Blue Zones Discoverer Dan Buettner To Keynote At The 2022 Global Wellness Summit – PR Web https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/blue-zones-discoverer-dan-buettner-to-keynote-at-the-2022-global-wellness-summit-pr-web/
Dan’s work on how total environment and culture are the lynchpins of longevity is increasingly changing the way the world thinks about health, wellness, prevention and aging
MIAMI (PRWEB) September 08, 2022
The Global Wellness Summit (GWS), the most prestigious conference on the $4.4 trillion business of wellness, today announced that Dan Buettner, who famously identified the Blue Zones–those five places around the world where people live significantly better, longer lives–will keynote at the conference being held in Tel Aviv, Israel from October 31 to November 3. Buettner is an explorer, a National Geographic Fellow, an award-winning journalist and producer, and the author of four runaway bestsellers. His new book, “Blue Zones American Kitchen,” which uncovers the traditional roots of plant-forward cuisine in the US, will be released in December. A four-part documentary series on lessons from the Blue Zones will premiere in early 2023.
Since 2004, Buettner has been researching Blue Zone communities (in Sardinia, Italy; Okinawa, Japan; Nicoya, Costa Rica; Ikaria, Greece; and Loma Linda, California) to understand what keeps people thriving and healthy to age 100. His discovery: their longevity has nothing to do with self-discipline, or complex health and fitness regimes. Instead, it’s these communities’ holistic ecosystems that make the healthy choice the easy one: Residents are naturally “nudged” toward daily movement, a plant-based diet, strong social connections, and a sense of purpose.
New research on longevity diets: At the Summit, he will present his latest research on what the world’s longest-lived people eat and the eye-opening impact that diet has on longevity. He will share surprising insights from his new “Blue Zones American Kitchen,” which uncovers the regions and cultures that have shaped America’s healthiest food landscapes. These include some of the most under-recognized plant-forward communities, from Hmong elders in Minnesota to Quakers in New England. Buettner will explore how a restoration of these specific, traditional healthy eating subcultures around the world could save us trillions of dollars a year in healthcare costs.
“Dan wowed delegates at the 2018 Summit and we’re thrilled to have him share his latest research this year. His work on how total environment and culture are the lynchpins of longevity is increasingly changing the way the world thinks about health, wellness, prevention and aging. And it’s also having a growing impact on public policy, wellness community design, and longevity science, all big topics at this year’s conference,” said Susie Ellis, GWS chair and CEO.
“The overwhelming finding from my years of research is that the path to a long and happy life is not about changing your habits, it’s about changing your surroundings. Leaders in public policy, architecture and design, wellness real estate, and hospitality that will gather at the conference now have the greatest opportunity to architect communities and environments so that people’s daily decisions are naturally the healthy ones,” said Buettner. “I’m so happy to return to the Summit. I’ve given thousands of speeches in the last decade and I rarely return to a conference, but I had more fun at the GWS in Italy than I’ve had at any conference ever.”
Longevity Science–A Key Summit Topic: The longevity science market is forecast to reach $600 billion by 2025, and new approaches that can bring unprecedented increases to the quality and length of human lifespans (“healthspans”) have become one of the buzzed-about topics in wellness and medicine. It will be a key focus at this year’s GWS, where Buettner will join medical experts such as Shai Efrati, MD, of Tel Aviv University, who is pioneering medical hyperbaric oxygen treatments shown to reverse the biology of aging, and Tzipora Strauss, MD, who is co-leading a new longevity medicine research center at Israel’s Sheba University.
More about Buettner:
Buettner’s books, “The Blue Zones: Lessons for Living Longer from the People Who’ve Lived the Longest,” “Thrive: Finding Happiness the Blue Zones Way,” “The Blue Zones of Happiness,” and “The Blue Zones Solution: Eating and Living Like the World’s Healthiest People,” were all global bestsellers. He regularly appears on major news programs, including the Today Show, NBC Nightly News and the BBC, and has keynoted at some of the most important global conferences, including the World Economic Forum and Bill Clinton’s Health Matters Initiative. He also holds three Guinness World Records in distance cycling.
Registration for the 2022 Summit is open.

