Quarter Of Canadians Looking To Cash Out Investments, Survey Finds – Business News – Castanet.net https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/quarter-of-canadians-looking-to-cash-out-investments-survey-finds-business-news-castanet-net/ Photo: The Canadian Press About a quarter of Canadians are losing confidence in the stock market and are now looking to cash out their investments, a new survey has found. The survey, conducted by personal finance comparison website Finder, found that those looking to cash out amid recent market volatility may also be doing so because they’re feeling a pinch in their budget. Romana King, a personal finance expert with Finder, said Canadians are feeling the pressure when it comes to rising costs and may be looking to increase the amount of money they have on hand to make ends meet. If Canadians have high interest loans, for example, they may be looking at their budget and wondering where else they can find money to lower their debts, she said. Jason Heath, managing director of Objective Financial Partners Inc., said he wasn’t surprised that some Canadians have lost confidence given that the TSX is down about 10 per cent over the past year and the S&P 500 is down about 17 per cent. “Some of the high-flying tech and meme stocks from 2021 have had a terrible year in 2022,” he said. He explained that investors can often make the mistake of being emotional or reactive to short-run performance as opposed to investing for the long-term. “These findings are supportive of the idea that stock investing success generally requires patience and a five-plus-year time horizon. But short-term losses tend to cause some investors to panic,” he said. The report said that of those looking to cash out, lower and middle income households made up the majority. The findings also differed along generational lines. The younger the investor, the more certain they are that the market will go from bear to bull again, the report found. They were also more confident they would earn a profit in 2022, regardless of current conditions. Baby boomers, on the other hand, had less confidence that they’d be able to meet or exceed their investment return projections for the year, and were more likely to want to cash out. In this scenario, older investors may also be looking to make retirement withdrawals. For Canadians planning to stay in the market and navigate a downturn, their top three investing strategies are to buy and hold (41 per cent), income investing (nine per cent), and index and a few select holdings (seven per cent). If stock market volatility makes investors uncomfortable, Heath said they may need to assess their asset allocation and consider having less risk in their investment portfolio. “Times like this are a good test for investors,” he said. “If you have a long-term time horizon, I would avoid panicking and trying to sell and buy back in at a lower level.” “It can be hard enough to be right once, let alone twice, with market timing. Even the experts tend to do a poor job of wholesale moves in and out of stocks.” Young investors should consider whether there is a buying opportunity to get stocks at a lower price, he said. “Others should remember that North American stocks returned over 25 per cent in 2021, which is like three good years of investment returns in a single year – so, arguably, we have just given back some of that temporary wealth.”

The #1 Daily Habit To Extend Your Life Study Reveals Eat This Not That Eat This Not That
The #1 Daily Habit To Extend Your Life, Study Reveals — Eat This Not That – Eat This, Not That https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/the-1-daily-habit-to-extend-your-life-study-reveals-eat-this-not-that-eat-this-not-that/ We’re here with one delicious cup of mind and body goodness. A recently published study from the European Society of Cardiology is about to perk you up with some very exciting news, because longevity just got a whole lot easier to achieve. So grab your favorite coffee mug, and read on to learn more about the simple daily habit to extend your life. Shutterstock Are you ready for the simple daily habit to extend your life? Researchers have found that drinking two to three cups of coffee may help you live longer. So grab a steamy cup of caffeine to enjoy as you read on to learn more about these incredible findings. The study reveals that enjoying two to three cups of joe each day can potentially lower your chance of developing cardiovascular disease, hence living longer, compared to not having any coffee at all. Whether your brew of choice happens to be decaf, instant, or ground, go to town and drink up, because this study reveals it’s actually really healthy for you! Related: The Best Exercises To Live to 100 and Beyond, Trainer Reveals Professor Peter Kistler of the Baker Heart and Diabetes Research Institute, Melbourne, Australia and the author of the study explains, “In this large, observational study, ground, instant, and decaffeinated coffee were associated with equivalent reductions in the incidence of cardiovascular disease and death from cardiovascular disease or any cause.” Kistler adds, “The results suggest that mild to moderate intake of ground, instant, and decaffeinated coffee should be considered part of a healthy lifestyle.” The research observed the commonalities between drinking various coffee and cardiovascular disease (including ischaemic stroke, congestive heart failure, and coronary heart disease), arrhythmias, and death. The team reviewed information from the UK Biobank, which consisted of 449,563 individuals. The participants were between the ages of 40 and 69, and 55.3% were female. None of them had cardiovascular disease or arrhythmias at the start of the study. Related: 7 Sneaky Habits That Slow Down Aging To Start Right Now The study participants answered questions regarding just how much coffee they consumed on a daily basis and whether their coffee of choice was instant, ground (such as filtered coffee or a cappuccino), or decaffeinated. The individuals were separated into six groups based on daily cup consumption: none, one cup or less, one cup, two to three cups, four to five cups, and over five cups. Researchers found the most common coffee of choice to be instant, favored by 44.1% (198,062 participants); followed by ground, 18.4% (82,575 participants), with decaffeinated being the lowest choice among the bunch, 15.2% (68,416 participants). There were 22.4% (100,510) “non-coffee drinkers” who were considered the “comparator group.” Coffee drinkers and non-coffee drinkers were observed for symptoms of cardiovascular disease, arrhythmias, and death, with adjustments made for gender, age, ethnicity, obesity, diabetes, smoking status, high blood pressure, obstructive sleep apnea, and alcohol and tea consumption. A follow-up 12 1/2 years after the study reveals that 6.2% of participants (27,809) died. Every kind of coffee indicated a decline in death from any cause, but the most positive results were noticed in the two-to-three cups-a-day coffee fans. Compared to non-coffee drinking, the study indicates lower mortality rates as follows: 14% for decaf drinkers, 27% for ground coffee lovers, and 11% for instant coffee fans. The takeaway? Every type of coffee resulted in fewer heart-related incidents. To be clear, the study participants who drank two to three cups of coffee each day revealed a lower likelihood of cardiovascular disease as follows: 6% (decaf drinkers), 20% (ground coffee fans), and 9% (team instant coffee). An arrhythmia was found in 6.7% (30,100) individuals at the time of the follow-up, along with 9.6% (43,173) who were diagnosed with cardiovascular disease. Instant and ground coffee drinkers (not decaffeinated), revealed lower cases of arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation. Four-to-five cups-a-day coffee drinkers, compared to non-drinkers, had the lowest risks when drinking ground coffee, along with instant coffee drinkers who sipped two to three cups daily. “Caffeine is the most well-known constituent in coffee, but the beverage contains more than 100 biologically active components. It is likely that the non-caffeinated compounds were responsible for the positive relationships observed between coffee drinking, cardiovascular disease, and survival. Our findings indicate that drinking modest amounts of coffee of all types should not be discouraged but can be enjoyed as a heart-healthy behavior,” Professor Kistler says. Moral of the story? The daily habit to extend your life is to drink more coffee, specifically two to three cups of joe a day! “Austin Ekeler Of The Los Angeles Chargers Introduces The EKLR Signature Gaming PC Exclusively From Newegg” – Games Press https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/austin-ekeler-of-the-los-angeles-chargers-introduces-the-eklr-signature-gaming-pc-exclusively-from-newegg-games-press/ Limited-edition, player-endorsed Advanced Battlestations gaming PC sponsored by Newegg, GIGABYTE, Intel and OLOy now available; all sales benefit the Austin Ekeler Foundation   A top NFL running back, devoted PC gamer and popular livestream host, Ekeler rushes to the leading online retailer for tech products CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif. – Oct. 4, 2022 – Newegg Commerce, Inc. (NASDAQ: NEGG), a leading global technology e-commerce retailer, today announced the launch of the EKLR PC, the signature gaming computer endorsed by Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler. The Advanced Battlestations (ABS) PC is sponsored by Newegg, GIGABYTE, Intel® and OLOy.   Available only in a bundle with a GIGABYTE monitor, the EKLR is now available exclusively at Newegg and the Newegg app. All sales benefit the Austin Ekeler Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports individuals with natural talent and limited financial resources looking to better themselves.   For details: https://newegg.io/ekeler_page   A popular online retail destination to shop for both chargers and technology products that require chargers, Newegg is partnering with the admired Los Angeles Chargers player and star running back for an endorsement partnership throughout the 2022-23 NFL season with promotional content to run on both Ekeler’s and Newegg’s social media channels.   