Instructor Tammy Sismondo, right, demonstrates use of the equipment, which was acquired with a grant from the Steubenville-based Mary Jane Brooks Charitable Trust. BLOOMINGDALE — Health technologies students at Jefferson County Joint Vocational School have a new virtual learning tool with the addition of an Anatomage table in their lab. Instructor Tammy Sismondo said the $71,000 table arrived at school’s end last spring but will be put to use this term to benefit students venturing into the health care field. The 6-foot-long table features a dual touchscreen surface which gives students a 3-D view of the various organs and system functions of the human body. “We got the table through a grant from the Mary Jane Brooks Charitable Trust,” Sismondo said. “It brings anatomy to life. We can do lectures and lab reviews and students can see how it looks in the actual body.” She continued that her 28 juniors and seniors can view more than 1,300 clinical cases from brain aneurysms to tumors as well as X-rays and virtual autopsies. Quizzes and games are included while the table even has images of animals that can be used for instruction in the small animal science program. JVS officials also acquired a large television screen to project the images and the equipment includes curriculum to aid instruction. Sismondo, who was grateful for the contribution by the Steubenville-based foundation, said the table provides the health tech program with a realistic, state-of-the-art approach to help students learn. “It’s amazing for enhancing their education. It’s different from a book because you are seeing the anatomy in 3-D,” Sismondo continued. “I was really excited to get it because it’s a nice, hands-on tool for students to use when they are learning foundational skills. It’s also a great surgical tech tool and students are good with technology and work with it all of the time.” Today’s breaking news and more in your inbox

This also contributes to our ongoing efforts to groom the next generation of tech talent who will eventually lead DBS in tapping new and emerging technologies to usher in the future of banking.” Yat Siu, Co-founder and Executive Chairman of Animoca Brands, said, “DBS has long been recognised as one of the most innovative banks across the world for its digital banking initiatives and the use of emerging technologies. We are absolutely thrilled to co-create the future of an open metaverse with DBS through this collaboration with our subsidiary The Sandbox.” Sebastien Borget, COO and Co-founder of The Sandbox, said, “We welcome DBS to The Sandbox as the first bank in Singapore to step into the open metaverse and join our efforts to create the SingaporeVerse, a neighbourhood on our virtual map that will bring the culture of Singapore to life in the metaverse in a very engaging, equitable, inclusive way that is open to all. The bank has also enhanced individual customers’ access to ESG investments and launched a LiveBetter platform to enable them to lead more sustainable lifestyles.- Responsible Business Practices – DBS has been actively embedding ESG considerations into its business operations. The bank has set a target of achieving net zero operational carbon by the end of 2022 and has committed 100 per cent of its new suppliers to its Sustainable Sourcing Principles.- Impact Beyond Banking – DBS also seeks to be a force for good by building lasting relationships with customers and positively impacting communities through supporting social enterprises. In 2014, DBS established the DBS Foundation (DBSF) to catalyse regional social entrepreneurship. In 2021, the bank committed an additional SGD 100 million to a new chapter of the foundation to do more to address the region’s increasingly pressing societal issues. With the latest chapter, the bank hopes to ramp up efforts to create social good and help pave the way for a more equitable world. The bank aims for DBS BetterWorld to be an additional engagement platform for visitors to access The Sandbox and learn more about prevailing ESG concerns. For instance, DBS will use the platform to profile social entrepreneurs in Asia who have been driving positive impact through innovative business models. Since 2014, DBS and the DBSF have helped over 800 social enterprises scale their businesses and awarded over SGD 10 million in grants to close to 100 social enterprises. Additionally, DBS will work with partners and collaborators from the Government, community, business, and technology sectors to develop meaningful concepts to enrich the DBS BetterWorld experience. DBS will also explore opportunities to showcase DBS BetterWorld with LiveBetter, a one-stop digital platform that the bank launched in October 2021 to encourage more eco-conscious living among its customers. Through LiveBetter, the bank’s customers can easily access a suite of tools to help shift towards a more sustainable way of life, including handy eco-friendly tips, channels to donate to sustainability causes, and investment opportunities in sustainability-themed funds. I Made ‘healthy’ Fish And Chips From Scratch In My Air Fryer And Couldn’t Believe How Easy It Was – Birmingham Live https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/i-made-healthy-fish-and-chips-from-scratch-in-my-air-fryer-and-couldnt-believe-how-easy-it-was-birmingham-live/ At a time where the cost of living crisis is making even a necessity like cooking expensive thanks to soaring energy costs, I couldn’t love my air fryer more. It uses around 50% less energy than using an electric or gas oven and you can cook pretty much anything in it. There’s little I love more on a Friday night than fish and chips, so I thought I’d give it a go myself in my air fryer . Air fryers also make food with about 75% less fat, thanks to the rapid air circulation which doesn’t need oil to give that crispy fried effect. I’ve only made fish and chips a few times before, and always shallow fried in a frying pan. The ingredients are pretty simple and the method takes around 45 minutes start to finish. Read more: I cooked a ‘healthy’ roast dinner in my air fryer – and the results were not what I expected at all Here is how I did it in my Ninja air fryer . Ingredients Potatoes (preferably white) White fish fillets (cod, plaice, haddock, sole etc.) – I used defrosted frozen cod which is cheaper Flour Egg Panko breadcrumbs Salt Pepper Oil The panko breadcrumbed fish before it had cooked in the air fryer Method While your air fryer preheats at 180C for five minutes, rinse your potatoes, cut into chip shapes, pat each one dry, then mix in a bowl with oil, salt pepper and preferred seasonings Place chips in the air fryer and set for 20 minutes at 180C While chips cook, prepare a bowl of each flour, mixed egg and seasoned panko breadcrumbs and pat dry fish Check chips and decide whether they need longer based on colour, they should be golden brown Dip each fish fillet into flour, then egg, then panko breadcrumbs When the chips are done, place the fish in the air fryer for 10 minutes, flipping at five Take out the fish, and pop the chips back in for one minute to reheat Plate up with a lemon wedge The chips came out delicious and crispy The outcome I was a little apprehensive about how the fish and chips would turn out for two reasons. One, I wasn’t sure if the chips would crispen up as I’d usually boil the potatoes before putting them in the air fryer. Secondly, I wasn’t sure if the panko breadcrumb coating would stick, I thought the rapid air circulation would blow it off before it had time to set and crispen up. I needn’t have worried. The final result was so much better than I expected The whole dish was absolutely delicious, thanks to the seasoning. The panko breadcrumbs surprisingly stuck well, though I’m not sure regular breadcrumbs would have worked so effectively. The chips were crispy and thoroughly cooked, and the fish (I used cod) was flaky without being overdone. I have to say, I was quite impressed with myself. The air fryer I always use my Ninja Air Fryer AF100UK which I absolutely love. It’s high quality, has four settings and is easy to use. However if you’re using air fryers for whole meals consistently, you might consider investing in the Ninja Foodi Dual Zone Air Fryer , which has two drawers to let you cook two foods at the same time, at different temperatures and for different times. Snapchat CEO Still Figuring Out Meta’s Metaverse Vision – – The Coin Republic https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/snapchat-ceo-still-figuring-out-metas-metaverse-vision-the-coin-republic/ Home » Snapchat CEO Still Figuring Out Meta’s Metaverse Vision Snapchat CEO, Evan Spiegel, is still figuring out Zuck Bucks vision. Mark Zuckerberg changed the title of Facebook to Meta in 2021. Meta CEO’s metaverse selfie became a joke on Snapchat recently. Evan Spiegel Skeptical of Zuck Buck’s Vision Since Mark Zuckerberg has changed the title of his organization, Meta (formerly Facebook) is constantly working towards the development of metaverse. It is believed to become one of the leading entities in virtual worlds. Though many are eagerly waiting for digital worlds to come mainstream, people like Eval Spiegel, Snapchat CEO, is not impressed by Zuck Bucks’ vision. He says that “He is still trying to figure out what this means?” Both the organizations are going head to head in the race to dominate the social media space, but competing with an organization like Meta will require Snapchat to pull up their socks. Recently, Snap cut down its workforce by 20% from the previous month, and the company stocks are down by 75% this year. Spiegel says that they are really working hard to get back on track. Given its 350 Million daily active users it appears like the organization has a window to recover the losses. They are targeting 6 Billion USD in revenue for 2023. Evan says that the road to recovery will be a challenging task, especially when they are against giants like Meta. But he is not willing to sell the organization to a bigger animal in the game. Meta is a tough competitor to organizations like Apple, Twitter and more. The fact that they are working on their metaverse makes the situation more challenging for the behemoths in the game. Currently, Horizon Worlds — metaverse game by the company — has not witnessed success similar to what they are experiencing in the social media space. Metaverse development requires a lot of effort by the developers. Sure companies like Meta, Apple, Nvidia and more are working hard to achieve the goal to develop the virtual worlds, however, if these organizations join forces to work on a single objective, it may prove much more fruitful. The notion of digital worlds still has to travel a long path to become mainstream. But people and organizations across the globe are already marking their presence in metaverse games like The Sandbox, Fortnite, Decentraland and more. Developer Activity On Bitcoin And Ethereum Plummeted In 2022 – Cryptonews https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/developer-activity-on-bitcoin-and-ethereum-plummeted-in-2022-cryptonews/ Source: AdobeStock / Seventyfour Blockchain developers have slowed down their contributions to top crypto projects amid the lingering market downturn, with Bitcoin and Ethereum experiencing a decline of over 30% in developer activity over the past three months.  According to dev activity tracker platform GokuStats, developers made a total of 12,200 commits, which is the smallest unit of work for developers, to the Ethereum network during the last week of August, nearly flat in one month and down by over 30% in three months.  Furthermore, as the leading and strongest crypto community, Ethereum had 1,850 weekly developers for the week ending August 27. This figure is down by 11% in one month and down by more than 30% over the past three months.  Likewise, the leading cryptocurrency has seen a decline in the number of developer contributions. During the last week of August, devs made 1,600 commits to the Bitcoin blockchain and its sub-ecosystem, which is down by more than 35% in one month and 38% in three months.  Furthermore, Bitcoin had a total of 293 active weekly developers for the week ending August 27. This tally represents a decline of around 13% in Bitcoin’s active weekly developers over one month and a drop of around 33% over three months.  Aside from Bitcoin and Ethereum, other blockchains and crypto projects have also seen a plunge in developer activity. Polkadot, Solana, and Cosmos have been hit the most, losing around 50% of their weekly developers over the past three months. Crypto Winter Continues to Rage On The decline in developer activity comes amid the lingering crypto winter, characterized by depressed cryptocurrency asset prices. The current crypto winter arguably started in early May, when the collapse of Terra‘s algorithmic stablecoin UST exacerbated the market crash.  Terra’s implosion sent ripple effects across the entire crypto industry, leading to the failure of some prominent crypto firms like Celsius and Three Arrows Capital, which wiped off around USD 2trn from the overall crypto market capitalization. Nevertheless, major cryptocurrencies have since failed to recover. For instance, Bitcoin has been trading around the USD 20,000 mark for the last three months. The leading cryptocurrency is currently trading at over USD 21,500, up by more than 6% over the past 24 hours. Ethereum, on the other hand, has performed much better, largely thanks to the hype and chatter around the upcoming Merge. The second-largest cryptocurrency is currently trading around USD 1,700, up by around 3% over the past day.

