NITDA Trains, Empowers 200 Kids In Technology Practice | The Guardian Nigeria News – Nigeria And World News — Nigeria – Guardian Nigeria https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/nitda-trains-empowers-200-kids-in-technology-practice-the-guardian-nigeria-news-nigeria-and-world-news-nigeria-guardian-nigeria/
The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has graduated more than 200 kids trained at the STEM Bootcamp for Kids (SB4KIDS) in Lagos.
The Director General, NITDA, Mallam Kashifu Inuwa, said that the event was aimed at bridging the existing gap in the educational sector.
Inuwa said that the Stem Bootcamp for Kids triggered NITDA’s interest and resonated deeply with the ongoing efforts towards implementing the National Digital economy policy for digital Nigeria.
Inuwa was represented by Mrs Jumoke Alaka, Manager, South West Zonal office, NITDA.
He said that NITDA’s mandate was to create a framework for the planning, research, development, and standardization application, coordination, monitoring, evaluation and regulation of Information Technology practices in Nigeria.
According to him, NITDA remains committed to supporting campaigns to diversify the country’s economy from a resource-based to a knowledge-based one through Information Technology (IT).
‘’We are indeed proud to be part of this event.
‘’It is my pleasure to introduce to you National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR), the arm of NITDA meant to drive Research and Development and Innovation in the areas of emerging technologies.
‘’NCAIR is one of NITDA’s special purpose vehicles created to promote research and development on emerging technologies and their practical application in areas of Nigeria’s national interest,’’ he said.
According to him, Kids across spectrums of the society were trained by NCAIR, a training organ of NITDA on Coding, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Drone.
Inuwa said that kids were also trained on Digital Communications, Embedded Systems, the Internet of Things (IoT), Virtual Reality, and 3D requisite skill-set for the 4th Industrial Revolution.
The DG said that as an NCAIR’s catch-them-young initiative, the SB4KIDS was a Bootcamp to inspire young Nigerians in STEM.
He said that through the SB4Kids, NCAIR engaged youngsters between the ages of 8 and 16 years in an immersive and well-articulated bootcamp.
According to him, the bootcamp is meant to coach and inspire youngsters to imbibe STEM passion and create an early interest in digital and emerging technolgies.
Inuwa said that the technologies would hopefully shape the children future careers in the fields.
NITDA SB4Kids is a yearly initiative conducted during the summer school holidays.
According to him, NITDA SB4KIDS has trained over 200 participants which will broaden the minds of children in critical thinking and high sense of curiosity in science and digital technology.
He said that the early involvement in technology and innovation would accelerate the development of the IT sector and create future leaders who would transform the Nigerian technology space and boost Nigerian Digital economy.
Soji Megbwun, co founder, Community Innovation hub, said it was where kids were picked from the street and trained on technology and training partners for NITDA.
Megbwun said that the enrolment was done by NITDA that placed the advert virtually on their website and social media platform.
He said the curriculum was designed by NITDA to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal and the training was for two weeks.
Mr Mayowa Ajiboye, Partner, TEF Community Innovation Hub, appreciated NITDA for bringing the training to Alimosho Local Government Area , a suburb of Lagos State.
He said that the kids had been impacted rather than taking the training in highbrow areas.
Oluwadamilola Davies, a native of the community Innovation hub, developed a smart walker which enables the virtually impaired people to detect danger and improvise their lives.
Ajibola Daniel, 11 years old, talked about his project, cartoon animator to project the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of no poverty.
Ajibola said that the animator would help to educate people on how to reduce wastefulness and promote the SDGs
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that about 10 children with outstanding projects were awarded with laptops and the over 200 children certified.

10 Best Shows Like Buy My House – Screen Rant https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/10-best-shows-like-buy-my-house-screen-rant/
Home selling and renovation shows have been a hit for years, with an entire TV network dedicated to the genre. In recent years, Netflix has hopped on this trend, and Buy My House is their most recent release.
The show brings together several expert home buyers who are introduced to sellers and their respective homes for sale. The investors who are interested in a given property try to beat out the others and convince the seller to make a deal with them. Season 1 of Buy My House comes with only six episodes, but there are plenty of shows like it that can be streamed on demand.
10 The World’s Most Amazing Vacation Rentals
Available To Stream On Netflix
The World’s Most Amazing Vacation Rentals follows a group of friends as they travel the world and find the best vacation rental homes for every type of budget.
Several of the buyers on Buy My House specialize in short-term rentals. Viewers who love the new competition show and the idea of fun or amazing short-term rental properties would love The World’s Most Amazing Vacation Rentals. This show explores the designs of the rental, the amenities, and the local experiences that can inspire, entertain, or just relax viewers.
9 Shark Tank
Available To Stream On Hulu
Several investors come together to hear about unique products and companies. They decide if they’d like to invest in the goods or services being pitched. Buy My House is legitimately Shark Tank, but instead, the guest is selling their home.
The format and the stage set are all the same with very minor differences. Shark Tank can and has introduced viewers to interesting products and even influenced sales. Several successful and mainstream products got their start on the show. For example, Scrub Daddy, a unique and clever twist on a sponge, became huge because of Shark Tank and can be found in nearly every store in the United States.
8 The Toy Box
Available To Purchase On Amazon
Entrepreneurs with cool toy inventions try and impress a group of children for a shot at contracting with Mattel to sell their toys in stores. The Toy Box is extremely similar to Shark Tank, and thus, it’s a lot like Buy My House.
ABC decided to capitalize on Shark Tank‘s success and created a show just like it, but with a quirky spin on the concept. The Toy Box received generally low ratings and reviews, but it’s a fun show when not taken too seriously, and it’s interesting to see what kids these days prefer to play with.
7 Instant Hotel
Available To Stream On Netflix
Several short-term rental property owners in Australia compete and rate each other’s homes. The owners of the best place with the best amenities in the best location wins an amazing season-specific prize.
Those who have never been to Australia will want to when they witness the wonderful landscapes, beautiful vacation rentals, and local experiences shown in Instant Hotel. This series is similar to Buy My House because it’s a competition reality show that deals primarily with short-term rentals. However, more time is spent on the transactional elements of the show than the exploration of the homes presented. Instant Hotel gives viewers more of a look at the properties in question.
6 Selling Sunset
Available To Stream On Netflix
Selling Sunset follows the real estate agents at a firm in West Hollywood as they work to sell homes to their clients. The show also explores their lives, hardships, and the drama that comes with their career.
Selling Sunset is a huge hit and is considered one of the most re-watchable reality shows. It’s a reality show that viewers love and rave about on social media. Like Buy My House, Selling Sunset explores multiple houses, clients, and their stories in each episode. The format and drama of this show is reminiscent of Dance Moms, as most of the agents are only out for themselves, and they’re not afraid to get catty.
5 Million Dollar Beach House
Available To Stream On Netflix
Million Dollar Beach House focuses on Nest Seekers, a real estate company working to sell luxurious properties in the Hamptons. Similar to Selling Sunset, this Netflix show follows the agents at the Nest Seekers firm as they do their job and go about their lives.
Unlike the former, Million Dollar Beach House focuses more on the properties and what goes into the process of selling a home than unnecessary drama between the agents. The cast of characters on this show collaborate much of the time, rather than compete against one another. This is something the buyers on Buy My House also do when they are enamored with a property but face uncertain sellers.
4 Love It Or List It
Available To Stream On FuboTV & Discovery+
A designer renovates a client’s house as a real estate agent tries to find them a perfect new home, and the client must choose whether to keep their house or buy a new one.
What makes shows like this appealing is that they bring in legitimate professionals who compete to give the client everything they could ever dream of. While the buyers on Buy My House are hoping to gain a new property, Hilary and David on Love It Or List It are giving their clients a choice between two great things. This show can be difficult to watch at times due to the overacting on the part of the hosts. Because of this, viewers are conflicted over how fake this reality show may be. Still, it’s always a fun watch, and items interesting to see what the client decides to do.
3 Marriage Or Mortgage
Available To Stream On Netflix
A wedding planner and a real estate agent compete to produce wedding plans and a dream home for couples who can only afford one great life achievement.
Once again, two professionals compete to sin a client over just as the Buy My House buyers do. This show is a lot like Love It Or List It, but it appears to be more authentic, and replacing the home renovation with a wedding is fun and unexpected. It’s always amazing to see what the professionals come up with, and it’s a great source of inspiration for couples who are planning their next steps together.
2 The Voice
Available To Stream On FuboTV
The Voice is one of the biggest singing competition shows on TV. Four celebrities select from hundreds of voices, gather teams and coach their singers to victory.
The Voice is an entirely different concept to Buy My House, but the blind auditions that grab the most attention from viewers have a similar structure to the real estate show. Like Buy My House, the professionals are presented with content, and everyone who loves what’s in front of them must compete to get a hold of it. Ultimately, however, it is the guests’ responsibility to choose from the options laid out in front of them.
1 The Profit
Available To Stream On Peacock
The Profit follows Marcus Lemonis as he finds struggling businesses and invests his time and money into saving them. This show is reminiscent of Kitchen Nightmares and Shark Tank as if producers of both shows came together to create a new concept for a series.
Like Buy My House, Marcus meets with people who need his expertise, and he offers his help in any way he can. This is a great show for aspiring entrepreneurs and business owners who need inspiration and helpful tips to start and maintain their organizations.