As part of the promotional campaign, Newegg released a new commercial: https://newegg.io/ekeler_commercial   The EKLR ABS PC offers a design that shows strength and motion, representing the running back throughout its framework. The case is a powder blue, gold and white burst of lighting, reminiscent of Ekeler taking a handoff and sprinting through the offensive line into the opponent’s secondary. The one-of-a-kind ABS gaming computer, featuring Austin Ekeler Foundation logos on the case exterior, runs on both a GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card and a GIGABYTE B660 motherboard. The system is powered by a 12th Gen Intel® Core i5-12400F processor. The memory is an OLOy Blade Series DDR4 3200 16GB RGB Desktop Memory. Assembled and customized by Buildeniac, Newegg’s PC building division, the unique gaming machine with a high-end modified case offers performance to play games with confidence.   The one-of-a-kind EKLR PC is currently available only in a bundle with a GIGABYTE G27F 2 27-inch gaming monitor. (Keyboard and mouse are sold separately.)   Only 30 units of the limited edition gaming PC and monitor bundle will be available, which mirrors Ekeler’s jersey number – 30. Every dollar of the EKLR bundle sales will be donated to the Austin Ekeler Foundation, which helps hard-working individuals with limited resources improve themselves by providing otherwise inaccessible opportunities.   The PC and monitor bundle are available at this page.   Ekeler, one of the top running backs in the NFL, tied the league lead last season with 20 touchdowns (12 rushing and 8 receiving) despite only playing in 16 of his team’s 17 games. He is only the second player in Chargers team history to score 20 touchdowns in a season. His 1,558 yards from scrimmage in 2021 were third among NFL running backs and sixth among all offensive players. The sixth-year NFL player from Western Colorado University scored three touchdowns in his most recent game, a win in Houston.   When he’s not on the field, Ekeler is frequently using a PC or other tech devices at home. He has built a loyal Twitch following through positive and lively livestreams.   When his schedule allows, he plays PC games, including League of Legends, on his high-end desktop gaming PC both casually and competitively against teammates. He has competed this year on “NFL Tuesday Night Gaming,” an online esports competition series featuring current and former NFL players and content creators.   Ekeler has also gained popularity among fantasy football players and was a frequent first-round fantasy draft selection before the season. Recognizing his growing national fantasy community, Ekeler sends a signed football jersey to two randomly selected fantasy football winners each week who prove their win was with Ekeler in their starting lineup. Uncommon among pro athletes, he embraces and frequently discusses fantasy football, including his fantasy scoring contributions, on various platforms.   “I use a PC frequently for just about everything — gaming, livestreaming, social media, fantasy football, managing my entrepreneurial endeavors and running my foundation,” said Ekeler. “The EKLR gaming PC provides everything I need to get done with a PC. This PC runs some of the best PC games to compete against others online – and I’m really competitive. I always enjoy hanging out and talking with people on Twitch or otherwise video chatting with friends. I want people to get this PC from Newegg.com, not just because it’s my gaming PC, but because all sales will go directly to my charity, which gives opportunities to people in need.”   Prior to the 2022 season, Ekeler made his debut at No. 46 on the NFL Top 100 Players List, which is decided by players’ votes.   “Austin Ekeler is a fan favorite because he’s worked hard to become an elite NFL running back,” said Newegg CEO Anthony Chow. “We support the mission and community service of the Austin Ekeler Foundation so we’re glad to join our partners GIGABYTE, Intel and OLOy to donate all sales of our EKLR gaming PC to his charity. Teaming up with Austin Ekeler for the NFL season, offering a gaming PC endorsed by him and supporting the Austin Ekeler Foundation are all positives for Newegg.”   For more gaming PCs, use Gaming PC Finder.   About the Austin Ekeler Foundation The Austin Ekeler Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, has made its mission to help create opportunities for people to fulfill their passions and ultimately their lives. Ekeler launched his foundation’s first major project in June 2021, funding a new weight room for Santa Barbara High School in Santa Barbara, Calif. Since then, the foundation has provided essential items to women experiencing homelessness through the Downtown Women’s Center in Los Angeles, donated five washer and dryer sets to schools across the city of Watts, donated various classroom items to multiple SoCal elementary school teachers, and provided football equipment to various youth programs across the country including brand new uniforms, helmets, pads, footballs and more. Blockchain Intelligence Reveals Pro-Russian Groups Raising Funds Through Cryptocurrencies – Cryptonews https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/blockchain-intelligence-reveals-pro-russian-groups-raising-funds-through-cryptocurrencies-cryptonews/ Source: AdobeStock / Таня Микитюк Pro-Russian paramilitary groups are raising bitcoin (BTC) and other cryptoassets to fund their operations and evade sanctions as the invasion of Ukraine continues, reported CNBC, citing a research report published Monday by TRM Labs, a digital asset compliance and risk management company. From the start of the invasion on February 24 this year until September 22, these groups had raised $400,000 in cryptocurrency, the report claimed. The groups are using the encrypted messaging app Telegram to offer ways in which supporters can send funds. This money is then used to supply Russian-affiliated militia groups, as well as to support combat training close to the border with Ukraine, said the report. Ari Redbord, head of legal and government affairs at TRM Labs, told CNBC that these groups are “probably using non-compliant exchanges to off-ramp those funds [into fiat currency],” referring to crypto exchanges that are less compliant with anti-money laundering (AML) and other regulations. As they are raising smaller amounts of money, it is easier to move the funds – which helps their effort to avoid various sanctions, Redbord said, adding that, “You just can’t do that at scale. And […] will there be more? Of course, there’ll be more. But will it be billions of dollars? Highly unlikely.” He argued that, “I think an interesting part of this story is that crypto is just a form of payment in these cases. It’s a way to move funds. And there’s an example of it being used for good and example of it being used for bad in this context.” Task Force Rusich, a group sanctioned by the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFCA), is one of these organisations identified by TRM Labs. They are asking for funds that they will spend on items such as radios and thermal imaging equipment. On its website, the US Treasury included Task Force Rusich back in September on the list of designated individuals and entities that are facilitating Russia’s aggression in Ukraine, saying that, It is “a neo-Nazi paramilitary group that has participated in combat alongside Russia’s military in Ukraine, as well as two of its senior leaders.” Another named entity is the Novorossia Aid Coordinating Center, which raised some $21,000 in crypto, mostly in BTC, for buying equipment – specifically drones, said the report. While TRM Labs used publicly available wallet addresses, while cross-checking websites and activity online to identify the Russian-linked groups, Redbord said that it’s impossible to know if these groups were working with the Russian government or were somehow backed by it. ____

Analysis | If Mehmet Oz Wins, There Will Be Five Doctors In The U.S. Senate – The Washington Post https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/analysis-if-mehmet-oz-wins-there-will-be-five-doctors-in-the-u-s-senate-the-washington-post/ We’re back! Happy Tuesday, everyone. Our pal Dan Diamond is interviewing Anthony Fauci for USC Annenberg’s Center for Health Journalism this afternoon. Zoom in here.  Today’s edition: The White House is announcing over $6 million in grants aimed at expanding access to reproductive health. The latest on the cost of the new ALS drug. But first …  Dr. Oz has a checkered history of promoting questionable weight-loss plans On the campaign trail, Mehmet Oz is leaning into his background as a doctor. The cardiothoracic surgeon turned TV star turned Pennsylvania’s GOP nominee for Senate stands in front of banners with the words “Dr. Oz” and his campaign slogan is a “dose of reality.” He has used the theme, “The Doctor is In,” our colleagues Colby Itkowitz and Lenny Bernstein report. Doctors running for Congress often tout their credentials as surgeons or emergency medical physicians or ophthalmologists, but that can come with extra scrutiny of their medical records. But Oz isn’t just a doctor; he hosted a daytime television show aimed at millions of viewers for over a decade where he provided a platform for potentially dangerous products and fringe viewpoints, Colby and Lenny write.  Doctors in Congress often take the lead on health-care issues. They’re known to sit on powerful health panels or lead the introduction of health-care bills. Yet, Oz’s history will surely raise criticisms from some medical experts and doctors if he’s involved in crafting the nation’s health policy should he win in November. If Oz wins — and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) wins reelection — there will be five doctors in the Senate. Currently, there are 17 doctors on Capitol Hill, 14 of them Republicans and three of them Democrats. New physician candidates are vying for Congress in the midterm elections, including Democratic nominees Kermit Jones (Calif.) and Annie Andrews (S.C.) — who are endorsed by a new PAC, Healthcare For Action, aiming to boost the number of Democratic health-care workers in Congress — and Republican nominees Larry Lazor (Conn.) and Miriam Levitt Flisser (N.Y.). While Oz’s show was on air from 2009 to 2021, he received criticism for providing a platform for questionable products and views.  Such treatments included a weight-loss approach that involved taking a hormone women produce during pregnancy while eating 500 calories per day; garcinia cambogia, an herbal weight-loss product the Food and Drug Administration has said can cause liver damage; and selenium supplements, which he called the “holy grail of cancer prevention” (several medical reviews have said there’s no evidence it can stop cancer), Colby and Lenny note. In 2014, Oz agreed to testify before a Senate subcommittee on consumer protection, product safety and insurance. The hearing was on false advertising in the diet and weight-loss industry, and he spent a morning getting berated by senators.  