Fogo Is Much More Than Its Iconic Inn The Daily Beast
Fogo Is Much More Than Its Iconic Inn The Daily Beast
Fogo Is Much More Than Its Iconic Inn – The Daily Beast https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/fogo-is-much-more-than-its-iconic-inn-the-daily-beast/ Virtually every story about Fogo Island wraps around a moody photo of the inn that Newfoundland-born, Norway-based architect Todd Saunders designed, one of its minimalist white ends perched on two-story steel stilts, all of it standing defiantly on the rocky North Atlantic Ocean coastline. It’s an image that compels people from around the world to travel to this remote island off the northeast coast of Newfoundland and Labrador and drop $2,000 USD and up a night to stay at the inn (which has a three-night minimum). But it’s also an image that inadvertently causes people to conclude that Fogo is the Fogo Island Inn and nothing more, or that they can’t afford to visit. Jennifer Bain Twenty-three hundred Fogo Islanders beg to differ. I offer the view from the front deck of my vacation home. I can see the inn but also the fact it’s actually perched above all the colorful houses of Joe Batt’s Arm, which is one of 11 communities on the island. I know the island is big enough that it takes half an hour to drive from the Stag Harbour ferry to Riff’s discount store in the town of Fogo. I know it takes another 25 minutes to drive from Brimstone Head, one of the four corners of the flat earth (more on that in a minute) to Tilting, a Catholic village that boasts it’s more Irish than Ireland. I’ve been coming to this jagged, uneven, art-infused island for six years and still haven’t hiked all the trails, visited all the museums, seen enough puffins or icebergs, eaten enough cod, or met all the artists and makers. The pace is slow on Fogo and everyone’s favorite past-time is talking. Retired fisherman Ed Foley and his brothers took me winter cabin hopping by snowmobile the first time I visited as a stressed-out newspaper editor staying at the inn for a travel story. He said something that stuck as I was forced to unwind: “If you’re not all right here, there’s something wrong with ya.” Three months later, while dragging my family back to the inn for Mother’s Day, we impulsively bought a house and became CFAs (Come From Aways). Fogo is part of the ancestral homelands of the Beothuk, the Indigenous people of Newfoundland. The name dates back to the 1520s as Isla (or Ysla) de Fuego (Isle of Fire), a version of a place name the Portuguese and Spanish used in other parts of the world. “It may have referred to fog, shrouding Brimstone Head,” writes folklorist Dale Jarvis in Places Names of Newfoundland and Labrador, noting the island first appeared on maps around 1602, though sometimes as the less evocative Isle of Foggs. About Brimstone Head — after the short, steep hike to the top of the craggy outcrop there’s a sign nailed to the viewing platform proclaiming you are at one of the four corners of the flat earth. The sign currently shows a triangle connecting Fogo, Papua New Guinea and Hydra, Greece, but it’s less perplexing than the time it was anonymously altered with white tape to show nine corners. The now-defunct Flat Earth Society of Canada reportedly visited Fogo in the 1970s and declared it one of the edges of the world. Kay Burns curated the Museum of the Flat Earth here for a spell, but as a visual and performance artist who values critical thinking, open-mindedness, interrogation and investigation, she invented the exhibits and stories in her museum/coffeeshop. Still, the edge-of-the-world mythology has stuck. Both the inn and Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism position Fogo as “one of the four corners of the earth,” and the priciest of the inn’s 29 rooms is called the Flat Earth Suite. For a purely factual history lesson, I take people to the Fogo Island Marine Interpretation Centre in Seldom, better known as “F.U. Trading” because the main building still bears the old Fishermen’s Union Trading Co. sign. The tour guides, always enthusiastic summer students, start the story in the late 1950s when Joey Smallwood was the young province’s first premier and the lucrative inshore cod fishery was declining. Smallwood famously gave Fogo Islanders three choices — “resettle, drift and perish, or develop.” They picked the third option. In something that became known as the Fogo Process, National Film Board filmmaker Colin Low famously then made 67 short films about the lives of Fogo Islanders that helped convince the government that these settlers would collaborate on a sustainable community, launching a co-operative society and building a shipyard to make longliners and fish offshore. What’s now the Fogo Island Co-operative Society has three plants to process snow crab, cold water shrimp, sea cucumber, Atlantic cod, Greenland halibut, lumpfish, capelin, herring, mackerel and lobster. Which brings us to the term “fish.” When Newfoundlanders say “fish” they mean cod. Commercial fisherman Randy Snow took my family jigging for cod once, then gutted and cleaned the 15 we caught — but usually I rely on restaurants. Cod bites and fish cakes at the Cod Jigger are a simple, honest feed. I lived at the Bangbelly Cafe this summer ordering barbecue miso cod, cod and corn chowder and the cod sandwich, sometimes with tartar sauce and shredded lettuce, other times with Sriracha mayo and coleslaw. Speaking of Fogo food, we’ve never gone berry picking like locals but have eaten bakeapple cheesecake from Beaches Bar & Grill, the topping made from a prized yellow berry also known as cloudberry. Don McKenna, the local jack of all trades who cares for my house, hooked us up with lobster this summer and in return let me serve him his first artisan ice cream cone from Growlers Ice Cream Shop. The Fogo Island Inn quietly runs the seasonal shop in Joe Batt’s Arm, and the signature flavor partridgeberry jam tart combines a tart local berry (popularized by IKEA as lingonberry) and crushed Purity Jam Jam cookies. Jennifer Bain I sometimes splurge on a meal at the inn, which is woven into the fabric of modern life here whether you stay there or not. Visitors don’t always realize that the inn, unveiled in 2013 by Fogo-born Zita Cobb who made a fortune in fiber optics, is a non-tipping community enterprise run by the non-profit Shorefast Foundation she launched with her brothers. Undeniably high room rates quietly include meals and a half-day outing with a community host, like cabin-hopping with the Foley brothers. I always point people to Fogo’s small inns, bed-and-breakfasts or Airbnbs — and even its campground. But it’s understood that if you say “the inn” on Fogo, you mean the Fogo Island Inn. And since people are so drawn to it, I always share how they can experience the inn on a free tour or at dinner if there’s a table to spare, though both options have become nearly impossible during the pandemic. Four-course dinner menus change with what the inn cleverly markets as the seven seasons of Fogo — winter, pack ice, spring, trap berth, summer, ferry, and late fall. Executive chef Tim Charles served me exquisite plates this summer working with cod tongue, lamb, lobster, green garlic, lamb’s quarters and white strawberries. Easier to describe was my Isle of Fire cocktail, which mixed Newfoundland rye whisky with molasses stout syrup and molasses and Angostura bitters, and came served with a fleeting display of birch smoke for a foggy effect. Probably the signature taste of Fogo for me, though, is mustard pickles served alongside humble fish cakes made from salt cod and potatoes. I’m partial to the version Mona Brown sells at Mona’s Quilt & Jam Shop, which doubles as the Hart House Museum. Brown rents out Margaret’s Place, the saltbox house next door. The Old Salt Box Co. also restores saltbox homes and rents out three of them on Fogo. Named for a shape that resembled the boxes once used to ship salt to Newfoundland, saltbox houses are simple buildings traditionally made of wood with dramatic sloping roofs. Jennifer Bain Newfoundland is nicknamed “the Rock” for a reason and many houses, including mine, don’t have basements. Those magnificent stilts that hold the inn up? They’re a nod to traditional outport fishing stages where people still process, salt and dry their fish. You’ll see fishing stages all over the island and can fill your Fogo days simply admiring traditional and contemporary architecture. In Tilting, the Dwyer Premises (one of about a dozen seasonal museums) showcases a house, store, stage and flakes (platforms to dry cod) associated with the family-based, inshore fishery. Last time I swung by, there was salt cod drying by the sea. Al Dwyer, by the way, leads rapid-paced walking tours of Tilting and Oliver’s Cove, while his brother Roy is a prolific writer and storyteller. Jennifer Bain Those four photogenic, off-grid studios that often show up in stories about Fogo? Squish in Tilting, Long in Joe Batt’s Arm, Tower in Shoal Bay and Bridge in Deep Bay were also designed by Saunders and are used for residencies with Fogo Island Arts, another Shorefast initiative. I used to tell people my bright orange house — while not a saltbox it is at least clad in Newfoundland black spruce clapboard — was down the road from the inn. Now I just say I’m next to Young Studios where artist Adam Young lives, paints, and sells his folk-art style work. A tempestuous painting of the North Atlantic by New Jersey-born islander M’Liz Keefe hangs proudly in our living room facing the sea, and this summer we went to the launch of her gallery J.K. Contemporary. I still don’t know whether my house is on Main Street or Main Road (it depends who you ask) but I do yearn to live on Herring Cove Road in Shoal Bay. That’s where Winston and Linda Osmond run Herring Cove Art Gallery & Studio. He paints, creates crafts and chats up visitors while tending to a garden and barnyard nearby. She makes exquisite quilts and bottles jams, pickles, and preserves. A few doors away, metal artist Marc Fiset oversee...

