How First Response Uses The Latest Technology In Springfield MA – EIN News https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/how-first-response-uses-the-latest-technology-in-springfield-ma-ein-news/
Technology has become a critical part of the towing business. With the advent of social media and the internet, customers have more options when choosing a tow company and towing companies have to be more innovative in order to stay competitive.
The latest technology makes it easier for towing companies like First Response to connect with customers, receive feedback and voice customer opinions. With almost everyone carrying a smartphone, it’s much easier to keep customers updated and informed.
GPS trackers
First Response uses GPS trackers which are an excellent way to manage the company’s fleet. This helps to deal with customers more effectively, be first on the scene when a vehicle breaks down, and earn more business.
By First Response using a GPS tracking device helps allows the company to reduce fuel costs, improve customer service, and make it more efficient. The company can now identify the exact location of each truck and dispatch the truck with the fastest response time possible. It is also a good way to ensure that each truck is being used during the correct working hours.
The GPS trackers are connected to First Response truck fleet through an app. When First Response needs a towing truck, the app searches nearby service providers. It can also show the driver’s current location and estimated time of arrival. It also provides real-time updates, which helps First Response keep track of the driver and the trucks.
Real-time GPS fleet tracking helps First Response reduce the risk of stolen vehicles. It can also improve route planning, provide traffic updates, and coordinate the movement of vehicles.
Smartphones
Mobile phones have many advantages for First Response. They can send data, receive faxes, and even access full Internet access. They are equipped with Bluetooth technology, which is useful for short-distance communication.
Their smartphones feature high-resolution screens and powerful processors and have GPS receivers, which aid in dispatching road tow truck services. By them using mobile technology they are more responsive to their customers.
Cameras
First Response uses cameras to ensure the safety of both the drivers and customers. They are able to provide real-time surveillance feeds of the property and help mitigate damages that are caused by accidents.
First Response also has cameras installed dashboard near the steering wheel, which gives drivers an improved view of what’s behind them. This way First Response is able to make sure the vehicles are safe.
By allowing the use of technology First Response has been one of the leading Springfield MA towing company.

Steve Kerr Gets Real On Challenges Of Warriors Trip To Japan ClutchPoints
Steve Kerr Gets Real On Challenges Of Warriors’ Trip To Japan – ClutchPoints https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/steve-kerr-gets-real-on-challenges-of-warriors-trip-to-japan-clutchpoints/
The Golden State Warriors hoisted the Larry O’Brien Trophy again in 2018, winning back-to-back championships for the first time in franchise history. It wasn’t a smooth start to the season that helped Golden State manage the trials and tribulations associated with its title defense, though. The team’s trip to China for a pair of exhibition games, in fact, was later criticized by players and coaches en masse for the physical and mental toll it took so close to tipoff of the 82-game grind.
But don’t worry, Dub Nation. Steve Kerr seems not at all concerned by his reigning-champion team befalling that same fate on its upcoming overseas “vacation.” Appearing Thursday on Damon and Ratto, he copped to inevitable complications of the Warriors’ preseason trip to Japan, but insisted they didn’t compare to rippling advantages of continuing to grow the game internationally.
“It’s not the ideal way to go through training camp. It’s not how you draw it up, but it’s an incredible opportunity,” Kerr said. “To go to Tokyo, which is such a great city…It’ll be an amazing experience for our players and coaches. Any sort of training camp disruption is far outweighed by the benefits of being in Tokyo with the team and growing the game. Seeing the Japanese people cheer on Steph Curry and the team, it’ll be a thrill.”
Golden State began unofficial team workouts in the Bay this week and opens training camp on September 24th. The Warriors will fly to Japan a couple days later for two preseason games against the Washington Wizards on September 30 and October 2nd, just outside Tokyo at Saitama Super Arena. They’ll finish preseason action with three games at Chase Center, beginning October 9th versus the Los Angeles Lakers.
Golden State’s 2017-18 title defense began with a week of practice and one preseason game before moving to China. The Warriors returned home a week later not only jet-lagged, but without much additional prep time due to the start of the regular season being pushed up to mid-October.
“This is the way you’re supposed to enter a season,” Kerr said during the 2018-19 preseason, per Mark Medina of the Bay Area News Group.“You have a solid couple of weeks of conditioning and not too much travel. You really get to put things in piece by piece and get better day by day and not worry about international travel and time zones. This is a much more natural way to prepare for the year.
“It’s a huge relief to look at our preseason schedule and know that we’re pretty much sticking close to home.”
Kerr, the current head coach of Team USA, spent his early years living in the Middle East and was overseas for much of the offseason, including in Cairo—where he attended high school— for a stint with Basketball Without Borders. He understands and appreciates the mutually beneficial nature of people experiencing different cultures as much as anyone in the league.
Still, there’s no denying the Warriors’ trip to Japan will make a successful title defense slightly more difficult. At least Kerr and team decision-makers are bound to better planned for that reality this time around.

Are We In A Recession Or Arent We? AU Harbert Eminent Scholar Weighs In Yellowhammer News
Are We In A Recession Or Aren’t We? AU Harbert Eminent Scholar Weighs In – Yellowhammer News https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/are-we-in-a-recession-or-arent-we-au-harbert-eminent-scholar-weighs-in-yellowhammer-news/
James R. Barth, Auburn University’s Harbert Eminent Scholar, recently detailed what constitutes an economic recession.
Questions and answers courtesy of Auburn University
Can you explain to us the role of two consecutive quarters of negative GDP in determining if the U.S. is in a recession? How accurate has this metric been?
I cover business cycles using data from 1857 to the present in my undergraduate course every spring. This includes the topic, “How do we know when we’re in a recession?” I show them the dates of all the recessions over the period, and the data typically shows that whenever real GDP has declined for two consecutive quarters, it turns out that we’d entered a recession.
But it isn’t that simple, is it? The formal determination of whether we’ve entered a recession isn’t made until well after two straight quarters of negative GDP have been recorded, right?
That’s true. Right now, it’s too soon to know. The reason is that the eight economists associated with the National Bureau of Economic Research, or NBER, who date business cycles are still examining the data.
The practice has been to rely on their definition of a recession, which is a significant decline in economic activity spread across the economy and lasting more than a few months. Unfortunately, their determination of recessions typically takes between four and 21 months.
One might compare their procedure to that of a doctor. When you go to your doctor, he or she might say: “There are a few possible reasons for your symptoms, and I think I know what’s wrong with you, but I need to conduct a few more tests to be sure.” Would you say: “No thanks, doc, I’ll go with your initial thoughts” rather than wait for the results of the tests your doctor needs to be sure of their diagnosis?
Remember that there are (at least) two key factors at work in making a final, data-based determination by NBER’s economists as to whether we are in a recession and, if so, when it began:
The first factor to consider is that these formal assessments are always made after two consecutive quarters of negative real GDP growth have been reported.
During the four months or so after that, the eight economists at NBER conduct a detailed analysis and deep-dive assessment of the country’s economic health, pulling in a much broader range of data than “mere” real GDP growth decline. These data points include unemployment claims, job growth, consumer confidence, etc.
The second factor pertains to the relative impact of other conditions that may skew the viability of real GDP decline alone as a clear indicator. This time around, these include the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, persistent supply chain disruptions and emerging political and trade issues with China, to name just a few.
Let’s take the first factor you identify — can you walk us through what goes into the more detailed assessment you describe? What other economic data beyond GDP are you referencing?
The comprehensive, research-based analysis of the economy the NBER relies on a host of economic statistics beyond real GDP growth.
These experts take into account data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Conference Board and other respected sources to paint what they consider to be a clearer, more vivid picture of the U.S economy at any given point.
Let’s look at what some of these indicators tell us today:
Unemployment claims continue to log record lows for the first half of 2022 and have declined every week since August. We typically don’t see unemployment at these historically low levels — a little over 200,000 claims per week — during a recession.
Job openings are also at extraordinarily high levels, rising from 10.7 million job openings in June to 11.2 million in July. Recessions typically come with a reduction in available jobs, not an increase.
Consumer confidence is another measure economists use when determining whether we’ve entered a recession, and again, this metric today appears to contradict what normally occurs during a recession.
The Conference Board reported that consumer confidence rose from 95.3 in June to 103.2 in July, which is not what one might expect during a recession.
As you mention, these seemingly contradictory economic metrics are not the only factors these experts have to contend with as they consider whether or not we’ve entered a recessionary period. A wide range of global issues impacting the U.S. economy today are presenting unique challenges, aren’t they?
Yes, they are, and here’s where everything happening today needs to be considered according to the impact these economic factors have on people living at various income levels, socio-economic status, financial security, etc.
On the one hand, high employment, robust job growth and the corresponding wage rise might benefit everybody in the U.S., but a closer look says otherwise. If wages rise by 4% while the cost of goods and services go up by 8%, real wages go down, as does purchasing power.
Inflation, in particular, affects people in lower income brackets much more than those with higher earnings, a more stable financial footing and the ability to tap into savings or cut discretionary spending.
People in lower economic brackets don’t have that flexibility. Gas prices have come down over the past few months but remain high. The cost of food and other essential goods rose, and it isn’t clear how quickly they might come down or how much.
Everything you’re saying here points to uncertainty. There doesn’t appear to be precedent to look to for guidance regarding this historically divergent set of economic indicators. What can the federal government, including the Federal Reserve, do to help rectify today’s challenging economic circumstances, especially inflation?
I’m glad you included the federal government vs. the Fed alone, which is the agency most people look to for relief. The Fed can raise interest rates to help cool down economic growth and drive down inflation. The Fed is acting, and it is having some effect. But we need to look beyond the Fed and interest rates for answers.
The federal government’s recent spending surge certainly contributes to inflation despite claims to the contrary. In these difficult times, we need to think bigger.
Can you give us an example of what you mean by “think bigger”?
Sure. Consider this: We can’t have a healthy economy without healthy people. And yet, we devoted so little of our resources to preventing something as straightforward as the COVID-19 pandemic.
The government’s biggest failure — which the director of the CDC recently admitted — was the mixed messages regarding testing, masks, vaccines, etc. Get tested, don’t get tested. Wear a mask, don’t wear a mask. Get vaccinated, don’t get vaccinated. Even after all we’ve been through, we haven’t made much of a dent in resolving that uncertainty.
Furthermore, we should never forget that the critical resource in our country is human capital, and much more should be done to improve the health and education of our people.
One thing we might do — which would take a separate interview to flesh out fully — would be to allocate $50 billion or so to scientific research about how to best combat the next pandemic and deliver that science-based information to the public.
At the same time, we need to build the health care sector to be ready should the event occur. When you reduce uncertainty, you free up people to act in ways that more closely approach “normal times,” whatever that might be.
What else should we know about the current condition of the U.S. economy?
We need to remember that recessions, inflation, interest rate fluctuations, etc. are all global issues — virtually every economy in the world faces them. We are not alone.
That reminds me of an opportunity I had a few years ago to travel to Moscow to speak at The International Foundation for Socio-Economic and Political Studies. Sitting next to me on my panel was Mikhail Gorbachev, the former president of the Soviet Union, who passed away just a few days ago. We had a chance to chat one-on-one, and it was interesting to hear the views of the former leader of a country with economic drivers that are often markedly different than those in our own country — and quite a different perspective on human capital as well.
I was honored to represent Auburn and participate in substantive economic discussions on the international stage and bring that experience and those wide-ranging views back to my students here on the Plains.

