Cisco Event Response: Reports of Security Incident
Cisco Event Response: Reports of Security Incident
Version 1.1: October 18, 2024 Based on our investigations, we are confident that there has been no breach of our systems. We have determined that the data in question is on a public-facing DevHub environment—a Cisco resource center that enables us to support our community by making available software code, scripts, etc. for customers to use as needed. At this stage in our investigation, we have determined that a small number of files that were not authorized for public download may have been published. As of now, we have not observed any confidential information such as sensitive PII or financial data to be included but continue to investigate to confirm. Out of an abundance of caution, we have disabled public access to the site while we continue the investigation. * Meanwhile, Cisco will engage directly with customers if we determine they have been impacted by this event.

Cybercriminals operating ransomware as a service from overseas continue to be responsible for most high-profile cybercrime attacks against the UK
The deployment of ransomware remains the greatest serious and organised cybercrime threat, the largest cybersecurity threat, and also poses a risk to the UK’s national security. Ransomware attacks can have a significant impact on victims due to financial, data, and service losses, which can lead to business closure, inaccessible public services, and compromised customer data. Threat actors are typically based in overseas jurisdictions where limited cooperation makes it challenging for UK law enforcement to disrupt their activities.

NVD Analysis Report
NVD Analysis Report
The following estimates are calculated using data from the NVD Dashboard. At the time of this reports generation, NVD's 2024 daily average for analyzing new CVEs is 30.27. There is a current backlog of 16777 CVEs awaiting analysis. With an average influx of 111.07 new CVEs per day, a daily average of 217.93 analyses is required to clear this backlog and process new CVEs. Currently, NVD is falling short of this goal by 187.66 CVEs a day. Given this data, if the current daily rate of CVE analysis persists, the projected number of CVEs awaiting analysis by the end of 2024 will be 29462.6.

From IcedID to Dagon Locker Ransomware in 29 Days
From IcedID to Dagon Locker Ransomware in 29 Days
  • In late August 2023, we observed an intrusion that started with a phishing campaign using PrometheusTDS to distribute IcedID. IcedID dropped and executed a Cobalt Strike beacon, which was then used through-out the intrusion. The threat actor leveraged a bespoke PowerShell tool known as AWScollector to facilitate a range of malicious activities including discovery, lateral movement, data exfiltration, and ransomware deployment. Group Policy was used to distribute Cobalt Strike beacons at login to a specific privileged user group. The threat actor utilized a suite of tools to support their activities, deploying Rclone, Netscan, Nbtscan, AnyDesk, Seatbelt, Sharefinder, and AdFind. * This case had a TTR (time to ransomware) of 29 days.