The defense: “Oz and his defenders have said that his approach on the program was to give viewers hope and provide different points of view,” Colby and Lenny write. He has received some praise for raising awareness about preventive health, and did often include caveats to the treatments he highlighted. “On his show, Dr. Oz welcomed open, honest conversations and opinions from all kinds of folks,” per Brittany Yanick, a spokeswoman for the Oz campaign. “It’s idiotic and preposterous to imply that he shared the same beliefs and opinions as every guest on his show, or that having someone on his show constitutes a blanket endorsement of their beliefs.” More from Lenny: John Fetterman, the Democratic nominee for Pennsylvania’s open Senate seat, is targeting his rival’s work while hosting “The Dr. Oz Show.” His campaign has organized “Real Doctors Against Oz,” which consists of more than 100 physicians in the state. He’s not the first Republican politician with a medical degree to face backlash over issues that run counter to expert advice.  Sen. Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), while serving in the House, said he took hydroxychloroquine “prophylactically,” which former president Donald Trump promoted, though the FDA warned against using it to prevent covid-19, the Wall Street Journal reported.  Medical experts criticized Ben Carson and Paul for comments at a Republican debate during the 2016 presidential election, as the two candidates appeared to validate the push to further space out vaccines, CNN wrote at the time. Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.) said he had a complaint filed against him with a physicians board for prescribing ivermectin to treat the coronavirus, per the Baltimore Sun. The FDA has not authorized the use of ivermectin, which is usually used to treat some parasites in livestock and people, and has warned against using it to treat or prevent covid-19 infection.  HHS to announce new Title X grants for reproductive health care New this A.M.: The Department of Health and Human Services will announce over $6 million in new Title X grants and other funding to protect and expand access to reproductive health care, promote healthy behavior and reduce existing health disparities, according to the White House.  The announcement coincides with the second meeting of the administration’s Task Force on Reproductive Healthcare Access, which President Biden and Vice President Harris will attend today. The new dollars for the federal family planning program — which directs grants for birth control, reproductive health and preventive services for low-income people — comes after the Biden administration rolled back a contentious Trump-era policy that banned Title X providers from referring patients for abortions, among other restrictions.  Also … The Education Department is releasing new guidance reminding universities that Title IX requires institutions to protect their students from discrimination on the basis of pregnancy, including pregnancy termination.  Planned Parenthood to roll out first mobile abortion clinic Planned Parenthood announced yesterday that it will soon launch its first mobile abortion clinic in southern Illinois — a response to the growing number of women traveling to access abortion services.  In the months since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Illinois has become a hub for people from other parts of the Midwest and South where abortions have been largely restricted or banned — overwhelming local providers and racking up wait times for the procedure.  The details: The mobile clinic, which will be outfitted in a 37-foot RV, will serve patients along the southern Illinois border with the full slate of services typically provided by a brick-and-mortar Planned Parenthood. Initially, it will provide medication abortion up to 11 weeks gestation, but the organization said it plans to eventually provide surgical abortion as well, per a  news release. The mobile abortion clinic is expected to be on the road by the end of the year.  Planned Parenthood Advocates in St. Louis and Southwest Missouri:  100 days after the Supreme Court stripped us of our fundamental right to abortion, @PPSLR is expanding access to health care by opening a Mobile Abortion Clinic in southern Illinois & opening a health center in Rolla! https://t.co/w2M1aOvrgR — Planned Parenthood Advocates: STL & Southwest MO (@ppact_stl_swmo) October 3, 2022 Amylyx sets ALS drug price at $158k per year Amylyx Pharmaceuticals announced Friday that it had set the list price of its newly approved drug to slow the progression of ALS at $158,000 per year, although company officials said they expect most patients to pay less for the treatment, our colleague Laurie McGinley reports.   The drug, Relyvrio, was cleared by the Food and Drug Administration on Thursday, making it just the third ALS treatment to ever win the federal regulator’s approval. It will be available in the United States in about four to six weeks, according to the manufacturer.  The cost breakdown: For people with private insurance, Amylyx officials said the company will provide financial assistance to eliminate co-payments. The manufacturer also plans to make the drug available at no cost to uninsured individuals who meet certain eligibility criteria. The company said it is exploring ways to keep down out-of-pocket expenses for patients with government coverage like Medicare and Medicaid.  Some advocates quickly criticized the drug’s price tag as excessive. They point to a recent report by the Institute for Clinical and Economic Review, a nonprofit group that analyzes evidence on the effectiveness and value of drugs, who said a fair price would be $9,100 to $30,600 annually.  Flashback: The pricey cost of the ALS drug is reminiscent of the debate over an expensive new Alzheimer’s drug, which was originally priced at $56,000 per patient annually before the company slashed the price tag nearly in half.  The decision came after fierce criticism over the cost of the drug, with the CEO saying the price cut was meant to make the drug more available to consumers who couldn’t get it due to “financial considerations.” Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-N.J.): It’s great to see new drugs for ALS. But this is why we passed our bill to let Medicare negotiate drug prices. If companies can just name their price, even one breakthrough drug (for example for Alzheimer’s) could bankrupt the whole system. https://t.co/egbjMzTYAL — Tom Malinowski (@Malinowski) September 30, 2022 Vulnerable Democrats in competitive races are centering their closing pitches to voters on preserving abortion rights in the final weeks leading up to November’s midterm elections.  Katie Darling, a Democrat and business executive challenging House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), is out with a spot that documents the arrival of her son...

Schumer: Micron To Bring Microchip Plant To Upstate New York – The Associated Press – En Español https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/schumer-micron-to-bring-microchip-plant-to-upstate-new-york-the-associated-press-en-espanol/ NEW YORK (AP) — Micron, one of the world’s largest microchip manufacturers, is expected to open a semiconductor plant in New York, promising an investment of up to $100 billion and a plant that could bring 50,000 jobs to the state, the Senate’s top Democrat says. The announcement comes after Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer, of New York, had pushed Micron and the company’s CEO, Sanjay Mehrota, to consider upstate New York for its factory. It also comes months after Congress passed the $280 billion CHIPS and Science Act, which set aside $52 billion to bolster the semiconductor industry. Companies like Micron manufacture the diminutive chips that power everything from smartphones to computers to automobiles. The bill was aimed at bolstering U.S. competitiveness against China and avoiding another chip shortage like the one that derailed the auto and tech industries during the pandemic. Schumer confirmed to The Associated Press that Micron plans to bring its plant to the White Pine Commerce Park in Clay, New York, near Syracuse, after speaking with the company’s leaders. “Chips are essential to our economy, and if we were to lose the ability to manufacture chips here in the United States, it would be a severe, both economic security and national security risk,” Schumer said in an interview with The Associated Press. “This will be the most advanced memory chip manufacturing facility in the United States and probably the world. And, and it’s located in a place that will really benefit from it.” The company plans to invest $100 billion over the next 20 years, with the first investment of $20 billion planned by the end of the decade, Schumer said. The deal is also expected to bring more than 9,000 jobs to Micron and officials believe it could also bring close to 40,000 other ancillary jobs to the region, from suppliers to contractors, Schumer said. After signing the $280 billion bill last month, President Joe Biden touted the New York investment as proof that it was working. “Today is another win for America, and another massive new investment in America spurred by my economic plan,” Biden said. “Micron, an American company, is investing $20 billion dollars this decade and up to $100 billion over twenty years in CHIPS manufacturing in upstate New York, creating tens of thousands of good paying jobs. Together, we are building an economy from the bottom up and the middle out, where we lower costs for our families and make it right here in America.” Micron – based in Boise, Idaho – has several chip manufacturing plants around the world, including in Singapore and Taiwan. The company announced in September that it would invest $15 billion though the end of the decade on a new semiconductor plant in its hometown of Boise that the chipmaker said will create 17,000 American jobs. “This is like a 21st century Erie Canal,” Schumer said of the New York plant. “And just as the original Erie Canal did centuries ago, this will help cement the growth of our economy for decades to come, not only in upstate New York, but in the country, since these chips are so vital to so many of our cutting edge industries.” _______ Zeke Miller in Washington contributed.

