What The Zuck A Web3 Metaverse Roadmap Forbes
What The Zuck – A Web3 Metaverse Roadmap – Forbes https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/what-the-zuck-a-web3-metaverse-roadmap-forbes/ getty I was fascinated with the concept of the Metaverse when I first read Neal Stephenson’s Snow Crash in the 90’s. At the time, I was the CEO of The Imagination Network, the top online social games company, with a remarkable team that, inspired by the book, built one of the first 3D virtual worlds—a Metaverse called CyberPark. CyberPark had most of the components that are emerging in the market now—fun filled environments with avatars, currency, and merchandise. In my latest Web3/Meta keynote, I have a slide comparing what we built—decades ago—and what companies, like Facebook, Roblox and many others, are prototyping now. Whether at a public conference or a large internal corporate event, the audience looks at the then and now slide and says: “ I can’t see much of a difference…visually.” Even the industry leaders who can tell the difference will admit that the march to building mass-market 3D virtual Worlds has been long and slow, and still consists of lucrative niche markets. That is all about to change, as we experience a perfect storm of enabling technologies and platforms adopted and powered-by by the next-generation of people and Web3 organizations. It will take longer than most forecast, not look like the promo-reels, and go through multiple phases of development over the next 10 years. As organizations, big and small, begin to place their bets, knowing when to invest is as important as where. What I’m asked most often is: what should my company do now. Let’s call it the NOWverse to do list. What the Zuck is the Metaverse People get excited about new technologies that are often over-hyped in advance, but not ready for mass-market consumption. Meta + Verse (from Universe) = Metaverse, is just the next one. If you Google it, hundreds of definitions pop up, that most find confusing or dictate an unachievable perfect-world. There are lots of misconceptions about what you need to experience it properly, like VR/AR headsets, or massive screens, etc. You don’t—it should be device agnostic. As an insider, I like Matthew Ball’s definition, because he digs into the critical components required for Web3 + Metaverse: “A massively scaled and interoperable network of real-time rendered 3D virtual worlds that can be experienced synchronously and persistently by an effectively unlimited number of users with an individual sense of presence, and with continuity of data, such as identity, history, entitlements, objects, communications, and payments.” Too long? Try this: It is the Internet’s next evolution towards immersiveness. Who is Web3? You are. To understand the Metaverse’s enabling fundamentals, lets look at how the Internet may evolve. Web 1.0, the first iteration of the internet that continues to be the foundation of what we use today. It was mostly read-only static content and with old media business models. At launch, it was coined as The Information Super Highway. What I said back then about the first iteration of the Internet can also be used to describe Web3 – Metaverse: ‘The future vision of what technology could feasibly provide, which will continue to change in size, scope and promise, as more viable capabilities emerge that are grounded in human demand and desire.’ Web 2.0 consolidated power with centralized landlords and business models that are monetizing the masses with more social sharing, creation, and enablement platforms. Web 3.0 promises to take us to a democratized, creator/owner phase of the internet, where the power shifts from the big tech oligopolies to individuals. Rather than using platforms in exchange for data, users should have full power, governance, and control over assets, where they can be participants, owners, and shareholders—with peer-to-peer transactions. Dean DeBiase – Reboot Partners The capabilities and timing of a Web3 world are as uncertain as the original wild-west land rush, with thousands of companies developing enabling pieces of a multi-layer ecosystem. From the big tech Web2 players, like Google and Apple, who don’t want to lose control in a Web3 transition, to innovatators like coto by Eve and dentity, the enabling platform market is moving rapidly. PLANNING: The 6 P’s When leaders ask me, should we hire a Chief Metaverse Officer, I usually say no. But, depending on the industry and company, most will be better served by making it core to the Chief Marketing or Digital Officer capabilities—and then hire and invest accordingly. Before jumping on the Metaverse wagon, organizations from McDonald’s and Starbucks to CVS and Unilever are taking a step back and planning out what is best to do now, while brands like Nike—who will soon have produced over $200 mil in revenue from the category—are claiming it as a more significant part of their future business model optimization. To help organizations prepare, let’s look at the NOWverse 6P’s that may help plan and invest into a more robust Web3 digital strategy and a Metaverse evolution. First, Prepare and develop longtail, situational plans for next-gen platforms and partnerships, and understand the array of different business models. You should also consider Protecting your assets, data, and information. The Metaverse creates new scenarios to anticipate and mitigate risks around; and not just secure, but proactively expand your patents, trademarks, IPs, services, products, and ventures. Organizations can Produce IDTs, what I call (Iconic Digital Twins) or NTF’s for existing and future products and services, while working towards enhancing your brand’s Positioning, by providing OBEs – (on-brand experiences) for in-person, online, and virtual environments. Don’t use a one-size-fits-all approach; align with your brand’s promise, and keep the experience relevant, realistic, and reliable. When looking at go-to-market, you must Promote and sync purposeful branding experiences to meta-phases, get Personal, and leverage technologies. Dean DeBiase – Reboot Partners PERSONALIZATION: The 5 E’s With all of the Web2 solutions available, it is table-stakes to provide customers with personalization Wether online or IRL, consider the 5Es to get started. Companies have been deploying some of these in both old and new media—but now it must be at the core of any digital transformation strategy. Traditional and new media advertising (and ecommerce) business models need a reboot. Besides selling something, there are smarter opportunities to connect with Web2 and Web3 consumers.. You can Entertain and Educate, by providing them with simple, fun gamification to watch, play, and experiment with—while delivering on-point, useful content. Help to build brand credibility and loyalty when providing Engaging brand experiences and conversions that get customers involved and Excite them by delivering helpful, actionable assets unique to your brand. Lastly, e-comm. To get consumers to buy, it helps to get personal and provide meaningful experiences at each stage of their journey, which often makes the transaction, and follow-on loyalty development easier. Dean DeBiase – Reboot Partners Making Web3-3D Moves in a Web2-2D World Smart organizations are seperating the hype from the roadmap, and planning around the fact that the mass-market will be living in a Web2-2D world for a while longer. As a user and teacher of technology transformation and trends, at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, I like how Gartner breaks out the evolution with a ten year roadmap—however there will be other forecasts. Additionally, Revieve published a Metaverse Playbook, with details of what companies can consider doing now and next—you can get it here. Gartner As organizations navigate toward Web3—while operating in a Web2 world—and testing platforms and technologies that are part of consumer journies into the Metaverse, they will learn to meet the mass, and more often niche, audiences where they are along the way.

(Kitco News) – The wider crypto market traded mixed on Wednesday after the Federal Reserve announced a 75 bps hike in interest rates, aligning with consensus estimates and putting concerns about the ramifications of a full percentage point increase to rest. Overall, it appears that the rate hike announcement was largely priced in, with traders maintaining their current positions after the afternoon failed to produce any unexpected developments. Data from TradingView shows that while volatility spiked around the time that Fed Chair Powell was giving his speech, whipsawing the price of Bitcoin (BTC) from a high of $19,840 to a low of $18,700, after the dust settled BTC was trading slightly in the green above the $19,000 support level. BTC/USD 4-hour chart. Source: TradingView BTCs post-FOMC performance was a welcomed sight for many in the crypto ecosystem following Monday’s dismal performance which saw its price hit a three-month low. Bulls still have work to do; however, as bears still remain in control of the price action according to Kitco senior technical analyst Jim Wyckoff. “The bears have the overall near-term technical advantage amid a price downtrend in place on the daily chart. The path of least resistance for prices is presently sideways to lower,” Wyckoff said in his morning Bitcoin update. Watch out for a bull trap Not all traders in the market were quick to jump on the BTC price rally following the interest rate hike announcement including market analyst and pseudonymous Twitter user il Capo of Crypto, who posted the following tweet warning that the market could pump and then dump as a result of Powell’s remarks. Good morning. Expecting a scam pump pre FOMC and downtrend continuation afterwards. How high could it go? First target would be 20300-20600. If it breaks that level, we could see 22800-23000. Remember that every bounce is a short opportunity. — il Capo Of Crypto (@CryptoCapo_) September 21, 2022 In a follow-up tweet, Capo posted the following chart outlining a more bearish path forwards for Bitcoin which could see it drop into the $14,000 – $16,000 range before finding its footing and once again climbing higher. U.S. Embassy In Cuba To Process Full Immigrant Visas In Early 2023 – PBS NewsHour https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/u-s-embassy-in-cuba-to-process-full-immigrant-visas-in-early-2023-pbs-newshour/ WASHINGTON (AP) — The Biden administration said Wednesday that the U.S. Embassy in Cuba will begin processing full immigrant visas in early 2023, making it easier for Cubans to reunite with family members in the United States. The embassy in Havana had last processed full immigrant visas in 2017. The U.S. government will also stop requiring Cubans seeking visas in family preference categories to travel to Georgetown, Guyana, for their interviews. Additional government personnel will staff the embassy to handle the visa requests. The added personnel are part of the commitment stemming from the resumption of the Cuban Family Reunification Parole program last month. The 2007 program enables U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents to apply for their family members in Cuba to come to the U.S. sooner than conventionally allowed. WATCH: How Cuban Americans see U.S. role in Cuba’s struggle for democracy Under accords with Cuba, the U.S. has committed to ensuring the legal migration of at least 20,000 Cubans annually, not including immediate relatives of U.S. citizens. Attempted border crossings by Cubans has increased sharply over the past year, according to data issued Monday by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. U.S. officials stopped Cubans who were trying to enter the U.S. 19,057 times in August, a more than four-fold increase from August 2021. Border crossings have been fueled partly by repeat crossers because there are no legal consequences for getting expelled under a pandemic-era rule known as Title 42. That rule denies a right to seek asylum.