Cal Football: In-Game Thread For Bears Vs. UNLV Sports Illustrated
Cal Football: In-Game Thread For Bears Vs. UNLV – Sports Illustrated https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/cal-football-in-game-thread-for-bears-vs-unlv-sports-illustrated/
Cal and UNLV meet today for the first time ever, each trying to improve to 2-0 on the season.
The Bears play for the second straight week at Memorial Stadium while the Rebels are on the road for the first time this season.
In the video at the top of this story, Cal sideline reporter Todd McKim discusses the challenges faced by the Bears’ defense against a UNLV offensive that produced 52 points last week.
COIN TOSS: Cal wins the coin toss and defers. Bears will kick off, defending the north end zone.
11:08 1st Q: Bears start at their own 45-yard line after a 27-yard punt by the Rebels, then immediately are sent back to the 30 after a 15-yard personal foul penalty for an illegal block by RB Damien Moore. But Jack Plummer completes passes of 11 yards to Mavin Anderson and 18 and 37 yards to Jeremiah Hunter, setting up a first-and-goal at the 2. Freshman Jaydn Ott takes it in from there for his first career rushing TD. Plummer is 3-for-3 for 66 yards on the drive and has a ridiculous passer rating of 284.8. Cal 7, UNLV 0.
3:52 2nd Q: Cal adds to its lead after a 10-play, 80-yard scoring drive, capped by Plummer’s pass to Ott in the left flat, which Ott turned into a 12-yard TD reception. He leaped over defender Jordyn Morgan, absorbing the hit and landing in the end zone. Plummer was 5-for-5 for 59 yards on the drive, including a 16-yarder to tight end Keleki Latu. Plummer is 8-for-8 for 125 for the game and a 272.5 passer rating. Cal 14, UNLV 0.
END OF 1ST QUARTER: Cal outgained the Rebels 135 yards to 86 and has a 7-5 edge in first downs. Plummer still perfect at 8-for-8, 125 yards. UNLV is threatening, has a 2nd-and-goal at the Cal 11. Cal 14, UNLV 0.
14:55 2nd Q: WR Kyle Williams takes a 2-foot forward lateral and races 11 yards untouched into the end zone as the Rebels finally get their offense untracked after scoring 52 points a week ago. They go 75 yards in nine plays with QB Doug Brumfield going 4-for-4 for 72 yards. Cal 14, UNLV 7.
8:18 2nd Q: Plummer was 12-for-14 passing when he forced a ball into coverage at around the UNLV 5-yard line and Rebels nickel back Jerrae Williams intercepted. He returned it to the 15 when he was tackled by Cal O-lineman Spencer Lovell. Officials said he fumbled and originally gave Cal possession. But an official review said Williams’ knee hit the ground before he lost possession. UNLV keeps the ball. Cal 14, UNLV 7.
1:58 2nd Q: Cal eats more clock and adds to its lead when Dario Longhetto converts a 21-yard FG, capping an eight-play, 65-yard drive. The Bears’ scoring drive was greatly aided by three big penalties against the Rebels – pass interference (personal foul – 15 yards), pass interference (15) and pass interference (10). Cal has a time of possession edge of 19:59 to 8 minutes. Cal 17, UNLV 7.
HALFTIME: Cal 17, UNLV 7. The Bears dominated the game statistically, holding the ball for 20 minutes, 51 seconds to 9:09 for the Rebels. The yardage is equally one-sided: 268 to 109. Cal has 17 first downs to 7 for UNLV. Yet, the game is far from over. Plummer’s interception nearly the goal line and the subsequent drive in which Cal managed only a field goal on a drive that reached the 3-yard line have contributed to the game being much closer than it needed to be.
Plummer completed 12 of his first 13 passes and is 17-for-22 for 205 yards with a TD and an INT. UNLV’s Brumfield, who was 21-for-25 and had 4 TDs a week ago, is 8-for-14 for 84 yards with a touchdown. Jaydn Ott is the game’s leading rusher with 25 yards on 4 carries. Jeremiah Hunter has 5 receptions for 79 yards and Mavin Anderson 5 for 48 for the Bears. Ricky White has 3 receptions for 45 yards for the Rebels.
Cal will get the second-half kickoff.
SECOND HALF
Scroll to Continue
8:21 3rd Q: Cal adds 3 more points to its lead on a 30-yard FG by Dario Longhetto, who is now 4-for-4 on the season. But once again, the Bears could have done more. They had a first-and-goal at the 10 and managed just 3 points. In the first half, they had the ball at the UNLV 10 and the 3 on consecutive possessions and totaled just 3 points on those opportunities. Cal 20, UNLV 7.
7:04 3rd Q: UNLV strikes back with a four-play, 75-yard drive, capped by Aidan Robbins’ 31-yard scoring run. Two plays earlier, Brumfield threw down the right sideline and Cal safety Craig Woodson nearly intercepted it. But Kyle Williams wrestled the ball from him — the official review confirmed it — and UNLV had a 33-yard gain to the Cal 37. Those squandered scoring chances by the Bears may be coming back to haunt them. Cal 20, UNLV 14.

