Greshams Healthy Lifestyle Hub Prepares To Open Chicago Sun-Times
Gresham’s Healthy Lifestyle Hub Prepares To Open – Chicago Sun-Times https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/greshams-healthy-lifestyle-hub-prepares-to-open-chicago-sun-times/ Vacant for 25 years, a former furniture store in Auburn Gresham will soon be open for business as a community health and education center. Developers hope that besides being home to myriad businesses focused on health and prosperity, the four-story building also will become a beacon of community, a space where everyone is welcome to spend time in while taking advantage of free Wi-Fi, dining and catching up with friends. The four-story, 60,000 square-foot building at 839 W. 79th St., built in 1925, still sports its original terra-cotta exterior trim. “It’s very prominent in the neighborhood,” said Carlos Nelson, CEO of the Greater Auburn Gresham Development Corporation. “Unfortunately, 25 years of a hulking building like that being vacant is not a good thing.” Ribbon-cutting for the Gresham Healthy Lifestyle Hub is Friday, with a grand-opening ceremony, open to the public, scheduled for Nov. 11. The project got a huge boost when the development corporation received $10 million for winning the inaugural Pritzker Traubert Foundation’s Chicago Prize in 2020. The development corporation’s winning initiative included not just the rehab of the building, but also its plans for an urban farm and renewable energy center. The $12.4 million Hub also received some financial backing from the city’s Invest South/West initiative. Carlos Nelson, CEO of the Greater Auburn Gresham Development Corporation, shown in June 2020 at an announcement that the city’s Invest South/West program would help fund the group’s Healthy Lifestyle Hub initiative. Ashlee Rezin/Sun-Times Nelson said his group was motivated in part by seeing several businesses in the area close in recent years. Among them: Save A Lot, Aldi, CVS and a Bank of America branch — though plans are in the works to reopen the Save A Lot under new ownership. The Hub sits across from the vacant Save A Lot and CVS locations, and Nelson wants it to bring back some of what the community lost when businesses moved away. The development corporation bought the building five years ago, with the goal of filling those gaps and others, starting with a federally qualified health center. The Hub will have that, and more. It will be anchored by a medical facility, operated by University of Illinois Health, providing primary and immediate care, as well as dental care and mental health treatment. But it won’t just be health care. The Hub will bring a Bank of America branch back to the area, along with a Chicago Bears Teaching Kitchen, an office for the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring group, a pharmacy and a third Chicago location of Mikkey’s Retro Grill. The UI Health location is much needed in the neighborhood, said Camellio Lincoln, senior project manager of the Hub. According to Lincoln, there is a gap in available preventative and immediate care in the area. The University of Illinois Health Mile Square Health Center will provide immediate and primary care services at the Auburn Gresham Healthy Lifestyle Hub. Pat Nabong/Sun-Times “Currently, education about immediate and urgent care is not really out there,” Lincoln said. “So people are still going to the emergency rooms, which is very expensive.” Added Nelson: “We have not had access to high quality health care in this community in generations.” The Hub will bring over 150 living wage jobs to the area, and all Hub tenants are dedicated to hiring Black and Brown people, Lincoln said, part of the project’s goal of helping to “build a wealth generation” for the community, Nelson said. Heartland Alliance also will have a branch office in the Hub. The organization aims to help people out of poverty through jobs, housing and family services. The Auburn Gresham Healthy Lifestyle Hub, anchored by a UI Health Center, will have an array of other businesses. Pat Nabong/Sun-Times A University of Illinois Chicago neighborhood center also will have space in the building and will do a number of community outreach programs, Lincoln said. It also will provide a pro-bono legal clinic based in the center to help residents handle legal issues and also educate them on their rights. An additional gift from the Chicago Bears made the teaching kitchen, along with a community room, where nutritional training and cooking classes can be held. The first floor of the building also will have a common space where anyone can hang out and enjoy air conditioning or heat, Lincoln said. Even before the Hub opens, Nelson is thinking about what’s next for the rest of the neighborhood. Among his ideas: a food pantry; a therapy center for seniors, an incubator space for budding entrepreneurs and a shuttle service — all occupying the vacant spaces around the area. “Right on 79th in the middle of the despair and the disinvestment that was for 50 years, we knew that it would catalyze other development,” Nelson said. The hope, he added, is “that the development would be done by us, for us.”

UCF Vs. SMU Odds Line Spread: 2022 College Football Picks Predictions From Proven Computer Model CBS Sports
UCF Vs. SMU Odds, Line, Spread: 2022 College Football Picks, Predictions From Proven Computer Model – CBS Sports https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/ucf-vs-smu-odds-line-spread-2022-college-football-picks-predictions-from-proven-computer-model-cbs-sports/ SMU has lost its last two football games, but those losses to Maryland and TCU don’t look quite as bad after seeing how strong the Terrapins and Horned Frogs have been this season. The Mustangs look to get back in the win column on Wednesday against UCF in a game that has already been rescheduled multiple times due to concerns over Hurricane Ian. The Knights have won each of their last two games, but those victories have come against an FAU team that has fallen off a cliff and a Georgia Tech program that fired its head coach this season. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET. The Knights are 3-point home favorites in the latest SMU vs. UCF odds listed on Caesars Sportsbook, and the over/under is set for 64.5 points. Before making any UCF vs. SMU picks, be sure to see the college football predictions and betting advice from SportsLine’s proven computer model. The SportsLine Projection Model simulates every FBS college football game 10,000 times. Over the past six-plus years, the proprietary computer model has generated a stunning profit of more than $3,100 for $100 players on its top-rated college football picks against the spread. Anyone who has followed it has seen huge returns. Now, the model has set its sights on UCF vs. SMU. You can head to SportsLine to see its picks. Here are several college football odds for SMU vs. UCF: UCF vs. SMU spread: UCF -3 UCF vs. SMU over/under: 64.5 points UCF vs. SMU picks: See picks here What you need to know about UCF Even though Sonny Dykes is no longer the head coach at SMU, the Mustangs continue to have one of the most prolific passing offenses in college football, averaging 353 passing yards per game. Meanwhile, the Knights have been one of the more dominant pass defenses and have held opponents to just 169.8 yards per contest. The Mustangs could also find themselves in trouble against UCF’s rushing attack, which averages 275.5 yards per game. SMU ranks outside of the top 100 programs in the nation at stopping the run, and has allowed 180.5 yards per game. UCF quarterback John Rhys Plumlee is also the team’s leading rusher with 404 yards and four touchdowns this season. Plumlee is joined in the backfield by running backs Isaiah Bowser and Johnny Richardson, who have a combined 446 rushing yards on the season. What you need to know about SMU Meanwhile, the Mustangs came up short against the TCU Horned Frogs two weeks ago in a 42-34 final. SMU’s defeat shouldn’t overshadow the performances of running back Tre Siggers, who punched in three rushing touchdowns, and receiver Jake Bailey, who caught eight passes for one TD and 163 yards. This is a contrast of offensive styles as UCF ranks third nationally in rushing yardage with 274.5 per game. SMU, meanwhile, has the fifth-most passing yards per game in the nation with an average of 353.  How to make UCF vs. SMU picks The model has simulated UCF vs. SMU 10,000 times and the results are in. The model is leaning Over on the total, and it’s also generated a point-spread pick that is hitting in well over 50% of simulations. You can only see the pick at SportsLine. Who will win SMU vs. UCF? JPEGs Are Not The Future Of Web3 And NFTs: Polygon Studios Metaverse Lead Decrypt
