Brian Lohnes on Instagram: "Even the name was cool, Militor. This is the 1919 Militor 5-ton ordinance tractor. It was the first hardcore four wheel drive that the US military developed because of what they dealt with during World War One. 75 were built and none exist today. Powered by a near 400ci Wisconsin four cylinder engine the “tractor” was capable of 15mph flat out. They were mighty giants of their day and quaint to look at now. A Militor was part of the 1919 cross country trip that Dwight Eisenhower was on to test a multitude of vehicles for military use and to scout the roads of America. The trip was brutal. They averaged 6mph from Washington D.C. to San Fransisco. This big guy didn’t miss a beat, though and it’s big winch saves many smaller rigs from the ditch, sand, and muck. The articulation here is awesome as is the “Ordinance Dept USA” plate on the front. Failure to widely adopt this truck was a big mistake for the Army at the time. The articulation here is awesome as is the “Ordinance Dept USA” plate on the front. Failure to widely adopt this truck was a big mistake for the Army at the time. Hauling artillery around with 2-wheel drive “Liberty Trucks” was a nightmare in Europe during the war and this rig was a big leap forward. Funding for the truck was seen as wasteful by the government because of the other trucks available so after the 75 were built that was it. The axles were awesome. This truck looks 2WD right? You can see the beam axle but you cannot see where the ring and pinion lived because it is on top of that beam axle. Shafts ran into big hubs where the wheels were driven. Basically ancient portal axles. These trucks were and are neat and the name itself is just too cool. Militor...say it with pride! #history #trucks #tough #1919 #101years #eisenhower #torque #horsepower #militor #limited #blackandwhite #gnarly #offroad #fourwheeldrive #4wd #neat #america #americana".

You get waves, stares, shouts of encouragement from mailmen and skinny dudes on expensive bicycles, baffled looks from Hasidic Jews and well-dressed girls walking cute dogs alike. At the corner of Jefferson and Tompkins in Bed-Sty a 7-year old kid flagged us down, hand extended, and I thought he wanted to give us high-fives. “Lemme get in,” he said, and then jumped in the back. A bunch of his neighbors yelled at him to get off, c’mon kid, don’t bother these weirdos. I told @dmarshmallow: you’re gonna get some hop-ones. #landrover"

The #mehari was also proposed by #citroen as a military vehicle. It wouldn't be very successful in either of those roles! The #mehari made out of ABS plastic would become very popular as a car for sunny areas like St.Tropez. There you could, if you were lucky, spot #louisdefunes driving around in a green one that was apparently not fitted with a #602cc air-cooled #flattwin, but with some kind of 4-cylinder (Pics 2 & 3)! 🤣"

It was to receive a grill similar to that of the booted booted #rileyelf and #wolseleyhornet. It would however retain the rear-end of the #classicmini (photo 2). If you look closely you will also notice the different dashboard in the #mgmini. At least one of these #mini was built and survives to this day. I would love to know why #they abandoned this idea of a luxury sporty #blmini. Kʟᴀᴜs Bᴜssᴇ on Instagram: "50 years Alfa Romeo Montreal. One of most iconic designs of the brand. It’s designer, the great Marcello Gandini, was facing two main challenges in the front of the car that defined its look. To get a slim, supercar worthy look of the headlights, he designed them partially covered with eyebrows that would fold underneath the lights when switched on. Probably the single coolest design feature of the car. The second main feature of the front is more debatable: the air intake on the hood. Debatable because its actually not functioning, but placed there to break up the volume of the power bulge that covers the 2.6l V8... Its also great to see the love for this car in the design community with so many proposals that keep appearing on Instagram with modern interpretations 🧡🧡🧡 Head over to @alfaromeoofficial for more on the Montreal."
