Is NFT Utility A Challenge? Learn How Cocky Is Setting New Standards – Cryptonews https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/is-nft-utility-a-challenge-learn-how-cocky-is-setting-new-standards-cryptonews/ Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) continue to attract special attention within the cryptocurrency sector, even though the initial hype surrounding them has subsided a little, and even though crypto continues to suffer its way through a bear market. After Collins Dictionary made non-fungible token its word of the year in 2021, the burgeoning NFT sub-sector continues to grow steadily, with trading volume still topping half a billion dollars per month. However, while NFTs still manage to sell for large sums, finding a genuine real-world use case for non-fungible tokens remains something of a conundrum. Musicians and bands have released albums in conjunction with limited-edition NFTs, while names such as Bored Ape Yacht Club are branching out into new areas, yet it’s arguable that non-fungible tokens have yet to find a ‘killer app’ that provides actual utility to their holders. This is a valid criticism, but it’s one that may not remain valid for much longer. Significant players within the music and gaming industries, for instance, are convinced that NFTs have a meaningful future within their sectors, and there’s one new player within the music and entertainment that serves as a good example of this. This is Cocky, a self-styled “lifestyle club” that uses NFTs to offer access to a variety of music events, both in-person and in virtual reality. By linking non-fungible tokens to the attendance of actual events, Cocky anchors them in the real world, ensuring that they will have value insofar as they refer to something other than themselves. What is Cocky and How Is It Linking NFTs to Music Events? Launched only a few months ago, Cocky aims to use NFTs in a variety of interesting ways in the context of live (and virtual) music events. At its most simple, Cocky will issue a collection of 10,000 NFTs based on the Ethereum blockchain. These NFTs will take the form of “visually stunning” cans (i.e. soft drink cans), as picture below. According to Cocky’s website, these cans will be based around 51 skin variations, which alter their basic designs and styles. Where things get interesting, however, is that these NFT-based cans will alter depending on the Cocky events holders attend. For instance, the cans will have one of three possible lids (black, silver and gold), which vary according to the user’s tier and which provide the holder with unique benefits at Cocky events. These lids are randomly assigned to NFTs, providing their holders with such perks as accommodation, subsidized transport and bar tabs. More interestingly, a user’s NFT receives ‘passport stamps’ when attending new events. The more events they attend, the more their can mutates, increasing its rarity and potentially increasing its value on the second-hand market. The combination of these mutations and randomly assigned lids/tiers will likely make buying Cocky NFTs on the secondary market more desirable to traders, since ownership would confer future benefits on holders, as well as enabling attendance of events. This is precisely where utility enters the picture, since holding a Cocky will become useful and valuable to its holder, enabling them to enjoy real-world experiences and obtain special VIP benefits while doing so. As for these experiences, Cocky’s website and Twitter reveal that these will be (at least for now) “world-class” electronic music events. It plans to stage anything from two to four in-person festivals or events each year, as well as more regular virtual events. With the virtual events, they will be streamed by Cocky on its own platform, whereas the physical events will take place at “spectacular locations across the globe.” None of these locations have been revealed yet, but Cocky is certainly promising big things by using the word “spectacular.” The Roadmap and Pre-Mint Sale Helpfully, Cocky has released its roadmap on its website, revealing that it will release the location — as well as open registration — for its first event in the final quarter of this year. This first event will then take place in the opening quarter of 2023, attendance of which will confer mutations onto the NFTs held by participants. As for actually obtaining Cocky’s NFTs in the first place, its pre-mint sale has just begun, with interested parties able to register via a visit to the platform’s official website. Overall, Cocky’s plans are certainly ambitious, with its roadmap and FAQ suggesting that Cocky is positioning itself as a kind of Bored Ape Yacht Club for music events. While it isn’t explicitly stated anywhere in the platform’s online materials, it’s likely that its events and NFTs will be aimed at the higher, more luxury end of the market, at least judging by its promise of beautiful locations around the world. This would mean that ownership of Cocky NFT could potentially provide ordinary holders with the opportunity to rub shoulders with a more ‘upmarket’ demographic. Needless to say, time will obviously tell whether the rich and/or famous will go for Cocky’s NFTs, as they did with BAYC. Assuming that Cocky can secure good lineups for its music events and good facilities, there’s every chance it will attract a decent crowd and community. If this does turn out to be the case, then its NFTs could end up becoming valuable, since they will grant entry into a world where music lovers can enjoy singular experiences and meet likeminded people. The Future of NFTs In other words, Cocky’s events will help non-fungible tokens become more than a nice digital collectible to have in your possession. And this is something that NFTs have been trying to evolve beyond for a couple of years now, despite the initial hype. Encouragingly, there are other indications that NFTs may start offering some genuine value to their holders, beyond speculation. This is evident in the use gaming developers and publishers are aiming to make of non-fungible tokens, while it’s also evident in crypto-native projects such as Bored Ape Yacht Club moving into the metaverse. It will take some time to things to mature the point where NFTs make a valuable contribution to their holders’ lives, yet it’s clear now that the industry is well aware that it needs to do more than simply offer a promising vehicle for speculation. And with Cocky’s plans to attach NFTs to real-world events, it seems that it has begun to do just that.

REUTERS/Chris Helgren/File Photo Cineplex offers debt and stock backed by combined business – WSJ Shares in Cineworld reverse course after initial jump Cineworld shares down 4% Sept 28 (Reuters) – Canadian cinema chain Cineplex (CGX.TO) has approached bankrupt rival Cineworld’s (CINE.L) lenders for a potential merger with the British company’s U.S. unit Regal Entertainment, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday. Cineworld and Cineplex have been locked in a multimillion-dollar legal battle since the London-listed company rescinded its offer to buy Cineplex more than two years ago. Cineworld has since been struggling to rein in massive debt and this month filed for bankruptcy in the United States. Cineplex is in early talks with Cineworld’s lenders about taking over Regal in exchange for debt and stock backed by the combined business, the WSJ reported, citing people familiar with the matter. Cineworld declined to comment on the report. Cineplex and Cineworld’s restructuring adviser Alix Partners and financial adviser PJT Partners did not respond immediately to a Reuters request for comment. The planned Cineplex takeover by was abandoned in 2020, with Cineworld citing breaches in the merger agreement, prompting a C$1.23 billion ($894.81 million) damages claim by the Canadian business. Debt taken on by Cineworld to survive a pandemic-driven delcine in footfall, along with previous loans to fund part of its $3.6 billion purchase of Regal in 2017 to create the world’s second-largest movie theatre chain, left the British company struggling to stay afloat. Its net debt, including lease liabilities of about $4 billion, stood at $8.9 billion at the end of 2021. The company’s market value at Tuesday’s market close was about 37 million pounds ($39.5 million). EXCLUSIVE Vietnam Preparing Rules To Limit News Posts On Social Media Accounts – Sources – Reuters https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/exclusive-vietnam-preparing-rules-to-limit-news-posts-on-social-media-accounts-sources-reuters/ SINGAPORE/HANOI, Sept 28 (Reuters) – Vietnam is preparing new rules to limit which social media accounts can post news-related content, three people familiar with the matter said, as authorities tighten their control over news and information sources in the country. The rules, expected to be announced by the year-end and with details yet to be hammered out, would establish a legal basis for controlling news dissemination on platforms like Facebook and YouTube while placing a significant moderation burden on platform providers, two of the sources added. The sources asked not to be identified, as discussions about the new rules remain confidential. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com Vietnam’s Ministry of Information and Communications and Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not immediately respond to requests for comment. “The government wants to fix what it sees as the ‘news-lisation’ of social media,” said one source familiar with the talks. “News-lisation”, or báo hoá, is a term used by the authorities to describe the misleading of users into thinking that social media accounts are authorised news outlets. Government officials have been holding confidential meetings with popular social media and internet firms to brief them on which types of accounts will be allowed to post news content under the new rules, according to the sources. Authorities would be able to order social media companies to ban accounts that break those rules, they said. Vietnam’s ruling Communist Party already maintains tight media censorship and tolerates little dissent, with one of the world’s most stringent internet regimes and national guidelines on social media behaviour. Two sources with direct knowledge told Reuters that more rules on internet and social media platforms would be introduced around the fourth quarter of 2022 to early 2023. As tech-savvy young Vietnamese increasingly turn to social media for information, those platforms have become a target for government efforts to restrict the flow of news from unauthorised sources. Vietnam is a top-10 market globally for Facebook with 60 million to 70 million users, according to 2021 data, and sources familiar with the matter said it generates around $1 billion in annual revenue for the company – surpassing France. YouTube has 60 million users in Vietnam and TikTok has 20 million, according to 2021 government estimates, although Twitter remains a relatively small player. Meta Platforms Inc (META.O), owner of Facebook, and Twitter Inc (TWTR.N) declined to comment. Alphabet Inc’s Google and YouTube did not respond to requests for comment. TikTok said in a statement that it addresses content violations based on applicable laws and with adherence to its guidelines, but did not comment on pending Vietnam regulations. The Vietnamese government had adopted in July a set of non-binding guidelines on what qualifies as news outlets, including criteria to distinguish “real” and “fake” news outlets, warning that some social networking sites include accounts that mislead users into thinking they are newspapers. Those guidelines are expected to be incorporated into the new rules, which will be binding. The authorities are also expected to implement new rules that would require social media platforms to immediately take down content deemed to harm national security, and to remove illegal content within 24 hours, sources familiar with the matter said. Sources told Reuters in April that the new rules, which were originally planned for July, reflected the government’s dissatisfaction with social media platforms’ take-down rates. read more This will be done through amendments to the country’s main internet law. Vietnam in August also issued a new regulation, due to come into effect from October, that will require technology firms to store users’ data locally and to set up local offices. ‘Let The Kids Be Kids And You Be A Kid Along With Them.’ Why You Should Take A Trip With Just Your Grandchildren. – Morningstar https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/let-the-kids-be-kids-and-you-be-a-kid-along-with-them-why-you-should-take-a-trip-with-just-your-grandchildren-morningstar/ By Jenny Wisniewski Imagine enjoying your relationship with your grandchildren in a way that might not be possible with their parents around This article is reprinted by permission from NextAvenue.org. When Margie Jordan took her first Disney (DIS) cruise alone with one of her five grandchildren, she jumped into every kid-centered activity her 12-year-old granddaughter desired — until it came time for the AquaDuck. The waterslide required passing through a sheet of cascading water at the end. She wasn’t thrilled with the idea of getting drenched and having to bother with her hair once again. After both her granddaughter and a Disney employee convinced her that she wouldn’t get “that wet,” Jordan, of Jacksonville, Florida, relented. “Well, I got soaked, and we both came down laughing hysterically,” Jordan said. And just like that, a memory was made. Vacations like Jordan’s are having a moment. While families continue to enjoy multigenerational vacations, which usually include children, parents and grandparents, duo-generational trips are gaining in popularity. This sort of trip might look like Jordan’s — a grandparent or set of grandparents traveling with one or more grandchildren. In other cases, older adults travel with their adult children, leaving the grandkids behind. Regardless of the combination of family members, it is clear that the separations and tragedies caused by the pandemic have fueled a desire to spend quality time bonding on a more intimate level. Also read: 8 rules to help your kids or grandkids succeed in college Disney cruising with tweens Jordan wasn’t done cruising. After the first trip with her granddaughter, her next oldest grandchild wanted to get in on the action, so Jordan embarked on her second Disney cruise, this time with both of the eldest grandchildren. “I tell you, the thing that was the best for me was getting to just spend time with them without their parents,” Jordan said. “We’re enjoying it so much that now, when we talk about taking another cruise — because the third grandson just turned 12, so now it’s his turn to join this little cruise thing that we’ve got going on — none of them, not one of them wants a parent to come,” Jordan said. The dynamics change when the trip is multigenerational, Jordan has come to realize. If her two daughters came along, her time and attention would be split. She can nurture her relationship with “her grands” in a way that would probably not be possible with their parents present. When not cruising with her grandkids, Jordan plans trips for others as a travel agent and the owner of Jordan Executive Travel Service, based in Jacksonville. She has advice for other grandparents planning a two-generation trip. First, she recommends waiting until the grandkids are 11 or 12. She also advises that grandparents consider their grandchildren’s interests and book the trip around that. “The trip is about them and all the things that make them amazing. So figure out what their interests are and book the trip around that,” Jordan said. “Let the kids be kids and you be a kid along with them.” You might like:6 lessons I learned from growing up with my grandparents — and great-grandparents Celebrating special occasions with teens Angie Rice, co-founder of Boutique Travel Advisors based in Paradise Valley, Arizona, is also seeing a significant increase in duo-generational travel. She agrees that waiting until kids reach their tween or teen years is important when planning a grandparent-grandchild vacation. “When the kids are little, it’s just a bigger undertaking for the grandparents to take smaller kids, and it’s also hard for the kids to be away from their parents,” Rice said. Giving the gift of travel to commemorate a birthday or graduation has become a part of the trend. Rice planned one trip for a set of grandparents who took their high school and college-age grandkids on a Mediterranean cruise followed up with several days in Rome. The trip was a joint graduation gift for the six cousins. In many cases, parents are unable to take time off from work for this type of extended trip. It also provides the grandparents more autonomy with their grandkids. Another reason for an increase in grandchildren — grandparent travel: the middle generation needs a break. “I think that they (the parents) were in their homes, raising kids 24/7 throughout the pandemic. It could be that the adult children are expressing the need (for a break) to their parents. So I almost think it is happening out of a combination of want and also perhaps need,” Rice said. Travel for landlubbers Aside from cruises, certain types of trips lend themselves to duo-generational travel. All-inclusive resorts in Mexico or the Caribbean are good options, Rice said. If travelers prefer to remain in the country, dude ranches are also conducive to this type of vacation. Flathead Lake Lodge in Bigfork, Montana is one such place. The all-inclusive, 2,000-acre dude ranch is located on the shores of Flathead Lake just 45 miles from Glacier National Park. It offers visitors a “historic, stuck-in-time kind of experience” that appeals to grandparents, said Chase Averill, general manager and third generation member of the family-owned business. In many cases, grandparents have memories of coming to the lodge as a child, or even with their own children. They want to share the experiences that they look back on so fondly with their grandchildren. In addition, Flathead Lake Lodge offers a vast array of activities. It is common for the kids to go in one direction and adults to go in another so that they can participate in the activities that suit their interests and abilities. The kids might ride horses, participate in water sports and mountain bike while their grandparents take a tour through the lodge’s elk preserve or sail aboard one of the historic sailboats, built in 1928 and 1929 for America’s Cup. At night, everyone comes together for a planned activity such as a steak fry or barn dance. Check out:Looking to unplug? Here are 12 peaceful towns great for going off the grid Travel for the adults A dude ranch like Flathead Lake Lodge also appeals to older adults traveling with their adult children. Averill saw a surge in this travel dynamic during the pandemic. During the summer of 2020, families that had traveled to Flathead Lake Lodge didn’t want to leave. They were able to easily maintain social distancing because of the expanse of the property and still enjoy their family members. For some, it became a retreat from a tumultuous world. A number of these travelers returned for a second trip in the fall, this time bringing their older parents and leaving the kids behind. Many have continued this pattern since. Phoebe Knight, a Missoula, Montana resident, has been vacationing at Flathead Lake Lodge with her sisters and their 93-year-old father, even longer. The tradition began with a stay at the lodge 18 years ago to celebrate his 75th birthday. Knight values this time with her father, who lives in Cos Cob, Connecticut, over 2,000 miles away. “My dad was a Navy man and loves to sail,” Knight said. “That’s his thing and the lodge has two beautiful antique sailboats that he can go out and sail. And while we’re sailing, he’s telling me stories of his time in the Navy. I just think it’s irreplaceable. It’s been absolutely amazing.” Rice plans trips for older adults and their adult children, too. Recently, she put together a trip for an older adult couple along with their two adult children and spouses. Leaving their minor children behind, they took a river cruise on the Douro River in Portugal. The grandmother frequently helps out with the grandchildren, and this was a chance for her adult children to say thank you and spend quality time alone. And where did the grandchildren stay while their parents and grandparents were cruising? Several stayed with the other set of grandparents. In a way, it became like two family reunions going on at the same time, Rice observed. Not everyone is so fortunate to have another set of grandparents available to help out. In cases like these, Rice recommends using opportunities like summer camp to plan a two-generation, adults-only trip. Don’t miss:Live it up now: The pleasure we get from spending declines as we age As for Margie Jordan, the Disney-cruising grandma, she’s decided it’s time to plan a trip with her two daughters, leaving the grandchildren behind. Like many families, their mind-set shifted with the pandemic. “I think the pandemic really kind of shook a lot of people up. People that were here a couple of years ago aren’t with us today,” Jordan said. “People are just not willing to let any more time pass without enjoying their family members in some kind of way. It’s the thing that you always wanted to do or that you thought you were going to do. And you say ‘we’re going to plan it one day.’ Well, one day is now.” Jenny Wisniewski is a freelance writer based in Milwaukee. She writes about elder care, the environment and travel. Mitchell Booth Founder Of Love Whole Foods In Ormond Beach Dies Daytona Beach News-Journal
