With a 4-speed synchromesh gearbox and large Alfin drum brakes to help manage the car’s hp, the BMW 507 offered brisk hp and performance. It was capable of reaching top speeds of 123–135 mph and could accelerate from 0–60 mph in less than 10 s. Although BMW did not build the 507 with motorsport in mind, several examples found themselves driven in competition as some of the world’s most arduous racing events. Design was left to Count Albrecht von Goertz, a protégé of designer Raymond Loewy. He crafted truly exceptional bodywork for the car, a design which is considered to this day to be one of BMWs finest. While it was intended to be more attainable, the BMW 507 boasted a retail price of over $11,000, nearly double its target price. As such, the 507 attracted many well-to-do and famous owners, including motorsports icon John Surtees and even Elvis Presley. Only 252 examples, including both series, were made before production ceased in 1959. Delivered new to Automag Buchner & Linse of Munich, Germany, chassis number 70044 is a rare first-series example, and this BMW 507 was produced in July of 1957. Today, the 507 presents as an exceptionally original example. Having experimented with a system combining both a conventional supercharger and a turbo on their Delta S4 Group B rally car, Lancia eventually opted for turbo-charging alone for the less exotic Group A Delta HF. Already a fine handling car courtesy of its tuned suspension, the Delta HF moved up a class with the introduction of a state-of-the-art four-wheel-drive transmission incorporating Ferguson viscous couplings and a Torsen differential. Badged as the 'Delta HF 4WD' on its introduction in 1986, the model retained the Volumex blower initially before switching to a straightforward turbo when transformed into the legendary Integrale in 1987. The latter would prove a supremely capable rally car yet in road trim remained a thoroughly practical family hatchback. Integrale performance was boosted further by the introduction of a 16-valve cylinder head for the 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine in 1989, maximum power increasing to 200bhp and top speed to 137mph. This 16-valve example of one of the most iconic and sought after cars of its era comes with less than 50,000 miles and a history of being well-maintained.