JPEGs Are ‘Not The Future Of Web3 And NFTs’: Polygon Studios Metaverse Lead – Decrypt https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/jpegs-are-not-the-future-of-web3-and-nfts-polygon-studios-metaverse-lead-decrypt/ In brief Brian Trunzo, Polygon Studios’ metaverse lead, spoke with Decrypt at Chainlink SmartCon 2022. He discussed future use cases for NFTs and Web3 technology, including how they’ll gain acceptance from gamers. In the early years of the NFT space thus far, it’s been profile pictures and artwork that have yielded top-dollar sales and consistently dominated headlines. But as the market evolves and the immersive future internet of the metaverse takes shape, will tokenized images continue to be the most prominent use case for NFTs? Brian Trunzo, metaverse lead at Polygon Studios, doesn’t think so. In an interview at the Chainlink SmartCon 2022 conference, he told Decrypt’s Dan Roberts and Stacy Elliott that the crypto industry will have achieved mainstream adoption of Web3 technology, NFTs, and the metaverse when “we stop saying it”—when those terms are no longer necessary. Trunzo believes that skeptics of the technology are informed by a limited understanding of Web3 and suggests that a wider set of NFT use cases will take hold in the future. “It’s because their understanding of it is that which the mainstream media reports to be right-click-save JPEGs, an investable asset class—which is not the future of Web3 and NFTs, in my mind,” he explained. An NFT is a blockchain token that can serve as a proof of ownership for an item. It can represent digital things like profile pictures, artwork, and collectibles, but also interactive video game items, customer engagement rewards, real estate deeds, and more. Polygon Studios works with creators and companies that are building on Polygon, a sidechain scaling network for Ethereum, the leading blockchain for NFTs and decentralized apps. In his role as metaverse lead, Trunzo and his team help pave the way for technology to support immersive applications and NFT-powered experiences from various creators. He pointed to Starbucks’ recent NFT announcement as an example of how he sees the assets being used as a technology layer rather than an asset class itself. Starbucks will use Polygon to give away NFT stamps to customers, as well as sell premium NFTs, all of which can earn customers real-world perks and experiences. “If Web2 was measured in engagement, [then] Web3 will be measured in gamification—brand immersion,” he explained. In the case of Starbucks, it won’t be a game-like 3D metaverse akin to Decentraland or The Sandbox, but the NFT-powered program is designed to engage users across digital and physical spaces alike. That sort of Web3 gamification is one of the biggest opportunities he sees in the space, along with digital fashion. Trunzo, who previously co-founded real-world menswear brands, said that metaverse fashion will tap into users’ need not only for self-expression, but also vanity and a desire to showcase virtual “flexes.” And when it comes to true video game experiences, Trunzo is unsurprisingly on the side of the debate that sees NFTs as a prospective benefit. Many gamers aren’t thrilled about NFTs, in part because of scams and speculation but also a widespread belief that creators and publishers will use them to extract even more value from players. Even with that stigma out there, Trunzo expects a “genie out of the bottle moment” in which more and more players embrace the benefits of using NFTs in games. In his view, the ability for players to truly own their progress and unlocked benefits as NFT assets—which can then be sold or perhaps even across in other games—will be a real plus. But he doesn’t expect that all future video games will use NFTs when that happens. Some games may live entirely on-chain, some may not see a need for NFTs, and others could land somewhere in between with modest or limited Web3 functionality. “We’re not trying to cram it down people’s throats that you have to incorporate NFTs into your game,” Trunzo said. In the meantime, some early metaverse games have been criticized for underwhelming graphics compared to the traditional game industry’s top titles. Trunzo acknowledged that Web3 gaming is early, but also said that games don’t necessarily need hyper-realistic graphics to look beautiful and stand the test of time. Trunzo pointed to “timeless IP” like popular Nintendo games, including 2002’s GameCube favorite The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker—a title that bucked trends by adopting a cel-shaded cartoonish look rather than hyper-realistic design. Twenty years later, it’s arguably held up better than many games from that era. “You play it today and it’s gorgeous,” he said. Will the same be said for Decentraland, for example, in 20 years? Trunzo believes that Web3 games will ultimately come in all shapes and sizes—with some adopting higher-end graphics and others opting for simpler or lo-fi aesthetics. “I think there will be something for everyone,” he said. His experience includes research and analysis of individual cryptocurrencies, defi protocols, and crypto-based funds. He owns BTC, ETH, UNI, DOT, MATIC, and AVAX Bitcoin and ether prices flattened in Wednesday trading as investors weighed the latest jobs data suggesting the economy isn’t finished growing. Bitcoin’s (BTC) price slumped a fraction of a percentage point on Wednesday but climbed back above the $20,000 level after slumping below earlier in the day. BTC had declined overnight and accelerated for several hours, with the sharpest decline occurring during the 13:00 UTC hour (9:00 a.m. ET), as U.S. traditional markets opened and ADP’s Employment report on job creation in the private sector arrived hotter than expected. BTC volume during the downturn exceeded its average volume during that time frame by 5 times. Ether’s (ETH) price’s also declined, as the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization fell 0.95%, erasing a portion of its gains from the prior two days. ETH’s biggest drop occurred during the 13:00 UTC (9:00 a.m. ET) timeframe. ETH prices are down 19% since the Merge, the Ethereum network’s conversion from a proof-of-work consensus mechanism to a proof-of-stake system on Sept. 15. The CoinDesk Market Index (CMI), a broad-based market index that measures the performance of a basket of cryptocurrencies, recently declined by 0.32%. U.S. Equities: Traditional stocks declined following strong labor data, as the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA), tech-heavy Nasdaq composite and S&P 500 fell 0.14%, 0.25% and 0.20%, respectively. OPEC (the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries) announced a 2 million barrel per day cut in oil production. In the U.S., crude oil inventories dropped by 1.36 million barrels versus expectations for a 2.1 million barrel increase for the week ending Sept 30. Gasoline inventories fell by 4.7 million barrels, significantly more than the expected 1.3 million barrel decrease, and the largest decline in eight weeks. Both developments will likely send energy prices higher, a challenging scenario given the U.S. central bank’s current priority to tame inflation. Energy markets rose following the OPEC announcement and U.S. inventory data, as WTI and Brent European crude increased 1.8% and 2%, respectively. Natural gas prices increased 1.8%. Metals: Gold prices declined 0.3%, while copper futures rose 1.6% ADP Employment, which measures job creation among private U.S. businesses, grew by 208,000 in September, versus consensus estimates of 200,000, and a 12% increase over the 185,000 jobs created in August. According to the report, annual pay increased 7.8% for workers who stayed at their jobs, while wages for job changers increased 15.7%. The news, which showed a still-hot jobs market, indicated that the economy is not slowing as much as inflation hawks had hoped to see. ● Bitcoin (BTC): $20,041 −1.6% ● Ether (ETH): $1,348 −1.2% ● CoinDesk Market Index (CMI): 980.86 −0.7% ● S&P 500 daily close: 3,783.28 −0.2% ● Gold: $1,725 per troy ounce +0.2% ● Ten-year Treasury yield daily close: 3.76% +0.1 Bitcoin, ether and gold prices are taken at approximately 4pm New York time. BTC continues to trade in a consolidated range BTC prices spent much of Wednesday toggling above and below $20,000, as the largest cryptocurrency by market cap continues to trade in a tight range. The Average True Range (ATR) for BTC has