Want To Check In To Your Hotel Early? Good Luck. The Washington Post
Want To Check In To Your Hotel Early? Good Luck. The Washington Post
Want To Check In To Your Hotel Early? Good Luck. – The Washington Post https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/want-to-check-in-to-your-hotel-early-good-luck-the-washington-post/ It’s a travel math problem that doesn’t always work out: Your flight lands early in the morning, but the hotel check-in time isn’t until 3 or 4 p.m. Sure, you can veg out in the lobby or leave your bags with the bell desk and explore. But if what you really want to do is shower and nap, you’ll have to pray to the early check-in gods or, in some cases, pay an extra fee for those additional hours. And don’t forget that check-out is typically at 11 a.m., in case you had plans on your final day. Staying for just one day? Enjoy your 20 hours at the hotel. The often-inconvenient times — which one operator called “an ancient hotel convention” — are set by hotels to make sure guests vacate their rooms with enough time to prepare them for the next round. “It’s a function of housekeeping,” said Gary Vallen, a hospitality consultant and co-author of the textbook “Check-In Check-Out: Managing Hotel Operations.” “Getting a room checked out, going and stripping that room, cleaning the room, getting it brought back online, having an inspector from the housekeeping department check it … takes you a little while.” For the average traveler, there are some ways to solve the issue of needing a hotel room before or after one is supposed to be available. It never hurts to ask if early check-in or late check-out is available for free. Some hotels might offer those benefits for a fee; hotel chain citizenM, for example, says check-in is guaranteed at 2 p.m. but available earlier for an extra charge at certain properties in Paris, Amsterdam and Taipei. Sites that allow people to rent mere hours at a hotel — such as HotelsByDay or Dayuse.com — can also make up the gap. The Dayuse site also includes options for hotel bookings with an early arrival or late departure. “If you look at urban business hotels now, a lot of them are trying to maximize revenue for rooms, so you have day-use rooms,” said Nicolas Graf, associate dean of the Tisch Center of Hospitality at New York University. Hotels will typically also let guests leave their bags in a secure location and use a pool, gym or spa while they wait for a room. That’s a perk few vacation rentals can offer even as they set their own strict times for checking in or out. “A well-run hotel is going to try to get you into your room as quickly as possible,” Vallen said. Some of these hotels need to offer morning check-in Some travelers have wild travel schedules in which they need to lay their heads before 3 o’clock. — Derrick E Jones (@deuceohsixx) September 15, 2022 For frequent travelers with elite status at hotel chains, checking in or out is likely to be a much more flexible endeavor. “It’s difficult to have a flexible policy for everybody, but it’s appropriate to have a flexible policy for the select customer,” said Vallen, professor emeritus at Northern Arizona University’s School of Hotel and Restaurant Management. “You want to cultivate them and you want to cater to them as much as you possibly can.” Ten years ago, Starwood Hotels and Resorts — which Marriott bought in 2016 — announced new benefits including 24-hour check-in for its “most prolific travelers.” “Turning an ancient hotel convention on its head, Starwood is for the first time ever abolishing the industry’s long-standing 3:00 p.m. check-in time and giving its most frequent travelers control of their own arrival and departure time,” the company said. The “Your24” benefit let loyalty members who stayed at the company’s hotels for 75 or more nights every year choose their check-in time and check out at the same time on their departure day. Marriott kept the benefit, but travelers must stay at its hotels 100 nights a year and spend $20,000 annually to qualify. Some smaller hotel chains, typically boutique or luxury properties, also offer more flexibility. Standard Hotels, with eight locations around the world, offers a “Standard Time” rate — which includes an additional fee — when rooms are available so guests can name their check-in and check-out times. “We started Standard Time to cater to the ever-changing needs and schedules of our guests,” Standard International CEO Amber Asher said in an email to The Washington Post. “As a growing international brand, we want to take care of the business traveler flying in on the red eye who needs to freshen up before a meeting and the late night Boom Boom reveler who really needs to sleep in. Like everything that we do at The Standard, we challenge ourselves to think outside of hotel norms.” The Peninsula Hotels, a Hong Kong-based luxury brand with 10 global properties, launched “Peninsula Time” across all its hotels in January 2021 after the feature started at its Beverly Hills location. Guests can choose a “fully flexible” arrival and departure time at no extra charge, though blackout dates apply. “Guests inform the property ahead of time their approximate check-in and check-out time to ensure that their room or suite is available for their every need,” Gareth Roberts, group director of brand and operations support for the hotel company’s owners and operator, the Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, said in an emailed statement. “By letting guests arrive earlier and stay longer, we hope to provide them with greater peace of mind — and an even more personalized experience.” Me: Hi, would I be able to do an early check-in for X day? Hotel: You have to check day of **calls day of** Me: I’d like to do early check in for 1pm Hotel: Yes, there’s availability! It’ll be $25. Me: $25?? NVM!! Never heard of a fee for early check on (esp by 2 hours) — Lauren DG (@LaurenDG_1) September 16, 2022 Graf said he doesn’t believe hotels have historically had the right technology to make “more informed decisions” about room availability. But he said that in light of the pandemic and labor shortages, more operators are investing in scheduling systems that use better data. “You have more productive processes that I think will potentially help solve part of the issue and potentially help people like you and me who want an early check-in,” Graf said.

Fed Attacks Inflation With Another Big Hike And Expects More – Madison.com https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/fed-attacks-inflation-with-another-big-hike-and-expects-more-madison-com/ By CHRISTOPHER RUGABER – AP Economics Writer WASHINGTON (AP) — Intensifying its fight against high inflation, the Federal Reserve raised its key interest rate Wednesday by a substantial three-quarters of a point for a third straight time and signaled more large rate hikes to come — an aggressive pace that will heighten the risk of an eventual recession. The Fed’s move boosted its benchmark short-term rate, which affects many consumer and business loans, to a range of 3% to 3.25%, the highest level since early 2008. The officials also forecast that they will further raise their benchmark rate to roughly 4.4% by year’s end, a full percentage point higher than they had forecast as recently as June. And they expect to raise the rate further next year, to about 4.6%. That would be the highest level since 2007. The central bank’s action Wednesday followed a government report last week that showed high costs spreading more broadly through the economy. By raising borrowing rates, the Fed makes it costlier to take out a mortgage or an auto or business loan. Consumers and businesses then presumably borrow and spend less, cooling the economy and slowing inflation. Speaking at a news conference, Chair Jerome Powell said that before Fed officials would consider halting their rate hikes, they would “want to be very confident that inflation is moving back down” to their 2% inflation target. He noted that the strength of the job market is fueling wage gains that are helping drive up inflation. Fed officials have said they are seeking a “soft landing,” by which they would manage to slow growth enough to tame inflation but not so much as to trigger a recession. Yet most economists say they think the Fed’s steep rate hikes will lead, over time, to job cuts, rising unemployment and a full-blown recession late this year or early next year. “No one knows whether this process will lead to a recession, or if so, how significant that recession would be,” Powell said at his news conference. “That’s going to depend on how quickly we bring down inflation.” In their updated economic forecasts, the Fed’s policymakers project that economic growth will remain weak for the next few years, with rising unemployment. It expects the jobless rate to reach 4.4% by the end of 2023, up from its current level of 3.7%. Historically, economists say, any time the unemployment rate has risen by a half-point over several months, a recession has always followed. Fed officials now see the economy expanding just 0.2% this year, sharply lower than its forecast of 1.7% growth just three months ago. And it expects sluggish growth below 2% from 2023 through 2025. And even with the steep rate hikes the Fed foresees, it still expects core inflation — which excludes the volatile food and gas categories — to be 3.1% at the end of next year, well above its 2% target. Powell acknowledged in a speech last month that the Fed’s moves will “bring some pain” to households and businesses. And he added that the central bank’s commitment to bringing inflation back down to its 2% target was “unconditional.” Falling gas prices have slightly lowered headline inflation, which was a still-painful 8.3% in August compared with a year earlier. Declining gas prices might have contributed to a recent rise in President Joe Biden’s public approval ratings, which Democrats hope will boost their prospects in the November midterm elections. Short-term rates at a level the Fed is now envisioning would make a recession likelier next year by sharply raising the costs of mortgages, car loans and business loans. The economy hasn’t seen rates as high as the Fed is projecting since before the 2008 financial crisis. Last week, the average