Zetlys Sport Metaverse Gives Fans An All-In-One Bonding Experience With Their Favorite Teams CoinGeek
Zetlys Sport Metaverse Gives Fans An All-In-One Bonding Experience With Their Favorite Teams CoinGeek
Zetly’s ‘Sport Metaverse’ Gives Fans An All-In-One Bonding Experience With Their Favorite Teams – CoinGeek https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/zetlys-sport-metaverse-gives-fans-an-all-in-one-bonding-experience-with-their-favorite-teams-coingeek/ Home » Business » Zetly’s ‘Sport Metaverse’ gives fans an all-in-one bonding experience with their favorite teams Blockchain sports fandom firm Zetly is piloting a project called “Sport Metaverse.” It harnesses the power of VR/AR and tokenized assets on the BSV blockchain to create a richer connection between fans and their favorite teams. Sport Metaverse sees Zetly partnering with BSV blockchain VR/AR specialists Transmira, as well as gaming projects PowChess and Haste Arcade. It will initially focus on football clubs in Zetly’s home country, Poland. The plan is to develop a full Metaverse environment for fans to interact with objects in the physical world. Buying merchandise such as shirts, scarves, or other memorabilia will also give fans an NFT, which can then be used to scan a playing arena, access other limited-edition NFT collections, and enjoy play-to-earn games. There will be full 3D “digital twins” of existing playing arenas and their surrounds. These virtual stadiums allow fans to attend and cheer for their team from anywhere in the world and interact with fellow fans. Club partners and sponsors will also be able to use the virtual space for their own merchandising, giving clubs a new way to earn revenue. Clubs themselves will also be able to issue their own tokens, hold crowdfunding campaigns, and create virtual team currencies and other digital collections. Physical locations can also be connected to additional information about places, clubs, and their history. Fans can visit the locations in the real world and learn more about their favorite teams, as well as the places in which their team is playing. “The Sport Metaverse is an opportunity for development and a tool to engage fans, which is an ideal investment for those who put a close relationship with their fans first. We propose a solution that will be a revolution in the world of sport. In this project, we want to use the experience gained during the 3D scanning of buildings in Los Angeles. We are convinced that our Omniscape platform is the perfect partner for Zetly in the sports program,” Transmira CEO Robert Rice said. Transmira’s Omniscape is a growing platform that takes real-world locations and creates an interactive digital layer for companies wishing to interact with consumers. Using the BSV blockchain’s massive capacity for data processing and tokenization features, it enables new and unique customer experiences, and lets companies be creative with novel marketing opportunities. Rich virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) technology interacts with NFTs for special offers, events, tickets, and other experiences. In the Sport Metaverse, these other experiences include mini-games and “other engagement tools” developed by PowChess and Haste Arcade, who have been using the BSV blockchain to build entertaining casual games where players can win real money. Haste Arcade’s “Instant Leaderboard Payouts” system gives players fast gratification with their winnings, paying them out with micropayments in real-time. Zetly CEO Michael Glijer said that following the limited pilot program, his company aims to expand Sports Metaverse to other teams and sports. “This programme is unique because it contains almost everything that will be needed for a sports club on the Web3 ecosystem and the fun thing is that it costs nothing,” he said. “We aim to create a kind of snowball effect from these sports brands, together with our partners, and with the BSV Blockchain support. This is a win-win for us,” he added. Zetly is creating what it calls an “All in One Sport Platform” with a basis on the emotional bonds fans form with their favorite teams. Interacting with the VR/AR features and tokenized digital environment will give them an extra sense of belonging and influence beyond just buying tickets and cheering from the stands. IFTTT Routines For Fall Digital Trends
IFTTT Routines For Fall Digital Trends
IFTTT Routines For Fall – Digital Trends https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/ifttt-routines-for-fall-digital-trends/ For those who want more from our smart home gadgets, it can be frustrating when brand-based apps don’t do as much as you need them to or when certain smart home devices don’t talk to other smart home gadgets. IFTTT solves a lot of those issues by creating pathways for communications between disparate brands, ecosystems, and gadgets. If you’re not familiar with IFTTT, or If This Then That, it’s worth getting to know this tech platform, because it can make your life a lot easier, particularly as we start the slow slide to fall and winter. As days get shorter, and schedules get busier, now is a great time of year to put automation to work for you in a smart, productive way. IFTTT uses Applets which are like tech recipes to create triggers and results for your devices. The good news is IFTTT works with almost every tech brand. Here are a few of our favorite IFTTT Applets for the fall season. Automate your morning coffee When your alarm begins to go off before the sun peeks over the horizon, it can be tough to start the day. Imagine what your world would be like if you could have your coffee brewed and ready for you before you get out of bed. Even if you don’t have a smart coffee maker, you can create a smart coffee experience with some gadgetry and IFTTT. If your coffee maker isn’t smart, plug it into a smart plug, like an Amazon Smart Plug (which is quite inexpensive) so you can get remote or automated control over a coffee maker or kettle. There’s also a gadget called Switchbot that will actively press a button on almost any appliance or machine. Combine one of those devices with this IFTTT Applet  for coffee automation, and it can start the brewing or boiling process when you hit the snooze button on your alarm. Morning magic. Here are some other cool suggestions from the brains at IFTTT to kick start your morning routines. Turn lights on at dusk, off at dawn It’s always nice to have plenty of lighting when the days get shorter, but leaving lights on all day isn’t efficient. A better solution is to automate the entire process. This IFTTT lighting Applet uses your location to calculate the shifting sunrise and sunset times. Use it to automatically turn your smart lights on and off at sunset and sunrise, no matter the time of year. Get a frost alert It’s also at about this time of year when we start to worry about the coming cold. One of the most immediate needs for those who like to garden is to know when frost is coming so they can pick or protect vegetables growing in the garden. This handy plant IFTTT Applet will use your location, combined with weather forecasting to send you a note or message if frost is in the forecast for the following day. No more freeze-burned tomatoes! Find out when snow is coming As we advance further into the winter season, snow can come on rather unexpectedly. For those of us who don’t have cable TV and aren’t following the local weather forecaster, there’s the magic of IFTTT to notify you if there’s going to be snow. You can have IFTTT send you an email or push notification if snow is coming or (a personal preference) get IFTTT to turn your smart lights blue ahead of any white stuff. Drink water every hour When the temperature drops and we spend more time indoors, it can be easy to forget about some of the healthier habits we may have developed over the summer, like drinking lots of water.  This Applet will send you a push notification from the IFTTT app every hour on the hour to remind you to hydrate. Get out of awkward situations We’ve all been stuck in those too-long meetings, awkward conversations with the neighbor or feeling trapped with a long talker at a gathering. This Applet lets you extricate yourself from nearly any situation with a perfectly timed phone call. There’s versions for getting out of awkward situation for US phone numbers and an IFTTT Applet for international calls, too. This is the Applet you won’t know you need until you need it, so trust us; install it today and thank us later. Fall is a great time to explore new technology and get yourself organized. Use our suggestions for these handy Applets to set yourself up for the season or check out some of the best IFTTT Applets. J-Pop To Go Crypto With IEO-Funded Idol Group To Debut In 2023 – Cryptonews https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/j-pop-to-go-crypto-with-ieo-funded-idol-group-to-debut-in-2023-cryptonews/ The Japanese idol group AKB48. Source: Dennis Amith (kndynt2099)/(CC 2.0) J-pop is ready to take the crypto plunge, with Japan’s biggest pop producer set to debut a new “idol group” (a boy band or girlgroup) in the metaverse – a project that will be funded through an initial exchange offering (IEO). In a press release, a Japanese crypto-pop crossover project named Overse announced that it would be working with Yasushi Akimoto, the nation’s top pop record producer and lyricist, on a project that is scheduled to launch next year. Akimoto is the mastermind behind some of the biggest names in J-pop, such as Onyanko Club, Nogizaka46, and the AKB48 franchise. Akimoto has sold well over 100 million singles, and is the best-selling lyricist in Japan. His success in creating all-female, chart-topping pop acts has been unparalleled in his native country – and has even seen him contribute to the formation of South Korean girl group such as Iz*One. J-pop/crypto crossovers have been on the rise in recent years, and Overse will hope that Akimoto’s Midas touch will not fail him when the group debuts next year. Overse wrote that Akimoto would serve as the as-yet-unnamed group’s “general producer.” It also wrote that the project would be funded through an IEO, and that the group would be active in “blockchain technology” and “the metaverse.” The firm says that it hopes to go ahead with its IEO in “early 2023” – and will begin selecting members of group in Spring next year. It hopes to finalize the group’s membership by Summer – with a debut to follow in Fall. In a previous press release, the same firm stated that it had sealed an agreement with the domestic crypto exchange DMM Bitcoin and the crypto startup Coinbook. These two firms will carry out the IEO, with the sale likely to take place on DMM’s platform. IEOs are still largely uncharted territory for Japanese exchanges, but multiple companies are hoping to move into the space in the next few months – following regulators’ moves last year to formulate guidelines for the sector. In Japan, “idol” groups refer to boy bands and girlgroups that are recruited and managed by powerful domestic talent agencies. “Idol”-style pop groups have gone on to dominate the music scene in much of East Asia – culminating in international chart success for the likes of South Korea’s BTS.