Dropp Group has acquired metaverse platform Phly for $25 million to build “digital twins” of the major cities in the world.
Dropp said it is combining with Phly (which also spells its name Flyy), a social metaverse platform, to develop the a physical digital twin (‘phygital experience’) of every major city in the world to bridge digital and real-world locations for consumers, communities and brands who aspire to seamlessly onramp into Web3. The deal shows that the metaverse may be moving into an acquisition phase after seeing a burst of startup activity.
DroppLabs, the innovation arm of Dropp Group, will use the to deploy Flyy technology to create MetaReality — which it calls the commercial and multisensory evolution of the metaverse. Accessed through the DroppTV consumer facing platform, MetaReality will provide users unique, value driven Web3 experiences unavailable elsewhere, the company said.
“Our acquisition of Phly represents a major leap forward for our company and platform. By integrating our innovative technologies, we will deliver the most complete and compelling metaverse experience anywhere,” said Gurpreet “Gurps” Rai, Dropp’s CEO, in a statement. “Our mission is to enable communities to build the world that they want to live in.”
Dropp is using Phly to move into digital twins.
The platform will feature fully immersive digital renderings of cities around the world, starting with the most iconic locations and buildings. Each building will be minted as a unique NFT so owners have access to Dropp’s proprietary technology resources to build and engage communities.
Phly’s Founder & CEO, Adel Al Massarani, has joined dropp as Chief Metaverse Officer and will head up dropp’s new MetaReality division, “I am thrilled to bring Flyy into the dropp group portfolio. Collectively, we are now poised to revolutionize the metaverse and Web3 industries.”
Gurpreet Rai is CEO of Dropp.
The company said DroppTV harnesses DroppLabs’ proprietary technology to connect consumers, creators and brands through an interoperable ecosystem allowing for streamlined experiential commerce between the physical and digital worlds.
Dropp said it enables brands to achieve enhanced affinity, increased conversions and granular attribution for data. In addition, DroppTV offers unique comprehensive experiential NFT (non-fungible token) and social token capabilities, empowering partners and consumers to generate even greater value in Web3.
Dropp was founded in 2018, as was Phly. Dropp has 35 full-time employees while Phly has nine.
“We acquired Flyy because of their technology’s unique complement to our existing tech stack and deliverables for consumers and clients,” Rai said in an email to GamesBeat. “We know current metaverse offerings have substantial barriers to entry. For example, they require specialized knowledge of certain technologies such as crypto, and they lack true utility. Most are also not mobile friendly. That said, our overall objective as a company is to create an easily understood and accessible on-ramp for everyday consumers and companies to Web3 and the related experiences it offers and the assets acquired from Phly will allow us to do that.”
He added, “Acquiring Flyy has allowed us to accelerate our comprehensive Web3 roadmap versus creating a compelling metaverse offering from scratch. Now we are able to focus on evolving and adapting owned technologies, giving us critical speed to market in an intense market race. Flyy’s capabilities, when combined with our existing tech stack, will collectively drive this seamless experience from Web2 to Web3 quickly and efficiently in an enjoyable environment.”
As for the vision for the metaverse, Rai said, “Our vision for the Metaverse is to combine digital and physical experiences into one. As we bridge our consumers and clients from Web2 to Web3, the Metaverse is the last mile extension of this natural progression. This will allow IP owners, companies and consumers to generate maximum experiential and economic value. Consumers will now be able to live in both environments simultaneously from anywhere on their mobile device.”
He added, “Our plan for MetaReality is to also aggregate, enable and amplify communities – providing a platform for users and fans to independently grow and market with relevant ideas, experiences and commercial concepts. IP owners and companies will have the ability to integrate their fan and consumer experiences across the physical and digital worlds thereby making their offering much more accessible and powerful.”
Phly and Dropp are combining to go after the metaverse opportunity.
I asked why the Phly assets were valuable. Raid said Phly’s technology allows Dropp to create a true physical, digital twin of locations that exist in real life – which the company has coined as “MetaReality.”
“The nature of the Flyy technology also enables us to roll out ‘metaverse as a service,’” he said. “We can rent out and parse out our platform to others that will be portable into other platforms and experiences. Essentially this allows owners in the metaverse to build out their own ecosystems using dropp’s technology including AR, MR and gamified capabilities.”
From a development efficiency perspective, the Dropp and Phly apps are both built in unity, which allows for seamless integration and quicker roll-out.
Dropp said it is harnessing the Phly assets and putting them on optimal Web3 rails which are being identified and will soon be activated. The result will be a comprehensive, easy-to-use offering integrated within the dropp app, complimentary dropp products and our enterprise client eco-systems, Dropp said.
“In the short term, we already have active dropp clients, such as Universal/Def Jam artist/actor Dave East, Elite Hospitality and Tajia diamonds, that have a real and present opportunity to expand into the metaverse which we can now quickly activate,” Rai said. “MetaReality will also be combined with our SuperFan experience, providing IP owners and their followers a dynamic ‘place’ for activations and experiences – something the marketplace currently does not offer.”
As for consolidation, Raid said it will not mean exactly what it did in the Web2 world. In Web2, businesses consolidated to reduce redundant personnel and processes, gain market share, and improve their bottom-line revenue, he said.
“While these goals can be essential for a company to survive and excel, consolation in the Web3 space will be more customer-centric. Web3 business consolidation will focus on offering consumers and end-users a more seamless, smooth engagement across platforms. Interoperability will be a guiding principle, and decentralized digital assets, like NFTs, will make this possible,” he said. “FAANG (the big tech platform companies) and other large centralized tech companies dominated in the Web2 world because they were closest to the server and the databases they owned. In Web3, the consumers and their digital goods are one-and-the-same; they are not beholden to by a particular server or database.”
He said people can move themselves and their digital assets throughout the internet as they please. As a Web3 company, Dropp Group is consolidating with Phlynot only because it makes business sense, but also because it will provide our customers a smooth and uninterrupted digital experience, he said.
“As a company, we are concentrating on speed to market and on-ramping while acquiring and adopting technology resources and maximizing interoperability between our portfolio offerings in anticipation of the continuation of the rapid consolidation that we are seeing around us,” Rai said. “We see the consolidation in the industry as a positive force, collaborative projects that are building long-term products, communities and economies will still be here as opposed to projects with short term gold rush philosophies.”
As for the economic downturn, Rai said, “We share humbly and proudly that we have strong access to capital with some of the deepest pockets in the world on our cap table. We see the market turn as an opportunity and are positioning ourselves to take advantage of the dry spell to entrench ourselves as a Web3 market leader. The downturn and our recent financing actually puts us in a stronger position relative to the market and potential competitors.”
He said the company is also putting together a venture fund to help promising companies survive and thrive. The company plans on activating its technology, communities and resources as an angel and enabler for select high potential companies.
“We are confident this growth strategy optimally positions us not only for the current environment but also for the next market bull-run,” Rai said.

Investing In Technology During Inflation? Experts Share Whats Best. USA TODAY
Investing In Technology During Inflation? Experts Share What’s Best. – USA TODAY https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/investing-in-technology-during-inflation-experts-share-whats-best-usa-today/
Investors can find bargains in a beaten-down stock market.
Fintech is an area that is recession and inflation proof, some experts argue.
Companies that help consumers save or earn money can weather periods of economic uncertainty, they say..
Look for companies that are also profitable or close to profitability, the caution.
Investors worried about 8.5% inflation and anxious about the possibility of a recession this fall may find some bright spots in the tech sector, experts say.
USA TODAY spoke to more than a dozen C-level tech executives about a variety of topics including tech job prospects, a possible recession and what technology investments might be able to weather volatile markets best. That context and knowledge are critical for investors who are looking to put their money into something solid, reliable and likely to stay stable or grow long term, experts said.
Though each executive had a unique viewpoint, there were some things they could all agree on, and one of those was that a down stock market can offer great opportunities for bargains.
The future of crypto: After fall of bitcoin prices, is cryptocurrency a good investment?
Tech bubble has burst: But you might be able to pick up some discounts
So what investments do well in inflation?
Kristy Kim, CEO and founder of TomoCredit, a financial technology firm that allows people with no or minimal credit history to build equity, said her business allows her to see which parts of the economy continue thriving even when there is a recession or high inflation.
Financial technology, or fintech, is a part of the tech sector that uses technology like software to solve or help existing financial processes like banking, real estate or accounting.
“The parts of tech that are recession-proof are related to consumers’ essential day-to-day spending,” Kim told USA TODAY.
Another approach if you are looking to invest in something that could be inflation- or recession-proof, is to identify technologies that are must-haves, they said.
Sarah Biller is the co-founder of fintech Sandbox and an executive director of investing firm Vantage Ventures.
“Fintech is by its nature recession and inflation proof,” Biller said. “We can point to thousands of years of history where financial services adopted the latest ‘technologies’ of the day regardless of the economic climate.”
How to invest in technology
That is especially true for parts of the tech market that help consumers make their lives easier.
When consumers depend on a piece or type of technology that simplifies things they are doing anyway, there is likely to be a smart investment opportunity, said Matt Senter, CTO and co-founder of bitcoin rewards app Lolli.
“Tech products that help consumers save or earn money, manage their finances, or streamline buying necessities are best positioned to weather inflation in the long run,” Senter told USA TODAY.
The inverse is also true: If trendy and fun technology is also expensive and nonessential, people won’t need to buy it.
That includes things like Apple’s new iPhone 14; ultra-luxe devices like the latest version of a smartwatch; or other gadgets and gizmos that look cool but are more status symbols than critical tools.
“As high inflation puts pressure on consumers’ purchasing power, we’ll see luxury tech products falter while technology that facilitates smart shopping and spending habits will proliferate and thrive,” Senter said.
Don’t buy an iPhone now:And other do’s and don’ts on eve of tech’s hype-filled fall
Tech investing needs innovation to survive
Diana Lee, CEO and co-founder of Constellation, a digital marketing and software-as-a-service (SaaS) company, said that tech does have one advantage in economically uncertain times: innovation.
Lee said that because tech continues to grow and evolve, investors have a higher likelihood of putting their cash into products that save people time and money. .
“Right now, people are looking for automated, cost-efficient tools. Overall, if you can cut manpower and become more efficient, people are looking for those solutions because overall, then you’ll be able to save money,” Lee said.
How to invest like a pro
Kraig Swensrud was the former CMO at Salesforce and is currently the CEO at Qualified, which is the pipeline cloud for Salesforce. He said to think about your tech investment the way a professional tech venture capital or angel investor might.
School safety: How tech can help keep your kids safe at school
“When businesses pull back on spend(ing), is a product mission critical or just nice-to-have? Swensrud said. “Enterprise software that automates a core process or workflow, such as closing sales, collecting cash, or servicing customers, or helps keep a company secure are typically products that are,” critical, he said.
Sean Harper, co-founder and CEO of Kin Insurance, said that at the very least investors should remember one rule when looking for recession- or inflation-proof companies.
“Companies that are close to profitability, or at least are profitable on a unit basis, will fare better than those who are not,” Harper said.
Recession and investments: 3 ways you can help your investments survive a recession
No investment is risk-free
Even “bulletproof” businesses like health services and drug manufacturing include segments that ultimately depend on consumers having money – something that they may have less of if inflation continues at high levels and the economy enters a downturn.
“We say that pharma businesses are recession-proof, but that is not true, there are no businesses that are completely recession-proof,” said Lee of Constellation.
“If you can’t pay the copay or if you can’t pay money out of pocket, you can’t afford the drug,” she said. “If a recession hits, it hits everyone all the way around.”