Fourth Quarter Opens With A Bang, US Futures Jump Sharply – 69News WFMZ-TV https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/fourth-quarter-opens-with-a-bang-us-futures-jump-sharply-69news-wfmz-tv/ U.S. futures are sharply higher Tuesday, potentially extending a quarter-opening rally this week after a dismal September. Futures for the Dow Jones industrials jumped 1.3% and futures for the benchmark S&P 500 rose 1.6% following Monday’s 2.6% gain. The tech-heavy Nasdaq composite, which has been pummeled, lead the way with a 2% leap. Global shares also bounced back with European markets tracking gains in Asia and the U.S. Monday after some weak economic data raised hopes that the Federal Reserve might step back from its aggressive interest rate hikes. A report Monday on U.S. manufacturing came in weaker than expected, along with data showing a drop off in construction spending from July to August. It is hoped by many investors that the Federal Reserve might ease off on its aggressive interest rate hikes intended to beat down high inflation that has rattled businesses as well as families. By raising rates, the Fed is making it more expensive to buy a house, a car or most anything else on credit with the goal of slowing the economy just enough to starve inflation of the spending that has driven prices higher. The Fed has already pushed its key overnight interest rate to a range of 3% to 3.25%, up from virtually zero as recently as March. Most traders expect that to be more than a full percentage point higher by early next year. But stresses are building in financial markets and corporate profits have weakened as central banks around the world hike rates in concert. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 jumped 3.8% to 6,699.30 after its central bank boosted its benchmark interest rate for a sixth consecutive month to a nine-year high of 2.6%. The Reserve Bank of Australia’s increase of a quarter percentage point to the cash rate was smaller than those at recent monthly meetings. When the bank lifted the rate by a quarter percentage point at its board meeting in May, it was the first rate hike in more than 11 years. It’s now at its highest point since August 2013, when the bank cut the rate from 2.75% to 2.5%. Besides stocks, lower rates also boost prices for everything from cryptocurrencies to gold, which can suddenly look a bit more attractive when bonds are paying less in income. Elsewhere, Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 added nearly 3.0% to finish at 26,992.21. South Korea’s Kospi gained 2.5% to 2,209.98. Markets in Hong Kong and Shanghai were closed for holidays. At midday in Europe, France’s CAC 40 gained 3.4%, Germany’s DAX rose 2.9% and Britain’s FTSE 100 added 1.9%. The latest update on the U.S. jobs market, the labor turnover report, arrives Tuesday. The more consequential monthly jobs report is out Friday. . It will be the last jobs report before the Fed makes its next decision on interest rates, scheduled for Nov. 2. Continued strength would give the central bank more leeway to keep hiking. Traders say the likeliest move is a fourth straight increase of a whopping three-quarters of a percentage point, triple the usual move. In energy trading, benchmark U.S. crude added $1.16 to $84.79 a barrel. It jumped Monday amid speculation big oil-producing countries could soon announce cuts to production. Brent crude, the international standard, added $1.44 to $90.30 a barrel. In currency trading, the U.S. dollar was stable at 144.81 Japanese yen from. The euro cost 98.90 cents, up from 98.40 cents. Socio-Demographic Factors And Healthy Lifestyle Behaviours Among Malaysian Adults: National Health And Morbidity Survey 2019 | Scientific Reports – Nature.com https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/socio-demographic-factors-and-healthy-lifestyle-behaviours-among-malaysian-adults-national-health-and-morbidity-survey-2019-scientific-reports-nature-com/ Abstract This study aimed to investigate the association between socio-demographic factors and designated healthy lifestyle behaviours in a nationally-representative sample of Malaysian adults aged 18 years and above. Secondary data involving 7388 participants aged 18–96 years from the National Health and Morbidity Survey 2019, a national cross-sectional survey, was used in this study. A healthy lifestyle score (0–5 points) was calculated based on five modifiable lifestyle factors: non-smoker, body mass index  25 kg/m2, physically active, moderate (or less) alcohol intake, and daily consumption of ≥ 5 servings of fruits and vegetables. Associations between socio-demographic factors and healthy lifestyle behaviours were examined using multinomial logistic regression adjusted for sampling design. About 30.6% of the participants met at least four out of the five healthy lifestyle factors. In multinomial model, subjects who were female (aOR = 3.26, 95%CI = 2.58, 4.12), of Chinese (aOR = 2.31, 95%CI = 1.62, 3.30 or other ethnicity (aOR = 1.44, 95%CI = 1.05, 1.98), and aged 18–30 years (aOR = 1.74, 95% CI = 1.12, 2.71) showed significant association with achieving healthy lifestyle compared to male, Malay and ≥ 61 years old as reference categories. Our results indicated that gender, age and ethnicity associated with healthy lifestyle behaviours. Information on the influence of socio-demographic factors on the prevalence of healthy lifestyles will facilitate the development of effective intervention strategies to improve the adaptation of healthy lifestyle practices. Introduction Healthy lifestyle habits are important for preventing disease, improving health, and maintenance of overall well-being throughout one’s life1. In general, healthy lifestyle habits include adopting a healthy diet, abstaining from smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding harmful alcohol consumption, and being physically active. Leading a healthy lifestyle also reduces one’s risk of developing major chronic diseases. While the aforementioned modifiable lifestyle factors are individually associated with a decreased risk of major chronic diseases and a longer life expectancy, several studies have found that combined healthy lifestyle habits have a greater impact on increased life expectancy than on their own2. Other studies have also found that a combination of healthy lifestyle factors is associated with improved survival3 and reduced risk of major chronic diseases, such as coronary heart disease, stroke, heart failure and diabetes4,5,6. Adherence to a combination of five healthy lifestyle factors reduced mortality risk by 61%3. In previous studies among adults in China7,8 and cancer survivors9, researchers looked into the effects of combined healthy lifestyle factors in lowering overall and cause-specific mortality. Using measures of healthy lifestyle, including exercise, diet, sleep, alcohol consumption, and smoking, it found that 7.7% of adults reported practicing five healthy behaviours10. In another study using European Social Survey data observed that around 5.8% of European adults achieving all five healthy behaviours. Finland with 9.2% and United Kingdom with 8.6% were those the highest prevalence while Hungary with 1.3% and Czech Republic with 1.9% were the lowest prevalence of five healthy behaviours11. To date, there have been no studies conducted in Malaysia focusing on the effects of combined healthy lifestyle factors. There is also a lack of information on the prevalence of healthy lifestyle habits or practices among Malaysian adults. Numerous studies have established a link between the prevalence of adopting healthy lifestyle habits and socio-demographic factors. In Germany, it was found that healthy lifestyle habits differ according to socio-demographic characteristics such as age, sex and educational levels12. Other studies found that higher socioeconomic status was associated with combinations of healthy lifestyle habits, decreased risk of cardiovascular disease, and lower mortality rates13. Information on the influence of socio-demographic factors on the likelihood of leading a healthy lifestyle amongst the local population is important for public health policy development, as it identifies relevant target areas for appropriate individual- and population-level interventions. In Malaysia, there are no nationally-representative studies on the prevalence of healthy lifestyle behaviours and its socio-demographic correlates in adult populations. The purpose of this study, therefore, was to assess the prevalence of healthy lifestyle behaviours based on data from the National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS)—a nationwide health study in Malaysia—and to identify socio-demographic factors associated with leading a healthy lifestyle in a nationally-representative sample of Malaysian adults. Methods Data and participants This study utilized secondary data from NHMS 2019. The NHMS is a national survey coordinated by the Institute of Public Health, Ministry of Health Malaysia, and has been conducted annually since 2011. This study is a cross-sectional survey with the aims of determining Malaysians’ health status, monitoring disease trends, and assessing healthcare utilization in Malaysia. The NHMS 2019 employs a nationally representative sample of the non-institutionalised general population of Malaysians of all ages in Malaysia. This study employs two-stage stratified random sampling to ensure the resulting sample was representative of the country. The country’s population is stratified by urban and rural regions in each of the 16 states or federal territories, hence a total of 29 strata. The first stage involves systematic random sampling of Enumeration Blocks (EB) within each stratum. The second stage involves random sampling of twelve living quarters (LQ) within each selected EB. For the entire country of Malaysia, a total of 475 Enumeration Blocks (EB) were selected proportionate to the population size of each stratum. A total of 5676 LQs were selected from the selected EBs. Further details of the NHMS 2019 study have been described in the NHMS 2019 technical report14. Between July and October 2019, 14,965 participants were recruited (response rate of 87.2%). All participants signed an informed consent form. For the present study, participants under the age of 18 years were excluded (n = 4493), as the study’s focus was on the adult population. Respondents with missing socio-demographic data and healthy lifestyle data were excluded (n = 3084). After these exclusions, 7388 respondents were included in the present analyses. Assessment of lifestyle factors and socio-demographic variables Body weight, height and body mass index (BMI) were determined. Body weight was measured in kilograms using a digital weighing machine (TANITA HD-319) and the height in centimetres was measured using SECA Stadiometer 213. The BMI was computed by dividing weight in kilograms by the squared height in metres. BMI was then classified according to the WHO BMI guidelines: ( 25 kg/m2 as underweight to normal weight, ≥ 25 kg/m2 as overweight or obese)15. Four questions were used to assess fruit and vegetable consumption: (1) “In a typical week, how many days did you consume fruits?” (2) “Usually on the day you eat fruits, how many servings of fruits did you eat in a day?” (3) “In a typical week, how many days did you eat vegetables?” (4) “Usually on the day you eat vegetable, how many servings of vegetables did you eat in a day?” Food photographs were used to assist respondents in recalling the serving size of fruits and vegetables consumed. The photographs depicted a single serving of commonly consumed fruits and vegetables, including one slice of watermelon, one medium-sized orange, one cup of chopped raw