New Belpre Market Square Businesses Starting To Open – Marietta Times https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/new-belpre-market-square-businesses-starting-to-open-marietta-times/ Work is continuing on the new Belpre Market Square with some businesses starting to open and others having work being done to prepare to open in the near future. (Photo by Brett Dunlap) BELPRE — The new Belpre Market Square is coming together with businesses starting to open and others beginning to take shape. With the opening of Family Tree Dental and the recent opening of the Las Trancas Restaurant, local officials feel the new plaza is starting to show the community its potential. For over a year, construction crews have been working on renovating the former Washington Square Shopping Center building on Washington Boulevard into a new business hub inside the city of Belpre. “It is an impressive upgrade,” said Karen Waller, Belpre Chamber of Commerce President. “There is a lot of excitement in the city for this center. “It is a great combination of food and specialty shops.” Memorial Health System is locating in two spots in the plaza. The former Peddler’s Junction will be turned into a materials warehouse and another space will be used as the Belpre Outpatient Therapy office. (Photo by Brett Dunlap) Waller said the plaza is geographically right in the center of town. A sign was recently put up in the front of the plaza announcing Memorial Health System will have a presence at the center. Jennifer Offenberger, Associate Vice President, Service Excellence for the Memorial Health System, said they will be setting up a materials warehouse at the center with Waller saying it is going in the former Peddler’s Junction space. “Our materials warehouse serves as the location from which we provide materials, supplies and other inventory to our health system,” Offenberger said. “As we continue to grow as a regional health system, we must expand the space for our inventory to meet demand. “We also wanted a space that was more centralized to all of our locations – Athens, Belpre, Marietta, Sistersville, Parkersburg. An opportunity presented itself with the plaza, and we’re excited to be moving operations there by the end of the year,” she said. Work is continuing on the new Roseland Coffee Bar at the new Belpre Market Square with both exterior and interior work underway. The business is expected to possibly open in November. (Photo by Brett Dunlap) Memorial Health System is also setting up its Belpre Outpatient Therapy office in another part of the plaza and opened recently. “We found ourselves needing additional provider space on the Belpre Campus, but wanting to keep the convenience of the therapy services for patients in that region,” Offenberger said. “A space in the Plaza made a good fit and keeps us close to the Belpre Campus as well.” Work is also underway on the new Roseland Coffee Bar location being built on the end of the Holiday Hair/H&R Block building. The location will include a drive-thru window. In a joint statement, founders and co-owners father and son Craig Yost and Collin Yost said they were “super excited” about the opening of their second location in Belpre. They opened their first location in Barlow during the peak of the COVID pandemic. “Through the last two years we were lucky enough to be offered the opportunity to bring our business to Belpre,” the Yosts’ statement said. “We jumped at the chance to expand. Work is underway at the new Wings Etc. location at the new Belpre Market Square. The owners are hoping to open by the end of the year or early in 2023. (Photo Provided) “The new shopping plaza will be the center hub of Belpre and we couldn’t be more excited to be involved.” The Yosts said Roseland strives to be more than a coffee shop. “We aren’t just a coffee shop,” they said. “We are a business that is centered in the community, who works to grow and improve the neighborhood. “We just happen to also serve coffee.” The Belpre location is currently finishing drywall and polishing the floors, the statement said. Next, work will be finishing up the outside. Then it will be on to painting, decorating, installations of equipment, and training employees. The new Las Trancas Mexican Restaurant recently opened with local officials saying it has been doing good business with regular crowds. (Photo by Brett Dunlap) “We hope to be open by fall, maybe late November if there are no delays,” the Yosts said. The Belpre location will have the full menu like the Barlow location, including all options of hot, iced, blended coffee drinks, teas, lemonades, and signature energy drinks. “We have so many options for flavors: fruity flavors and coffee flavors,” the Yosts said. “We also will have a variety of scones and grab and go treats. “We look forward to seeing everyone soon and getting involved with the Belpre community and giving back.” Wings Etc. will occupy a space at the front of the plaza down from Family Tree Dental. Owners Kyle and Kristen Huck and Chad and Missy Huck opened their first location in Marietta over seven years ago. They have a second location in Caldwell and Belpre will be their third location locally. They recently posted pictures on their Facebook page showing the interior of the Belpre location and the work being done. Progress has been going fairly well, said Kyle Huck. They have had to deal with supply chain issues like many other businesses involved in doing construction work right now. Huck said they are looking at the end of this year or early next year when they might open. It depends on how construction proceeds and when materials can arrive. “We want to be finished sooner than later,” he said. The location will offer their full Wings Etc. menu which include chicken wings with a variety of sauces, sandwiches, wraps, salads, a variety of appetizers and more. They will have 20 beers on tap and routinely rotate some seasonal and draft beers. They also carry 40 different beers in bottles. The location will also feature televisions inside and more. “It will be the great menu, the great food, the whole Wings atmosphere,” Huck said. They are also looking to do a patio at this location as well for outside dining. The developers of the project came to the owners and worked with them to set up a location there. “They worked hard to get us a space that was good and accommodating,” Huck said. “Belpre was a good location for us.” Huck found the early success of Las Trancas to be encouraging and is looking forward to getting their location open. “I think Belpre is a good location and more restaurants are needed there,” he said. “We think Wings Etc. will fill a need in the community and give people another good place to go eat.” A UPS Store is also being planned for the former Inspire III space. Bob Rauch, a local Belpre businessman, is working on putting the UPS Store in the plaza. He is currently working on getting the lease together and hopes to have it completed within the next week or so. Once that is done, they will begin the work to turn the space into the store. “It is a nice size and gives us plenty of room for a UPS store,” Rauch said of the 2,200-square-foot unit. Rauch said the location is needed with the business expansion in the area and with Memorial Health System’s Belpre Campus in Belpre. He has found if he needed to ship something he had to drive out of the area to do it. He found others had the same issue. “It was something that was needed,” Rauch said. “It is something that just seemed to be a good fit.” UPS Stores do more than ship packages. They have copy and fax services, mailboxes, computer services, notaries on staff and more. The location is expected to be open seven days a week. Rauch is hoping they can be ready to open by the Christmas season this year. “We are working to get all of the required steps UPS requires to get open,” he said. He is also planning to hire locally. The manager is local and has ties to Belpre. “It is important we deal locally with local people that support the local community,” Rauch said. “We like to have familiar faces and it just works better that way.” Las Trancas has seen good business and many are looking forward to what the plaza will bring, Waller said. “A lot of people are enjoying an evening out there,” she said of Las Trancas. Waller said the developers were always respectful of the local community and have been good partners to work with. Rauch credits the developer with working with him to get the UPS Store in the plaza. The developers have previously talked about continuing the facade upgrades. Waller credited them with being able to keep many of the other established businesses there, like including the Dragon House Chinese Restaurant, the Unicorn Wine Guild, Holiday Hair, H&R Block, and Belpre Aquarium. “We are glad they kept them there,” Waller said. “That is a win for everyone.” With the businesses coming in and the ones established the plaza will be regularly busy with people coming and going. “It will be buzzing all day long,” Waller said. Lakeview Showcases Identity In 21-13 Win Over Niles | News, Sports, Jobs – Warren Tribune Chronicle https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/lakeview-showcases-identity-in-21-13-win-over-niles-news-sports-jobs-warren-tribune-chronicle/ NILES – Following several years of struggles, the Lakeview Bulldogs have been eager to put together a statement game signaling the rebirth of their program. That statement may have been made Friday night at Niles’ Bo Rein Stadium by way of a pair of touchdown drives which exemplified the Bulldogs’ team-first mentality. Those two drives, along with a stout defense, led the Bulldogs to a 21-13 win over Niles in what was a Northeast-8 Conference lidlifter for both clubs. Lakeview lifts its record to 3-1. Niles falls to 2-2. With the win, Lakeview equaled its combined win total of the past three years. The victory also gave the Bulldogs their first conference win since 2019. “It’s been awhile since we won a league game and that was a huge emphasis this week,” said Lakeview coach Sam Bellino. “I’m not really surprised at our 3-1 start. All offseason, the kids bought in to every little thing that we preached. “The big thing for me is that they don’t care who does what, to a man they don’t care about stats. It’s a true brotherhood. They play for the guy lined up next to them. It’s all about teamwork. You’re never going to see one guy stand out in the stat sheet. That’s what’s beautiful about our program right now.” Lakeview’s final stats back up Bellino’s comments. The Bulldogs’ leading rusher was senior quarterback Damien Natali, who gained 68 yards (two touchdowns) on 19 carries. Nolan Toth and Hayden Bartram each carried the ball 16 times, rushing for 66 and 61 yards, respectively. Toth also pulled in a 38-yard touchdown pass from Natali. Lakeview opened the game with a 14-play, 69-yard touchdown drive which was capped by a Natali four-yard run. The drive took 7:56 off the clock. Lakeview took the 7-0 lead into halftime, limiting Niles to just 11 offensive plays and 14 yards in the first half. The Bulldogs quickly upped their lead to 14-0 in the early stages of the third quarter. Natali connected with Toth, who caught a pass in stride at the Niles 20 and raced untouched for a 38-yard score. Niles immediately answered when Nathan Coots took the ensuing kickoff 88 yards to the Lakeview four. The Dragons needed just one play – a Joe Smith (11 carries, 33 yards) run – to cut their deficit to 14-6. However, Lakeview then put together a 16-play, 70 yard drive capped by a Natali 10 yard touchdown run which ate up 9:06 of the clock. “Those two drives, that’s who we are,” Bellino said. “We wanted to create an identity and our identity is run downhill and at guys. Last week we put together an 11-minute drive to start our game against Liberty.” “We have our hogs up front and we’ve been telling them since last winter that we’re going to trust in them to carry this offense.” Trailing by 15, Niles made things interesting by scoring with 3:24 left in the game on a Smith two-yard run. The Red Dragons had one final possession and marched down to the Lakeview 39 before a Luke Canzonetta interception sealed the win. Anthony Budak completed nine of 22 passes for 102 yards to lead the Niles offense. “It’s been a rough four years, and I really feel like we’ve now turned the corner and we’ve made a change,” Natali said. “Man, my voice is gone, my excitement level is sky high. I just can’t express how great this feels. “The great thing is, we haven’t played near our best football just yet. We have a long way to go and really the sky’s the limit for this program.” Lakeview returns home Friday to host Girard. Niles will play host to Jefferson. Today’s breaking news and more in your inbox

