Ansel Elgort Shares Photos From His Italian Vacation With Shailene Woodley: ‘The Season For Loving’ – PEOPLE https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/ansel-elgort-shares-photos-from-his-italian-vacation-with-shailene-woodley-the-season-for-loving-people/ The longtime friends and onscreen costars also recreated the iconic Dirty Dancing lift during their trip Published on September 7, 2022 09:43 PM Ansel Elgort and Shailene Woodley are enjoying their summer adventure together overseas! On Wednesday, Elgort, 28, shared a carousel of images on Instagram from his tour in Italy featuring his longtime friend and costar from 2014’s Fault in Our Stars. “It’s the time of the season for loooovvingg ,” he captioned the Instagram post. One snap shows Elgort and Woodley, 30, cuddling up to each other while smiling for the camera as the two hung out in a restaurant. Another photo features the actor standing below a sign that reads Modena — a name of a city in Italy — at a local train station. The last slide in the post includes a snapshot of Woodley sitting across the table while staring into the camera as her champagne is poured. However, it seems at some points during the vacation things got a little wild. In one of the snaps, Elgort poses naked by a pool with just a towel to cover his private parts. During their reunion in Italy, the pair also reenacted the famous lift from the 1987 film Dirty Dancing. Sharing the end result on his Instagram Tuesday, Elgort wrote in the caption, “Clean dancing w Shai .” Woodley also shared some behind-the-scenes clips via her Instagram Story showing the duo practicing their moves to recreate Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey‘s iconic moment from the movie. In the 2014’s romantic movie, Woodley and Elgort played teens with cancer who fall in love and embark on an adventure in Europe. The two also starred together in the Divergent series, playing a brother and sister in a dystopian society. Woodley previously opened up about how their longtime friendship helped their on-screen chemistry in The Fault in Our Stars. Deadline Extended For Cardiff Business Awards Nominations – Business News Wales https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/deadline-extended-for-cardiff-business-awards-nominations-business-news-wales/ Cardiff-based businesses have an extra week to submit their entries into the highly anticipated Cardiff Business Awards. Businesses in all sectors are being encouraged to enter the 8th Cardiff Business awards before the nominations deadline closes on Friday 16th September 22. The prestigious Cardiff Business Awards were launched in 2015 to celebrate those businesses in Cardiff making a difference and championing the City. Businesses and individuals in Cardiff can submit their entries across 17 categories, with those shortlisted invited to attend the awards ceremony at Cardiff City Hall on November 11th. On the call for nominations, founder of the awards Liz Brookes said: “Knowing how busy September is for people after the summer holidays, we’ve decided to extend the deadline by one week.  We are delighted with the number and calibre of organisations which have entered so far, but we don’t want anyone to miss out. “If you want to nominate, you’ve got just one week to get in touch and ensure the business of your choice is recognised among the most progressive organisations in Cardiff. “So if you know of anyone making a real difference, it’s time to get your entries in.” The Cardiff Business Awards, organised by Grapevine Event Management is being supported by headline sponsors Euroclad and Business News Wales as its media partner. Jo Polson, Director of Vindico, who are one of this years sponsors and a previous winner of the awards said; “The Cardiff Business Awards gave amazing recognition to the partnerships, projects, and client collaborations we’ve been part of. It also helped us raise the profile of the exciting work we had in the pipeline following our win, too. We’re now paying it forward by sponsoring the Innovation Business of the Year category for 2022. “We’ve never seen so much innovation and talent coming out of Wales. We’re just not very good at telling the world about it. “My hope is that by shining a light on the category we can support fellow Welsh innovators and encourage more change here in Wales. I see no reason why Wales cannot be the next innovation powerhouse of the UK – and beyond – we just need to get better at shouting about it!” Also sponsoring the awards this year is Landsec, the owners of St Davids Shopping centre who join Cardiff Metropolitan University, Charles Stanley Wealth Management, Cardiff Council, EY Incentives, Genesis Biosciences, Living Wage Cardiff, Visit Cardiff, United Worldwide Logistics, Lexon and Stills. The deadline for entries into the Cardiff Business Awards will close on 16th September 2022. For more information visit https://cardiffbusinessawards.com/

Matrix Bullet-Time Creator John Gaeta Takes On The Metaverse Fast Company