leafy green vegetables and a half cup of other vegetables, cooked or chopped raw such as carrot. The total number of servings of fruits and vegetables consumed per day was calculated using responses to these four questions. Data from the first two questions were used to estimate respondents’ fruits intake. Another two questions were used to estimate respondents’ vegetable intake. The number of days in a week was multiplied by number of servings to estimate the number of servings per week that respondents consumed. Responses for the past 7-day questions were then divided by 7 to determine daily intake. The number of servings/day for fruits and vegetable intake were summed to estimate the servings of fruits and vegetables intake. The range of score was 0 to 12 servings/day. Based on the Malaysian Dietary Guidelines, consumption of ≥ 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day was defined as adequate while consumption of  5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day was defined as inadequate16. The validated short version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) was used to assess levels of physical activity17. The IPAQ short form was developed to estimate overall physical activity levels through the assessment of three specific types of physical activity (low, moderate and vigorous-intensity activities) across a broad range of domains (home, at work, sitting, moderate leisure, vigorous leisure, transportation and other activities). Physical activity was quantified in terms of metabolic equivalents (MET minutes, or METs)18. The minutes and days of a week spent on low, moderate, and vigorous intensity activities were multiplied by 3.3, 4.0 and 8.0 respectively, to compute MET scores for each activity. The total physical activity score was calculated as the sum of all MET scor...

Impact Metaverse Could Complement Educational Processes – Educaweb.com – World Nation News https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/impact-metaverse-could-complement-educational-processes-educaweb-com-world-nation-news/ Marc Cortes is the Director of ESADE’s Executive Master Digital Business. He is also a consultant specializing in digital transformation processes and business development. He recently prepared a report Analysis and reflection on the potential impact of the metaverse in the educational fieldPublished by the Open University of Catalonia (UOC). For more than 20 years he has been an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Marketing at ESADE, specializing in marketing issues and new digital business models. His teaching experience extends as a visiting professor to UC Berkeley Extension (San Francisco) and Universidad del Pacifico (Lima, Peru). He has previously been a consultant on Digital Marketing at UOC. Similarly, Cortes is an expert advisor helping managers and companies design and execute the digital transformation of companies. In his professional career in digitization, he has been a Digital Strategy Consultant at Accenture; Member of the Digital Business Area of CaixaBank, an entity whose digital (and cultural) transformation he has participated in for 9 years. What exactly is the metaverse? How do you define it? The first difficulties appear when we are faced with the challenge of defining the metaverse, basically because defining means identifying which elements are part of the concept and, above all, which are not. And the present moment is like when in the 90s we tried to define what the Internet was, a challenge as it is a concept in constant development and creation. From my point of view, many current definitions of the metaverse are partial because they focus on one of the elements that make up it, such as technology. As such, one of the most commonly used definitions (and the one I use in my article Analysis and reflection on the potential impact of the metaverse in the educational fieldpublished by the UOC in January 2022) is what it defines as “the virtual environment in which humans interact socially and economically with avatars through physical devices (glasses or sensors) and which use the metaphor of the real world. represents, but without physical limits”. This definition includes what are to me the most relevant elements of the metaverse, such as the fact that it is a virtual environment that is based on human interactions, without limitations, meaning the ability to move and which is metaphorical to the real world. represents (as opposed to the virtual world). associated with video games). It remains to be clarified whether the metaverse will include the use of virtual reality technical equipment, and thus the use of avatars. We have examples of environments that meet functional and conceptual characteristics without using these immersive techniques (eg decentralizedFor example), and defining the metaverse only by this technique can limit us at the present time of its creation. What can the Metaverse contribute to education? can you improve it? Why? Undoubtedly the answer can only be yes that such development can improve education. Basically because it expands its boundaries and possibilities. Technology has always allowed sectors and areas of activity to evolve; And not because of the technology’s own characteristics but because of the uses they allow. In the case of education, we have seen how technology has become the first tool to complement more traditional education. This is from the point of view of complementary management (managing student data, storing information or distributing materials), and from the point of view of tools used in educational processes (simulators). In the second phase, technology itself has become an educational environment. During the pandemic we have seen how we replaced face-to-face classes with classes via videoconferencing environments (with limitations and difficulties, but which allowed a replacement process). And this change has generated new training experiences. Features of the metaverse, now yes, for example, focused on immersive environments, make it possible to improve training environments and experiences, which allow us to identify what can, for the time being, complement educational processes . How can it be used for educational purposes (please give one or two examples)? We can imagine different uses, but to get down to the concrete I’ll put some examples (already in operation) that allow us to see the difference element they provide: Accessing “impossible” material in a traditional classroom: In educational environments involving medicine, there are already solutions based on the metaverse that allow the student to be “inside” the human body and to be able to see with virtual reality how specific processes start (diseases.. .). Access to extreme places: Solutions have been developed that allow us to explore the ocean floor, its fauna and ecosystem reproduction as if we were physically located there. change high-risk experiences: Emergency Corps already do simulations with simulations of reality and situations preceding high-risk events (fires or terrorist attacks), but without the risk it would mean to actually live these events. “I think the potential of the Metaverse lies in seeing it as a complement to educational processes, which allows us to respond to issues such as access to content and environments in which immersion offers great value.” Is the metaverse already being used in education? Can you explain some real examples? We currently have various initiatives related to Metaverse which, in the exploratory phase, are analyzing what would be the best way to use it and furthermore, for the learning process of its main challenges and difficulties in its implementation. Grow. at the secondary school level, Optima Classical Academy (Naples, Florida, United States) has designed a training program for third to eighth graders that seeks to replace the use of platforms such as Zoom and begin using a proprietary platform developed in virtual reality. at the university level, Chinese University of Hong Kong Created the first Metaverse prototype. through the use of technology Unity has reproduced the physical structure of the university in the Metaverse (2021), so that students can simulate what is done on a physical campus, but in a virtual reality environment. Another example is the Stanford University initiative, through Virtual Human Interaction LabDeveloped the first academic material in subject format, virtual people, This topic is developed in a metaverse environment (virtual reality) and attempts to analyze how to generate attention from participants in educational environments other than face-to-face. Finally, and already in our country, ESADE recently launched its complex in the Metaverse. It is a solution in a tested environment (requires an invitation to access it), which seeks to simulate a physical campus in a virtual environment (classrooms, work rooms, cafeterias, leisure spaces), so that program participants executive Education Know the potential of these types of solutions and how they can affect them in their own areas of activities and companies. What challenges will the metaverse face to be widely implemented in education? in the report Analysis and reflection on the potential impact of the metaverse in the educational field (published by UOC in January 2022) We have identified 4 axes of the potential impact of the metaverse in the educational environment and 14 lines of work that summarize the challenges faced for implementing this technology in education. Axis 1: Impact on Learning Models and Processes 1. Transition of Content and Environment: Face-to-Face – Online – Immersive 2. Enhancing the Quality of Learning: Personalization and Adaptation to the Student’s Rhythm 3. Take advantage of the new possibilities virtual worlds offer and those that have already been proven 4. From Efficient Methodology to Simplification 5. Reach a greater volume of students Axis 2: Optimize educational supply and demand 6. The Difference Between a Training Offer and a Talent Demand 7. The Challenge of Accessibility: Digital and the Generational Gap Axis 3: Reshape the roles (infrastructure) of participants in the educational process 8. Redesign of the Educational Environment 9. Change of Role of Student and Teacher 10. Figure out new ways to get attention 11. Addressing the Challenges Involved for Evaluation and Monitoring Axis 4: Model based on ecosystem 12. New participants in the educational process 13. Formulation of Standards 14. Interoperability, Blockchain (blockchain) y nft (non-fungible token, What are the risks involved in implementing the metaverse in education and how can they be mitigated? Certainly we can identify risks or challenges with other technologies. Beyond those identified in the previous question, basically we can say that the risks have to do with: lit up: Like any technology, it has an access cost (purchasing equipment, learning to use them…) that must be attempted by trying to bridge the economic gap and promoting its use through training programs. evolve: Due to the very nature of the solution, the metaverse consists of developing materials and environments. This would mean seeking and creating linkages between the educational environment and other areas (technologies, for example) to facilitate economic investment, on the one hand, and its development, on the other. Does online training have more room in the Metaverse than face-to-face training? Why? It will depend on the use in which it is placed. The technology underlying the metaverse can be viewed, as we have already described, as a tool or as a new educational environment. In any case, I think the potential of the Metaverse lies in seeing it as a complement to educational processes...