The Best All-In-One Printers Can Print, Copy, Scan And More – Forbes https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/the-best-all-in-one-printers-can-print-copy-scan-and-more-forbes/ Whether you have a home office or everyone in the family just needs to occasionally print things, an all-in-one printer can be a versatile tool. The best all-in-one printers are designed to do so much more than print: They can copy, scan and even fax—all while taking up far less space than using three or four separate devices. Epson In a home, home office or small office setting, all-in-one printers (AIO) provide the greatest flexibility and convenience. All the major printer brands have all-in-one printer options, including Canon, Epson, HP and Brother. Plus, most all-in-one printers now rely on large, economical ink tanks instead of costly ink cartridges. Ink tanks can typically hold the same amount of ink as 20 to 30 individual ink cartridges. All-in-one printers come in a vast range of sizes and prices, as well as print technologies (like inkjet and laser). What these devices can do, along with their print quality, print speed and how much each costs to maintain varies. For example, color all-in-one laser printers can quickly print color pages, but these tend to be rather costly to both purchase and maintain. We’ve done the research and testing to compile this list of the best all-in-one printers available right now: Best All-In-One Printer Overall: Canon Maxify GX7021 Best All-In-One Printer For Home Use: Epson EcoTank ET-3830 Best All-In-One Printer For Families: Canon Pixma MegaTank G3260 Best Budget All-In-One Printer: Brother INKvestment Tank MFC-J4335DW Best Compact All-In-One Printer: Epson WorkForce WF-4820 Best Portable All-In-One Printer: HP OfficeJet 250 Best All-In-One Photo Printer: Epson Expression Premium XP-7100 Best All-In-One Monochrome Laser Printer: HP LaserJet Tank MFP 2604sdw Best All-In-One Wide Format Printer: HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Best All-In-One Printer Overall Ready For All Of Your High-Capacity Printing Needs Editor’s Pick Best Buy Canon Maxify MegaTank GX7021 Printer type: Inkjet | Features: Print/Copy/Scan/Fax | Print speed: 24 ppm (black) / 15.5 ppm (color) | Duty cycle: Up to 45,000 pages per month | Print resolution: 1,200 x 600 dpi | Scan resolution: 1,200 x 1,200 dpi | Total paper tray capacity: 600-sheets | Two-sided printing: Automatic | Copy speed: Up to 15.5 ppm Best for: Home offices and families with extensive printing needs. The Canon Maxify MegaTank GX70201 is an ideal all-in-one printer for a high-volume home office or a family with a lot of diverse printing needs. Its refillable ink tanks can print up to 6,000 B&W pages or 14,000 color pages before the tanks need to be refilled—making it more cost-effective than cartridge-based inkjet printers. This printer is set for printing with its 600-sheet plain paper capacity, distributed among three paper trays (two with a 250-sheet capacity in the front and one with a 100-sheet capacity in the back). The built-in touchscreen provides a simple interface to switch among the print, copy, scan and fax. While optimized for busy home offices, this model can also easily handle all of the printing needs of your entire family. It even does an amazing job creating lab-quality photo prints from digital images when you use premium photo paper. From our review: As an all-in-one inkjet printer for a home office, you’ll be hard pressed to find another printer that offers the features, ease-of-use and environmentally-friendly functionality as the Canon Maxify GX7021. Those who need the microscopic difference a laser printer can make will probably want to pay more for that privilege, but most people really don’t need to. This Canon model gets close enough for a wide range of needs. Check out Forbes Vetted’s full review. Pros: Strong performance Three paper trays Cons: Bulky size Heavy weight Honorable Mention: This HP Printer Handles A Range Of Needs Printer type: Inkjet | Features: Print/Copy/Scan/Fax | Print speed: 15 ppm (black) / 9 ppm (color) | Duty cycle: Up to 6,000 pages per month | Print resolution: Up to 4,800 x 1,200 dpi | Scan resolution: 1,200 x 1,200 dpi | Total paper tray capacity: 250-sheets | Two-sided printing: Automatic | Copy speed: Up to 15 ppm Best for: A family or home office with diverse printing needs. While not designed for extreme high yield printing, the HP Smart Tank 7602 uses ink tanks that’ll generate between 6,000 and 8,000 pages before needing a refill, so the cost per page is very low and maintenance is super easy. This printer can also generate high-quality prints from digital images in a wide range of sizes, thanks to the 4,800 x 12,000 dpi print resolution. Unless you’re printing large qualities of long documents, you won’t need to refill the 250-sheet paper tray too often. You get wireless printing using a variety of protocols, including AirPrint, so you won’t need a cable to print from your computer or mobile devices. Pros: High print resolution Decent print speed Uses ink tanks (not ink cartridges) resulting in low per-page cost Cons: Just one paper tray 3-inch touchscreen display is not full-color Best All-In-One Printer For Home Print, Copy And Scan Printer type: Inkjet | Features: Print/Copy/Scan | Print speed: 15 ppm (black) / 8 ppm (color) | Duty cycle: Up to 5,000 pages per month (Epson’s recommended monthly page volume is up to 800 pages, however) | Print resolution: 4,800 x 1,200 dpi | Scan resolution: 1,200 x 2,400 dpi | Total paper tray capacity: 250-sheets | Two-sided printing: Automatic | Copy speed: Up to 15 ppm Best for: Families looking for a zippy, general-purpose printer with wireless printing and low cost per page. The EcoTank ET-3830 strikes a strong balance between features and value. The ink tanks hold enough ink to generate 7,500 black and white pages or 6,000 full-color pages before needing a refill—and it comes with a full ink set. It prints on letter- and legal-size paper and can print borderless images on premium photo paper. The front paper tray holds 250 sheets. This printer uses a 2.4-inch color display along with buttons on the front panel to navigate among functions. Print speed is a respectable 15 ppm in black and white and eight ppm in color. Printing 8.5 x 11 inch photos or two-sided documents takes a bit longer. Epson supports wireless printing via several protocols, including Apple’s Airprint and Mopria. In the mid-price range, this Epson printer will meet most expectations and needs for a home office. Pros: Uses long-lasting, economical refillable ink tanks Wireless printing using AirPrint, Mopria and more Cons: Print speed for color could be better Honorable Mention: An Ink Tank-Based Printer From HP Printer type: Inkjet | Features: Print/Copy/Scan | Print speed: 12 ppm (black) / 7 ppm (color) | Duty cycle: Up to 3,000 pages per month | Print resolution: 4,800 x 1,200 dpi | Scan resolution: 1,200 x 1,200 dpi | Total paper tray capacity: 150-sheets | Two-sided printing: Automatic | Copy speed: Up to 12 ppm Best for: A household that needs a color inkjet printer that’s affordable and versatile. This HP Smart Tank 6001 printer utilizes ink tanks, so it’s very inexpensive to maintain over time. The ink tanks produce 6,000 to 8,000 pages before needing a refill, and it includes up to two years of ink with the printer. It’s high print resolution means content can look great when printed, with sharp, easy-to-read text. The print speed is on the slow side, but this all-in-one printer has a solid collection of other features—like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth printing and automatic two-sided printing—that make it a great value. It can create borderless prints from digital images in a range of sizes. Unlike other all-in-one printers, this model has a 2-inch wide, two line LCD display with context aware “smart” buttons for navigating among features. The Smart Tank 6001 lacks an automatic document feeder, though, so look elsewhere if you need to scan stacks of pages. Pros: Automatic two-sided printing Creates borderless prints Cons: Sluggish print speed for the price Small paper tray Best All-In-One Printer For Families High-Capacity Ink Tanks And Photo Printing At A Reasonable Price Best Buy Canon Pixma MegaTank G3260 Printer type: Inkjet | Features: Print/Copy/Scan | Print speed: 10 ppm (black) / 6 ppm (color) | Duty cycle: Up to 3,000 pages | Print resolution: 4,800 x 1,200 dpi | Scan resolution: 600 x 1,200 dpi | Total paper tray capacity: 100-sheets | Copy speed: Up to 10 ppm Best for: Families that need a general-purpose printer that also creates photo prints from digital images. It prints, photocopies and scans, offers wireless printing (with Apple AirPrint compatibility) and accommodates a variety of popular paper sizes—from 3.5 x 3.5 inches to 8.5 x 11 inches. Plus, when you use photo paper, it prints beautiful borderless images in the sizes of your choice. Its paper tray holds up to 100 sheets. Each time you refill the tanks with compatible ink, that ink will last the average user about two years (up to 6,000 black pages or 7,700 color pages). Canadian Crypto Exchange Sues Users For Return Of Bitcoin Misappropriated During Software Glitch – Exchanges Bitcoin News – Bitcoin News https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/canadian-crypto-exchange-sues-users-for-return-of-bitcoin-misappropriated-during-software-glitch-exchanges-bitcoin-news-bitcoin-news/ Canadian crypto exchange Coinberry, part of Kevin O’Leary’s Wonderfi, has sued 50 customers for the return of the bitcoin they obtained without paying during a software glitch. “Coinberry contacted all of the said 546 affected registered users by email and demanded the return of the misappropriated bitcoins,” the lawsuit