NC Family Turns Abandoned Farm Into Healthy Food Haven The Edwardsville Intelligencer
NC Family Turns Abandoned Farm Into Healthy Food Haven – The Edwardsville Intelligencer https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/nc-family-turns-abandoned-farm-into-healthy-food-haven-the-edwardsville-intelligencer/
SANFORD, N.C. (AP) — While some can only dream of swapping their weekly grocery trip for growing their own food, Alexandria and David Rye made it their reality about two years ago when they purchased an abandoned horse farm in Sanford.
They bought the eight-acre property in pursuit of better-quality food for themselves and their five children. The self-proclaimed “homesteaders in training” raise poultry and goats, grow gardens, keep beehives, bake sourdough and teach others how to do the same, Alexandria Rye said.
Rye hails from Indiana, and her husband is from California. Both were on food stamps at times in their childhood, and the pair used WIC when their youngest children, 2-year-old twins Reagan and Linkoln were born. Rye was baffled that the program allotted just $5 for fruits and vegetables per baby per month.
She also experienced a slew of her own health concerns after giving birth to the twins, and with her doctor’s guidance, changed her diet drastically, cutting out gluten, dairy and refined sugars.
“The toll the twins took on me was life-threatening,” she said.
Rye’s health issues combined with her children’s intolerances to foods like refined sugars, soy, gluten and dairy made feeding her family fresh, whole foods from grocery stores difficult on a budget. She realized that to sustain a healthy lifestyle, her family would have to make a huge change.
“I said, ‘Screw it, let’s just grow it ourselves,‘” Rye said.
Starting from scratch
The family of seven was living with their three dogs in a 1,200-square-foot home in a Cameron subdivision when they began looking for a place to homestead.
While they’d never lived on a farm before, Alexandria Rye worked on a Southern Indiana potato farm in her adolescence. She started her days in the potato fields at 4 a.m.
“I would get a bologna sandwich, Mountain Dew and some cantaloupe, and they would send me home with a bunch of food, which my mom loved,” she said.
Her time with the farmer and his family left such an impression on Rye that she dedicated her own farm to their memory.
Her husband is a Fresno, California, native. The Army brought him to Fort Bragg, and after 12 years of service, he said was ready to move to the countryside.
The couple visited the former horse farm in early 2020, just 45 minutes after it was listed for sale. They said as soon as they set eyes on the Sanford property, they knew it was the right place for them, looking past the 22 tons of horse manure, and charmed by the quiet countryside and nearby bubbling creek.
“We put every penny we had and every penny they let us borrow into it,” she said.
Now, about two and a half years after moving in, the Rye family farm is bustling with activity.
The gardens boast everything from berries and butternut squash, to peanuts, potatoes and eggplant, plus a beehive. Microgreens, which they used to grow on their countertops, now grow among mushrooms.
The Ryes received a grant from the University of Mount Olive to grow Blue Oyster and Lion’s Mane mushrooms. The objective of the AgPrime grant program is intended to evaluate how former tobacco farmers can use their land to produce mushrooms on a large scale, Rye said.
The barn holds 25 goats, 11 turkeys, five quail and 43 free-range chickens, which lay their eggs all around the farm.
“Every day is like an Easter egg hunt,” Alex said.
Tailored to their taste
Most everything serves to feed the family according to their needs: goat milk, cheese and butter have less lactose than cow’s milk products; sourdough baked goods have less gluten than their traditional counterparts; and honey from the beehives is an alternative to refined sugar.
Besides feeding their own family, the Ryes sell their goods at farmers markets and offer subscription boxes of their goods at $150 for three months.
A monthly box includes a dozen eggs, a loaf of organic sourdough bread, a sourdough baked good like chocolate chip cookies, bagels or dried pasta, a natural cleaning product, powdered microgreens and a pamphlet that gives a full description of everything and how to use it.
Rye said that some customers donate subscriptions to families in need.
“We just delivered one yesterday and the lady was in tears,” she said.
Spreading the word
The couple also helps others learn about growing their own food.
“We’ll go help people get their microgreens set up, teach them how to make sourdough, and help them build their garden,” Rye said.
The Ryes also help students learn about the value of vegetables by hosting school field trips at the farm and giving presentations in classrooms. She said the field trips can be chaotic, but the impact is worth it. Once, a student struggling emotionally said he found the visit inspiring and that it was the most fun he had in a long time.
“You don’t realize the impact,” Rye said.
The family is firmly settled into farm life, thriving in their new environment and eating mostly farm-fresh food. Still, they’re not above hitting the drive-thru occasionally.
“We’re not perfect,” she said. “I’ll take the kids to Taco Bell.”

What Channel Is Giants Vs. Titans On Today? Time, TV Schedule For NFL Week 1 Game – Sporting News https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/what-channel-is-giants-vs-titans-on-today-time-tv-schedule-for-nfl-week-1-game-sporting-news/
The Giants and Titans will be feeling different shades of blue come Week 1.
Big Blue is heading towards some lean years, if the new regime has given any indication: After years of half measures and half-in, half-out competitiveness, the team seems poised to hit the reset button and start from scratch. This year will be a pure “evaluation” year for Daniel Jones, Saquon Barkley and the rest of the roster.
While the pieces exist for the Giants to be competitive in an unknown NFC East, Giants fans should brace for a long season.
On the other side of the field, the Titans are coming off a season of “What Ifs?” and a winter of sadness. After securing the No.1 seed in the AFC, Tennessee was ousted in the divisional round vs. Cincinnati, thus ending another season short of reaching the Super Bowl during the Mike Vrabel Era.
There may be good times ahead, though: With Malik Willis waiting in the wings and coming off a solid preseason, the clock on the Ryan Tannehill music could be fading out in the “Music City.” Willis may offer a spark that Tannehill

Southeast Asias Largest Bank DBS Enters The Metaverse Metaverse Bitcoin News Bitcoin News
Southeast Asia’s Largest Bank DBS Enters The Metaverse – Metaverse Bitcoin News – Bitcoin News https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/southeast-asias-largest-bank-dbs-enters-the-metaverse-metaverse-bitcoin-news-bitcoin-news/
DBS, the largest bank in Southeast Asia, says it is “the first bank in Singapore to make a foray into the metaverse.” A DBS executive explained that “The metaverse presents exciting opportunities to redefine how we live, work and engage with each other.”
DBS Entering the Metaverse
Southeast Asia’s largest bank, DBS, announced Friday a partnership with The Sandbox, a virtual world where players can build, own, and monetize their gaming experiences on the Ethereum blockchain.
The aim of the partnership is “to create DBS Better World, an interactive metaverse experience showcasing the importance of building a better, more sustainable world, and inviting others to come alongside,” the announcement describes, adding:
The partnership makes DBS the first Singapore company to seal a partnership with The Sandbox and the first bank in Singapore to make a foray into the metaverse.
“Under the partnership, DBS will acquire a 3×3 plot of LAND — a unit of virtual real estate in The Sandbox metaverse — which will be developed with immersive elements,” the bank detailed.
“The metaverse presents exciting opportunities to redefine how we live, work and engage with each other,” said Sebastian Paredes, CEO of DBS Hong Kong. “We have been getting our feet wet in this space, and our very own young technologists have been given the freedom to develop experimental concepts in the metaverse.”
DBS CEO Piyush Gupta commented: “Over the last decade, the biggest changes in the world of finance have been catalyzed by digital advancements. In the coming decade, driven by new technologies such as artificial intelligence and blockchain, these shifts have the potential to be even more profound.” He opined:
Metaverse technology, while still evolving, could also fundamentally change the way banks interact with customers and communities.
DBS said last month that the crypto trading volumes on its digital asset exchange had soared. “Investors who believe in the long-term prospects of digital assets are gravitating towards trusted and regulated platforms to access the digital asset market,” the bank explained.
Other banks and investment firms that have established a presence in the metaverse include Standard Chartered Bank, JPMorgan, and Fidelity Investments.
In August, Bank of England’s analysts said crypto assets could have important roles within the metaverse. Earlier this year, Goldman Sachs said the metaverse could be an $8 trillion opportunity. McKinsey & Company expects the metaverse to generate $5 trillion by 2030. Meanwhile, Citi has predicted that the metaverse economy could grow to between $8 trillion and $13 trillion by 2030.
What do you think about Southeast Asia’s largest bank, DBS, entering the metaverse? Let us know in the comments section below.

In light of the influx of filings from cryptocurrency issuers in the United States, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) decided to set up two new offices this fall to provide specialized support to the seven offices currently responsible for reviewing issuer filings.
Under the Division of Corporation Finance’s Disclosure Review Program (DRP), the SEC announced plans to add two offices — an Office of Crypto Assets and an Office of Industrial Applications and Services — purely focused on dealing with crypto assets and industrial applications and services, respectively.
Sharing insights into the move, Renee Jones, director of the Division of Corporation Finance, stated:
“The creation of these new offices will enable the DRP to enhance its focus in the areas of crypto assets, financial institutions, life sciences, and industrial applications and services and facilitate our ability to meet our mission.”
According to the announcement, the Office of Crypto Assets will take over DRP’s effort to review crypto filings, allowing the department to refocus its resources “to address the unique and evolving filing review issues related to crypto assets.”
The Office of Industrial Applications and Services, on the other hand, will be set up to take over non-pharma, non-biotech, and non-medicinal products from the Office of Life Sciences.