fixed mortgage rate topped 6%, its highest point in 14 years. Credit card borrowing costs have reached their highest level since 1996, according to Bankrate.com. Inflation now appears increasingly fueled by higher wages and by consumers’ steady desire to spend and less by the supply shortages that had bedeviled the economy during the pandemic recession. On Sunday, though, Biden said on CBS’ “60 Minutes” that he believed a soft landing for the economy was still possible, suggesting that his administration’s recent energy and health care legislation would lower prices for pharmaceuticals and health care. Some economists are beginning to express concern that the Fed’s rapid rate hikes — the fastest since the early 1980s — will cause more economic damage than necessary to tame inflation. Mike Konczal, an economist at the Roosevelt Institute, noted that the economy is already slowing and that wage increases — a key driver of inflation — are levelling off and by some measures even declining a bit. Surveys also show that Americans are expecting inflation to ease significantly over the next five years. That is an important trend because inflation expectations can become self-fulfilling: If people expect inflation to ease, some will feel less pressure to accelerate their purchases. Less spending would then help moderate price increases. Konczal said there is a case to be made for the Fed to slow its rate hikes over the next two meetings. “Given the cooling that’s coming,” he said, “you don’t want to rush into this.” The Fed’s rapid rate hikes mirror steps that other major central banks are taking, contributing to concerns about a potential global recession. The European Central Bank last week raised its benchmark rate by three-quarters of a percentage point. The Bank of England, the Reserve Bank of Australia and the Bank of Canada have all carried out hefty rate increases in recent weeks. And in China, the world’s second-largest economy, growth is already suffering from the government’s repeated COVID lockdowns. If recession sweeps through most large economies, that could derail the U.S. economy, too. Even at the Fed’s accelerated pace of rate hikes, some economists — and some Fed officials — argue that they have yet to raise rates to a level that would actually restrict borrowing and spending and slow growth. Many economists sound convinced that widespread layoffs will be necessary to slow rising prices. Research published earlier this month under the auspices of the Brookings Institution concluded that unemployment might have to go as high as 7.5% to get inflation back to the Fed’s 2% target. 5 Wellness Tips To Improve Your Health As A Freelancer – MUO – MakeUseOf https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/5-wellness-tips-to-improve-your-health-as-a-freelancer-muo-makeuseof/ Freelancing, albeit flexible and potentially lucrative, can be a menace to your overall well-being. For most of your career as a freelancer, you may be susceptible to a sedentary lifestyle that increases your risk of postural issues and eating disorders. A decline in your health could affect your output and ultimately cost you your job. Hence, it is important to take proactive steps in managing your health. Here are some valuable tips for improving and maintaining your health as a freelancer. How Freelancing Could Lead to Poor Health Freelancing can be just as demanding as a regular full-time job, if not more so. While it gives you work autonomy, having to meet the demands of several clients effectively can make you neglect other aspects of your life. You may find yourself sitting at a spot for hours, having long screen time, skipping meals, distancing yourself from family and friends, and voluntarily opting out of social activities. Repeatedly doing all these things may result in several unhealthy habits. And in turn, these habits could affect your vision, social life, posture, sleep, and eating patterns. Tips for Improving Your Health as a Freelancer The good part is that these bad habits are avoidable. You can manage your well-being without jeopardizing your freelance career. Here are a few tips to make that feasible. 1. Protect Your Vision Digital screens, including laptops, smartphones, and TVs, emit blue light that at especially high intensities over long periods may be harmful to your eyes. Sadly, a majority of your job as a freelancer requires being on a screen—from sourcing for clients, closing a deal, and executing a task. This keeps you at risk of phone or computer eye strain (which you can relieve), as well as blurry vision and constant headaches. One way to care for your eyes is by using blue light glasses. These types of eyewear aim to limit the blue light waves that come from your work devices. Alternatively, you can set your laptop or phone screen to “eye care” settings or night mode to provide relief from the side effects of extended usage. For lasting solutions, consider scheduling and limiting your screen time. Apps like Freedom and Space can be incredibly useful in this regard. Using blue light glasses and setting your laptop or phone on night mode will only go so far. The best way to care for your eyes is to minimize screen time and take intermittent breaks away from your workstation to look outside and get some air. 2. Monitor Your Diet One of the downsides of freelancing is having tight schedules that give you little or no time to make healthy dietary choices. The deadlines and work pressure make it easy to resort to poorly prepared, processed meals. Worse still, you might skip breakfast or eat late into the night. These eating habits adversely affect your overall well-being. To avoid such scenarios, adequately plan your schedule to give you ample time to cook your meals ahead of time. Meal planning apps such as MyNetDiary, MyPlate Calorie Counter, Noom, and Yummly can be invaluable. If you have the budget, you can also contact a chef to home-cook your meals or order take-outs from trusted brands with healthy menus. And don’t forget about staying hydrated with apps like WaterMinder! 3. Maintain a Physical Fitness Routine The easiest way to manage the sedentary lifestyle that comes with freelancing is to engage in physical fitness activities before or after your work time. These activities are health boosters that greatly improve your well-being. They also help you complete your work routine with optimal endurance and strength to help you avoid burnout. You can engage in stay-at-home fitness activities that don’t require going to a gym. Some popular exercises are chair squats, skipping, desk push-ups, desk planks, 10-minute walks, floor push-ups, and squat jumps. Most importantly, consistency is key to getting maximum results from these activities. As much as you want to exercise only at your convenience, know that it is necessary for healthy living. Infuse a variety of exercises into your daily routine to help you stay consistent both on the days when you feel like it and the days when you don’t. While you’re at it, you can get a smartwatch or simply an app to help you track your fitness journey. You can also download reminders to notify you when to stop sitting and move around—such as StandUp, Wakeout, and StretchMinder. 4. Maintain Proper Posture A good posture is when the body is in a symmetric alignment. However, having a good posture is often far-fetched for most freelancers. Your neck, arms, shoulders, waist, and back can become stiff due to prolonged working hours, poor sitting arrangement, and lack of movement. It starts with a pop when you stretch certain body parts, then transcends to pain and even numbness on severe occasions. To improve your posture: Invest in an ergonomic office chair to help prevent slouching and support your spinal alignment and lumbar area. Buy a sturdy desk. Adjust the chair to a height that’s in line with the desk, and make it comfortable for you. These essentials specifically work to minimize back pain. Furthermore, engage in exercises that strengthen your muscles, such as cycling, lifting weights, dancing, push-ups, and climbing stairs (if your apartment has them). Most importantly, you should work on increasing your mobility. You can also download posture monitoring and improvement apps like Posture Pal, Posture Reminder, and Perfect Posture and Healthy Back to aid postural correction. 5. Prioritize Healthy Sleeping Habits Shutterstock“” data-img-url=”https://static1.makeuseofimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/best-sleep-tech.jpg” data-modal-container-id=”single-image-modal-container” data-modal-id=”single-image-modal” Image Credit: Damir Khabirov/Shutterstock Sleep is a naturally recurring event where the body and mind are at rest. It is also a great way to recharge and refresh for increased productivity. Because fatigue, exhaustion, and brain drain are common occurrences in freelancing, it is important to develop a feasible bedtime routine to maintain a healthy lifestyle. An adult requires between seven and nine hours of quality sleep on average, according to the US Centers for Disease Control. But quality sleep goes beyond the duration; you need to feel well-rested when you wake up. To that effect, endeavor to brush, bathe, and do a little exercise each day before drawing your curtains. Moreover, according to the American Heart Association, a sleep-deprived adult may be at higher risk of depression, anxiety, stroke, and diabetes. So, give yourself the rest you need by scanning your schedule and blocking out hours for rest. Do you have more responsibilities in the morning, afternoon, or night? Whatever the case, intentionally organize your priorities, ensuring you get enough hours of sleep. Furthermore, avoid caffeine and stimulants, as they can make it difficult to fall asleep at a reasonable time. If you are experiencing insomnia symptoms, visit an authorized healthcare center for proper care and medication. You can also use sleep apps like Sleep++, Sleep Monitor, Sleep Bot, and Sleep Cycle to monitor your sleep. A Healthy Lifestyle Helps You Stay on Top of Your Freelancing Career The freelancing lifestyle can be draining and bad for your health. However, knowing what to look out for and applying the tips in this article can help you stay healthy and productive in the long run.