MTU Career Fair Returns To Keweenaw | Michigan Tech News – Michigan Technological University https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/mtu-career-fair-returns-to-keweenaw-michigan-tech-news-michigan-technological-university/ Recruiters from more than 350 companies are headed to Michigan Technological University’s Career Fair this week — resuming an in-person event that fills local restaurants and hotels as well as open positions at their companies. Career Fair runs from 2-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21, in Michigan Tech’s Student Development Complex. Hundreds of follow-up interviews will take place around campus the following day and virtually afterward. The event is a major factor in Tech’s 93% average job placement rate within six months of graduation. There are no statistics on how many meals and memories will be shared, but it’s safe to say that lodging and dining establishments are rolling out the welcome mat for new and returning visitors. As of early September, hotels and most other lodging within two hours of the University were nearly fully booked, said Cody Kangas, executive director of corporate and foundation relations and acting director of Michigan Tech Career Services.  Career Services works year-round to help students land co-ops, internships and full-time jobs, offering programs for both Huskies and companies. Students are offered one-on-one training in essential skills. Tech’s biannual Career Fair, held in fall and spring, is where these practice interviews, resume-building sessions and industry outreach culminate in one of the largest events of its kind in the nation. It’s been two years since students trekked up MacInnes Drive to the Student Development Complex, decked out in their business best, to shake hands with their futures.  “Demand is unprecedented. Employers want to be here — they’re ready to come back,” said Kangas. Michigan Tech President Rick Koubek said the response reflects Michigan Tech’s excellence in building partnerships and preparing students for the job market.  “A degree from Michigan Tech is highly valued in the marketplace, as evidenced by the large number of employers attending the University’s Career Fair this year,” he said. “It’s this level of corporate engagement that helps differentiate the Michigan Tech student experience. That’s one of the many reasons we are delighted to welcome employers back to campus this week.” 400+  2,000  93%  Tech Events Have Regional Impact The most recent study of Michigan Tech’s impact on the state and regional economy occurred in 2016. It didn’t take visitor spending into account, but a new online visitor data dashboard developed by the Keweenaw Convention and Visitors Bureau (KCVB) does. Brad Barnett, KCVB executive director, said it’ll be interesting to compare figures for the time period of the in-person Career Fair to the past two years. Statistics are only available for the past three years, and are updated about every three months. In the meantime, he said, the qualitative data is clearly positive. “We’re excited for the return of Tech’s Career Fair, as it brings in visitors from across the country seeking to recruit our talented MTU students!”Brad Barnett, executive director, Keweenaw Convention and Visitors Bureau “Many recruiters are Tech alumni, so Career Fair gives them a chance to return to Houghton to patronize their favorite local restaurants and reminisce about days on campus,” said Barnett. “I know the downtown businesses are happy to see the return of in-person recruiting, along with other University events.” MTU Huskies Get Ready to Get Hired For recruiters, it’s a welcome trip to campus. For many students, it’s a new opportunity to meet employers face-to-face. Most current Huskies have only experienced the virtual version of Career Fair, a pandemic necessity the past two years. “For the vast majority of students attending Career Fair this week, it’s the first time they’ve been able to participate in person,” said Kangas. “The virtual fairs filled a critical need during what was a very stressful time, but there’s no overstating the importance of being able to meet potential employers face-to-face. It allows for connections and conversations that sometimes aren’t possible online.” Senior environmental engineering student Katie Peterson has experienced both event formats. Face-to-face wins hands down. “I went to fall Career Fair when I was a freshman,” she said. “A lot of people encouraged going, just to see what it was about. I talked to DTE; the recruiter was really nice. I was invited to a breakfast the next day to find out more about the company.” “It’s going to be really exciting to have that in-person experience again.”Katie Peterson ’23, senior environmental engineering student Making a first impression via video was more difficult, Peterson said. “Having a physical presence makes a lot of difference.” Peterson is one of Tech’s career coaches, working with fellow students to help them land co-ops, internships and full-time jobs. In the days leading up to Career Fair, she and other coaches help students polish resumes and interview skills. “A little bit of guidance goes a long way,” she said. “I’m glad we’re here to help.” Michigan Technological University is a public research university founded in 1885 in Houghton, Michigan, and is home to more than 7,000 students from 55 countries around the world. Consistently ranked among the best universities in the country for return on investment, Michigan’s flagship technological university offers more than 120 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in science and technology, engineering, computing, forestry, business and economics, health professions, humanities, mathematics, social sciences, and the arts. The rural campus is situated just miles from Lake Superior in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, offering year-round opportunities for outdoor adventure. average number of companies recruiting on campus each year recruiters looking to hire Huskies at bi-annual fairs average placement rate within six months of graduation Katie Peterson helps students with their resumes during a coaching session at Michigan Tech Career Services.  Career Fair 2019 included many of the essentials and features Huskies can expect this year, from connecting to companies they’re most interested in using a mobile app (Career Fair Plus), to a special appearance by the Huskies Pep Band.

VIETNAM BUSINESS NEWS SEPTEMBER 19 VietNamNet
VIETNAM BUSINESS NEWS SEPTEMBER 19 VietNamNet
VIETNAM BUSINESS NEWS SEPTEMBER 19 – VietNamNet https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/vietnam-business-news-september-19-vietnamnet/ The European Union (EU) will cut the import tax rate to 0% on Vietnamese rice-based products in the next 3-5 years, creating an opportunity for Vietnam to raise the competitiveness of its rice with other rice exporting countries. According to the Vietnam Trade Office in Belgium and the EU, the European Commission (EC) published the Official Journal, which contains Regulation (EU) 2022/1481 regarding the import duties applicable to certain types of husked rice imported to this market. The import duty for husked rice under the CN code 1006 20, other than husked basmati rice of the varieties referred to in Article 1 of the Commission Regulation (EC) No 972/2006, shall be 65 euro per ton. The regulation took effect as of September 8, 2022. Under the European Union–Vietnam Free Trade Agreement, the EU gives Vietnam an export quota of 80,000 tons of rice per annum, consisting of 30,000 tons of husked rice, 20,000 tons of wholegrain rice and 30,000 tons of fragrant rice. Vietnam’s broken rice will enjoy trade liberalization when it enters the EU, bringing the total estimated exports to 100,000 tons to the EU per annum. In addition to the advantages of the EVFTA, Vietnamese enterprises need to improve the rice quality and change their business approach to expand the market. Insurance companies urged to go digital soon Insurers should promote digital transformation rapidly as, compared to other financial industries, the insurance industry is considered to have slow digital transformation with limited economic efficiency. Despite efforts being made, the digital transformation of insurance companies is lagging, as most life insurance buyers still want to hold paper contracts instead of keeping them online and seeing them on mobile devices. Pham Thu Phuong, deputy director of the Ministry of Finance’s Insurance Supervision Authority (ISA), said the biggest challenge for insurance companies is an effective digital transformation strategy, as many companies, even foreign-invested ones, have not performed digitisation synchronously but only in some stages. According to Phuong, the economic efficiency of digital transformation of the insurance industry remains very limited. ISA’s statistics showed at present, the insurance revenue through digitised channels of the life insurance segment accounts for less than 5% of the total premium revenue of the market. The number of the non-life insurance segment is even lower at less than 1%. The digital transformation costs are not small while the insurance business relies on the majority and statistics in order to have correct premium calculation, therefore the more rapid, comprehensive and effective the digital transformation is, the more insurance companies gain. Thus, insurance companies need to develop strategies and calculate reasonable investment costs to promote digitisation effectively, Phuong noted. According to insurance companies, changing the habit of using technology in insurance activities is difficult, but the boom of digital transformation in life as well as the increasing number of young insurance customers are making it easier for users. Naren Baliga, Business Unit manager at Manulife Vietnam, told tinnhanhchungkhoan.vn that at first, when Manulife’s eClaims digitiser was first launched, many customers were not used to submitting documents online, but now, 95% of the insurance claims of Manulife Vietnam have been sent through this tool. For customers who are still using paper contracts, access to the benefits of electronic contracts as well as other paperless services is only a matter of time, Baliga said. EDU4.0 to take place in November The third Education Summit (EDU4.0) will be held for two days on November 25-26 in Hanoi. For the first time in the framework of EDU 4.0, the “Education Technology Award” will be presented. EDU4.0 is a specialised event in educational technology founded by BHub Group and organised annually starting from 2020. This year, EDU4.0 is co-organised by the Vietnam Psycho – Pedagogical Association, the Vietnam Digital Communication Association and BHub Group. The event aims to connect and promote the application of technology in education, as well as a place to share information, experiences and digital transformation