decreased 64% in 2022. ATR measures an asset’s daily range of movement. The contraction of ATR for bitcoin signals prices have gotten less volatile. In lieu of a tangible catalyst, BTC continues to fluctuate as the narrative around economic growth changes. Tuesday’s Market Wrap highlighted increased optimism for a Federal Reserve pivot to lower interest rates, which seemingly pushed risk assets (both traditional and digital) higher. Today’s better-than-expected ADP jobs data is having the opposite effect, giving the Fed additional cover to follow through on its intentions to push interest rates aggressively higher. The CME FedWatch tool continues to project another hefty 0.75-percentage-point (75-basis-point) rate hike in November. For BTC investors looking for bullish signs, on-chain analytics offer potential clues for bitcoin price expansion when volatility begins to increase. The net position change for stablecoins (denoted in green in the chart below) on cryptocurrency exchanges has begun to increase again, and has been net positive in each of the most recent 24 days. Often an increase in the balance of stablecoins implies additional buying pressure for an asset, whereas the increased supply of cryptocurrencies (i.e. BTC and ETH), implies increased selling pressure. For BTC investors leaning bearishly, the current bitcoin price appears to be near its production cost. Glassnode’s Difficulty Regression Model estimates the “cost of production” for BTC miners, and currently it puts that at approximately $18,081, or 11% below bitcoin’s current price. A reduction in BTC’s price below this figure is likely to add stress to bitcoin miners, which could have a downward impact on prices as well. Viewing that in conjunction with technical data, however, implies that while nearing the cost of production, buying support exists at levels above $18,000. Volume Profile Visual Range (VPVR), a tool that illustrates trading volume by price level, indicates that historically BTC investors have been willing to add to long positions in a range between $19,000 and $20,000. U.S. Appeals Court Sends DACA Case Back To Lower Court To Consider New Rules – Reuters.com https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/u-s-appeals-court-sends-daca-case-back-to-lower-court-to-consider-new-rules-reuters-com/ WASHINGTON, Oct 5 (Reuters) – A federal appeals court ruled on Wednesday that a program that has protected hundreds of thousands of young immigrants from deportation was unlawful, but said current enrollees could renew their status and sent the case back to a lower court to consider a new Biden administration regulation. A panel of three judges from the conservative-leaning 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed a lower court’s ruling against the program, called Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), but remanded the case in light of a new regulation issued in August. The decision is a mixed one for U.S. President Joe Biden, a Democrat, who said he wants a permanent pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients – often known as “Dreamers.” Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com The court allowed for the current 594,000 DACA enrollees to maintain their status, but continues to block new applications. In remanding the case, the appeals court said it did not have enough information to rule on the new regulation, which is set to take effect on Oct. 31, but that the case should be resolved as quickly as possible. The 46-page opinion signaled the judges were skeptical of DACA’s legality. “The legal questions that DACA presents are serious, both to the parties and to the public,” they wrote. “In our view, the defendants have not shown that there is a likelihood that they will succeed on the merits.” Former President Barack Obama, a Democrat, whom Biden served under as vice president, created DACA in 2012 after efforts by U.S. Congress to grant citizenship to immigrants brought to the country as children failed. Texas and a coalition of states with Republican attorneys general in 2018 sued to end DACA, arguing it was illegally implemented. In July 2021, U.S. District Court Judge Andrew Hanen in Texas sided with states. read more Hanen’s decision blocked new DACA applications from being processed, but pre-existing DACA recipients were allowed to continue receiving benefits and apply for renewal. read more The Biden administration appealed the decision, sending the case to the 5th Circuit. Biden’s predecessor, former Republican President Donald Trump, tried to end the program but was stymied by the Supreme Court. The opinion issued on Wednesday was authored by an appointee of former President George W. Bush, a Republican, who was joined by two Trump appointees. Biden came into office promising to work toward a long-term solution for the “Dreamers,” but Republicans and Democrats have found little common ground on immigration in recent years, making a legislative fix before the Nov. 8 midterm elections unlikely. Tech News: 5 Things To Know In Australia Today – Gizmodo Australia https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/tech-news-5-things-to-know-in-australia-today-gizmodo-australia-5/ Good morning, hope you’re staying dry this miserable Thursday. Here are a few things happening in the tech world to brighten your day. 1. The Google Pixel 7 is upon us At Google’s I/O developer conference in May we got a glimpse of the company’s 2022 flagship, the Google Pixel 7, and its bigger sibling, the Pixel 7 Pro, but at its Made By Google event, happening overnight (12am on October 7 AEDT), we’ll get a better look at the next generation of Pixel phones. Check-in with us tomorrow for all the details on Google’s latest batch of Pixel devices. — Google Pixel (@GooglePixel_US) October 5, 2022 2. Google settles U.S. ‘location data’ case Staying in Google town and two years ago, the Arizona Attorney General sued Google for allegedly tricking people into giving up their location data, even after they tried to turn off the company’s location data settings. Google agreed to pay $US85 million (a little under $120 million) to settle the lawsuit this week and fix an incorrect description of what its Location History setting actually does. If it sounds familiar, that’s because there was a similar case in Australia. In August, Google agreed to pay $60 million in penalties to settle claims that it misled some users about personal location data collected through Android devices for two years. 3. Overwatch 2 launch not going as planned One of the biggest games of the year is off to a rocky start, with Overwatch 2 plagued by problems, including a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack that impacted launch day play. Blizzard president Mike Ybarra announced on Twitter yesterday that the Overwatch 2 servers were undergoing a “mass” DDoS attack. Things haven’t gotten much better, with a second DDoS attack and servers still not exactly stable. We’re steadily making progress on server issues and stability, as well as working through a second DDoS attack. We’re all hands on deck and will continue to work throughout the night. Thank you for your patience – we’ll share more info as it becomes available. — Aaron Keller (@aaronkellerOW) October 5, 2022 4. Prison security firm next data breach casualty The Guardian is reporting that current and former employees of a security firm that provides services for prisons across Australia (including previously the federal government’s offshore detention centre on Manus Island) have had their personal information stolen. The firm, G4S, said it had been the subject of “a cyber incident” that gave an unauthorised third party, “or malware program”, access to its systems. The breached data includes tax file numbers, bank account information and medical checks. 5. Capital One hacker gets merely 5 years Still on data breaches and if you cast your mind back to 2019 when U.S. bank Capital One had 100 million credit card users’ accounts hacked, you’d remember it was one of the largest breaches for its time. Well, today, ex-Amazon software engineer Paige Thompson, the woman who cost the company at least $US270 million (around $380 million in Aussie terms), was sentenced to time served and just five years’ probation in a Washington court. BONUS ITEM: Today in ‘Elon Musk is the main character’, we bring you X, the ‘everything app’. Someone should tell him to log off. Buying Twitter is an accelerant to creating X, the everything app — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) October 4, 2022 See you bright and early tomorrow for Made By Google.