The Wacky Apple TV video game show will arrive later this year.
Published on September 10, 2022
Mythic Quest, the Ubisoft-Produced workplace Sitcom about video game development, is back with a brand new Season 3 trailer. During Ubisoft Direct, Creator Rob McElhenney (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) revealed the exciting new video, which showcases a bit of what fans can expect for the next season.
After a quick recap of Seasons 1 and 2, the trailer showed Ian(McElhenney) and Poppy (Charlotte Nicdao) pitching a new game for a company while also taking their time to explore the Metaverse.
While Ian and Poppy left their old studio, that doesn’t mean the rest of the gang from Mythic Quest are twiddling their thumbs. We’re then shown how life is for David Brittlesbee (David Hornsby) now that he’s head of the studio, while Brad Bakshi (Danny Pudi) is demoted to janitor duties after season 2’s finale. We even get to see Ashly Burch’s Rachel driving a tank, and who doesn’t want to see the woman behind Tiny Tina driving a tank?
While Ubisoft gave no release date, the Third Season of Mythic Quest is scheduled to arrive exclusively on Apple TV sometime later this year. For more info, be sure to check back to Twinfinite for updates.
There should also be some more Ubisoft-related content down below that you may find helpful, as well as some other news for the games, television shows, and movies announced this weekend. 25 Best Family Gifts For The Holidays In 2022 Womans Day
25 Best Family Gifts For The Holidays In 2022 – Woman’s Day https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/25-best-family-gifts-for-the-holidays-in-2022-womans-day/
Purchasing affordable gifts for families can be a fun online shopping experience, but one that requires thoughtful consideration. Whether you’re buying for your own nuclear unit, extended family you haven’t visited in years, non-traditional clans or ones consisting of varying age groups, finding the right gifts for families can be a bit challenging. Not sure where to start? We’re here to help.
First things first, think about what you know they enjoy doing together. For example, do they take pleasure in cooking, participating in outdoor activities or binge-watching movies? Once you’ve narrowed their favorite pastimes, factor in their ages. Keep in mind that what may be a good gift for older people, may not work for others. For instance, a growing family with a newborn may not find any use for a gift that requires reading or any engagement beyond the adult members, while a family with teens may not find any joy in a gift geared more towards younger children.
Simply put, choosing the perfect gifts for families is all about factoring in their unique personalities and carefully considering their individual members. Ideally, universally appealing gifts are always a good way to go. Remember, you want to buy something that the entire family can enjoy and use to create lasting memories. Whether you’re willing to splurge are more inclined to give more inexpensive gifts, we’ve got you covered.

Payments Firm Bolt Scraps Deal To Acquire Crypto Company Wyre – Bitcoin News – Bitcoin News https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/payments-firm-bolt-scraps-deal-to-acquire-crypto-company-wyre-bitcoin-news-bitcoin-news/
California-based online payments company Bolt is pulling out of an agreement to buy crypto provider Wyre. The news of the scrapped deal, which was agreed to earlier this year, comes amid plunging valuations in the crypto and fintech sectors.
Bolt Gives Up Plan for $1.5 Billion Wyre Acquisition
Bolt Financial, a U.S. technology company headquartered in San Francisco, said Friday it had scrapped a deal to buy crypto infrastructure provider Wyre Payments, Reuters reported on Saturday. A definitive agreement to acquire Wyre for a reported $1.5 billion was announced by the e-commerce platform in early April.
The deal was considered one of the largest crypto business acquisitions this year. After a funding round in January, Bolt was last valued at $11 billion. The report notes, however, that high tech valuations have since come under increased pressure as investor sentiment was hit by recession fears and negative developments in the equity markets.
Payments processor Stripe and fintech Klarna Bank have also taken significant valuation cuts, Reuters pointed out. Industry valuations have dropped significantly in the crypto sector as well during the market slump in the past months.
In a released statement, Bolt emphasized it will continue its partnership with Wyre. The online checkout firm elaborated that remaining independent would allow it to focus on its core areas of business. Company CEO Maju Kuruvilla was quoted as stating:
We will continue our existing commercial partnership with Wyre to pave the path of crypto integration into our ecosystem, bringing Wyre’s innovative crypto infrastructure to the world.
Wyre offers blockchain-connected payment APIs and fiat-to-crypto onramps, foreign exchange, and cryptocurrency liquidity to users of various crypto projects. It was established in 2013 and like Bolt, which was founded a year later, is headquartered in San Francisco.

Iga Swiatek Holds Off Ons Jabeur To Win First U.S. Open Title – Los Angeles Times https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/iga-swiatek-holds-off-ons-jabeur-to-win-first-u-s-open-title-los-angeles-times/
NEW YORK —
Iga Swiatek of Poland affirmed her ranking as the No. 1 women’s tennis player in the world, fighting off a spirited late push from No. 5 Ons Jabeur of Tunisia to win her first U.S. Open title and third Grand Slam singles championship with a 6-2, 7-6 (5) victory Saturday at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Swiatek, 21, was relentless on her returns in the early going, keeping everything in play and hitting the ball deep enough to limit Jabeur’s chances to unleash her trademark creativity. Jabeur, the first African woman to reach the U.S. Open final in the Open Era — which started in 1968 — was clearly frustrated by Swiatek’s superb court coverage and ability to dictate the pace in the first set.
Throughout the tournament, Swiatek had said she was improving but hadn’t hit her peak. She got there Saturday, breaking Jabeur’s serve on her first and third chances in the opening set and again in the eighth game to wrap up the set in 30 minutes.
Jabeur became frustrated when she couldn’t get anything in her arsenal to work, throwing her racket in the second game of the second set when she tried a drop shot that fell short. Swiatek won the game for a 2-0 lead. However, Jabeur found her footing to pull even at 4-4, swinging more freely. With a great effort, she saved a championship point and leveled the set at 6-6.
Jabeur built a 5-4 lead in the tiebreak, with the crowd cheering her on, but Swiatek hit a forehand winner and benefitted when Jabeur hit two errant forehands. When it ended, Swiatek dropped to her back on the court in disbelief, but she had earned her triumph by not folding when the pressure on her was most intense.
Swiatek, a two-time winner at the French Open, will earn $2.6 million for her triumphant run at Flushing Meadows. Jabeur, who also lost the Wimbledon final this year, will receive $1.3 million. They will rank 1-2 when new rankings are issued Monday.
Swiatek inarguably is a big match player: She has reached 10 finals in her career and has won each in straight sets.
The U.S. Open will end Sunday, with Carlos Alcaraz of Spain facing Casper Ruud of Norway for the men’s title and the No. 1 world ranking.
Neither has won a Grand Slam singles title before. Only Ruud has played in a Slam final, losing to Rafael Nadal in straight sets at this year’s French Open. The quick, acrobatic Alcaraz, 19, has played three straight five-set matches at Flushing Meadows (against Marin Cilic, Jannik Sinner, and in Friday’s semifinals against American Frances Tiafoe) but somehow hasn’t looked tired. “I feel great,” he said after his late-night win over Tiafoe. “Right now I’m just so, so happy. I thought about a young man like 10 years ago dreaming for this moment right now.”

Shawn Shipman rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns to power St. Thomas (MN) to a 32-6 victory over Division II-member Michigan Tech on Saturday.
Shipman scored on a 1-yard run on the first possession for St. Thomas (1-1) and capped off the first half with a 1-yard TD run in the final minute to give the Tommies a 26-3 lead at intermission.
St. Thomas holder Kolby Gartner kept the ball on a field-goal attempt and scored on an 11-yard run to push the Tommies’ lead to 32-3 after three quarters.
Cade Sexauer completed 8 of 17 passes for 91 yards, including a 33-yard scoring strike to Andrew McElroy in the second quarter.
Drew Wyble kicked two field goals for the Huskies.

The Duke of Norfolk who serves as The Earl Marshal for the death of the sovereign and the accession of the new monarch confirmed the news in a statement today (Saturday, September 10).
The late monarch’s coffin is currently draped in the Royal Standard and has been placed in the ballroom at Balmoral Castle where her family and staff can pay their respects. It is understood that Her Majesty will then be moved to the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh before being taken back to London on the royal train.

The Duke of Norfolk has confirmed that The Queen’s funeral is set for 11am on Monday, September 19 at Westminster Abbey. The monarch’s coffin will travel back to London from Scotland over the next couple of days. Her Majesty The Queen will lie in state at Westminster Hall for four days following her return to London, much in the same way that her father, King George VI did in 1952 and her mother, The Queen Mother, did in 2002.
His Majesty The King paid tribute to his late mother during his first televised address to the nation yesterday (Friday, September 9) and said: “We owe her the most heartfelt debt any family can owe to their mother; for her love, affection, guidance, understanding and example.”
Earlier today, The Prince of Wales also offered his first written statement about his grandmother’s life and influence. “On Thursday, the world lost an extraordinary leader, whose commitment to the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth was absolute. So much will be said in the days ahead about the meaning of her historic reign.
“I, however, have lost a grandmother. And while I will grieve her loss, I also feel incredibly grateful. I have had the benefit of The Queen’s wisdom and reassurance into my fifth decade. My wife has had 20 years of her guidance and support. My three children have got to spend holidays with her and create memories that will last their whole lives.”