Australia will hold a national public holiday on September 22 as a national memorial service takes place to honour the life of Queen Elizabeth II.
A public holiday and memorial service for the Queen is being considered by the Government at the Cabinet meeting on Monday.
Australians will be given the chance to honour the life of Queen Elizabeth II with a public holiday to coincide with a national memorial service.
No decisions have been made on a public holiday in New Zealand, a spokesperson for Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said.
However, a Government spokesperson confirmed Cabinet will consider options for a New Zealand memorial service and public holiday at its meeting on Monday.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed on Sunday the one-off holiday would take place on September 22, three days after the royal funeral in London.
Albanese said he had already spoken to all premiers and chief ministers about plans for the national day of commemoration.
“They have all agreed that it’s appropriate that it be a one-off national public holiday,” he told ABC’s Insiders programme on Sunday.
It comes as Governor-General David Hurley prepares to mark King Charles III’s accession to the throne.
Albanese will recommend the governor-general proclaim Charles as the new monarch at a meeting of the Executive Council at Government House at 11am on Sunday.
The governor-general will then make the proclamation at midday outside Parliament House.
The ceremony will include a welcome to country, followed by the proclamation with God Save The King to be performed and then a 21-gun salute.
Flags that have been flying at half-mast will return to full mast until dusk.
State governors will make their own proclamations in ceremonies around the country after the federal event.

The prime minister and Hurley will travel to London on Thursday to attend the funeral at Westminster Abbey.
Before then, the Queen’s coffin will be driven from Balmoral Castle to Scotland’s capital Edinburgh and be flown to London later in the week.
It will remain at Buckingham Palace before being taken to Westminster Hall to lie in state for four days, allowing the public to pay their respects.
Albanese said assistance has been given to 10 Pacific island nations that have connections with the Commonwealth to travel to London for the funeral.
Federal parliament, which was due to sit this week in Canberra, has been suspended following the death of the Queen.
The prime minister said the government would look to make up the days following the period of mourning.
“One of the days will be devoted to people being able to give their condolences on the passing of Queen Elizabeth,” he said.
King Charles III has also approved an order that the day of the late Queen’s funeral, September 19, will be a bank holiday in the UK, with schools to close on the day.
Meanwhile, Australians have continued to publicly mourn the monarch over the weekend.
Sandra Alexandridis, of Reservoir, burst into tears at Melbourne’s makeshift memorial outside Government House while remembering the Queen on Saturday.
“She was a rock of society … it’s like you’ve lost your grandmother,” she told AAP.
Warren Fairfax, 82, visited Government House in Sydney on Saturday, 65 years after receiving a Queen’s Scout award at the same location.
“I wanted to come back and just pay respects to her … I just wanted to do that today,” he said.

The serious fraud investigation office (SFIO) of the ministry of corporate affairs (MCA), in a crackdown on Chinese shell companies operating in India, has arrested the mastermind and chief plotter of the racket that has incorporated many China-linked shell companies in India.
The arrest was made after searches and seizure operations conducted by the ministry on September 8, 2022, on the offices of Jillian Consultants India Private Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Jilian Hong Kong Ltd., at Gurugram, Fininty Pvt Ltd at Bangalore, and Husys Consulting Ltd, an erstwhile listed company at Hyderabad.
“Dortse is on the Board of Jillian India Ltd and has clearly emerged as the mastermind of the whole racket of incorporating a large number of shell companies with Chinese links in India and providing dummy Directors on their Boards,” says an MCA statement.
The ministry, under whose aegis SFIO operates, had assigned the investigation of Jilian Consultants and 32 other companies to SFIO on September 9, 2022. Dortse and one Chinese national are the two directors of Jilian Consultants India Private Limited.
Based on inputs and the investigations carried out, it was found that Dortse had fled from Delhi-NCR to a remote place in the state of Bihar and was attempting to escape India through the road route.
A special team was constituted in SFIO, which was deputed to the said remote place. On September 10, 2022, SFIO arrested Dortse, who was later produced in the jurisdictional court and orders for his transit remand were obtained.
The arrested person, Dortse, had shown himself to be a resident of Mandi in Himachal Pradesh as per the records filed with the Registrar of Companies, the ministry adds.
The ministry says the evidence procured during the enquiry by the registrar of companies (ROC) Delhi and the simultaneous search operations clearly points to dummy directors being paid by Jilian India Ltd. to act as dummies in several shell companies.
“Boxes filled with company seals and digital signatures of dummy directors have been recovered from the site. The Indian employees were in touch with their Chinese counterparts through a Chinese instant messaging app,” it adds.
Husys Ltd. was also acting on behalf of Jilian India Ltd. “Initial observations reveal that Husys Ltd. had a pact with Jilian Hong Kong Ltd. Investigations so far have revealed the possible involvement of these shell companies in serious financial crimes detrimental to the country’s financial security,” it adds.

Normally when girls turn 16, there is a spring in their step, they gain body confidence and a certain carriage born out of self-esteem. Rohini Gupta* didn’t have any of this. She was waiting to turn 16 so that she could have a life-saving bariatric surgery, just so that she could breathe and walk easy. Weighing 100 kg, she had Type 2 diabetes, fatty liver, high cholesterol and blood pressure. Yet, she was not born fat, had no hormonal issues, nor was she diagnosed with any rare condition.
In fact, she weighed normal in her childhood. But then came the school years, the peer pressure, the rebellious distaste for home food, the binge-eating of junk food at get-togethers and the ordering out. In a nuclear family, where working parents are stretched between home and office responsibilities, the food app waved a magic wand. So much so that Rohini, who had mainly food apps on her cellphone for emergency use, ordered different kinds of food every day, a habit that soon turned into an addiction. Yet nothing seemed to satisfy her. Never too outdoorsy, she wasn’t into much physical activity either.