‘Matrix’ Bullet-Time Creator John Gaeta Takes On The Metaverse – Fast Company https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/matrix-bullet-time-creator-john-gaeta-takes-on-the-metaverse-fast-company/ John Gaeta has already made his mark on pop culture once. As the visual effects supervisor on The Matrix, he’s the person who created bullet time and many of that film’s other groundbreaking visuals. These days, though, he’s focused on the metaverse—and he’s hoping to make an even bigger impact. Gaeta began transitioning away from the film world in 2008 or 2009. Like many pioneers in visual effects who explored game development and found themselves in the lab scene of Silicon Valley, he enjoys working on emerging technologies. Gaeta says he’s a storyteller at heart, though, not a technical person. And earlier this year, he joined InWorld AI as Chief Creative Officer to help the company achieve its vision of bringing artificial intelligence to virtual worlds. InWorld, founded in July 2021, wants to make static characters more lifelike. So, for instance, when you interact with a non-player character in a game, it won’t be limited to just three or four lines of looping dialogue. Instead, using advanced AI, those characters would have unique personalities, with their own thoughts, memories, and behaviors. Investors are backing the concept. Last month, InWorld closed on a Series A round of $50 million, led by Section 32 and Intel Capital, with additional investments from Founders Fund, Microsoft’s M12 fund, and Kleiner Perkins, among others. That brought its total funding to $70 million. “It’s not a Turing test,” Gaeta tells Fast Company. “It’s a character test. Is this character able to surprise me? Can it make me excited? Can it tell me something I didn’t know? Can it point me in a direction that leads to the furthering of an experience? In a story rich world, success is anybody you talk to could be interesting enough to hold your attention as long as you like, and you could come back to [them] day after day.” For now, of course, those sorts of interactions are more likely to happen in the video game world, but they have broader potential, Gaeta says, as the metaverse begins to take shape. “No one can predict, at the beginning, how people will use new forms,” he says. “Some people assume the metaverse is something they saw in a movie or read in a book, but in my opinion, it’s the connection between all digital things that are able to find one another. The spatial internet is going to be like games, but it’s not only going to be 3D things; it’s going to be awareness of the real world–all the smart city stuff will be part of the metaverse. All of the autonomous things we’re making for vehicles and devices and all of these things we’re building around us as we move into the future. All of those things could talk to each other and contribute to something we might default call the metaverse.” Additionally, he says, virtual reality and mixed reality will be fused together. And he sees a great opportunity to create a decentralized platform where creatives can thrive. Creators, he says, will have huge opportunities to create something of high value or that others enjoy and will ideally be able to monetize that without having to depend on a large corporate presence or a bank, as is the model now for many film and game makers. “I absolutely believe the everyday person, be they a confident creative or just some kid, should be empowered to create and own and propagate the things they make,” says Gaeta. “I think we’re in a potentially highly disruptive time where some companies—and some tech—are enabling the ability [for people] to create and prosper from their creations. I think characters and avatars are kind of the same. They’re identities. They’re personas. And they could become very attractive and popular to others, just like personalities and actors in the real world.” Many of those scenarios lie in the future, though. For now, Gaeta says, the metaverse is nothing like what most people expect it to become. And that, in some ways, is what makes the potential of the metaverse so exciting. “There’s a lot of early experimentation, but it’s not mainstream yet,” he says. “It’s a time of learning. And during this time, as it’s really still a moment of early adopter/frontier-like people who want to check this stuff out. The question is: What do you expect from a virtual world or destination? Of course, regardless of the use case, you don’t want it to essentially be a handful of frontier-like/early adopter users.” Worlds, he says, have to be vibrant and full of life. And that’s what he’s trying to do at InWorld. “I’ve been thinking about this for years,” he says. “The answer [to making worlds feel real] is to bring in characters who are capable of understanding this world and their place in it and the relationships between everyone else in there, be they human or non-human—basically, to populate worlds with thinking characters.”