Mitchell Booth, Founder Of Love Whole Foods In Ormond Beach, Dies – Daytona Beach News-Journal https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/mitchell-booth-founder-of-love-whole-foods-in-ormond-beach-dies-daytona-beach-news-journal/ ORMOND BEACH — Mitchell Booth, founder of the Love Whole Foods Cafe & Market stores in Ormond Beach and Port Orange, died unexpectedly of a sudden illness Sept. 23, his family confirmed. “Mitch lived the life he preached,” said his widow, Paula Schandel. “We lost a tremendous heart and a tremendous light in our community.” Booth, 73, opened his first Love Whole Foods store in The Trails Shopping Center in Ormond Beach in 1991 with his then-wife, the late Anita Booth who died in 2006. The couple were former photojournalists who worked for the Hartford Courant newspaper in Hartford, Connecticut, prior to moving to the Daytona Beach area. Booth who went by the nickname “Mitch” also worked as a photojournalist for the Detroit Free Press. He grew up in Detroit and graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in fine arts. He left the journalism field when he got hired by Traveler’s Insurance to become the company’s corporate photographer. That job had him flying all over the country to take photos of catastrophes, including fires, floods and areas damaged by hurricanes, as well as various corporate events. Booth and his first wife became fans of a natural food store chain in the New England area called Bread & Circus. That inspired them to open Love Whole Foods when they moved to Florida. The growing business for the health food store prompted the couple to relocate their Ormond Beach store to its present location on the corner of Williamson Boulevard and Hand Avenue on Sept. 1, 2001.  A second location for Love Whole Foods opened in Port Orange, near the intersection of Williamson and Taylor Road in 2011. LOOKING BACK: Love Whole Foods founder comments on area’s grocery store wars THUMBS UP: Local health food store gets high marks from TripAdvisor COMPETITION HEATS UP: ‘Natural food’ stores starting to proliferate locally ‘Invest in your health one bite at a time’ Booth was proud of the fact that his stores lived up to their name of offering truly whole foods and wellness products. “We’re the largest organic, contaminate-free, local family-owned full-service grocery store in Volusia-Flagler if you combine our two stores,” he said in a 2019 interview. Booth’s passion for health foods and healthy living was also evident in another interview he gave to The News-Journal four years earlier. “The best health insurance is making sure your food is the healthiest you can get. You invest in your health one bite at a time,” he said. One way Love Whole Foods differentiated itself from the big grocery chains, Booth said, was by standing by the principles he and his first wife established when they began their business. Those standards, he said, included a commitment to only sell natural and organic food that is free of “artificial additives and mystery ingredients” and a willingness to verify to customers “the integrity of our suppliers and (that) the food we sell will not be irradiated or bio-engineered. “They (the big grocery chains) are primarily about marketing and driven by corporate standards, whereas we are a local family-run business, which has been investing not only money into our communities’ schools and local farms but also time and energy in educational seminars free to the public.” ‘Lived his life wanting to help people’ Paula Schandel said of her husband, “He had the biggest heart of anybody I’d ever met. He lived his life wanting to help people.” Paula Schandel said the family-run business will carry on, led by Booth’s son, Mark Van Cleef, and daughter-in-law, Peggy Van Cleef. “Last week, we lost a great man and a great friend,” said longtime friend and customer Jenni Craig, who was a childhood friend of Booth’s daughter Capt. Laura Warner of Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue. Craig is one of the owners of Copper Bottom Craft Distillery in Holly Hill along with her husband and in-laws. “Mitch was generous and kind, and his knowledge healed so many lives in our community. I treasure the memories and everything he taught me.”   In addition to Schandel, the Van Cleefs, and Warner, Mitchell Booth is also survived by his two sisters, Joannie and Julie Booth, as well as his and his wife’s son Paul Schandel, who works for Foundation Risk Partners. He is also survived by six grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, Paula Schandel said she and her family requests donations in Booth’s memory to the Vietnam Veterans of Volusia County and the Tunnels to Towers Foundation. The latter is a nonprofit that provides mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first-responder families with young children.

The Real-World Tech That Smooths Payments In The Metaverse – PYMNTS.com https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/the-real-world-tech-that-smooths-payments-in-the-metaverse-pymnts-com/ The new eCommerce landscape is complex and ever evolving: Businesses seeking to provide their customers with new virtual spaces like gaming environments have to adapt their payments management strategies to new technical and user experience challenges. “Navigating The New eCommerce Landscape: Modernizing Payments For Marketplaces, Gaming, The Metaverse And Beyond,” a PYMNTS and Citi collaboration, examines the challenges facing growing global businesses as the age of the metaverse dawns. The New eCommerce Challenge  As businesses adapt to an “eCommerce anywhere” age, they are learning that new virtual spaces like gaming platforms and the metaverse require new ways of thinking about payments and user experience. Myriad challenges face global technology, communications and eGaming companies — ranging from managing multicurrency payments efficiently to ensuring universal know-your-customer (KYC) and know-your-business (KYB) compliance — and these difficulties often increase in complexity as businesses scale. According to the report, challenges become even more burdensome as businesses grow, making rapid growth another risk organizations must manage. As these organizations attempt to meet consumers’ demand for modern shopping features, such as fast payments and digital asset downloads, the technical and security burdens involved often complicate their efforts to create, monitor and evolve seamless user experiences. Risk Evolves With Technology and Business Growth Innovation always involves risk, and the new eCommerce landscape is no exception. The old challenges — security and user experience — are still there, but the strategies used to solve these problems must evolve at the same time. That means organizations are managing innovation and growth with little guidance on how to adapt to new issues while trying to solve old problems. To remove friction from payment experiences for creators, service providers and customers alike, organizations must manage elements ranging from multicurrency payment issues to user onboarding — all while monitoring transactions for suspicious activity. Fraud is a risk, as are money laundering and identity theft. That means true visibility across all transactions is essential to protect contractors, consumers and the organization. Transparency is not just key to managing new payments strategies in new virtual spaces but critical to maintaining business growth over time. An open, honest conversation about legacy payments strategies and the tools that they rely upon, as well as which practices to modernize, is essential for businesses seeking to sustain growth in the new eCommerce sector. Organizations, according to the report, should opt for an objective review of payments strategies and processes. It recommends that organizations look for vulnerabilities to noncompliance that may increase at scale, such as poor onboarding processes for new clients or contractors that fall short of KYC and KYB standards at any touchpoint and that they seek out a solution that offers global compliance monitoring in tandem with payments processing. “Navigating The New eCommerce Landscape: Modernizing Payments For Marketplaces, Gaming, The Metaverse And Beyond” also details: Why building a metaverse-ready payments strategy requires the right technology. How legacy payments strategies require an audit to be scalable for the new eCommerce era. How to handle the reality that the metaverse has the same basic user experience requirements as legacy eCommerce — but consumers will always expect more as technology advances. Best Prime Day Laptop Deals: What To Expect From The Second Sale Digital Trends
Best Prime Day Laptop Deals: What To Expect From The Second Sale Digital Trends