Dr Ganesh Jevalikar, child endocrinologist at Max Healthcare, who has been monitoring her unusual obesity, says, “Bariatric surgery, which involves reducing the stomach to kill hunger and increase satiety, is not an acceptable solution and we had to wait till she had gained puberty. You cannot drastically reduce calories in pre-teens when growth hormones are kicking in. She had a dangerously high BMI (body mass index) of 47, the normal being 25. Her diabetes and cholesterol levels worried us. She admitted that gorging on food was a stress reliever. In urban India, the onset of adult Type 2 diabetes is becoming common. We are seeing an increase in bone problems and PCOD in girls.” There has been a gradual increase in hyperactivity and neurological conditions, all the result of over-eating, he adds.
Child obesity, particularly in a sedentary world legitimised by the pandemic and a wishful living that thrives on the food-at-your-doorstep service, is an emerging epidemic in India. According to UNICEF’s World Obesity Atlas for 2022, India is predicted to have more than 27 million obese children, representing one in 10 children globally, by 2030. Dr Anuja Agarwala, former senior dietitian, Department of Paediatrics, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), says, “The National Family Health Survey (2019-21) found that 3.4 per cent of children under five are now overweight compared to 2.1 per cent in 2015-16. And if you compare another study from 2012 on 14- to 16-year-old school children of private schools (in the upper middle-class urban context) with the present, the obesity index has climbed sharply from 25 per cent and is touching near about 30 per cent. An obese child becomes an obese adult and obese adults make for a diseased generation.”
The sickness burden is evident from the number of teen patients that Dr Priyanka Rohatgi, chief nutritionist, Apollo Hospitals, gets every day despite the educated backgrounds they come from. “Ritika* is 18 and her mother is a doctor. Owing to her erratic schedule, her mother loaded up her payment wallet and Ritika would order online. She developed Irritable Bowel Syndrome, which affected her gut health. At 5 ft 6”, she weighed close to 90 kg. She would hardly sleep beyond five hours and this distorted her metabolism. If, in our time, you could spot one or two stout kids in a class, now a lean one is an exception.”
As a nutritionist, Rohatgi has dissected how food aggregators are a temptation, particularly for teens and pre-adults. “First, they lead to portion distortion. The pop-ups always flash an additional Coke, sundaes or chocolate mudcakes, for something between Rs 30 and Rs 50, along with the pizza that is ordered. Seemingly pocket friendly, these offers also load up the snack plate with what they may desire but not need. The biggest misnomer is the category called ‘healthy eats’ that seems to be disease friendly and has solutions to every kind of food allergy. But has one ever tested hygiene levels at cloud kitchens or the fact that the same oil is being used multiple times in cooking, increasing free radicals, the root cause of most diseases including obesity, heart disease and diabetes? And all of them have the same three triggers — refined carbohydrates, high fat and excessive salt.” Earlier, children didn’t have so many processed foods or shop-a-meal options, so they didn’t carry the calorie burden they have today, even when their metabolism has remained the same.
My healthy plate for the day
While compiling her study at AIIMS, Agarwala traced our popcorn-eating habits, that being the easy nibble for all age groups. While 20 years ago (a family) had five cups amounting to 270 calories (in a single sitting), our mindless addiction to it has meant that we have 11 cups or 630 calories today.
Of course, it is easy enough to blame food dependencies on consumerist choices of a generation but convenience as a virtue cannot be totally denied. Nor can you deny that habits, good or bad, are bred when the child is in his or her formative years. As Agarwala says, “The biggest mistake a mother makes is to distort the appetite of the baby by supplementing breast milk with complementary feeds. Your breastmilk is all the child needs. I have had mothers who want their babies to gain weight simply because they don’t look chubby enough. Most Indians think not looking chubby means the baby is weak.” Another myth is that the baby fat disappears once the child grows older. But evidence shows that many pre-school or elementary school children, who are obese or overweight, remain so, as they enter their teenage years. Most of them fail to overcome this issue as they grow up.
She also says that if children were exposed to the flavours of all fruits and vegetables, unsalted of course, in the first and second year of their lives, they would never be fussy eaters. “I once had a mother asking me if she could give cola to her eight-month-old simply because he was refusing to eat but seemed to like the taste of cola. Children acquire their flavour profiles very fast and even if you are cooking at home, you must be conscious of the food you are giving them. Complex flavours mean evolved preferences.”
Jevalikar highlights the need to programme the child’s tastebuds for the first three years of his life. “Make that one food that everybody in the family has to have, no excuses allowed. Make eating a participatory family ritual rather than individual indulgence. And, maybe, it is a good idea to revive the tiffin concept,” he says. Rohatgi was surprised that despite “make your own meal” sessions in schools, 18-year-old Ritika didn’t know how to make buttermilk at home. She would instead opt for tetrapack juices and health drinks, full of preservatives.
Indian babies are born with more fat than muscle even if we look lean and thin compared to Western counterparts. That’s because Asian genetics are different. Also, your BMI doesn’t take into account the amount of fat in the body. So for Indians, it is the waist-to-hip ratio that is important, which is why we have one of the world’s highest burdens of non-communicable diseases. What then can be done to reverse child obesity that’s practical and implementable, considering that a habit acquired may not be shed easily till the alternative seems equally appealing? Agarwala suggests a family-counselling approach. “Most children with obesity have parents, too, with extremely sedentary lives and diet preferences. So, they need to change and support their child’s weight-loss journey.”
For starters, Agarwala has revisited the food pyramid with the healthy-eating plate. “Imagine your plate to be a pie chart. We need half of it to be full of fruits and vegetables, basically plant foods. One fourth part should be protein and the remaining quarter should be carbohydrates. We usually tend to reserve the bigger chunk for rice and wheat, thinking the meal would not have satiety value. It’s the same reason why despite having an omelette made of two eggs (good protein with high satiety value) people will always team it with bread. Millets, wholegrains, legumes and pulses include as many complex carbohydrates as possible as they take time to be broken down. Hydration is also very important. Junk that flavoured or sparkling water and go for plain water that’s boiled. Even RO takes away most of the healthy minerals from the water.” As a dietitian, she also feels the need to reorient ourselves to easy and fast home-cooked meals that do not make too much demands on a working mother’s time.
Agarwala suggests parents ensure behavioural modification by simple tricks and treats. “Limit portion size so that children have some space in their tummy and don’t feel heavy. Monitor mindless eating as they are hooked on to their devices, and urge them to take a break. Treats are not meant to be rewards, change the reward to maybe a short hike together or some fun outdoor activity.”
Rohatgi argues for smart substitutes that do not compromise a child’s nutritional requirements. Both have ideas on how consumers and food apps can make this work. Agarwala feels apps should put a total calorie count of the ordered meal as a pop-up so that you know what kind of exercise is needed to burn it. Rohatgi calls for a new food-aggregator business based on nutritious dabba services. “In Bengalur...
Florida Vs. Kentucky Score Takeways: No. 20 Wildcats Dominate Second Half To Swamp No. 12 Gators CBS Sports
Florida Vs. Kentucky Score, Takeways: No. 20 Wildcats Dominate Second Half To Swamp No. 12 Gators – CBS Sports https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/florida-vs-kentucky-score-takeways-no-20-wildcats-dominate-second-half-to-swamp-no-12-gators-cbs-sports/
Nearly a touchdown underdog entering The Swamp on Saturday night, No. 20 Kentucky shut out No. 12 Florida in the second half to pull off a 26-16 win and continue a wild day of upsets across college football. While neither of the game’s star quarterbacks were notably efficient, Gators phenom Anthony Richardson was notably poor as the Wildcats defense rattled him all night to win consecutive games over their SEC East rivals for the first time since 1976-77.
The win over Florida also makes Mark Stoops the winningest coach in Kentucky history with 61 victories, one more than the legendary Paul “Bear” Bryant. The ‘Cats have now won three of their last five meetings against the Gators after losing the prior 31 games in the rivalry.
Kentucky trailed 16-7 after recording a safety by botching a snap on a punt late in the second quarter, but the visitors were able to rattle off the final 19 points of the game, including a 65-yard pick six by Keidron Smith with 3:25 left in the third quarter and 26-yard field goal from Matt Ruffolo with 1:24 remaining.
The UK defense gave up just 91 yards to the UF in the second half, much of which came in garbage time in the final possession of the game, in one of the most impressive such performances during the Stoops era.
Kentucky quarterback Will Levis hooked up with Dane Key for a 55-yard touchdown to take a 7-3 lead early in the second quarter, but Florida scored the next 13 points including an 11-yard touchdown run and 2-point conversion reception by Trevor Etienne.
The ‘Cats rushing attack, which was largely stagnant in the first half, cranked things up in the latter period behind Kavosiey Smoke and La’Vell Wright, wearing down a Florida defense that struggled with the physicality of its offensive line. It was the first time the Gators was shut out in the second half of the game since 2017 against Michigan.
Richardson entered the game with Heisman Trophy and NFL hype after engineering a thrilling victory over then-No. 7 Utah last week, but he struggled mightily Saturday. Richardson finished 14 of 35 for 143 yards with two interceptions and only 4 rushing yards. He has yet to throw a touchdown in either game this season.
What are the biggest takeaways from Saturday night’s SEC East battle in Gainesville? Let’s break them down.
Kentucky knows its identity
Stoops didn’t become the winningest coach in program history by accident. He did it by establishing the identity of Kentucky football in his own image — a smashmouth, old-school team that pounds opponents at the line of scrimmage and capitalizes in the second half. This game was a perfect encapsulation of that identity.
Florida had just 13 rushing yards in the second half, converted just two of its eight chances on third down, one of three on fourth down and had just 2.9 yards per play. What’s more, Kentucky held Florida without a chunk play — passes of 15 or more yards and rushes of 10 or more yards — in the fourth quarter. That’s the calling card of a well-coached, fundamentally sound defense.
We don’t know what Kentucky’s offense is capable of. Levis didn’t have a great day through the air and struggled to consistently move things on the ground. That makes its ceiling a mystery. What we do know is that its floor is incredibly high because of a mentality that is established from the moment Stoops welcomes players on campus.
Anthony Richardson has a lot of work to do
Richardson’s week-long hype was due in large part to his 106 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns on the ground. However, he had a relatively average day through the air with 168 yards and an average of 7.0 yards per attempt. He wasn’t at full strength on Saturday, which played into his lack of production on the ground, but Kentucky made him one-dimensional and he couldn’t come through.
Simply put, the hype was too much, too soon for the redshirt sophomore from Gainesville, Florida. That’s not to say that he can’t fix the glitch. But he was used primarily as a changeup on the ground last year behind Emory Jones, and that inexperience showed against Kentucky.
It’s more than ‘just one game’
Kentucky has Youngstown State and Northern Illinois up on the schedule before a showdown with Ole Miss in Oxford. That is looking like it’ll be a matchup between top-15 teams in a game that can not only vault the winner into “contender” status within the division but also as a legit threat to the national title.
Kentucky has two games to work on its offense and, perhaps more importantly, get Chris Rodriguez Jr. back to lead Smoke and the rest of the running back corps. If they can consistently establish the run — something that didn’t happen until the second half on Saturday — Levis’ job will be much easier and transform the Wildcats into a complete football team.

Questionable decision
Florida, down seven on fourth-and-3 with 8:41 to play, coach Bill Napier decided to go for it. Carrington Valentine broke up Anthony Richardson’s pass on a slant to turn the ball over. Kentucky took over and Kavosiey Smoke promptly ripped off an 18-yard run to get the Wildcats into field goal range. Napier will look back on that one on Sunday and wonder what he was thinking.

Pick six for the Cats
3:25 Q3: No. 20 Kentucky 22, No. 12 Florida 16
The tables have turned in a hurry in Gainesville. Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson telegraphed a pass to the outside, Keidron Smith jumped the route and took it 65 yards the other way to give the Wildcats a one-score lead late in the third. Richardson has been brutal through the air today, going 8 of 21 for 103 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. He received a ton of hype for his success against Utah last week, but that was mostly because of his work on the ground. Through the air, however, he has been below average through seven quarters this year.

We are tied up
6:35 Q2: No. 20 Kentucky 16, No. 12 Florida 16
Matt Ruffalo hit a 24-yard field goal after Kentucky’s 11-play drive stalled. The big news in the third quarter has been the arrival of the Kentucky running game, which has featured a good mix of Kavosiey Smoke and La’Vell Wright. Smoke now has nine carries for 39 yards, and is providing enough balance to keep Florida’s defense honest.

Kentucky battles back
1:25 Q2: No. 12 Florida 16, No. 20 Kentucky 13
The Wildcats were seemingly spiraling out of control, but quarterback Will Levis plunged in from one yard out got them within three. Another special teams blunder cost them on the point after, when a bad snap forced Chance Poor to roll out and heave up a prayer that fell incomplete. It gave Kentucky much-needed momentum going into the locker room, but special teams need to be cleaned up.