Crypto Prices In September Historically Always Tough, So Things Can Only Get Better – Business 2 Community https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/crypto-prices-in-september-historically-always-tough-so-things-can-only-get-better-business-2-community/ The crypto market is not immune to the volatility of the global economy. The prices of cryptocurrencies are closely tied to what’s happening in the stock markets, and September is a bad month for crypto prices. People are often confused about why this is the case. It’s not just because of some arbitrary date chosen by someone who doesn’t know anything about finance. There are a few reasons why September is a bad month for crypto prices, and they have to do with some major events that happened in September. September Crypto Price History September, the ninth month of the year, has historically been one of the worst for the leading cryptocurrency. According to Bespoke Investment Group, Bitcoin has typically dropped by 8.5% per month during the previous five years. Bitcoin (BTC), which has had its worst month since 2013, may fall even further in September. Given how well cryptocurrency prices have performed so far in 2022, a drop this month would not be surprising. It includes, among other things, bitcoin and ether values. Furthermore, the value of ether has fallen by approximately 56% this year, while the value of bitcoin has fallen by approximately 58%. According to Bespoke Investment Group experts, September has historically been a terrible month for Bitcoin and Ethereum, so seasonality is not in the asset class’s favor. What Causes September Effect The impact of September is not limited to the cryptocurrency market. Since 1928, the S&P 500 has mainly declined in September, dropping 1.1% on average. According to experts, the S&P and cryptocurrency prices have mostly aligned; as a result, another drop in the BTC price this month will not come as a complete surprise. As a result, investors’ actions are to blame for the September market downturn. According to Elena Dure, many investors sell their market holdings in September to lock in profits or even tax losses as the year closes. Furthermore, the rate of asset liquidation has increased due to the immediate need for funds to cover school expenses as the new school year begins in September. Most people believe the September effect is an excellent example of market psychology when many investors sell their coins because they believe the market will turn bearish that month. As a result, prices fell due to this sell-off, bolstering the September effect even more. The Situation Can Only Get Better Despite several theories on the origin of the September effect, there is no agreement on its cause. Contrary to popular belief, the cryptocurrency market has occasionally increased throughout September. According to experts, the impact has waned recently, and the cause of crypto losses concerns Federal Reserve rate hikes. Everyone hopes it will peak, but inflation continues to rise gradually as we approach the fourth quarter of 2022. It fell from 9.1% in July to 8.5% in August, making investors optimistic about the FED’s anti-inflationary measures. According to experts, investors have recently reduced their risk exposure due to Federal Reserve interest rate increases. Investors are waiting for the central bank’s next move as the September policy meeting approaches. The “Merge,” an upgrade to the Ethereum blockchain, is also a significant event that will take place soon in the cryptocurrency industry. As the Merge approaches, the price of ether may fluctuate, but some analysts believe it will eventually result in higher prices. Furthermore, just because September typically sees a drop in cryptocurrency values does not mean that trend will continue this year. However, past performance is never a guarantee of future performance in investing. U.S. Gasoline Prices To Keep Falling As Refiners Keep Making Other Products – Reuters https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/u-s-gasoline-prices-to-keep-falling-as-refiners-keep-making-other-products-reuters/ A person puts gas in a vehicle at a gas station in Manhattan, New York City, U.S., August 11, 2022. REUTERS/Andrew Kelly/File Photo Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com Sept 8 (Reuters) – Wholesale gasoline prices are expected to keep falling in coming months as U.S. refiners overproduce fuel to try to rebuild low stocks of diesel and heating oil, according to analysts and traders. U.S. inventories of distillate products, which also include jet fuel, are at the lowest levels in more than a decade. Margins to make those products have remained high due to heavy demand from Europe and elsewhere, and a dearth of refining capacity to meet that demand. Gasoline demand has also been high, but is waning now that the U.S. driving season is coming to a close. U.S. independent refiners indicated earlier this year that they would continue to run at high rates even if gasoline demand dropped in order to replenish low middle distillate inventories. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com Middle distillate inventories held by industry in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development totaled 483.6 million barrels in June, down 2.5% from February, according to data from the International Energy Agency. U.S. gasoline inventories are roughly in line with five-year averages, but are expected to rise because refiners can only shift their processing mix by so much. The gasoline crack spread – the margins made from producing gasoline – fell to $14.59 on Wednesday, lowest since February, and down from a high of $61.95 reached in early June. Gasoline is historically more profitable to produce, but heating oil margins have spiked because of a global shortage of distillate fuels. That spread is currently at $63.20, near a record high reached earlier this summer. “Refiners don’t want to make gasoline right now but they’re forced to make gasoline along with diesel, so they’re over-producing gasoline,” said John Auers, a refining consultant. Refiners are currently running at nearly 93% capacity, in line with the five-year average, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. A barrel of oil produces roughly twice as much gasoline as diesel. Demand for U.S. gasoline has faltered by 4.4% so far this year, RBC estimates. The retail gasoline price is currently $3.764, down 11 weeks in a row from an historic peak of $5.02 per gallon, according to the American Automotive Association. Europe may not be able to keep producing enough distillates because those products need natural gas for processing, which the continent largely sources from Russia. Moscow has cut off much of its exports of gas to Europe. Refiners that sell fuel into the Atlantic Basin will be incentivized to continue producing distillate to make up for the lack of refining activity in Europe, Auers said.
