Eris Drew - Quivering In Time by T4T LUV NRG
Eris Drew - Quivering In Time by T4T LUV NRG
T4T LUV NRG presents the title track from Eris Drew's forthcoming debut album "Quivering In Time", weeks ahead of the full album's release on October 29, 2021. Mid-tempo breaks, throbbing bass and applied tremolos are the foundation for Eris's song about finding hope amidst chaos. Available for pre-order!!! https://erisdrew.bandcamp.com/album/quivering-in-time About the album... In 2020, after the release of Trans Love Vibration (NAIVE, 2018) and Transcendental Access Point (Interdimensional Transmissions, 2020), Eris moved from her hometown of Chicago to rural New Hampshire and recorded the nine beautiful songs featured here. Her first album feels something like her DJ sets, with stacked layers of vinyl samples and turntable manipulations serving as a fast-moving foundation for hand-played keyboard riffs, walls of percussion and sampled, scratched and strummed guitar tones. On each song for the album Eris expresses the anxiety and hope of her present. She wrote, recorded, and mixed the album as she stared into the forest through her studio window, collapsing present and past into future, her memories and body literally quivering in time. The songs are cast with Eris鈥檚 experiences and intentions. The plucky progressive Loving Clav is in the form of an evocation (鈥済ood times come to me now....鈥), while the tracks Time to Move Close and Show U LUV express Eris鈥檚 longing for togetherness. The hardcore Pick 鈥楨m Up (鈥...and it might be a different story鈥) and organ-heavy Ride Free are funky odes to psychedelics, hard dancing and the subjectivity of real lived experience. The twinkling house of Howling Wind and the tempo-shifting bop of Sensation capture the mystery of the forest cabin where Eris spent most of the last 15 months. Two booming hip house dubs round out the album, Baby and Quivering in Time, each an itchy track about hope and personal resilience. As with her prior work, Eris鈥檚 approach to music making is unique and genre-dissolving. Ultimately, her special sound is a metaphor for her main message, which is that every person deserves to be themself.

Wanton Witch - "Wanton Witch" [SALP009] by Stroboscopic Artefacts
Wanton Witch - "Wanton Witch" [SALP009] by Stroboscopic Artefacts
Stroboscopic Artefacts is proud to present the debut album of Malaysian born Bangkok based artist Wanton Witch. Born in an isolated community of Borneo Island in 1993 Wanton Witch is a DJ and producer with a hyper-sensitive connection and approach to sound through performance. Coming of age in the relative isolation of island life, it wasn鈥檛 until relocating to Bangkok that she was able to access the different communities of musical genres that she would later travel between. With an early taste for trap and hip hop, she began working in the deconstructed club and techno scene where she found her musical voice, beginning her DJ career in 2018. Wanton is also a cofounder and original member of Queer underground creative collective 鈥楴on Non Non鈥 that has become a Bangkok nightlife staple. Being an 鈥渙utsider鈥 musician and producer with no formal training, it was the fortuitous crossing of paths online that has sparked the creative collaboration between Wanton and label owner and creative director Lucy. Last year Stroboscopic Artefacts celebrated ten years established between experimental and dance floor spectres and this is the first record the label is releasing after one year break, marking the launch of a new chapter for the imprint. It is with releases like the eponymous debut album from Wanton Witch and the support given to emerging artists like her that the imprint continues to forge pathways within the industry. Featuring 11 tracks, these recordings are the first body of work from the Bangkok producer, and include many different snapshots of electronic music genres from IDM and experimental to hardcore and rave, using caustic electronics to deconstruct traditional track conventions. This collection of cuts read more as a complete soundscape, like listening to a live set. The phrenetic jump from genre to genre, the mixing of diverse sound textures and landscapes reflect Wanton Witch鈥檚 own experience navigating a hostile world as a Queer trans woman in Malaysia. The intense energy with which each track is cut together reminds the listener of the nostalgia of mixtapes and a time in life when identity is being constructed. Wanton Witch has created an album which feels like a reflection of the aggregation that already exists within musical internet sub-cultures and communities. A place where many diverse and contrasting sound palettes, textures, and structures can fit together to create a new different, Queer way of seeing the world. Following up on Wanton鈥檚 LP, label head Lucy will also present an actual full length album named 鈥楲ucy Plays Wanton Witch鈥 featuring re-interpretations of the original material in a whole new body of work. This upcoming follow up release will not represent a mere remix edition, but a recreation from scratch and the rebirth of 鈥渙ne into another鈥 so to say. Expect the quintessential Lucy treatment. DJ Manny - Signals In My Head by Planet Mu Records
DJ Manny - Signals In My Head by Planet Mu Records
DJ Manny - Signals In My Head (LP out 23rd July) https://planetmu.bleepstores.com/release/223122-dj-manny-signals-in-my-head https://djmanny1.bandcamp.com/album/signals-in-my-head DJ Manny is both known and unknown. Despite being firmly embedded within the Footwork elite and being regarded by many as a DJ's DJ, Manny has yet to receive the kind of attention his peers have. His joyous new album for Planet Mu "Signals In My Head" is set to alter that for good. Born in March 1990 in Chicago but raised in Robbins/Harvey, IL, Manuel Gaines first encountered Juke/Footwork before he was 10 years old while out with his brother at a party he was too young to be at. Dancing became a big thing for him, then throwing parties, then meeting Rashad and DJ Spinn when he was in middle school, then making his first recordings at his cousin Jonathan's house (R.I.P.) using FL Studios. His first release "Kush On Deck" came about in 2010 with DJ Rashad's help, when he was already a ten year veteran of the scene. Here we are eleven years later and "Signals In My Head" marks a long worked for new chapter in DJ Manny's career. Now based in Brooklyn, New York, where he lives with partner SUCIA! Manny's sound has widened out and taken on a more romantic edge. He openly admits that his goal for the new album was "to do something that nobody (in Footwork) had ever done before which is an R&B love type of album but still keeping it footwork, juke, house, techno, with a few breaks. I just want people to know it's love out there." Tracks like "U Want It", "Never Was Ah Hoe" and the title cut "Signals In My Head" are strong standouts that show what DJ Manny means when he says 'R&B love.' "Signals..." also brings in a drum & bass flavour, something you'll find on cuts like "Good Love" and on "Havin' Fun" made with DJ Phil. When asked about D&B Manny shouts out LTJ Bukem as a inspiration. Tracks like "Club GTA" and "That Thang" also call back to the classic Chicago house of the nineties while "Smoke 'n' Fade Away" and album closer "At First Site" both recall the golden era of Detroit techno. Meanwhile "Wants My Body", created with DJ Chap, and "All I Need" are classic Footwork workouts sure to ignite dancefloors. Looking back at the selection, DJ Manny says he was "actually able to get the sound I wanted." His set up, a mixture of MPC, Abelton, Boss drum machine and synths like the Triton and Omni has served him well. Well aware that some in the past have thought of him as a sleeper - he notes "It's not a problem to be low key at all with your music, when you trying to better yourself and your sound." DJ Manny has succeeded in moving himself forward. "Signals In My Head" brings us back to the joy of Footwork as a dance, as a mid-west American movement and most importantly as a mental and spiritual boost.

