Threader, a Shortcut to Open Threads Profiles from Mastodon and Twitter Directly in the Threads App
Instagram just rolled out Threads, the company’s new text-based social network that’s been advertised over the past few weeks as an alternative to Twitter. I’m trying out Threads (you can find my account at threads.net/@viticci) and in the process of setting up the list of people I want to follow, I immediately run into an

Introducing S-GPT, A Shortcut to Connect OpenAI’s ChatGPT with Native Features of Apple’s Operating Systems
It’s the inaugural week of the second annual edition of Automation April, and to celebrate the occasion, I’ve been working on something special: today, I’m introducing S-GPT, an advanced conversational shortcut for ChatGPT that bridges OpenAI’s assistant to native system features of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and watchOS. S-GPT (which stands for Shortcuts-GPT) is free to

Apple Frames 3.1: Extending Screenshot Automation with the New Apple Frames API
Today, I’m happy to introduce something I’ve been working on for the past couple of months: Apple Frames – my shortcut to put screenshots captured on Apple devices inside physical device frames – is getting a major upgrade to version 3.1 today. In addition to offering support for more devices that I missed in version

Things 3.17 Overhauls the App’s Shortcuts Actions
Things 3.17 is out for iPhone, iPad, and Mac with greatly expanded support for Shortcuts. That opens up a much wider variety of possible automations than ever before. It’s a lot to take in at once, but I’ve been playing with these actions since the end of last year, so I thought I’d highlight what

What's New in Shortcuts - Issue #54
To kick things off, I wanted to start with today's release of my new Mastodon shortcuts — I made deep links out of every section, a handle converter, and a quick way to use Movetodon.org repeatedly.I'm on the platform as @matthewcassinelli@mastodon.social, so you should definitely follow me there — for now, I'm still on Twitter trying to help people move off the platform:

Over on YouTube, I streamed for 6 hours on Monday continuing my work on the Shortcuts Library logging process and sharing the shortcuts I'd built on-stream a few weeks prior. I did some experiments on the stream too, including watching Chris Lawley's videos (who appeared in the chat), testing music, and taking longer breaks.

Masto-Redirect, a Mastodon Shortcut to Redirect Profiles and Posts to Your Own Instance
Like many others over the past month, I’ve been thinking deeply about my experience with Twitter and whether I want to align my social media usage with the kind of platform Twitter is rapidly becoming. It’s a complex discussion (if my readers are still on Twitter, am I doing them a disservice by not using

Apple Finally Gave Us More Shortcut Actions for Books
Apple Finally Gave Us More Shortcut Actions for Books
When iOS 16.0 was still in early beta testing, Apple teased us with a slew of new Books actions in the Shortcuts app, but none of them materialized in iOS 16.0 or 16.1. That changes with Apple's latest software update for iPhone. The only Apple Books action in Shortcuts you'll see on iOS 16.1 and earlier, except for any personal Siri Suggestions that are based on how you use your device, is:

What's New in Shortcuts - Issue #44
On Wednesday, after the Apple Watch Ultra reviews dropped, I wrote up a quick story about the total apps that support Shortcuts now (as announced at WWDC) and how many of those can run from the new Action button on the watch.I'm hoping to get my hands on one soon and try it out, plus I'll be sharing my technique for turning the one dedicated shortcut into a multitool (as I mentioned in the post):
