Villas Of Distinction® Reveals Bucket List Vacation Experiences – PR Web https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/villas-of-distinction-reveals-bucket-list-vacation-experiences-pr-web/ Ocean Residence in the Maldives Based on our requests, we are finding that it is true — people who were unable to use their vacation funds during the pandemic are planning more extravagant trips, and some are even checking experiences off of their bucket list. WAKEFIELD, Mass. (PRWEB) September 22, 2022 Villas of Distinction®, the world’s premier luxury villa rental company, reveals some of its most magnificent dream villas that consumers may have on their vacation bucket list. Bucket list vacations have been a trend this year, and Villas of Distinction’s requests and numbers back this up with a nearly 32 percent increase in the average selling price compared to 2019 before travel shut down because of the pandemic. “Based on our requests, we are finding that it is true — people who were unable to use their vacation funds during the pandemic are planning more extravagant trips, and some are even checking experiences off of their bucket list,” said Steve Lassman, vice president of villa product and agency relations for Villas of Distinction. “From private islands and overwater bungalows to castles and treehouse accommodations, anyone is sure to find the most unique and high-end vacation experiences in our portfolio.” Private Island. For those looking for a celebrity status experience, vacationing on a private island is one way to make this dream vacation a reality. Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands is Sir Richard Branson’s private island paradise. With up to 20 bedrooms, large groups can enjoy the ultimate exclusive Caribbean getaway. Guests will find the Balinese-inspired compound situated alongside crystal-clear waters and soft sand beaches, with a team of experts anticipating their every need. From spa services to organizing water sports, there’s never a dull moment on this island retreat. The dining is also unforgettable — select chef-prepared sashimi from the floating sushi bar or sail around the island and end at Turtle Beach for drinks and lunch. The island can be rented exclusively (20 bedrooms / up to 40 guests) or individually during select Celebration Weeks throughout the year. Overwater Bungalow. This accommodation type lands on most people’s bucket lists, and Luxury Water Villas at JOALI in Raa Atoll, Maldives are what vacation dreams are made of. Perched over clear, turquoise waters, these villas offer breathtaking views in every direction – even below. Just a short walk to land, there are a variety of restaurants and bars, a kid’s club, fitness center, and more luxury resort amenities. Looking for privacy? Each guest has their own butler service, so there is no need to leave the villa. Beach villas are also available. Castle. Imagine stepping back into the 18th century and staying in a castle, yes, a castle – one with all the modern amenities. Chartreuse de St. Emilion in Bordeaux, France, is a four-bedroom chateau. The nearly 10,000-square-foot castle is surrounded by a beautiful park and is located within the world-famous St. Emilion area, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Picturesque wine towns, vineyards, and shopping are all nearby. With a chef, housekeeping, butler, historic wine cellar, and more, guests can vacation like French royalty at this elegant chateau. Treehouse. An even more unique bucket list experience is staying in a luxurious treehouse. Secret Bay in Dominica is nestled within a clifftop rainforest, and the luxury treehouses here are unlike any other properties. The treehouses are sustainably built, with top-of-the-line finishes and open-air living; completely private, surrounded by lush vegetation, and have five-star amenities and services. In addition, the accommodations offer a private pool, deck, and unique living spaces that provide the feeling of being suspended within the rainforest. Guests will wake to the sounds of tropical birds and soft, rolling waves on the “Nature Island” of the Caribbean. This isn’t your traditional cabin. Bison Lodge in Revelstoke, British Columbia, sets the highest standard for mountain luxury, balancing elegance with rustic elements like harvested timber and reclaimed railway. The ski-in/ski-out property is just steps above the base of Revelstoke Mountain Resort and offers endless outdoor adventure, from heliski to dogsledding and mountain biking to glacier treks. Emergency Assistance: Health Equity For Those Who Need It Most The Times Of Israel
Emergency Assistance: Health Equity For Those Who Need It Most – The Times Of Israel https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/emergency-assistance-health-equity-for-those-who-need-it-most-the-times-of-israel/ On Monday, at the Clinton Global Initiative meeting in New York, I joined Anil Soni, CEO of the WHO Foundation, to announce the creation of a Global Health Equity Fund launched by the WHO Foundation and OurCrowd. The Global Health Equity Fund is a $200 million financial-first impact venture capital investment fund that will focus on breakthrough technology solutions that can improve healthcare around the world. It will support the UN’s sustainable development goals, kick-start innovation and increase investment in the health sector. Its mission is to increase equitable access to medical care while also delivering competitive returns to investors. Our announcement triggered a wave of global news coverage, including the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Reuters, CNBC TV Africa, TechCrunch and The Times of Israel. The fund was conceived in the wake of the continuing Covid-19 pandemic, which sent shockwaves through health systems across the world. It exposed chronic weaknesses – even in the world’s most developed countries – the under-funding of healthcare provision, and inequitable access to technology solutions, including vaccines, medicines and diagnostics. Even now, the extensive medical armory developed to fight Covid-19 remains unavailable to the majority of the population of low-income countries. Even before the coronavirus pandemic threw the weaknesses in our global health system into such sharp relief, the growing health inequity between different parts of the world – and even between different regions within countries – was becoming painfully clear. The pandemic was a wake-up call for many high-tech investors and opened their eyes to health inequity around the world. At the same time, those involved in BioTech and related companies were aware of the potential of innovative technology to save lives and deliver medical treatment to more communities via modern technology. Access to essential medical services and basic healthcare is declining rapidly in many countries of the world, irrespective of their wealth or development. High-income countries face mounting crises in their health systems with long waiting lists, inadequate emergency care and overburdened services. Low-income countries struggle to provide basic healthcare and are unable to meet the additional challenge of natural disasters and health emergencies. Beyond direct healthcare, the gap is widening between those with and those without regular access to clean water, fresh food, clean air, adequate waste services and the basic environmental conditions necessary for healthy living. In every country in the world, too many men, women, and children lack access to adequate healthcare because of income disparities and systemic barriers that perpetuate inequity. Despite clear models for successfully balancing economic return with equitable access, such as the provision of medicines for HIV and AIDS, the world failed to deliver solutions for Covid-19 to everyone, everywhere. It is imperative that we deploy solutions in response to that failure, including directing investment to innovation and aligning both to equity as a goal from the start. OurCrowd and our partners at the WHO Foundation believe it is time for a global healthcare transformation that will prioritize practical solutions to these critical and life-threatening challenges. We believe that the key to this transformation lies in technological innovation. To meet this urgent global need the Global Health Equity Fund will focus on developing solutions designed to provide health for all, while creating economic growth. This will be achieved by investing in MedTech, HealthTech and other technologies directly related to medical care, as well as technologies in AgTech, FoodTech and energy transition that help to reduce or eliminate health risks. OurCrowd has a track record in identifying healthcare and sustainability investments able to deliver value to patients, healthcare providers and investors. The collaboration with the WHO Foundation will assist the identification of additional promising investments and facilitate the commitment of investors and entrepreneurs to equitable access to these innovative technologies. An initial fund simulation based on existing relevant companies in the OurCrowd portfolio suggests a net IRR of 18% and a net multiple of 1.73x. Philanthropic causes The fund will be structured to ensure that a significant percentage of the fund’s carried interest will revert to the WHO Foundation to support its philanthropic causes. Associated with the fund is an Access Pledge, an innovation of the WHO Foundation to align investment with commitments by portfolio companies to ensure that their technology solutions are available, accessible, appropriate, and affordable for populations experiencing inequity, particularly in low- and middle-income settings. As part of the Access Pledge, companies will seek to develop a commercially viable Access Plan relevant to their business. The WHO Foundation and OurCrowd will appoint a global health advisory board to provide assistance to these companies so they can plan early for business models that combine economic return with equitable access. The Global Health Equity Fund will focus on healthcare and also on the industries that are direct determinants of health, including energy transition, food and agriculture, which together address markets worth trillions of dollars globally. The target portfolio companies will therefore not only innovate to improve medical care but will also work to mitigate current global health risks related to climate change, fossil fuels, and looming food and water shortages. The WHO Foundation and Our Crowd share the aim of acting as standard bearers within the investment and global health communities, demonstrating the viability of investing to get robust returns, and intended impact, with both goals benefiting from partnership across the private and public sectors. Jonathan Medved is the founder and CEO of OurCrowd, the world’s leading global equity funding platform for accredited investors, based in Jerusalem.