X METAVERSE PRO A Video-Centric User-Led Decentralized Web3 Platform GlobeNewswire
X METAVERSE PRO, A Video-Centric, User-Led, Decentralized Web3 Platform – GlobeNewswire https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/x-metaverse-pro-a-video-centric-user-led-decentralized-web3-platform-globenewswire/
September 10, 2022 23:04 ET | Source: X METAVERSE PRO
New York, NY, Sept. 10, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — With the development of various websites, applications, and self-media, information dissemination in various forms, content or video, has considerable influence on society. Douyin, Kuaishou, Tencent Video, Youku, and other applications are widespread and occupy most of the traffic in the market. Live streaming and advertisement placement have become the primary revenue methods. X METAVERSE PRO was launched to break the monopoly brought by social media platforms.
Innovation in Internet Video
X METAVERSE PRO is a decentralized video platform based on blockchain. The key features are autonomy and sharing. It tries to innovate and transform Internet video from platform-led to creator-led. The platform allows anyone to upload videos and makes the ownership of videos open and transparent. Users can control their data and have the right to use and profit. They can get XMETA Token rewards based on the number of views and likes they get, which makes them more motivated. To produce high-quality works, readers can also gain purer content.
Governed by DAO, the project is initiated by a group of like-minded partners. The team members come from all over the world. The new internet shares a common passion. Among them, engineers account for the majority, the team is technically focused, and code development is more active. The team attracts quality projects and talent through frequent hackathons and developer events.
XMETA is the governance token of the platform, and its primary functions are staking, governance and payment. As a native asset on the X METAVERSE PRO chain, this Token participates in rewards for various roles. Access is by making high-quality contributions to the platform and community by becoming a founding member. That is to say, you can get XMETA by registering an account on the X METAVERSE PRO platform, posting videos, or watching videos.
The Next Generation of Web3 Internet
X METAVERSE PRO takes advantage of the traceability, immutability, anonymity, and other characteristics of the blockchain, aiming to achieve Web3, forming a new business model, which is expected to have a disruptive impact. First of all, the decentralization of the blockchain does not have a mandatory central control function, which can effectively remove third-party constraints and is jointly dominated by countless nodes. The second point is that it is traceable and non-tamperable, which can fully protect the system’s operational security and allow users to participate in the benefits in combination with the consensus mechanism. Finally, rely on anonymity to provide users with privacy protection and avoid data association by web trackers.
Based on the blockchain network, X METAVERSE PRO uses Web3 interactive technology to create a new generation of Internet of value, empowering creators to monetize their content directly without taking a share of the platform.
Overview of Platform Features
The X METAVERSE PRO platform opens the video upload function and sets various categories, such as technology, music, dance, food, cartoons, trendy games, and finance. Creators can sell the content as NFT and tokenize their channels. Anyone can invest in creators and earn a share of their income.
At the same time, the platform has launched several editing functions, integrating 3D, VR, modeling, and other visualization application technologies to facilitate users to edit independently and achieve more 3D model interaction. X METAVERSE PRO allows users to generate interactive interfaces for text, video, music, external links, and other functions through simple configuration, making videos more exciting and interactive. Users can develop online anytime, anywhere.
As a video-centric blockchain, X METAVERSE PRO, in addition to providing users with decentralized video services, allows developers and entrepreneurs to build video applications and allows creators to develop autonomous platforms. Creators publish and auction the NFTs generated by their videos, which can also be shared and crowdfunded in the community. From this point of view, X METAVERSE PRO is a powerful tool for creators to realize the creation and release of videos, which is an epoch-making communication and commercial closed-loop decentralized Web3 platform.
Representative of Creator Platform in the Web3.0 Era
The Internet empowers us to personalize and interact from a search-only Web1 to a read-write Web2. Following the trend of accessibility, content has become easier to find, produce and share. Web3 can better reflect the labor value of netizens and realize the balanced distribution of value, which people widely favor. In this Web3 revolution, X METAVERSE PRO is the pioneer of this practice, taking the lead in solving the problems of user information security and content ownership. Based on this surprising discovery, X METAVERSE PRO has a certain novelty in the field of content creation and video communication in the Web3 era and will play a more significant role in the Web3 mode in the future.

Binance: No plans to auto-convert Tether, though that ‘may change’
This week, Binance revealed plans to phase out three stablecoins on its trading platform: USD Coin (USDC), TrueUSD (TUSD) and USDP Stablecoin (USDP). The three assets, as well as associated spot trading pairs, will no longer be tradable on the exchange. In addition, Binance plans to terminate other services related to USDC on its platform, such as staking.
The transition is essentially an effort to centralize liquidity into the exchange’s own stablecoin, Binance USD (BUSD), based on an explanation tweeted by CEO Changpeng Zhao. The exchange will convert users’ remaining holdings of USDC, TUSD and USDP into BUSD over a span of 24 hours, commencing on Sept. 29. A conversion of Tether (USDT) to BUSD, however, was not included in Binance’s plans, though that could change, according to a Binance spokesperson.
Bank of Russia agrees to legalize crypto for cross-border payments: Report
Russia’s central bank is expected to allow cross-border crypto payments to and from the country, but digital asset payments inside its borders will remain banned. The country banned crypto as a payment vehicle via previous legislation. According to Russian Deputy Finance Minister Alexey Moiseev, the government’s new approach to crypto is a response to changing circumstances globally following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine earlier this year.
A statement to media outlet RIA Novosti from the Bank of Russia explained: “It is important to emphasize that we are not talking about the legalization of cryptocurrency as a means of payment on the territory of our country.” A day later, news came in regarding Russia reportedly looking to cooperate with so-called “friendly” countries to set up a stablecoin platform for cross-border payments.

Hopkins, also known as “Doctor Bitcoin,” claims to have registered with the U.S. Financial Crimes Enforcement Network but complications arose as some of his P2P Bitcoin dealings were tied to a client involved in money laundering. Vermont’s financial regulator alleges Celsius and its CEO made ‘false and misleading claims’
Bankrupt crypto platform Celsius faces allegations from the Vermont Department of Financial Regulation (DFR). The authority claims Celsius and its CEO Alex Mashinsky knew about the project’s financial issues, but proceeded to mislead the public into thinking everything was fine. The allegations also cite market manipulation of the project’s CEL asset. “By increasing its Net Position in CEL by hundreds of millions of dollars, Celsius increased and propped up the market price of CEL, thereby artificially inflating the company’s CEL holdings on its balance sheet and financial statements,” Ethan McLaughlin, assistant general counsel for the DFR, said.

Carlos Alcaraz and Casper Ruud will play for the U.S. Open championship on Sunday afternoon in Arthur Ashe Stadium (4 p.m., ESPN).
Both Alcaraz, the 19-year-old from Spain, and Ruud, a 23-year-old Norwegian, are seeking their first major championship.
As if that weren’t enough motivation, it will mark the first time two men seeking their first major will battle in a Grand Slam final for the world’s No. 1 ranking.
Ruud is aiming to become the first Norwegian man to win a Grand Slam title, while Alcaraz seeks to become the youngest No. 1 in the history of the ATP Rankings at the age of 19 years and four months. Lleyton Hewitt was 20 when he became world No. 1 in 2001.
“I think what’s most fair is if we both reach the final and whoever wins the final reaches the world No. 1,” Ruud said after dispatching Karen Khachanov of Russia in the semifinals on Friday. “That would be I think the ideal situation.”

Alcaraz is 2-0 against Ruud, including a straight-sets win in the Miami Open final in March.
Ruud’s victory over Khachanov eliminated Rafael Nadal from contention for No. 1. Alcaraz ousted American Frances Tiafoe in a five-set thriller Friday, making Sunday’s final a winner-takes-all-clash for a Grand Slam trophy and World No. 1.
“It’s a final of a Grand Slam, fighting for the No. 1 in the world, something that I dream since I was a kid,” Alcaraz said.
“I mean, what I have to say? Is final of a Grand Slam. Right now I’m going to enjoy this moment. My first Grand Slam final.”
Both men had Saturday off to recover, and Alcaraz surely needed it.
After not dropping a set in his first three matches, he needed five sets each to dispatch Marin Cilic, Jannik Sinner (in a match that ended at 2:50 a.m. Thursday) and then Tiafoe.
“I would say now I’m more prepared [than last year],” said Alcaraz, who has spent 20 hours, 19 minutes on court in the tournament so far. “Last year I just played three Grand Slams before the U.S. Open, and I had just played, I’m going to say, one match of five sets. Now I’ve played more matches of five sets, I am more prepared mentally and physically.”
Alcaraz is 8-1 in five-setters and feels confident knowing he’s 2-0 against Ruud.
“I feel capable of beating him again,” said Alcaraz. “He has already played a Grand Slam final, and for me everything will be new. But everything new in my career I have faced in a good way. I hope to do the same on Sunday. I’m going to try to show my best version.”
Getty Images
Ruud’s was crushed by Rafael Nadal in the French Open final in June, but the Norwegian believes that experience will help him Sunday.
“I mean, Roland Garros, the final, [Nadal] obviously gave me a good beating,” said Ruud. “After the final I said, If I ever reach one again, I hope it is not Rafa on the other side of the court in Roland Garros, because it’s sort of an impossible task I think for any player. I’m happy that it’s not Rafa on clay.
“I hope it can have prepared me a little bit. At least I know a little bit what I’m facing when I’m stepping on the court, seeing the trophy on the back of the court, seeing tons of celebrities. Even in Roland Garros, there were royal families there watching. That was a little bit new experience for me. I hope I can be more ready for that on Sunday.”