details. Coinberry Sues Users to Get Bitcoin Back Canadian cryptocurrency exchange Coinberry has reportedly sued its customers who took advantage of its software glitch and obtained bitcoin without paying. Coinberry, a regulated crypto trading platform, is owned by Vancouver-based Wonderfi Technologies Inc., a company backed by Shark Tank star Kevin O’Leary. The lawsuit, filed in Ontario in June, explains that during a software upgrade in 2020, Coinberry accidentally let users buy BTC with Canadian dollars that had not properly transferred to their accounts. The exchange detailed that during the software glitch, customers could initiate an Interac e-transfer, get the amount credited to their Coinberry accounts, buy BTC, transfer the coins out, and cancel the original e-transfer. By doing so, they retained their funds while getting bitcoin for free. According to Coinberry, 546 users were able to acquire a total of about 120 bitcoins altogether without paying for them before the software issue was fixed. The lawsuit states: Coinberry contacted all of the said 546 affected registered users by email and demanded return of the misappropriated bitcoins. “Coinberry was able to secure the return of approximately 37 of the misappropriated bitcoins from 270 of the affected registered users,” the lawsuit continues. Some customers transferred their ill-gotten bitcoin to Binance, the Canadian exchange further noted, adding: “Coinberry also immediately contacted Binance.” The lawsuit detailed: Binance acknowledged that it had identified a quantity of the misappropriated BTC and undertook to restrict any access to the accounts. The Canadian crypto trading platform said it has yet to recoup two-thirds of the lost BTC from hundreds of customers. The lawsuit seeks the return of 63 bitcoins from 50 customers, including 9.48 BTC that were transferred to Binance. Coinberry said its list of misappropriated bitcoins provided in the lawsuit does not include people who have taken and not yet returned amounts under $5,000, as valued in May 2020. The company further noted that the largest amount misappropriated and not returned was $385,722.31 by two accounts under the names Jordan Steifuk and Connor Heffernan, which the Canadian crypto exchange said are actually the same person. REUTERS/Chris Helgren/File Photo Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com LOS ANGELES, Sept 9 (Reuters) – Major U.S. freight railroads said on Friday they were preparing for a possible strike and service disruption a week before a deadline in protracted labor talks. BNSF, owned by Berkshire Hathaway (BRKa.N), and CSX (CSX.O) said they were taking necessary steps to secure the shipments of hazardous and security-sensitive materials in the event of a strike. “While these preparations are necessary, it does not mean that a work stoppage is inevitable,” BNSF said in a statement to Reuters. The largest U.S. trucking industry group on Friday urged Congress to be prepared to prevent railroad shutdowns if the negotiations fail to produce contracts by the deadline. “Congress should take swift action … to avoid a debilitating and unnecessary labor disruption that could cost the country billions each day,” Chris Spear, chief executive of the American Trucking Associations (ATA), wrote in a letter to congressional leadership. In the early 1990s, Congress required the two sides to engage in final and binding arbitration to prevent disruptions to shipping activities. Unions and freight railroads have so far reached tentative agreements covering 21,000 workers represented by five of the 12 unions involved in the negotiations. UPHS And Union Ratify Tech Contract | News, Sports, Jobs – Marquette Mining Journal https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/uphs-and-union-ratify-tech-contract-news-sports-jobs-marquette-mining-journal/ MARQUETTE — The Michigan Nurses Association and UP Health System-Marquette announced the ratification of the first union contract for the hospital’s tech employees in a joint press release Friday. The contract between the MNA and UPHS took effect immediately Friday, and the agreement, which covers roughly 180 health care professionals, will remain in place for three years. “We worked hard to make sure the contract provides a solid framework to recruit and retain the qualified health care professionals that our hospital needs,” said Katlyn Lafrinere, a lead cardiovascular technologist and president of the Marquette Ancillary Staff and Technologists. “We also now have a structure in place to discuss issues regarding patient care and have meaningful collaboration with management to address those. Our top priority is making sure that our patients get the best care possible.” The contract includes a wage structure that is designed to attract and retain health care professionals while rewarding experience. The contract also establishes a labor-management committee that will meet monthly to discuss issues that impact both parties. “Our technical employees play an incredibly vital role in the delivery of health care at our hospital, so we could not be more pleased to have reached an agreement that meets the collective needs of our staff, the hospital and community,” said Gar Atchison, chief executive officer of UPHS-Marquette. “We take seriously our role as one of the area’s top employers and have worked collaboratively with the MNA throughout this bargaining process, as we did earlier this year with our registered nurses, to arrive swiftly at an agreement that underscores our continued commitment to creating an excellent workplace for our employees and delivering the highest quality care to our patients.” The Michigan Nurses Association is the largest union that represents nurses and health care providers in the state and represents the roughly 300 registered nurses employed by UPHS-Marquette. The nurses ratified their own three-year contract in June. “Nurses and ancillary staff work hand in hand to advocate for our patients every day, and our contracts protect that voice,” said Stephanie DePetro, RN, president of the MGH RN Staff Council and vice president of the Michigan Nurses Association Board of Directors. “As our colleagues move forward with the protections and empowerment of their first contract, we are here with them every step of the way to keep working together to make our hospital the best it can be for our community.” Today’s breaking news and more in your inbox

My 8 Favorite Experiences Small-Ship Cruising Off The Coast Of France TravelAwaits
My 8 Favorite Experiences Small-Ship Cruising Off The Coast Of France TravelAwaits
My 8 Favorite Experiences Small-Ship Cruising Off The Coast Of France – TravelAwaits https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/my-8-favorite-experiences-small-ship-cruising-off-the-coast-of-france-travelawaits/ The French Riviera in summertime delivers a dreamy, romantic string of uninterrupted days filled with blue skies and mid-80s temps. When the sun sets, the skies take on shades of pink and purple before yielding to starry nights and warm gentle breezes.  This idyllic setting is why travelers flock to the south of France, and we’re enthralled, too, as we sit on a teak deck below the billowing sails of Star Clipper, our four-masted sailing ship. Star Clipper is a three-ship boutique cruise line that sails all over the world on Star Clipper (170 passengers), Royal Clipper (227 passengers), and Star Flyer (also 170 passengers).  This is small-ship cruising at its finest. While Star Clipper carries up to 170 guests, we’re sailing with just 122 during our weeklong journey. This beautiful ship feels like a new home, our private yacht for the week as we create new friendships and countless memories.  It’s intimate. It’s romantic. It’s a carefree way to enjoy your vacation.  Star Clipper offers a program that fits travelers who enjoy options but aren’t too thrilled about following a strict schedule. This is your cruise to enjoy your day, your way.  Our fellow passengers came from a variety of places, with American and British passengers trailing in numbers behind the French and Germans. It’s a delightful mix that gives quite the international flavor.  Read on to learn what we loved about small-ship cruising off the coast of France.  The sailors of Star Clipper walk out on the bowsprit to wave during the full-sail demonstration. Photo credit: John Roberts 1. Blissing Out On Beach Days  Star Clipper stopped in a port every day on our round-trip voyage from Cannes, and at each destination, cruisers had the option of hitting the beach for some swimming, sun worshipping, snorkeling, or enjoying a range of water sports.  The ship visited Portofino, Italy. Then, L’Ile Rousse, Calvi, and Plage Saint Antoine, Corsica, as well as Cavalaire sur Mer and Saint Tropez. We wandered the marina and followed the coastline to find beautiful beach spots at L’Ile Rousse and Calvi.  After time swimming and snorkeling in the blazing hot conditions, we found relief at a beachside tavern on L’Ile Rousse with cold beer. The days at Plage Saint Antoine and Cavalaire Sur Mer were also designed around getting ashore for time at a beach — or your own leisure near the marina at Cavalaire Sur Mer.  The Star Clipper activities staff bring ashore the toys from the ship, such as kayaks, sailboats and paddle boards, soccer balls, volleyballs, and a football. So there are all kinds of ways to be active at these beach outings. Or, as many did, you can simply enjoy the views, take refreshing little dips in the surf, and nap under an umbrella.  Pro Tip: To get ashore, you’ll take tender boats from the ship, which requires some agility. Pack lightly when going ashore, wear solid footwear, and keep your hands free so you can grab onto the tender boat and helping hands from crew members. The pretty marina at Portofino offers shopping and eateries. Photo credit: John Roberts 2. Exploring Enchanting Port Towns  In Portofino, we were charmed by the bustling horseshoe-shaped marina. Little restaurants and pizza eateries lined the area, which has centuries-old stone walkways. Passengers are tendered ashore to all but one of the port stops during this cruise, and at Portofino, we had not taken more than 20 steps from our drop-off point before we spotted rock and roll legend Rod Stewart and his wife making their way through the crowd (almost unnoticed by all except my sharp-eyed wife) to a megayacht. Turns out, Sir Rod and his wife, Penny Lancaster, wed on the island years ago and often return for summer visits.  A few of our new friends from the ship set out for a hike to the lighthouse at Portofino, while we decided we would get a pizza and beer for lunch. When in Italy, I have to get a Margherita pie, of course. A little lunch, people watching, a stroll for some window shopping, a nice gelato, and a celebrity sighting. Not a bad day in Portofino.  We had no bad days, in fact, at any of these stops, with each charming historic town offering a few fun things to do. After a day full of sun-splashed adventures on Calvi, we found relief with cold craft beers. Photo credit: John Roberts 3. Enjoying On-Shore Experiences With Fellow Passengers At Calvi, we hiked to the Citadel before heading to town, where we bumped into a couple from our ship, Brooke and Tyler Sellhorn from Fort Wayne, Indiana, who gave us a heads up about a pub serving craft beers.  