I took a couple on-ramps at max-lat and was genuinely concerned I was going to shear a wheel hub off. ⁣ ⁣ The stock e-Golf, on 16" Bridgestone Ecopia EP422 eco tires, pulls 0.86 g in @CarAndDriver testing. Which ain't bad.⁣ ⁣ A GTI on its standard all-season 18” Hankook tires pulls a little more: 0.89 g. On the optional Bridgestone Potenza S001 summers, the GTI circles the skidpad at 0.95 g. ⁣ ⁣ I haven't put a VBox in it yet, but I'm calling this e-Golf 1.01 g. Maybe more.⁣ ⁣ It's f*cking ludicrous. It's awesome. It's downright absurd. I can't stop taking on-ramps!⁣ ⁣ Additional good news: going from 205/55-16 to 225/40-18, you'd think the ride would have gone to hell. It didn't. Some impacts are slightly sharper; typically though I notice no difference. And the big Michelins are actually quieter than the Bridgestones were.⁣ ⁣ The steering precision went from meh to "wow." The sidewall- and tread-squish is just gone. ⁣ ⁣ And now 2 pieces of bad news: ⁣ ⁣ 1. There's so much grip I can no longer spin tire in the dry. This is annoying when I'd like to acoustically thank a Prius who's 10 mph below the speed limit by laying tire as I pass. Oh well.⁣ ⁣ 2. The range hit. I haven't done any scientific testing (yet) but the e-Golf is rated at 125 mi / charge, and I was averaging 123 so far this winter. ⁣ ⁣ That dropped to 100 even once I put the big wheels and tires on. Ouch.⁣ ⁣ A 20% range hit is tough to swallow, but it's been unusually cold and temperature has a huge effect on range. ⁣ ⁣ I'll do some actual testing when I can. In the meantime, I'll just stay on the curvy roads and laugh myself silly. ⁣ ⁣ I'm not kidding. The grip is ridiculous. And best part: the suspension has no issue coping with it. ⁣ ⁣ More to come.