The Ohio State Buckeyes will play host again and welcome the Arkansas State Red Wolves to Ohio Stadium, where kick-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. ET on Saturday.
The Buckeyes had a touchdown and change to spare in a 21-10 win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish last week. OSU relied on the efforts of RB Miyan Williams, who punched in one rushing touchdown, and QB C.J. Stroud, who passed for two TDs and 223 yards on 34 attempts.
Meanwhile, Arkansas State turned the game against the Grambling State Tigers into a track meet and took the gold after outgaining them 574 yards to 100. Arkansas State was totally in charge last week, breezing past Grambling State 58-3 at home. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 30 to nothing. Arkansas State QB James Blackman was slinging it as he passed for two TDs and 210 yards on 21 attempts in addition to punching in two rushing touchdowns.
Arkansas State’s defense was a presence as well, as it got past the Tigers’ offensive line to sack the quarterback five times for a total loss of 55 yards. It was a group effort with four guys contributing.
Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 1-0. Watch the matchup and check back on CBS Sports to find out who keeps up the positive energy and who hits a stumbling block.

6 Stocks For Investing In Crypto Mining And The Metaverse Long-Term Forbes
6 Stocks For Investing In Crypto Mining And The Metaverse Long-Term – Forbes https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/6-stocks-for-investing-in-crypto-mining-and-the-metaverse-long-term-forbes/
Getty Images
Key Takeaways
Leaving cryptocurrency and the metaverse out of your portfolio entirely could mean missing out on two of the largest potential growth markets of a generation.
A snapshot look at META, U, MSFT, RIOT, SQ, NVDA and Q.ai’s bitcoin breakout kit.
Cryptocurrency and the metaverse are new and unproven markets, meaning riskier in the short-term but promising for long-term investors. For the bullish, that would mean these stocks could make up 5-10% of your portfolio.
Both the metaverse and cryptocurrency have seen major setbacks this year. The strengthening U.S. dollar has hit the profit margins of tech companies particularly hard, as these companies tend to do a lot of international business.
On top of this, public enthusiasm for the metaverse and crypto has waned in recent months, as more people step away from their screens and back into the ‘real world.’ The crypto market experienced a crash that disillusioned the public at large.
But these hits to the market may make this a good time to buy low if you’re a believer. If the metaverse becomes everything Mark Zuckerburg dreams it will be, prices for buying into this market are notably lower than they have been in years.
If crypto rebounds or ever becomes mainstream, stocks in related companies are currently lower than they have been since before the big crypto surge in late 2020 and early 2021.
If you buy into either of these markets taking off over the long-term, here are some of the top stocks to watch.
META
Naturally, one of the first stocks one thinks of when it comes to the metaverse is Meta (META). Facebook’s parent company has invested a good deal in its rebrand and focus on VR. If Zuckerburg’s judgment can be trusted and the metaverse does take off, you’ll be hard-pressed to find another company that’s so heavily invested in becoming the consumer platform of choice.
In the short-term, however, Meta’s Reality Labs lost $10.2 billion in 2021 and $5.8 billion in the first half of 2022. It’s important to remember that Meta isn’t just Facebook’s version of the metaverse – it also includes Facebook itself, Instagram, and Whatsapp. Even if VR never takes off, the company is diversified enough that it may be able to take the blow.
The stock took a nosedive in February 2022 after Apple implemented new user privacy measures for iOS users. These changes made it harder for advertisers to dive deep into consumer demographics, which is the primary reason advertisers are attracted to Facebook’s platform.
The change is estimated to cost the company $10 billion in revenue this year alone. META has yet to recover and put forth a comprehensible strategy in response. If the company can pivot and mend its revenue streams, this may be a good time for long-time investors to consider buying shares.
MSFT
The consumer market isn’t the only metaverse market. The U.S. military is getting in on AR, too, and they’ve contracted Microsoft to make them Hololens headsets. Microsoft also has an OS called Mesh – think Windows 10 for XR. With military contracts and one of the leading XR operating systems, Microsoft can’t be ignored as a potential metaverse investment option.
Microsoft has seen share prices dip after a rally that lasted nearly two years. Aided by the pandemic, much of the sustained MSFT rally was due to so many companies running their operations remotely, increasing the need for cloud services.
However, the strong U.S. dollar has threatened Microsoft’s projected profits this year, and its Hololens was on shaky ground in early 2022, putting its military contract in question. While they have since recovered and brought the product up to expectations, the temporary question mark was one of the many factors that caused the slide in investor confidence.
While it’s true that MSFT is down compared to this time last year, it’s still up compared to pre-pandemic numbers. At the end of December 2019, the stock was only trading for $158.96. Compare that to the current ‘slump’ price of $256.06 in early September 2022, and you can see that the company is still in relatively good standing in the eyes of investors.
U
Unity (U) creates software that allows developers to build apps. In 2021 there were 5 billion downloads of apps built using Unity software. As the metaverse grows, Unity stands to rake in even more as its framework is compatible with 3D programming. It also helps app developers run in-app ads.
Unity is another software company that was hit by the strong U.S. dollar. There have also been issues with the algorithm that provides its ad services, which have led to further pricing drops. At its November 2021 peak, U was trading for $196.65. In September of 2022, its price is only $40.79. Since May of 2022, it has been trading lower than its initial IPO pricing from September 2020.
If Unity can fix its algorithm, this could be a great time to buy into a huge company with considerable market share. If it cannot, things might get worse from here.
RIOT
Riot Blockchain Inc. is one of the largest Bitcoin miners in America. Cryptocurrency, like every other commodity, is all about supply and demand. Should demand for cryptocurrency see a resurgence, mining operations will be integral to meeting demand.
Another thing that makes RIOT attractive to certain investors is its effort to be more ‘green’ than the competition as its operations are powered by renewable energy.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, RIOT shares sat below $10 until December of 2020. When the cryptocurrency frenzy began at the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021, shares skyrocketed to $71.33. Today, prices have settled back down to $6.33.
In America, cryptocurrency markets remain largely unregulated. That makes any associated investment riskier than your typical long-term, buy-and-hold stock. But if crypto ever truly becomes a more mainstream, stable currency, you could see investments in this arena have a huge payoff. Being able to stomach the extreme risks and pricing swings is a must, though.
SQ
Square has rebranded itself, now carrying the name Block Inc (SQ). It facilitates many online transactions, and is making big moves when it comes to normalizing cryptocurrency transactions.
For example, Block allows users to directly transfer money, receive paychecks and pay bills with cryptocurrency via Cash App, and it is making moves to add this functionality to digital wallets at large. It is also involved in mining operations.
If cryptocurrency becomes commonplace, Block is in a unique position to facilitate these transactions without consumers needing to knowingly interact with a third-party intermediary.
SQ is also a slightly safer investment over other options like RIOT, as Block doesn’t exclusively deal with cryptocurrency. It also deals with ‘real’ currencies, so if the crypto market never surges back, the company may still has room to pivot accordingly.
You can trace the 2020/2021 surge in cryptocurrency in SQ’s stock prices. At its height in February 2021, SQ was trading for $276.57. Prior to the pandemic, it was trading at $83.33. Today, it sits at $66.33 in September 2022. While these are some major fluctuations, Block’s diversified business model is reflected in a much higher base price than many other crypto stocks.
NVDA
Beneath the consumer experience of the metaverse lies technology like the chips manufactured by Nvidia Corp. (NVDA). Nvidia chips are also heavily utilized by bitcoin mining operations.
Because the company is so closely tied to crypto mining and metaverse trends, it hasn’t had a great year. It started 2022 at $301.21, and is sitting at $136.47 as of Sept. 4.
There are several factors contributing to revenue loss, and therefore stock value, including the crypto crash, a reduction in consumer demand for gaming systems, and an overall lull in excitement over the metaverse.
Nvidia is well-rounded, though, and has been making up some of its losses with a new arm of its business dedicated to manufacturing electric vehicles. If we see a surge in interest in crypto or the metaverse in the future, Nvidia stock is likely to bounce back in a big way if it can maintain its position as the primary manufacturer of the underlying hardware.
Managing Risk in the Cryptocurrency and Metaverse Markets
Cryptocurrency and the metaverse are new and unproven markets. That makes them riskier for long-term investors by comparison. However, leaving them out of your portfolio entirely could mean missing out on two of the largest potential growth markets of our generation, depending on how things pan out.
For that reason, you might want to take advantage of investing tools that can help you plan for the long-term, while also shorting these market segments in case things go south, like Q.ai’s Bitcoin Breakout Kit.