Colleen and I ducked into the busy cobblestone alleyway, passed the long line of people getting gelato, and found tables outside Loch Ness Pub, where the friendly bartender appreciated my fumbled attempts at ordering in French and suggested a couple of fine brews to quench our thirst.  We made our visit to Cavalaire-sur-Mer into a fun lunch date with new friends. Our group found a nice spot among the various dining options at the pretty marina. Our walk into town took us past a Ferris wheel and a group of residents engaged in a lively game of petanque, the popular game of Provence that is most similar to lawn bowling or bocce.  Our crew found a restaurant with open-air seating, a nice view of the yachts and fishing boats at the marina, and a diverse menu to suit all of our preferences. A couple of us chose pizzas, Colleen nabbed a big bucket of fresh mussels, and others picked fresh seafood and an appetizer of foie gras. Again, it was quite warm, so we needed gelato to refresh. Can you really say that you’ve been sailing in France and Italy without your daily gelato serving? 4. Boutique Experiences In Larger Ports Of Call While most ports on this itinerary are remote and quite serene, passengers did enjoy the chance to see Portofino and Saint Tropez, both of which ensured a great variety of beach time, shopping, sightseeing, and gourmet cuisine.  Saint Tropez offers a marvelous coastal trail, Sentier du Littoral, that goes for miles and takes you through a stunning and huge marine cemetery. The modern area of the city has nice parks and stores, while the Old Town area winds into a hillside with narrow cobbled streets.  We went off the ship for a dinner, and our group of five lucked into seats on a busy Friday night. We chose the popular Thai restaurant Koh Petrie and settled in for appetizers, bellinis, and beef, shrimp, and chicken curries. The cooler night temps and gentle breezes didn’t deter us from having a gelato night cap, obviously, as we strolled the lively street scene and gawked at the massive yachts in port. Pro Tip: If you’re planning to eat dinner off the ship in busier towns like Saint Tropez or Portofino, do some research and make a reservation online ahead of time so you aren’t left disappointed — and hungry! Diving Right In For Water Sports  Star Clipper cruises feature a number of included water sports activities for passengers to take on. The activities team brought the equipment to the beach a few times but also dropped it in the water just off the side of the vessel so that we could spend a good portion of the afternoon tooling around in the shadow of our picturesque sailing ship. Snorkeling masks were provided at the start of the trip and are yours to keep for use at your leisure during time ashore (the masks are returned at the end of the voyage).  When the paddle boards, kayaks, and sailing boats are put in the water, cruisers donned life jackets and descended the gangway to hop on their toy of choice to navigate the waters around Star Clipper.  Many simply wanted to hop in for a swim in the pleasant blue waters, and you could often look over the side of the ship during these times to see your fellow cruisers blissfully bobbing in the ocean like the happiest little corks you can imagine. John climbs the mast of Star Clipper. This activity is offered several times each voyage. Photo credit: Colleen McDaniel 6. Unleashing My Inner Sailor  One of the distinct charms of a sailing ship like Star Clipper is the chance to be on the decks amid the massive white sails and what seems like miles and miles of ropes.  The rigging and pulleys are all around you, and cruisers can even have a go at hoisting the mainsail during the late-afternoon sail away.  Grab the big wheel and make like you’re steering the ship for the perfect photo op to make your friends at home envious and to bring out that sailor spirit in you. I was especially looking forward to climbing the mast up to the crow’s nest. Star Clipper has a steep rope ladder that starts at the edge of the deck and rises more than 50 feet above the deck for the most incredible panoramic views. Brave wannabe pirates are harnessed in before they boldly scale the heights to crawl through a small opening and emerge onto a viewing platform. This is the spot to grab a picture with a bird’s-eye view of the ship’s deck below. Pro Tip: If you have your heart set on climbing the mast, show up early — at least 30 minutes before the scheduled signup time — so you can guarantee a timeslot for that day. Dancing The Night Away The sun goes down, but things keep on cooking onboard Star Clipper, with theme parties that flow right into disco and line-dancing marathons. On our sailing, a core group of passengers gathered each evening after dinner on the teak floor of the Tropical Bar at the top of the ship.  The bartenders served up Champagne, beers, and drinks of the day, like powerful rum pun...

Inaugurating Ayurved Parv, a three-day Ayurvedic Mela, at City Convention Centre, here, on Friday, the Governor said that the concepts and principles of Ayurveda put emphasis on holistic development of people. It is considered to be the most effective way to treat a wide range of ailments and live a healthy lifestyle. The primary objective of Ayurveda is to seek a balance between body, mind and spirit. Ayurveda recognises three fundamental forms of subtle energies- ‘vasta, pitta and kapha’ . These principles are present in every person out can be at different levels as per the basic biology of their body. It guides the people regarding food and life styles so that they can stay healthy. He further said that Ayurveda is believed’to be the oldest healing system originated in India as it traces its origin from the ancient Vedic times. This traditional system has been practised by scholars and disciples for over 5000 years now. Though the practice almost got lost with the passage of time due to British colonisation and modern medicine, the system is being revived in the country. Keeping in view of its importance, the Central government had set up Ministry of AYUSH and it has been functioning smoothly. The Ayurvedic system of treatment and medicine has widely been practiced in Kerala, which is encouraging and all should follow this system, he said. Central Council of Research in Ayurveda Sciences director general professor (Dr) Rabinarayan Acharya also spoke on the importance of Ayurveda for a healthy living and urged the people to understand the benefits of Ayurveda so as to maintain a disease-free healthy society. Wangkhei MLA Thangjam Arunkumar, DM University vice-chancellor professor N Rajmuhon, AYUSH director Dr A Guneshwor, Ayurveda Parv Manipur chairman Salam Rupachandra, national convenor and Vinoba Seva Pratisthan (VSP) general secretary Manoj Jena also attended the programme. Rome Clinches Playoff Spot At Hickory Hickory Daily Record
Rome Clinches Playoff Spot At Hickory – Hickory Daily Record https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/rome-clinches-playoff-spot-at-hickory-hickory-daily-record/ By MARK PARKER Record Sports Correspondent Needing a win in Friday night’s game at Hickory or a loss by Asheville in Greenville, South Carolina to clinch a playoff spot in the South Atlantic League, the Rome (Georgia) Braves got both a few minutes apart. The Braves slugged a grand slam for the third time this week but sweat out a late rally by the Crawdads to claim a 5-4 win in front of 4,603 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium. Rome (73-54 overall, 37-24 second half) clinched the South Division’s second-half title and will host defending league champion Bowling Green (Kentucky) in the first game of a best-of-three series Tuesday. The Hot Rods had already clinched their spot by outlasting the Crawdads in winning the first-half division race. Games 2 and 3, if necessary, are scheduled at Bowling Green on Thursday and Friday. The winner of that series will face the winner of the series between Aberdeen (Maryland) and Brooklyn in the championship series starting Sunday, Sept. 18. Hickory (66-64, 28-36) suffered its fourth loss in five games, including three of four in the current six-game series. The largest crowd of the season at L.P. Frans saw the home team take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning, as Angel Aponte (3-for-5) doubled in Evan Carter. However, the Braves quickly returned fire in the fourth to take the lead for good. Facing Gavin Collyer (0-1), who was promoted to Hickory from Low-A Down East (Kinston) Friday afternoon, Geraldo Quintero walked and Keshawn Ogans reached on a bunt single. A sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second before Adam Zebrowski’s sacrifice fly brought in Quintero to tie the game. Collyer walked Bryson Horne before appearing to escape further damage when Brandol Mezquita hit a grounder to Griffin Cheney at short. Cheney fielded the play cleanly, but missed a chance to flip to second for the final out. His throw to first pulled Cristian Inoa off the bag and allowed Mezquita to reach. The play proved to be crucial, as Kadon Morton hit the next pitch over the fence in left for a grand slam, his first homer with the team since a recent promotion. For the Braves, it was their third grand slam of the series, as the team hit one in each game of a doubleheader sweep of the Crawdads on Wednesday. From there, the Crawdads held the Braves in check and gave up just three hits in the game. Theo McDowell got the final out of the fourth in relief of Collyer and threw a perfect fifth inning. And John Matthews retired eight in a row from the sixth through the eighth to keep the Crawdads in the game before Spencer Mraz retired the side in the ninth. The Crawdads put together 11 hits among their 14 baserunners but went 3-of-14 with runners in scoring position and stranded 10. Carter singled in Jayce Easley to clip the deficit to 5-2 in the seventh. The Braves, who had a chance to clinch on Thursday but saw a 4-1 lead fade away with six outs left, nearly let another one slip by. With two outs and a runner on first in the ninth, Thomas Saggese swatted his 14th homer of the season to get the Crawdads within 5-4. The inning continued with Aponte singling to center. The next hitter, Chris Seise, hit a roller behind the bag at second that Quintero bobbled for an error. However, Cody Freeman flied out to right to end the game. Rome had actually clinched the division a few minutes prior to the final out at Hickory when Greenville walked off a 2-0 winner over Asheville on a two-run homer in the ninth. J.J. Niekro (3-2), son of former major league pitcher Joe Niekro and nephew of Phil Niekro, the Atlanta Braves’ Hall of Fame pitcher, picked up the win after giving up one run on four hits. He walked two and struck out four during his five-inning stint. Austin Smith fought through the ninth-inning trouble for his 13th save of the season. Collyer dropped to 0-1 with the five runs allowed in the fourth, though just one was earned. He struck out five, but walked four and hit a batter. The Crawdads and Braves are scheduled to wrap up the regular season with games Saturday night at 7 p.m. and Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. Get local news delivered to your inbox!