Incognito Mode In Metaverse Explained The Coin Republic
Incognito Mode In Metaverse Explained The Coin Republic
Incognito Mode In Metaverse Explained – The Coin Republic https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/incognito-mode-in-metaverse-explained-the-coin-republic/ Home » Incognito mode in metaverse explained Metaverse represents a dream that most of us only thought possible in movies. It is a persistent online virtual world that lets the users experience it with suitable VR hardware instead of the regular keyboard and mouse. However, data privacy concerns frequently accompany discussions on metaverse. Thus, solutions emerge to ease such worries. In this piece, we’ll explain the recently announced incognito mode in the metaverse. What is the incognito mode? The concept of using a virtual space in a way that it doesn’t track you as much is not revolutionary. You can use a private or incognito mode in your phone or PC web browsers to prevent websites from identifying you and your system from storing your browsing history. Still, the incognito mode has its limits. For instance, your Internet Service Provider can still track you. If you genuinely want to secure your connection, using other tools in addition to incognito mode is best. For instance, a VPN download is one solution that users pick to protect their activities. A Virtual Private Network masks your IP address to hide this identifier. Furthermore, it encrypts and reroutes traffic, making it far more challenging to keep tabs on your browsing. For instance, Internet Service Providers won’t be able to read information about online activities. However, they will see that you use a VPN. So, if the current incognito has its limits, what can we expect from it in the metaverse? How does it differ for the metaverse? When you use the internet through a browser, you generate only a few MB of data that contains the history of the visited pages, your click-through rate (CTR) for specific domains, and a few behavioral parameters. The metaverse can present even more significant privacy concerns. It can pick up the noise from your microphone and analyze your movements to create an accurate body profile. Therefore, the data volume from using the metaverse is much more than simply browsing the internet. As such, you need more creative ways to not only hide the user data but also do it in a manner that neither the server nor the other users can notice. That was a massive challenge that Dawn Song (UC Berkeley), Vivek Nair (UC Berkeley), and Gonzalo Munilla Garrido (Technical University of Munich) set out to conquer. And, eventually, they did. Process of going incognito in the metaverse The augment that the trio came up with is known as the MetaGuard. They based it on the concept of differential privacy, in which a data set is shared with the servers for statistical analysis. Still, there is no practical way to re-identify the user through it. The group has submitted their findings in a research paper to the prestigious Arxiv department of Cryptography and Security, which is part of Cornell University. MetaGuard is built using an open-source C# extension that is compatible with the Unity game engine. Given that most VR worlds today are created using Unity, this tool is accessible to anyone willing to browse the metaverse anonymously. For preliminary tests, the group used the prototype version of MetaGuard in VRChat, one of today’s most prominent social VR worlds. As per their analysis, the extension could lower the user’s pitch by 85 Hz and raise it by 255 Hz. The users also had their geolocation offset by 500 Kilometers (310 miles). Can MetaGuard be used on a large scale? So far, MetaGuard has only been used in a controlled environment, and it has some performance glitches to work out. There is still some time before it becomes operational on a large scale. The team has expressed concerns over how it can put an extreme load on medium and lower-end machines. The paper explains that MetaGuard is supposed to be a safe advertisement tool that doesn’t let corporations collect more data on their target audience than they need to. Since the service provider can still track the activity and data bandwidth, the extension is more like an incognito mode rather than a VPN. Conclusion The development of virtual spaces is in full swing, with several games and social platforms already pushing the boundaries of VR technology. As such, advertisers from big corporations and sinister hacker groups are already gearing up to collect user data for their own purposes. In such a scenario, having a few tools to exercise data privacy can only benefit each user. Although, more effort is required to move the software into more open and uncontrolled virtual environments. Crypto Sites You Need To Avoid At All Costs – News.com.au https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/crypto-sites-you-need-to-avoid-at-all-costs-news-com-au/ Aussie cryptocurrency investors are falling victim to fake websites mimicking popular crypto services. Threat Research Engineer from Netskope, Gustavo Palazolo, told news.com.au of a rising global cryptocurrency ruse which is catching out Australians among other investors across the world. He explained attackers are stealing crypto funds through fake websites which look similar to the real websites used by popular crypto exchanges and wallets. The scam sites are made worse with search engine optimisation (SEO) methods adding to their apparent legitimacy. “Attackers have been creating phishing pages in Google Sites and Microsoft Azure Web App to steal cryptocurrency wallets and accounts from Coinbase, MetaMask, Kraken, and Gemini,” Mr Palazolo said. “In addition, they are adding resources to improve the position of these phishing pages on Google, so that when people search for crypto exchanges, they appear in the first results and get traffic. “When trying to login or import an existing wallet, victims are exposed to a phishing page that requires the login or wallet details that attackers then use to steal the crypto funds. “Attackers also try to communicate with the victims through a live web chat in these fake pages, with the aim to gather additional data required to steal the crypto funds.” Mr Palazolo said the attacks, known as ‘social engineering’, have become good at abusing search engines like Google and Bing to spread malicious links or documents. “A research published by Netskope Threat Labs shows that in the past financial year, there was a sharp increase in the volume of PDF files downloaded from popular search engines and that are used to redirect victims to phishing, scam, and malware,” Mr Palazolo said. Aussie traders at risk With an estimated 17 per cent of Australians owning some sort of cryptocurrency, Mr Palazolo believes a Australians are not spared the risk. “These techniques have proven equally effective around the globe, he said. “The fake pages listed in this research show up in search results in www.google.com.au the same way they do for other regionalised versions of the search engine. In other words, these phishing pages are targeting victims around the world.” Popular crypto services in Australia include Binance, Coinbase, Crypto.com, Kraken and Gate.io, all of which are “actively phished” according to the researcher. Sites in the crosshairs Mr Palazolo said attackers responsible for the phishing campaign have proven to be resilient to countermeasures. “Most of the URLs we found in August are still active and the attacker is taking measures to keep the operation online,” he said. “Furthermore, we found new phishing pages with the same targets disclosed in the initial research, and new phishing pages mimicking Binance, Crypto.com, Gate.io, KuCoin, PancakeSwap, and Shakepay.” Major crypto exchanges and wallets targeted by the phishers include: • MetaMask • Coinbase • Gemini • KuCoin • Crypto.com • Binance • Pancake Sway • Kraken • Gate.io • Shakeplay How the attacks work The victim searches for a cryptocurrency website using specific keywords (e.g. “have MetaMask account”) and the phishing page is displayed first or among the first results. The phishing page mimics the original website and contains a lot of elements to boost SEO. It then redirects the victim to another phishing website via links within the page. The second phishing page tries to steal sensitive information, such as the cryptocurrency account credentials or secret recovery phrases. The last page also comes with a live web chat where the attacker interacts with the victim and will attempt to steal more sensitive data. Keeping your Crypto safe Mr Palazolo believed that attackers will continue to use this method in upcoming months as the way the fake pages are designed makes them very easy to replicate as soon as they are taken down. “Attackers can easily maintain their operations,” he warned. As for avoiding the dodgy sites, direct navigation to your provider is key. “We encourage individuals to never enter or give logins after clicking on a link,” he said. “Instead, always navigate directly to the website you are trying to log into. “This is especially true for financial transactions. Individuals should also use multi-factor authentication to access their accounts, which is a combination of authentication methods. “For example a password and a verification code sent to a mobile phone, or generated in an authenticator app. “On their ends, organisations should use a secure web gateway capable of detecting and blocking phishing in real-time.”