solutions in the field of Education and Training in Vietnam. It is expected that more than 1,500 visitors will attend the event with 18 seminars and more than 40 exhibition booths from Vietnam, Australia, Finland, the UK, the Republic of Korea and more. ASEAN creates healthy competition environment for SMEs Heads of ASEAN member economies have agreed to create a mechanism to promote competition, create an environment conductive for regional SMEs to enter ASEAN amid economic recovery from COVID-19 crisis. Together with green, digital economy and synchronous development, the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) was under major discussions at the 54th ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting (AEM-54), said Cambodian Ministry of Commerce’s Undersecretary of State and Spokesman Penn Sovicheat at a press conference on September 18. Ministers shared the view that the effective performance of competition law will accelerate the process of carrying out digital economic policy, contributing to developing digital market and helping ASEAN SMEs operate in a transparent and healthy competition environment. The AEM-54 and related meetings with diverse agenda took place on September 11-18 in Siam Reap tourism city of Cambodia, host of ASEAN 2022. Over 220 stalls to open at Vietnam-China int’l trade fair The Vietnam – China International Trade Fair 2022 will take place in the northern border province of Lang Son from November 2-9. Co-hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency, the provincial Department of Industry and Trade and the provincial Centre for Industrial Encouragement and Trade Promotion, the event is within the framework of the 2022 National Programme on Trade Promotion and the Lang Son Trade Promotion Programme and celebrations for the 191st founding anniversary of the province. According to the organising board, the event is expected to attract over 100 exhibitors at home and abroad with over 220 stalls. In particular, 20 stalls will showcase the province’s key products, including One Commune, One Product and outstanding rural and industrial products. Canada gives conclusion on antidumping duty to oil country tubular product from Vietnam The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has issued a final conclusion of the anti-dumping investigation on oil country tubular goods (OCTG) imported from India, Taiwan (China), Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Thailand, Turkey and Vietnam, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT). According to the final conclusion, Canada applies an anti-dumping duty of 37.4% on the product from Vietnam and this rate is applied from September 6, 2022. The deadline for parties to file their claim regarding that decision is September 19. The CBSA has imposed an anti-dumping duty on OCTG imports from Vietnam and certain countries since March 2015, with a rate of 37.4% applied to Vietnamese exporters. Binh Duong seeks to promote cooperation with Cuba A delegation from the southern province of Binh Duong, led by Nguyen Hoang Thao, permanent deputy secretary of the provincial Party Committee, paid a working visit to Cuba from September 12 to 17. The delegation visited the province of Artemisa where it met local authorities and learned about the potential of this locality. On this occasion, the official proposed that Binh Duong and Artemisa establish friendly relations. The delegates also visited the Mariel Special Development Zone and met some Cuban companies. They had a meeting with Ángel Arzuaga, deputy head of the Department of International Relations of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, during which the two sides talked about the possibilities of expanding cooperation and mutual assistance. Within the framework of the visit, the Vietnamese delegation also offered flowers to President Ho Chi Minh at the park named after him in Havana; had working sessions with the Cuban Chamber of Commerce and leaders of Hermanos Ameijeiras Hospital and La Pradera International Health Care Center as well as sought investment opportunities with Labiofam Biotechnology Group – Cuba’s leading scientific and economic unit. On this occasion, Binh Duong province handed over cash donations worth 45,000 USD to the Department of International Relations of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Artemisa province, some schools, hospitals and units in Cuba. Evaluation of land prices – key to a transparent market A thematic session on accelerating institutional reform – perfecting land policy for socio-economic recovery and development, as part of the 2022 Vietnam Socio-Economic Forum, opened in Hanoi on September 18. Speaking at the event, deputy head of the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission Nguyen Thanh Phong said developing a transparent and convenient real estate market will bring opportunities to draw capital at home and abroad, thus propelling socio-economic development. Prof. Hoang Van Cuong, Vice Rector of the National Economics University, said land price mechanism for real estate development must be in accordance with the land market value. The selection of realty developers must also follow market mechanism. The State must directly engage in land reclamation and compensation for site clearance in its all approved projects, he said. Meanwhile, former Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Prof. Dang Hung Vo highlighted a need to add definition of market price under international standard into the revised Law on Land. He suggested furthe...

WVU Rushing Attack Too Much For Towson | News, Sports, Jobs – The Inter-Mountain https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/wvu-rushing-attack-too-much-for-towson-news-sports-jobs-the-inter-mountain/ MORGANTOWN (AP) — On a day when West Virginia held a ceremony to honor some of its greatest offensive players, the Mountaineers put together their best showing in a year. Tony Mathis rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns, CJ Donaldson ran for 101 yards and three scores, and West Virginia breezed to a 65-7 victory over Towson on Saturday. Although it didn’t quite make up for opening the season with close losses to No. 23 Pittsburgh and Kansas, West Virginia piled up 624 yards of offense, scored touchdowns on six of its seven first-half possessions and led its Championship Subdivision opponent 45-7 at halftime before pulling back with a short week before its next game. “Fun day,” said West Virginia coach Neal Brown. “These types of games are important. For the morale of your football team, they’re really important.” Johnson, a freshman, had his second 100-yard rushing effort of the season and pushed his TD total to six. He had just nine carries, an average of 11.2-yards per attempt. He also blocked a punt in the opener against Pitt. Most of his yards Saturday came on an 82-yard scoring run. Playing mostly on defense growing up, Donaldson came to West Virginia as a tight end but was quickly converted to running back and is still getting accustomed to his new role. “That’s my third game ever playing running back,” Donaldson said. “Today I kind of surprised myself with that long run.” Mathis exceeded his career total for touchdowns. He had one TD in 23 previous games. West Virginia (1-2) had 316 rushing yards. Its six rushing touchdowns were the most since it had seven both against Connecticut and Western Michigan in 2007. And yet Mathis felt it wasn’t a perfect game from the backfield. “Still a lot left. You can always get better every game,” he said. West Virginia’s JT Daniels completed 16 of 24 passes for 174 yards in the first half, including a 2-yard TD pass to Kaden Prather. Daniels was replaced by Garrett Greene, Will Crowder and Nicco Marchiol in the second half. Numerous other players saw their first significant action on both sides of the ball for West Virginia, including wide receivers Cortez Braham and Jeremiah Aaron. Braham had five catches for 60 yards and Aaron caught four passes for 29 yards, including his first career TD catch, a 5-yarder from Crowder in the fourth quarter. Redshirt freshman Preston Fox caught a 26-yard TD from Marchiol to close the scoring. Today’s breaking news and more in your inbox

PolkStation – One Stop For IDO/INO/IGO & Metaverse And Multi Defi Protocols – Coinpedia Fintech News https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/polkstation-one-stop-for-ido-ino-igo-metaverse-and-multi-defi-protocols-coinpedia-fintech-news/ Polkastation combines various DeFi protocols, NFT minting, and marketplace with the Polkadot framework as its base. Though early blockchains serve the purpose of deploying decentralized applications, there are limitations like lack of run-time specialization and limited throughput.  Polkastation wants to deliver a cutting-edge project in the blockchain space and thus chooses Polkadot, bridging multiple specialized chains into one sharded network. Polkadot offers the best returns in the market through various products. As these decentralized applications are deployed on Polkastation’s own blockchains, they have enhanced stability. PolkaStation Ecosystem Live Dapps: PolkaSwap:  Polkastation’s swap allows the instant exchange of two non-native tokens of two different blockchain protocols without any centralized cryptocurrency exchanges. Instead, the operations are decentralized, fueled by smart contracts. Polkastation’s swap also allows the users to add liquidity to pools. You can add your POLKA tokens to the liquidity pools in return for LP tokens. These LP tokens represent your contribution to the addition of liquidity, and you will be rewarded accordingly. NFT Space: Polkastation has an entire NFT ecosystem that facilitates the users to mint their artworks into NFTs, display them in their creator profiles, and make money by selling them on the NFT marketplace. One must need an artist account to create and sell NFTs in the Polkastation NFT marketplace. When a buyer makes an auction to buy your NFTs, the order will be stacked in the order book and executed. With Polkastation, your NFTs need not sit idle in the wallets. Polkastaion allows users to attach their NFTs to the NFT staking protocol in exchange for staking rewards. So, you can earn extra rewards for your NFTs while you still remain the owner. Farming:  The Polkastation AMM engine eliminates the need for intermediaries to carry out trades with the help of farms. Instead, the liquidity providers add LP tokens to the investment pools and get rewarded through yield farming. To enhance liquidity and make an asset a lucrative trade, Polkastation holds the investors’ funds. The period when a liquidity provider waits for the asset’s price to go up is yield farming. IDO Staking Pools:  Polkastation’s IDO staking pool is the easiest way of earning more POLKAS tokens. Two different pools allow you to stake POLKAS and earn POLKAS in return. The first POLKAS-POLKAS pool has a locking