Best Prime Day Laptop Deals: What To Expect From The Second Sale – Digital Trends https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/best-prime-day-laptop-deals-what-to-expect-from-the-second-sale-digital-trends/ Prime Day has come and gone and Black Friday hasn’t quite reached us yet, and if you’re in the market for one of the best laptops you may be wondering when you can catch a major discount. As it turns out, Amazon has confirmed it will be holding a second major shopping event in 2022. The Prime Early Access Sale will be taking place on October 10 and October 11, and it will be a great opportunity for anyone who missed out on Prime Day deals to grab a new laptop at a great price. This event will basically be a second version of the popular Prime Day shopping event, with Amazon discounting prices on some of the best laptop brands a near certainty. This event will precede November’s Black Friday sales by more than a month, and will make a great opportunity to get a head start on your holiday shopping. In fact, we’re already starting to get a good idea of what to expect with this second Prime Day event, and we’ve rounded up some of the best early Prime Day laptop deals available. Today’s Best Prime Day Laptop Deals HP Chromebook 11.6 — $98, was $225 There are some absolute bargains to be found in the Prime Day Laptop Deals. The best Chromebooks don’t have to cost a fortune if you know exactly what you want from one, especially if you look for Prime Day Chromebook deals. That’s demonstrated by the HP 11.6-inch Chromebook. It’s an attractive option for anyone looking for one of the best Chromebooks for students thanks to being so cheap, while still offering what you need. It has all the basics anyone could require while you work on the move. Utilizing an 11.6-inch screen means that it’s very small and easy to carry around with you. That screen still offers an HD resolution while also including antiglare properties. While 220 nits may not be exceptional for pricier laptops, it’s fairly reasonable in this price range. Under the hood, you get an AMD A4 processor, along with 4GB of memory. Again, it’s low-end stuff, but Chromebooks use ChromeOS, which is very undemanding. The idea of ChromeOS is that you work via the cloud. Everything you save is kept on the cloud while even the apps you use are cloud-based, such as the wealth of Google apps out there. That also explains why the HP 11.6-inch Chromebook offers 32GB of eMMC storage. That would be low for a Windows-based system, but for a Chromebook, it’s all you need. It also has integrated AMD Radeon R4 graphics, but it’s not like you’ll be doing any gaming on this system. However, you will be able to stream shows and movies via your favorite streaming services. Perhaps the most distinctive part of the HP 11.6-inch Chromebook is its build quality. It’s built to last. This Chromebook can survive a fall off a desk from up to four feet (so, higher than most desks). It can also withstand a splash from a drink or if someone tugs its power cord too hard. It can even resist attempts to remove keys, plus it has metal-reinforced corners. It’s these features that make it particularly well-suited for younger students who are just starting out with a computer of their own. Throw in long battery life and fast recharging, and the HP 11.6-inch Chromebook is a suitably frustration-free setup for everyone. HP Laptop 14 — $280, was $430 The HP 14-inch laptop keeps things simple and straightforward, making it an ideal choice from the Prime Day Laptop Deals if you need a reliable Windows laptop without spending a fortune. That’s kind of what you would expect to see from one of the best laptop brands, but it’s nice to see HP offer decent quality at this price range. While it won’t rival the best 14-inch laptops, it’s still more than good enough for anyone on a budget, especially as it comes with Windows 11 Home already installed. For your money, you get an AMD 3020e processor with AMD Radeon graphics included. This is no gaming machine, but it means you’ll have reasonable performance for working on the move. Alongside that, you get 8GB of memory, which is just the right amount for being productive in this price range. Also, there’s 128GB of SSD storage, which means you have plenty of room to store all your files and apps. SSD-based storage also means that the HP 14-inch laptop is able to boot up and load apps or files much quicker than a regular hard drive. The HP 14-inch laptop has all those finer details covered too. For instance, its 14-inch screen is surrounded by a 6.5mm micro-edge bezel so you can spend more time looking at the screen than ugly bezels. It also means the HP 14-inch laptop is thinner and lighter than one would expect. You also get long-lasting battery life so you can stay connected all day. To back it up, there’s also HP Fast Charge technology that means it recharges superfast when needed. Even the touchpad has been well-designed with multitouch support ensuring you can work speedily. Other useful details include a multi-format SD media card reader for plugging in memory cards, while there’s also a HP True Vision 720p HD camera with an integrated dual-array digital microphone. The HP 14-inch laptop even tosses in one USB-C port alongside two USB-A ports and an HDMI connection so you have plenty of flexibility in terms of what you hook up to it. It’s well-suited to anyone looking for a productivity-focused device. Apple MacBook Air M1 — $850, was $999 The Apple MacBook Air M1 is a delight to use, particularly if you also own other Apple devices. Connecting well with your iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and other Apple gadgets, the MacBook Air might seem expensive on the surface but it’s impressively powerful. That’s thanks to Apple’s own M1 chip, which offers phenomenal performance alongside exceptional battery life. The processor has eight cores and is up to 3.5 times faster than the previous-gen Intel CPUs. Despite having so much power, it still has a battery life of up to 18 hours so you can bring it along on a long day and it’ll keep going. In addition, 8GB of memory means it’s capable of multitasking at speed, and everything is designed to work well with MacOS. It also has a gorgeous looking 13.3-inch Retina display. Text is sharp and clear, while colors are bright and vibrant. A thermally efficient yet completely fanless design means that you don’t even have to worry about a constant fan noise, as the MacBook’s M1 CPU stays cool and silent at all times. Additional features include a 256GB SSD, which is plenty of room to store your most important files. It also has a FaceTime HD camera for video conferencing and taking FaceTime calls. Touch ID support lets you use your finger to log in rather than constantly having to type passwords. The backlit Magic Keyboard also looks great, and is particularly useful when working in the evening. Simply put, the MacBook Air M1 is a true delight to use and a great choice for Apple fans. With many productivity apps ready to use right out of the box, it’s ideal for students an professionals alike. Should you shop these Prime Day laptop deals or wait until Black Friday? Black Friday is an annual event that sees almost every retailer in existence discounting much of their inventories to kick off the holiday shopping season. This makes it, generally speaking, the best time of the year to find major discounts on popular products, as many retailers use the event to clear out inventory. In fact, Black Friday often sees laptops selling out completely, with little availability and longer delivery windows throughout the shopping season. With it being such a popular event, and with it taking place immediately after Thanksgiving, it’s a great time to grab a discount on a laptop. However, this second Prime Day event by Amazon presents an unexpected opportunity in the regular holiday shopping strategy. It will be taking place more than a month before Black Friday, and the best time to get a deal is while one is looking you in the eye. You can purchase a laptop at this second Prime Day event with zero risk, as the event is close enough to Black Friday that your return window will still be open when Black Friday rolls around. This means you can grab a laptop deal during this second Prime Day event if you see one you like, and if a better deal turns up come Black Friday, you can grab it and still return the previous purchase. It’s best to get your holiday shopping done early to guarantee a deal and to guarantee you don’t miss out on the laptop you have your eye on. There will be a lot of opportunity to land one of the best laptops or one of the best Chromebooks. So whether you feel a better deal awaits you on Black Friday or not, grab a new laptop at this second Prime Day event if you see one at a price that works for you. The best part: knowing OpenSea activity on Optimism funds a sustainable future for Ethereum,” the blockchain tweeted. “Having the largest NFT marketplace on Optimism is going to be absolutely massive for Optimism’s creators, collectors, and NFT” fans. Optimism was built as a scalable L2 blockchain by Ethereum developers. The blockchain’s creators claim “Optimism takes everything you love about Ethereum and turbocharges it. Ethereum tooling ‘just works’ on every level of the stack. Transactions are cheap and nearly instant.” Owing to the latest development, OpenSea is adding support to the sixth blockchain, with Ethereum, Solana, Polygon, Klaytn, and Arbitrum already accommodated by the platform.  As of 08:00 a.m. UTC, some 100 Optimism-based NFT collections were available for purchase at OpenSea. The largest trading volume was reported by Early Optimists, at ETH 534, Optimistic Explorer, with ETH 175, and OP Orcas, at ETH 76, respectively, according to data released by the marketplace. “We encourage the @optimismFND community to search for their favorite newly listed Optimism collections and reach out to founders to get @openrarity integration and collection offers enabled!” OpenSea said in a tweet. Stop Paying For Costly EMRs, Tech For Connecting Health Systems – Healthcare IT News https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/stop-paying-for-costly-emrs-tech-for-connecting-health-systems-healthcare-it-news/ Healthcare organisations should stop spending a pile of cash on expensive digital technologies to join up their systems. During the keynote session “Shifting the Paradigm in Digital Health,” Frank Hester, founder and CEO of TPP UK, shared that cost is a big consideration for him in acquiring EMR and other digital health technologies.  Say the cost of joining up health systems in Indonesia is worth a billion dollars, he said. “You should be able to bang in an EMR solution right across Indonesia for but much less than a hundred million dollars.” “I’m fine if you want to pay more… but I say it’s time to stop,” he urged the audience. “In every other industry, technology has brought the cost of the product down. You get more value for money and you see it everywhere, apparently, miraculously, apart from healthcare technology,” he claimed, saying that it is supposed to be cheaper, faster, and better today. Hester also advised organisations to look from suppliers data access and interoperability in their solutions. “Have we got apps and mobile solutions? Do doctors and nurses like using the system? Does it empower them? Does it make it quicker?” He also said to consider how quick their supplier responds; are they allowed to do the installation or wait for them to do it. “It’s madness if you have to wait for your supplier to do something. It’s even more madness if they managed to charge you for it,” he stressed. Nevertheless, Hester still thinks “it’s a wonderful time to be in healthcare technology.”  He shared that present technologies in healthcare are helping doctors save time and make fewer clinical errors.  Particularly, AI has been assisting clinicians in decision-making and diagnostics and expanding access to healthcare services, especially in areas where there is a lack of healthcare staff. “I think the business opportunities [in healthcare technology] are fantastic, but the change that we can make to humanity, to our lives is even more fantastic,” he concluded.