Ruud says his game plan is to be aggressive against Alcaraz, who combines incredible speed with concussive power and arguably the most deft drop shot in the men’s game.
“I think if I want to beat Carlos, I’ll need to play very precise with all the shots that I hit,” said Ruud. “Especially try to keep him a little bit further back in the court, to play with good depth and length on all my shots.
“If he steps in, he can do anything with the ball. He can rip a winner. He also has great touch with the dropshot. I think he has one of the best dropshots on tour. He can do both shots back and forth, it will sort of get you off guard sometimes with the dropshot.
“If you play with good depth and good length, it’s tougher to hit dropshots. That will be something that I will try to focus on.”

Scottsdale, Ariz. – Bartley Forrester fired a 7-under-par 63 Saturday, and Connor Howe added a 3-under-par 67, enabling No. ¾ Georgia Tech to post a 13-under-par round of 267 and move up two spots to ninth place after 36 holes at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate.
Meanwhile, freshman Hiroshi Tai went 12-under-par in the 36-hole finish of the individual tournament at Desert Mountain and captured his first collegiate tournament victory in a playoff over Michael Mjaaseth of Arizona State.
After struggling on the front nine Friday at the 7,118-yard, par-70 Mirabel Golf Club, the Yellow Jackets scored 10-under-par Saturday over the same nine holes, which was their closing nine for round 2. They passed New Mexico and Wake Forest on the leaderboard and sit 16 shots behind Auburn, who leads the team race by two over Arizona State.
Tech, which won this event last September at 44-under-par, will begin its final round of the 54-hole tournament at 11:40 a.m. Eastern time Sunday.
TECH LINEUP – With four birdies and a bogey on his front nine and four birdies and no bogeys on his back nine, Forrester matched the low round of his career, which was posted at Mirabel in the third round of this event a year ago, and tied for the low round of the day. The senior from Gainesville, Ga., moved up to a tie for 20th place at 5-under-par 135. Howe also played the second nine bogey free for his 67 and finished 36 holes at 8-under-par 132, tied for ninth place individually.
Ross Steelman, added a 1-under-par 69 Saturday to his opening 66 and also is tied for 20th place at 5-under-par 135. Tech also counted a 2-under-par 68 from freshman Aidan Tran, and junior Christo Lamprecht shot 1-under-par 69.

TEAM EVENT SUMMARY – Auburn maintained its lead by posting a 12-under-par 268 Saturday but saw it shrink to just two strokes after Arizona State shot 23-under-par 257. The Tigers have a 36-hole total of 526 (-34), while the Sun Devils finished the second round at 528 (-32).
Florida State shot 19-under-par Saturday and hold third place at 531 (-29), followed by Tennessee (533, -27) in fourth. San Diego State and Oregon are tied for fifth place at 538 (-22). Washington (540, -20), Arizona (541, -19), Georgia Tech (542, -18) and New Mexico (546, -14) round out the top 10 in the 18-team field.
With a 63, Tennessee’s Caleb Surratt took over the individual lead at 13-under-par 127, one stroke ahead of Oregon’s Owen Avril (128, -12). Florida State’s Cole Anderson, with a 64 Saturday, is tied for third place with Auburn’s Ryan Eshleman at 11-under-par 129. Eshleman followed his opening-round 60 with a 69. Shea Lague of San Diego State and Boyd Owens of Wake Forest are tied for fifth at 130 (-10).
INDIVIDUAL EVENT SUMMARY – Georgia Tech’s Tai shot rounds of 68-66 Saturday and finished the individual event at the Desert Mountain Outlaw course in a tie with Arizona State’s Mjaaseth at 14-under-par 202. The Yellow Jacket freshman came away with his first collegiate victory with a birdie on the first playoff hole, and outlasted 36 other players for the triumph.
TOURNAMENT INFORMATION – The Yellow Jackets are competing in the Maui Jim Intercollegiate for the fifth time, having won the tournament in 2018 and 2021 following finishes of sixth and second the two years prior. Georgia State hosts the 18-team event, which is 54 holes concluding Sunday. The team event is being played at Mirabel Golf Club, a 7,118-yard, par-70 layout in Scottsdale, Ariz., in the same vicinity as Grayhawk Golf Club, site of the NCAA Championship last spring and in each of the next two years.
A companion 54-hole event for individuals not in their teams’ starting lineups is being staged concurrently at the Outlaw Course at Desert Mountain. Three Tech players participated in the individual competition, which concluded Saturday.
Participating teams include Arizona, Arizona State, Auburn, Clemson, East Tennessee State, Florida State, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Louisville, New Mexico, NC State, Oregon, San Diego State, Tennessee, UCLA, UNLV, Washington and Wake Forest. Georgia Tech (3), Arizona State (5), Tennessee (10), Florida State (11), Wake Forest (24), Oregon (26), East Tennessee State (27) and Washington (30) are all listed among Golf channel’s pre-season top 30 teams.

Healthy Iredell Resumes Efforts To Assess, Address Community Health Concerns – Iredell Free News https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/healthy-iredell-resumes-efforts-to-assess-address-community-health-concerns-iredell-free-news/

Healthy Iredell, a coalition of Iredell County citizens and agency and organization representatives, met recently to continue its work to improve the quality of life and health status of all community members.
The coalition monitors the health status of the community through surveys and data collection, conducts the Community Health Assessment (CHA) every four years, develops the yearly State of the County Health Report, gathers data for the Iredell County Health Department, and coordinates subcommittees that work to improve specific health issues indicated by the CHA.
Current subcommittees focus on cancer, fitness and diet, mental health, and youth wellness.
The last CHA was conducted in 2019 so the Healthy Iredell group is in the process of gathering input to tweak and add to the 2023 assessment questions to help identify key health needs and issues based on thorough data collection, research, and analysis.
After the CHA is complete, Healthy Iredell will develop strategies to address any health inequities and identify the resources to address the identified gaps. This continual data collection helps increase knowledge about community members health needs and seeks to connect them to activities, education, and community resources to improve their health outcomes.
The data helps Healthy Iredell develop health focus areas and to create a Community Health Action Plan to mitigate prevalent community health concerns over the next four-year cycle.
Group members also decided that the Healthy Iredell website needs expansion and improvement to spread the word about its work, community data, and available community resources to help county residents improve their health and fitness levels.
NEW TOBACCO-FREE REQUIREMENTS COMING
Carleen Crawford, Regional Tobacco Control Manager of NC Health Region 4, discussed the new “tobacco free culture of care” that all behavioral health facilities in North Carolina must integrate into their facilities and treatment starting December 1.
The N.C. Standard and Tailored Prepaid Health Plans that serve Medicaid and uninsured patients requires that all contracted medical, behavioral health, and some intellectual/developmental disabilities and traumatic brain injury organizations provide a 100 percent tobacco-free facility for both staff and patients.
“There will be no more ‘let them keep their cigarettes,’ ” said Crawford, adding there will be a steep learning curve for staff to include the Change for Life: Tobacco Free Recovery program standards alongside their current treatment programs.
Facilities must adopt and implement tobacco-free campus policies, integrate best practice tobacco treatment into ongoing services, and employ shared messaging that supports a positive tobacco-free culture of care for clients and staff.
Crawford said research indicates that helping patients quit smoking can result in a 25 percent increased likelihood of sustained recovery from alcohol and other drug use.
She also noted that the tobacco industry targeted those with mental health disorders for years. Medicaid could realize huge cost savings if just 1 percent quit tobacco use, with an estimated $58 million in savings the year after the tobacco free standards are implemented, according to Crawford.
Resources to assist facilities in this transition are available at https://www.mecknc.gov/HealthDepartment/CommunityHealthServices/TobaccoFreeMecklenburg/Pages/Best-Practice-Resources.aspx.
2019 COMMUNITY HEALTH ASSESSMENT FINDINGS
The 2019 CHA surveyed 1,321 residents over three months, including residents of Statesville (49%), Mooresville (35%), Troutman (8%), Harmony (6%), Olin (1%), Stony Point (1%), and other (1%).
The racial and gender breakdown of community respondents reflected the overall demographic data of the county. African-American and Hispanic are the two most prominent minority groups, followed by multi-racial individuals.
Fifty-five percent of those responding were female and 46 percent male, with age groups and income levels again reflecting Iredell County’s make-up.
Cancer and weight were among the top three selected health priorities by respondents in 2015, but residents’ mental health concerns increased in 2019. In 2015, only 19 percent selected mental health as a top health priority, compared to 34 percent in 2019.
Five of the top six selected health priorities related to chronic disease prevention. The leading causes of death in Iredell County remained constant from 2009-2019, including cancer (19.4%), heart disease (18.1%), and cerebrovascular disease (stroke, aneurysms, and vein malformations that interrupt blood flow) (5.6%).
Five of the top ten leading causes of death are chronic conditions that improved diet, exercise, and ceasing tobacco use can prevent.
The good news is that improvement to many health indicators related to chronic diseases, including stroke, heart disease, and diabetes, steadily decreased from 2009-19.
After 2019 data examination, the committee chose to prioritize mental health, chronic disease, and infant mortality in the Community Health Action Plan through 2022, the end of this CHA cycle.
Because of the pandemic, some of the planned work to address these issues was affected because committees could not meet and the community health focus shifted to COVID-19.
The committee members want to see the current four committee reports before reviewing the 2023 CHA questions to help inform their work and readdress any areas still lingering from the 2019 assessment.
MENTAL HEALTH
Sixty-five percent of residents expressed a need for improved mental health resources and awareness on the 2019 CHA. Mental health problems can be treated and managed with early detection, treatment, and support.
Many low-income individuals do not have access to mental health support services. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among individuals under age 17 in Iredell County. The committee sought to add social supports, such as community-based self-harm and suicide prevention education, over the past three years.
CHRONIC DISEASE
Most chronic conditions are preventable or treatable with early detection screenings, a healthy diet, physical activity, and quitting tobacco and other unhealthy substance use. Chronic diseases also cause financial hardship and serious health consequences.
The most common chronic diseases in Iredell County, according to the 2019 CHA, are cancer (19.4%), heart disease (18.1%), and cerebrovascular disease (5.6%).
The 2019 CHA found that one-third of Iredell County children ages 2 to 4 are overweight or obese, with 68 percent of Iredell County residents overall considered overweight or obese. Seventy percent of community respondents do not get the recommended amount of physical activity
Ninety-one percent of respondents did not consume the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables.
The committee sought to increase the community’s healthy eating and active living strategies, which are evidence-based and successful in reducing the risk of developing a chronic condition.
INFANT MORTALITY
Iredell County’s infant mortality rate has exceeded the state’s rate for the last decade. The county also has one of the most serious infant mortality disparity rates in North Carolina. In 2019, African-American infants were more than three times likely to die prior to their first birthday than their Caucasian peers.
The African-American Infant mortality rate was 22.4 compared to the Caucasian rate of 7.4. Some risk factors that impacted the infants’ health included the educational attainment of mothers, smoking during pregnancy, insufficient prenatal care, and the overall health status of the mother.
More than 7 percent of Iredell County mothers are receiving late or no prenatal care. Fifty-five percent are either overweight or obese. The African-American teen pregnancy rate is double the Caucasian rate.
NEXT STEPS
Healthy Iredell will next meet on Tuesday, October 25, at 3 p.m. to review committee reports, review the basic assessment, and to brainstorm a list agencies to ask for feedback on assessment questions and additional data points to include on the Iredell 2023 CHA.
Contact Dinikia Savage at dinikia.savage@co.iredell.nc.us for more information or to get involved.