Returning Flights To RSW Bring Families Back Together After Hurricane Ian Shutdown Travel – FOX 4 News Fort Myers WFTX https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/returning-flights-to-rsw-bring-families-back-together-after-hurricane-ian-shutdown-travel-fox-4-news-fort-myers-wftx/ FORT MYERS, Fla.  — On Wednesday, limited flights started back up again at Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) after Hurricane Ian closed its runways. Families whose homes were robbed by Hurricane Ian, like Maureen and Craig from Fort Myers Beach (FMB), were using the re-opened runways on Wednesday to seek shelter. “My husband has to get a hip replacement surgery which will not be able to take place now because we have no place to live down here,” said Maureen. Maureen’s husband Craig said just two days earlier, police told them they had to leave their FMB home. “The cops actually escorted us back to our condo and said ‘You got to get off,’” said Craig. Maureen and Craig’s trip back to Connecticut meant leaving behind what’s left of their home. An emotional time for many Southwest Florida locals from Fort Myers Beach to Sanibel Island. “Yesterday the Mayor said it’s uninhabitable,” said one traveler who held back tears as she walked to the concourse. Other travelers at RSW said Hurricane Ian created a vacation nightmare, they are ready to wake up from. It’s a different story for David and Deb Keller who live in North Fort Myers and were vacationing in Detroit when the storm made landfall. “It’s just nice to get home.” David Keller and his wife Deb said they jumped on RSW’s first returning flight since closing down to answer the call they heard, while up north in the motor city. “You are sitting up north and your neighbors are calling ya and you are wondering okay, what can I do for them, so it’s hard to sit up there and not be able to do anything,” said Keller. I asked David Keller at RSW how quickly he wanted to get home. “I can hardly wait to get back and get at it, ya know,” said Keller. Deb Keller can hardly wait to help rebuild what Hurricane Ian temporarily took from them. “We wanted to be on this flight, and not be tomorrow or the next day we wanted to get home and start helping others and see what our home is like even,” said Deb Keller. An idea welcomed by airport staff and shown throughout the airport on signs that read, “Welcome back, we missed you.” Copyright 2022 Scripps Media, Inc. All rights reserved. TDCI Joins NASAA In Cautioning Investors About Investment Scams In The Metaverse Tn.gov
TDCI Joins NASAA In Cautioning Investors About Investment Scams In The Metaverse Tn.gov
TDCI Joins NASAA In Cautioning Investors About Investment Scams In The Metaverse – Tn.gov https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/tdci-joins-nasaa-in-cautioning-investors-about-investment-scams-in-the-metaverse-tn-gov/ NASHVILLE  – The Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance’s (“TDCI”) Division of Securities is joining the North American Securities Administrators Association (“NASAA”) to share an Informed Investor Advisory cautioning investors to protect themselves from investment scams and frauds offered in the unregulated metaverse, the online virtual “world” that provides users with immersive experiences through virtual or augmented reality technologies. The metaverse may offer numerous potential investment opportunities, including virtual real estate, nonfungible tokens (“NFT”) and other businesses. But the advisory warns that the lack of regulation in the metaverse, combined with the ability to operate from anywhere in the world, make it easy for fraudsters to hide their financial schemes. In addition, security lapses on some developing platforms and the ability to build fake metaverse experiences can lead to hacks, fraud, or the theft of users’ funds. “All investments come with some risk, and no one can be guaranteed against loss when it comes to an investment,” said TDCI Commissioner Carter Lawrence. “While the metaverse promises the benefits of new technology, scammers will use it to dress up the same old financial scams and prey on investors in the metaverse. Tennesseans need to be wary of any investment that is promising unrealistic returns with minimal risk.” The advisory explains the risk of metaverse-focused investment scams and frauds, and how investors can protect themselves if they are considering investing in this emerging realm. TDCI and NASAA are providing the following tips to help investors identify common telltale signs of possible investment fraud in the metaverse: Understand the risks and make sure you are comfortable with them, including the possibility that you might lose your entire investment. Verify that the person or entity offering the investment is registered with one or more securities regulators. Visit TDCI’s Securities division online here. Avoid discussing investments or sharing personal or account information with avatars, or digital representations of users that can take on any appearance or personal attribute. Fraudsters may try to leverage shared interests, ideas, and goals to build trust and convince investors to invest in phony investment schemes. Steer clear of metaverse crypto or NFT investment offers and avoid investment advice in the metaverse. Be wary of misinformation including fake news and online celebrity gossip as scammers write fake online articles and social media posts that create buzz by falsely stating a celebrity or public figure is involved in technology investment. “Investors should remember that the rules that apply to investments in the physical world also apply to investments in virtual worlds,” said TDCI Assistant Commissioner for Securities Elizabeth Bowling. “When considering any investment, investors should watch for signs of fraud and objectively consider all the information available before making the investment.” Before making financial decisions about how to invest your money, investors can contact TDCI’s Securities Team by phone at (615) 741-2947 or visit us online for more details. 10 Best Dinnerware Sets 2022 — Cute Dinnerware Plates Sets – Cosmopolitan https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/10-best-dinnerware-sets-2022-cute-dinnerware-plates-sets-cosmopolitan/ RossHelenGetty Images Adulthood is filled with so many surprises. One morning, you wake up and realize hangovers are now a multi-day affair. As for staying out past a certain time, well, that’s just not happening anymore because getting a full night’s sleep is a must (especially when you have a cozy comforter set waiting for you at home). And, perhaps most surprising of all, you suddenly care a lot about kitchen accessories. Maybe it’s because adulthood comes with more dinner parties and hosting duties, but it’s not uncommon to find yourself paying closer attention to cool gadgets and classy utensils. The right kitchen tools, after all, make you feel more ~put together~. That’s precisely why having a good dinnerware set is so essential for elevating your kitchen style. Now, if you’re anything like me, you’ve probably held on to your mismatched bowls and plates for at least the better part of a decade. They’ve likely been sourced from a range of places, including home retailers, flea markets, your parent’s collection, and everywhere in between. The randomness is kinda charming when you think about it, really. And guess what? You can totally still hold onto those pieces and use them for everyday eating. A proper dinnerware set, though, is worth investing in for special occasions, like hosting Friendsgiving or your BFF’s baby shower. Here are a few factors to keep in mind when shopping for your perfect set. Determine your aesthetic Take the color and overall design style of your kitchen and dining areas into account when selecting which colors, patterns, and overall style of dinnerware is best for you. Neutrals or bright colors? Solid colors or fun patterns? Number of settings and pieces Before selecting a dinnerware set, you’re going to need to decide how many pieces you’ll need. Are you planning on hosting large parties? If so, you’ll want to make sure to get a set that includes at least six settings. If you want something for everyday use, you can go with one that has enough settings for each person in your household (or a classic set of four is always a good go-to). Do you want multiple plate and bowl sizes? Think about what food you’ll be serving the most. Durability If you want a set that’s ~fancier~, you’ll probably want to consider porcelain or ceramic. But if you’d prefer pieces that you don’t have to be as delicate with, opt for a material that’s more lightweight and less breakable. The Taliban Crushed Afghanistan’s Crypto Market, Study Says – HT Tech https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/the-taliban-crushed-afghanistans-crypto-market-study-says-ht-tech/ A crackdown by the Taliban has led to a collapse in cryptocurrency use in Afghanistan. A crackdown by the Taliban has led to a collapse in cryptocurrency use in Afghanistan following a surge last year when the nation was cut off from global banking and international aid, according to a study. The value of crypto received in the country has fallen to an average of less than $80,000 a month since November, down from a peak of more than $150 million in September last year just after the Taliban swept back to power, according to a report by blockchain research firm Chainalysis. “The Taliban’s crackdown has had a massive chilling effect on the country’s crypto markets,” according to the report, which added that “crypto dealers are left with three options: flee the country, cease operations, or risk arrest.” Afghans turned to virtual coins as a lifeline to receive foreign remittances and donations, as well as to shield savings from the Taliban, who were shunned internationally after taking charge in the wake of a chaotic US withdrawal. In August, the regime imposed a nationwide ban on crypto, calling it “haram” — or sinful business. The Taliban arrested 13 crypto dealers who defied orders to stop trading digital tokens. They were later released on bail pending trial. Chainalysis said Afghanistan has dropped to the bottom of its crypto adoption index after placing 20th last year. The Middle East and North Africa crypto market overall is relatively small but among the fastest growing, according to the researcher: Users there received $566 billion in crypto from July 2021 to June 2022, up 48% from a year earlier.