period of 30 days and offers an APR of 30%, while the second pool has a threshold lock-in of 60 days and a 50% APR. LaunchStation: Polkastation offers two different fundraising mechanisms, the INO and IDO. Initial NFT Offerings helps projects with innovative ideas to reach a broader and up-to-date web3 community. It helps the projects raise funds with seamless access to instant liquidity before they are functional in the market. The projects can run IDO on Polkastation after the vetting schedule process. They can offer their project tokens for a fixed price, and Polkastation allows users to lock their funds in return for the tokens. Polkastation then distributes the tokens to the investors with the help of smart contracts during the token generation event (TGE). Yield Aggregator: With hundreds of yield farms on the market daily, keeping track of the best-performing ones is tedious. If so, we can track a few; they are not accessible from a single point. To solve this problem, Polkstation has developed a Yield Aggregator to collate multiple best-performing farms in a single place. Polkastation hunts for yield optimization and secures farms in the market to help its community members maximize the yield. PolkaStation (POLKAS) is a Binance smart chain Bep20 token that is solely focused on providing holders with long-term holding benefits through staking, investment opportunity in their foundation and real use case for the entire ecosystem. More Boo In CO2 – Energy Institute Blog – Energy Institute At Haas https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/more-boo-in-co2-energy-institute-blog-energy-institute-at-haas/ A new paper suggests Carbon Dioxide causes thrice the damages previously used by the US government.  The third floor of the newly seismically retrofitted Giannini Hall at Berkeley is an awesome place to be, if you care about one of the more obscure numbers in existence: The Social Cost of Carbon. The SCC is the damage one ton of CO2 does over its long lifetime across all sectors and the entire planet. The sheer number of nerds obsessed with how this number is calculated, permanently located or visiting this single hallway makes it a super fun place to be – for those nerds. The level of excitement in response to the release of a new paper led by the younger German economist on this floor was significantly higher than when the Warriors deservedly won the NBA championship last year. Sorry Boston, but you know it’s true.  One of the biggest contributions (at least I think so) of economists to public policy is the required application of Benefit Cost analysis for a significant share of federal regulations since the 1970s (or 1993 depending on how you feel). If federal agencies want to impose a new regulation, often they have to show as part of a regulatory impact analysis that the benefits of the regulation (e.g. avoided pollution damages from lower energy consumption due to energy efficiency rules) are greater than the costs (higher cost of manufacturing said more efficient gadgets).  Since basically every human activity causes some greenhouse gas emissions, the damage a ton of CO2 does is key. There is a long history of using this number going back to the Bush II presidency when NHTSA, EPA and DOE applied three very different numbers for the same gas emitted. During the Obama presidency an interagency working group produced an official number, which was then $42 per ton emitted in 2020 using a 3% discount rate.  Let’s skip the bad economics that happened under President Trump. President Biden in the first month in office put in place a slightly updated SCC, which was $52/ton and ordered a significant update, which was supposed to take into account the suggested improvements by the National Academies of Science and Engineering.  The new paper by led by David Anthoff and Kevin Rennert presents the results of this immense amount of work conducted mostly during the Trump years with a team organized out of RFF composed of a team of future all stars (shoutout to Frank Errickson,  Lisa Rennels and Cora Kingdon) and current all stars (who do not need a shoutout). Because we have all read the Lord of the Rings too many times, the global press focused on the number that rules them all: The new central estimate of $185 per ton of CO2 which is more than thrice the current number (at a 2% risk free rate used to discount). Extra, extra, read all about it! Bigger numbers! Yuge! RaRaRa. Sure. But here is what I love about this paper: It lives in the light. I mean it’s all open source. If you can program in Julia (which you can learn in a weekend if you know some Python or R) you can modify the model in any way your  little heart desires. You can add stuff. Subtract stuff. Change stuff. Make it yours in any way you want. While Richard Tol will remind me that the great grandparents of the new model (DICE and FUND) also lived out in the open and that Fran Moore (currently in the White House)dragged the third (PAGE) into the light, I would like to remind us that most of the components of these older models were calibrated when Counting Crows were topping the charts. Counting who? Exactly.  The damage functions are updated and account for some adaptation. There are four sectors in the model: agriculture, energy, sea level rise and mortality. The damage functions, which translate a changed climate into changed welfare have been at the focus of the recent empirical economics literature and this effort draws heavily from this literature (the Climate Impact Lab at Berkeley/Chicago/Rhodium/Rutgers has a parallel effort with a different approach). Why does this matter? For some of the older models, the damages on the agricultural and energy sectors were not consistent with the most recent literature. The update changed the relative contributions of these sectors.  The paper makes a significant update to discounting. I am not going to get into the technicalities here, but there are two things. First the paper employs a 2% risk free rate, which is lower than the lowest rate used before and is consistent with recent peer review top journal yadda yadda expert elicitation. The second update is that discounting now takes into account the rate of economic growth, which is key if you are a Ramsey kind of person (sorry for the nerd lingo) and care about pricing risk correctly .  The coolest thing however, IMHO, is the full characterization of uncertainty. Soup to Nuts. These models require many things. The first thing you need is future emissions based on income and population assumptions. In the old days we just put together a handful of scenarios that seemed reasonable and did not really attach probabilities to earths with different levels of wealth and population. This paper went bonkers on this by combining some cool new econometrics on really long run forecasts with expert elicitation to characterize future states of the economy probabilistically! This sounds straightforward, but it’s not and this alone would have been a major step forward.   They do not stop there. The authors update the climate model to reflect current scientific understanding, a damage component and a discounting module. Each of these has its own source of uncertainty – some related to assumptions about the future, some related to assumptions about parameters. But this new model (GIVE) allows us to take into account the change in uncertainty and translates this into a distribution of the SCC taking these different sources of uncertainty into account. So. Flipping. Cool.  There is a bunch of other neat stuff in here. And some Debbie or Donald Downers in the comments and on twitter are gonna spread some hate with respect to what the authors should have done to satisfy their own priors. But. I am going to put a few things out there that we should push hard on to better characterize the social cost of carbon.  There are literally hundreds of sectors out there possibly affected by climate change. This model contains four. Granted these are probably the most climate sensitive ones we know something about. Yet, I want us to push hard on non-market and non-market”ish” damages like species loss, forests, water availability, conflict, migration. There are some really cool folks like Hannah Druckenmiller working on these issues, but this is an all hands on deck kind of situation. Get to it.  I still do not understand why we do not put the equity weighted Social Cost of Carbon center stage? We keep on talking about environmental justice, like we know what we are talking about and care, and then we focus on the non-equity weighted number. I have written about this before and my inbox was full of “Woah. This is cool. How do I do that?” We know that the Germans use an equity weighted SCC, which David Anthoff was involved in calculating. So I really hope that David will not get distracted by the disaster that is currently unfolding in our favorite Fussball Team and provide us with an equity weighting module.  We have little to no handle on fat tail risks (really big catastrophic events with non-zero probabilities. Pick your poison.) I continue to think that we may want to contemplate some “Weitzman disclaimer” to any SCC we deploy in Benefit Cost Analysis. To quote one of my heroes from his superb 2009 paper: “Perhaps in the end the climate-change economist can help most by not presenting a cost-benefit estimate for what is inherently a fat-tailed situation with potentially unlimited downside exposure as if it is accurate and objective? […] Even just acknowledging more openly the incredible magnitude of the deep structural uncertainties that are involved in climate-change analysis and explaining better to policymakers that the artificial crispness conveyed by conventional IAM-based CBAs here is especially and unusually misleading compared with more ordinary non-climate change CBA situations might go a long way toward elevating the level of public discourse concerning what to do about global warming.”  This last point is what keeps me awake at night. A graduate student walked into my office and asked me “How do I model and learn about something that has not happened in the past but might happen in the future?” Our friends in climate science have literally spent billions of dollars on this question. We economists in the climate landscape have mostly focused on learning from measurable things in the rearview mirror, which is what the toolkit-du-jour is geared towards. But I worry that in a world without the great Marty Weitzman in it, we are not sufficiently nudged to encourage this graduate student and her peers to pursue these all important questions.  Maximilian Auffhammer View All Maximilian Auffhammer is the George Pardee Professor of International Sustainable Development at the University of California Berkeley. His fields of expertise are environmental and energy economics, with a specific focus on the impacts and regulation of climate change and air pollution.