Parent-Teacher Organizations Arent Only For The Kids The News-Herald
Parent-Teacher Organizations Aren’t Only For The Kids – The News-Herald https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/parent-teacher-organizations-arent-only-for-the-kids-the-news-herald/
By TRACEE M. HERBAUGH
They’re known at school as the group of parents who orchestrate everything from Halloween parties to book fairs, but a parent-teacher organization isn’t just for the kids.
Parents join a PTO for all kinds of reasons. It has helped some revitalize career skills, share passions, find job opportunities, and assuage the middle-age friend desert, all while making sure the kids have fun.
“I thought it was important for my kids to see I thought they were important and that their education was important,”′ said Judy Walters, 54, of central New Jersey, recalling her stay-at-home-mom days raising two little girls. “But really, I wanted to meet people and have a life.”
The PTO was where Walters met some of the people she still considers best friends. “I got close to a number of my room-mom people, and I met a lot of parents who I wasn’t close to but still really liked and enjoyed,” she says.
PTO is a common acronym for the group of parents and teachers who work together to fundraise, plan activities and provide extra enrichment for students. The term can be used interchangeably with the Parent Teacher Association, a national nonprofit headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, or the PTC, or parent-teacher council.
As kids return to school this fall, you might see flyers or emails pleading for parents to get involved. PTOs play an important role as school boards face tough budget choices, particularly for “extras” non directly related to the curriculum.
Especially as schools and families emerge from pandemic lockdowns, people are looking for ways to connect. PTOs can provide that at a time in life when making new friends typically slows down because of work and family.
Sara Dean, 46, signed up for her school’s PTA, nervous about assimilating into what she saw as an established group. But by spring, she was happy to have made new friends.
Dean hosts the podcast “The Shameless Mom Academy,” which discusses women’s empowerment, and balancing parenthood and work. She devoted an episode to what she learned from working as the PTA president at her child’s school outside Seattle.
“The opportunities for bonding happen quicker,” she said of working on the PTA. “There is more comradery and ease of building relationships that I wasn’t expecting but that was a lovely experience.”
She also didn’t expect to pick up career-building skills.
Dean was used to working independently, as a writer and podcast host and producer. As PTA president, she was thrown into building teams, helping everyone get along, and finding resolutions to problems the school faced — skills that could easily translate into corporate America or the world of nonprofits.
“That’s not why I signed up but it’s a benefit that is really cool,” she said.
The same goes for Colleen Nolan, 46, of Newton, Massachusetts. The eight years she spent working various roles on an elementary school PTO led, she said, to two nonprofit board positions — at a city food bank and a neighborhood improvement group — and a paid, part-time position as a records keeper.
“I met people in the neighborhood and, over the years, they recognized me as someone who was a `doer,’” Nolan said. “People saw me as someone who could answer questions and they used me as a resource.”
Many parents bring their passion projects to the PTO, said Andy Garlick, an elementary school principal in Needham, Massachusetts. These might include personal finance, diversity, or cultural customs from another country, for example. Parents bring what they know to the table.
“There’s a lot of people who want to use the minimal free time they have to do good in their community,” he said.
There are criticisms and jokes, of course. In the 2018 comedy “Bad Moms,” Christina Applegate and Mila Kunis spar over who is the better PTA presidential candidate. And the Netflix series “Ginny & Georgia” shows a snooty mother from “Wellsbury, Massachusetts” arguing with an outsider from Texas about how to best raise money for the PTA.
In reality, wealthy neighborhoods tend to have far more parental involvement and fundraising power than areas without such affluence. This leads to more enrichment opportunities for students, and more educational necessities like books or tech gadgets. Some argue it compounds inequities in the U.S.
And PTO parents often spend their own money. Some organizations have dues and others don’t, but many parent volunteers end up paying for projects and events.
Kimberly Rae Miller, 39, of Suffolk County, New York, joined the PTA to become more involved and was surprised to find how much money it required out of her own pocket.
But, she said, “If you have the time and financial resources to participate, it’s a great way to have access to a part of your children’s life that you don’t always have access to.”

Associated Press
NEW YORK — US Open semifinalist Frances Tiafoe pulled out of the United States team that will play group stage matches in the Davis Cup next week in Glasgow, Scotland.
The U.S. Tennis Association announced Tiafoe’s withdrawal Saturday.
Tiafoe, a 24-year-old from Maryland who was seeded 22nd at Flushing Meadows, became the first American man to get to the US Open semifinals since Andy Roddick was the tournament runner-up in 2006.
Roddick was the last man from the country to win any Grand Slam tournament when he earned the trophy in New York three years before that.
Tiafoe’s run ended with a five-set loss to No. 3 seed Carlos Alcaraz, a 19-year-old from Spain. Alcaraz will meet No. 7 seed Casper Ruud of Norway in Sunday’s final, with the winner collecting his first Grand Slam title and rising to No. 1 in the ATP rankings for the first time.
Captivating crowds in Arthur Ashe Stadium with his superb play and unbridled enthusiasm, Tiafoe reached the second major quarterfinal of his career by eliminating Rafael Nadal in the fourth round in New York and ending the 22-time Slam champion’s 22-match unbeaten run at major tournaments.
Tiafoe followed that up by defeating No. 9 seed Andrey Rublev to get to the semifinals.
“Obviously, through my career, I’ve been pretty sporadic [at] playing well [then] veering off for a while,” Tiafoe said. “I’ve always backed myself against the best players in the world. I’m doing it on a consistent basis, starting to beat guys more readily. Ready to take the next step.”
The USTA said Tiafoe would not be replaced on the Davis Cup roster for the Americans, who will start by facing Britain on Wednesday. The other U.S. players are Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul, Jack Sock and Rajeev Ram.
U.S. Davis Cup captain Mardy Fish will miss the trip to Scotland because he got COVID-19, and Bob Bryan will fill in as acting captain. Bryan was a member of the U.S. squad that won the Davis Cup in 2007.
Britain’s team is expected to include three-time major champion Andy Murray and Dan Evans, who is ranked 23rd this week.
Davis Cup group stage matches also will be held in Bologna, Italy; Valencia, Spain; and Hamburg, Germany, from Tuesday through Sept. 18.
The top two teams from each group advance to the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga, Spain, on Nov. 22-27.

DURHAM, N.C. — Senior Daniel Azallion recorded his first top-20 of the season to lead the Virginia Tech men’s golf team to a 10th-place showing at the Rod Myers Invitational, which concluded Saturday at Duke University Golf Club (par 72, 7,154 yards).
Azallion amassed 11 birdies over the two-day event to tie for 11th at 1-under 215 (72-70-73). Leading the Hokies for the second straight tournament, Azallion finished just one shot outside the top 10. Tech totaled an 18-over 882 (298-291-293) as a team.
Junior Charlie Hanson matched Azallion with 11 birdies for the Hokies to place 34th at 5-over 221. The Richmond, Virginia native got off to a hot start in Sunday’s final round, making the turn at 4-under 32.
Sophomore David Stanford tied for 37th at 8-over 224 following an even-par 72 in his final round. Junior Kobe Valociek (225) and freshman Mehrbaan Singh (232) tied for 43rd and 69th, respectively, to round out Tech’s lineup.
Behind a 1-2 finish at the top of the individual leaderboard, Alabama cruised to the team victory at 13-under 851 (289-281-281). Tournament host Duke took runner-up at 2-under 862, followed by Charlotte at 1-under 863.
The Crimson Tide’s Canon Claycomb cruised to a six-shot victory over his teammate Thomas Ponder for medalist honors. Claycomb signed for an 11-under 205 (69-71-65), while Ponder returned a 5-under 211 (71-69-71). In all, Alabama placed three of its golfers in the top three of the standings.
Tech is next in action at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, Oct. 9-11, at Blackthorn Club in Jonesborough, Tennessee.