Suspended Sarver Says He’s Decided To Sell Suns, Mercury – U.S. News & World Report https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/suspended-sarver-says-hes-decided-to-sell-suns-mercury-u-s-news-world-report/ FILE- Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver watches his team play against the Memphis Grizzlies during the second half of an NBA basketball game on Dec. 11, 2019 in Phoenix. PayPal said Friday, Sept. 16, 2022, that the company will no longer sponsor the Phoenix Suns if owner Robert Sarver remains part of the franchise when his suspension ends. Sarver was suspended this week, plus fined $10 million, after an investigation showed a pattern of lewd, misogynistic, and racist speech and conduct during his 18 years as owner of the Suns. (AP Photo/Ross D. Franklin) The Associated Press By TIM REYNOLDS, AP Basketball Writer Robert Sarver says he has started the process of selling the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury, a move that comes only eight days after he was suspended by the NBA over workplace misconduct including racist speech and hostile behavior toward employees. Sarver made the announcement Wednesday, saying selling “is the best course of action,” although he initially hoped that he would be able to keep control of the franchises — pointing to his record that, he claims, paints a dramatically different picture of who he is and what he stands for. “But in our current unforgiving climate, it has become painfully clear that that is no longer possible — that whatever good I have done, or could still do, is outweighed by things I have said in the past,” Sarver wrote in a statement. “For those reasons, I am beginning the process of seeking buyers for the Suns and Mercury.” Sarver bought the teams in July 2004 for about $400 million. He is not the lone owner, but the primary one. Political Cartoons Assuming no other team is sold in the interim, it would be the first sale in the NBA since a group led by Qualtrics co-founder Ryan Smith bought the Utah Jazz in 2021 for about $1.7 billion. It’s not known if Sarver has established an asking price. Forbes recently estimated the value of the Suns at $1.8 billion. An independent report that was commissioned by the NBA last November and took about 10 months to complete found that Sarver “repeated or purported to repeat the N-word on at least five occasions spanning his tenure with the Suns,” though added that the investigation “makes no finding that Sarver used this racially insensitive language with the intent to demean or denigrate.” The study also concluded that Sarver used demeaning language toward female employees, including telling a pregnant employee that she would not be able to do her job after becoming a mother; made off-color comments and jokes about sex and anatomy; and yelled and cursed at employees in ways that would be considered bullying “under workplace standards.” Once that report was completed, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver suspended Sarver for one year and fined him $10 million — the maximum allowed by league rule. “Words that I deeply regret now overshadow nearly two decades of building organizations that brought people together — and strengthened the Phoenix area — through the unifying power of professional men’s and women’s basketball,” Sarver wrote. “As a man of faith, I believe in atonement and the path to forgiveness. I expected that the commissioner’s one-year suspension would provide the time for me to focus, make amends and remove my personal controversy from the teams that I and so many fans love.” Barely a week later, Sarver evidently realized that would not be possible. His decision comes after a chorus of voices — from players like Suns guard Chris Paul and Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, to longtime team sponsors like PayPal, and even the National Basketball Players Association — said the one-year suspension wasn’t enough. Suns vice chairman Jahm Najafi called last week for Sarver to resign, saying there should be “zero tolerance” for lewd, misogynistic and racist conduct in any workplace. Najafi, in that same statement, also said he did not have designs on becoming the team’s primary owner. “I do not want to be a distraction to these two teams and the fine people who work so hard to bring the joy and excitement of basketball to fans around the world,” Sarver wrote. “I want what’s best for these two organizations, the players, the employees, the fans, the community, my fellow owners, the NBA and the WNBA. This is the best course of action for everyone.” Sarver, through his attorney, argued to the NBA during the investigative process that his record as an owner shows a “longstanding commitment to social and racial justice” and that it shows he’s had a “commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.” Among the examples Sarver cited was what he described as a league-best rate of 55% employment of minorities within the Suns’ front office and how more than half of the team’s coaches and general managers in his tenure — including current coach Monty Williams and current GM James Jones — are Black. ___ More AP NBA coverage: https://apnews.com/hub/NBA and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports Copyright 2022 The Associated Press. Alibaba Launches Luxury Shopping Experience In Metaverse – WWD https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/alibaba-launches-luxury-shopping-experience-in-metaverse-wwd/ Alibaba Group said it is “multiplying the ways that luxury brands can connect with China’s affluent shoppers in the metaverse” via the release of a series of digital upgrades as well as an augmented reality fashion show on Thursday.  The launch is part of the fifth anniversary of the company’s Tmall Luxury Pavilion, which Alibaba describes as “the largest online destination in China to host over 200 luxury brands from the five major luxury groups.”  Janet Wang, head of Alibaba’s luxury division, acknowledged that the pandemic was challenging for retailers but said online consumption by the Chinese luxury consumer has been resilient. “While the majority of luxury shopping still takes place in physical retail stores, online and omnichannel expansion has steadily increased — China’s luxury online penetration surged to 23 percent in 2020, up from 12 percent the previous year,” Alibaba said in a statement. “Tmall Luxury Pavilion hosts more than [200] luxury brands, up from 150 before the coronavirus outbreak. While many cities in China have sporadically gone into lockdown, over 1,000 shopping events and new product launches took place digitally on the platform this year and last year.”  The company said luxury brands have continued to launch on Tmall Luxury Pavilion this year, “even during the economic downturn, including Bulgari, Moncler and Brunello Cucinelli.”  “We saw how quickly brands embraced digital transformation and consumers increased their online consumption,” said Wang, adding that consumption trends during the pandemic included an increase in gifting for loved ones and purchases of home furnishings as well as purchases of objects that hold their value, such as watches and jewelry.  Between 2019 and 2021, the customer base of the Tmall Luxury Pavilion soared 150 percent while sales jumped 300 percent, the company said, citing the platform’s innovative digital experiences as the reason for its growth.  Regarding this latest digital experience, Wang said before metaverse became a buzzword, “we had already transformed this buzzword into a commercial reality. Now, as part of its fifth-anniversary celebration, Luxury Pavilion is hosting an augmented reality fashion show on Sept. 22 in collaboration with Vogue China and various artists.”  “Instead of supermodels, imagine ‘super mascots’ from top luxury brands will strut their stuff down virtual runways,” Wang said. “Viewers on Tmall Luxury Pavilion’s platform can interact with these super mascots in various ways, including taking selfies with them.”  Wang said the Tmall Luxury Pavilion is also introducing “a new Meta Pass, which confers priority digital access to products from brands such as Burberry and Max Mara.”  The Meta Pass package includes digital warrants that are certified on the blockchain. “Swift-footed consumers will be able to exchange these warrants for limited editions, including Bogner’s 90th anniversary snowboard, Max Mara’s fall 2022 collection oversize sweater, Burberry’s signature Lola bag and Marni’s fleece-lined Pablo sneakers,” Wang said, adding that the digital environment “can provide consumers with the same, or even better, shopping experiences and luxury-brand identities than in the real world.”  Over the past few years, the Tmall Luxury Pavilion has “deployed 3D shopping, augmented reality and virtual reality try-ons for products, digital avatars and digital collectibles,” Alibaba said in a statement, noting that more than 20 luxury brands have released digital art collectibles on the platform as well as held virtual fashion shows.  ‘This year, Cartier, Vacheron Constantin, Burberry and others used video consultants to livestream one-on-one with VIP customers,” the company said. “More than 20 brands have launched watch testing on Tmall Luxury Pavilion, and other digital services such as bracelet adjustment, bag maintenance, even down to shoe cleaning.”

It is quick access and easy to use for a few dishes.” Loads of reviewers call it a “must have,” “a game changer” and a “kitchen essential.” But one deadpan fan framed their adoration a bit differently: “Makes washing dishes less annoying.” Isn’t that the main goal here, people? “Is this a kitchen necessity?” they continued, “No. Does it make dishwashing much easier? Yes…Not having to constantly re-apply soap to my sponge via the bottle is a convenience I appreciate! Just a little push down and bam, soaped up. The product came with an extra pump, a sponge and the container. It was very easy to assemble and fill. The pump reaches way down to the very bottom of the container assuring it’ll use all of the soap before it needs to be refilled. Crypto Prices Under Pressure Heres 10 Ways To Protect Your Wealth From The Fed Cryptonews
Crypto Prices Under Pressure Heres 10 Ways To Protect Your Wealth From The Fed Cryptonews
Crypto Prices Under Pressure – Here’s 10 Ways To Protect Your Wealth From The Fed – Cryptonews https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/crypto-prices-under-pressure-heres-10-ways-to-protect-your-wealth-from-the-fed-cryptonews/ Source: Adobe Stock Crypto prices are telling us that there’s a storm brewing if it’s not already here, so the sensible thing to do is to batten down the hatches.  But what exactly does that mean for market participants in the cryptocurrency space? What action can and should you take to preserve your wealth? Increasingly it looks likely that the U.S. Federal Reserve FOMC will be increasing rates by a minimum of 0.75%, with 1% being a distinct possibility. Crypto investors have never before been so fixated on the price of borrowing money, or at least not when it comes to the old type of money we know as fiat. The circulation of goods and services of course depends on wheels of commerce being oiled by a plentiful supply of liquidity. But too much of that liquidity in the wrong places can cause problems, and one of them is inflation.  Inflation is the most obvious sign of a malaise that crypto adherents will be quick to shout we told you so – all that QE funny money just put off the crisis.   But the storm is such that it is and will envelope all before it, including cryptos, so how to prepare to weather it? 1. Don’t realize your losses The first rule of investing applies to crypto too – don’t realize your losses by selling. We will moderate this later, but as a general rule don’t sell unless you have to.  For sure your favourite portfolio management tool will be flashing red. But if you are happy with the case for investing in all of those coins you hold, then stop firing up the app on the hour every hour and give it a rest. Maybe turn off some of those watchlist notifications too.  As he often does, legendary investor Warren Buffett sums it up nicely:  “The first rule of an investment is don’t lose [money]. And the second rule of an investment is don’t forget the first rule.” 2. Time in the market no timing the market Another useful adage to be cognizant of at this juncture is the ultimate folly of trying to time when to enter and exit the market. The normal practice of the herd is to buy at the top and sell at the bottom.  