For information about how the series is funded and more, check out our FAQs. Amsterdam, the Netherlands CNN  —  It’s early evening in an affluent neighborhood in the Dutch city of Haarlem and bed and breakfast owners Arnoud and Marika are waiting for their next guest to arrive. They’ve prepared their single room for her, a brightly colored space with massive windows overlooking a leafy drive. The traveller is a woman from France. She’s only staying one night, but her hosts want her to feel at home because she’s not here on vacation. She’s come to have a second-trimester abortion. The Netherlands is one of just a few countries in Europe where access to abortion is possible past 12 weeks of pregnancy, and Arnoud and Marika’s guest is one of around 3,000 people from abroad who have accessed one annually in recent years. Here, abortions for non-Dutch residents can be carried out until 22 weeks, according to Dutch abortion providers, and nationals can access terminations up to 24 weeks. In the United Kingdom (with the exception of Northern Ireland), it’s possible for anyone to get an abortion until 24 weeks, and for a very limited set of circumstances afterwards, however Brexit has made it increasingly more difficult for people to travel there. And in Spain, abortions past 14 weeks of pregnancy are only legal under extremely limited circumstances, although abortion rights groups say the law is often interpreted loosely. The restrictions mean that, for many in their second trimester, the Netherlands is their last chance to access a safe abortion. By opening up their home, Arnoud and Marika have become part of a grassroots network of people helping to facilitate that access. “This is a house without taboos,” Arnoud told CNN. Arnoud and Marika are pseudonyms that CNN agreed to use over concerns that the couple’s B&B – which is also where they live – will be targeted by anti-abortion protesters. Now in their 70s, the retired pair have made it their mission to be a welcoming point of entry for the people they host, many of whom they receive bleary eyed from a long day or more of travel, punctuated by weeks of anxiety and stress leading up to the journey. “They are so relieved, they have made this terrible journey, and they come in and they’re crying,” Marika said. “I love to be a light for them.” Arnoud and Marika look through messages written by their guests in their B&B in Haarlem. Photo: Kara Fox/CNN Arnoud and Marika’s guest book. “Thanks for the kind words that cheered me up,” a message from a Polish guest in September reads. Photo: Kara Fox/CNN Since they opened their B&B seven years ago, Arnoud and Marika say they have hosted around 350 people seeking abortion care from across Europe. They explain that some came alone, others were joined by partners or friends, while some brought their family. At first, the majority of their guests came from France and Germany, where abortion is available until 14 and 12 weeks of pregnancy, respectively. (France extended that time limit from 12 to 14 weeks earlier this year.) They say they have also hosted a number of women from other European countries including Belgium and Luxembourg, and Romania. One woman traveled from as far as the Caribbean island of Martinique, they said. But in recent years data shows the demographics have changed, with an influx of people now traveling to the Netherlands from Poland, after the country’s highest court further tightened its abortion laws – which were already among the strictest in Europe. The numbers coming to the Netherlands from Poland have swelled further as Ukrainians displaced there due to the war find they need to seek safe abortion access beyond Polish borders. In October 2020, Poland’s Constitutional Tribunal banned virtually all abortions, allowing them only in circumstances where the pregnancy was a result of rape or incest, or if the pregnant person’s life was at risk. The law came into effect the following January. Prior to this, abortions were also allowed in the case of fetal abnormalities – which accounted for approximately 97% of all known legal terminations carried out in Poland in 2019, according to data from the Polish Ministry of Health. The change in the law has left many people in Poland without legal access to safe terminations in their own country, and has created an even more hostile environment for abortion rights activists and those seeking abortions. When asked about the worsening climate for those seeking or providing abortions in Poland, a statement provided to CNN by the Polish government simply reiterated the law, saying: “In the event of a situation that threatens the life or health of a pregnant woman (e.g. suspected infection of the uterine cavity, hemorrhage, etc.) …it is lawful to terminate a pregnancy immediately.” “The decision whether there are circumstances in which the pregnancy threatens the life or health of the pregnant woman is and can only be made by a doctor in a specific case,” the statement added. But abortion rights activists say the law has created a chilling effect on healthcare providers, with some doctors appearing more fearful of potential repercussions that include prosecution than doing everything they can to save a pregnant person’s life. Three pregnant women have died in Polish hospitals after being denied an abortion since the court decision, according to Abortion Support Network, a UK-based organization that helps people in Poland obtain abortion care as part of the Abortion Without Borders (AWB) network. AWB was formed in response to the Polish government’s long standing proposals to ban abortion in 2019. The grassroots feminist network is made up of six organizations from Poland, the UK, Germany and the Netherlands. They say the Polish state is failing women and have made it their mission to ensure safe access to abortion for any reason a person chooses to have one – including whether the pregnancy is wanted or not. “We don’t want to make you feel like you have to explain yourself, and that you have to earn your abortion with a sob story,” said Polish abortion rights activist Kasia Roszak. Roszak, who now lives in Amsterdam where she works with Abortion Network Amsterdam (part of AWB), says she knows exactly how it feels to not have agency over her reproductive rights, which is one of the reasons she works to ensure access for anyone globally who needs it. “We believe that abortions are part of life. It can be an empowering, positive experience. And if it’s not, if it’s something hard for you, then we’re going to give you space and validation of your feelings,” Roszak said. “I feel like it’s my responsibility to be able to share with people that there are options.” From December 2020 to December 2021, AWB says they helped 32,000 people from Poland access abortions across Europe – an almost six-fold increase from the previous year. In 2021, the network says they facilitated travel for 1,186 people in Poland – more than quadruple the number of people they supported with travel in 2020. More than half of those people travelled to the Netherlands, making up 52% of the total they helped to visit the country for abortions that year, according to AWB. Official 2021 data from the Dutch government shows 651 people from Poland had abortions in the Netherlands, more than double the number of people in 2020. “Effectively, we took over all [of Poland’s] fetal anomaly cases,” said Roszak. Numbers previously hovered around 1,000 cases a year in Poland, according to government data. The network gets connected with people who need their help through a process like this: A person with an unwanted pregnancy will first call a hotline in Poland, where they have two options, depending on how far along they are: take pills or travel for a procedure. If they are less than 12 weeks pregnant, they are sent the abortion pills mifepristone and misoprostol – approved by the World Health Organization – to take in the privacy of their own home. This is the case for the majority of the people who reach out to them, according to AWB data. However, for people whose pregnancies have already passed the 12-week mark, they will likely need to travel to a clinic abroad. This is also the case for those living in other European countries where laws prohibit abortions after the first trimester. For these people, the network taps into its web of volunteers and activists who will work around the clock to arrange appointments at clinics, translate documentation and provide financial assistance to help meet the cost of the procedure and related travel. Second trimester abortions may be available in the Netherlands but they are expensive for non-Dutch residents, costing up to 1,100 euros (roughly $1,100) for the surgical procedure which typically takes no longer than 20 minutes. Counselling, preparation for the procedure and recovery however require the better part of a day. Depending on each individual circumstance, assistance arrives in many ways and AWB may cover all or part of the costs, which can include flights, accommodation, and handling appointments with the treatment center directly. Money is raised mostly from private donations, according to activists within the AWB network, but some of the organizations within it are supported by big donors. Without financial assistance, abortion travel is especially prohibitive for working-class people, migrants and others living in poverty. Kinga Jelińska, Executive Director of the Amsterdam-based group Women Help Women – which is also part of AWB – told CNN: “We r...