GameStop is not easing its push into the Web 3.0 space even after underwhelming non-fungible token (NFT) adoption figures. The video game and consumer electronics retailer has announced a partnership with cryptocurrency exchange FTX.US, the U.S. subsidiary of FTX.
Bloomberg reports that GameStop and FTX.US intend to collaborate on new e-commerce and online marketing initiatives. While the financial terms of the deal are not disclosed, GameStop will also begin carrying FTX gift cards in a selection of its stores, the report notes.
According to Bloomberg, the partnership has several implications for GameStop, which has seen an 11% rise in the price of its share following the announcement. GameStop has been seeing declining revenues after last recording a quarterly profit at the end of 2021.
The agreement buttresses GameStop’s foray into the crypto market as it looks for strategies to improve its ailing revenue figures. Most significantly, it builds on the launch of GameStop’s June NFT wallet to store, receive and send digital collectibles roll out, and its July rollout of an NFT marketplace.
The partnership with FTX.US also unites GameStop with Robinhood, the retail stocks trading app that has a place of honor in GameStop’s success in 2021. FTX.US’s founder and CEO Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) took a 7.6% stake in Robinhood earlier this year.
While SBF has debunked rumors that he was in talks to buy Robinhood in an interview with Reuters, FTX US has continued to expand its stock trading services and plans to also offer options trading as it looks to diversify its income stream away from only digital assets trading fees.
GameStop NFTs yet to show any positive results for the company
GameStop’s pivot to NFTs, while still in its early days, is yet to have an impact on the company’s revenue. In its last quarterly report, the company’s net sales declined by 4% while net losses doubled to $108.7 million quarter on quarter according to Bloomberg.
Data from GameStop’s NFT marketplace shows that sales of its gaming NFTs have been hard to come by. After the initial buzz in July where it generated around $1.98 million worth of NFT sales on its first full day of business, enthusiasm seems to have died down.
Per data from NFT data aggregator DappRadar, GameStop NFT has seen an about 65% decline in sales volume. The marketplace generated $5.47 million in NFT sales in the last 30 days from around 7,800 traders.
Meanwhile, the marketplace has already run into its first legal battle after the developer of a game complained that items linked to his game were being sold on the marketplace without his consent.