Top 5 Coins That Pay Crypto Dividends Cryptonews
Top 5 Coins That Pay Crypto Dividends Cryptonews
Top 5 Coins That Pay Crypto Dividends – Cryptonews https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/top-5-coins-that-pay-crypto-dividends-cryptonews/ In the traditional sense, a dividend is a distribution of profits from a company’s stock or debt to its shareholders. Now, you may wonder, can cryptocurrencies then pay dividends? Surprisingly, the same concept also exists in the global crypto asset markets.   Read on to learn more about crypto dividends and discover a list of top cryptocurrencies that pay dividends. What Are Crypto Dividends? Crypto dividends are a form of profit sharing that is paid to investors as part of a cryptocurrency project’s revenue or fees. In most cases, crypto dividends are offered as an incentive for supporting a project’s development and growth by holding onto the project’s native currency. In traditional finance, dividends are paid out to shareholders based on the number of shares owned by them in a company. The same goes for the cryptocurrency industry. Token holders earn rewards – akin to dividends – in relation to the number of tokens they hold.  Dividend-paying cryptocurrencies typically pay out automatically, so investors aren’t required to perform a specific action. This is usually the case for exchange tokens that pay token holders a share of revenues or trading fees. Conversely, some cryptocurrencies that pay rewards require you to hold your tokens in a specific wallet to receive the rewards.  Top Cryptocurrencies That Pay Dividends Now let’s take a look at five popular dividend-paying coins you could invest in today.  AscendEX (ASD) AscendEX, previously known as BitMax, is a centralized cryptocurrency exchange based in Singapore. The ecosystem is fueled by the ASD token, which is an ERC-20 token. By holding ASD, investors can earn dividends in the form of automatic airdrops. The platform has a tiered reward system that allows users to earn more rewards by holding more ASD tokens.  AscendX pays dividends by using a staking system that lets users earn up to 50% of the network’s total profits. In other words, if your investment grows by 10%, you’ll get paid out 50% of that growth. The other half goes back into the network, which means that if your investment shrinks by 10%, you’ll still get half of what used to be there! The dividend payment is calculated using the following formula: (Total Bid Volume/Accumulated Volume) x 50% + 0.1%. Furthermore, users can purchase AscendEX’s ASD Investment Multiple Card, which can be used to earn even more rewards. Bibox (BIX) Bibox is a digital asset exchange that was launched in 2017 in China. It offers a wide range of trading options and features, including trade, storage, and wallet services. Bibox has its native token called BIX, which is an ERC20 token. You can buy and sell BIX in Bibox’s online exchange or through the exchange’s mobile app. The main goal of the project is to provide users with an easy way to buy and sell crypto assets from within the app. In addition, it allows users to enjoy low transaction fees and fast withdrawals. To earn dividends (staking rewards) in Bibox, you need to lock 500 BIX tokens in your account and trade at least once per week. By completing these tasks, you will receive a percentage of all trading fees generated by your account as a reward, with an APR of around 8%. KuCoin (KCS) KuCoin is a popular cryptocurrency exchange based in Hong Kong that was launched in September 2017. In addition to this deep liquidity, the exchange has also been praised for its fast transaction speeds, user-friendly interface, and easy-to-use platform. KuCoin offers a wide range of cryptocurrencies and trading pairs for its users. It also pays daily dividends to its holders in its native Kucoin Token (KCS). The daily dividends are issued from 50% of all the fees collected from users on KuCoin. The KuCoin token (KCS) is an ERC20 token that runs on the Ethereum blockchain. KCS holders earn dividends by staking their tokens on the platform. The daily rewards amount to an average of 5.59% annual returns. The more tokens you hold on KuCoin, the higher percentage of your earnings will be returned as staking rewards. This is a unique feature that sets KuCoin apart from many other exchanges.  In addition, it also offers users the chance to vote on new listings and promotions through their KCS holdings. The more tokens you hold, the more voting power you have. NEO (NEO) Previously known as AntShares, NEO is a blockchain platform that allows you to issue your digital assets or “smart contracts”, and trade them on the NEO platform. The platform also offers a set of developer tools that allow users to build their smart contracts and decentralized applications (DApps). As a result, it is also called the “Chinese Ethereum.”  The NEO ecosystem is powered by GAS, which is an internal currency that can be used to pay for transaction fees and also reward staking/holding tokens in wallets over time (dividends). GAS is distributed according to how long you hold your NEO tokens; you get more if you hold them for longer periods. As it stands, you receive 0.0003 GAS per day for every NEO you hold. This amounts to an annual return of about 2%. Note that the GAS in NEO is its native token and is different from the gas fees usually paid in Ethereum.  VeChain (VET) VeChain is a blockchain project that was founded in 2015. It is a platform for smart contracts, similar to Ethereum and NEO. The project boasts of an eco-friendly and robust blockchain ecosystem. The native coin of this project is VET, which is an ERC20 token on the Ethereum network. By holding the VET token in your wallet, you will be rewarded using VTHOR coins, another native token in the VeChain ecosystem.  Dividends are paid out quarterly and depend on how much you’ve staked. Currently, the payout rates for staking 1 VET stand at 0.00042 VTHORs, which translates to an APR of 1.4%. Conclusion So, does crypto pay dividends? The answer is yes! Although technically, by definition, they aren’t actually dividends. Instead, they are rewards paid out in cryptocurrency.  If you want to generate passive income from your crypto investments, any of these five options could work for you.

Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said: “We have stated many times that we are ready for negotiations to resolve the fate of U.S. citizens convicted in Russia and Russian citizens in the U.S.” Russia has previously suggested that it is open to a prisoner exchange which could include U.S. Marine Corps veteran Paul Whelan, basketball star Brittney Griner and Viktor Bout, a Russian arms dealer jailed in the United States. U.S. President Joe Biden met the families of Whelan and Griner at the White House on Friday, with press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre saying that the administration is committed to “working through all available avenues to bring Brittney and Paul home safely”. The Kremlin has repeatedly said that what it called “megaphone diplomacy” from Washington would not help efforts to organise a prisoner exchange, urging closed talks instead. New Artificial Intelligence Recycling Technology Can Sort Plastics On Its Own – H2 News – Hydrogen News – Green Hydrogen Report https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/new-artificial-intelligence-recycling-technology-can-sort-plastics-on-its-own-h2-news-hydrogen-news-green-hydrogen-report/ The AI is meant to help the world overcome its struggle with sending recyclable plastics to landfills. New recycling technology has been developed using artificial intelligence to help programs to sort plastics effectively and affordably in order to stop recyclable materials from being sent to landfills. Only a portion of the plastics people separate from their trash actually avoids landfills. Even though many people with municipal programs carefully sort through their waste, much of the plastic they think is being recycled is still finding its way to the landfill. Among the biggest problems is that once the trash has been collected, the individual plastics must still be sorted. On a massive scale and with cost as a concern, recycling technology has not reached the point that many plastics will end up anywhere but in a landfill. Without proper quick and easy sorting, it becomes difficult, slow, and expensive to try to process all the recycled materials. It becomes impossible to keep up with the incoming waste to be sorted and very expensive when much of it must be accomplished by hand. Failing to do so and mixing the wrong plastics means that the remade plastics will be flawed and will not perform as needed, wasting the entire batch as well as the energy and resources required to produce it. Using AI recycling technology may help to overcome this challenge and boost program efficiency. “The recycling process is quite complicated. If you go to the supermarket or for the daily recycling you need to know how to properly place all the recyclable (items), like bottles or others, into the right bins. You need to know the labels, know the icons,” explained University of Technology Sydney School of Electrical and Data Engineering’s Dr. Xu Wang. This being the case, Dr. Wang led a team of the university’s researchers from the Global Big Data Technologies Centre (GBDTC) in the development of a “smart bin capable of automatically sorting the plastics it receives. The bin uses a spectrum of different forms of recycling technology including robotics, machine vision and artificial intelligence. “This machine can classify different (types) of waste including glasses, metal cans and plastics,” explained Wang. This includes the different forms of plastics including PET and HDPE.