Novartis To Prioritise U.S. Market, Unfazed By Drug Pricing Pushback – Reuters https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/novartis-to-prioritise-u-s-market-unfazed-by-drug-pricing-pushback-reuters/ Swiss drugmaker Novartis’ logo is seen at the company’s plant in the northern Swiss town of Stein, Switzerland October 23, 2017. REUTERS/Arnd Wiegmann/File Photo Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com ZURICH, Sept 22 (Reuters) – Swiss pharma giant Novartis (NOVN.S) said it would make growth in the United States its top geographic priority, even after laws were passed to rein in drug prices in the world’s largest pharmaceutical market. As part of an investor event, the company said on Thursday it would adopt a “U.S.-first mindset”, increase the share of U.S. patients in clinical trials, build capability there and give U.S. staff and executives more say and better career opportunities within the organisation. Novartis’ aspiration is to “organically build its U.S. business to become a top-five player in the U.S. by 2027,” it said in a statement. It ranked 10th in the U.S. market last year, the company added. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com Still, Novartis said it aimed to be a top-three player in China, up from fifth place last year among multinational pharma companies, while maintaining leading positions in Germany and Japan. U.S. President Joe Biden last month signed the Inflation Reduction Act, authorising the government to negotiate prices on some prescription drugs and cap costs for state health programme Medicare. read more In 2024, the government will start negotiating what it will pay for 10 drugs that are among those accounting for the highest Medicare spending, taking effect in 2026. Among changes coming into play sooner, price increases will have to be below the rate of inflation and out-of-pocket payments by patients on pharmacy drugs, known as Part D drugs, will be reduced . “On the inflation caps, while challenging, we believe it’s manageable and (there are) no changes for our guidance with respect to managing through the inflation caps,” Novartis CEO Vas Narasimhan said at the event. “When you look at the Part D reform and how that is capping out patient costs … hopefully over time, you’re providing some uplift in demand,” he added. “If you think about certain categories, like cardiovascular disease, you could see a 3 to 10% uplift in demand.” Novartis also announced a strategy based on eight big drug brands as the company reshapes itself following the decision to spin off Sandoz, its underperforming generics business. Its shares were down 0.9% at 0741 GMT, slightly better than the 1% decline in the STOXX Europe 600 Health Care (.SXDP) index. Novartis said its Cosentyx, Entresto, Zolgensma, Kisqali, Kesimpta, Leqvio, Pluvicto and Scemblix therapies all held multibillion-dollar peak sales potential. The company last month said it planned to spin off Sandoz to sharpen its focus on patented prescription medicines. The spin-off is expected to be completed in the second half of 2023, with Sandoz listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange. read more Novartis has also been pruning other businesses, spinning off its Alcon eye care business in 2019 and last November agreeing to sell a nearly one-third voting stake in Roche (ROG.S). Narasimhan also confirmed Novartis’ previously stated financial targets of 4% annual sales growth through 2027 and a core operating income margin of at least 40%. With a meticulous eye for detail, the artistically shot film highlights the premium quality of this innovative material that has made a complete pivot possible without compromising the appearance or performance of MYKITA’s handcrafted eyewear design. The film is also a showcase for one of Eastman’s pioneering molecular recycling technologies and partly uses CGI to visualize the process whereby previously hard-to-recycle plastics are broken down to the molecular level in order to form recycled acetate in the same quality as the traditional material. This innovation of the circular economy makes it possible to actively divert material waste from landfills, incinerators or ending up in the ocean. Eastman Acetate Renew is a mostly bio-based material made from certified sustainable wood pulp that uses recycled waste plastics in place of fossil-based resources. Identical in look, feel and performance to traditional acetate of the highest quality, Acetate Renew results in an eyewear frame with a much lower carbon footprint, reduced by up to a third when compared to the traditional manufacturing process. We emphasize “civil” at a time when Americans, in the words of the current president, need to “turn down the temperature” of political debates. The State Journal will do its part by more carefully policing this forum. Here are some rules that all commenters must agree to follow: Absolutely no attacks on other commenters, on guest columnists or on authors of letters to the editor. Our print and online opinion pages are sacred marketplaces of ideas where diverse viewpoints are welcome without fear of retribution. You may constructively critique the ideas and opinions of others, but name-calling, stereotyping and similar attacks are strictly prohibited. Leeway will be given for criticism of elected officials and other public figures, but civility is essential. If you focus your criticism on ideas, opinions and viewpoints, you will be less likely to run afoul of our commenting rules. Keep comments focused on the article or commentary in question. Don’t use an article about the Frankfort City Commission, for example, to rant about national politics. Hyperpartisanship that suggests anyone on the other side of an issue or anyone in a particular particular party is evil is not welcome. If you believe that all Democrats are socialists intent on destroying America or that all Republicans are racists, there are lots of places on the internet for you to espouse those views. State-Journal.com is not one. No sophomoric banter. This isn’t a third-grade classroom but rather a place for serious consumers of news to offer their reactions and opinions on news stories and published commentary. No consumer complaints about individual businesses. If you’ve had a bad experience with a private business or organization, contact the Better Business Bureau or the government agency that regulates that business. If you believe the actions of a private business are newsworthy, contact us at news@state-journal.com and we will consider whether news coverage is merited. Absolutely no jokes or comments about a person’s physical appearance. No promotion of commercial goods or services. Our outstanding staff of marketing consultants stands ready to help businesses with effective advertising solutions. If you state facts that have not been previously reported by The State Journal, be sure to include the source of your information. No attacks on State Journal staff members or contributing writers. We welcome questions about, and criticism of, our news stories and commentary but not of the writers who work tirelessly to keep their community informed. Corrections of inaccurate information in news stories should be sent to news@state-journal.com rather than posted in the comments section.

Narrabri Dementia Friendly Community Committee Saying Thank You To Health, Homecare Workers – The Courier – Narrabri Courier https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/narrabri-dementia-friendly-community-committee-saying-thank-you-to-health-homecare-workers-the-courier-narrabri-courier/ As part of Dementia Action week the Narrabri Dementia Friendly Community Committee along with several partners is saying thank you to the health and home care workers who support people living with dementia each day. A free barbecue provided by Narrabri Rotary along with a cuppa or cold drink will be available in the hospital car park on Friday, September 23 from 11am. Kylie Finlay, memory and cognition Registered Nurse with Narrabri Community Health and chair of the Narrabri Dementia Friendly Community committee and her committee members are keen to partner with other Narrabri services to pause and say “thanks” as part of Dementia Action Week this year. Dementia Action Week September 19 to 25 was developed in consultation with Dementia Advocates, who have a lived experience of dementia. The ‘A little support makes a big difference’ campaign demonstrates that many people living with dementia can continue to live well for many years after their diagnosis. Dementia impacts close to half a million Australians and almost 1.6 million Australians are involved in their care. The number of people living with dementia is set to double in the next 25 years. In the past two years, Kylie has organised a “rock drop” along the riverside walk to raise awareness for people living with dementia in the community. This year Kylie has been selling socks from the Memory Walk & Jog fundraising arm of Dementia Australia for action week to health care workers and community, to help with the “Stepping Up for people living with dementia” theme. “We need to continue to promote that many people live happy and healthy lives in the own homes for many years following a diagnosis of dementia. Sadly, there remains a lot of discrimination and it can be a very lonely time for the person and for their carers”. The Narrabri Dementia Friendly Community Committee is working to make Narrabri a more inclusive place to live. “It is also important to celebrate and support the people who work with people living with dementia and their families” says Kylie. “On Friday we want health and home care workers to take a break and enjoy a free barbecue and drink. Socks will be available for sale with proceeds going to Dementia Australia.” “Narrabri Rotary is on board with the barbecue and grant funding from the PHN has allowed us to have the 123 coffee van on site to provide the drinks”, says Kylie. “Like everyone else, our committee has been impacted by COVID restrictions and it is exciting to now be able to continue our work in the Narrabri community. We are grateful to the PHN for funding our committee’s activities this year.” For more information on dementia go to https://www.dementia.org.au/dementia-action-week. Randolph Boys Rally To Beat Ellicottville | News, Sports, Jobs – Evening Observer https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/randolph-boys-rally-to-beat-ellicottville-news-sports-jobs-evening-observer/ ELLICOTTVILLE — Randolph fell behind 3-0 at halftime before a four-goal second half sent the Cardinals to a 4-3 victory, handing Ellicottville its first Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association East Division loss of the season. Griffin Nelson had two goals and two assists while Cooper Freeman added a goal and two assists for Randolph, which improved to 6-3-0 overall and 3-2-0 in the league. Sam Edwards scored the first two goals of the game for Ellicottville (5-2-1, 4-1-0), the first off an assist from EJ Doherty in the 24th minute and the second unassisted in the 30th minute. Maddox Johnson scored the Eagles’ third goal from Aiden Harrington in the 35th minute. “They absolutely dominated us the whole first half. We did not show up to play. Ellicottville took it to us. We were lucky to only be down 3-0,” Randolph head coach David Pihlblad said. “I challenged the kids to compete. They won 50-50 balls. We played scared and nervous. We were nervous to lose the game. I told them to go out and play hard. We changed some things formationally and went for it. The kids responded. We played phenomenal in the second half.” Drew Hind made it 3-1 in the 46th minute off an assist from Nelson before Freeman’s 10th goal of the season made it 3-2 in the 56th minute from Nelson. The Eagles then missed the net on a penalty kick midway through the second half that would’ve made it 4-2. “We had a lot of momentum. We got it to 3-2 and they missed a PK with about 15 minutes left. That kind of kept us going,” Pihlblad said. “If they made that, I don’t know if we make that comeback. After they missed it, it felt meant to be that we could make the comeback.” Nelson tied the game from Freeman in the 66th minute before scoring the winning goal, again from Freeman, in the 76th minute. Nelson now has 14 goals on the season. “I personally challenged them at halftime and we stepped up. We went big up top and tried to take it to them,” Pihlblad said. “Griffin and Cooper did a phenomenal job of creating chances and capitalizing on their opportunities.” Randolph had lost its last two league games to Portville