Robson Ranch Rambler – September 2022 – The Cross Timbers Gazette https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/robson-ranch-rambler-september-2022-the-cross-timbers-gazette/
Ah… a perfect day. I wake up and feel rested. I exercise and then I eat good food. I spend time with friends and laugh. I sit sipping a cocktail with my husband on our patio on a beautiful day. At day’s end, I go to sleep with no regrets. At Robson Ranch, we have so many ways to create our perfect day.
Gardening provides a workout, a challenge and pure enjoyment when everything is in bloom. And to a few, bragging rights. The recent “yard of the month” showcases flagstone pathways and a water feature to create a cool, welcoming backyard retreat. Oakleaf hydrangea, canna, hibiscus, crepe myrtles, oaks and Mexican petunia create the color palette.
Being surrounded by family is high on the list for a perfect day. The Women’s Club is hosting Grandparents’ Day on Sunday, Sept. 11, for the grandchildren and entire family for an afternoon of live music, children’s games, face painting, cupcakes, and more!
We have many ways to get moving on the Ranch. Softball season is up and running. All eight co-ed and three senior league teams play weekly culminating in the Fall Championships to be held Oct. 29.
Dance Club sponsors quarterly dances with fun themes. Next up is a boot scootin’ country and western dance party, “Deep in the Heart of Texas!”
With the cooler weather in September, Robson Ranch golf clubs are in full swing with daily neighborly competitions. We have one resident who takes moving to new heights as she competes in marathon-type stair climbing events in the U.S. and internationally.
Music is a key ingredient to a perfect day. UNT College of Music Jazz students will return to Robson Ranch in September. The world class Jazz Studies Department students will fill the evening with beautiful music. The Southlake Swing Band, 20-piece “Big Band” with singer, trumpets, ‘bones, saxes, and rhythm section, will make its first appearance here at Robson Ranch in September for a Sunday afternoon Big Band Jazz Concert, providing music for our dancing and listening pleasure.
Cool cocktails on a hot (or cold) Texas day can add the finishing touches to a perfect day. The Rock and Roll Martini group at Robson Ranch finds new ways each month to drink to a wide range of performers with appropriately themed drinks. In recent months they honored The Beach Boys, ZZ Top and Sinatra. In their words, “Rock On.”
Each day is a gift, and I am grateful to live in a community where we do our best to make it a great one.
Heres Everything You Can Do At Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser TheTravel
Here’s Everything You Can Do At Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser – TheTravel https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/heres-everything-you-can-do-at-star-wars-galactic-starcruiser-thetravel/
In a galaxy far, far away (but luckily accessible through Disney World in Orlando, Florida), a vacation unlike any other on the planet awaits Star Wars fans and enthusiasts. Disney’s Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser did, in fact, arrive to take travelers and skywalkers to the edge of the galaxy and into a fully-immersive, unique, and personalized Star Wars adventure. For three days and two nights, passengers of the Galactic Starcruiser ship Halcyon will travel through the stars, train with lightsabers, learn how to pilot a ship, meet their favorite Star Wars characters, choose the dark or the light side, get intergalactic dining experiences, and get to know folks from all over the universe, contributing however they choose to their very own Star Wars story.
Disney’s Immersive Star Wars Hotel Experience
Disney’s ambitious Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser came to change the way the world views a thematic vacation. Set to open in 2020 but delayed due to the pandemic, the attraction finally launched in March 2022 to the excitement of Star Wars fans of all ages.
The experience seeks to be somewhere between a themed hotel and an immersive theater, creating a Star Wars adventure tailored to each of the guests. Passengers will be taken by space shuttle to the hotel slash starcruiser ship Halcyon, where everything is on-theme and in-universe: from the soap dispensers and the droid AI in the cabins, the windows that pan out to the galaxy void, to the crew that stays in character the whole time, the ongoing, theatrical, interactive entertainment and even the specialized galactic cuisine. Supposed to be set in between the movies The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, the trips will feature Jedis, stormtroopers, sith lords, droids, and more – like an RPG dream come true.
What Can You Do At Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser?
With such an interactive premise, the voyage aboard Halcyon might seem a bit overwhelming, but the young padawans need not worry. Every passenger will receive a Star Wars Datapad special area to the Play Disney Parks app on their phones and a Starcruiser MagicBand, which will aid in accessing areas on the ship, learning and planning their personal itinerary, and receiving and completing missions.
Captain’s Muster
After settling into the rooms, space travelers will be called to the Captain’s Muster at the Atrium, where the crew will be introduced, as well as different passengers – including a tense surprise visit from the First Order – where your story really sets off.
Lightsaber Training
Passengers can hone their lightsaber skills in the interactive lightsaber training facilities, where the Saja (with a little extra guidance from Yoda) will guide and teach all who wish to learn the way of the force, with personal lightsabers and special Jedi lightsaber shields.
Bridge Training
On top of training in the ways of the force, Halcyon voyagers will get the chance to explore the ship’s working bridge and control room, learning how to navigate, pilot, control, and defend the starcruiser, a fun experience that may come in hand in case of any interplanetary scuffles.
Relax At The Sublight Lounge
The Sublight Lounge is Halcyon’s elegant lounge and bar, where passengers can relax, get a cosmic drink, and even play a little holo-sabacc (space poker like the one that lost Han Solo his Millennium Falcon). Alcoholic drinks need to be paid apart.
Explore Batuu At Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
On day 2 of the Galactic Starcruiser experience, travelers will be taken (again by space shuttle) to the planet of Batuu at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Galaxy’s Edge.
With special Starcruiser passenger pins and access, they’ll get to go to Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Rise of The Resistance rides as parts of the overall story, and special, personal missions like scavenger hunting and toy hacking will be available on each travelers’ Datapad. Time for a special lunch in Batuu and some galactic shopping in between missions will also be arranged.
Have An Interplanetary Cuisine Experience Every Day
Halcyon’s dining hall is the impressive Crown of Corellia room, where breakfast, lunch and dinner are served. The food is agreed across the board to be a highlight of the experience, with inventive, delicious gourmet cuisine inspired by various planets in the galaxy, from Mustafar bread and dips to Chandrila dessert.
There are snacks available all day – including blue and green milk on the tap. Dinner also features special performances from galactic superstar Gaya!
Live Out And Interact With Your Very Own Star Wars Adventure
The interactive entertainment is ongoing throughout the whole trip, with different possible missions and activities happening simultaneously.
The possibilities are endless, from droid racing to making a deal with smugglers to feeding information to the first order to helping Chewie and Rey sneak past the First Order stormtroopers. The experience is what you make of it, and truly being immersed in the story and interacting with other passengers is what will elevate the whole interstellar vacation.
Pay attention to your surroundings, as well as your Datapad and interact with the actors – you never know when an adventure will present itself!
Is The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Worth It?
Disney’s Galactic Starcruiser runs at an average of 5,000 to 6,000 USD – which is quite a salty price for a 2-day vacation. For those looking for a relaxing SciFi-flavored cruise, it might not be the best choice. However, what visitors are paying for is to be part of a real-life Star Wars story, one that demands playful immersion and a lot of activity; though that certainly won’t be for everyone, it is a one-of-a-kind experience. It’s also worth noting that the price is paid per room, and each cabin sleeps up to 5 people.
The package includes:
Two-night stay at the Halcyon cabins
Your own Star Wars Magicband
Admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
Food and beverages for the whole trip (excluding alcohol)
Ongoing, all-day immersive entertainment
City Approves Ordinance Amendment For Neighborhood Businesses Three Rivers Commercial-News
City Approves Ordinance Amendment For Neighborhood Businesses – Three Rivers Commercial-News https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/city-approves-ordinance-amendment-for-neighborhood-businesses-three-rivers-commercial-news/