50 Years Later, The Chaotic End Of A U.S.-USSR Basketball Game Still Stings – The Washington Post https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/50-years-later-the-chaotic-end-of-a-u-s-ussr-basketball-game-still-stings-the-washington-post/
The most recent Olympic controversy — the positive doping test of a teenage Russian figure skating star — hovered over the Beijing Winter Games, a swirl of unpleasantness that included accusations of cheating, questions about the objectivity of Olympic officials and medals left unrewarded, all in a climate of global tension between world powers.
It also carried a certain echo from the past. A half-century ago this week, the Soviet Union stunned the United States in a controversy-marred men’s basketball game to claim the Olympic gold medal. But the end of that Cold War faceoff arrived with questions about fair play and potential bias in the officiating, and the United States team — tormented by the final contentious seconds — refused to accept their silver medals. Fifty years later, the International Olympic Committee still has those medals — and the Americans still have their pain.
“Those medals are going to be in Lausanne Switzerland for a thousand years from now,” Tom McMillen, an American forward on that team, said in a recent interview.
It all resulted from a game that was not expected to deliver drama or dispute. The United States had won 63 consecutive Olympic men’s basketball games, claiming every gold medal dating to 1936, when the sport was first contested as a medal event. Although the young U.S. amateurs were facing a team of older, more experienced Soviet players, the Americans were heavily favored going into the gold medal game, which took place 50 years ago Friday.
Even before tip-off, those Summer Olympics were mired in questions of whether the Games should continue. Days earlier, Palestinian militants had killed 11 Israeli athletes and coaches at the Munich Olympic Village. In an editorial, the New York Times asked, “Are medals and commercial contracts more important than human lives?”
But the president of the International Olympic Committee, Avery Brundage declared, “The Games must go on.” It was a familiar position for Brundage. As head of the American Olympic Committee four decades earlier, he had forcefully and successfully pushed for the United States to participate in the last Olympics in Germany — the infamous 1936 “Nazi Olympics” in Berlin.
Now, 36 years later, the Games had returned to Germany — technically, West Germany, another Cold War product. And rather than providing any healing, this game would instead open new wounds.
A late start and a chaotic ending
The gold medal game began at 11:45 p.m. local time to accommodate a prime-time broadcast in the United States. The U.S.S.R. was well-prepared, and dominated early.
Neil Amdur, who covered the game for the New York Times, wrote in a 2012 retrospective piece that the Soviets had “done their homework. They won eight of nine games on a 1971 United States tour with their Olympic lineup.”
“The Americans were a talented, college-dominated squad with little experience in international play,” he added. “The Soviets had a total of 739 international games among the starting five entering the 1972 Games, compared with only seven games for the Americans.”
Meanwhile, the U.S. coach, Hank Iba, “had lost touch with an evolving up-tempo game, espousing a disciplined defense,” Amdur observed.
“It was very difficult for me, because that’s not the way I ever grew up playing basketball,” recalled McMillen, who played 11 seasons in the NBA and later served as a congressman from Maryland. The Americans “were really athletic — and it seemed to me that it was subsuming their athleticism.”
With 10 minutes left, the Soviets had a 10-point lead, and “at that point in time, (guard) Kevin Joyce and a few of the guys just went out on their own and started running, and really took the game back,” McMillen said.
With time running out and the Soviets ahead by one, Doug Collins stole the ball for the Americans and drove to the basket, where he was fouled hard by a Soviet defender. Collins went to the free throw line with three seconds left, and sank both shots, giving the Americans a 50-49 lead.
An international Amateur Basketball Federation (FIBA) rule at the time didn’t allow for a timeout to be called after a second free throw, so the Soviets had to rush the ball across the court, and as a Soviet player dribbled the ball at half-court, it looked like the Americans would win the game. But the Soviet coaches complained that a timeout they had called between Collins’s free throws hadn’t been granted, and as they disrupted the scorer’s table, a referee stopped the action with one second left.
At that point, Renato William Jones — the British head and co-founder of FIBA — ordered the clock reset to three seconds.
“Bedlam has taken over here at the basketball hall,” broadcaster Frank Gifford said on the ABC telecast.
So the Soviets inbounded the ball again from under their own basket, but failed to score as time expired. “It’s all over!” Gifford yelled as the American players rushed the court in celebration. “Wow, what a finish, the United States winning their eighth consecutive gold medal!” A final score of USA 50, U.S.S.R. 49 flashed across the screen.
Then a more subdued Gifford: “Now, we’re being told the scoreboard is not correct.”
It turned out that when the play began, the clock read 50 seconds, not three seconds. So the Soviets were given yet another chance.
As Soviet player Ivan Edeshko prepared to inbound the ball, the 6-foot, 11-inch McMillen guarded him along the baseline, but a language barrier wound up giving Edeshko a clear passing lane.
“There was a referee pointing at my legs, and he was Romanian, he didn’t speak English,” McMillen recalled. “Under international rules, as long as the [inbounding] player can back up, you don’t have to get off the line. It’s his responsibility to back up if he wants more room. But the referee’s pointing at my feet — I’m behind the line, I’m not breaking a rule, why is he pointing at my feet? I thought he was telling me to get off the line, and the last thing I want is to get called for a technical foul at that point. And that’s why I backed off. It was a language issue.”
Standing on the other side of the court was Soviet forward Aleksander Belov, to whom Edeshko made a perfect Hail Mary-style pass. With two players guarding him, Belov jumped, came down as the Americans lost position, then made an uncontested game-winning layup.
“Chaos ensued,” the Times reported in its game story. “Iba again rushed to the scorer’s table, [James] Forbes wept unabashedly, and photographers, newsmen and irate fans flooded onto the floor.”
The Americans protested but the jury was stacked against them in another Cold War timepiece: The vote was 3-2 with judges from Communist bloc nations Hungary, Poland and Cuba voting against the American appeal; those from Italy and Puerto Rico dissented.
“In one of the most bizarre events yet of the 20th Olympiad,” wrote The Washington Post’s William Gildea, “the United States apparently lost its first Olympic basketball game today after 63 victories even though the game appeared to have ended with the Americans ahead.” The game ended “with two premature U.S. victory outbursts, then a Soviet celebration.”
Questions about objectivity
The American players refused to accept their silver medals.
“It was the Cold War,” Edeshko, the Soviet player who made the game-winning pass, later said. “Americans, out of their own natural pride and love of country, didn’t want to lose and admit loss. They didn’t want to lose in anything, especially basketball.”
Soviet guard Sergei Belov, who led all scorers with 20 points, said in the HBO documentary “:03 From Gold” that the Americans “lacked courage,” and “couldn’t admit they were silver medalists.”
“The Americans have to learn how to lose, even when they think they are right,” said Jones, the FIBA chief.
But the Americans might have had reasons to doubt Jones’s objectivity.
“Jones was very antagonistic to the United States continuing to win,” McMillen said. “Jones and his compatriots were really trying to stop American hegemony in basketball. They were tired of America winning all the time.”
About two months before the gold medal game, a top Soviet sports official, Nikolai Beshkarev, paid a visit to Jones at his office in a Munich suburb, according to a 2012 Bloomberg story.
“The Soviets, like most federation members, bestowed gifts on Jones, who reigned over every aspect of international basketball, such as deciding who would referee, who was eligible to play, and even the rules of the game itself,” Bloomberg reported.
The story continued: “Jones, who’d rooted for the Soviets at an earlier Olympic championship game, remained a booster. Jones lauded the 1972 team’s ‘strong athletic mastery’ and its new coach’s ‘professional skills, intuition, and strategy,’ according to Beshkarev’s never before cited report to his bosses in Moscow, which Bloomberg News unearthed in a Russian government archive.”
Citing unpublished correspondence of Brundage, the longtime IOC president, Bloomberg reported that Jones feuded with some U.S. coaches and executives, who considered him a Communist sympathizer and a tyrant. Jones, who was the first international person inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, died in 1981.
Amateurism ends, but controversy remains
The United States regained the gold medal at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal with a victory over Yugoslavia.
The Americans and Soviets would not compete in the same Summer Olympics for another decade, following the U.S. boycott of the 1980 Olympics in Moscow and the Soviet boycott of the 1984 Olympics in LA. In 1988, the Soviets beat the U.S. again, this time in a semifinal, 82-76. As The Post reported, “there was no resetting of the clock twice in the...