Vols win it
It wasn’t pretty, but Tennessee pulls out a 34-27 overtime thriller at Pittsburgh. The Panthers will be left to wonder what could have been if Kedon Slovis had stayed healthy. Beyond that, Nick Patti was playing banged up as well. The Panthers’ lack of perimeter playmakers seemed apparent throughout this one. Also worth noting they were without running back Rodney Hammond and playing with a backup center in key moments. Nonetheless, it’s a W for the Vols.

Touchdown Tennessee
The Volunteers overcome what first seemed like a devastating holding call on a would-be Hendon Hooker touchdown run to score on the next play. Facing a second-and-13, Hooker found Cedric Tillman for a 28-yard score. PAT is good, making it 34-27 as Pitt takes possession.

Tennessee ball
Tennessee will start overtime with the football after Pitt wins the coin toss. Volunteers haven’t scored a TD since the second quarter. Reminder that you must go for two starting in the second overtime now. Anything beyond two OTs results in alternating two-point conversion plays until there is a winner.

Tennessee stalls out. Overtime!
After a couple of quick-hitters to get near midfield, Tennessee stalls yet again, leading to a fourth-and-3. Vols punted it away as the game clock ran with Pitt apparently fine letting the game head to OT. Panthers had a timeout and didn’t use it. Vols likely happy just to get the punt off. We are headed to overtime tied at 27.

Touchdown Pitt
Pittsburgh cashes in on Tennessee’s botched punt by driving 39 yards for a huge score to tie it at 27 as backup QB Nick Patti finds Jared Wayne for a TD on fourth-and-goal from the 4-yard line. What a clutch throw from Patti, who was staring down the face of a Tennessee linebacker as he delivered it. Tennessee will have time as 2:23 remains, but the Vols have struggled offensively the entire half.

Pittsburgh on the cusp
Israel Abanikanda coming up huge on this series for the Panthers with an 11-yard run and a 21-yard reception on a screen pass to get the Panthers to the Tennessee 6-yard line down 27-20

Another special teams miscue
After having a punt blocked earlier in the half, special teams issues haunt Tennessee once again. Trevon Flowers botched the punt, and Pittsburgh falls on it. After a three-and-out, that gives the Panthers life in Tennessee territory, Pitt has done nothing offensively in this half and it needs 7 here.

Nick Patti at QB
It looked for a moment on Pitt’s last series as if Nick Patti might be unable to keep going after he came in for the injured Kedon Slovis to begin the third quarter. But he is Pitt’s QB here as the Panthers trail 27-20 midway through the fourth quarter. Dartmouth transfer Derek Kyler is the third option, if needed.

Vols go up 27-20
A false start and then a sack forced Tennessee into a fourth-and-19 from the Pitt 34. Those miscues put the Volunteers on the very cusp of field goal range but Chase McGrath nailed it from 51 to make it 27-20. Great stand by the Pitt defense, and the Vols should feel fortunate to come away with points after more miscues stalled a once-promising drive.

Tennessee moving
Thanks to a physical post-catch run from Bru McCoy on a third-down play, the Volunteers have things rolling for the first time in a while offensively. Tennessee into Pitt territory leading 24-20 with 14:07 left as we take an injury timeout. McCoy, a USC transfer who secured eligibility just before the season began, has made a couple big plays today.

Pitt touchdown called off
Pittsburgh quarterback Nick Patti ran for a touchdown, but it was called back due to a holding penalty. The Panthers couldn’t recover from the pantry, and now Patti is down receiving attention after he was sacked on third down. Remember that Kedon Slovis is already down for the Panthers. So the Panthers settle for a field goal from Ben Sauls that narrowly trickles over the crossbar. Dartmouth transfer Derek Kyler appears to be taking warmup throws on the sideline as Pitt’s QB3.

Headed to the fourth
After a scoreless third, we head to the fourth with Pittsburgh vying for the tie deep in Tennessee territory. The Panthers may come to rue their two missed field goals in the third quarter, but the Volunteers also had their share of missed opportunities. Penalties and a costly fumble in Pitt territory ruined Tennessee’s chances of taking a two-possession lead as it seeks revenge on the Panthers for last season’s loss in Knoxville.

Pitt misses opportunity
Ben Sauls misses his second field goal attempt of the third quarter as special teams both give and take away for the Panthers here. The offense just looks a bit out of sync with Kedon Slovis still out. So Tennessee gets the football back ahead 24-17 with neither team having scored yet in the quarter.

Huge swing
With Tennessee poised to pin Pittsburgh deep, the Panthers block a punt as P.J. O’Brien ignites the home crowd by coming around the edge to send the Brooks punt backwards. Pitt takes over in the red zone. Hendon Hooker had Cedric Tillman 1-on-1 down the right sideline on first-and-10, and the throw was on the money. But the coverage was just good enough to keep the would-be TD from happening.

Offensive lull
By the standards of the first half, we’ve hit an offensive lull here to begin the third quarter. Nick Patti fires incomplete on third-and-long and Pitt has to punt from deep in its own territory after a three-and-out. Vols will take over just inside Pitt territory with a chance to add to their 24-17 lead.

Pitt’s defense answers
Pittsburgh needed a stand from it defense, and the Panthers got one as Tennessee does nothing on its first possession of the second half. The Volunteers didn’t help their cause with a costly offensive pass interference call that set up a second-and-31. Good punt from Paxton Brooks sets Pitt up inside its own 20 with Tennessee still leading 24-17 at the 8:34 mark of the third quarter.

Missed FG
Pittsburgh moves the football 47 yards on its first possession of the second half with Nick Patti at quarterback, but a Ben Sauls field goal attempt from 46 yards missed well wide to the left. Tennessee will take over at its own 36 leading 24-17 early in the third quarter. Chance for the Volunteers to take a two-possession lead here for the first time today.