Robert Tomlinson, News Director
THREE RIVERS — More types of businesses will now be allowed to apply for special exception use permits (SEUs) in Three Rivers’ residential districts.
On Tuesday, the Three Rivers City Commission approved an ordinance amendment for the city code following a public hearing that will allow for consideration of different “neighborhood businesses” in the SEU process for all of the residential-zoned districts in the community. That also includes the R-3, R-4, and R-5 residential-zoned districts in the city, the single-and-two-family residential district, medium-density residential district, and high-density residential districts respectively.
Specifically, the businesses to be allowed for SEU consideration under the ordinance amendment include personal service shops such as barber shops, beauty salons and tailors; specialty food stores, such as bakeries, coffee shops, delis, and take-out food; and product/commodity sales, such as specialty grocery stores, bookstores, florists, and music/video stores.
The ordinance would also expand the potential area for professional businesses and administrative offices to be considered for SEUs within an existing commercial building in residential districts. Daycare centers will also be considered as SEUs in R-2 zoning districts, and will remain as conditional uses in R-3, R-4, and R-5 districts.
Currently, the ordinance allows for certain business types, such as accounting and other professional offices in the residential districts.
City officials say the ordinance amendment will “benefit local neighborhoods with more amenities” and help fill vacant commercial buildings in the area.
First District Commissioner Pat Dane was a bit trepidacious about the amendment at first, wondering if it meant businesses in general would be allowed in residential districts, and “taking away residential areas.” Planning Liaison John Beebe clarified the situation surrounding the amendment and what the goals of it are.
“It’s really targeted at more the special or unique properties that happen to be located in a residential district like 1020 Millard, 117 Spring St., and where Great Lakes Technology used to be on Lincoln,” Planning Liaison John Beebe said. “They’re completely surrounded by residential, they already have off-street parking, they potentially meet a lot of the provisions you need to have a business there, but they can’t re-zone it because it would be spot zoning, so there’s no process and no ability for them to move forward.”
Beebe said the ordinance doesn’t “automatically permit” businesses to set up in residential districts, just that it creates a pathway through the Planning Commission and the City Commission and ask about placing a business in the area through the SEU permit process.
Mayor Tom Lowry said the path for home-occupation type businesses is still available for some businesses as well, which is a separate issue than the one being discussed. Beebe said, in the example of a beauty salon, one done under a home occupation wouldn’t be the same thing as a “commercial beauty salon,” like what was originally planned for 1020 Millard St. at a Planning Commission meeting in August. He also said that with home occupations, and with SEU permits as well, residents within a 300-foot radius are notified of a public hearing about any potential home occupations or SEUs, and can have public input at meetings.
Tuesday’s approval by the city commission is significant because it theoretically paves the way for a proposed hair salon, possible office and upstairs apartment at 1020 Millard St., which was discussed at the Monday, Aug. 22 meeting of the Three Rivers Planning Commission. The request was submitted by Larry Piper of Clark Logic to either re-zone the property to a B-2 business property or wait for the amendment to the ordinance for R-5, which is what the property is zoned as now.
However, at their Tuesday, Aug. 30 meeting, St. Joseph County’s Community Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (CMH) board approved a five-year lease on that building to make it a satellite location for some of CMH’s services, making the fate of the salon/office/apartment project possibly uncertain.
A public hearing on the Clark Logic proposal in front of the Planning Commission is not expected until later this month.
The amendment was approved unanimously by the board, with Fourth District Commissioner Carolyn McNary and At-Large Commissioner Daryl Griffith not in attendance.
In other business…
Commissioners approved a special exception use permit for The G.O.A.T. Cannabis for 748 and 752 S. U.S. 131, in the strip mall in front of Meijer, for a marijuana retail business. The vote was 4-1, with Dane dissenting.
Commissioners approved a special exception use permit for Traditional Healing Arts at 145 W. Michigan Ave., which is leasing a 300-square foot space on the second floor of the building above L.A.’s Coffee Café for a massage establishment. The vote was 4-1, with Dane, who expressed concern the requestor was not present at Tuesday’s meeting, dissenting.
Commissioners set a public hearing for their Sept. 20 meeting to discuss an ordinance amendment consolidating the city’s R-3 and R-4 residential districts into a single medium-density residential zoning district.
Commissioners set a public hearing for their Sept. 20 meeting to discuss a PILOT program agreement for Woodbrook Senior Apartments to allow them to renovate the facility to like-new conditions. The proposed terms would be 7.5 percent of rents and an annual emergency services fee starting at $10,000 with a 2.5 percent increase per year. Lowry said this setup has been done by the city before with Riverside Townhouses.
A discussion was held by commissioners on a report on the performance of City Assessor Lydia Paille, as requested by both Lowry and Third District Commissioner Chris Abel. Both were concerned about inflexibility with property value assessments and whether or not the board of review for appeals was independent. The reports, from county Equalization Director Joshua Simmons and William Gast from the Michigan Department of Treasury, were positive toward Paille, with Paille providing her own report detailing assessments that have been disputed in the past year.

10 TV Heroes With Strange Weaknesses CBR Comic Book Resources
10 TV Heroes With Strange Weaknesses – CBR – Comic Book Resources https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/10-tv-heroes-with-strange-weaknesses-cbr-comic-book-resources/
Television is full of fantastic heroes. Some heroes are super with amazing powers, while others are more mundane without special abilities to rely on. Whatever the case, the show’s hero, will eventually succeed against their enemies and save the day.
However, saving the day isn’t always an easy task and, at times, seems unlikely for our heroes. This could be because the enemy is incredibly powerful or because the hero has some sort of weakness that is being exploited. Typically, heroes have some kind of weakness that deals directly with their powers or personality. Although, there are a few heroes out there who have very strange weaknesses that can totally incapacitate them.
10 He’s All That And More
Nickelodeon’s comedy sketch series All That had a superhero character that was a spoof of Superman named Superdude. Played by Kenan Thompson, Superdude looked nearly identical to Superman with a blue spandex suit, red cape, and signature hair curl, but instead of the iconic “S” on his chest Superdude had a “D.”
While having similar powers to Superman, Superdude had a different weakness. Superdude was lactose intolerant to an extreme degree. Dairy didn’t just cause digestive issues; it rendered Superdude completely powerless.
9 Sometimes The Most Powerful Weapon Comes In A Small Package
Although viewers of The Boys know that he isn’t a hero in every sense of the word, Black Noir is still a hero to the general public. Black Noir seems like a no-nonsense hero, working silently and taking down any enemy in his path.
Noir seems like he is indestructible, but he does have a strange weakness. Black Noir has a nut allergy. While nut allergies are common, seeing a food item take out a superhero is less so. There is a scene where Noir is incapacitated because Queen Maeve force-fed him an Almond Joy candy bar.
8 You Need The Right Fuel
Sportacus is a superhero from the children’s show LazyTown. Encouraging the citizens to eat healthy foods and get plenty of exercise, Sportacus is a shining example of living a healthy lifestyle. Sportacus’ goal is to ensure everyone in LazyTown is happy and healthy.
For all his fantastic athleticism, Sportacus can quickly be brought to a halt by one thing: eating processed sugar. If Sportacus eats any processed sugar, he experiences a severe sugar crash that he calls a “Sugar Meltdown.” It would seem like Sportacus to handle at least a little extra sugar for someone so athletic.
7 Try Your Hand At Magic
The Magicians is a fantasy television series filled with magic users of all kinds in a world straight from a children’s book. However, the magical world isn’t as kind in reality as in the book, and the series’ heroes must help protect the world using their abilities.
Magic seems like a relatively overpowered ability, but The Magicians have some drawbacks. One thing that can take a magic user out is damage to their hands. To cast spells, they must make hand signals; even if a hand is healed, the magic does not return to them.
6 Sometimes Powers Come And Go
Anyone who knows anything about Stranger Things knows that Eleven is a powerhouse. El has gone toe to toe with some of the series’ most dangerous enemies, using her psychokinetic powers to defeat them. However, even with her powers, things weren’t always easy for Eleven.
At the end of the third season, it appears that Eleven has lost her powers but isn’t sure why. The Mind Flayer had attacked her, and Dr. Brenner suggested that the attack had caused a stroke-like event in El. Of course, a stroke is a serious medical issue, but it is not often used as a hero’s weakness.
5 Listen To The Song Of The Canary
Sara Lance, also known as Canary, has been through the wringer in several shows in the Arrowverse. She survived a boat accident at sea, trained with the League of Assassins, died, was revived, and had multiple other things no one person should have to endure.
Sara has had her share of weaknesses as well. Her most recent weakness has been due to her alien DNA, which Sara received with her last revival. The alien DNA gave her regenerative healing powers, but once she became pregnant, her baby took the healing power away from her.
4 Go On An Interdimensional Journey
Morty Smith, one of the titular characters of Rick and Morty, is a teenage boy forced into wild adventures with his grandpa Rick Sanchez. Morty began the series as an extremely anxious and submissive person but has grown due to his many adventures.
However, Morty’s lack of self-confidence still comes into play and is his biggest weakness. This is especially true when it comes to love interests. Morty has caused serious issues in pursuit of love from others, including causing the entire Cronenberg catastrophe and having a human-Gazorpian baby.
3 Save The Planet With The Planeteers
In The New Adventures of Captain Planet, the spirit of the Earth sends five magic rings to young people across the planet to help save the Earth from destruction. When the power from the rings is combined, it creates the planet’s greatest hero, Captain Planet.
Captain Planet has the combined abilities of all the rings and is the ultimate hero in the fight against the planet’s destruction and pollution. Ironically, Captain Planet’s biggest weakness is pollution. Captain Planet is weakened by the very thing he is meant to destroy.
2 Try To Colonize A New World
Following a family of aliens who were forced to look for a new world to live on after an asteroid destroyed theirs, Solar Opposites has a cast of eccentric characters. The alien family consists of four aliens and one pupa that will eventually terraform the Earth.
The leader Korvo is an alien with a strange weakness. Since he is the leader, if the other aliens slack off on their duties to colonize the Earth, it causes Korvo to fall apart. Korvo begins to liquefy until everyone starts to perform their assigned duties.
1 Save The World One Patient At A Time
Originally brought to the big screen in Big Hero 6, Baymax has been given his own series and appeared in others. Baymax is a large, inflatable robot that serves as a “healthcare companion.” In his series, Baymax!, Baymax goes around helping those in need of medical attention.
Unfortunately, Baymax suffers from a couple of weaknesses. He is inflatable, so any sharp object could penetrate his skin, making him act like a drunk person. Also, he relies on battery power and needs to charge, a common weakness for electronics but not heroes.

Quinn Ewers injured
Texas star quarterback Quinn Ewers went down in the red zone after getting driven into the ground on a hit from Alabama linebacker Dallas Turner. With Ewers jumping in the air attempting to complete a pass, Turner tackled him and landed on Ewers’ body with Turner’s entire weight. He was subsequently called for a roughing the passer penalty as Ewers was helped off the field by trainers favoring his left shoulder. Hudson Card came in to replace Ewers with the Longhorns facing first-and-goal while trailing 10-3 in the first quarter.