Can Tho eyes investment from Dutch businesses in agricultural sector
Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Can Tho city Duong Tan Hien has called for investment from Dutch businesses in mechanisation in agricultural production; post-harvest preservation technology as well as processing technology of agricultural and aquatic products to create high value-added products.
He made the suggestion at a working session with a delegation from the Netherlands Embassy in Vietnam, led by Deputy Ambassador Christoph Prommersberger on September 7.
The official said that in addition to offering preferential policies for investors who pour capital into the centre for production, processing and consumption of agricultural products in the Mekong Delta, Can Tho city is also carrying out many supporting policies to attract investment in the agricultural sector, especially those relating to the development of value chains of agricultural and aquatic products.
Regarding to the establishment of a logistics centre for linkage, production, processing and consumption of agricultural products in the Mekong Delta, Hien said that the draft project has been submitted to the Prime Minister for approval. Once it is approved, local administration will publicise information on mass media.
For his part, the Dutch diplomat invited the municipal People’s Committee to arrange a working delegation to visit and learn about agricultural production and processing centres in the Netherlands to have a better view of this model.
He also suggested Dutch businesses and investors explore opportunities for cooperation and investment in Can Tho, especially in the agricultural sector.
Police urge Tan Hoang Minh fraud victims to speak up
The police have urged victims in the Tan Hoang Minh Group fraud case to give information and documents to help with the investigation.
Investors who bought bonds from three affiliates of Tan Hoang Minh Group — Viet Star Co.,Ltd, Hotel Soleil JSC, and Winter Palace JSC, are seen as victims, the police said in a notice on September 7.
The victims are requested to report to the police and send relevant documents to the economic crimes police department C03 at 47 Pham Van Dong Street, Cau Giay District, Hanoi, or contact them on 0793 688 688 or 055 993 3333.
Do Anh Dung, chairman of Tan Hoang Minh Group, allegedly took advantage of the three affiliates to launch nine bond issues with a total value of VND10.3 trillion between July 2021 and March 2022.
The money was not used for the purposes stated in the bond sale documents, said local news reports.
Regarding the method of raising capital from investors, the three affiliates of Tan Hoang Minh Group falsified the financial statements and bond security documents, according to the Ministry of Finance.
After that, Tan Hoang Minh Group bought the majority of the bonds issued by its affiliates and sold them to individual investors through business cooperation contracts.
The chairman of Tan Hoang Minh Group and six senior executives of Tan Hoang Minh-affiliated companies have been arrested on alleged charges of fraud.
Firms advised to apply effective dispute settlement resolutions
Vietnamese enterprises should study the use of different dispute resolutions to settle disputes with foreign partners more efficiently, especially as commercial disputes are tending to rise in line with Vietnam’s deeper integration in the global economy through free trade agreements (FTAs).
To date, Vietnam has signed 15 FTAs with many countries and regions, of which the UK-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA) was the latest put into force in May last year.
Nguyen Ngoc Son, standing member of the Science, Technology and Environment Committee of the National Assembly, said in the international business and investment environment, disputes are inevitable and Vietnamese businesses must comply with the “rules of the game” in the global market.
Transactions involving foreign partners are subject to different legal systems, commercial practices and business cultures which increases the risk of disputes. New business models and Industry 4.0 are leading to changes in dispute resolution methods (e-Courts, online adjudication…) and the scope of jurisdiction to resolve disputes.
Currently, there are four methods of trade dispute resolution, including negotiation, mediation, court or arbitration. Each has certain advantages and limitations, depending on the choice of the parties who have the need to resolve disputes.
According to the Vietnam International Arbitration Center (VIAC), the practice shows that the use of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) is a popular trend in the global business community given its effectiveness and efficiency.
ADR means any procedure, agreed to by the parties of a dispute, in which they use the services of a neutral party to assist them in reaching an agreement and avoiding litigation. They include arbitration, mediation, negotiated rulemaking, neutral factfinding and minitrials.
IMF optimistic about Vietnam’s economic growth
The first half of this year saw a swift economic rebound as Vietnam’s pandemic restrictions eased follow source ing the adoption of a living-with-COVID strategy and a robust vaccination drive, according to an article published on the website of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), imf.org.
Supportive policies such as low interest rates, strong credit growth, and the government’s Programme for Socio-economic Recovery and Development have been accompanied by strong manufacturing output and a recovery in retail and tourism activity, the article said.
The IMF has recently raised Vietnam growth forecast to 7% this year, lifting it by a full percentage point from three months earlier and the only significant upward revision among major Asian economies.
The fund lowered the projection for next year by 0.5 percentage points to 6.7%, but that still contrasts with dimming prospects elsewhere and would be the fastest pace among Asia’s major economies.
By way of contrast, growth estimates for Asia were lowered to 4.2% and 4.6% for this year and next in the IMF’s latest World Economic Outlook Update, the article noted.
Vietnam’s inflation pressure has been mostly limited to some goods like fuels and related services like transport. Consumers are largely insulated from the global surge in food prices because of ample domestic supplies, pork prices declining from last year’s peak, and a preference for rice, which remains cheaper than other grains like wheat. Further, price gains for services, such as health and education, have also been very mild.
Consumer prices in the first seven months of the year rose, but remain below the central bank’s 4% target for the year. The economy’s delayed recovery last year has kept core inflation, which strips out volatile food and energy costs, below regional peers.
Inflation, however, could pick up as economic activity gets back to full speed. Higher costs for transportation and commodi...

A matchup between Super Bowl champs and Super Bowl hopefuls kicks off the 2022 NFL season.
Matthew Stafford, Sean McVay and the Rams kick off their title defense on Thursday night, and we’ll get a very early litmus test as to how the Super Bowl hangover is going. After an offseason of a little bit of uncertainty surrounding the futures of McVay and Aaron Donald, the band is back together for another go of it in 2022.
The same litmus test can be used for Josh Allen and the Bills. Buffalo’s divisional round loss to the Chiefs quickly became the stuff of legend — and the impetus of change for the NFL’s overtime rules in 2022 and beyond.
But bygones are bygones and now there’s a new season, including one Super Bowl-winning defector heading from the West Coast to Western New York: Von Miller traded his Rams blue and gold for blue and red of the Bills (and a whole lot of green, too).

Bloomingdales Goes All-In On Metaverse With New Virtual Store TechCrunch
Bloomingdale’s Goes All-In On Metaverse With New Virtual Store – TechCrunch https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/bloomingdales-goes-all-in-on-metaverse-with-new-virtual-store-techcrunch/
Iconic department store Bloomingdale’s is celebrating its 150th anniversary with a new virtual store, designed by Emperia, that will go live during New York Fashion Week, which starts September 9.
Virtual department stores aren’t a new concept. You might recall eBay doing something similar in 2013, and individual brands more recently. In fact, the concept is something Bloomingdale’s has worked on for a while as it created a more robust relationship with its retailers and customers.
The department store’s chief marketing officer Frank Berman told TechCrunch via email that the company “experimented with virtual fashion shows and interactive windows” over the past 10 years, but that the 150th anniversary “gave us the opportunity to think bigger and put our customers front-and-center.”
“Working with Emperia, we were able to see the potential of creating an immersive, virtual shopping experience which was a natural progression of our legacy, including 360-degree views of exclusive luxury products, an interactive 40 Carrots frozen yogurt experience, Big Brown Drones and lots of fun surprises,” Berman said.
Bloomingdale’s virtual store will initially feature collections from brands like Polo Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs, David Yurman, MCM, Byredo and Baccarat. The possibilities the department store can offer in the future is “endless” and “not limited to physical space,” Berman said.
Meanwhile, the company creating a presence in the metaverse now is about leaning in on multi-generational customers and providing new experiences based on how differently each generation prefers to shop, Berman added.
“Virtual showrooms in the metaverse is the next phase of where the retail industry is going, and it provides an opportunity for customers to have an engaging, immersive experience that connects them to the brand and our store while also enabling us to see what users are most interested in through unique data insights,” he said. “In a way, moving into the metaverse is really just an extension of what Bloomingdale’s has been doing for 150 years.”