Metaverse Craze Hits Asia, With Cities And Companies Chasing After A $1.1 Trillion Pie – The Straits Times https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/metaverse-craze-hits-asia-with-cities-and-companies-chasing-after-a-1-1-trillion-pie-the-straits-times/ Virtual reality is the next big frontier, and Asia is vying for a piece of an industry worth an estimated $1.1 trillion by 2024. But it’s not all fun and games, as Asian Insider finds out. Into the metaverse: Riding the new tech wave in Asia In the new digital world dubbed the metaverse, you can do everything you do in real life and more – as an avatar. From gaming and shopping to socialising, going on vacations, and even buying land, you can do it all from the comfort of your home, donning virtual reality (VR) headsets for the ultimate experience. The metaverse has been a huge buzzword since Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg renamed the company Meta last November to usher in the new tech wave. Girl group Blackpink, for one, stormed into the metaverse platform ZEPETO as avatars first in mid-2020. The four-member group then held a virtual fan signing event – which drew more than 46 million fans – and performed together with American singer Selena Gomez. YG Entertainment, which represents Blackpink, said the collaboration allowed millions of fans to easily create Blackpink content, wear Blackpink-themed items and dance to their newest songs, which “would not be easily doable in real life”. By using our Services, you agree to our use of cookies. Learn More. Hulu/20th Century Studios After the poorly-received last entry in the franchise, director Shane Black’s “The Predator” in 2018, it’s been a pleasant surprise to see a new “Predator” movie delight both fans and critics. “Prey,” directed by Dan Trachtenberg of “10 Cloverfield Lane,” takes the “hunt or be hunted” thrills of the original 1987 movie and transplants the action to the 18th century Great Plains region of America and its indigenous people. The central highlight of “Prey” is its young protagonist, Naru (Amber Midthunder). She quickly establishes herself as an excellent, relatable sci-fi hero who’s trying to earn the respect of her tribe — specifically respect from her brother Taabe (Dakota Beavers) and his group of hunters. Naru is a trained healer, but to complete her right of passage as a hunter she decides she needs to take on the destructive new threat she will soon learn is a Predator (Dane DiLiegro). Throughout Naru’s journey, she continually proves that she’s both braver and more clever than her community gives her credit for. But she isn’t just an unstoppable action hero — she’s fallible and human, making many mistakes that only make her a more engaging, well-rounded character. Ultimately, of course, she’s able to outsmart the intergalactic hunter by having the guts to lure him into a risky trap. Midthunder gets a lot of moments to shine in “Prey,” so let’s get down to ranking Naru’s finest scenes by looking at her bravery on display in each of them. 12. Saving Sarii from the bear trap Hulu/20th Century Studios Right away in the first five minutes of the movie, we’re given a telling glimpse into the kind of character Naru will prove herself to be. At the start of “Prey,” Naru’s trusty companion dog Sarrii (played by performing pup Coco) gets her leg stuck in a bear trap. Not only does this foreshadow later scenes in which bear traps will appear in much more dire circumstances, it also says a lot about Naru without any dialogue at all. By saving her dog, the first thing we get to know about Naru is her compassion and her utter fearlessness when a loved one is hurt. Despite her struggles with them, she values her family and will protect them at all costs. This is one very important aspect of the character — actions speak louder than words in this sequence that showcases Naru’s bravery early on. However, this isn’t all there is to the movie’s young Comanche hero. She is, above all, incredibly driven to prove herself as a hunter, despite the gender norms of her tribe (and the world in general). This drive will go on to inspire her actions throughout “Prey.” 11. Saving herself from the quicksand swamp with the rope axe Hulu/20th Century Studios Despite its setting in the early 1700s, “Prey” is still recognizably a “Predator” movie, and clearly Trachtenberg and his crew recognized their obligation to bring some sweet new gadgets for the Predator to use. Luckily, “Prey” delivers spectacularly on this front, but one of the coolest pieces of tech in the film is actually developed by Naru. Early on into hunting the alien (before she has any idea what she’s really up against), she ties a rope to her hatchet in order to be able to throw and retrieve the weapon quickly.  Trachtenberg revealed during an interview with ComicBook.com that he drew inspiration from the “God of War” video games for this rope axe that allows Naru to pull off some stylish kills without ever losing her trusty weapon. It goes on to pay off with a crucial role in the movie, particularly in the scene when Naru first stumbles into the quicksand swamp and finds herself sinking with seemingly little hope of escape. The only way out is to use the rope axe to latch onto a downed tree and pull herself up. This moment highlights Naru’s resourcefulness and her ability to think on her feet — a unique form of bravery that will prove to be important later on. 10. No, he has us Hulu/20th Century Studios After attacking the Comanche hunting party in the bloody scene prior, the Predator stalks Naru and Itsee (Harlan Blayne Kytwayhat) into the tall grass clearing near the camp. Hiding out in the grass, Itsee — an overconfident hunter in the Comanche tribe — spots the Predator and thinks he has the upper hand. He even says to Naru, “We have him.” A moment too late, Naru realizes that the Predator’s trio of targeting lasers have locked on to Itsee. She responds with a chilling observation: “No, he has us.” Naru tells Itsee to run and motions for him to get down, ensuring that the Predator’s shot just misses. But still, it’s no use. As the two run away, Itsee is caught by the Predator and dies in one of the most brutal deaths “Prey” has to offer. This moment illustrates that although she hasn’t gotten the chance to prove herself, Naru truly is a skilled hunter who uses her instincts to assess a situation. She has the wisdom to recognize that it isn’t always cowardly to run — choosing what keeps you alive in a long battle of attrition with a foe like the Predator is always the correct choice.  9. Making a deal with Raphael to learn how to use a gun Hulu/20th Century Studios After the Predator’s assault on the French trappers’ camp, Naru returns to retrieve Sarii, but she’s surprised to find that one of the men still clings to life. The survivor turns out to be the group’s translator, Raphael (Bennett Taylor). He begs Naru to heal him before he bleeds out. However, taking advantage of her position of power, Naru says that she will only do it if Raphael teaches her how to use his Flintlock pistol. Barely clinging to life, the translator has no choice but to agree to her terms. After demonstrating how it works, he gives her the Flintlock and Naru gives him medicinal herbs to treat his bleeding wound. Aside from giving Naru a gun that she will obviously use to take down the Predator later, this moment proves itself to be an opportunity for her. After she uses the herbs on Raphael the Predator returns, allowing Naru to discover a hidden property of her medicine. The Predator can’t see Raphael due to his reduced body heat, and that’s when Naru realizes that its vision is based on heat signatures. This moment is, of course, a big reference to the original “Predator,” echoing the scene in which Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Dutch discovers that the Predator can’t see him when he’s covered in mud. 8. Leaving home to go after the Predator Hulu/20th Century Studios Sometimes, there’s a thin line between bravery and being an idiot. And sharp as she may be, Naru is riding that line hard when she decides to leave the Comanche camp without telling anyone where she’s headed. In pursuit of the Predator, Naru is getting in way over her head. Ultimately, though, this proves to be an act of bravery instead of foolishness, proving to be a real turning point in “Prey.” Naru needs to embark on her “kühtaamia,” a rite of passage that all hunters must undergo in order to prove themselves to the tribe. The details of this ritual are important, since they require the hunter to hunt an animal that can also hunt them — a predator. Naru realizes before everyone else that the alien interloper is a hunter, and she accepts his arrival as a sign it is her time to be tested. The moment she decides to go out on her own, without anyone’s help, Naru commits to making this hunt her kühtaamia, and it drives her for the rest of the movie. Naru is determined not to rest until she brings that Predator’s head back. 7. Returning with the Predator’s head Hulu/20th Century Studios At the end of the movie, Naru gets to complete her arc in a triumphant finale. As she returns from the hunt victorious, she comes back to the camp covered in neon green Predator blood with the head of her prey held in her hands. It’s the most empowering moment Naru gets in the whole movie, bringing her character full circle. As the community gathers around her, she holds the head high to accept her rightful place as a Comanche warrior. She isn’t just any warrior, though — Naru is the sole survivor of her tribe’s warriors. This isn’t merely Naru coming back from her kühtaamia, regularly a cause for celebration, but her returning as the savior of her tribe. Having killed the creature that took her brother and the rest of the male hunters, Naru has made her way to the top of the food chain in a short matter of time. With the rest of the hunters dead, Naru remains the singular defense the tribe has. When she departed she wasn’t yet a hunter, but at the end of “Prey” Naru returns as a leader. 6. Smarter than a beaver Hulu/20th Century Studios After they’re both independently captured by the French trappers, Naru and Taabe are tied up to a tree together and used as bait for the Predator. But since the Predator only hunts humans and animals who pose a threat to it, it ignores the captives and goes straight for the armed trappers who are waiting in the wings to attack. Amid the chaos, Naru thinks on her feet to figure out how to free herself and Taabe from their ropes. Upon seeing the bear trap on the group near their restraints, Naru figures out how she can use it to cut their ropes. Trachtenberg uses this opportunity to trick the viewer, as Naru begins telling Taabe a story about how a beaver will escape from traps by chewing its own leg off. Taabe begins to panic, thinking his sister is about to sacrifice their limbs for their freedom. She doesn’t, instead dropping a rock to successfully cut the rope before declaring, “I’m smarter than a beaver.” It’s an undeniably cool one-liner in the vein of ’80s action movies like “Predator.” 5. Assault on the trapper camp Hulu/20th Century Studios One of the most brutal moments in “Prey” doesn’t even need...