Dollar Gains As Investors See Fed Stance Likely Unchanged; Euro, Sterling Fall – Reuters https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/dollar-gains-as-investors-see-fed-stance-likely-unchanged-euro-sterling-fall-reuters/ Dollar gains Sterling falls after rising for six sessions NZ move dims hopes of slowdown in rate rises globally NEW YORK, Oct 5 (Reuters) – The dollar rebounded from recent weakness on Wednesday as investors viewed the U.S. Federal Reserve’s aggressive stance on interest rates as likely unchanged, with the euro and sterling down at least 1% each. The euro was down 1% at $0.9892, and was set for its biggest daily percentage slide since Sept. 23, after rising 1.7% on Tuesday. Sterling was down 1.1% at $1.1344 after rising for six straight sessions. Its fall extended slightly as UK Prime Minister Liz Truss pledged to bring down debt as a share of national income, just over a week after the government’s plans to slash taxes and ramp up borrowing spooked markets. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com Adding to the pressure on the pound, data showed Britain’s private-sector economy last month suffered the sharpest contraction in activity since a COVID-19 lockdown early last year. A dollar index measuring the greenback against a basket of currencies was last up about 1%. On Tuesday, it had its biggest daily percentage decline since March 2020. Recent gains for most major currencies against the dollar have been underpinned by hope among investors and traders that the Fed will raise interest rates by less than previously expected. “You had a general risk-on where the euro, sterling really traded well and the stock market gained. I kind of think this is just (investors) exploring a trading range,” said Marc Chandler, chief market strategist at Bannockburn Global Forex in New York. “The bottom line is the bounce in risk assets is not taking place because of a change in Fed views,” he said. On Wednesday, the ADP National Employment report showed private employment rose by 208,000 in September, above the 200,000 consensus forecast of economists polled by Reuters, while separately the Institute for Supply Management’s (ISM) non-manufacturing PMI reading came in slightly above expectations. Also, U.S. Fed Governor Philip Jefferson reiterated overnight that inflation was the top target for policymakers and that growth would suffer in efforts to bring it down. San Francisco Fed President Mary Daly took a softer line and said the impact of the dollar, which is up sharply this year, on other currencies and economies was a concern. From here, investors are likely to focus on Friday’s U.S. jobs report, Bannockburn’s Chandler said, which will be watched for clues on the possible trajectory of the Fed’s monetary policy. In other currencies, the dollar was up 0.2% against the Japanese yen , while the dollar was up 0.4% at 7.0676 against China’s offshore yuan . Chinese authorities have come out in recent weeks with maneuvers to slow the yuan’s slide. A fifth consecutive 50-basis-point rate hike from the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) on Wednesday reminded investors that inflation remains the main focus of central banks. The New Zealand dollar was last up 0.1% at $0.5744, having jumped as much as 1.3% earlier in the session. The Aussie dollar was near flat at $0.6502. Experts: Russia Finding New Ways To Spread Propaganda Videos – The Associated Press – En Español https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/experts-russia-finding-new-ways-to-spread-propaganda-videos-the-associated-press-en-espanol/ Russia has devised yet another way to spread disinformation about its invasion of Ukraine, using digital tricks that allow its war propaganda videos to evade restrictions imposed by governments and tech companies. Accounts linked to Russian state-controlled media have used the new method to spread dozens of videos in 18 different languages, all without leaving telltale signs that would give away the source, researchers at Nisos, a U.S.-based intelligence firm that tracks disinformation and other cyber threats, said in a report released Wednesday. The videos push Kremlin conspiracy theories blaming Ukraine for civilian casualties as well as claims that residents of areas forcibly annexed by Russia have welcomed their occupiers. English-language versions of the Russian propaganda videos are now circulating on Twitter and lesser-known platforms popular with American conservatives, including Gab and Truth Social, created by former President Donald Trump, giving Russia a direct conduit to millions of people. In an indication of the Kremlin’s ambitions and the sprawling reach of its disinformation operations, versions of the videos were also created in Spanish, Italian, German and more than a dozen other languages. “The genius of this approach is that the videos can be downloaded directly from Telegram and it erases the trail that researchers try to follow,” Nisos’ senior intelligence analyst Patricia Bailey told The Associated Press. “They are creative and adaptable. And they are analyzing their audience.” The European Union moved to ban RT and Sputnik, two of Russia’s leading state-run media outlets, after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in late February. Tech companies such as Google’s YouTube and Meta’s Facebook and Instagram also announced they would ban content from the outlets within the 27-nation EU, undermining Russia’s ability to spread its propaganda. Russian attempts to get around the new rules began almost immediately. New websites were created to host videos that make debunked claims about the war. Russian diplomats took on some of the work. The latest effort revealed by analysts at Nisos involved uploading propaganda videos to Telegram, a loosely moderated platform that is broadly popular in Eastern Europe and used by many conservatives in the United States. In some cases, watermarks identifying the video as RT’s were removed in a further attempt to disguise their source. Once on Telegram, the videos were downloaded and reposted on platforms including Twitter without any labels or other indications that the video was produced by Russian state media. Hundreds of accounts that later posted or reposted the videos were linked by Nisos researchers to the Russian military, embassies or state media. Some of the accounts appeared to use fake profile photos or posted content in strange ways that suggested they were inauthentic. One example: a Twitter account supposedly run by a woman living in Japan that had a singular interest in Russian propaganda. Instead of posting about a variety of topics such as entertainment, food, travel or family, the account user only posted Russian propaganda videos — and not just in Japanese, but also in Farsi, Polish, Spanish and Russian. The account also cited or reposted content from Russian embassies hundreds of times, researchers found, showing again the close relationship between Russian diplomats and the country’s propaganda work. When it comes to Russia’s overall disinformation capabilities, Bailey said, the network is “just one piece of a puzzle that is quite large.” Twitter labels content that it can identify as coming from Russian state media. Since late February, the company says it’s added labels to more than 900,000 different Tweets that contained links to Russian state outlets like RT. In addition, the platform does not artificially promote content from state media accounts. “We use labels to make it clear on Twitter when an account is operated by a state actor, such as a state-backed media outlet, and we will not recommend or amplify Tweets from these types of accounts,” a company spokesperson told The AP. More examples of Russian disinformation campaigns have emerged as the war has dragged on. Last week, Russia sought to spread a baseless conspiracy theory blaming the U.S. for sabotage to the Nord Stream natural gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea. The same week, Meta announced the discovery of a sprawling Russian disinformation network that created websites designed to look like major European news outlets. Instead of news, the websites carried propaganda intended to drive a wedge between Ukraine and its western allies. That operation was the largest of its kind to originate in Russia since the war began, researchers concluded. “The network exhibited an overarching pattern of targeting Europe with anti-Ukraine narratives and expressions of support for Russian interests,” according to a report from the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab, which helped identify the network disabled by Meta. ___ Follow AP’s coverage of the war in Ukraine at https://apnews.com/hub/russia-ukraine