Sony Rolls Out 1440p Support For The PlayStation 5 In Latest Update – TechNave https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/sony-rolls-out-1440p-support-for-the-playstation-5-in-latest-update-technave/
Sony recently rolled out a new update for the PlayStation 5 (PS5) which allows gamers to play games at 1440p resolution. Announced via a blog post yesterday, the new update is now available globally after 1440p was first tested by the PS5 beta participants.
Of course, this is good news for those that play their PS5 on a 1440p monitor, though it is to be noted that users will lose Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) when playing in 1440p. Instead, they have to choose whether to play in 60Hz or 120Hz as VRR is only available in 1080p and 2160p modes.
Moreover, the update also brings a new “gamelists” feature which allows users to create up to 15 folder-like lists for their games. These include 100 items per list which could be discs, digital or streaming games.
Other notable new features brought forth by the update are an easier way to toggle between regular Stereo Audio and 3D Audio, In-progress Activities which show the last activity that users engaged in and a preview of YouTube search via voice commands. Do note that for the latter, it is only available for PS5 players registered in the United States and the United Kingdom.
Besides that, Sony also announced new features that are coming to the PS App on Android and iOS. Among these include PS Remote Play on your phone or tablet and a Share Screen session with your friends so you can watch them play. Pretty awesome stuff!
So, what do you guys think of these new updates coming to the PS5 and the PS App? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below and stay tuned to TechNave for more trending tech news such as this!

Report: Legal Experts Say Nigeria In Need Of ‘Clear-Cut Guidelines’ For Crypto Industry – Regulation Bitcoin News – Bitcoin News https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/report-legal-experts-say-nigeria-in-need-of-clear-cut-guidelines-for-crypto-industry-regulation-bitcoin-news-bitcoin-news/
Authorities in Nigeria have been told to consider upgrading the country’s cryptocurrency regulatory guidelines because current regulations are not consistent with the realities on the ground. According to legal experts, the growing interest in cryptocurrencies by Nigerians means the country needs to have “clear-cut guidelines” for the industry.
Nigerians Continue to Defy Central Bank
Legal experts who spoke at a two-day workshop recently held in Nigeria have urged authorities to consider upgrading the country’s cryptocurrency regulatory guidelines. The experts argued that such an upgrade is needed because Nigerians have largely ignored current regulations that seek to stifle trade or investment in crypto.
As recently reported by Bitcoin.com News, Nigerians are skirting the central bank’s restrictions on crypto trading or investment by using peer-to-peer trading platforms. For example, in just the first of half 2022, Nigerians using Paxful — a peer-to-peer crypto exchange — are reported to have done trades worth almost $400 million. In addition, a survey recently found that the West African country’s residents are the most interested in cryptocurrencies globally.
Meanwhile, in some of their remarks published by The Guardian, the legal experts added that Nigeria’s need for clear guidelines is further justified by the investment that is flowing into the industry. One of the experts, Roger Geisler, a special agent in the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, is quoted in the report giving an example of a risk that many crypto users face but one that can potentially be minimized by putting guidelines in place. He said:
Fraudulent wallets have been discovered on Google Play Store and are often cloned to look authentic. Once a person loads the wallet, the money is taken and the wallet is left empty.
Earning an Income From Digital Currencies
Another expert, David Awe, the head at Africa Fintech Foundry (AFF), outlined the challenges faced when attempting to establish a regulatory framework for blockchain smart contracts. However, the experts quoted in the report agree lawyers have a job of ensuring that smart contracts conform to the set criteria.
Ikechukwu Uwanna, the chairperson of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Lagos branch, said lawyers should look for ways of earning an income from the cryptocurrency industry.
“[Cryptocurrency is] the in thing today. Everyone is talking about it, but what is the legal regulatory framework? What are the security issues arising from digital assets? All of these are money income for lawyers,” Uwanna is quoted saying.

Deported Veterans Who Returned To US Face Uncertain Futures Roll Call
Deported Veterans Who Returned To US Face Uncertain Futures – Roll Call https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/deported-veterans-who-returned-to-us-face-uncertain-futures-roll-call/
Posted September 8, 2022 at 5:30am
Juan Quiroz, a father of four and U.S. Army veteran, got to celebrate his birthday in the U.S. with his children in July for the first time since he was deported nearly a decade ago.
The former Army mechanic is one of more than two dozen people to have the chance to come back to the U.S. as part of a recent Biden administration initiative to help deported veterans and their families.
But like many veterans returned under that effort, he is living under a temporary immigration status that expires after a year, and he faces limited options to regain his green card and become a citizen of the nation to which he’s already sworn allegiance.
“How are you going to tell my children that they can have their daddy back, but then you’re going to tear us apart again after a year?” Quiroz said. “It doesn’t make sense.”
Quiroz and others have returned to the U.S. under the initiative after being granted humanitarian parole, which gives foreign citizens permission to return to and live in the U.S. under the government’s discretion for set increments of time.
This allows veterans to reunite with their families, care for sick relatives and, for many elderly veterans, obtain medical care and Veterans Affairs benefits for which they qualify but cannot access outside the U.S.
Yet that status has no inherent path to citizenship and no guarantee it won’t be revoked or allowed to expire, immigration lawyers and advocates say. Congress has stalled on proposals to change that.
“To be honest, humanitarian parole is just like a Band-Aid on a bullet hole,” said James Smith, co-director of the Black Deported Veterans of America.
For Quiroz, that means uncertainty about his family’s future. His wife has suffered multiple brain aneurysms and is permanently disabled, and she needs help raising the couple’s three minor children, he said.
Available avenues
It’s been more than a year since the Biden administration announced its interagency initiative to help deported veterans access certain benefits, encourage eligible service members to apply for citizenship and bring back those who have already been deported.
Many of these deported vets were green card holders when they served but later in life were convicted of crimes that got them deported. Some were removed over drug-related offenses while battling addiction, which military veterans face at disproportionate rates because of post-traumatic stress disorder.
Once they are back, the avenues available to returning veterans to remain in the country permanently are narrow, immigration lawyers said.
Some deported veterans granted parole may be able to use their time in the country to attend a citizenship interview through a specialized naturalization process for current and former members of the military.
That process provides individuals who served in the U.S. military during designated periods of hostility — which includes anytime since the September 11 attacks, for example — a more direct path to citizenship that does not require a minimum number of years of residency.
But Department of Homeland Security regulations have imposed a requirement of “good moral character,” which can render some veterans with certain criminal convictions, including drug offenses, ineligible.
Others may be able to reopen their immigration court proceedings to have their green cards reinstated. But that process may require veterans to get their prior convictions vacated, or else show that immigration laws have changed in their favor since their deportation.
Uncertain time
And those living with humanitarian parole under the initiative don’t know how long their protections will last.
Not only does parole not lead to a green card, it can be revoked at any time or not renewed and allowed to expire. Since the program is a discretionary status, these veterans remain at the whims of whatever political administration is in power.
“Is this administration going to renew those parole periods?” said Amanda Schuft, an attorney with the Immigrant Defenders Law Center who represented deported veterans. “If a different president is elected, is the initiative going to be able to continue?”
Debra Rogers, director of the initiative at DHS, acknowledged the inherently temporary nature of the program while speaking at a House Judiciary Committee hearing in late June.
DHS “is doing everything in its power and within its discretion to make fair decisions for all of the veterans,” she told lawmakers. “But I do think, at the end of the day, that parole is a temporary status in the United States. It’s not a permanent solution for the challenges that we see with the veterans who have been removed.”
And the uncertainty of this status has left returned veterans with anxiety.
“Being deported is really traumatizing,” said Helen Boyer, an attorney with Public Counsel who represented deported veterans. “Having that weighing over people as like a potential thing that might happen again when their parole period expires is really, really scary and has a really negative mental health impact.”
‘A long way to go’
While advocates have praised the administration for implementing the initiative, it has so far been slow-moving.
It’s unknown exactly how many veterans have been deported. A 2019 study by the Government Accountability Office found that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Homeland Security agency that detains and deports immigrants, does not consistently track that information.
Administration officials told Congress at the June hearing that the government had, in the year since the initiative was announced, granted just 16 requests from veterans or their family members for humanitarian parole out of more than 60 received.
Eight requests had been denied, and 32 more were pending as of late June, the officials said. A DHS spokesperson didn’t respond to a request for updated figures, but Schuft, the Immigrant Defenders Law Center lawyer, said officials at a stakeholder call Tuesday said that 31 requests have been approved out of more than 80 received.
Bringing home those individuals “is amazing,” said Nayna Gupta, associate policy director at the National Immigrant Justice Center.
“But in comparison to the likely thousands of deported veterans, there’s a long way to go,” Gupta said.
Margaret Stock, a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve who practices immigration law, said as of late July she had yet to get a client successfully paroled into the country under the initiative. She said she has focused so far on people eligible for naturalization but has run into issues with interagency coordination and multiple layers of bureaucracy.
Smith, of the Black Deported Veterans of America, said that people whose requests are denied are not typically given a reason why. And though they are free to reapply, “if you don’t know why you were turned down, how do you adequately reapply?” he said.
Congressional action
Where the initiative is limited, Congress could step in to ease the process for deported veterans to regain permanent status.
In late July, the House Judiciary Committee advanced legislation to streamline the naturalization process for foreign-born veterans and ensure their status as veterans is considered if they find themselves in deportation proceedings.
But the bill, introduced by Rep. Mark Takano, D-Calif., chairman of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, did not garner a single Republican vote — previewing bleak odds even if it did make it to the more narrowly divided Senate.
To solve the problems related to deporting veterans long-term, Congress needs to act, said Robert Vivar, co-director of Unified U.S. Deported Veterans.
Vivar, whose son is currently serving in the military, was allowed to return to the U.S. this past November as a military family member, more than eight years after he was deported. He has since been able to reopen his immigration case and had his permanent residence reinstated.
The initiative is “working well to some degree,” he said in a recent video interview. But he stressed that the initiative has room to grow.
“It still needs a lot of work to really address the issue and the need to bring our deported veterans home,” he said. “But we understand, also, that to correct a lot of these issues, legislation is needed.”