The smart investors do the opposite, they try to buy at the bottom – or at least when others are fleeing the market and decimating prices – and selling at the top.  That is not to say that you should sell everything, go into cash and then wait for when you think the bottom is in.  Even Wall Street’s finest can’t get those calls right, and they charge you top dollar for their active mutual funds that claim they can. The best strategy is to stay in the market but to adjust and rebalance, which we talk about further below. Bitcoin is far and away still the largest and most important crypto in the complex 3. Become a crypto value investor Warren Buffett is the classic value investor and that is one of the reasons why he hates crypto with a vengeance.  He doesn’t know how to measure value in crypto as there are no earnings and, supposedly, therefore no net income and dividends to be paid to shareholders. Maybe it is a generational prejudice things, but there are plenty of crypto companies and assets that are producing earnings and paying dividends, so much so that the SEC has been knocking at the door of some of those entities, or will be – here’s looking at your Ethereum Foundation!  So there are fundamentals that can be valued, which ultimately reside in the value a network represents in, be that in data storage, gaming, value transfer etc.  So the value investor looks for companies, or in our case coins, that are under valued by the market. You might say that’s a tough call because everything is under valued right now. True to some extent, but some more so than others. Is BNB coin undervalued? Exchange coins such as Binance Coin (BNB) are hugely undervalued, for example, it could be argued, given that Binance is likely to emerge from this crypto winter as an even bigger and more dominant exchange than it already is. Is Ethereum undervalued? Ethereum, it could be argued, is also a contender as a uniquely undervalued network, given the success of its Merge upgrade.  Admittedly much more needs to be done before Proof of Stake is a meaningful reality for end users, but in the eyes of a value investor, Ethereum has just become a cash cow for the network’s validators. Gaming is a sector where revenue is being generated by a host of networks and the games that run on them. There are no indications that this trend is slowing – on the contrary it is likely to pick up speed.  So in addition to some of the network level plays, such as Decentraland and The Sandbox, there are new kids on the block to watch such as Battle Infinity and Tamadoge. 4. Be a bottom-up investor Don’t be too dogmatic in your approach. Even if you are taking the value approach and you have a bias to certain sectors and sub sectors, don’t let that blind you to a really good prospect.  Bottom-up investors take each case as it comes, analysing companies on an individual basis, even if they are operating in a sector deemed to be unfavorable. We can apply the same approach when it comes to crypto. You may have determined that crypto cross-border payments at a commercial level are going to be squeezed by the advent of central bank digital currencies, but does that mean you should reject out of hand every opportunity in that area.  What if Ripple wins its court case? There could be a huge run up in the price of its XRP token and it could see adoption rocket as one of the leaders in the space. 5. Banish short-termism The difference – or at least one of them – between a speculator and an investor is time.  The speculator is out to make a quick buck while the investor takes a longer term view the will typically be measured in months and years rather hours and days when it come to the speculator. Warren Buffet once famously said: “The stock market is a device for transferring money from the impatient to the patient.” Remember that’s true in crypto too. 6. Run your winners Unfortunately many investors do not do the rational thing. As soon as a position goes into profit, the temptation to bank it is strong.  On the face of it that can seem a sensible approach, but more often than not investors will close winning positions too early, only to miss out on big future profits.  Certainly at times like this, when the market is moving as one on a downward trajectory, there doesn’t seem like much to choose from between the winners and losers.  However, in your total portfolio allocations, there will be better performers than others – they could still be the ones that are going to contribute most towards future returns.  7…cut your losses Another way that human psychology acts against the best interests of the smart crypto investor is when our heart makes us attached to a losing position.  We said earlier don’t realize losses by selling, but sometimes that makes sense if the situation is not recoverable.  There are some coins that are cheap for a reason – actually there are thousands of them among the 20,000 or so listed by coinmarketcap.  Maybe the technology is beyond redemption, the path to user growth is irredeemably blocked and the business model shot to pieces. If so, get out.  8. Capital preservation with passive income When billions are evaporating from the markets daily and inflation is running rampant, it start to feel scary. Where can you park your cash and stopping it from devaluing?  The answer used to be government debt (Treasury Bills) and savings accounts. But savings accounts still pay a pittance and the only bonds worth buying are Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities, or Tips as they are known. Luckily, there is a safe port for your wealth to be found in crypto – staking.  Staking may have got a bad name after a bunch of crypto lenders imploded triggered by the TerraUSD debacle. However, not all staking is the same.  Staking your coins to secure a valuable network is different to throwing it in to the black box of tricks that underpinned the algorithmic financial engineering of TerraUSD non-stable stablecoin. Stake with a network that has demonstrable traction such as Ethereum Admittedly staking on Ethereum requires that you have a minimum holding of 32 ETH, which is the threshold to become a validator and may be beyond the means of many.  That will earn you enough – around 12% by some estimates if you include the burn effect which all ETH holders benefit from – to beat inflation at its current rate. However, you can entrust your ETH to intermediaries of one sort or another who will stake on your behalf, so you will receive less return, but it will still far better than a savings account.  And there are  alternatives to Ethereum – but go for the protocols and service providers with the deepest pockets.  These entities may not have the best yields, but they are much less likely to fail. Many of these intermediaries will be found among the larger longer-established crypto exchanges, such as Kraken, Coinbase and Binance 9. Look at the whole picture (other asset classes) Professional investors say that, along with compound interest, asset allocation is the key to investment success.  To this way of thinking it isn’t so much what stocks or coins you invest in, so much as which asset class weights (percentage of holdings) you choose for your portfolio. From a crypto investor’s perspective that means asking some hard questions about what percentage of your wealth you have in crypto, and is it an amount your feel comfortable with in terms of your own risk profile. To state the obvious, if crypto accounts for 5% of your net worth, you are going to take a different attitude to a 20% falls in the total market cap of the asset class than you are if you hav...

Putin Orders Partial Military Call-Up, Sparking Protests – Lynchburg News And Advance https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/putin-orders-partial-military-call-up-sparking-protests-lynchburg-news-and-advance/ By KARL RITTER – Associated Press KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a partial mobilization of reservists Wednesday, taking a risky and deeply unpopular step that follows humiliating setbacks for his troops nearly seven months after invading Ukraine. The first such call-up in Russia since World War II is sure to further fuel tensions with the Western backers of Ukraine, who derided it as an act of weakness and desperation. The move also sent some Russians scrambling to buy plane tickets out of the country and reportedly sparked some demonstrations. The Kremlin has struggled to replenish its troops in Ukraine, reaching out for volunteers. There even have been reports of widespread recruitment in prisons. In his seven-minute nationally televised address, Putin also warned the West that he isn’t bluffing over using everything at his disposal to protect Russia — an apparent reference to his nuclear arsenal. He has previously told the West not to back Russia against the wall and has rebuked NATO countries for supplying weapons to Ukraine. The total number of reservists to be called up could be as high as 300,000, officials said. However, Putin’s decree authorizing the partial mobilization that took effect immediately offered few details, raising suspicions that the draft could be broadened at any moment. Notably, one clause was kept secret. Even a partial mobilization is likely to increase dismay or doubt among Russians about the war. Shortly after Putin’s address, Russian media reported a spike in demand for plane tickets abroad amid an apparent scramble to leave despite exorbitant prices. The Vesna opposition movement called for nationwide protests, although it was unclear how many would act, given Russia’s harsh laws against criticizing the military and the war. “Thousands of Russian men — our fathers, brothers and husbands — will be thrown into the meat grinder of the war. What will they be dying for? What will mothers and children be crying for?” the group said. As protest calls circulated online, the Moscow prosecutor’s office warned that organizing or participating in such actions could lead to up to 15 years in prison. Authorities issued similar warnings ahead of other protests recently. The state communication watchdog Roskomnadzor also warned media that access to their websites would be blocked for transmitting “false information” about the mobilization. It was unclear exactly what that meant. Within hours, police arrested scores of people at antiwar protests across Russia, including at least a dozen in Moscow. An Associated Press crew in Moscow witnessed at least dozen of arrests in the first 15 minutes of a protest. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, asked what had changed since he and others previously said no mobilization was planned, said Russia is effectively fighting NATO because the alliance’s members have supplied weapons to Kyiv. The partial mobilization order came a day after Russian-controlled regions in eastern and southern Ukraine announced plans for referendums on becoming integral parts of Russia — a move that could eventually allow Moscow to escalate the war. The referendums will start Friday in the Luhansk, Kherson and partly Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions. The balloting is all but certain to go Moscow’s way. Foreign leaders are already calling the votes illegitimate and nonbinding. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said they were a “sham” and “noise” to distract the public. U.S. national security council spokesperson John Kirby said Putin’s speech is “definitely a sign that he’s struggling, and we know that.” Added White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on MSNBC: “It’s all because Russia is losing ground on the battlefield.” Kirby told ABC’s “Good Morning America” that Russia has suffered tens of thousands of casualties, has command and control issues, terrible troop morale, desertion problems and is “forcing the wounded back (into) the fight.” But Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, who also spoke on Russian TV, said 5,937 Russian soldiers have died in the conflict, far lower than Western estimates. Shoigu also said that only those with relevant combat and service experience will be mobilized, adding that about 25 million people fit this criteria but only about 1% of them will be mobilized. Neither Shoigu nor Putin offered any other criteria for the call-up, so it wasn’t clear how many years of combat experience or what level of training those to be mobilized must have. The decree, signed by Putin and released on the Kremlin website, provided even less clarity, stipulating only that “citizens of the Russian Federation” will be drafted in the partial mobilization. Another key clause in the decree prevents most professional soldiers from terminating their contracts and leaving service until the partial mobilization is no longer in place. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has been the target of broad international criticism at the U.N. General Assembly that has kept up intense diplomatic pressure on Moscow. Zelenskyy is due to speak to the gathering in a prerecorded address later Wednesday. Putin is not attending. U.S. President Joe Biden used the global forum to say Russia has “shamelessly violated the core tenets” of the U.N with its “brutal, needless war” in Ukraine. He said Putin’s new nuclear threats against Europe showed “reckless disregard” for Russia’s responsibilities as a signer of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. Putin’s mobilization gambit has a strong element of risk: It could backfire by making the war unpopular at home and hurting his own standing. It also concedes Russia’s underlying military shortcomings. A Ukraine counteroffensive this month has seized the military initiative from Russia, as well as capturing large areas in Ukraine that the Russians once held. Its speed saw Russian troops abandon armored vehicles and other weapons as they retreated. A spokesman for Zelenskyy called the mobilization a “big tragedy” for the Russian people. In a statement to The Associated Press, Ukrainian presidential spokesman Sergii Nikiforov said conscripts sent to Ukraine would face the same fate as ill-prepared Russian forces who unsuccessfully tried to take Kyiv early in the war. “This is a recognition of the incapacity of the Russian professional army, which has failed in all its tasks,” Nikiforov said. The Russian mobilization is unlikely to produce any consequences on the battlefield for months because of a lack of training facilities and equipment. British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace described Putin’s move as “an admission that his invasion is failing.” Russian political analyst Dmitry Oreshkin said it seemed “an act of desperation.” He predicted that Russians will resist the mobilization through “passive sabotage.” “People will evade this mobilization in every possible way, bribe their way out of this mobilization, leave the country,” Oreshkin told the AP. The announcement will be unpopular, he said, describing it as “a huge personal blow to Russian citizens, who until recently (took part in the hostilities) with pleasure, sitting on their couches, (watching) TV. And now the war has come into their home.” The war in Ukraine, which has killed thousands of people, has driven up food prices worldwide and caused energy costs to soar. It has also brought fears of a potential nuclear catastrophe at Europe’s largest nuclear plant in Ukraine’s now Russia-occupied southeast. Investigations are also underway into possible war crimes atrocities committed by Moscow’s forces. In his address, which was far shorter than previous speeches on the war, Putin accused the West of engaging in “nuclear blackmail” and noted “statements of some high-ranking representatives of the leading NATO states about the possibility of using nuclear weapons of mass destruction against Russia.” He didn’t elaborate. “To those who allow themselves such statements regarding Russia, I want to remind you that our country also has various means of destruction … and when the territorial integrity of our country is threatened, to protect Russia and our people, we will certainly use all the means at our disposal,” Putin said, adding: “It’s not a bluff.” In a speech hours later in Novgorod marking 1,160 years of Russian statehood, Putin hailed the “heroes” fighting in Ukraine and stressed the “colossal responsibility” of protecting the nation’s sovereignty. Bulking And Cutting: How A Fitness Trend May Be Impacting Youth Medical News Today
Bulking And Cutting: How A Fitness Trend May Be Impacting Youth Medical News Today
Bulking And Cutting: How A Fitness Trend May Be Impacting Youth – Medical News Today https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/bulking-and-cutting-how-a-fitness-trend-may-be-impacting-youth-medical-news-today/ Young adults and adolescents may be negatively impacted by dieting and fitness trends. Cavan Images/Getty Images Researchers investigated the link between ‘bulking and cutting’ diets and mental health in adolescents and young adults. They found that ‘bulking and cutting’ is linked to a higher incidence of eating disorders and muscle dysmorphia. They conclude that their findings have important implications for clinical and public health efforts. Engaging in muscularity-oriented eating and weight-control behaviors is common among adolescents and young adults and varies according to gender. “Bulking and cutting” is a dietary technique in which individuals alternate between periods of high caloric surplus— ‘bulking’, and periods of caloric restriction—‘cutting’, to increase muscle definition. Until now, few studies have explored the link between bulk and cut cycles and psychological factors such as the drive for muscularity, eating disorders, and muscle dysmorphia. Recently, researchers conducted a study to understand the prevalence of bulk and cut cycles across genders and to recognize any links with mental health conditions. They found that almost half of young men and one in five women, transgender, and gender non-conforming (TGNC) individuals engaged in ‘bulk and cut’ cycles in the last 12 months. They also found that “bulking and cutting” was linked to an increased incidence of muscle dysmorphia and eating disorders among all genders. The study was published in Eating and Weight Disorders- Studies on Anorexia, Bulimia, and Obesity. For the study, the researchers used survey data from 2,762 individuals from the Canadian Study of Adolescent Health Behaviors. Participants were between 16 and 30 years old and were recruited between November and December 2021 via adverts on Instagram and Snapchat. Survey topics included: Engagement in bulking and cutting cycles over the last 30 days and 12 months Drive for muscularity Eating disorder evaluation Muscle dysmorphia Demographic factors, including race/ethnicity, education level, gender identity After analyzing the results, the researchers found that men were almost twice as likely as women and TGNC individuals to engage in bulk and cut cycles in the last 12 months and in the last 30 days. They conversely found, however, that women and TGNC participants tended to complete more bulk and cut cycles than men. They further found that in men, women, and TGNC participants, bulking and cutting were associated with a higher drive for muscularity, eating disorders, and muscle dysmorphia. Engaging in bulk and cut cycles in the last 12 months and 30 days was also linked to a greater incidence of eating disorders and muscle dysmorphia among men and women. However, eating and cut cycles correlated only with muscle dysmorphia among TGNC participants in the last 12 months. “Muscle dysmorphia is also known as bigorexia or reverse anorexia,” Dr. Jason Nagata, assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco, and senior author of this study, told Medical News Today. “Muscle dysmorphia occurs when an individual becomes obsessed with becoming muscular. They may view themselves as puny even if they are objectively muscular.”— Dr. Jason Nagata To explain their results, the researchers noted that men’s engagement in bulking and cutting — with an average of three cycles per year — generally aligns with regimes promoted by the fitness industry to achieve body ideals. They added that women might be more compelled to engage in shorter bulk and cut cycles — leading to a greater number of completed cycles — to ensure a more consistent body image without excessive muscle gain or body fat. They also noted that the greater number of completed bulk and cut cycles among TGNC individuals might be evidence of a greater level of disordered eating to align with gender-specific body ideals. When asked about the study’s limitations, Dr. Rebecca L. Pearl, assistant professor at the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology at the University of Florida, told MNT: “Since ‘bulk’ and ‘cut’ cycling has received little attention in eating disorder research and treatment, there is not yet a standardized way to screen for this in young people. It’s possible that the questions used in the current study to assess ‘bulk’ and ‘cut’ behaviors may not have measured exactly what the authors intended to measure across all participants.” “As the authors highlighted in their paper, it’s possible that some participants – particularly women and transgender and gender non-conforming individuals – may have been thinking about times when they cycled between binge eating and subsequent caloric restriction (symptoms of bulimia nervosa) when they endorsed the questions about cycling between “overconsumption” and “underconsumption,” she said. “[P]articipants in this study were recruited via social media. Individuals who are active on social media may have greater exposure to and/or greater interest in messages related to fitness ideals and muscularity-oriented disordered eating and weight control practices [than those less active on social media]. Thus, the prevalence of ‘bulk’ and ‘cut’ behaviors in the study sample could potentially be higher than in the general population.”— Dr. Rebecca L. Pearl The researchers concluded that their findings have important implications for future research and clinical and public health efforts. When asked what these implications might be, Dr. Kyle T. Ganson, assistant professor at the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work at the University of Toronto and the study’s lead author, told MNT: “Given the popularity of this dietary practice, and the fact that it is supported and emphasized in many communities (i.e., online, social media, fitness), we need to be thinking of it as potentially overlapping with serious mental and behavioral health conditions that can have significant adverse effects.” “Healthcare professionals need to be aware of this unique behavior and not just screening for ‘typical’ eating disorder behaviors, such food restriction and binge-eating, or ‘typical’ body-focused attitudes and behaviors, such as [a] drive for thinness.”— Dr. Kyle T. Ganson “Overall, we need to bring bulking and cutting, which is within the larger umbrella of muscularity-oriented eating and weight control behaviors, and the potential problems associated with these behaviors, into focus within our society, and among health and mental healthcare systems,” he added. Dr. Ganson told MNT that eating disorders are characterized by intense fears of gaining weight, significant body dissatisfaction, and problematic eating behaviors such as food restriction, binging, and purging. “If people sense that their psychological, social, and/or occupational functioning is being impeded by their focus on body and food, this may be an indicator of a potential eating disorder,” he said. “It is important to note here that eating disorders can impact anyone, including all genders and sexual identities, races and ethnicities, people of all body sizes, and across the income spectrum. People shouldn’t assume that they don’t have an eating disorder because they do not fit the mold society has prescribed as having an eating disorder: white, young, skinny, affluent, female.”— Dr. Kyle T. Ganson Dr. Ganson noted that muscle dysmorphia has similar psychological, behavioral, and functional symptoms to eating disorders. However, he said it differs as it is primarily driven by significant muscle dissatisfaction and an intense desire to gain muscle. “This may manifest in excessive and compulsive exercise and weight training, dietary practices aimed at increasing muscularity (i.e., bulking and cutting), and use of appearance- and performance-enhancing drugs and substances, like anabolic steroids,” he pointed out. To treat eating disorders and muscle dysmorphia, Dr. Pearl said talking with somebody is a good first step. “Many individuals keep these behaviors a secret from their loved ones due to shame and fear of judgment, which can lead them to feel even more ashamed and alone. Seeking professional help is important, which could include talking to your doctor or finding a mental health professional or nutritionist who specializes in body image and eating disorders,” she said. “Non-profit and advocacy organizations such as the National Eating Disorders Association offer resources for obtaining accurate information, understanding treatment options, and connecting with others who have had similar experiences,” she added.

