So what tools can we provide that will help researchers explore the #DigitalExtendedSpecimen concept, participate in the discussions and to contribute with expert-generated links, made in context, as they conduct their research?— Nicky Nicolson (@nickynicolson) August 16, 2022
I have managed to configure @obsdmd so it can be used alongside @dendronhq. Using Templater plugin, we can create a note following the Dendron format (as shown below)To get the nice hierarchies automatically, we can use the Breadcrumbs plugin and enable Dendron option. pic.twitter.com/lCJCeHgCb6— Aadam (@aadimator) August 13, 2022
Obsidian is a powerful note-taking application, but with a bit of a learning curve. This post provides a brief overview and detailed setup instructions.
Using the Zettelkasten (and Obsidian) to Write an Essay
Felt like experimenting with building the scaffolding for an essay in real time. The only preparation I did for this was a quick tech check to make sure all was working. Otherwise, this was impromptu and off the cuff. Couple things to note:
- I wanted to show how I leverage Obsidian's graph view to get creative with ideas
- I don't always use the graph view. Sometimes I just write.
- Sometimes I write first and find zettels to support my writing.
- Sometimes I start just as I did here: one note leads to other, leads an essay.

Option to sync settings, themes, and plugins across multiple vaults
Current problem Most users have spent hours highly customizing Obsidian to meet our needs and preferences via settings, themes, CSS snippets, plugins, etc. But whenever we add a new vault—or want to temporarily designate a folder as a vault to use Obsidian on the files inside it—that’s all left behind, as if we’re opening Obsidian for the very first time. The only workaround (see below) is cumbersome. Proposed solution Option 1: Add the option to store the .obsidian configuration folder as ...
Current behavior: Document with single line of [[test link|test]] gives a word count of 3. Desired behavior: Word count should be 1, using only the link text, not the hidden info for the link.