A Meal In The Metaverse? – Deccan Herald https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/a-meal-in-the-metaverse-deccan-herald/
In recent times, many food brands have joined forces with those in the blockchain industry. One such popular collaboration is OneRare which is the first-ever project to build a metaverse for food, gaming, and NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) on the blockchain ecosystem. Similarly, Michelin Star Chef Vikas Khanna, who is no less than a brand himself, has launched his 38th book Sacred Foods of India as an NFT.
Globally, brands like Starbucks, Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, Burger King, and Taco Bell are also venturing into the concept. While experts call such a collaboration a “natural progression,” youngsters are nothing but very excited about this idea.
“Food chains getting into the crypto scene is a natural progression. In fact, the NFT and crypto strategy is no different from their current rewards programmes,” Anndy Lian, chairman, of BigONE Exchange believes. Lian suggested that food chains can start giving NFTs to their young customers instead of giving away toys with meals.
“They can from there start to build more stickiness with their customers at a very young age, from NFT to games to “eat-to-earn” in their own metaverse,” he explained.
NFTs for a ‘Happy Meal’ quotient?
Everyone’s favourite burger chain McDonald’s has shown keen interest in diving into the NFT scene at a global level. While it is not clear if they would introduce any reward programmes any sooner in India, youngsters we got in touch with, say that they would be delighted to be served with a digital gift instead of a happy meal.
“Collecting NFTs instead of a ‘Happy Meal’ is a good idea as it is about having something that is about or represents something. Before NFT was cool, tangible things had much more value. But nowadays giving NFT as a token of gift is a cool idea,” says Samarth Malhotra, 21, crypto enthusiast. Similarly, Anshita Mathur, 26, IT BA Manager, Axis Bank, also doesn’t mind redeeming reward points into crypto or having NFT collections over physical stuff like happy meals.
“I think we’re over the age of physical collectables and digital art is easier to hold and make a strong collection out of. I don’t think you can hold as much physical art as you can a digital collection,” she said.
On the other hand, while Mukul Jain, 25, Product Manager, ICICI Lombard, also loves the idea of NFTs instead of physical collectables, he is still doubtful whether food chains are going to use blockchain for currency given the government’s compliances in the country.
These digital collectables are valuable as they would come as a form of investment as well. From a very young age, this could become a way to make them learn about finances, which is very rare to experience.
How about a date in the metaverse?
As the restaurant business took a nosedive during the Covid-19 pandemic, fast food brands used a digital-first strategy to their rescue.
One strategy is to introduce NFTs or cryptos to their reward system, the other is to accept cryptocurrencies, and one possible strategy could be to allow customers to have a metaverse experience along with their physical date.
A metaverse dating experience would be different from a Zoom call or a virtual meetup we usually prefer nowadays as it will bring your avatars to meet in another world. Tasting food might not be possible but you can experience meeting someone new in a virtual restaurant-like environment and having conversations over a cup of virtual coffee.
Although it seems to be a good idea to many, people are still sceptical about how it will all turn out.
Raj Kapoor, founder and CEO of India Blockchain Alliance said, “Whether you’re attending a virtual concert, exploring a foreign country, or watching a sporting event, and now the option of meta dating, virtual and augmented reality could make you feel like you’re there and it seems a great immersive experience for long-distance dates and meetups.” However, he finds the concept of metaverse dating a bit scary too at the same time.
“The entire concept could be intriguing, exciting, and even scary. We also may be looking to a future where we are always hooked into a virtual world. I fear it will be a dystopian nightmare,” he added.
Mathur also finds the idea of metaverse dating interesting however she would want to keep the physical element alive too.
“The physical intimacy and emotional aspect might not be the same for me but I am open to trying it out,” she said.
Rhea Mehta, 26, believes that with metaverse dates people would be able to discover more of each other’s personalities in a safer virtual space before actually meeting up. “It would be interesting to see how food companies will create online experiences for dating,” she said.
We are not there yet at our fullest potential but the future of food chains collaborating with blockchain firms seems bright as we speak. It would be really exciting to go on a metaverse date or be able to collect digital gifts which are a form of investment as well. What do you think?

8 Tom and Jerry
While mastering Tom and Jerry in MultiVersus requires some time and skill it’s absolutely worth it since this beloved and hilarious duo is one of the strongest and most visually entertaining fighters in the game. They belong to MultiVersus‘ Mage class and the two can be used together and even separately.
While their unique ability to split up requires the most skill it is one of the most useful abilities in the game. However, fans can enjoy other fun Tom and Jerry perks, signature attacks, and passive abilities while going on their adventures. 7 Superman
Superman is one of the best characters available for beginner and casual gamers who want to get started fast with an easy-to-use strong character in MultiVersus. Naturally, players can enjoy some of the most well-known Superman abilities like his laser beams, super punch, and bulletproof body. Superman has a wide variety of cool perks, attacks, and passive abilities and is also one of the few characters that can be used on the ground and in the air too.
6 Wonder Woman
DC‘s most beloved female superhero is also one of the strongest characters of MultiVersus. While Wonder Woman is a hard-to-master tank character she can be more than useful, especially when paring her with assassin characters like Harley or Arya since she can provide great protection and can even be used to rescue allies.
Fans can also use some of her most known tools and abilities like Wonder Woman’s sword of Ares and her Lasso of Truth. While most of the perks for Wonder Woman are for defense she also got some of the greatest attack moves too.
5 Finn The Human
One of Adventure Time‘s most popular characters Finn The Human is also one of the strongest assassin characters in MultiVersus. Even though Finn was one of the game’s three characters who got nerfed and got less powerful he’s still one of the best fighters especially when players use Finn’s unique combos.
Finns got some really fun and unique abilities and perks like his Going Out Of Business and his backpack attack. So while this fun character is weaker now players can still successfully use the best perks for Finn to overpower their enemies thanks to Finn’s speed and flexibility.
4 Shaggy
For those players who want to go with one of the Scooby-Doo gang members, Shaggy is probably the best choice. While Velma is also a very strong character she was nerfed and now is considerably weaker and is one of the hardest-to-play characters, so it’ll take more time to learn how to master Velma. However, Shaggy is a powerful Bruiser class character who is great when it comes to up-close fights and is one of the easiest-to-master characters in MultiVersus.
Shaggy is not only the best choice for beginners because he’s an easy-to-use character but also because he’s one of the strongest hitting ones. He also got some cool abilities and perks like his Hangry Man or One Last Zoinks, and Last Stand perks and can throw powerful punches and sandwiches.
3 Harley Quinn
Harley Quinn is the single coolest antiheroine who also happens to be one of the strongest Assasin characters in MultiVersus. While Harley was also nerfed and is now weaker she’s still one of the strongest and fastest human characters who can cause some serious damage with her weapons.
Harley is best for players who want a fast-paced character, but she can be difficult to control for beginners, so it’s best to check out a guide to mastering Harley Quinn before getting started. Players can enjoy some really useful perks and combos too and use Harley’s iconic baseball bat too. While she’s strong she can also take a lot of damage since she’s got no super strength or superhuman durability, so it’s best to pair her with powerful superhuman characters like Wonder Woman.
2 Batman
Batman is the strongest free-to-play character in Warner Bros’ fighting game MultiVersus. DC‘s baddest good guy is a top-tier bruiser character in the game too. It’s also one of the easiest characters to play, but it might require some time to master his combos.
However, it’s worth the time and effort since The Dark Knight is still one of the strongest and most fun-to-play characters in MultiVersus. Players can also enjoy a wide range and powerful attacks and combos not to mention some of the coolest perks while also using Batman’s most iconic battle gadgets.
1 Bugs Bunny
Looney Tunes‘ fan-favorite character Bugs Bunny is the most powerful mage in MutliVersus who’s also a highly versatile character. Bugs Bunny is not only one of the strongest fighters in the game but also one of the most fun-to-play ones. While he’s also one of the hardest-to-master characters in MultiVersus thanks to his hilarious attacks it’ll be a joy to play once players learn how to use his combos well.
Bugs Bunny got some powerful abilities and attacks, and his perks include controlling space, so gamers can successfully fight their enemies on land and in the air too, even from a distance. Players can also use some of the most iconic Looney Tunes items like dynamites, rockets, and even custard pies to defeat their enemies.

US Senators Press Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg On Crypto Scam Policies For Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp – Regulation Bitcoin News – Bitcoin News https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/us-senators-press-meta-ceo-mark-zuckerberg-on-crypto-scam-policies-for-facebook-instagram-whatsapp-regulation-bitcoin-news-bitcoin-news/
Six U.S. senators have demanded answers from Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg about how his company is handling cryptocurrency scams on its social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp. “We are concerned that Meta provides a breeding ground for cryptocurrency fraud that causes significant harm to consumers,” the lawmakers wrote.
Senators Want Answers From Mark Zuckerberg and Meta Platforms
U.S. Senators Robert Menendez, Sherrod Brown, Elizabeth Warren, Dianne Feinstein, Bernard Sanders, and Cory A. Booker jointly sent a letter on Thursday to Mark Zuckerberg, chairman and CEO of Meta, about his company’s “efforts to combat cryptocurrency scams on its social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp.”
Citing “recent reports of scams on other social media platforms and apps,” including data from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the senators wrote:
We are concerned that Meta provides a breeding ground for cryptocurrency fraud that causes significant harm to consumers.
“While crypto scams are prevalent across social media, several of Meta’s sites are particularly popular hunting grounds for scammers,” the letter describes. “Among consumers who reported being scammed out of cryptocurrency on a social media website, 32% identified the scam as having originated on Instagram, 26% on Facebook, and 9% on Whatsapp.”
The lawmakers asked Zuckerberg seven questions concerning Meta’s current policies pertaining to cryptocurrency scams. They request that the Meta CEO responds with detailed information by Oct. 24.
For each of Meta’s social media platforms, the questions include how the company finds and removes crypto scammers, educates and warns users about crypto scams, and assists victims of fraudulent crypto schemes. The senators also asked how Meta verifies that crypto ads are not scams and what regulatory licenses are required to advertise on its platforms. Moreover, they asked to what extent Meta collaborates with law enforcement to track down scammers.
U.S. authorities have been warning that scammers are increasingly using social media to defraud investors. In August, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) warned investors of fraudsters exploiting their fear of missing out (FOMO) on social media.