The New Astro A30 Headset Can Pull In Audio From Three Gadgets At Once – TechNewsBoy.com – Technewsboy https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/the-new-astro-a30-headset-can-pull-in-audio-from-three-gadgets-at-once-technewsboy-com-technewsboy/ Logitech has announced a new iteration of the Astro A30 wireless gaming headset, a product that’s gone without an update for several years. It’ll cost $229.99 when it releases in October. The new A30 looks like a modern take on the previous version (thankfully, it’s far less shiny), with the return of its customizable speaker tags that magnetically attach to each side as well as the square-ish shape of the speaker housings. The A30 will be available in matte navy or matte white, and each colorway has a cool (or chintzy, depending on your taste) chrome design effect beneath the replaceable speaker tags. It’ll release with two models: one that includes a USB-A wireless transmitter that works with Xbox consoles, PC, macOS, and mobile, and one that works with those platforms and PlayStation consoles. Console compatibility is a bit of a weird thing here. Just like its A20 Gen 2 from 2020, a single A30 headset can work with both families of consoles, but you’ll have to pay to unlock its cross-platform compatibility. It’ll sell you a second transmitter that you can pop into either console. Logitech didn’t respond to an inquiry about how much each transmitter will cost ahead of publication, but if it’s anything like the A20’s transmitter, it’ll likely cost around $20. The headset’s page listing was live ahead of the embargo lifting, and it revealed that Astro has a USB-C audio transmitter in the works that can plug directly into the Switch console and mobile devices or computers that have a USB-C port. On the page, it says, “Purchase additional USB-A and USB-C transmitters to enable a LIGHTSPEED 2.4 Ghz wireless connection to your other consoles and mobile devices.” This image from Best Buy’s product listing shows a USB-C transmitter plugged into a Switch console (seen at the top right). Image: Logitech The A30 offers a decent number of nice-to-have features, like swiveling ear cups, up to 27 hours of battery life per charge, and a multifunction joystick that makes it easy to adjust volume and game / chat audio on PC or Xbox (but not PlayStation, oddly). There are some more clever additions, too, like its ability to pull in audio from three sources at once (2.4GHz, Bluetooth, and 3.5mm wired) and the onboard mic it has so you don’t have to go outside to take calls with its long boom mic attached. The A30 will be available in these two matte-textured colorways. A hard zip-up case is included, along with a USB-C charging cable, a 3.5mm audio cable, and a boom mic. Image: Logitech Though, to me, the A30’s most interesting feature is its deep integration with Logitech’s G Hub mobile app. From there, you can do the expected stuff, like check battery life and update its firmware. But the app also lets you set profiles, each with its own set of detailed preferences. You can, say, tweak the equalizer for the “Astro Footsteps” mode in the game profile and then set a custom EQ for a different profile. The app also lets you adjust the noise gate for its microphones as well as the amount of sidetone (which is akin to transparency modes in headphones that let in noise from the outside world). Typically, headset makers try to cram as much of this kind of functionality as possible into the hardware itself, leading to a sloppy button layout with a steep learning curve. Logitech’s mobile software solves for some of that, and it gives tinkerers a place to run wild with settings. It’s just worth keeping in mind that, if for some reason you don’t want to use an app alongside the headset, the A30 offers fewer features with the hardware alone. Here are a few screens you can expect to see within the Logitech G Hub mobile app. Image: Logitech I’ve only had a few days to check out the A30, and based on my initial impressions, the audio performance is well-rounded. The sound isn’t all-encompassing, filled with booming bass or a full array of immersive detail. For the price, I was expecting a bit more, though some gamers may be satisfied. Beyond performance, I’m most impressed with the app features that make the A30 feel more worth its somewhat high $229 cost. Dow Rises 100 Points As Wall Street Braces For Fed Rate Hike Decision – CNBC https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/dow-rises-100-points-as-wall-street-braces-for-fed-rate-hike-decision-cnbc/ Expect a ‘short-lived’ relief rally coming off of Fed decision, Wolfe Research’s Senyek says Prepare for a brief market rally after the Federal Reserve doles out its rate hike decision on Wednesday, Wolfe Research’s Chris Senyek says. “Our sense is that markets could be set up for a short-lived relief rally if the Fed hikes by +75bps and Powell doesn’t ratchet up his hawkish rhetoric even further,” he wrote in a note to clients. “That said, we don’t anticipate having to change our intermediate-term bearish call.” Going forward, Senyek expects core inflation to remain sticky. That will likely force the Fed to raise the fed funds rate to 5% or greater if it hopes to achieve its long-term goal of 2%. Vital Knowledge’s Adam Crisafulli agreed with Senyek’s sentiment. “The consensus view is that stocks will squeeze after the Fed this afternoon before surrendering the whole move and then some Thurs, Fri, and beyond,” he said in a note to clients Wednesday. — Samantha Subin Yield on 2-year Treasury note tops 4% for first time since October 2007 The yield on the 2-year Treasury note hit above 4% for the first time since 2007 on Wednesday as traders questioned whether the Federal Reserve will need to hike even further to tame surging inflation. The 2-year Treasury yield rose 4 basis points to 4.006%. It last touched that level in October 2007. The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury was last trading at 3.561%, down by roughly 1 basis points, after notching an 11-year high this week. According to some investors, the inversion — which continues to put short-term rates above long-term rates — indicates rising risks of a recession ahead. — Fred Imbert, Samantha Subin Only two stocks hit new 52-week highs on Wednesday General Mills and Northrop Grumman were the only two stocks in the S&P 500 to hit new 52-week highs during Wednesday morning trading. General Mills is trading at all-time highs dating back to 1927, and Northrop Grumman is at its highest point since the 1994 merger between Northrop Aircraft and Grumman Aerospace. Meanwhile, eight stocks in the broader market index hit new 52-week lows, including Match Group, which is trading at an all-time low since its 2015 IPO. Here are the new S&P 500 52-week lows: Charter Communications trading at lows not seen since March 2020 Meta Platforms trading at lows not seen since March 2020 Match Group trading at all-time lows back to its IPO in November 2015 Verizon trading at lows not seen since August 2015 Cooper Companies trading at lows not seen since July 2020 Southwest trading at lows not seen since August 2020 Catalent trading at lows not seen since October 2020 Micron trading at lows not seen since November 2020 — Christopher Hayes, Sarah Min Oil futures soften Oil futures have given up their overnight gains that followed Russian president Vladimir Putin’s announcement of a partial military mobilization for the war in Ukraine. Futures for U.S. benchmark West Texas intermediate were down 0.2% to $83.77 per barrel. European benchmark Brent crude futures were trading flat at $90.67 per barrel. While the ongoing war and sanctions on Russia have pressured energy supply, particularly in Europe, oil prices have trended downward in recent months in part because concerns about a global recession have damped the outlook for demand. — Jesse Pound Defensive sectors lead Wednesday’s gains Sectors in the S&P 500 with a defensive tilt led most of the gains in the benchmark index on Wednesday. All 11 sectors — with the exception of communication services — were positive. Utilities and consumer staples were the best-performing areas, rising more than 1% each. Real estate and industrials also added 1%. — Samantha Subin Existing home sales decline in August Existing home sales declined in August at the slowest monthly pace since June 2020, the National Association of Realtors said Wednesday. Sales of previously owned homes fell 0.4% in August from last month to seasonally adjusted annualized rate of 4.80 million units and were 19.9% lower year over year. — Diana Olick, Samantha Subin Stocks open higher ahead of Fed decision Stocks opened higher on Wednesday as investors looked ahead to the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 171 points, or 0.56%. The S&P 500 climbed 0.57%, and the Nasdaq Composite added 0.34%. — Samantha Subin The Fed has a big agenda in addition to expected rate increase In addition to its expected interest rate hike, the Federal Reserve has multiple other items on the docket for its two-day meeting that concludes Wednesday. The central bank is expected to raise benchmark interest rates by 0.75 percentage point. But along with that, it also will provide updates on its economic and rates forecasts over the next three years. Pivotal in that outlook will be the “terminal” rate, or point when the Fed thinks it will need to stop hiking to battle runaway inflation. Chairman Jerome Powell also will hold his traditional post-meeting news conference, where he is expected to emphasize the Fed’s commitment to battling inflation even if it means harm to the broader economy. “Fighting inflation is job-one,” said Eric Winograd, senior economist at AllianceBernstein. “The consequences of not fighting inflation are greater than the consequences of fighting it. If that means recession, then that’s what it means.” —Jeff Cox Brace for disappointment coming out of the Fed meeting, Comerica’s Lynch says Investors should prepare for more upset following the Federal Reserve’s latest rate-hike meeting as inflation numbers show persistent pressures beyond just food and energy, said Comerica Wealth Management’s John Lynch. “Investors will be looking for clarity on the extent of the Fed’s tightening campaign and we suspect they’ll be disappointed,” he said, adding that the inflation moves further complicate the Fed’s decision making. Given this backdrop, Lynch expects equities to retest June lows and believes third-quarter earnings — and revisions to companies’ guidance — will muddle investor sentiment. “Fortunately, history shows improved market performance following midterm elections, so we encourage investors to maintain targeted allocations,” he said. — Samantha Subin Financials, tech earnings should rebound in 2023, says Credit Suisse’s Golub Energy earnings have widely outperformed the broader S&P 500 this year, but Credit Suisse’s Jonathan Golub expects the tables to turn come 2023. “While Energy EPS is forecasted to grow 100%+ in 2022, Financials and TECH+ earnings are projected to experience an outright contraction,” he wrote in a note to clients Wednesday. “However, these distortions are expected to reverse in 2023, with Energy EPS predicted to contract -12% while, Financials and TECH+ earnings are projected to grow double-digits.” Earnings growth for the S&P 500 is expected to grow by just 6.1% during the first half of 2023, but expand by 9.1% through the second half. — Samantha Subin Wheat and corn ETFs gain pre-market as Russia calls up 300,000 reservists The Teucrium Wheat Fund and Teucrium Corn Fund rose pre-market Wednesday after Russia called up 300,000 reservists to add to forces fighting against Ukraine. The wheat ETF is higher by about 0.8% while the corn ETF is adding about 0.4%. December wheat contracts reached a high of $9.195 per bushel earlier, the