WHO Probing Indian Cough Syrup After 66 Children Die In The Gambia – Monitor https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/who-probing-indian-cough-syrup-after-66-children-die-in-the-gambia-monitor/ The World Health Organization (WHO) issued an alert Wednesday over four cough and cold syrups made by Maiden Pharmaceuticals in India, warning they could be linked to the deaths of 66 children in The Gambia. The UN health agency also cautioned that the contaminated medications may have been distributed outside of the West African country, with global exposure “possible.” WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told reporters that the four cold and cough syrups in question “have been potentially linked with acute kidney injuries and 66 deaths among children.” “The loss of these young lives is beyond heartbreaking for their families.” Tedros said that WHO was also “conducting further investigation with the company and regulatory authorities in India.” According to the medical product alert issued by WHO Wednesday, the four products are Promethazine Oral Solution, Kofexmalin Baby Cough Syrup, Makoff Baby Cough Syrup and Magrip N Cold Syrup. “To date, the stated manufacturer has not provided guarantees to WHO on the safety and quality of these products,” the alert said, adding that laboratory analysis of samples of the products “confirms that they contain unacceptable amounts of diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol as contaminants.” Those substances are toxic to humans and can be fatal, it said, adding that the toxic effect “can include abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, inability to pass urine, headache, altered mental state and acute kidney injury which may lead to death.” The Gambia’s health ministry asked hospitals last month to stop using a syrup paracetamol, pending the outcome of an investigation, after at least 28 children died of kidney failure. WHO said that information received from India’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation indicated that the manufacturer had only supplied the contaminated medications to The Gambia. “However, the supply of these products through informal or unregulated markets to other countries in Africa, cannot be ruled out,” the UN agency said in an email. “In addition, the manufacturer may have used the same contaminated material in other products and distributed them locally or exported,” it warned. “Global exposure is therefore possible.” Tedros urged caution, calling on all countries to work to “detect and remove these products from circulation to prevent further harm to patients.” The Gambian health ministry’s advice on syrup paracetamol was issued on September 9, a month after investigators reported the death of at least 28 children aged five months to four years from acute renal failure. The investigation had been opened on July 19. No details were given as to when the children died.

Japan To Promote The Expanded Use Of Metaverse And NFTs – Kitco NEWS https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/japan-to-promote-the-expanded-use-of-metaverse-and-nfts-kitco-news/ Editor’s Note: With so much market volatility, stay on top of daily news! Get caught up in minutes with our speedy summary of today’s must-read news and expert opinions. Sign up here! (Kitco News) – Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced plans to further promote the use of the Metaverse and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) during a public policy speech delivered before Japan’s National Diet.  “We will also promote efforts to expand the use of Web 3.0 services that utilize Metaverse and NFT,” Kishida said during Monday’s speech dedicated to digital transformation and the advancement of digital technology.  The Prime Minister emphasized that the government’s investment in the ongoing digital transformation already includes the issuance of NFTs to local authorities using digital technology to solve jurisdictional disagreements.  Kashida was referring to the “Summer Digi Denkoshien 2022” ceremony held in September, where seven local mayors were awarded NFTs for their utilization of digital technology to solve local challenges. Web3 development has been highlighted as a point of focus for Kashida, who made it one of his pillars of economic revitalization after coming into office in 2021.  In April, Kishida’s Liberal Democratic Party published an “NFT White Paper” that detailed Japan’s Web3 plans, including policy recommendations for user protection and advancing a national strategy for the Web3 era. In July, his administration joined forces with the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) to launch a Web3 Policy Promotion Office to integrate Web3-related departments within the ministry. The office collects data from businesses across all sectors of society and incorporates relevant ministries and agencies to develop Web3-related projects. This recent speech marks the latest advancement in the country’s focus on embracing a digital future by investing and promoting players in the Web3 space. Increased demand for NFT trademarks Despite the pullback in NFT prices in 2022 after a blowout year in 2021, interest in the burgeoning sector continues to increase as more people around the world are introduced to the technology.  According to figures compiled by trademark attorney Mike Kondoudis that were pulled from U.S. Patent and Trademark Office data, the number of trademark applications relating to NFTs and other blockchain products that have been filed in 2022, as of the end of September, is 6,366.  For comparison, the total number of trademark registrations in 2021 was 2,142, meaning that 2022 has already seen nearly triple the number of registrations with three months still left in the year. The 2021 total was originally surpassed in March, the most active filing month of 2022, when a total of 1,080 registrations were submitted.  March of 2022 was the hottest month for NFT-related trademark filings, with 1,080 submitted. Every subsequent month in 2022 had lower filings, with a 15% decrease between August and September of this year.  2022 NFT trademark applications. Source: Michael Kondoudis. The number of new monthly filings has been on the decline since March, which coincides with the dramatic downturn in the crypto market that was sparked by the implosion of Terra/Luna and its TerraUSD (UST) stablecoin.  