The office was established in 2020, and its design revealed by the head of PlayStation Studios Malaysia, Hasnul Hadi, recently sparked a discussion. The entrance alone is enough to amaze us without walking into the office. It sets the theme by following a futuristic vibe, with the iconic PlayStation symbols on the side. To enter the office, employees must go through the keycard authenticator where they’ll see an illuminating PlayStation logo. After entering, a huge LCD screen displaying a PlayStation Studios Malaysia logo can get found in the office lobby. Besides that, the pantry and the common area are also well-designed. Although it’s dark, we can see that the working spaces are equally cool. Good night everyone , see you tomorrow pic.twitter.com/pnZy02PLFp — Hasnul Hadi (@mistahasnul) October 3, 2022 Not only posting the office’s images, but Hasnul also took the chance to thank his colleagues for making all this possible. With the recent introduction of yield farming on the Binance Smart Chain, many users are wondering which platform offers the best return on investment. While Pancakeswap and Spookyswap are both popular options, Oryen is quickly becoming the go-to choice for yield farmers. Offering a fixed APY of 90%, Oryen significantly outperforms both Pancakeswap and Spookyswap, which offer APYs of around 10-20%. Additionally, Oryen offers a more hassle-free investing process for its investors than either of its competitors, making it a better idea overall. What is Oryen (ORY)? Oryen Network is a crypto-staking network that offers a juicy APY of 90% on ORY coins. ORY provides users with other utilities like risk-free lotteries (to be introduced soon) in addition to the platform’s super-simple auto-staking protocol. To do this, Oryen employs a “rebase” approach, which means that the token’s circulating supply will rise in line with the treasury in order to guarantee both the token’s price and the interest rate.  The rebase tokens aren’t generated at random. They have a risk-free value that is funded by the “buy and sell” tax on the token. The buyer pays an 8% royalty, or “tax,” while the seller pays a 12% royalty, or “tax.” The treasury also carries additional equity to keep the floor in place in the event of a severe price decline. But the best thing about Oryen is that its holders don’t have to do anything to get their money. Simply purchase and keep ORY in your wallet. Tokens are automatically staked, and rebase rewards are automatically airdropped back into the wallet of the holder. Final thoughts Oryen is now launching a three-round pre-launch ICO with a token price of $0.05 + bonus tokens. The incentive percentage lowers at the end of each month to entice early birds. Oryen will go live on December 30, 2022. This is one ICO that we are confident will sell out. The U.S. Is Considering Its Very First Over-The-Counter Birth Control Pill Fortune
The U.S. Is Considering Its Very First Over-The-Counter Birth Control Pill Fortune
The U.S. Is Considering Its Very First Over-The-Counter Birth Control Pill – Fortune https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/the-u-s-is-considering-its-very-first-over-the-counter-birth-control-pill-fortune/ At a time when access to contraception for American women is under political threat, two U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory committees have decided to consider an application to allow the sale of oral contraceptive pills over the counter. The advisory committees will meet in November, the Financial Times reports, to consider the application submitted by HRA-pharma, a Paris-based pharmaceutical company owned by the Perrigo Company, to make their progesterone-only mini-pill available in the U.S. without a prescription. Hormone-based pills have been the most common form of birth control in the U.S. since the 1960s, but they have always required a prescription so that health professionals can screen for medical conditions that could make their use risky. The FDA is also in discussion with Cadence Health, according to the FT, over how it plans to sell the contraceptive pill in pharmacies. Any decision made by the FDA will be put under a fierce political spotlight at a time when abortion and contraception rights have come under threat in the U.S. When the Supreme Court announced its decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, Justice Clarence Thomas suggested in a concurring opinion that the Court “should reconsider” its past Griswold v. Connecticut ruling, which codified rights to contraception access. The FDA came under similar scrutiny when it loosened access to abortion pills in February—a move which was condemned by abortion opponents and praised by women’s rights advocates—and approved the over-the-counter emergency contraception Plan B in 2006. “I don’t think it [birth control] is the next target. I think it is already a target,” Dana Singiser, founder of Contraceptive Access Initiative, told the FT. Singiser’s group is lobbying for over-the-counter access to birth control. Who is on board? In 2011, more than 3 million U.S. pregnancies—almost 45% of the total—were unintended, which means they were either unwanted to mistimed. The American Medical Association, as well as the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, have urged the FDA to remove the prescription access barrier to contraception, arguing it would decrease the number of unwanted pregnancies.   AMA Board Member David H. Aizuss wrote in a statement that “access is one of the most cited reasons why patients do not use oral contraceptives, use them inconsistently, or discontinue use.” He added that, “expanding [over the counter] access would make it easier for patients to properly use oral contraceptives, leading to fewer unplanned pregnancies.” In March, more than 50 Democratic lawmakers from the Pro-Choice Caucus wrote to the FDA urging the agency to make the pills more readily available. “We urge FDA to review applications for over-the-counter birth control pills without delay and based solely on the data,” the House’s Pro-Choice Caucus said in the March letter. Selling birth control pills over the counter would make contraception more accessible to those without regular access to healthcare providers, such as the uninsured, those who live in rural areas, and young people on parental insurance who may not want their parents to know they are using birth control. And while this is the first time a U.S. agency is considering making the pill available over the counter, around the world more than 100 countries currently provide the pill without a prescription. …and who isn’t? In July, an attempt by Senate Democrats to pass a bill to enshrine conception access into federal law was blocked by Republican lawmakers. Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) noted at the time that the bill “purposefully goes far beyond the scope of contraception” arguing it could fund abortion providers and protect abortion-inducing drugs. Ernst now seeks to pass her own bill that would expedite over-the-counter access to birth control, without codifying access to the pill in all states. There are also fears over the medical risks of oral-contraceptive birth control. Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America told the FT that she has “tremendous concerns” about giving the drugs to children without adult involvement, particularly given the potential for side effects. “It’s wise to have medically supervised distribution of such drugs so that women survive their exposure to them,” she said. But advocates of the HRA’s “mini-pill”, or progestin-only pill, note that the pill has fewer safety concerns than its substitutes. The pill contains a single synthetic hormone, progestin, which prevents pregnancy by blocking sperm from the cervix, rather than a combined pill including estrogen which has a higher risk of causing blood clots. The HRA notes that it has gone through lengthy trials as part of a seven-year pre-application process for over-the-counter access. “The pill has been on the market for 60 years, women know how to use it, they know that it’s basically safe to use. So it makes sense that the pill is also offered as a choice to be available over the counter without prescription,” said Frédérique Welgryn, HRA’s chief strategic operations, and innovation officer. Candidates For Texas Governor Stump For Votes And Evaluate Their Debate Performances – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/candidates-for-texas-governor-stump-for-votes-and-evaluate-their-debate-performances-nbc-5-dallas-fort-worth/ Days after the only gubernatorial debate in Edinburg in the Rio Grande Valley, the candidates for Texas governor were on the road trying to get Texans to the polls and evaluating their performance with three weeks until early voting begins. Democratic candidate for governor Beto O’Rourke is focusing on the younger vote. He brought his college tour to the University of North Texas in Denton, and Dallas College El Centro Campus. O’Rourke remains about 8 points back in an average of polls from RealClearPolitics.  BETO O’ROURKE DEBATE ASSESSMENT We asked O’Rourke what he needs to do to move the needle. “You saw that during the debate, we remind every Texan that Greg Abbott has been governor for nearly eight years now. So when you see inflation, higher property taxes, a total abortion ban, 19 weeks and counting since Uvalde and nothing has been done to reduce gun violence in our schools, or gun violence as the leading cause of death for our kids, voters are going to realize we need change,” said O’Rourke. GOV. GREG ABBOTT DEBATE ASSESSMENT Local The latest news from around North Texas. Governor Abbott remained in the Rio Grande Valley Saturday. He knocked on doors and talked with voters. He is looking for his third term, facing his toughest opponent yet. Governor Abbott says the debate went the way he wanted it to. “We were able to expose Beto for all the lies and all the flip flops he has been telling throughout the entire campaign. He cannot be straight with voters, he cannot be honest with voters, he keeps changing his positions and it shows that you just cannot count on what he stands for,” said Governor Abbott. It will be a busy month for both candidates, as they continue to travel the state. Early Voting begins October 24 and runs through November 4. Deadline Today to Register to Vote in November Election is Oct. 11 The last day to register to vote in the upcoming Nov. 2 election is Tuesday, Oct. 11. Unregistered people who wish to vote will need to have completed their registration by Tuesday, Oct. 11. There are a number of ways to register to vote in Texas: On the Texas Secretary of State’s online voter registration page, you can fill out and then print and sign your registration form. You MUST still mail the form to your county election office and it must be postmarked by the April 1 deadline. Peterson Reports A Positive 2021 Financial Performance – Aberdeen Business News – Aberdeen Business News https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/peterson-reports-a-positive-2021-financial-performance-aberdeen-business-news-aberdeen-business-news/ LEADING international energy logistics company, Peterson Energy Logistics (Peterson), part of the Royal Peterson and Control Union Group, today announced its consolidated results for the 12 months ending 31st December 2021. Peterson reported revenue of £249.3m for the year, and £1.8m operating profit, compared to a breakeven result in 2020. The company announced it is positioned to deliver improved financial performance again in 2022 as demand for its energy logistics services continues to increase. Overall, 2021 saw a significant increase in activity as the energy sector emerged from the confines of the COVID-19 pandemic. Quayside tonnages and fuel sales increased significantly in 2021 helping the organisation to continue its improving underlying financial performance. During the year, the company segmented its UK operations into eight new operating entities to better focus the management and delivery of services to its broad UK customer base. At the start of 2022, Peterson appointed Sarah Moore as CEO and established a new leadership team responsible for daily operations and the strategic direction of the business. Commenting on the group’s performance Sarah Moore, CEO of Peterson, said: “We’re pleased to report a significantly improved financial result in 2021, as we reflect on our collective achievements throughout the year.  “Our focus remains on delivering industry-leading logistics solutions to support our clients’ operations with safety, innovation, and efficiency at the core of our service offering. “The leadership team is driving substantial improvements across all aspects of our business, in particular our safety culture and ambitious environmental targets as we strive to meet the expectations of our ‘Goal Zero’ programme. We also work collaboratively with our existing customers to embrace the challenges of energy transition. We continue to make strategic investments, secure opportunities in the renewables sector and target diversification as we grow the business and strengthen the Peterson brand.  “We are proud of the efforts of all our people and thank them for their collective efforts in safely delivering our services and helping us achieve a positive result in 2021.”  Peterson continues to significantly invest in enhancements to its Lighthouse suite of digital applications and other supporting technologies. Part of its renewables strategy saw the company form a joint venture with Coast Renewable Services to establish Coast Offshore which will provide integrated services to the offshore wind sector. Peterson also expanded into Australia opening an office in Perth in line with the company’s strategic growth plans. The company was later announced by Kimberley Marine Support Base Pty Ltd (KMSB) as the operator of the Kimberley Marine Offloading Facility in Broome, Western Australia. The $AUD160 million facility will provide new supply chain options to numerous industries, offer lower movement costs, reduce carbon emission options, and minimise risks through shorter distances to offshore oil and gas operations. Once the facility is built operations are set to begin in 2024. Peterson has a robust sustainability road map and is set to achieve carbon-neutral status across all 27 sites in seven countries under the PAS2060 accreditation scheme at the end of 2022. Through the implementation of various initiatives so far, Peterson has seen a 42% reduction in total emissions, and remains on track to reach net zero operations by 2025. The company is committed to playing its role in the energy transition, supporting clients with their sustainability targets, and reducing emissions in supply chains. Some of Peterson’s initiatives include the use of a blend of electric and HVO-powered forklifts, the use of environmentally friendly fuels in cranes and trucks, utilising wind, turbine and solar power to operate facilities and the use of advanced technologies to achieve optimal planning in the supply chain to minimise the movement of goods across locations. A new staff initiative has also been introduced as part of Peterson’s net zero framework by joining the Pawprint pioneer programme – an online tool and app, which allow users to measure, understand and reduce their carbon footprint. Sustainability is integrated into Peterson’s social responsibility (CSR) programme, ‘Dare to Care’, and is based on four robust sustainability pillars: customers, employees, environment, and community. Each pillar represents a social aspect of the company it aims to uphold to demonstrate a positive role in the communities and wider society it operates in. Peterson is part of the wider family-owned Royal Peterson and Control Union Group, which has a presence in more than 70 countries and over 100 years of experience in logistics, quality, certifications, and risk management. The group’s services cover all aspects of the supply chain across many industries including agriculture, energy, forestry, sustainability, and textiles.