In a legal brief appealing a lower court’s decision, the lawyer accuses the Securities and Exchange Commission of violating Musk’s free speech rights. He contends in a brief filed late Tuesday that the SEC is continually trying to enforce the 2018 securities fraud settlement. The agency is chilling Musk’s speech with the threat of investigations and prosecution. Under the settlement, Musk and Tesla each agreed to pay $20 million in civil fines over Musk’s tweets about having the “funding secured” to take Tesla private at $420 per share. The agreement requires Musk to get tweets about the company approved by a lawyer before they are posted. Millions of Americans will save on Medicare fees next year WASHINGTON (AP) — For the first time in a decade, Americans will pay less next year on monthly premiums for Medicare’s Part B plan, which covers routine doctors’ visits and other outpatient care. The rare 3% decrease in monthly premiums — a savings of $5.20 for most — comes after millions of Medicare beneficiaries endured a tough year of high inflation and a dramatic increase in those premiums this year. Most people on Medicare will pay $164.90 monthly for Part B coverage starting next year. The decrease in Medicare fees comes as many older people await news about big increases next year to their Social Security checks, which are often used to pay for Medicare premiums. VP Harris seeks computer chip partners in Japan meetings TOKYO (AP) — Vice President Kamala Harris has highlighted a new U.S. law boosting support for computer chip manufacturing as she met with Japanese technology executives on Wednesday. The meeting on her last full day in Tokyo reflects the administration’s focus on boosting semiconductor manufacturing and expanding the supply chain for critical materials. At the same time, Japan is looking to rejuvenate its own computer chip industry, and there could be opportunities for new partnerships as the allies work together to counter China’s own technology investments. British pound stabilizes, but turmoil still roils UK economy LONDON (AP) — The British pound has stabilized as U.K. authorities tried to ease investor concerns after the biggest tax cuts in 50 years sent the currency tumbling to a record low. Some businesses are predicting a devastating combination of a weak currency and rising interest rates. The turmoil is already having real-world effects, with British mortgage lenders pulling hundreds of offers from the market. That’s because there are expectations the Bank of England will sharply boost interest rates to offset the inflationary impact of the pound’s recent slide. The Wine and Spirit Trade Association says the sterling crash is set to raise prices for consumers and threaten hundreds of British jobs in bottling plants. Meta disables Russian propaganda network targeting Europe Facebook says it has identified and stopped a sprawling network of fake accounts that spread Russian propaganda about the invasion of Ukraine throughout Western Europe. Facebook parent company Meta says the network created more than 60 websites that mimicked legitimate news organizations but parroted Russian talking points about Ukraine. More than 1,600 fake Facebook accounts were used to spread the propaganda to audiences in Germany, Italy, France, the United Kingdom and Ukraine. Meta says it was the largest and most complex network linked to Russia that the California-based company has identified since the Ukraine invasion began. The Russian Embassy in Washington, D.C., hasn’t responded to a request for comment. Asian shares sharply lower after wobbly day on Wall Street TOKYO (AP) — Asian shares have tumbled after a wobbly day on Wall Street as markets churn over the prospect of a possible recession. U.S. futures and oil prices also fell. The volatile trading Tuesday in New York came a day after the Dow Jones Industrial Average followed other major U.S. indexes into a bear market. The S&P 500 slipped 0.2%, the Dow fell a bit more and the Nasdaq composite wound up with a gain of 0.2%. With just a few days left in September, stocks are heading for another losing month as investors fear that the higher interest rates being used to fight inflation could help knock the economy into a downturn. Manchin ends pipeline push, easing path for spending bill WASHINGTON (AP) — Sen. Joe Manchin has abandoned his push to speed up the permitting process for energy projects. His decision eases the Senate’s path toward passing a stopgap spending bill that would keep the federal government running when the fiscal year ends at midnight Friday and provide more aid to Ukraine.  A procedural vote advancing the effort cleared easily, 72-23, after Democrats announced that Manchin’s proposal would be stripped from the final legislation. While lawmakers are waiting once again until the final moments of the fiscal year to keep the government running, they are confident they will do so. States get final OK to build highway EV charging network WASHINGTON (AP) — All 50 states have received final approval to begin construction on a first nationwide network of electric vehicle charging stations that places one roughly every 50 miles along interstate highways. It’s part of the Biden administration’s plan to spur widespread adoption of zero-emission cars. The Transportation Department approved plans Tuesday for the last set of 17 states that will install or upgrade fast chargers along 75,000 miles of highway, coast to coast. By year’s end, drivers could start seeing shiny upgrades to existing highway EV stations in states including California, Colorado, Florida and Pennsylvania. Attorneys for Musk, Twitter argue over information exchange DOVER, Del. (AP) — A Delaware judge heard more arguments over the exchange of information by lawyers in the Twitter lawsuit that seeks to force billionaire Elon Musk to carry through with his $44 billion acquisition of the social platform. Tuesday’s hearing came three weeks before a scheduled trial in the dispute. Musk agreed in April to buy Twitter and take it private, offering $54.20 a share and vowing to loosen the company’s policing of content and to root out fake accounts. He later backed away from the deal, claiming that Twitter hadn’t provided him with enough information about the number of fake accounts on its platform. Walmart to cover fertility treatments under insurance plan NEW YORK (AP) — Walmart is teaming up with a fertility startup to offer benefits under its insurance plan that will help its workers expand their families. The nation’s largest retailer and private employer said Tuesday it’s partnering with New York-based Kindbody to offer benefits such as in vitro fertilization as well as fertility testing regardless of sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or marital status. Walmart’s employees will get access to more than 30 fertility clinics and in vitro fertilization labs across the U.S. Kindbody’s clinics will be available to help eligible workers access Walmart’s surrogacy and adoption benefits, as well. Cancer: Early Detection And Diagnosis Makes Cancer A Winning Battle For All – NDTV Doctor https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/cancer-early-detection-and-diagnosis-makes-cancer-a-winning-battle-for-all-ndtv-doctor/ Home »  Cancer »  Cancer: Early Detection And Diagnosis Makes Cancer A Winning Battle For All Cancer: Diagnosis at the early stage reduces the risk of getting diagnosed at a later stage when things usually go out of hand. As dreadful as the word may sound, cancer – a condition in which abnormal cells divide uncontrollably causing damage to healthy body tissues, is very much treatable. Only and only if it is detected and diagnosed early. It has been observed that early detection and diagnosis of these cancers –  breast, ovarian, lung, prostate, liver, cervical, colon and rectal – can significantly amp up survival rate and can lead to 100% recovery from the condition.  Delayed or inaccessible cancer detection or diagnosis results in a lower chance of survival, increasing treatment-related complications and certainly, higher treatment costs. Early diagnosis not only enhances the chance of successful treatment but also improves cancer outcomes by offering care at the earliest possible stage. This is why early detection and diagnosis of cancer is considered to be an essential public health strategy.  The wonders of early diagnosis of cancer Diagnosis at the wee stage meets two important objectives as it reduces the risk of getting diagnosed at a later stage when things usually go out of hand. First, it causes an increased awareness of the first signs of cancer among not just physicians, nurses and the medical fraternity but also among common people. Second, it results in improved accessibility and affordability of diagnosis and treatment services and better referral from first to secondary and tertiary levels of care. It is crucial, especially for those in the high-risk group who regularly smoke, use tobacco/alcohol, or have a family history of cancer. Signs and symptoms of cancer to watch out These symptoms must not be ignored.  • Swelling or lumps anywhere in the body • Weight loss or gain of 10 pounds or more for no known reason • Eating problems such as not feeling hungry, trouble swallowing, belly pain, or nausea and vomiting • Thickening or lump in the breast or other part of the body • Pain, especially new or with no known reason, that doesn’t go away or gets worse • Skin changes such as a lump that bleeds or turns scaly, a new mole or a change in a mole, a sore that does not heal, or a yellowish colour to the skin or eyes (jaundice) • Cough or hoarseness that does not go away • Unusual bleeding or bruising for no known reason • Change in bowel habits, such as constipation or diarrhoea, that doesn’t go away or a change in how your stools look • Bladder changes such as pain when passing urine, blood in the urine or needing to pass urine more or less often • Fever or nights sweats • Headaches • Vision or hearing problems • Mouth changes such as sores, bleeding, pain, or numbness Importance of early diagnosis of cancer Cancer doesn’t extensively spread at the early stages. Thus, when detected early, it is more likely to be treated successfully. Here’s why early cancer detection is important.  • Cancer, when spotted early, enhances the chances of survival. • Diagnosing it before it has spread too far obviously increases the scope of treatment and reduces the risk of poor treatment outcomes.  • It can help an individual to identify any abnormalities in the body and seek immediate clinical help.  Benefits of early diagnosis Early diagnosis of cancer ensures that common men are adequately sensitised to reach out to health professionals as soon as symptoms appear without being restricted by any sort of barriers – financial, logistical or psychological. It enables the healthcare staff to react appropriately and promptly due to adequate training and clear referral guidelines. Early diagnosis makes sure that the treatment services are affordably and conveniently accessible and that they deliver services of optimal quality.  Ways of early cancer diagnosis High-end technology has made early detection and diagnosis of cancer easy. There are several early diagnosis procedures. Physical exam in which an oncologist feels areas in the body for lumps indicating cancer. During this procedure, certain abnormalities are checked like changes in skin colour or enlargement of cancer, etc that may provide a hint of the presence of cancer.  Laboratory tests like that of the urine and blood may enable doctors to identify cancer-causing abnormalities.  Imaging tests like computerised tomography (CT) scan, bone scan, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography (PET) scan, ultrasound, X-ray and more help doctors examine bones and internal organs in a non-invasive way.  Biopsy where the doctor collects a sample of cells for testing is considered to be the only way to definitively diagnose cancer. It could be done in various ways depending on the type of cancer one is tested for.  Being aware of the early signs of cancer and the advantages of early detection is essential in securing positive treatment outcomes. Cancer can be fought and won if diagnosed early.  Content By: Dr. Vishal Rao, Director, Head Neck Surgical Oncology & Robotic Surgery, HCG Cancer Hospital, Bengaluru Disclaimer: The opinions expressed within this article are the personal opinions of the author. Chinese Yuan: Currency Hits Record Lows Against US Dollar – BBC https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/chinese-yuan-currency-hits-record-lows-against-us-dollar-bbc/ By Suranjana Tewari & Peter Hoskins BBC News Image source, Getty Images China’s yuan has hit fresh record lows against the surging US dollar. The internationally-traded yuan fell to its lowest level since data first became available in 2011. China’s domestic currency also reached its weakest point since the 2008 global financial crisis. It comes as the dollar continues to rise in value against other major currencies, after the US central bank raised interest rates again earlier this month. Meanwhile on Wednesday, other major stock market indexes across Asia fell sharply. Japan’s benchmark Nikkei index, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng and the Kospi in South Korea were down by more than 2% in morning trade. China’s central bank has been trying to slow the yuan’s slide by making it more expensive to bet against the currency. The People’s Bank of China (PBOC) also cut how much foreign currency banks have to hold. Many investors see the dollar as a safe place to put their money in times of trouble. That has helped to drive up its value against other currencies, including the British pound – which hit an all-time low against the dollar on Monday. Also on Wednesday, the dollar reached a fresh 20-year high against a closely-watched group of leading global currencies. The yuan’s slide is yet another example of a currency weakening as a result of the strong dollar. It is also about the very different paths China and the United States are taking in response to economic issues at home. The PBOC has been easing interest rates to revive growth in an economy ravaged by Covid lockdowns, while the US Federal Reserve is moving aggressively in the opposite direction as it tries to control inflation. Such a divergence is not wholly problematic, Joseph Capurso, head of international and sustainable economics at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia told the BBC. The fall in the currency’s value can actually be helpful for exporters within China, he said, because it would make their goods cheaper and so could increase demand. That said, exports only make up 20% of the Chinese economy these days, so a weak yuan will not turn around fundamental weakness domestically largely caused by Beijing’s zero-Covid strategy and a property crisis, said Mr Capurso. A weaker currency can also lead to investors pulling their money out of the country and uncertainty in financial markets – something Chinese officials will want to avoid with the Communist Party Congress coming up next month, when its president Xi Jinping is expected to secure an unprecedented third term in office. The yuan’s fall has caused weakness in other currencies of developed economies in the region, including the Australian and Singapore dollar as well as the South Korean won. Last week, the Bank of Japan intervened to support the yen for the first time since 1998, after the currency weakened against the dollar. Asia’s emerging markets are vulnerable too – as they sell raw materials and components to China’s factories and so have increasingly become dependent on the yuan. Washington has in the past accused China of intentionally devaluing its currency to keep exports cheap and imports from the US expensive. While the strong dollar has rattled world markets, it is unlikely to deter the Fed from continuing to raise rates. “The strong dollar is working for the US market,” Dimitri Zabelin at the London School of Economics’ foreign policy think-tank said. “It will be a consideration but it will not weigh as heavy as domestic concern about inflation.” You may also be interested in: Media caption, Watch: Ros Atkins On… How this year’s biggest stories connect

Amazons Big Fall Product Launch Event Tonight: Heres What To Expect The Indian Express
Amazon’s Big Fall Product Launch Event Tonight: Here’s What To Expect – The Indian Express https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/amazons-big-fall-product-launch-event-tonight-heres-what-to-expect-the-indian-express/ Amazon is holding its invite-only product launch event later tonight. It’s safe to assume we are about to learn more about next-generation Echo speakers and Ring devices. But else is there to learn? Unlike an Apple event or a Samsung Galaxy event, there’s no massive hype around Amazon’s fall event. We know for sure Amazon is known for showing crazy devices at its launch events. The event kicks off at 9: 30 pm IST on Wednesday, September 28. Here’s what you can expect to see at Amazon’s fall product event for 2022. How to watch Amazon’s 2022 fall event Amazon’s event is scheduled for Wednesday, September 28, so news should start coming as the launch is still on. Like the last few years, the event is invite-only for the press and won’t be streamed online. But we will be covering the event for you and will update you on the latest news and products. What to expect from Amazon’s 2022 event It is easy to guess that we are getting new Echo speakers at the event tonight. Expect the new Echo Dot and Echo Show 8, both speakers are due for an update. Even Amazon’s flagship Echo Studio was last updated two years ago. So it is safe to assume an updated Echo Studio with new internals inside and improved sound quality. Last year, the Echo Show 15 made its debut, a smart speaker resembling a picture frame that hangs on the wall. Speaking of home security, Amazon-owned Ring will also likely show a new camera lineup. During last year’s hardware launch from Amazon, the Always Home Camera stole the limelight. It’s essentially a drone designed to fly around inside your home. An announcement from Eero, the makers behind mesh Wi-Fi systems, is also expected. Unlike Apple or Google, Amazon is known for creating weird gadgets and its fall launch has become the perfect launch pad for showing off new ideas. Last year, the company unveiled the Amazon Glow for kids. We also got a look at Astro, a robot that combines Alexa and Ring technologies to become your digital dog on wheels.