highest since July 11, while December corn hit $6.985 (only a nine-day high). — Scott Schnipper, Gina Francolla Stocks making the biggest moves premarket: Beyond Meat, Stitch Fix, Aurora Cannabis and more These are some of the stocks making big moves in the premarket: Stitch Fix — Stitch Fix’s stock slid 5.9% in premarket trading after reporting a wider-than-expected quarterly loss and issuing a weak forecast. The online clothing styling company expects sales to fall over the short term as the number of active customers declines. Beyond Meat – Beyond Meat suspended Chief Operating Officer Doug Ramsey after he was involved in a physical altercation over the weekend which resulted in third-degree battery and terroristic threatening charges. Beyond Meat fell 1.1% in premarket trading on top of a 6% slide Tuesday. Aurora Cannabis – Aurora Cannabis lost 2.1% in the premarket after reporting a breakeven quarter, on an adjusted basis, surprising analysts who predicted a quarterly loss. ERDC, DEVCOM ARL Partners Create A Bright Future With New Photonic Technology – Erdc.usace.army.mil https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/erdc-devcom-arl-partners-create-a-bright-future-with-new-photonic-technology-erdc-usace-army-mil/ VICKSBURG, Miss. — U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) researchers teamed up with researchers at the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command’s Army Research Laboratory (DEVCOM ARL) to develop the photonic integrated circuit (PIC), a new technology that captures and detects harmful water-borne contaminants in the environment. The technology uses tiny beams of light to probe a glass-like surface smaller than a human hair. The team anticipates that ― due to the device’s microscopic size — one day millions of PIC sensors could fit on the corner of a smartphone to permit real-time reporting of contamination. “Through high-impact publications and a conference presentation delivered by ERDC’s Drs. Gilbert Kosgei and Ashvin Fernando, our collaborators at DEVCOM ARL were able to get a sense of ERDC’s expertise,” ERDC Research Chemist Dr. Matthew Glasscott said. “We all saw an opportunity to integrate our materials with their instrument to detect contaminants within our military and civil mission spaces.” By placing a thin binding material on the PIC’s surface, specific contaminants of interest can be captured and detected at parts-per-trillion concentrations. The powerful sensors permit the detection of a single drop of contamination in an Olympic-sized swimming pool. The key to this technology is selecting a contamination binding material. In 2021, DEVCOM ARL requested assistance from Glasscott to develop special binding materials called molecularly imprinted polymers (MIP). Glasscott had previously published ERDC’s advances with MIP technology in peer-reviewed journals Environmental Science and Technology and Applied Polymer Materials. In order to be used in DEVCOM ARL’s sensor, the binding material had to meet three specifications. It had to be ultra-thin to fit on the small sensor; it needed to be computationally designed to bind specific contaminants; and it had to be reusable for multiple rounds of sensing.   With these considerations in mind, ERDC Materials Scientist Dr. Jared Cobb discovered an innovative method to generate nano-scale polymer films. “These films interact with visible light in new ways to produce colors that are not typically found in the rainbow,” Cobb said. “This is due to a phenomenon called thin-film interference with our ultra-thin polymer, and because we can precisely control the thickness of the films, we can also precisely control how they interact with visible light.” Drs. Caite Bresnahan and Tim Schutt, members of the ERDC computational chemistry team, developed a computational framework to optimize potential candidate materials for their binding interactions with target molecules. “Our procedure allows for a quick screening to reduce the amount of time and effort required for each new iteration of MIP-based contaminant sensors,” Bresnahan said. Glasscott traveled to Adelphi, Maryland, to personally deliver the binding technology to DEVCOM ARL, using their advanced clean room facility to successfully demonstrate ERDC’s material as a reusable sensor. The technology transfer has resulted in a promising new instrument for sensing harmful contaminants, which ERDC and DEVCOM ARL will continue to develop collaboratively through Fiscal Year 2023. “The future of this photonic technology is bright, and our team looks forward to leveraging the Power of ERDC along with DEVCOM ARL capabilities to bring it to fruition for Soldiers and citizens alike,” Glasscott said.

Northlake Notes September 2022 The Cross Timbers Gazette
Northlake Notes — September 2022 – The Cross Timbers Gazette https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/northlake-notes-september-2022-the-cross-timbers-gazette/ Summer has ended and the first crazy few weeks of school are behind us. Argyle South Elementary in Canyon Falls opened this year, serving a small part of Northlake along with residents in Argyle and Flower Mound. Northwest ISD’ Lance Thompson Elementary is full and so they are building Johnie Daniel Elementary to open in a Pecan Square next year. The steel frame is up and crews are working hard to ensure it’s open for next fall. Argyle ISD is working on the next elementary school in Northlake as well to be built in The Ridge and serve the northern part of Northlake. Both staff and security and our local ISD, county and municipal police departments at all our schools serving this area are working hard to ensure a safe start to the year which is always the first priority. The summer ended with a blitz of home sales and closings as everyone got settled into new homes just before the school year. New builds are slowing down year over year with the increase in interest rates and inflationary pressure on home values. The slower pace is helpful for our long term economics as we work on significant new investments in infrastructure to support the growth. Our budget has wrapped up for this year. It follows the same principles we have followed for a couple years now. First, to sustain one of North Texas’ lowest tax rates coupled with a state capped maximum 20% homestead rate. This year we added a $100,000 exemption for our seniors and disabled residents who are particularly impacted by the explosive rise in cost of living. Second, because it is our responsibility to maintain the safety and security of all who live, work and pass through our community, we are adding eight new full time positions and a part time crossing guard team. These additions fully staff the town in order to sustain quality services. Third, in order to ensure we have a stable labor force of trained and dedicated long term personnel, we have a policy of providing an annual cost of living adjustment that keeps our staff all paid at or close to mid-market for our area. This model has worked well to reward hard working staff with competitive wages but also balance that with the need to be fiscally responsible with our town resources. Finally, with the growth in our town we are setting aside a large down payment to partner with the county and state for new roads and with Ft. Worth to secure millions of gallons of new water supplies to sustain our residents and businesses for years to come. The county bond program for this fall is especially focused on partnering with local jurisdictions to deliver key roadways. Northlake is taking steps to ensure we take advantage of every opportunity to advance our road infrastructure and utilize every resource available to fund the roads our residents need. I-35W, 114, 377, 407, 1171, Cleveland Gibbs, Strader, Faught, Florance and many smaller county and local roads are all moving forward in key sections to improve mobility in the years ahead. Securing funding is the key step and Northlake has had some major advancements this summer through both the county bond program and the state Unified Transportation Funding processes. May you all have a safe and pleasant journey through or to Northlake in the years ahead!

Costume Guidelines For Mickeys No-So-Scary Halloween Party The DIS
Costume Guidelines For Mickeys No-So-Scary Halloween Party The DIS
Costume Guidelines For Mickey’s No-So-Scary Halloween Party – The DIS https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/costume-guidelines-for-mickeys-no-so-scary-halloween-party-the-dis/ If your dream is to wear your favorite character costume to Disney Parks, usually the answer would be a flat-out no! We all know the rules when it comes to dressing up for the average Disney day; if you are 14 or older, costumes are a no-go. In recent years, Disney Bounding has been pushing the boundaries when it comes to what we can wear to the parks that aren’t a direct representation of the character’s outfit, i.e., a Cinderella dress, and more an outfit that is inspired by the character of their storyline; like a blue fit and flare dress with a fancy bun. Still, for many of us, that moment to live vicariously through the appearance of your favorite character in the parks remains unfulfilled. Unless you are heading to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in Magic Kingdom. Photo by Aiden Craver on Unsplash Even though costumes are allowed for this after-hours event, there are still a few guidelines you need to be aware of. Let’s go through them together to make sure none of us end up on the wrong side of Disney security. Guests 13 and Under For younger guests, the options are relatively limitless, with the only requirement being that all costumes and masks must allow for ‘unobstructed peripheral vision’ without exception and that the eyes can be fully seen through the openings. In a separate piece of advice, keep practicality in mind when dressing up your little ones. Stick with layers so they don’t overheat, and leave the princess heels and uncomfortable shoes at home unless you want to carry them all night long. Photo by Haley Phelps on Unsplash Guests 14 and Over For those fourteen and over, limitations are a little more detailed but still more flexible than on an average day in the park. Here are a few restrictions you need to keep in mind: While dressed as your favorite character, you must never pose (with guests) or give autographs at any time. The usual family-friendly rules apply where your costume must be appropriate for the environment and not be anything objectionable. Even if your costume would look more authentic with it, no weapons or weapon adjacent lookalike accessories are allowed. Your costume must not have anything sharp or pointy that could injure another guest or, let’s face it, yourself. Additional security screening might be required if your costume includes elaborate layers. The concern there is that you might have something uncool concealed underneath. Costumes are not allowed to drag on the ground, so be sure to hem those princess dresses for your safety and convenience when venturing around the park. No princess wants to trip over their own dress. Adding a cape to your outfit? Keep it short, no longer than the waist. You can add costume headwear, like wigs, hats, accessories, etc., as long as your face isn’t covered.  Adults and Teens are not allowed to wear masks of any kind. Get creative with face paint or makeup. Photo by Michael Marais on Unsplash If you aren’t sure if part of your costume will be acceptable, make sure you have a backup plan. Guests will be allowed to modify their costumes if deemed to be inappropriate, which means making sure that questionable accessory or item is removable, just in case. Basically, don’t show up looking like this guy above and expect to make it through the gates. Be prepared to lose the mask, hood, and weapon to make it in.
