This is quite a statement in regards to the influence which Duntov wielded; even in the 1960s, big car companies bowed to the demands of a few very rare and gifted individuals. New Yorker Photo on Instagram: "Over the past days I’ve looked at hundreds of archival photos of the Cherokee Fall Fair, held annually since 1912. After much debate, I settled on sharing this one, circa 1949. It stands out in its attention to shapes and the ferris wheel lights, captured with a long exposure. If you look closely, you can see the stars. If you know the area, you can see the forested mountains through the black night. In the muted foreground, a couple holds each other’s hands. They look especially motionless against the lights of the spinning rides, lending intimacy to the image and a sense that time stands still as often as it passes. This is @sarah_stacke sharing images from a documentary project in Cherokee, N.C., that looks at the interplay between past and present, the Cherokees’ deep connection to the land, and the everyday life that sustains twenty-first century Cherokee people...