Disclaimer: The views expressed in this article are those of the author and may not reflect those of Kitco Metals Inc. Our Favorite Guest Stars In BATMAN: WAYNE FAMILY ADVENTURES Season 1 – Geek Girl Authority https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/our-favorite-guest-stars-in-batman-wayne-family-adventures-season-1-geek-girl-authority/ My favorite feel-good WEBTOON returned from hiatus last week and kicked off its second season! Yes, I’m talking about StarBite, CRC Payne, Kielamel Sibal, Lan Ma, C.M. Cameron and Camille Cruz‘s Eisner award-nominated Batman: Wayne Family Adventures. For the uninitiated, this is a slice-of-life series starring Bruce Wayne/Batman and the family he’s formed. Regular characters include all five Robins (Dick, Jason, Stephanie, Tim and Damian), Barbara Gordon (as Oracle), Cassandra Cain and Duke Thomas. And, of course, Alfred Pennyworth, the heart of this found family. While the hero/vigilante aspects of the group are maintained, Batman: Wayne Family Adventures puts its emphasis squarely on the “family” parts of its characterizations. Everyday problems take the forefront. Like, will dad Bruce make it to daughter Cass’s ballet recital? Will big brother Dick recognize little brother Tim misses spending time with him? This is a series where the emotional connections between characters underpin everything else.  Dick and Tim, as seen in episode 27 RELATED: 10 Places to Get to Know the Bat Family Batman: Wayne Family Adventures went on a brief hiatus in August after the first season, which comprised of fifty-one episodes. Season Two, which launched September 28, 2022, has kicked off with Episode 52 and the introduction of a character as-yet-unseen in the WEBTOON – Bluebird. I love all of the regular characters in this series so much. But the “guest stars” are a lot of fun, too. Inspired by Bluebird (a character I’m unfamiliar with) and in celebration of the new season, I’ve compiled a list of my favorite guest-star episodes from season one. DISCLAIMER: We are taking a peek into the different episodes within Batman: Wayne Family Adventures, so you might run into spoilers below. If you aren’t caught up on the series, we highly recommend it! New episodes drop every Thursday and can be read here! Alfred Eats Dinner at the Kents’  Episode 47: “World’s Finest” Guest Stars: Ma & Pa Kent (Superman’s adoptive parents) and Superman The only thing better than Alfred trading stories with Superman’s adoptive parents over dinner is Superman freaking out over it with Batman at the batcave. This episode was so much fun. And Batman and Superman have definite Super Sons vibes here (a plus for me!) Jonathan Kent, as seen in BWFA Episode 47 RELATED: 5 of Our Favorite Grandparents in WEBTOON Series Batman and Catwoman Flirt Episode 26: “TMI” Guest Star: Catwoman Batman forgets to turn off his comm line here and inadvertently broadcasts himself putting the moves on Catwoman to his entire family. I love it.  This is also a great example of the way Batman: Wayne Family Adventures humanizes Bruce Wayne (who is not exactly at his most suave and sophisticated here.) Catwoman and Batman, as seen in BWFA Episode 26 Damian Reads Pride & Prejudice Episode 31: “Dirty Little Secret” Guest Star: Jane Austen (via her novel) Damian thinks he’s found something blackmail-worthy on Jason when he discovers a copy of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice in Jason’s things. Jason (upping his cool quotient considerably for me) sets him straight. Consequently, while Jason calmly cleans his weapons, Damian spends the rest of the night reading Austen. This might be my favorite Batman: Wayne Family Adventure episode. “I do not trust this Wickham character. He seems wrong for Elizabeth.”  ~Damian Wayne to Jason Todd RELATED: Love WEBTOONs as much as us? Check out Saturday Morning Webtoon for your next read! Talia al Ghul Checks Up on Her Kid Episode 18: “Mother and Son” Guest Star: Talia al Ghul (Damian’s assassin mom) I don’t know too much about Talia al Ghul, but this episode has me interested in exploring her backstory. How did she and Bruce/Batman get together? What is her relationship with Damian going forward? The heart she shows here, contrasted with what I already know of her as the daughter of Ra’s al Ghul and an assassin, intrigues me. Talia al Ghul, as seen in BWFA Episode 18 RELATED: WEBTOON and DC Drop First-Look Images for Red Hood: Outlaws Jason’s PTSD is Triggered Episodes 45 & 46: “Strong Enough” Guest Star: The Joker Not every episode of Batman: Wayne Family Adventures is humorous. This one, focusing on the scars Jason carries courtesy of the Joker, was heartbreaking. The Joker doesn’t actually appear here, except in Jason’s memory, but he looms powerfully. And the importance of family ties and friendship in the healing process is beautifully portrayed. “Remember, there’s no timetable for healing. Do what you need to do.” ~Alfred Pennyworth to Jason Todd Jason Todd, as seen in BWFA Episode 45 Nobody in the Justice League Can Tie a Tie Episode 38: “S.O.S.” Guest Stars: Superman, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, the Flash, Wonder Woman This episode, which serves as proof that being a superhero doesn’t mean you can conquer formal dress, is just silly fun. It also highlights the inherent coolness of Alfred, who might not have superpowers or bat gadgets or the like, but is pretty much indispensable. Wonder Woman, as seen in BWFA Episode 38 RELATED: 10 Spooky WEBTOON Series to Read for Halloween The GCPD Discuss the Robins Episode 35: “GCPD” Guest Stars: Commissioner Gordon and Renee Montoya The perfect thumbnail portrait this gives of each of the Robins is what makes this episode great. The commentary of the Commissioner and Renee Montoya, grudging admirers of these upstart kids, makes me laugh every time.  “Yeah, the lectures aren’t fun. But at least they still leave you with something to do. I hate when the kids just solve our cases for us.” ~Renee Montoya to Commissioner Gordon Harley and Superman Cover for Batman Episode 51: “Night In” Guest Stars: Superman and Harley Quinn I’m not the world’s biggest Harley Quinn fan. (I know, I know. She just gets on my nerves!) But I like her here, as a foil to Superman. I wouldn’t mind seeing more of these two together.  Superman and Harley Quinn, as seen in BWFA Episode 51 Regular Batman: Wayne Family Adventures readers: do you have a favorite episode or character? Bitwise Launches New Web3 ETF As Crypto Markets Rebound – Cryptonews https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/bitwise-launches-new-web3-etf-as-crypto-markets-rebound-cryptonews/ Source: AdobeStock/24K-Production Hoping to capitalize on the rebounding crypto markets, San Francisco-based crypto index fund provider Bitwise has rolled out BWEB, a new Web3 exchange-traded fund (ETF). ETFs are financial instruments that trade on an exchange like stock, but track a specific market or asset, such as bitcoin (BTC). “Today, many experts believe we’re on the cusp of a major evolution in the core architecture of the internet,” Matt Hougan, Bitwise’s Chief Investment Officer, said in a statement. “With the Bitwise Web3 ETF, we’re excited to give investors the opportunity to capture one of the fastest-emerging themes in technology through a diverse mix of companies that we believe will lead the charge.”  “More than 85% of the index is comprised of ‘pure-play’ companies directly linked to Web3 themes and business activities,” the statement said. A factsheet presenting the product states that, as of October 4, the ETF’s top ten holdings included crypto exchange Coinbase, online gaming platform Roblox, data center specialist Equinix, game developer Unity Software, Facebook’s parent company Meta Platforms, social media platform Twitter, online retail specialist Shopify, networking and cyber-security business Cloudflare, game developer Electronic Arts, and game publisher Take-Two Interactive. With more than $1.3 billion in assets under management, the San Francisco-based firm says it is one of the largest crypto asset managers in the market. BWEB trades on the NYSE Arca, a U.S. securities exchange on which exchange-traded products (ETPs) and equities are listed. The Bank of New York Mellon is the ETF’s custodian and administrator, according to data from Bitwise.

