards and a touchdown while Snyder contributed 110 yards rushing on 31 carries with one touchdown.
Myer said his offensive line, led by tackle and University of Texas commit Connor Stroh and center Andrew Kirkland played its best game of the season.
“Last week started to catch fire. All practice this week was perfect and making sure we executed,” Myer said.
“Our line had a lot of fuel in them and they came out with something different tonight.”
Injuries, which were a factor in Lone Star’s 13-7 loss to Frisco Reedy on Sept. 9, hit the Rangers again. Lone Star coach Jeff Rayburn said he had four starters out with injuries.
Starting quarterback Gabriel Barrientes, playing in his first game since suffering a torn ACL against Texarkana Texas High on Aug. 25, appeared to aggravate the injury with 2:36 left in the first quarter and had to be helped off the field. Third-stringer Bennett Fryman took over as second-teamer Collin Blackstock was out because of an injury suffered against Burleson on Sept. 2.
“I’ll never played say would have, could have, should have, but Wakeland was awful sharp and Brennan Myer made a lot of big plays,” Rayburn said. “My hat’s off to them.”’
Campbell Martin also had an interception for Wakeland while Thomas Jelinek had two tackles for loss. University of Arkansas commit Jaylen Braxton took a short Fryman pass 62 yards for a touchdown with 2:18 left in the first quarter and finished with 95 yards receiving for Lone Star. Alexander Adigun had a blocked punt for Lone Star to set up a 38-yard field goal by Chase Lanham that gave the Rangers a 10-7 lead with 8:43 left in the first half.
Robert Sippio had two sacks for Lone Star, which plays Frisco Liberty on Thursday. Wakeland has a bye next week before playing Liberty on Oct. 6.

Discover Oklahoma: What’s New For The Fall At Robbers Cave State Park? – Oklahoman.com https://collincountynewsonline.com/discover-oklahoma-whats-new-for-the-fall-at-robbers-cave-state-park-oklahoman-com/
Dino Lalli | Guest columnist
Having been born and raised in McAlester, our family would sometimes take trips to Robbers Cave State Park in Wilburton. I have vivid memories as a child of seeing the hilly woodlands of the San Bois Mountains of southeast Oklahoma. I remember seeing the lake for the first time and hearing the splash of the water and families having fun on a weekend. The area is full of pine trees and monolithic rocks.
I remember being told the stories of why Robbers Cave was famous. Since my dad and I loved watching Westerns on television, you can imagine the eyes of a little boy hearing Robbers Cave was famous for being a former hideout for outlaws such as the Daltons, Jesse James and Belle Starr!
While the massive rocks of Robbers Cave truly stand as a testament to time and never change, through the years like so many elements of life, change does occur. Renovations can bring about those changes, and here are a few of those important changes at Robbers Cave State Park.
The park office has moved and will be located in the lodge for the foreseeable future. The lodge has been undergoing substantial renovations and will be opening in the very near future. Once open, lodge and cabin guests will be able to check in at the new park office, which will be at 2084 NW 146th Road. But because of limited access from the entrance gateway and parking lot size, the park has requested RV guests now proceed directly to their site rather than risk damage to their camping rig by driving through the lodge parking lot for check-in.
“Having the park office in the lodge allows us to more centrally serve all our guests, whether they are camping, in an RV, cabin or tent,” says park manager Bobby Braly. “We’re very excited to have everyone out to see the new lodge after it opens this fall and enjoy this magical season in the park.”
By the way, firewood will be available at the park office and at the camp store down by Lake Carlton, where guests can also pick up basic groceries, camping essentials and souvenirs. Robbers Cave also offers a few other unique stays such as a covered wagon and yurts.
And remember, fishing in general is offered year-round at Robbers Cave, but during the winter months through mid-March, there is trout fishing on the lower stream. Want to see this countryside the way the outlaws did? Then take a trail ride.
It is one thing to enjoy Robbers Cave or any state park in the summer. But if you have never taken the time to visit as temperatures cool, leaves change and fall gently takes hold, you are really missing out on what can be an incredibly relaxing getaway or vacation.

Concerns about whether the project could jeopardize Bethlehem’s earnings a spot as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognizing the Moravian site, have been raised. Earlier, the city planning commission said its responsibility to review Skyline West did not include consideration of World Heritage status.
World Heritage status would draw attention and tourists to historic Bethlehem, advocates have said.

Florence has a pretty in-depth method for keeping her skin glowing, but she isn’t afraid to keep it real, either. She’s frequently shared photos on social media where her real skin texture is showing. Because pores: Completely normal.

She prioritizes making sure her acne is under control.
Florence isn’t afraid to let the world know that even she gets a pesky pimple every once in a while. Back in April, the 26-year-old posted an Instagram story of her makeup-free face with three pimple patches on it, joking that she uses them to cover up blemishes almost daily.
“I should thank spot stickers in my credits because I truly thank them daily,” she captioned the selfie. These stickers are a super easy way to clear up acne in a pinch, as they often cover pimples with a hydrocolloid and/or salicylic acid shield to draw out impurities like oil and pus.

She prefers more lightweight complexion products.
Florence’s red carpet looks typically focus on “enhancing her natural beauty, and that starts with a fresh skin base,” her makeup artist, Naoko Scintu, told Refinery29. For her skin, she uses the Omorovicza Oxygen Booster, which is “like a lightweight plumping serum made from natural minerals sourced in Budapest,” according to Scintu. The serum rejuvenates and hydrates the skin before other products are applied on top.

Following the serum, Scintu will use the Omorovicza Balancing Moisturiser, which moisturizes the skin while also controlling shine.

She never forgets to wear sunscreen.
Many of the complexion products she wears typically contain SPF to keep her skin safe from sun damage. Scintu finds that Suqqu’s Nude Wear Liquid SPF gives Florence’s skin the perfect dewy look. “The finish is beautiful—so lightweight and fresh,” she told Refinery29. Plus, it’s light enough that it doesn’t cause her any breakouts, so it’s a win-win.

There’s a reason her skin never looks oily.
Like a lot of us, the actor’s T-zone tends to become especially oily over time, so Scintu uses Jurlique Rose Silk Finishing Powder on her whenever she does her glam. “It’s clean and natural, made with only Australian botanical ingredients, so it mattifies excess oil without clogging pores,” she told Refinery29.

It also helps that Scintu chooses cream-based formulas for cheek color and blush because they highlight her skin’s real texture but add a little pop.
She’ll choose lip balm over lip gloss almost every time.
Florence also prefers more neutral tones than bright pigments, per Refinery29. That’s why Scintu frequently turns to the Suqqu Moisture Rich Lipstick. “It’s a peachy tone that’s sheer but moisturizing, and gives a healthy shine,” she said.
Even for the Venice Film Festival, Florence and Babsky opted for the Rosso Valentino Refillable Lipstick in 108A “Living Nude” which complemented her look without taking away from her other striking features.