Will Anderson gets offsides No. 3
That’s the third offsides penalty on Anderson in the first half. He doesn’t have the cadence right … but he thinks he might. In any case, it’s been a wild, quirky part of the first 30 minutes.

Bama’s offense just a little off
Outside of McClellen’s 81-yard run, not much has been in sync for the Crimson Tide offense. Jahmyr Gibbs has just 17 yards rushing on five attempts, and very little has been available up the middle in the teeth of the Texas defense. Just now, Bryce Young, who has been under some pressure today, just threw a pass behind his receiver, which would have been a first down. Texas’ defense obviously feels the need to step up, but outside of one play, Alabama’s offense just isn’t clicking.

Card unimpressive
Texas did not call its first passing play for Hudson Card until the fifth play of the drive while facing third-and-14. If there was any question about how much the staff trusts Card to throw downfield and react to pressure, the first pass was a swing pass to Roschon Johnson that went one yard and forced a punt. It makes sense to protect the jittery Card from the Alabama pass rush, but it’s difficult to imagine the Longhorns finding enough offense if everything is going to be underneath.

Texas D finding form
After tying the game, Texas’ defense has quickly started to build some confidence. Linebacker Jaylan Ford shot through the middle of the offensive line for a sack to force a punt and the Texas crowd has caused multiple issues leading to procedural penalties. Alabama’s receivers haven’t gotten free at all against a Longhorns defense that struggled last year in space. There’s a lot of game left, but Texas’ defense has done more than enough to compete.

DKR crowd affecting the Tide
That’s now three pre-snap penalties on Alabama, and the Tide are now down to just one timeout with more than 12 minutes still left in the second quarter. Alabama has made a living on blowing out opponents early in the season in neutral-site games, but the crowd at DKR is making sure this feels like a true road game. Alabama, the top-ranked team in the nation, is in an early battle and not having a fun time.

Texas ties it up
Start 2Q: Alabama 10, Texas 10
While the main story right now at DKR is the status of quarterback Quinn Ewers, the Longhorns did punch in a touchdown from Bijan Robinson to tie things up. Hudson Card is in at quarterback now, but attention will shift to the Longhorns defense moving forward. Alabama already has one long touchdown run in the first quarter, so we know how explosive the Crimson Tide can be. Texas will have to limit those big plays. Meanwhile, Ewers clearly has the live arm and can stretch the field, but Card must focus on moving the chains and putting points on the board.

Jase McClellan scooted around the outside for an 81-yard touchdown and the Tide are now up 10-3. Alabama has tried a bunch of sweeps early, and those are the kinds of big plays Texas’ defense has to avoid. Good blocking up front, but one missed tackle is all it took.

Texas takes advantage of mistakes
1Q: Alabama 3, Texas 3
The Longhorns have done a tremendous job of getting the ball to their playmakers in space and effectively neutralizing the elite Alabama front. Quinn Ewers has completed 6-of-9 passes to start the game for 68 yards, one of which was an obvious dropped touchdown by Xavier Worthy that will undoubtedly replay in Texas fans’ heads for the rest of the year. Will Anderson lined up offsides twice on the drive to ruin what could have been stops for the Crimson Tide’s defense, and Ewers made them pay.

Saban won’t be happy with pass defense
Texas is carving up Alabama through the air on its opening drive. Ewers has connected with four different receivers for 50 yards. Xavier Worthy probably should have had a touchdown over the top, but a drop took it off the board. The Longhorns are gonna sling it around and get their yards, but it’s also up to the Tide to get home to Ewers when he has time in the pocket like he does.

The Longhorns allowed Alabama to march 65 yards down the field with ease, but a Jase McClellan stumble and huge sack by linebacker Ovie Oghoufo forced the Crimson Tide to kick a 52-yard field goal. After allowing Jahmyr Gibbs to do whatever he wanted for half the first drive, the Longhorns adjusted and started to create pressure and negative plays down the stretch. The offense has to capitalize, but Texas showed real signs on defense in its first real opportunity.

The Crimson Tide’s first drive of the day ends with three points. Some nice plays in the running game, but Texas’ defense tees off on Bryce Young to get the drive-stalling sack. Have to count those as wins if you’re the Longhorns.

Alabama to start
The Crimson Tide get the ball to start, but in negative territory after a hold on the return. There’s a big opportunity for Texas to get a stop on first down and give its offense plus field position against the best team in the nation.

How Can Retailers Prep For The Metaverse? Here Are 3 First Steps Furniture Today
How Can Retailers Prep For The Metaverse? Here Are 3 First Steps – Furniture Today https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/how-can-retailers-prep-for-the-metaverse-here-are-3-first-steps-furniture-today/
Panelists Beck Besecker of Marxent, left; Michal Stachowski of Intiaro; and Preet Singh of Live Furnish shared their thoughts on how businesses can prepare for the rise of the Metaverse with Furniture Today’s Bill McLoughlin.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Fifteen years ago, few foresaw the way social media would impact day-to-day life and the way business is done now. As the Metaverse becomes more prevalent, many see signs that it will be in the future what social media is today.
So how can retailers make sure they don’t get left behind as the lines between the real world and the virtual, 3D world continue to blur? And what would be the first steps they can take to position themselves to capitalize?
Panelists at Furniture Today’s Innovation Event at the Innovation Quarter here offered three first steps that can be summed up as start small, get your internal house in order, and test and measure.
Beck Besecker, CEO of Marxent, said retailers interested in dipping their toes into the metaverse should start with augmented reality or a product configurator application. He suggested retailers populate those programs with bestsellers and large items because many consumers use AR as a way to test whether or not desired product will fit in their spaces.
“We’ve learned AR is proxy to a measuring tape. The quickest, fastest way (to get started) is best sellers and largest products,” Besecker said. “It’s a first step in, but you’ll learn so much about file formats and how to do QA and how to publish to the website. It’s a good first step.”
Michal Stachowski, chief visual officer of Intiaro, suggested that retailers make sure that they’re prepared internally before taking the leap and to engage with multiple tech providers to find the right fit.
“Look inside your organization. That’s the most important thing you can do to prep,” he said. “There are companies who can help and consult but the trick is someone has to be there to help lift the load. I see that a lot with smaller companies.”
Preet Singh, founder of Live Furnish, cited an example of using product that wasn’t selling well for a particular retailer. He said Live Furnish worked with the store to convert the imagery to 3D and revamped the way it was marketed and then watched over the next couple of months to see the difference.
“We picked products that weren’t doing well instead of bestsellers. We took low performing products, got them on 3D and helped with images and initial content,” Singh said. “For the next month and a half to two months, measure your stats and see how conversion changes. If conversion changes, we don’t have to teach you ROI. Start with the low-performing assets, build them up and test. You will see a difference.”

Parent-Teacher Organizations Arent Only For The Kids The Morning Journal
Parent-Teacher Organizations Aren’t Only For The Kids – The Morning Journal https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/parent-teacher-organizations-arent-only-for-the-kids-the-morning-journal/

Top Crypto Trader Predicts Sizeable Gains For Bitcoin (BTC) And Ethereum (ETH) – But There’s A Catch – The Daily Hodl https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/top-crypto-trader-predicts-sizeable-gains-for-bitcoin-btc-and-ethereum-eth-but-theres-a-catch-the-daily-hodl/
A popular crypto analyst thinks both Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) could capitalize on their recent momentum and move even higher.
The pseudonymous crypto trader known as Altcoin Sherpa tells his 182,800 Twitter followers that Bitcoin could soon surge by another 8% if it reaches $21,700.
“Squeeze came. $21,000ish hit. I think it’s best to take profit if you bought yesterday/last few days. this is an area of resistance and 200 exponential moving average on the 4-hour [chart]. If this goes higher, I like the $23,000 area (and $21,700 first).”

BTC is trading at $21,300 at time of writing. The top-ranked crypto asset by market cap is up more than 10% in the past 24 hours.
Still, Altcoin Sherpa doesn’t think BTC will witness double-digit gains and encourages traders to avoid becoming overly bullish.
“Play this level to level. Don’t expect 10%+ moves overall. Take profits and be patient. I doubt this is the overall macro bottom.”
Looking at Ethereum, the analyst thinks ETH is looking better than Bitcoin.
“I think this formed a decent bottom and the market structure on the lower timeframes still looks bullish. If the highs get cleared (watch out for double top in the short term), $2,500 could come.”

With ETH trading at $1,716 at time of writing, $2,500 would represent an increase of over 45%. The second-ranked crypto asset by market cap is up more than 5% in the past 24 hours.
