Nivolumab dose escalation triggered immune checkpoint inhibitor-induced colitis after 147 weeks of prolonged stable use in a patient with lung cancer: a case report
Nivolumab dose escalation triggered immune checkpoint inhibitor-induced colitis after 147 weeks of prolonged stable use in a patient with lung cancer: a case report
A 56-year-old man with advanced lung adenocarcinoma presented to the emergency department with a 6-day history of diarrhea. He was treated for lung cancer with nivolumab 3 mg/kg (144 mg/body) every 2 weeks (Q2W), followed by an increase to 240 mg Q2W for 147 weeks, for a total of 69 administrations. …

The clinical and microbiological efficacy of temocillin versus cefotaxime in adults with febrile urinary tract infection, and its effects on the intestinal microbiota: a randomised multicentre clinical trial in Sweden - The Lancet
The clinical and microbiological efficacy of temocillin versus cefotaxime in adults with febrile urinary tract infection, and its effects on the intestinal microbiota: a randomised multicentre clinical trial in Sweden - The Lancet
Temocillin was found to be less selective than cefotaxime of Enterobacterales with reduced susceptibility to third-generation cephalosporins, and it could therefore be a favourable alternative in the empirical treatment of febrile UTI. Use of this antibiotic could reduce hospital transmission and health-care-associated infections by these pathogens.

An evaluation of toxigenic Clostridioides difficile positivity as a patient outcome metric of antimicrobial stewardship in Saudi Arabia
An evaluation of toxigenic Clostridioides difficile positivity as a patient outcome metric of antimicrobial stewardship in Saudi Arabia
The rate of toxigenic C. difficile positivity may be a useful patient outcome metric for evaluating the long-term impact of antimicrobial stewardship on CDI, especially in settings with limited surveillance resources. The accuracy of this metric is, however, dependent on the avoidance of arbi …

Change in Antimicrobial Use during COVID-19 Pandemic in South Carolina Hospitals: A Multicenter Observational Cohort Study
This retrospective cohort study examined the impact of the pandemic on antimicrobial use (AU) in South Carolina hospitals. AU in days of therapy (DOT) per 1000 days-present was evaluated in 17 hospitals in South Carolina. Matched-pairs mean difference was used to compare AU during the pandemic (Marc …

Corticosteroids Do Not Increase the Likelihood of Primary Clostridioides difficile Infection in the Setting of Broad-Spectrum Antibiotic Use
We demonstrated a 46% relative reduction in the odds of developing CDI in patients who received corticosteroids in the past 90 days. We believe that our results provide the best clinical evidence to further support mechanistic studies underlying this phenomenon.

Evaluation of Piperacillin-Tazobactam for Antibiotic Prophylaxis in Traumatic Grade III Open Fractures
Background: Broad-spectrum antibiotic agents are sometimes utilized for prophylaxis of Gustilo grade III open fractures. However, this practice is not recommended by current guidelines, and it is unknown how patient outcomes are impacted. This study aimed to determine if prophylaxis wi …

Antimicrobial stewardship programs in emergency departments: how do we measure antimicrobial use? A systematic review
The reports of experiences in implementing ASPs in ED show heterogeneous antimicrobial use indicators, which makes it difficult to compare results. Therefore, antimicrobial use indicators for ASPs must be standardised between hospital units.