and Falconer/Cassadaga Valley. “Our league is really tough. In the top four teams, anybody can beat anybody on any night,” Pihlblad said. “I told the kids if we could pull this one off, that just opens up the league the second time through. We’re right in the mix and gave ourselves a chance to maybe do something.” Kyle Senn made four saves for the Cardinals and Evan Bauer made five saves for the Eagles. REYNOLDS, WILSHIRE SHINE SALAMANCA — Alex Reynolds had a goal and two assists while Christian Wilshire had a goal and an assist as Falconer/Cassadaga Valley beat Salamanca/Cattaraugus-Little Valley 3-0 at Veterans Park. Wilshire scored from Reynolds to give the Golden Cougars (4-4-1, 3-1-1) a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute. After halftime, Roger Markham scored from Reynolds in the 41st minute and Reynolds scored from Wilshire in the 74th minute. The WarWolves fell to 0-8-0 overall and 0-5-0 in the league. TABONE KEY FOR FREDONIA FREDONIA — Sal Tabone scored a goal in each half to lead Fredonia past Olean 2-1 in West Division play at Fredonia High School. The Huskies (0-8-0, 0-4-0) opened the scoring in the first half on a goal by Brody Frame. Tabone tied the score at 1-1 a few minutes later for the Hillbillies (5-3-1, 3-2-0) by converting a penalty kick. Tabone’s game-winning goal came with approximately 20 minutes remaining in the second half. Andrew Cowan was in goal for Fredonia, which travels to play Westfield on Saturday at 10 a.m. PORTVILLE COASTS TO WIN PORTVILLE — A six-goal first half was all Portville needed in a 6-0 shutout of Pine Valley/Gowanda in the East Division. Michael Cole and Cole Faulkner each scored twice while Brady German had a goal and two assists for Portville (5-3-1, 3-1-1). Bryan Randolph had a goal and an assist, and Simon Szymanski had an assist. Pine Valley/Gowanda fell to 1-6-0 overall and 1-4-0 in the league. RESTIVO POWERS RAIDERS DUNKIRK — Angelo Restivo scored a pair of first-half goals to lead Jamestown past Dunkirk 5-1 in the West Division. Noah Rivera and Restivo’s goals gave the Red Raiders a 3-0 lead before Brady Corbett scored the Marauders’ lone goal just before halftime. After the break, Noah Burch and Restivo scored for Jamestown (3-4-0, 2-3-0). Both Lincoln Carpenter and Rivera picked up their second assists in the second half and Andres Pacheco had the fifth assist. Logan McIntosh made seven saves in net for the win. Greg Orcutt made 18 saves for Dunkirk (1-6-0, 0-4-0). Today’s breaking news and more in your inbox

Inkeverse Launches Social Metaverse Product Targeted At Gen Z – Pandaily https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/inkeverse-launches-social-metaverse-product-targeted-at-gen-z-pandaily/ Chinese social networking firm Inkeverse is continuing its push into the metaverse with the launch of a new social product for overseas markets called “The Place.” As a 3D virtual social platform for Generation Z consumers in Europe and the United States, it provides users with immersive social experiences through virtual scenes and images, as well as through real-time audio interaction. This is the first overseas metaverse product launched by Inkeverse since changing its name from “Inke” in June this year. After logging in, users can customize the face and clothes of their virtual image freely, wander around in different scenes, interact with their partners in real time, and participate in online activities. One of the most important features of the metaverse is 3D immersion. In terms of user experience and UI design, The Place has strong immersion and real-time interaction functions. A diversified and rich entertainment scene has been added to meet social needs. Considering that the main users are Gen Z consumers in Europe and the United States, The Place features skateboarding and graffiti in nightclubs, music rooms, video rooms, and more. The team behind The Place is responsible for Web3 projects in Inkeverse. Project leader Liu Zhiqiang said that at present, social metaverse has many labels, such as virtual images, virtual scenes, games, combinination with hardware, and more. Apart from difficulties with infrastructure and technology, Liu believes that solving the needs of social interaction is the key, and that the fundamental logic of designing products is to grasp the needs of users. The secret to making a good product for overseas markets is to have a quick and accurate understanding of local cultural habits, popular elements, preferences, needs and so on. A considerable number of Inkeverse’s team members have rich experience and overseas study backgrounds. The project team will also find local young people to do part-time jobs, such as local research and feedback collection, so that the company can adjust the product strategy in real time. Inkeverse achieved revenue of 4.061 billion yuan ($573 million) in the first half of the year, up 0.7% year-on-year, according to the company’s first financial results report since changing its name. The net loss in H1 was 111 million yuan, compared with a net profit of 142 million yuan a year earlier. The company didn’t disclose operating data of its metaverse business. SEE ALSO: Social Metaverse Platform Soul Showcases Ling OS and NAWA Engine On May 16 this year, Inkeverse announced the start of its metaverse business by issuing over 1,000 NFTs jointly with HootLabs, an overseas NFT platform. Two days later, the industry’s first karaoke app based on metaverse was launched. On June 9, it launched a metaverse romance product called “Couple Planet,” allowing couples to create a private space in the metaverse. Inkeverse aims to increase the integration of socialization and metaverse, and to build a richer and multi-dimensional scene to meet the more subdivided needs of users.

Beam EScooter Review – Is It Safe To Ride In Malaysia? – TechNave https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/beam-escooter-review-is-it-safe-to-ride-in-malaysia-technave/ Why are we reviewing a Beam eScooter (a.k.a. Beam Saturn+, but let’s just call it the eScooter) and can you even buy this? Well, we are a tech media website, after all… And no, you can’t buy one here. To be frank, I was also surprised when Beam Malaysia contacted us to review it. But I guess it was to test out how well and safe the eScooter is due to increased usage in Malaysia recently. Before I get started, let me share the story of my first time using the Beam eScooter. The year was 2020, just before the pandemic happened, and I got invited by AMD to check out the Ryzen 4000 Series Processors in Texas. I used to have a Xiaomi Electric eScooter, so I’m quite experienced with them. And I was delighted to know that I could get around some areas in Texas with the Beam eScooter just outside of a hotel. This is one BIG BOI (so big that it’s almost impossible to fit into a car) I didn’t use it that much, though, because I had to pay in USD. But I still remember how big and sturdy it was. Compared with the Xiaomi Electric eScooter, the Beam eScooter is a lot more robust. I remember drifting on the wet road a bit when making a turn; you have to take my word for it because it was a pretty cool moment. Fast forward to today, the Beam eScooter is how I remembered it but with some new things. Now that I get to fully explore the whole vehicle, there are a couple of interesting features that I got to try, starting with the app. The Beam app is fairly straightforward, and by tapping at the Settings on the top left, you will see a bunch of options for you to get started. But since I’m reviewing it, I don’t have the customer rider feature to show you where and how you should pay for it. The Beam app home page The Tools in the Settings Still, the Tools in Settings are where most of the useful features are. You can do a bunch of stuff, such as diagnosing or inspecting the battery. But for me, the most important one is the lock and unlock function. So if you happen to park the scooter at a designated destination or random place where you’re scared it might get stolen, you can very much rely on this because it will set a speed limit (so nobody can ride away with it). Trust me, nobody is ever gonna bother stealing it. Although the speed limit is set when locked, you can still push the scooter but I doubt the thief would get very far (it’s like trying to push a dead cow, figuratively speaking). You can also rely on the Beam app to easily locate it since it’s already paired, so don’t fret. Additionally, you will find other functions like on/off for the headlight. But you don’t really need to use it that much because the Beam eScooter automatically switches it on if you’re riding at night. It has two brakes on each handle for some reason My thumb is too short to reach for the headlight switch lol Left: The headlight on the front; Right: An iPhone on the phone holder Left: The cupholder and speaker; Right: The stand holder and front wheel The red light behind shines quite brightly, and the wheels aren’t the air-pump type Let there be light In terms of riding experience, the Beam eScooter definitely feels safe. I’ve had my fair share of falls, from the Xiaomi Electric eScooter and a non-electrical type with almost uncontrollable speed (not recommended, no matter how cheap it is). Due to the weight, it’s able to stabilise speed and momentum quite well, even when taking a corner. I’m not sure how fast the Beam eScooter can go, but that doesn’t really matter. For safety, the micro vehicle has a limitation of 25km/h, no matter how hard you try. Even when going downhill, the scooter can detect the velocity and try to slow down. Personally, I find this very helpful as it helps prevent potential accidents down the road. Also, it’s powerful enough to go uphill, but not when it’s too steep. Before and after putting a cup of coke in the cup holder, I was really worried that it would spill, but thank goodness it didn’t The battery pack is huge! Fortunately, I don’t think you really need to worry about the battery performance. The Beam eScooter has a 15300mAh battery, so it has plenty of juice to go around, even when half-full. Even if you have the eScooter with you for the whole month (and you can’t turn the Beam eScooter off), you only need to charge it overnight once a week, and you’re good to go. Of course, it varies on how often you ride it.  All in all, Beam Malaysia is doing a good job of making the eScooter an enjoyable and safe riding experience. However, the same cannot be said for many Malaysian roads. Per Malaysian law, micro vehicles have been prohibited on the main roads. But even so, most Malaysian roads don’t exactly have the most pedestrian-friendly paths. Broken sidewalks, chairs and tables on the pathways, motorcycles parking illegally and many more. The best way to ride the scooters is in a park or around your neighbourhood. Wanna ride with me? But what do you think of Beam eScooter? Are you keen on taking it out for a spin with your friends and family? Crypto Prices Sink During Seesaw Day The Fed decreed and crypto markets scrambled, sending assets higher in the initial hours following the U.S. central bank’s latest, hefty interest rate hike, and then spiraling. Bitcoin was recently trading at abut $18,500, a more than 2% decline over the past 24 hours, although the largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization dipped well below $18,400 at one point Monday (UTC), its lowest level since early June. A year ago, BTC’s price was more than double its current level. Ether was recently changing hands at roughly $1,250, a roughly 5.5% drop from the previous day. The price of the second largest crypto by market value has been tumbling in the aftermath of last week’s Merge, the landmark technological overhaul of the Ethereum network as investors prioritize its potential, longer-term benefits over immediate price impact. Investors will soon be eyeing next year’s Ethereum’s “Shanghai” upgrade, which will allow users to withdraw staked ETH. Other cryptos followed a similar price pattern, rising immediately after the rate announcement before plummeting, with EOS recently off more than 10% and YGG and ADA both down over 4%. Crypto prices tracked major stock indexes, which also seesawed during the day, rising early before plunging post-announcement. The tech-heavy Nasdaq and S&P 500, which has a robust technology component, each dropped 1.7%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) fell 1.8% as markets chewed over Federal Reserve comments indicating more harsh inflationary medicine to come. The declines did not sweep up exchange giant Coinbase and other crypto-exposed companies, which rose on the day. The Fed raised interest rates a robust 75 basis points for a third consecutive time after the most recent price data showed inflation remaining stubbornly high and the economy slowing more gradually than the bank had hoped, including a still torrid job market. The consensus among officials involved in the latest policy decision is for the bank to raise rates a total of 1.25% at its two remaining Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meetings this year. The Fed hopes to lower inflation to 2% from its current, near four-decade high over 8%. “My main message has not changed at all,” Fed Chair Jerome Powell said during a press conference, referencing his speech at the Fed’s Economic Symposium last month in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. “The FOMC is strongly resolved to bring inflation down to 2% and we will keep at it until the job is done.” The rate increase highlighted a day of concerning events for the global economy. Two-year Treasury yields, which have moved in opposite direction of crypto prices, soared over 4% following the Fed announcement, their highest level in 15 years. And home sales declined for a seventh straight month. With 30-year-fixed mortgage rates already soaring to 6% for the first time in almost 15 years, the drop-off should continue. Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin ratcheted up macroeconomic uncertainty, announcing the call-up of 300,000 troops to bolster the country’s rapidly faltering invasion of the Ukraine. The unprovoked attack has affected energy prices and global supply chains. Yet inflation and monetary policy remained central for most crypto investors and observers of the space. Riyad Carey, a research analyst at crypto data firm Kaiko noted “a sharper price reaction to the CPI release than to the [Ethereum upgrade] Merge.” “I don’t foresee crypto, especially BTC and ETH, bucking the Fed’s influence any time soon,” he said. Biggest Gainers There are no gainers in CoinDesk 20 today. Biggest Losers What’s Next for Ethereum Post-Merge? Last week’s Ethereum Merge drew 40,000 viewers to one popular viewing party but the long-awaited shift to a faster, more environmentally friendly proof-of-work protocol did little to impress many traders. In a textbook sell-the-news scenario, they’ve sent ether prices tumbling more than 15% during the past week. The decline has dovetailed with plunging equity markets and rumblings about possible centralization of the Ethereum network in the Twittersphere. “Lido and Coinbase alone represent just under 45% of total validation,” Paul McCaffrey, crypto strategist at KBW, highlighted in an email to CoinDesk. “Lido leads at 30.1% with ~ 4.16M ETH, followed by Coinbase at 14.5% with 2M ETH.” Ether’s decline has raised fundamental questions about Ethereum’s future, and while optimism runs high about the platform’s potential long-run benefits, some prominent observers also have concerns that the Merge will create new obstacles. A lure for ESG investors? McCaffrey said he remained “in the bullish camp” over the medium-to-long term, as more network validators join the network and alleviate such concerns over time. “The Merge represents a landmark industry event and has the potential to draw ESG investors into the mix who will appreciate the energy efficient angles and the opportunity ETH brings to the masses (especially the unbanked),” he explained. Others shared the sentiment, stating that they viewed the Merge as a long-term indicator of strong fundamentals despite recent price hiccups. “The Merge could be more of a longer-term playout in the price as the upgrade is likely to attract more institutions, which could benefit ETH/USD price over a longer term,” Austin Kimm, director of strategy at Choise, said. “Ethereum is still the granddaddy of all blockchains with approximately half of all tokens being created on and using the network.” Elsewhere, Anto Paroian, executive director at the crypto hedge fund ARK36, told CoinDesk that Ethereum’s “big test” had only just begun. “Although the proof-of-work and the proof-of-stake blockchains have successfully merged, only now would it be possible to discover the full impact of the Merge on the vast ecosystem of apps built on top of the Ethereum blockchain,” Paroian said, referring to the billions of dollars worth of cryptocurrencies locked up on Ethereum-based applications. “This includes the DeFi space which is currently valued at around $56 billion. We should all be prepared for strong downside volatility in case of any glitches and previously unforeseen mishaps,” Paroian noted. Apart from the near-term market and technological impact, some observers say ether is likely to receive legal scrutiny in the coming months due to the rewards that the network awards to users to run nodes, or specialized blockchain software, to process transactions on Ethereum. “(There’s) the possibility of recognizing ETH as a security token. On the one hand, after the transition to PoS, the coin will have signs of security, such as, for example, the expectation of making a profit. And many financiers say that such an outcome is possible,” Serhii Zhdanov, CEO of crypto exchange EXMO, said in a Telegram message. Zhdanov warned that such an outcome would create a “disaster for ordinary users,” one that could even see “delisting of its token from crypto exchanges” in the worst-case scenario. In case you missed it, here is the most recent episode of “First Mover” on CoinDesk TV: Joining “First Mover” to discuss the central bank’s policy meeting and his crypto markets outlook was Ben Emons of Global Macro Strategy. Also, the Blockchain Foundation’s Cleve Mesidor weighed in on crypto regulation, and Zappos founder and Golden State Warriors co-owner Nick Swinmurn talked about his new NFT-based prediction game, Play Hellebore. Wall Street Bank CEOs Tell Congress They’re Unlikely to Finance Crypto Miners: The chief executives of Citigroup, Bank of America and Wells Fargo were questioned Wednesday at a congressional hearing. Crypto-Linked Stocks Rally After Fed Rate Hike: Cryptocurrency-exposed stocks rose along with bitcoin and ether following the Federal Reserve’s announcement Wednesday to boost the interest rate 75 basis points. Amid Market Rout, Crypto Miners Are Still Building: Crypto miners are still developing innovative data centers despite a souring market that has some miners struggling to survive. Fed Hikes Rates to Highest Since 2007; Bitcoin Slides Toward $19K: This is the third consecutive time that members of the Federal Open Market Committee raised rates by 75 basis points, signaling how serious inflationary pressures have gotten in the U.S. The bitcoin market doesn’t like it.

U.S. Lawmakers Pile Pressure On Big Banks Over China Ties, Taiwan – Reuters https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/u-s-lawmakers-pile-pressure-on-big-banks-over-china-ties-taiwan-reuters/ JPMorgan Chase & Co President and CEO Jamie Dimon attends a U.S. House Financial Services Committee hearing titled “Holding Megabanks Accountable: Oversight of America’s Largest Consumer Facing Banks” on Capitol Hill in Washington, U.S., September 21, 2022. REUTERS/Elizabeth Frantz Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com WASHINGTON, Sept 22 (Reuters) – Top U.S. bankers came under pressure from lawmakers on Wednesday to take a tougher stance on doing business with China amid growing tensions between Washington and Beijing over Taiwan’s sovereignty and China’s human rights record. During a hearing before the U.S. House Financial Services Committee, Republican congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer pressed bank chief executives on how they would respond in the hypothetical event of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan. Lawmakers also asked the CEOs to condemn China’s “human rights abuses,” in a departure from previous hearings that tended to focus on domestic issues like housing and consumer protection. The increased scrutiny underscores the challenges the country’s largest lenders increasingly face as they try to balance commercial interests with pressure from policymakers, activists and investors to take stances on environmental, social and governance issues. Wall Street giants including JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs Group Inc and Morgan Stanley have sought in recent years to expand their businesses in China, the world’s second-largest economy. Authorities there have granted U.S. banks more ownership of their securities businesses despite rising geopolitical tension and economic competition between the two nations. JPMorgan, which has been in China since 1921, serves Chinese and international corporations, financial institutions and government agencies. Last year it became the first foreign firm to fully own a securities venture in China. Taiwan’s government rejects China’s sovereignty claims. Congressman Luetkemeyer asked Fraser what Citigroup would do if a war over Taiwan broke out. “It’s a hypothetical question,” Fraser said. “It’s highly likely that we will have a reduced presence.” Citigroup has a global reach that spans more than 160 countries. When asked later by Republican Lance Gooden if she would condemn “ongoing human rights abuses in China,” Fraser hesitated. “Condemn is a strong word,” she said. “We certainly are very distressed to see it.” JPMorgan’s Dimon also warned the United States had to compete with global Chinese banks, which have grown in size over the last few years to become the biggest in the world. “I am going to do everything in my power to make sure we compete with the best Chinese banks in the world. Former YouTube Gaming Lead Gives Twitch Candid Advice Amid Revenue Split Controversy – Dexerto https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/former-youtube-gaming-lead-gives-twitch-candid-advice-amid-revenue-split-controversy-dexerto/ Eleni Thomas. Last updated: 2022-09-22T04:08:57 YouTube Gaming’s former lead has weighed in on Twitch’s handling of their streamers, and suggests what they should do to help improve overall revenue for creators. When it comes to streaming, the two main outlets constantly finding themselves going head to head are Twitch and YouTube Gaming. Over the years, both platforms have grown to the point where they now have exclusivity over certain streamers. Just recently, Twitch announced they are planning on cutting subscription revenue for some of the platform’s top streamers in an effort to continue pushing ads. It’s got everyone talking, including former YouTube Gaming lead Ryan Wyatt. No novice to the streaming space, the once-head of Twitch’s biggest competitor believes the Amazon-owned platform is making a mistake with the new revenue split. Wyatt begins the post by declaring his love for Twitch — it was his “first home” when he began streaming back in 2010. However, Wyatt quickly weighs in on the way Twitch manages and compensates for its talent: “It is disheartening to take creator earnings in this fashion and I am hopeful they will get this right in the long term.” The former YouTube gaming boss then breaks it down into two categories — non-ads revenue, and infrastructure costs — revealing what he thinks needs to be done about the two areas. “Regardless if size, the creator should be getting a disproportionate amount — this shouldn’t be even up for debate,” he explained. “Creators drive a disproportionate amount of the work to grow non-ads revenue. They are doing the leg work to move these products, unlike selling ads against their content. “I am certain their infrastructure costs are significant, despite even an Amazon ‘discount’. You don’t have a lot of levers to pull to grow revenue if you aren’t scaling watch time substantially. This is the conundrum live-only platforms will face. “The best way for Twitch to grow monetization would be not to be shortsighted and take advantage of their live dominance by adjusting revenue share, but rather leverage that dominance to grow non-live gaming viewership on the platform to help scale their ads business out.” People online have been responding positively to Wyatt’s suggestions, praising his optimism and “forward thinking” as well as the way he appears to see streamers are “real people” and not just a way to make money. In recent months, the performance of Twitch has come under fire. From unequal enforcement of rules, to DMCA rulings, adult content, and harassment on the platform, streamers have had a bone to pick. Twitch’s decision to ban gambling on the platform is one positive move many have highlighted, but this recent news shows there’s still a long way to go.