Emeka Ogboh | Beyond The Yellow Haze | A-TON LP11 by Ostgut Ton | A-TON | unterton
'Beyond The Yellow Haze' is the debut release by Nigerian sound and installation artist Emeka Ogboh on Ostgut Ton sublabel A-TON. Combining subtle layers of ambient electronics, dance music and field recordings from the city of Lagos, Ogboh鈥檚 compositions reflect both the Nigerian city鈥檚 soundscapes as well as the artist鈥檚 increasing immersion in electronic music since moving to Berlin six years ago. Like his sound installation 'Ayilara' for Berghain鈥檚 main floor in the current 'STUDIO BERLIN' exhibition, 'Beyond The Yellow Haze' contains a veritable atonal orchestra of honking, motors, sound systems, sidewalk sales pitches and various sonic artifacts of Lagos鈥檚 Danfo bus stations and beyond. These serve as both punctuation and swirling atmosphere within a kaleidoscope of bass and polyrhythms. The unpredictable result is at once place-specific and geographically indefinable. A city in situ 鈥 and processed in memory and rhythm very far away. The recordings were originally included as part of Ogboh鈥檚 2018 exhibition 'No Condition Is Permanent' at Galerie Imane Far猫s and self-released as a stamped and signed artist edition. 'Beyond The Yellow Haze' will be released on A-TON as a 2x12'' LP on black vinyl and in digital formats. Born in 1977, Emeka Ogboh鈥檚 artistic practice focuses on ethico-poltical questions through sound, food and scent. His diverse body of work includes installation, video, photography and beer and has been featured in dokumenta14, the Venice Biennale, the Brooklyn Museum and the American National Museum of African Art, amongst others. He lives and works in Lagos and Berlin. https://www.berghain.berlin/beyondtheyellowhaze/

Loraine James, Simple Stuff by Hyperdub Records
The first single from Loraine James' new album 'Reflection' is a solo introduction and a reset. It's a direct song called Simple Stuff vocalled directly and diaristically by Loraine, a minimal, gentle plea to be treated equally (as a black, queer woman) over criss-crossing drums. Loraine's vocals dissolve into distortion and fx's as if they are getting lost and then heard again. Reflection is Released on 4th June 2021 on Hyperdub Vinyl / CD / Digital - Purple Vinyl and A Limited T-Shirt available direct from our bandcamp - preorder here and get this track upfront: https://smarturl.it/reflection.album