Raphael Hospital Implements Oosto’s Vision AI Technology To Secure Sensitive Areas And Help Keep Operating Rooms Sterile – Business Wire https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/raphael-hospital-implements-oostos-vision-ai-technology-to-secure-sensitive-areas-and-help-keep-operating-rooms-sterile-business-wire/
NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–(Oosto.com) – Raphael Hospital, a top private hospital in Israel, has partnered with Oosto, the world’s leading vision AI company, to provide frictionless, face-based access control to sensitive areas within its state-of-the-art facility. Recently rebuilt from the ground up, Raphael Hospital is today world-renowned for its premium standard of patient-centered care.
Located in northern Tel Aviv, Israel, Raphael Hospital was built from the ground up to provide excellent medical patient care as well as the golden standard of hospitalization with the most cutting-edge technology. Raphael Hospital’s innovative approach to incorporating advanced technologies is evident throughout its modern facility. Specially equipped with advanced robotic-assisted surgery devices such as the Mako robotic arm and the Da Vinci robotic surgical system, the hospital’s operating theater was installed with Oosto’s facial recognition-based access control system from its earliest days. This has enabled Raphael staff with a touchless journey which helps support their own infection control protocols while keeping operating rooms restricted to authorized personnel at all times. This is critical since hospitals’ multiple access points heighten security risks and make them “soft targets,” which challenges security professionals to “harden” hospitals as part of a holistic security protocol.
“Authorized personnel simply go through the doors without having to use keys, cards, codes, or even slowing down,” said Raphael Cohen, Operating Rooms Manager. “We wanted to proactively remove the physical barriers that get in the way of caring for our patients as efficiently as possible while offering another layer of protection in the process. Oosto’s OnAccess allows us to do both.”
In addition to the convenience, health benefits, and speed associated with not having to physically open doors in operating areas, Oosto’s OnAccess system helps underscore the importance of the surgical staff’s user experience within the hospital system.
“Oosto’s facial recognition technology helps us define sensitive areas so if an unauthorized person enters this area, the security staff gets an alert in real-time,” said Ido Wodnizki, Chief Information Officer for Raphael Hospital. “OnAccess gives the team, doctors, and nurses a greater sense of belonging and connectedness to the hospital. They’re an essential part of the hospital, and when the hospital recognizes them, and the doors open – it’s effortless for them to get about.”
In recent years, there has been a significant increase in demand from hospitals around the world for biometrics-based, real-time image recognition systems.
“The entire healthcare system is evolving towards becoming more personalized and convenient. Advances in modern technology are allowing this to happen, to the benefit of the patient and the caregiver, both,” said Ofer Schmidt, Oosto’s Head of Sales for Southern Europe and Israel. “With health and well-being as the fundamental drivers of the healthcare industry, vision AI-based access control is a natural fit for hospitals in helping to mitigate health and safety risks throughout the hospital system. Oosto’s technology provides the customization, personalization, security, and efficiency in operations that are highly sought after by patient and hospital staff, alike.”
Israel offers one of the most advanced medical systems in the world and as a result, medical tourism is growing exponentially in the country. Israel’s Ministry of Health shows that more than 50,000 medical tourists travel to Israel for treatments every year and consistently ranks in the Top Ten in the globe for health tourist destinations.