New Court Ruling Favors Edmond Police Officer Who Shot And Killed Black Teen In 2019 – KFOR Oklahoma City https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/new-court-ruling-favors-edmond-police-officer-who-shot-and-killed-black-teen-in-2019-kfor-oklahoma-city/ OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – After a two year battle, a new ruling has been made in a case KFOR has been following since 2019. An appeal court has made a decision Friday regarding the shooting death of a black teenager by Edmond Police. The appeals court ruling could end a federal lawsuit which was filed by the parents.   According to court documents, a three-judge panel of the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver backed an Edmond police officer who shot and killed Isaiah Lewis. The court ruled in favor of the officer saying he is “entitled to qualified immunity.” That means the officer did not violate Isaiah Lewis’s rights.   Lewis was shot and killed after police say he was acting erratically, running naked and unarmed through the street, hopping over fences, and breaking into a house.  Officers said they tased Lewis and then shot him after a fight broke out between Lewis and responding officers. They say Lewis was attacking them.  Court documents showed Officer Denton Scherman shot Lewis four times and a fifth shot was missed. Lewis died as a result of his wounds.   On April 28, 2019, officials with the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office said that Isaiah Lewis’ girlfriend and family members noted that he was not acting like himself.  The family has not commented yet on the ruling but, in an interview with the family shortly after his death, Lewis’s mother said it was uncalled for.   “He was not armed; he didn’t deserve to die the want that he did. He didn’t deserve to die period… They don’t get to assassinate my son’s character,” said Vicki Lewis, Isaiah Lewis’s mother.   Back in 2019, Edmond Police said they were forced to shoot.   “Both officers were violently assaulted in this confrontation inside the house… After the fact at the scene, it was seen they both were visibly injured,” said Jenny Wagnon, Edmond Police Department.  Ultimately, Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater determined that the officers’ actions were justified in shooting Lewis.  Lewis’ family  filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the City of Edmond and its officers.  The lawsuit alleged that the officers violated Lewis’ civil rights by killing him. But now after Friday’s ruling, it could mean an end to the federal lawsuit.   If Lewis’s parents’ attorneys decide to ask the full appeals court to reconsider the ruling, and they do, a new judgement can be issued.   According to the toxicology report, Lewis had diphenhydramine (Benadryl) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in his system when he died.  Clear the Shelters Latest News Oklahoma Tornado Coverage Technology Abortion Battle Ukraine Crisis Coronavirus KFOR In-Studio Guests Made in Oklahoma: Sheet pan fajitas Down Syndrome medical complications and advances … OKCPS $1B bond on the ballot November 8 Preventing and treating ‘tech neck’ Money Mondays: How to manage financial risk 4 the Weekend: The Butterfly Papilion in Muskogee’s … Strategies to limit the risk of lightning damage … 4 Seniors: How and when the Inflation Reduction Act … 4 the Weekend: Art and history shine at renovated … MIO: Meatball subs with 5-minute marinara Ideas to add fun and variety to date night The oral warning signs of monkeypox 4 the Weekend: Dragon boat racing at Riversport Strategies to prevent lower back pain 4 Seniors: How to hire an in-home helper for an aging … The victories and struggles of sports legend Jim … Made In Oklahoma: Milo’s sweet tea brisket tacos Pros and cons of adjustable rate mortgages The rise of “Jackhammer” parents Pay it 4Ward National News Washington D.C. Restaurants V The Cost Of Living Crisis: How Will They Cope? – The Guardian https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/restaurants-v-the-cost-of-living-crisis-how-will-they-cope-the-guardian/ On Saturday 20 August, Bristol’s Casamia restaurant finished its final service after 23 years in business. “I’m 36 and most of my life has been Casamia,” says the chef-owner, Peter Sanchez-Iglesias, who, with his brother Jonray, turned what was previously their parents’ suburban Italian into a Michelin-starred destination. “But with my brother [who died in 2015, aged 32], I know life is short. Things can be taken away from you quickly and I’m not going to keep Casamia just to boost my ego. Nothing lasts for ever.” Pre-pandemic, Casamia was “just breaking even”, struggling to hit the industry standard gross profit margin of 70%. That is not unknown in fine dining. Such labour-intensive treatment of costly ingredients for small numbers of guests is a financially precarious form of self-expression. In the summer of 2020, Casamia underwent a “bold” relaunch intended to enhance its cutting-edge reputation and secure its future. Restyled as a dark, modish cocoon of loud music, lights and visuals, the dinner price increased from £119 to £180 (wine flight, £120), and to create a better work-life balance for staff services were cut to two lunch and three dinner sittings, running Thursday to Saturday. The plan was to make theatrical, 25-course menus of potato tempura, black garlic mayonnaise and pickled black garlic, or apple tart with smoked ice-cream, for just 16 people per service financially viable. “We wanted more exciting food, to expand the ingredient selection and hit 70%,” says Sanchez-Iglesias, who encouraged the use of, for example, langoustines and sea urchins. “There shouldn’t be many boundaries in doing something creative. Because of the price, we should give everything to customers. I don’t want to be held back.” For most of 2021, this reinvention worked. Pent-up pandemic demand exploded and Casamia, led by chef Zak Hitchman, was “super, super, super busy”. That faded abruptly last winter. Christmas was disrupted by Omicron and in February the war in Ukraine began, meaning already rising fuel and food prices suddenly rocketed. A significant chunk of Casamia’s target audience began to think twice about blowing money on eating out. Sanchez-Iglesias was seeing occasional empty tables in the evenings, and worse. “We would have the odd Friday lunch where it was just two people booked.” Casamia – which, in 2016, moved to Bristol’s regenerated harbour – had good weeks, but too many where it lost money, sometimes £200, £500 or even £1,000. “We can’t charge more,” says Sanchez-Iglesias. Reducing the price or adding more covers was not feasible. The situation was “getting worse and worse”. In May, Sanchez-Iglesias announced Casamia would close and the site reopen as a new Italian restaurant. He hopes this trattoria will replicate the success of his other Michelin-starred restaurant, Paco Tapas, a bigger, busy, more casual operation with flexible pricing. “You change or close,” says Sanchez-Iglesias. Larger fine-dining restaurants may “still make business sense with a 10%, 15% drop-off; every business is unique”. But with diners reining in spending, and energy and food costs spiking, smaller, niche restaurants are on a knife-edge. This is, says Sanchez-Iglesias, “the scariest it’s been since the 2008 recession. The whole industry at that level is under threat.” Others are less gloomy. “Luckily, we’re fully booked and people are spending better than ever. We’ve increased prices but guests don’t seem fazed,” says one London restaurateur, anonymously lest they seem “arrogant”. That owner operates in a rarefied world of bills of £300-£500 a head. But word has it business in London is mostly robust. For six weeks earlier this summer, Ed Thaw had to close at lunch on Tuesdays and reduce midweek covers at his Shoreditch restaurant, Leroy. But only because he lacked staff. “There’s plenty of custom but everyone is struggling with recruitment.” Last month’s trading update from D&D London, which operates more than 40 restaurants worldwide, was upbeat while noting an “uncertain economic backdrop”. Significant cost inflation (about 10% a year) has been “compensated by increased average spends” – and not just in London. D&D highlighted its Manchester and Leeds restaurants as strong performers. Such contradictory experiences are standard in hospitality. D&D’s buying power and marketing reach is very different to that of a small independent restaurant, and the experience can vary significantly. If one restaurant agreed a fixed, three-year energy contract in 2021, it will be far better placed than its neighbour who renewed this year, doubling or tripling its bill. One chef, who preferred not to be named, told me they had mothballed a new restaurant until spring 2023 after the annual electricity bill at an existing smaller site leapt from £3,500 to £11,500. “Winter will be quiet and expensive. If you can wait, why wouldn’t you?” Stark warnings of closures abound. The British Institute of Innkeeping has said energy bills could destroy many pubs. Businesses in big, draughty buildings that may make £50,000 annually (profits that owner-operators of small businesses often use to pay their “salaries”, as dividends) could see that profit disappear in gas and electricity costs. Procurement manager Regency Purchasing Group has warned of “hundreds of businesses forward-planning closures”, as energy contracts come up for renewal. Arguably, the fallout has started. In July, the accountants UHY Hacker Young reported restaurant insolvencies had risen 64% year on year. Last month, it calculated that a record 60% of the UK’s top 100 restaurants are making a loss. Some owners of healthy, successful businesses are opting out of this turmoil. In March, Aimee Turford and Alisdair Brooke-Taylor, who run the Moorcock Inn in Norland, West Yorkshire, announced that instead of renewing their lease they will leave the pub in January. The Moorcock is busy and acclaimed for its wood-fired, foraged and fermented food, but still reeling from the pandemic slog, enough was enough. “It was clear things were going to get worse before they got better,” says Turford. The Moorcock has been packed since. “We’re very lucky that people are turning out,” says Turford. “Businesses I like have announced they are closing. Many friends are scared about the near future. These places deserve to be open. It’s not that their business model wasn’t good. There’s an avalanche of circumstances beyond their control forcing them into closure.” Mapping the contours of that avalanche can be bewildering. We understand energy costs, but the way rising oil, gas and chemical prices contribute to increased food production costs – from transport and fertiliser to heating for barns and even the CO2 used to kill poultry – is an eye-opener for most diners. Fruit, dairy and fats are up more than 20% year on year. Chefs report crazy numbers: butter is up 50%, lamb neck has almost doubled in price. Photograph: Romas Foord/The Observer The cost of animal feed, particularly grain-based feeds for poultry and pigs, has risen sharply due to the war in Ukraine. Poultry feed has shot up 70% since 2020, says the National Farmers Union. The Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board reports cattle prices are at record highs and sheep are selling at “significantly above the five-year average”. Pig prices surged in spring yet, incredibly, “have not reached the point where they cover estimated cost of production”. James Swift, owner of Monmouthshire charcuterie business Trealy Farm, says pig farmers are “falling by the wayside, left, right and centre”. In June, the CGA Prestige food-service index recorded a fifth month of double-digit inflation in ingredient costs, with fruit, dairy and fats up more than 20% year on year. Chefs report crazier numbers: butter up 50%, lamb neck almost doubling in price. “It’s not just food costs,” says Turford. “It’s printer ink, paper for menus, plumber callouts, napkins. Every aspect has gone up.” And then there’s staff costs. For too long the restaurant industry was sustained by cheap credit and cheap labour. Now, experienced staff are scarce and wages are rising fast. No one objects to that, at least not publicly, but it is another cost to absorb. From talking to owners, payroll is one of the most significant pressures, says Joe Lutrario, the deputy editor at industry website Big Hospitality. “Wage bills are spiralling and cutting into [profit] margins.” Given the multitude of problems, the industry has been urging the government to intervene. And it has now announced a six-month scheme offering “equivalent support” to what households will receive with further unspecified help beyond that for “vulnerable industries”, which should include hospitality. Of the people I spoke to for this feature, before Liz Truss became prime minister, some called for a cap on commercial energy tariffs. To ease cashflow, almost everyone would like the Treasury to reduce the 20% VAT rate on restaurant sales, as it did during the pandemic. “It blows my mind there isn’t a break, given the pressures are probably greater,” says Alex Rushmer, co-chef-owner of Cambridge’s Vanderlyle. Hospitality is gearing up to fight. “By definition, you’re an optimist if you’re in hospitality or you wouldn’t open a business,” says Candice Fonseca, owner of the award-winning Liverpool foodhall and restaurant, Delifonseca. After the pressures of Brexit and Covid, she views the current situation as “a cosmic joke”. Like many owners in the past two years, Fonseca has proven adept at overcoming challenging times. For example, Delifonseca has significantly expanded its corporate catering. “I’ll find a way to make my bits of business add up to something that works,” she says. In July, McDonald’s crystalised the mo...