The 10 Best And Worst Gadgets In James Bond Movies We Got This Covered
The 10 Best And Worst Gadgets In James Bond Movies We Got This Covered
The 10 Best And Worst Gadgets In James Bond Movies – We Got This Covered https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/the-10-best-and-worst-gadgets-in-james-bond-movies-we-got-this-covered/ Image via Eon Productions To celebrate 60 years of James Bond movies, Amazon is adding the entire back catalog of 25 action-packed outings of agent 007 to its Prime Video service across various territories, from the Sean Connery beginnings all the way through to the modern Daniel Craig era.  Albeit a little more sparse in recent outings, one recurring focal point across the many years of Bond films has been the sheer assortment of gadgets the various Bond actors have been outfitted with.  There has always been consistent staples in Bond’s arsenal, with the likes of his always cutting edge and high tech watches and cars, but as we prepare to binge our way through hours upon hours of spy movies, we’ve put together ten of the best and worst unique gadgets seen in the franchise over the years, regardless of whether Bond has been on the giving or receiving end of use.  1. Best: Briefcase (From Russia with Love) Image via Eon Productions A simple and elegant design which most passers by wouldn’t take a second look at, this businessperson’s staple is packed to the brim, at least figuratively, with a whole host of lethal and handy tools for your average special agent. Its contents include an AR-7 rifle with concealed ammo and an easily accessible throwing knife, fifty gold sovereigns, and just for good measure, a nasty tear gas surprise for those nosy types who attempt to open the briefcase without following proper procedure. 2. Worst: Cigarette gun (You Only Live Twice) Image via Eon Productions This could simultaneously fall in the ‘so bad it’s good’ category, but smokers around the world can attest to the feeling of dry mouth they get from a cigarette. Imagine how it would feel to shoot a bullet out of your mouth – would you even have salivary glands left, let alone teeth? Sure, regardless of the implications on your oral health – you may be left wanting for one in the stereotypical situation of facing down a firing squad, but still, we’ll pass on this one.  3. Best: Jetpack (Thunderball) It’s goofy, it’s dated, and Sean Connery looks like a numpty in that helmet. Yes to all of the above. However, there’s just a certain universal appeal about donning a jetpack to make a quick getaway, or, to the general public, a cruisy way to get from point A to point B while dodging peak hour traffic. There’s a good reason many Grand Theft Auto players still have the cheat code to acquire a jetpack firmly embedded in their brains.  4. Worst: Laser Polaroid (Licence to Kill) Image via Eon Productions In the same film that featured an equally ridiculous exploding alarm clock, we also saw this silly thing. On the surface, a regular old Polaroid camera. Point it, shoot it, and it instantly spits out a photograph. Give it a few shakes and it’s ready to stick on the fridge. Though in the case of this particular hoodwinking camera, its point, shoot, and murder your subject with a high-powered laser. It’s just goofy – and not in a particularly memorable way either. 5. Best: Dagger shoes (From Russia with Love) Image via Eon Productions These give would-be assassins quite the edge in hand to hand combat. The idea of the tables being fatally turned by an unexpected shin kick from these poison-tipped puppies is pretty high-stakes, and grim. Their debut in From Russia with Love looks rather clunky for its time, but their appearance would go on to inspire appearances in films outside of the Bond franchise, most notably in fan-favorite Batman flick The Dark Knight.  6. Worst: Mini scuba tank (Thunderball) Image via Eon Productions Although similar technology does now exist in real life, and this gadget came in handy for Bond in a pinch, it still seems particularly far-fetched that this stick about the same size as an icy pole can provide its user with four minutes of air. The mere fact that Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace took inspiration from this gadget meant that this little device was perhaps a little too space-age for a spy movie with a more modern, albeit technologically advanced setting. Then again, we had high praise for the jetpack that appeared in the same movie, so who are we to judge? 7. Best: Pen grenade (Goldeneye) Image via Eon Productions This thing is simply cool. Three clicks to activate its explosive power, and another three clicks if you change your mind. All housed in an inconspicuous writing utensil. It certainly manages to get Bond out of a pinch in an absolute nail-biter of a scene, during which a captive Bond carefully watches a nervous Grishenko click away at it, who is completely clueless of the explosive power. In what was very much a 50/50 gamble, Bond manages to knock the pen out of Grishenko’s hand, causing an explosion and creating enough of a distraction to make his escape. 8. Worst: Sony Ericsson Phones (Brosnan era onwards) Image via Eon Productions Sure, some of the features in these otherwise innocuous cellphones prove to be quite handy for the budding spy, particularly in the Brosnan era, in which they contained fingerprint analyzers and lock picks. Though by the time the brand was still getting plugged in the Craig era, it was pretty much a standard issue Sony Ericsson device with a fancy camera. The simple act of placing the brand has dated the films quite quickly, considering one flagship iOS or Android device today has enough computing power to blow several of these out of the water. 9. Best: Walther PPK (Skyfall) Image via Eon Productions At face value, the Walther PPK seen in Skyfall is a fairly ordinary handgun. What sets it apart is a pretty interesting biometric feature, in that it will only fire when it detects Bond’s palms wrapped around it. There’s been many an action movie where a singular gun trades hands multiple times over the course over a close-quarters struggle, which can be titillating, but this feature would ultimately leave any would-be villain short of the mark when they realize this gun only answers to one decision maker.  10. Worst: Alligator submarine (Octopussy) Image via Eon Productions Another which one could argue into the ‘so bad it’s good’ camp, but come on – seriously? I think the image says most of what needs to be said about why this one is just a little too far on the silly end of the spectrum.

How Can You Play At A Crypto Casino? – The Olive Press https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/how-can-you-play-at-a-crypto-casino-the-olive-press/ If you haven’t just returned from Mars on a 17-year journey, you’ve certainly read or heard, at least one thing, about cryptocurrencies and the huge momentum they’ve added to the non GamStop casinos, like on gamblingpro.pro. What you may not realize and doubt very much (although it is a proven fact) is that during the past 17 years of the Bitcoin revolution there have been a lot of empires and fortunes built on this digital asset. Perhaps the biggest development in Bitcoin history so far is that El Salvador has come to support it and consider it an alternative to foreign exchange reserves, and more countries may soon follow suit. There are three categories of non GamStop casinos, namely: Casinos that support cryptocurrency only. Casinos that do not support encrypted digital currencies, and accept only fiat currencies. Casinos that support both cryptocurrency and fiat currencies. In this article we will explain to you how to use cryptocurrency to deposit/ withdraw from online casinos. Moreover, we will learn about the most important features that crypto casinos also have. What Are the Features of the Best Crypto Casinos Without GamStop? For regular players, the comparison between regular and crypto casinos may be limited to the currencies available for use. However, this is absolutely not true! It is safe to say that crypto casinos differ in every aspect from regular casinos. The number one advantage that crypto casinos have is the usability of Bitcoin and its digital cousins ??to process your deposits and withdrawals. It is also possible that the player is allowed to use one of the fiat currencies. However, note that all online casinos require players to use the same deposit method to withdraw winnings. Using Bitcoin comes with another excellent feature which are bonuses and promotions as they tend to be more generous and bigger than the bonuses offered by regular casinos. On the other hand, crypto casinos without GameStop offer an innovative selection of games that are usually not available in regular casinos. Deposits and Withdrawals – In general, players can conduct their transactions using a wide range of e-wallets and crypto gateways. Bonuses and Promotions – Imagine that you deposited 1 Bitcoin and got 100%, do you know what the total value will be with you now? It’s the equivalent of $21,200! This is an immense amount and incredibly more than what you can get from the best regular casinos. Games Selection – Besides the usual selection of slots, table games and card games, Bitcoin casinos tend to be innovative in their selection and offer their customers an innovative selection of games. Customer Service – Certainly the use of cryptocurrencies has indomitable benefits and features, but sometimes you may have questions about the process. This is where the excellent support section comes into play. This is exactly what you will get at the best online crypto casinos. How to Use Cryptocurrencies at Casinos Not on GamStop? Are you ready for your adventure to gamble with bitcoin? Then, of course, bitcoins have to be bought first! You can buy your cryptocurrencies through crypto wallets.  There are a number of well-known crypto wallets, such as Binance, Coinbase, Exodus, MetaMask, and Ledger Nano X. After you have downloaded this app on your smartphone or computer, you can put money into your account via credit card, web wallet, bank transfer, or in another way. After you have done this, you can purchase bitcoin or any other altcoin. The Resemblance/ Difference Between Cryptocurrency and Gambling Because the prices of bitcoins have risen in value over the long term so far, this can be a very interesting business to invest in and then add more value to it in the casino – although of course it remains a gamble. In addition, the prices of the crypto coins are anything but stable due to the immature market: the risk on bitcoins is quite high and it can therefore also be the case that the price drops very quickly in no time. In that regard, buying crypto is quite a gamble. The fall or rise in value of cryptocurrency is influenced by all kinds of external factors over which you have no influence. Think of regulations, the development of the currency, external financing (remember Elon Musk who bought a lot of bitcoin in a short time and then sold it again freely?), influencers (again we think of Elon Musk who widely promoted Dogecoin) and of course authorities who act on it. In that respect, you could compare it to a game of blackjack or poker – you have good cards in your hand, but external factors (the dealer, the hands of everyone else at the table) can greatly influence your hand. However, in addition to the similarities, there are also differences. Because so many external forces influence the price of cryptocurrency, consumers can also anticipate this well. However, when you play casino game only the luck factor can affect your result. After all, when you play bet on roulette or slot at non GamStop casinos, the ‘luck’ factor is much greater than when trading cryptocurrency. We would therefore rather compare buying crypto with investing in shares. The crypto wallet is the stock market in miniature. Is Gambling in Non GamStop Casinos Different From Crypto Casinos? Gambling in a bitcoin casino is largely similar to gambling in a regular online casino. Apparently it offers the same advantages and disadvantages compared to the land-based casino: it is more anonymous, you can do it from home, the game runs very smoothly and there are many players active. On the other hand, you also have to deal with the fact that there is no supervision and the casino is open 24/7, so if you are prone to addiction that is disadvantageous. The range of games that you can play is also the same and the crypto casinos work with the exact same software suppliers as the regular online casinos, such as Evolution Gaming and NetEnt. Actually, only the payment method is different, but nothing else. However, it also offers additional advantages and disadvantages. The biggest advantage for the user is that he can make transactions completely anonymously. So if a player has a ban from GamStop, this can offer a solution. The financial authorities won’t find you anyway. In addition, the transactions are very fast, because again there is no bank between you and the casino.