Vacation Rental Ruse: How An Idyllic Farmland Property Lured Many In The Chicago-Area For Thousands Of Dollars NBC Chicago
Vacation Rental Ruse: How An Idyllic Farmland Property Lured Many In The Chicago-Area For Thousands Of Dollars NBC Chicago
Vacation Rental Ruse: How An Idyllic Farmland Property Lured Many In The Chicago-Area For Thousands Of Dollars – NBC Chicago https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/vacation-rental-ruse-how-an-idyllic-farmland-property-lured-many-in-the-chicago-area-for-thousands-of-dollars-nbc-chicago/ It was branded as an outdoor adventure. Only a three-hour drive southwest of Chicago, customers could escape to the town of Farmington, Ill., staying at an eight-bedroom, 30-acre lakeside vacation rental retreat.  Surrounded by open farm land, online advertisements for “Norris Outdoor Adventure” showed water slides, a rope swing, games for the kids, and even more reassuring, a smiling, friendly and relatable owner dedicated to their every need. The rental was described as a dream find for many who were planning cross-country family reunions, even weddings at the space. But the dream wasn’t a reality. Instead, customers tell NBC 5 they had their reservations canceled, sometimes literally last minute as they were driving down to the property.  When customers called the owner for their refund, with contracts in hand laying out that very promise, they say the owner “ghosted” them, never to be heard from again. For months, NBC 5 Responds has investigated how a single vacation rental outside of Peoria took many Chicago-area families for thousands of dollars, and the mysterious owner behind the listing that these customers say is to blame.   That owner dodged our calls, emails and requests for comment over many months, offering no insight into what happened.   The complaints have gotten the attention of law enforcement in Farmington, who confirmed to NBC 5 they are actively investigating many complaints involving the property and its owner.  Records obtained through Freedom of Information Act requests paint a picture of a mountain of debt and despair, all centered around the spacious and charming property many hopeful customers now believe they will never see in person. It all started with one customer’s experience, and as NBC 5 continued to ask questions, the list grew to include many more. News articles show “Norris Outdoor Adventure” opened at this property in 2018 on Dee Bee Road in Farmington, Ill. Melissa Oskroba out of Naperville told NBC 5 earlier this year she discovered “Norris Outdoor Adventure” while surfing through the vacation rental website VRBO. “We were super excited about it,” Oskroba said. “[Norris] checked off all of our areas: eight bedrooms, water, yard for the kids. Affordable.” For five years now, Oskroba and seven other friends and their immediate families have gathered for Labor Day. But with the kids and attendance list growing each year, finding the right space proved to be harder than it sounds.   Clicking through the photos and videos of the property, Oskroba thought Norris seemed to be the perfect match for this cherished tradition. At $3,600 for three nights, and enough space for her entire party, Oskroba thought she hit the jackpot.  Photos shared online and taken by former customers show the lake amenities advertised at Norris Outdoor Adventure. That’s when she said she met Amy Shymansky, the owner of the property, and she felt a connection.   “It sounded like I was talking to my mom,” Oskroba recalls, noting that the experience was seemingly going so well, “I was about to call her to start locking up future years of reservations.”  Oskroba paid in full for a reservation this past Labor Day 2022, and months went by before the first curveball. That’s when Oskroba said Shymansky messaged to say she had yanked the property from VRBO so she could more closely vet her guests. But there was a silver lining: Shymansky would be listing the property herself, offering the same deal. Oskroba, worried she couldn’t find a place in time with the same number of bedrooms and space for her family and friends, booked directly with Shymansky. The deal included what Oskroba thought was protection: A contract with a clear cancellation policy, cancel a reservation 30 days or more prior to their reservation date, and they can expect a full refund. Oskroba reserved the property through Shymansky, not giving it a second thought until weeks later, when she tried to pull up the listing online. “It had that 404 no longer valid website message,” Oskroba said. “Then I started digging and within probably 15-20 minutes is when I came across Yelp that had a lot of complaints on there.” Customers on the business review website Yelp complained of falling into a trap Oskroba feared she was already in. “The owner has literally stolen my deposit for the use of this property,” one Norris customer wrote. Another said the owner, “took our money and never responded when we contacted her for keys.” “They will take your money, sign contracts, then ghost you,” a third customer wrote. Oskroba said she was beside herself.   “I just started crying,” Oskroba said. “I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, what am I going to do?’” Oskroba said she contacted Shymansky to formally cancel the reservation, but eventually, she too was ghosted. No more friendly contacts from the owner, and no word on her refund. Melissa Oskroba of Naperville, Ill. is one of many Norris customers who tell NBC 5 Responds they are owed thousands of dollars in refunds. Through her persistence, Oskroba decided to go another route: Find, organize and communicate with as many other Norris customers she could find online. Oskroba said many got back to her, and eventually, someone in the group contacted NBC 5 Responds for assistance, saying they too were out big money, with no R&R to show for it. Customers like Tinley Park grandmother Claudia Allred.  “I was determined,” Allred told NBC 5 Responds. “[Shymansky] is not going to keep my money!” Allred’s family had stayed at Norris once before in 2020, so she booked again for the following year. She too felt charmed by Shmansky, remarking she was like a “best friend.” But two days before her family was planning to make the second trip to the property in June 2021, Allred said Shymansky messaged her, canceling the reservation. To date, Allred said she has received no refund. Among the customers, NBC 5 also talked with two couples who were planning to have their weddings at the Norris property, but said they had their dream dates disappear, along with their deposits. “It was the first place we looked at and we fell in love,” said Jay Rudisill of BlueGrass, Iowa.  Jay Rudisill and his now-wife, Karen, visited the Norris property in-person and walked away thinking “that was where we were going to have our wedding.” The couple put down a $9,300 deposit, but as the months ticked by closer to their date, Jay Rudisill said Shymansky grew silent. Karen and Jay Rudisill tell NBC 5 Responds they were planning to have their wedding at the Farmington, Ill. property, until Shymansky stopped speaking with them. Seeing that as a red flag, the Rudisills decided to cancel their reservation, knowing they would likely have a fraction of their deposit taken. They said they never imagined it would be the full amount. “I’ve given up hope that I will ever see that money again,” Jay Rudisill told NBC 5, after he said Shymansky stopped returning his calls, emails and even letters demanding his money back. The couple eventually held their wedding on a relative’s property, but were left feeling scorned. When Allred heard about the Rudisills, and other customers in the self-named Norris “support group”, she said she couldn’t believe how many people were allegedly owed money from Shymansky. “I felt like, ‘Why, you dirty dog! You’re doing this to so many people!’” Allred told NBC 5. NBC 5 confirmed through contracts and customers’ communication with Shymansky six individual Norris customers who had their reservations canceled before staying at the property, and who were collectively owed more than $24,000. Some customers have taken Shymansky to court, where they prevailed and had to file liens on the Norris property in hopes of getting any of their money back.  Fulton County records show those liens have company, including a lien filed on the property by the IRS for more than $470,000. While the support group of customers was chasing Amy Shymansky for answers, so was NBC 5 Responds. For months, we tried contacting Shymansky by phone, through emails and by contacting many attorneys who have represented Shymansky in court over the years. Eventually, Trygve Meade, Shymansky’s most recent counsel, told NBC 5, “I’m sorry, but I haven’t been authorized by my client to make any comment on this situation. As a result, I have to decline.” At one point, some of the support group members of former Norris customers said Meade had contacted them personally, promising news would come about their refunds. But eventually, they said he too “ghosted them.”  One office that did return our calls was the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department, serving the idyllic farmland area where Norris Outdoor Adventure is located on Dee Bee Road. A spokesperson said investigators have “received complaints [about] Norris Outdoor Adventure, and are conducting an investigation.”  The trouble for Shymansky continues. NBC 5 Responds found a bench warrant active out of Peoria for Shymansky’s arrest, tied to an unrelated lawsuit and judgment not yet paid by the woman. State records show that the business license for Norris Outdoor Adventure was “involuntarily dissolved” back in 2019, after the company failed to file annual reports with the Illinois Secretary of State’s office. And most recently, court records show the former owner of the Farmington property, who sold it to Shymansky in a “contract for deed” transaction, prevailed in eviction court, with a Judge signing an eviction order forcing Shymansky to surrender and vacate the property by Aug. 26, 2022. Shymansky is currently appealing the Judge’s decision. Hearing this news hasn’t calmed the nerves of Sh...