The Rabbits went on to win 15-9 and head coach of the Rabbits Barb Johnson spoke on the team’s invitational performance. “I thought we had a very good tournament,” Johnson said. “We only lost three sets all day and that was against very good teams. Overall, I was happy with our play today.” Johnson added she wanted to focus on the positives for her team and reiterate to her team that they only dropped three sets in five matches. She wants her team to understand who they played and how well they’re playing. Audrey Johnson led the team in digs with 66 for the tournament and also had nine assists. Banks Have Lost The Plot On Metaverse Analytics India Magazine
Banks Have Lost The ‘Plot’ On Metaverse – Analytics India Magazine https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/banks-have-lost-the-plot-on-metaverse-analytics-india-magazine/ On February 17, JP Morgan became the first bank to enter the metaverse. The largest bank in the US opened a virtual lounge on Decentraland, a metaverse built on the Ethereum blockchain, called Onyx. Set up in Metajuku district, it virtually mimicked the Harajuku shopping district in Tokyo. Anyone entering the lounge was greeted by a prowling tiger and a digital portrait of Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan that was lit up.  The move was a plain marketing ploy to create hype about the bank’s crypto and blockchain service with the namesake. Along with the announcement, JP Morgan released a report on the metaverse describing it as a money-maker that could generate no less than USD 1 trillion every year. In a segment discussing its skin in the game, JP Morgan stated, “We are building and scaling new emerging technologies to modernize infrastructure and business models including but not limited to tokenization and digital identity, as we strive for perpetual innovation and better ways to organize financial transactions and payments in the decentralized web.” Sign up for your weekly dose of what’s up in emerging technology. JP Morgan’s Onyx virtual lounge on the metaverse Herding to the metaverse Soon after this, other banks and institutional investors followed suit. In March, the UK-based financial services provider, HSBC Bank, bought virtual real estate on the decentralised gaming virtual world, The Sandbox. In a statement to the press, the chief marketing officer of HSBC Asia-Pacific, Suresh Balaji said that the partnership had “great potential” in creating “new experiences through emerging platforms”. Aside from the statement, HSBC posted a promotional GIF showing the HSBC stadium next to a virtual body of water on the metaverse. No other details apart from the statement were released.  Worried about losing first-mover advantage, Indian banks queued up to join the metaverse. By July, the Union Bank of India, or UBI, launched its own version of the Metaverse Virtual Lounge like JP Morgan, called ‘Uni-verse’, as well as an Open Banking Sandbox environment. In the initial phase, UBI said that ‘Uni-verse’ would store information about the bank’s products and instructional videos.   In a statement released to the public, UBI stated that customers can roam around the virtual lounge, get details about the bank’s loans and deposits or government welfare schemes, and other digital initiatives. However, chief technology officer of the bank, Rajiv Mishra explicitly stated that the bank would not “move into the new phase where transactions and other services can be provided” due to regulatory constraints.  HSBC became the first Global Financial Services provider in The Sandbox, Source: Medium Is there an added value?  With all these announcements, there was a common thread running through them. Each one of them mentions “innovative customer experiences” without explaining much. None of them really offered clarity around what exactly customers may be able to do in the metaverse besides visiting a virtual lounge that looked bare bones. As the initial excitement around virtual exploration passes, banks seem to have been exposed—in that their metaverse promises at the moment look very empty.  Theo Priestly, CEO of cloud-based, game economy infrastructure platform, Metanomic questioned the motives behind the banking industry’s presence in the metaverse in a LinkedIn post. “It’s very much a case of ‘you were so preoccupied with whether or not you could, that you didn’t stop to think if you should,” he stated. Describing banks’ recent work on the metaverse as bland, Priestly said, “If you really wanted to create something then partner with Hasbro and build an immersive Game Of Life – Banking Edition experience that leads would-be customers on a financial and educational journey about money.” Instead of just promising innovative experiences, banks could really work on creating them. “Make it fun. Don’t build a bloody bank branch with a poorly animated tiger and expect people to engage it in,” he added.  Metaverse real estate prices rise by 700% in 2021, Source: Forbes Studies have also found that besides not adding anything of real value to customers, users also did not find these virtual banks very user-friendly. A Razorfish study noted that even GenZ gamers, who anyway spent a considerable amount of time in the metaverse, did not feel comfortable within these immersive experiences.  A partner at consulting firm Capco, Sandeep Vishnu spoke to ‘Banking Dive’ stating that while the banking industry can’t afford to opt out of the metaverse race, investing in it may not be the appropriate move for all financial institutions. “Banks need to consider their target demographic when considering how involved they want to be in the space,” he noted. Quite naturally, for a bank that caters to an older customer base, the metaverse may not quite sound like the promised land. “If you don’t have the customer base to serve in this interaction model, are you going to pivot and try to draw in a new set of customers? I think this has to be tied very much to the bank’s overall strategy and not be a one off,” he added. Like many others, banks too have launched avatar creation services and several marketplaces to buy NFTs but in the absence of interoperability, there is nowhere else to take them. JP Morgan report on ‘Opportunities in the metaverse’ Lured in by the endless possibilities of the metaverse, other institutional investors too have spent millions on buying land in the metaverse. Hong Kong’s Price Waterhouse Cooper (PwC) office also purchased a LAND in Sandbox for USD 10,000. A CNBC report stated that a house in real life costs approximately USD 2,80,000 (USD 287,148 to be exact). Coincidentally, this is the same as buying a virtual piece of land in the metaverse in an upwardly mobile society. This would mean that banks are spending a lot of real money to acquire virtual land to replicate the same experiences for users, virtually. Will these hollow advertisements on a virtual land with hyped value amount to real money?