Cholesterol: dark chocolate and other foods rich in antioxidants can help reduce cholesterol
In one of her recent posts, nutritionist Anjali Mukerjee discusses the impact of consuming dark chocolate on our cholesterol. She explains, “Dark chocolate is a good source of an antioxidant called catechins. There is also evidence that cocoa may help prevent the oxidation of blood cholesterol and decrease the tendency for blood clotting. However, it must still be consumed in moderation.”
She further explains, “Studies show that intake of Cocoa powder (in dark chocolate) helps reduce cholesterol due to the presence of polyphenols & flavonoids in cocoa. So, cocoa derivatives such as at least 70% dark chocolate contain a high amount of polyphenols, which are responsible for improved health by raising good cholesterol (HDL), lowering blood pressure & blood sugar levels & reducing the risk of heart disease. Please note that using Cacao powder is better than using cocoa powder as it is richer in Polyphenols.”
She later suggests the best way to consume dark chocolate. She writes, “The best ways to add Chocolate to your diet are: Blend 2 tbsp of Raw Cacao powder into one cup of almond milk. Add 2tbsp of coconut cream & some stevia or monk fruit as per your taste. You may also choose jaggery or honey (if you are not diabetic) Enjoy this Cacao powder Blend every other day or twice a week to benefit from its heart-protecting properties.”
She ends by mentioning, “Cacao powder or Cacao nibs are commonly available these days.”
According to a meta-analysis that was published in 2011 in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, eating dark chocolate reduces low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and total cholesterol levels over the course of a short period of time. Data from 10 clinical trials in which 320 participants consumed dark chocolate for 2 to 12 weeks were examined by researchers.
In individuals with type 2 diabetes, eating chocolate with a high cocoa polyphenol content is helpful at raising HDL levels, according to a 2010 study that was published in the journal Diabetic Medicine.
In this small 12-person trial, researchers advised consuming 45 grams of chocolate daily for 8 weeks. Participants were split evenly between the high-cocoa chocolate that is rich in polyphenols and regular high-cocoa chocolate.
Results indicate that the low polyphenol chocolate had no effect. The HDL and total cholesterol levels were both significantly higher in the high polyphenol group.
More than 300 naturally occurring compounds can be found in chocolate. Caffeine, sugar, and cocoa are among the most popular. Flavonoids are one of the less well-known substances found in chocolate. Red wine contains flavonoids, which have been shown to reduce LDL cholesterol levels and protect against coronary heart disease.
In addition, stearic acid makes up one-third of the chocolate’s fat composition. Despite being a saturated fat, stearic acid does not seem to increase cholesterol levels and, in accordance with a 2005 review, may even lower them.
Here is Nutritionist Mukerjee’s Post:
Make sure to incorporate dark chocolate and other LDL-lowering foods into your diet if you wish to reduce your cholesterol.

Microsoft is rolling out an Xbox update that includes some cool console and cloud gaming features. For instance, there’s a new way to hop into a game. When a friend shares a screenshot or game clip, you’ll be able to tap the play button on a computer or mobile device and start up the game in a browser.
So, if you’re on your phone and see a cool clip that your friend posted, you can start playing the game just by tapping the button. This is a cloud gaming function, so you’ll need an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership to use this feature.
Xbox’s version of the feature doesn’t seem as advanced as Stadia’s State Share, which allows you to join a game at the same point as someone else and experience a world exactly as they left it just by clicking a link. It is still neat, though.
Another feature available on Xbox Series X/S starting today: Is noise suppression for party chats. Microsoft says that it can keep unwanted sounds like controller clicks, your breathing, and background noise out of the ears of others. That’s great news for anyone who uses party chats and is irritated by this.

Federal agencies have in recent months seen a less pressing need to publish planned interagency guidance on how banks should treat digital assets, Michael Hsu, acting comptroller of the currency, said 7 September at a banking industry conference in New York.

Carlos Alcaraz Outlasts Jannik Sinner In Epic 5-Setter To Make US Open Semifinals – ESPN https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/carlos-alcaraz-outlasts-jannik-sinner-in-epic-5-setter-to-make-us-open-semifinals-espn/
3:05 AM ET
Associated Press
NEW YORK — This was a match that would not end. Should not end, one might say.
Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, two of the brightest young stars of men’s tennis, traded shots of the highest quality and countless momentum swings across five sterling sets for 5 hours, 15 minutes until Alcaraz finally won the last point at 2:50 a.m. Thursday, the latest finish in US Open history.
It was “only” a quarterfinal, no trophy at stake, yet was as taut a thriller as this tournament has produced or, likely, will, a tour de force of big cuts on the full sprint and plenty of guts, a 6-3, 6-7 (7), 6-7 (0), 7-5, 6-3 victory for the No. 3-seeded Alcaraz, a 19-year-old from Spain.
“Honestly,” said Alcaraz, who saved a match point in the fourth set, “I still don’t know how I did it.”
He reached his first Grand Slam semifinal and is the youngest man to get that far at the US Open since Pete Sampras won the title at 19 in 1990. Alcaraz, who has a chance to move up to No. 1 in the rankings next week, will face No. 22 Frances Tiafoe of the United States on Friday.
This match began Wednesday about 9:45 p.m. and easily surpassed the previous mark for latest time of finish at the US Open, which had been 2:26 a.m., shared by three matches.
After his much more mundane, three-set victory over Andrey Rublev in a quarterfinal that ended at about 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Tiafoe was rather prescient when asked about Alcaraz and Sinner.
“I just hope they play a marathon match, super-long match,” Tiafoe said with a smile, “and they get really tired come Friday.”
The clock already was past 2 a.m. when Coco Gauff, the 18-year-old American who was the runner-up at the French Open and bowed out in the US Open quarterfinals on Tuesday, spoke for anyone paying attention to Alcaraz vs. Sinner when she tweeted: “this match is insane. I leave at 6am for the airport but I refuse to sleep and miss this. #Sinner #Alcaraz”
Still, even with thousands and thousands of empty seats, there were enough who remained on hand to make as much noise as a full house at times. Both players would wave their rackets or motion with their arms to encourage the fans to get even louder. And naturally, the fans would oblige.
It was as back-and-forth as could be.
After taking the first set, Alcaraz held five set points in the second — but Sinner saved them all.
In the third, Alcaraz broke to lead 6-5 and served for that set — but Sinner broke to force a tiebreaker that he dominated.
In the fourth, it was Sinner who served for the victory at 5-4, even holding a match point — but Alcaraz broke there and wound up pushing what already was a masterpiece to a fifth.
And in the fifth, Alcaraz pushed through, dropping to his back when it ended, his chest heaving, and covered his face with his hand.

Former El Paso Congressman Beto O’Rourke’s run for Texas governor included a stop in Denton Wednesday, the final week of a 49-city road trip across the Lone Star State.
The Democrat visited North Texas as a new poll by the University of Houston and Texas Southern University showed Republican Gov. Greg Abbott up 7%. That has been a pretty consistent number through recent polling, and we asked O’Rourke about that.
“I think seeing what has happened in New York and Alaska, in Kansas, the extraordinary level of turnout against extremism in those states regardless of what the polls said prior to those elections,” O’Rourke said. “Voters — Democrats, independents and Republicans — are standing up against extremism and for candidates who will protect a woman’s right to choose.”
Abortion has now become a main issue in midterm elections. In an interview on Lone Star Politics last week, Abbott said O’Rourke fought against a bill protecting newborns.

“He not only believes in abortion until the very last minute before a fully developed child is given birth, but he was even against a law that would require a doctor to give medical care to a baby that survived abortion,” said Abbott.
The bill, which was introduced in the U.S. House in 2015, would have required doctors to perform lifesaving care on a newborn that survived an abortion.
“I want to make sure as I did in Congress, as I will as governor, that decisions women that make are left to the very women themselves in consultation with their doctors,” O’Rourke said.

During questions with reporters following the rally in Denton, O’Rourke was clear about his position on abortion. He says he supports the standards set by Roe v. Wade.

“That has been the law of the land won by Texas women 49 years ago. It is one that has worked across this country and in Texas until this attack on women’s reproductive freedom under Governor Greg Abbott,” O’Rourke said.
The two will meet later this month in Edinburg Texas, for a statewide debate.