FinTech Awards Wales Exclusive Interview: PwC Business News Wales
FinTech Awards Wales – Exclusive Interview: PwC – Business News Wales https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/fintech-awards-wales-exclusive-interview-pwc-business-news-wales/ Matt Hyde, Director of FinTech Awards Wales Meets: Katherine Adlard, Financial Services Tax Leader at PwC _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ As part of our new interview series, Matt Hyde, Director of Recruit121 and FinTech Awards Wales, talks to professionals in Wales’ thriving FinTech Sector. This week Matt meets Katharine Adlard, Financial Services Tax Leader at PwC. Tell us about your main focus at PwC I am Katharine Adlard, PwC Director and leader of the Financial Services Tax team in Wales & the West, and have worked with businesses in the FS sector for 17 years. PwC are proud of our full-suite local FS specialist team working across Tax, Deals, Audit and Consulting, with experts advising on FS matters in all sectors of the industry based in our Cardiff and Bristol offices. I mainly advise and audit established, regulated FS businesses such as insurance companies and retail banks /  building societies, but am increasingly being called upon to advise new FS startups. I have a hands-on approach and get to know my clients’ businesses in order to ensure we offer them the best service we can, preemptively and proactively. I have a particular interest in FinTech and how it can disrupt and shake up the traditional FS offering and I have been involved in FinTech West since its inception – facilitating sessions through PwC’s partnership, sharing insight in the industry and contributing to thought leadership including the recent WECA Bristol and Bath FinTech cluster strategy report. To that end, I have recently been invited to join the FinTech West Advisory Board which I look forward to. I also work closely with FinTech Wales, and am currently planning several jointly hosted events for later in the Autumn leveraging the deep understanding of SMEs we have at PwC in the field of cyber security and digital currency in particular. PwC has a large and growing Cyber team in Cardiff, with a centre of excellence for Cyber Security and Data & Analytics – we are fortunate to have many talented individuals within Wales. What impact do you feel FinTech  Awards Wales are making in the FinTech sector in Wales? The FinTech Awards Wales provides a valuable space to showcase and recognise the best of the FinTech sector among their peers. Building momentum, while bringing FinTech people together, will enhance the FinTech network and community and enable Wales’ successes to be showcased amongst others elsewhere. The Awards, now in their third year and sponsored from the beginning by PwC, grow from strength to strength, and it is great to see businesses we first heard of during 2019 now flourishing – doing exactly what the Awards set out to do which is to provide a platform for success. Why have you chosen to support the Awards and in particular the Rising Star of the Year Award? PwC sees both the FinTech and broader technology sectors as key in the future success of Wales – we are championing this through #TechEnableWales, our initiative that brings everything we’re doing in tech under one umbrella. We want to recognise and encourage the fantastic entrepreneurial businesses who bring to life the wide range of solutions provided by FinTech, including a number of disruptors and creative problem explorers. We feel it is vitally important to highlight and celebrate the best of Fintech in Wales, particularly on the back of the momentum gained from the Kalifa report and in the challenging economic environment we find ourselves in. The ‘Rising FinTech Star’ category resonates with PwC’s vision and community ethos to grow and develop the best upcoming talent. PwC have several programmes that we run to train and encourage people in the industry – including the national #TechSheCan initiative through to our local joint Masters programme with Cardiff University the ‘MSc in Cybersecurity & Technology’. The FinTech businesses of Wales owe their success to the people behind the scenes running the show with passion, innovation, drive and skill and PwC applaud and encourage that. How do you feel the Welsh economy has fared post Covid and what predictions do you have for the next 12 months? Clearly there are many political and economic uncertainties surrounding the outlook for both Wales and the UK more generally at present, so businesses would be well advised to prepare for a range of different scenarios. Buying habits are changing and the events of 2022 so far only go to reiterate the challenging times that we live in. The cost of living crisis will dominate the headlines for the Welsh economy over the next 12 months. UK-wide, consumer sentiment has continued to drop, and there’s evidence that Wales is feeling inflationary pressures particularly keenly. We recently asked businesses across the UK whether they had raised the prices of their goods and services in June; 24% of Welsh respondents had, which tracked above the UK average. In our view it’s really important for Wales to continue to embrace new technologies. The FinTech cluster is a perfect example for us to punch above our weight and shine on the world stage. What is PwC doing today to support FinTech in the future? Supporting innovative businesses is something PwC does well here in Wales. With dedicated local resource supporting both Private Business and Financial Services, we are passionate about making a difference and recognising success. We bring a unique combination of specialists who can talk to all the complexities of start-up business in a financial services and regulatory context. The Welsh FinTech ecosystem already has a great collaborative style and at our upcoming events partnering with FinTech Wales and Cardiff University we hope to harness what’s at the heart of successful FinTech partnerships, and how FinTechs of all shapes and sizes can scale for success. Whether a FinTech just starting out or an established financial services provider, partnerships and collaboration are fundamental to the ability to scale. Putting the right support around an organisation, connecting with regional networks, and finding opportunities to collaborate – with other FinTechs, with incumbents, and even with the regulator – are just some examples of the foundations for success that PwC supports. Through our links in to FinTech Wales and FinTech West, we are providing resource, experience and insight to the FinTech ecosystem and community, and assisting in training the talent of the future through our #TechEnableWales campaign and other local and national initiatives such as the MSc in Cybersecurity & Technology with Cardiff University. PwC remains committed to the national FinTech Alliance which we continue to partner as well as running and facilitating our own accelerator programme – Scale | FinTech 5.0 for 2022. Finally what’s the best advice you were given and what advice you would give? Support and collaborate with others willingly. Be bold with your great ideas and seek help on your journey. Some of the best stories have been borne out of challenge or even failure, so don’t be afraid of that and show passion, determination and resilience to allow you and your ideas to grow.

Laguna Niguels Stephanie Winstead: An Advocate For Business Owners The Epoch Times
Laguna Niguel’s Stephanie Winstead: ‘An Advocate For Business Owners’ – The Epoch Times https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/laguna-niguels-stephanie-winstead-an-advocate-for-business-owners-the-epoch-times/ Laguna Niguel resident Stephanie Winstead seeks one of the two open seats for city council in the upcoming Nov. 8 election. Her opponents are Melissa Caldwell, Ray Gennawey, Javad Mokhbery, Stephanie Oddo, and Jeff von Waldburg. Winstead has been active in the Laguna Niguel Chamber of Commerce, the city’s investment banking and audit committee as well as on the city’s Transportation and Parks and Recreation commissions. She completed her undergraduate work at UC Irvine and graduated from Chapman Law with a tax law emphasis. “I’ve been active in the city for over a decade … I’ve done so many things there are to do within the city, with the exception of sitting on the city council,” she told The Epoch Times. (Courtesy of Stephanie Winstead) Winstead’s activism with the city started when her father-in-law suggested she join the Chamber of Commerce, saying doing so would be good for her newly opened business. “I didn’t even know what the Chamber of Commerce was, [or] what it did,” she said. In 2009, after establishing her law practice, which specializes in of estate planning and will and trust child guardianship, she joined. She said it was “nice to be an advocate with business owners and make sure that Laguna Niguel remains a business-friendly city.” She also helped spearhead a program in 2020 which created more than 2,000 handmade Valentine’s day cards for veterans and active military members. Winstead is endorsed by former Laguna Niguel mayors Gary Capata, Robert Ming, and John Mark Jennings as well as by California State Assemblywoman and former Laguna Niguel Mayor Laurie Davies. She said if elected key issues she will address are funding and resources for public safety, supporting small businesses, maintaining a debt-free city with fiscal responsibility, preserving open spaces like parks and trails and continuing services that help senior citizens maintain healthy living. She said she first learned of Laguna Niguel when driving through the city on her way to Laguna Beach. “I had this feeling of this place feels like home, this is where I need to be,” she said. Winstead and her husband, Ray, ultimately moved to the city in 2009 after stints in Irvine, Laguna Hills, and Aliso Viejo. According to the city’s most recent filings, she has raised $33,000 in campaign contributions through the end of June. Campaign finance disclosure documents show she has raised about $27,000 from Jan. 1, 2021, through the end of June 2022, and has made a $14,000 personal loan to her campaign. Follow

Browns Steelers Get Set To Face Off In Cleveland Warren Tribune Chronicle