Even though she loved Texas, she missed her sister and father in Missouri. Carrie considered herself a gypsy soul, that was forever in search of her next adventure. She considered her heart home Phoenix, AZ. She was truly a desert child. Carrie’s hobbies included going to concerts, Broadway musicals, fishing, hunting, kayaking, camping, playing D&D, float trips, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. She was a fan of the Atlanta Braves and Arizona Sun Devils. It was often said that she was overly obsessed with gnomes and nutcrackers. Every year Carrie organized a gift donation during the Christmas season for the foster children of the 42nd circuit, ensuring each child had a present to open at Christmas. Carrie is survived by her father, Vernon Greer, of Piedmont, MO; sister: Tarina Greer of Springfield, MO; brothers: Vernon “Buddy” Greer and wife Serena of Lewisville, TX, Douglas Greer and wife Michelle of Little Elm, TX; nieces and nephews: Cameron MacGregor, DeeAnna and Shelby Greer, Selena Larsen, Chloe Greer and JoAnn Greer; great nieces and nephews: Hagen Russel J. Galart, Allison Grace Galart, Quinn Raeleigh Galart and Lars Larsen III; God babies: Dakota Bowers and Alexander Bowers; and last but not least her fur baby Jezzebelle, which was her “Ride or Die.” Carrie was preceded in death by her mother Anita Greer; two sisters: Amanda Greer and Doris Greer. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Visitation was held at 4:00 pm, Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont Chapel. A memorial service followed at 5:00 pm, also in the Piedmont Chapel.  Pastor Bryan Mills ministered to the family. Lora Bowles, Pamela Hawkins Henson, Cheryl and Doug Enyart gave a heart felt eulogy and shared memories. Online condolences can be made at www.rueggfuneralhomes.com

The Rise Of Sleep Tourism – Kuna Noticias Y Kuna Radio https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/the-rise-of-sleep-tourism-kuna-noticias-y-kuna-radio/ Tamara Hardingham-Gill, CNN Going on a vacation might seem like a rather unconventional way to try to improve your sleep habits. But sleep tourism has been growing in popularity for a number of years, with an increasing amount of sleep-focused stays popping up in hotels and resorts across the world. Interest has skyrocketed since the pandemic, with a number of high profile establishments focusing their attention on those suffering from sleep-deprivation. Over the past 12 months, Park Hyatt New York has opened the Bryte Restorative Sleep Suite, a 900-square-foot suite filled with sleep-enhancing amenities, while Rosewood Hotels & Resorts recently launched a collection of retreats called the Alchemy of Sleep, which are designed to “promote rest.” Zedwell, London’s first sleep-centric hotel, which features rooms equipped with innovative soundproofing, opened in early 2020, and Swedish bed manufacturer Hastens established the world’s first Hästens Sleep Spa Hotel, a 15-room boutique hotel, in the Portuguese city of Coimbra a year later. Pandemic impact So why has sleep suddenly become such a big focus for the travel industry? Dr. Rebecca Robbins, a sleep researcher and co-author of the book “Sleep for Success!” believes this shift has been a long time coming, particularly with regards to hotels. “When it comes down to it, travelers book hotels for a place to sleep,” she tells CNN Travel, before pointing out that the hotel industry has primarily been focused on things that actually detract from sleep in the past. “People often associate travel with decadent meals, extending their bed times, the attractions and the things you do while you’re traveling, really almost at the cost of sleep,” she adds. “Now, I think there’s just been a huge seismic shift in our collective awareness and prioritization on wellness and well being.” The global pandemic appears to have played a huge part in this. A study published in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine found that 40% of the over 2,500 adults who took part reported a reduction in their sleep quality since the start of the pandemic. “There has been heightened attention to sleep in the Covid-19 era, and likely, because so many people have struggled with this [sleep],” says Dr. Robbins. Prioritizing sleep Hypnotherapist, meditation and holistic coach Malminder Gill has also noticed a change in attitudes towards sleep. “Everything seems to be moving towards longevity, and I think that has really fueled things,” Gill tells CNN Travel. “Because it’s no great surprise that sleep is an important aspect of our lives. Lack of sleep can cause lots of different issues in the body, and for your mental health. “So, anxiety, depression, low mood, mood swings — all sorts of things, on top of the tiredness.” Gill has partnered with the Cadogan, a Belmond Hotel in London, to create a special service catered to guests with sleep issues called the Sleep Concierge. The service includes a sleep-inducing meditation recording, a pillow menu with options that cater to guests who may prefer to sleep on their back or side, the option of a weighted blanket, a bedtime tea developed specifically for the service, and a scented pillow mist. “Different things work for different people at different stages of their life,” Gill says of the different items offered within the service. Sleep-inducing practices “We’ve tried to stack the odds in our favor. If you combine all of those things, I would say there’s a higher chance of a better quality sleep. But I don’t think there’s a one size fits all.” The types of sleep-focused programs and/or retreats offered by hotels and resorts also tend to vary, with different establishments approaching the concept in different ways. Luxury hotel brand Six Senses offers a variety of full sleep programs, ranging from three to seven days or more, at a number of its properties, while Brown’s Hotel, a Rocco Forte hotel in Mayfair, London, recently launched, ‘Forte Winks’ a two-night experience especially created to help aid guests “into a serene sleep.” “Sleep is so important and we noticed there was a trend in sleep tourism happening, and wellness in general, after lockdowns and Covid,” explains Daniela Moore, senior group PR manager for Rocco Forte Hotels. “So we wanted to take the opportunity to showcase Brown’s as a hotel that cares about you getting the best night’s sleep.” For Gill, the emergence of more and more of these types of experiences is a sign that the “narrative of staying up to get things done,” is being challenged, and people are beginning to have a deeper understanding of just how important sleep is. Quick fix? But can short term sleep-focused travel experiences actually have a long term impact on a person’s overall sleep? According to Dr. Robbins, travel experiences centered around “healthy sleep strategies” that aim to supply guests with the tools they need to improve their sleep can be hugely beneficial, provided a reputable medical or scientific expert is involved in some way to help to determine whether there may be something else at play. “If someone comes to one of these retreats, and isn’t seeing any progress, it could be because they have an untreated sleep disorder,” she explains, pointing to conditions such as sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, or insomnia as potential examples. “That’s why it’s vitally important to make sure that hotels are partnering with scientists and medical professionals that can impart these strategies carefully.” Mandarin Oriental, Geneva has taken things a step further by teaming up with CENAS, a private medical sleeping clinic in Switzerland, to curate a three-day program that studies guests’ sleeping patterns in order to identify potential sleeping disorders. Although the majority of sleep-focused establishments and experiences tend to fall within the luxury travel sector, Dr. Robbins believes that all hotels and resorts should be making this a priority. “There are ways to make it meaningful for each level,” she adds, pointing out that “it doesn’t cost much at all to leave a pair of earplugs next to the nightstand.” As sleep tourism continues to grow, Dr. Robbins says she’s looking forward to seeing “who really continues to pioneer and think creatively about this space,” stressing that there are countless avenues that haven’t been fully explored yet when it comes to travel and the science of sleep. “The notion of travel actually rejuvenating you and allowing you to return home refreshed and restored is a really exciting proposition,” she adds.