Government Regulators Express Concern As Pension Fund Managers Dip Into Crypto – NPR https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/government-regulators-express-concern-as-pension-fund-managers-dip-into-crypto-npr/ Government regulators express concern as pension fund managers dip into crypto Should retirement funds invest in risky assets like crypto? It’s reminiscent of an earlier debate, one that involved a fledgling venture capital industry and something known as the prudent man rule. ARI SHAPIRO, HOST: Pension fund managers are dipping their toes into crypto, and government regulators are saying, be careful. That concern over whether retirement funds should get mixed up with new kinds of investments is an old one. Wailin Wong and Darian Woods from Planet Money’s The Indicator explain. WAILIN WONG, BYLINE: The 1960s were a boom time for private pension plans. And by 1970, these pensions were holding over $100 billion of assets. DARIAN WOODS, BYLINE: But this growth also brought problems, like corruption and mismanagement. The government and President Gerald Ford stepped in. WONG: On Labor Day 1974, the president signed a new law called the Employment Retirement Income Security Act, or ERISA. ERISA established that pensions needed special protections, which meant the people who managed that money should be held to high standards. They should follow something called the prudent man rule. M R SAUTER: The prudent man standard says if you’re a fiduciary of a trust, you have to make your investments in the way a prudent man would manage his own affairs. WONG: M.R. Sauter is an assistant professor at the College of Information Studies at the University of Maryland, and they’re quoting the original prudent man standard, which came out of a Supreme Court case from 1830. The language in ERISA was modified, but the basic principle was the same – when deciding how to invest, pension managers should channel this prudent man. WOODS: For example, a prudent man puts his money in U.S. Treasury bonds and blue-chip stocks. WONG: The new law also identified what the prudent man would not do. It said that investments in new or untried enterprises were imprudent, and this was very alarming to what was then a budding venture capital industry. SAUTER: The venture capital firms that had just started getting involved with institutional investors were like, what happened to all that money? WONG: And so this small but very motivated group of venture capital boosters started lobbying for changes to ERISA. And in 1979, they succeeded in getting a couple crucial changes to the prudent man standard. WOODS: Change No. 1 was adopting a more flexible stance on risk. SAUTER: It’s this idea that high-risk investments are OK as long as you’re balancing them with low-risk investments. WONG: Change No. 2 – pension funds could put up to 10% of their assets in venture funds. SAUTER: After the ERISA clarification in 1979, there are many people who come out of the woodwork and are like, this has saved venture capital. WONG: So should a prudent person invest in crypto? Well, the Department of Labor is urging caution. JASMIN SETHI: It is a guidance telling people to be on guard for the various risks. WOODS: Jasmin Sethi is an associate director of policy research at Morningstar. WONG: Jasmin says some of the biggest risks around crypto are a lack of consistent valuations and the absence of legal protections if something goes wrong. SETHI: We don’t want a bunch of people very upset about losses or hacking or other issues and then saying, oh, where’s the government? WONG: There are already signs of a sharp divide between the government and certain investors when it comes to crypto. One 401(k) provider has sued the Department of Labor over the guidance it issued. It says the agency is overstepping its authority and unfairly restricting crypto investments. WOODS: So for now, it’s looking like the government and the financial sector could be headed for another showdown over what the prudent investor should be doing. WONG: Wailin Wong. REUTERS/Andrew Kelly/File Photo Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com WASHINGTON, Sept 9 (Reuters) – The U.S. Justice Department and Donald Trump’s attorneys said on Friday they are deeply divided over whether classified records seized by the FBI from the former president’s Florida estate should be reviewed by a special master, and they each put forth a separate list of candidates for the job. In a joint filing on Friday evening, the U.S. Justice Department told U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon that Trump’s legal team is insisting that the special master should be allowed to review “all seized materials, including documents with classification markings.” Trump’s lawyers also want the special master, an independent third-party, to review the records for possible executive privilege claims – a mandate the department opposes. A special master is an independent third-party sometimes appointed by a federal court to weed through sensitive records that could be privileged and segregate them so they are not viewed by prosecutors and do not taint a criminal investigation. The Justice Department said it is proposing two candidates for special master: Retired judge Barbara Jones, who previously served as a special master in cases involving Trump’s former lawyers Rudy Giuliani and Michael Cohen, or retired judge Thomas Griffith, an appointee of Republican President George W. Bush who served on the D.C. appeals court from 2005-2020. Trump’s team proposed Raymond Dearie, a judge on senior status in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York and former U.S. Attorney who served on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, and Paul Huck, Florida’s former Deputy Attorney General and a former partner with Jones Day, a law firm that previously represented Trump’s campaign. Both sides also said they disagree on whether the special master should be required to consult with the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration, which is tasked with preserving executive branch documents. In addition, neither side could agree on who should pay for the special master, with Trump’s team proposing to split the costs and the Justice Department saying Trump should pay since he requested it in the first place. JUDGE HAD ORDERED ARBITER Trump is under investigation for retaining government records, some of which were marked as highly classified, at his Palm Beach, Florida, home after leaving office in January 2021. The government is also investigating possible obstruction of the probe. The documents probe is one of several federal and state investigations Trump is facing from his time in office and in private business. He has suggested he might run for the White House again in 2024, but has not made any commitment. The joint filing came after Cannon, a Trump appointee in Fort Pierce, Florida, ordered the appointment of a special master arbiter on Monday, granting a request by Trump. After the Justice Department warned on Thursday that doing so could slow the government’s effort to determine whether classified documents were still missing, Cannon said in a court filing she was willing to consider limiting the special master’s role so that person would not review classified documents. Cannon on Monday barred federal prosecutors from continuing to use any of the seized records for their ongoing criminal probe until a special master could review them, though she carved out a narrow exemption allowing U.S. intelligence officials to continue their intelligence risk assessment. The Justice Department on Thursday asked her to reconsider, saying it opposes giving a special master access to classified records, and needs to continue reviewing them both for the criminal probe and the national security assessment. They also said the criminal probe and intelligence assessment are inextricably linked, and that the government was forced to pause its intelligence review amid the legal uncertainty ruling her order has created. Prosecutors gave Cannon until Sept. 15 to decide. If she rules against them, they threatened to appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. Trump, for his part, has said on social media that he declassified all the records – a claim his lawyers have avoided repeating in legal filings to the court. The government “wrongly assumes that if a document has a classification marking, it remains classified in perpetuity,” they said on Friday. Now that Trump’s team has voiced its opposition to the department’s request, it remains to be seen whether Cannon will agree to exclude the classified materials from the special master’s mandate. Of the more than 11,000 seized records, there are only about 100 documents with classification markings. Trump’s team has until Monday to formally spell out its position on the Justice Department’s request. Cannon has also faced criticism for previously ruling that the special master will be tasked with reviewing records not just covered by attorney-client privilege, but also by executive privilege as well. The Justice Department has questioned the logic of her decision, noting the government records are not Trump’s personal property and he is no longer president. The U.S. Supreme Court last year side-stepped the question of how far a former president’s privilege claims can go in rejecting Trump’s bid to keep White House records from a congressional panel investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot by his supporters. However, the U.S. National Archives, after conferring with the Justice Department, told Trump’s lawyers earlier this year that he cannot assert privilege against the executive branch to shield the records from the FBI.