Browns, Steelers Get Set To Face Off In Cleveland – Warren Tribune Chronicle https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/browns-steelers-get-set-to-face-off-in-cleveland-warren-tribune-chronicle/ The Cleveland Browns celebrate after running back Nick Chubb (24) scored a touchdown against the New York Jets during the second half of an NFL football game, Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022, in Cleveland. (AP Photo/Ron Schwane) CLEVELAND — For the first time since 2004, Ben Roethlisberger isn’t part of the Steelers-Browns rivalry, a matchup the Ohio-born-and-bred quarterback dominated for 18 seasons and will now watch with everyone else. On Thursday night, Mitch Trubisky makes his debut in one of the NFL’s fiercest feuds. A second appearance isn’t guaranteed. Struggling to connect with Pittsburgh’s receivers, Trubisky, chosen as the starter in training camp over rookie quarterback-in-waiting Kenny Pickens, may look to take some deep shots downfield when the Steelers (1-1) visit a Browns team still reeling from an epic collapse in their home opener on Sunday. Trubisky is ranked 32nd in yards per attempt, one of several troubling stats for him after just two games and perhaps a reflection on the 28-year-old being more of a game manager than game changer. Still, Trubisky, who grew up in Northeast Ohio but was never particularly keen on the Browns (1-1), is confident he’ll soon begin hooking up with Pittsburgh’s talented, but to this point underused, receivers. “I’ve just got to get these playmakers the football,” he said. “Whatever we’re out there running, I’ve just got to get them the ball. It really comes down to me making better decisions, being aggressive and putting ourselves in that position.” On the flip side, the Browns have been out of position. Of the many unforgivable sins — clock mismanagement, a missed PAT, not recovering an onside kick among them — committed by Cleveland in the final 1:55 of its 31-30 loss to the New York Jets, letting wide receiver Corey Davis run uncovered to catch a 66-yard TD pass with 1:22 left, was at the top of the what-not-to-do list. Either Pro Bowl cornerback Denzel Ward or safety Grant Delpit blew their assignment, but neither was willing to put their name on a play that can’t happen. Making matters worse, the Browns did the same exact thing a week earlier at Carolina, giving up a couple of long passes, including a 75-yard TD to aid the Panthers’ fourth-quarter rally. “I’m not going to get into the responsibilities and those type of things because I just don’t see that as productive,” Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said this week when pressed about the gaffes. “The bottom line is that should never happen. We have to be able to defend the pass in those obvious passing situations.” The Browns insist they’ll clean things up, but until they do, teams will look to exploit an obvious weakness. It’s Trubisky’s turn to try. END GAME The Browns’ pass rush won’t be as potent with defensive end Jadveon Clowney out after spraining his ankle in the second half against New York. There’s no timetable on the edge rusher’s return. Clowney’s absence made things even tougher on All-Pro Myles Garrett, who was consistently double-teamed by the Jets in the game’s late stages. Garrett, who is one sack from becoming Cleveland’s career leader, missed practice Tuesday with a neck issue but will play. The Steelers are very familiar with Garrett’s ability to ruin a play and need to keep him off Trubisky. The Browns activated end Isaac Rochell from the practice squad for added depth and rookies Alex Wright, Isaiah Thomas and Perrion Winfrey (out due to discipline last week) could get more playing time. HI, GEORGE? The Steelers selected 6-foot-3 wide receiver George Pickens in the second round to essentially replace JuJu Smith-Schuster, who left in free agency. Pickens looked every bit the downfield playmaker Pittsburgh needs during the preseason. Through two games, however, he’s been an afterthought with two catches for 23 yards. Pickens is trying to stay patient. It’s a long season and while he thinks there’s a chance to get going against a Cleveland secondary that gave up four touchdown passes to Joe Flacco on Sunday, he’s not getting ahead of himself. “I’m thinking it’s like a new video game, you know? I’m like, ‘Ooh, yeah, (going deep) is going to work,” Pickens said. ” But (the veterans here) played (the Browns) before, you know … their guys are savvy. They’re going to try to mess (us) up.” JACK WELCOMED BACK Cleveland’s offensive line is finally at full strength with two-time All-Pro Jack Conklin expected to play for the first time since undergoing season-ending knee surgery in December. Conklin’s return makes the Browns’ potent ground game (401 yards in two games) more dangerous. Although he was close to playing in the first two games, the Browns chose to make him inactive. Now he’ll have extra time with the next game not until Oct. 2. FRIEND NOW FOE Steelers defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi spent the first four years of his career in Cleveland from 2017-20, memorably shoving Pittsburgh quarterback (now teammate) Mason Rudolph in the back during a melee late in a bruising Thursday night victory over the Steelers in 2019. “Yeah, I don’t expect anything like that to happen,” Ogunjobi said with a wry smile. “I am just excited for the next opportunity and next challenge.” Ogunjobi signed a one-year deal with the Steelers after a pact with the Chicago Bears was voided because of a foot injury he suffered in the playoffs last winter playing for Cincinnati. The 28-year-old is part of Pittsburgh’s plan to fortify a run defense that finished last in the league in 2021, though the Steelers were successful against the Browns, holding them under 100 yards in each of the two meetings on their way to sweeping the season series. There has been modest improvement so far, though New England was able to burn the final 6:33 of the fourth quarter on Sunday to seal a victory while working almost exclusively on the ground. UAE Is Planning Big In Metaverse Space, Says The Sandbox – ZAWYA https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/uae-is-planning-big-in-metaverse-space-says-the-sandbox-zawya/ The Sandbox — a decentralised community-driven gaming ecosystem where creators can share and monetise voxel assets and gaming experiences on the Ethereum blockchain — is extremely bullish about the UAE goverment’s robust plans to adopt Web3.0 technology. Bertrand Levy, senior vice-president global partnerships, The Sandbox, attended Khaleej Times’ one-day event Metavision on Wednesday. “We are a global brand with around 350 offices and have seen that luxury brands were among first to make their presence in metaverse. The key to success in Web3.0 is all about what experiences are you trying to create. The Web3.0 will open opportunities for creators and creativity,” said Levy. Animoca’s brand, The Sandbox’s ‘Dubaiverse’ will be launched through local partners that include a UAE media group. Animoca Brand’s Dubai-themed metaverse will mirror the Sandbox’s Hong Kong ‘Mega City,’ a gaming metaverse and virtual cultural hub based on the Asian financial hub of Hong Kong. The Dubaiverse will reportedly be built through local partnerships, including firms in the film, music, entertainment, acting, finance, real estate, and gaming industries. “Currently we are busy developing Dubaiverse and in close interaction with other stake holders,” said Levy. The Dubai Metaverse Strategy aims to turn Dubai into one the world’s top 10 metaverse economies as well as a global hub for the metaverse community. The metaverse achieved 200 strategic partnerships with Sandbox, which includes the launch of the Warner Music Group as a music-themed virtual world in the metaverse. Analysts estimate that the metaverse will contribute up to $5 trillion to the global economy by 2030. The market value of NFTs is expected to reach $80 billion, while consumer spending on in-game purchases is reckoned to reach $75 billion by 2025. Copyright © 2022 Khaleej Times. All Rights Reserved. We Bought A Sausage Egg Roll Maker Because Of Social Media, But Was It Worth It? – SoraNews24 https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/we-bought-a-sausage-egg-roll-maker-because-of-social-media-but-was-it-worth-it-soranews24/ It only requires two ingredients, so it can’t be hard to mess up, right? When the SoraNews24 team sees a cool recipe or gadget on social media, you know we’re up for trying it out ourselves. One video we recently came across showed a device that could make sausage egg rolls–essentially a whole sausage surrounded by cooked egg–and our Japanese-language reporter Masanuki Sunakoma had to try it out. The Automatic Mini Egg Roll Maker cost him 2,816 yen (US$19.65) including shipping fees and was delivered to him in a worryingly battered-looking box. But when he opened it up, a shiny and new Automatic Mini Egg Roll Maker was waiting for him. It also included a cleaning brush, some skewers, and an instruction manual. He started his egg roll maker journey by scrubbing the inside with the included cleaning brush, as one does when they get a new kitchen gadget. Then, he prepared his super simple ingredients: eggs and sausages.  He didn’t see a picture of a sausage egg roll on the product’s page, but he felt the insuppressible urge to replicate the recipe he saw on social media. To turn it on, he simply plugged it in. He then coated the inside of the egg roll maker with cooking oil, stuck a sausage on a skewer, and inserted it into the maker. Next, he cracked open an egg and slide both the white and yolk in with the sausage. He affixed the included lid… …and waited. That’s it! Automatic machines sure are handy, Masanuki thought. If the sausage egg rolls are this easy to make, he might even be able to start a business selling these on the street. That is, except for one issue. Where Masanuki expected it to be done in about two or three minutes–indicated by the egg roll rising up out of the cooker–it took much longer. Even after 10 minutes of waiting, there was still no sign of egg or sausage. Maybe it wasn’t automatic after all, Masanuki wondered. After a total of 30 minutes, it appeared! It rose higher and higher… …rising out of the depths as if it were Excalibur being pulled from its stone… …and it was done (after 30 long minutes)! Unfortunately, the sausage broke halfway through. Maybe Masanuki didn’t stick the skewer in far enough. Oh well! He slathered some ketchup on it and enjoyed his tasty snack. He was a bit disappointed that the sausage broke, but after testing it two more times, he found the same thing happened. We guess it’s just inherent of the product. The good news is that it only took 15 minutes for the second one to cook, though. In conclusion, Masanuki would probably not recommend this product. It’s cool if you’re willing to wait a whole 30 minutes for it to be done, but you might end up with a broken snack every time. You’d be better off making it by hand or using a Senbero Maker for an easy dinner.