Why MPVs Like The Mitsubishi Xpander Are Filipinos’ Favorite – INQUIRER.net https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/why-mpvs-like-the-mitsubishi-xpander-are-filipinos-favorite-inquirer-net/ If you’ve been driving lately, you would have noticed the increasing number of multi-purpose vehicles (MPV) on the road. It’s clear Filipinos have grown to love these types of vehicles. One of the hot selling MPVs in the market today is the Mitsubishi Xpander, which recently just got a facelift. The 2022 edition of Mitsubishi’s MPV now boasts of a sleeker exterior, made clearer up front with an updated dynamic shield design highlighted with a new t-shaped headlight. It also has a new set of 17-inch wheels while at the rear, it gets a new set of taillights that also carries the t-shaped theme. Inside, the Xpander’s dashboard also comes with a more premium look with a horizontal layout and multi-layered design.  While it retains the old 1.5-liter engine (105 HP, 141 nm torque), the updated Xpander drives pretty well, thanks to its updated suspension.  The Xpander has a new set of dampers, which may have had something to do with the increase in height (225mm ground clearance). The suspension upgrade seems to have given the Xpander better handling, especially when cornering.  The Xpander also comes with some nifty features like cruise control, auto hold function, and has several charging ports that will make the younger generation really happy. The Xpander has cool features like cruise control although we’re not really sure this could be useful in our congested roads. CDN Digital photo | Brian J. Ochoa The younger ones will be happy to know the Xpander has several charging ports for their gadgets. CDN Digital photo | Brian J. Ochoa The auto hold function of the Xpander helps a lot, especially for those newbie drivers. CDN Digital photo | Brian J. Ochoa So why do Filipinos in general love MPVs like the Xpander? Takeshi Hara, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation, believes it’s because Filipinos love adventure and road trips. “When we launched the new Xpander, it doubled as an opportunity for us to reawaken the love of Filipinos for adventure and road trips,” Hara said. Hara was in Cebu last June for Mitsubishi’s ‘Reimagine Your Ride’ Test Drive. READ: Mitsubishi expects more car sales as economy recovers Hara also cited that Filipinos are very particular with value-for-money, and that the Xpander gives them just that with this latest upgrade. “Filipinos pay close attention to the good  design and the Xpander has a sophisticated design that sticks to the Filipinos’ hearts. It’s a vehicle you can take with family and friends,” he added. The Xpander boasts of a sophisticated design that Cebuanos will surely like. CDN Digital photo | Brian J. Ochoa According to Hara, he noticed that some of the things  Filipinos look for in MPVs are good seat layout, multi purpose usage and good design, all of which, he says, can be found in Mitsubishi’s MPV. This explains why the Xpander is currently the best-selling vehicle of Mitsubishi, which also has in its Philippine lineup the L300, Mirage, Mirage G4, Strada, Pajero, and the Montero Sport. To know more about this MPV and the rest of the Mitsubishi lineup,  visit Fast Autoworld Philippines Corporation (FAPC)’s  website and Facebook page or contact them here. Report: Quebec’s Mohawk Council Of Kahnawake Seeks Energy To Power Crypto-Mining Opportunities – Mining Bitcoin News – Bitcoin News https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/report-quebecs-mohawk-council-of-kahnawake-seeks-energy-to-power-crypto-mining-opportunities-mining-bitcoin-news-bitcoin-news/ According to a report from Canada’s Local Journalism Initiative, members of the Mohawk Nation from Kahnawake are looking into using electricity from Hydro Quebec in order to power cryptocurrency mining operations. The Mohawk Council of Kahnawake (MCK) created a new organization to research crypto-mining opportunities that could be added to the council’s economic development portfolio. Mohawk Council Members Create Kahnawake Blockchain Technologies, Group to Research Crypto-Mining Members of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake (MCK) and the newly created Kahnawake Blockchain Technologies (KBT) are interested in expanding its economic development opportunities with cryptocurrency mining. Marcus Bankuti, a Local Journalism Initiative (LJI) reporter published an article on MCK seeking energy to produce a crypto mining unit. Bankuti quotes MCK chief Mike Delisle, the council’s economic development portfolio lead. Delisle believes crypto mining could provide an exciting revenue opportunity for Kahnawake residents. “With zero investment and an opportunity here to create a new industry, or at least a new industry within Kahnawake, it’s exciting for revenue generation and for the development of services,” Delisle said in a statement on Friday. MCK is applying for more energy from Hydro Quebec and the MCK is discussing a partnership with a company called Pow.re. The company details that the crypto mining project would not require funds from Kahnawake. “Our revenue generation and business development team has a mandate to sit down and formally negotiate terms of a possible agreement with Pow.re,” Delisle added. Pow.re Spokesperson Says Kahnawake Could Be Paid in Digital Currency for a ‘Free Roll on the Upside of the Price of Bitcoin’ Today, Mohawk Nation has roughly 16,200 members, and close to 3,000 members live off reserve. A great majority of Mohawk Nation members reside in Kahnawake, Akwesasne, and Kanesatake with most of the members (7,923) living in Kahnawake. According to Bankuti’s report, Pow.re’s local spokesperson, Paul Rice, said the “financial risk to the community is very minimal.” Rice claims the company and the MCK are focused on coming to an agreement that benefits the Kahnawake. Rice notes that mining rigs would be stored in shipping containers and Kahnawake could get a fixed percentage of the bitcoin (BTC) mined from the operations. The Pow.re representative further said that the land was already cleared and there would be “minimal impact to the grounds,” according to the LJI reporter. “What it allows for is basically a free roll on the upside of the price of Bitcoin,” Rice added. Grand Theft Auto 6 Leak Shows Pre-Alpha Footage Gameplay The Indian Express
‘Grand Theft Auto 6’ Leak Shows Pre-Alpha Footage, Gameplay – The Indian Express https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/grand-theft-auto-6-leak-shows-pre-alpha-footage-gameplay-the-indian-express/ For years now, GTA fans have been waiting for the next instalment in the celebrated open-world franchise. With GTA V now almost a decade old, players have been speculating what GTA VI would look like. Recently, a user on GTAForums going by the name ‘teapotuberhacker’ posted around 90 videos giving us a glimpse of GTA VI’s gameplay. Unlike the official teaser trailers, the videos have several unfinished elements such as missing textures and half-baked character models. Some of these videos show a female protagonist robbing a diner, visiting a strip club and having a poolside conversation. Also, the videos suggest that the game will take place in Vice City. The person who posted the videos has also claimed the responsibility for the recent Uber hack and said that they were able to get the videos by getting access to a Rockstar employee’s Slack account. While some suggest that the leaked footage is from an older build, a report by The Verge noted that the game is running on RTX 3060Ti and RTX 3080, indicating that the build is not older than two years. Also, a Bloomberg reporter has confirmed with Rockstar sources that the footage is indeed authentic. Earlier this month, Rockstar had rolled the credits on the GTA V and GTA V Online page and changed the title to ‘Thank You’, suggesting it might wind up the GTA V development in favour of the upcoming GTA instalment. As you might have expected, Rockstar has started filing takedown requests for GTA VI gameplay footage from popular websites like YouTube.

Gaming Companies Intend For Mainstream Adoption Of Blockchain Gaming The Financial Express
Gaming Companies Intend For Mainstream Adoption Of Blockchain Gaming – The Financial Express https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/gaming-companies-intend-for-mainstream-adoption-of-blockchain-gaming-the-financial-express/ According to Cointelegraph, Ryo Matsubara, representative director, Oasys, at the 2022 Tokyo Games Show, highlighted on the importance of the project’s partners such as Bandai Namco, Sega and Square Enix with regard to collaborating in this project, with the presence of a long-term plan for blockchain-based play-to-earn (P2E) gaming Japanese gaming companies are aiming for mainstream adoption of blockchain-based games, and are expected to not be influenced by the gamers’ section which is against cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs), an executive from the Oasys blockchain project said, as reported by Cointelegraph. According to Cointelegraph, Ryo Matsubara, representative director, Oasys, at the 2022 Tokyo Games Show, highlighted on the importance of the project’s partners such as Bandai Namco, Sega and Square Enix with regard to collaborating in this project, with the presence of a long-term plan for blockchain-based play-to-earn (P2E) gaming. “We have a shared vision about blockchain at the executive level. They don’t [want to] change that policy. They really understand the future adoption of blockchain. They’re not thinking about, you know, just the revenue, they want to create the next future [of gaming],” Matsubara added.  On the basis of information by Cointelegraph, Bandai Namco has created games such as Tekken and Pac-Man and Square Enix developed the Final Fantasy franchise. Matsubara made the suggestions on initial development of new blockchain-based games, and that it needs time to mature before aiming for blockchain integrations with traditional games. “When the model is fixed, becomes sustainable and successful, then strong [popular] IP will be added,” Matsubara said. Matsubara emphasised on the problem of projects being dependent on the price of in-game tokens, due to demand for alleged speculation rather than gameplay. Moreover, Cointelegraph noted that Australian-oriented game developer and Animoca brands subsidiary Blowfish Studios Luke Sillay said that people intend to have games with a fun factor rather than earning tokens. As per Oasys, its proof-of-stake blockchain is aimed towards gaming and its mainnet launch is expected to happen in the upcoming months of this year. Furthermore, western gaming companies such as Fortnite developers, Epic games have reportedly increased their exposure to blockchain gaming. Recently, the Epic Games store listed a new free-to-play NFT game called Blankos Block Party by Mythical Games.