California Coronavirus Updates: California Teachers More Pessimistic Since The Start Of The Pandemic, Survey Finds – Capital Public Radio News https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/california-coronavirus-updates-california-teachers-more-pessimistic-since-the-start-of-the-pandemic-survey-finds-capital-public-radio-news/ Find an updated count of COVID-19 cases in California and by county on our tracker here. Latest Updates California teachers more pessimistic since the start of the pandemic, survey finds  Over 4 million Americans have received new omicron-targeted booster Pfizer plans to roll out updated COVID-19 booster shots for children ages 5 to 11 Canada to soon drop vaccine mandate at US-Canada border Flu season could be headed to the U.S. early COVID-19 By The Numbers Tuesday, September 27 2:48 p.m.: California teachers more pessimistic since the start of the pandemic, survey finds  Many teachers in California have considered leaving the profession and more have a negative outlook on the job following the onset of the pandemic, according to a new survey. The study, published by the California Teachers Association and UCLA Center for the Transformation of Schools, found that around 40% of current TK-12 teachers have thought about leaving their job either to continue schooling or leave teaching entirely. The outlook of teachers has also become more negative since the start of the pandemic. Around 77% of teachers say that things are changing for the worse now, up from 45% pre-pandemic. Still, many teachers remain committed to the profession with 57% saying they are unlikely to leave teaching in the next three years, and 39% saying they are highly satisfied with their job. 12:48 p.m.: Over 4 million Americans have received new omicron-targeted booster More than 4 million Americans have rolled up their sleeves for the new omicron-specific booster shots. According to the Associated Press, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention posted the count on Thursday. The new shots target the most common omicron strains of the coronavirus. The U.S. has ordered 171 million doses of the new boosters for the fall. The first hint of public demand for the new boosters comes as health experts lamented President Joe Biden’s recent remark on 60 Minutes that “the pandemic is over.” The president later clarified his comment after facing heat from health experts, who worry the message might slow prevention efforts. Monday, September 26 11:58 a.m.: Pfizer plans to roll out updated COVID-19 booster shots for children ages 5 to 11 Pfizer is asking the Food and Drug Administration to expand the use of its updated COVID-19 booster shot to children ages 5 to 11. As reported by the Associated Press, some 4.4 million Americans have already received one of the updated boosters since they rolled out earlier this month for anyone 12 and older. Just like with Pfizer’s original vaccine, elementary school-aged children would get a third of the dose of the updated booster. The FDA is expected to decide soon. Pfizer and its partner BioNTech also announced that they have begun a study of the updated booster in children younger than 5. 11:02 a.m.: Canada to soon drop vaccine mandate at US-Canada border An official familiar with the matter says Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has signed off on Canada dropping the vaccine requirement for people who enter Canada at the end of September. Canada, like the United States, requires foreign nationals to be vaccinated when entering the country. According to the Associated Press, no change in the mandate is expected in the U.S. in the near term. Unvaccinated foreign travelers who are allowed to enter Canada are currently subjected to mandatory arrival tests and a 14-day quarantine. The officials say Trudeau has agreed to let a cabinet order enforcing mandatory COVID-19 vaccination requirements at the border expire Sept. 30. Saturday, September 24 12:30 p.m.: Flu season could be headed to the U.S. early After virtually disappearing for two years as the COVID-19 pandemic raged, influenza seems to be poised to stage a comeback this year in the U.S., NPR reports. And while COVID-19 is notoriously unpredictable and many restrictions have been lifted, there’s a good chance COVID cases will rise again this winter. During this year’s Southern Hemisphere winter, the flu returned to some countries like Australia, where it started ramping up months earlier than usual and caused one of the worst flu seasons in recent years. The combination of flu and coronavirus cases could seriously strain the health system, according to Dr. William Schaffner, an infectious disease professor at Vanderbilt University. The flu causes between an estimated 140,00 and 710,000 hospitalizations annually, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC is reporting that the flu is already starting to spread in parts of the south like Texas, and experts caution that very young kids who have not been exposed to flu for two years may be especially vulnerable. But experts doubt COVID and flu will hit the country at the same time because of something known as “viral interference,” a phenomenon that occurs when infection with one virus reduces the risk of catching another. “These two viruses may still both occur during the same season, but my gut feeling is they’re going to happen sequentially rather than both at the same time,” said Dr. Richard Webby, an infectious disease specialist at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “So I’m less concerned about the twindemic.” But Webby and others are still urging people to make sure everyone in their family gets a flu shot as soon as possible, especially if flu season arrives early. Friday, September 23 11:12 a.m.: California is easing mask-wearing recommendations California’s Department of Public Health released updated guidance for the use of face masks, dropping the recommendation for universal mask wearing in indoor public spaces. Moving forward, the CDPH will follow the CDC’s Community Level Tracker in making mask-wearing recommendations. The state plans to only strongly recommend mask wearing in crowded indoor settings for all residents when the community level is high. It’ll also allow certain congregate settings — including correctional facilities, homeless and emergency shelters and cooling centers — to be mask optional. This new guidance only applies when COVID-19 levels are low. As of Friday, Sacramento county is in a low community spread level. You can check your county with the CDC Community Level Tracker. Masking changes will take effect this Friday, Sept. 23, and don’t apply to health care and long-term care settings. “This shift in masking is consistent with California’s SMARTER Plan and gives Californians the information they should consider when deciding when to wear a mask, including the rate of spread in the community and personal risk,” said CDPH Director and State Public Health Officer Tomás Aragón in a statement. Here’s the CDPH’s masking recommendations, according to a deparment press release: When community COVID-19 levels are low, those at a lower risk for severe illness can choose to skip masking. Those at higher risk should consider wearing masks in crowded indoor public places. When community levels are media, those at a lower risk for severe illness to consider wearing masks in crowded indoor places. It’s recommended to wear a mask in crowded indoor spaces for those at higher risk. When community levels are high, it is recommended that everyone wears a mask indoors. Californians at higher risk for severe illness, including people who are unvaccinated, immunocompromised, have certain disabilities or underlying health conditions should take extra COVID-19 precautions. Thursday, September 22 11:16 a.m.: DOJ charges 48 people in COVID-19 pandemic funds scheme The Department of Justice has charged 48 people in what prosecutors have called a scheme to take advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic to fraud the U.S. government of $250 million. According to the Associated Press, prosecutors say the defendants obtained government funds under the guise of providing food to underprivileged children. But just a tiny fraction of the money went toward feeding kids, and the rest was instead laundered through shell companies and spent on property, luxury cars and travel. Prosecutors say it is the largest fraud case to date that deals with the misuse of government funds during the pandemic. 10:49 a.m.: Florida man pleads guilty to $7.2 million COVID-19 relief fraud A Florida man who fled the U.S. and was eventually arrested in Croatia has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $7.2 million in COVID-19 relief funds. As reported by the Associated Press, court records show that 46-year-old Don Cisternino pleaded guilty Tuesday in Orlando federal court to wire fraud, aggravated identity theft and illegal money transaction. He faces up to 32 years in federal prison at a scheduled hearing for Jan 5. According to the plea agreement, Cisternino submitted a fraudulent loan application for a Paycheck Protection Program loan in May 2020. He claimed his company had 441 employees and monthly payroll expenses in 2019 of more than $2.8 million. The company actually had no employees other than Cisternino. Wednesday, September 21 12:28 p.m.: FDA concedes delays in response to baby formula shortages U.S. health regulators say their response to the ongoing infant formula shortage was slowed by delays in processing a whistleblower complaint and test samples from the nation’s largest formula factory. According to the Associated Press, the Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday published its first formal report detailing the factors that led to the shortage, which forced the U.S. government to import formula from overseas. The report highlights several key problems at the regulatory agency. Those include unclear procedures for vett...

Business Started With £20 And A Hoover Goes National – Business News Wales https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/business-started-with-20-and-a-hoover-goes-national-business-news-wales/ Following a series of exciting client wins, leading commercial cleaning company Mrs Buckét is setting its sights on national growth, targeting clients UK-wide, in a bid to push turnover past the £10million mark. Founded in Swansea by CEO Rachael Flanagan with £20 and a hoover in 2005, Mrs Buckét has gone from strength-to-strength and has a growing portfolio of nationally and internationally renowned clients, including Panasonic, Sony, CBRE and the Wales Millennium Centre. Responding to increased interest from national customers, Rachael Flanagan, CEO of Mrs Buckét, said: “We’ve identified large workspaces, such as logistics firms, manufacturing plants, warehouse environments, automotive companies and technology businesses, where we have relevant experience and can hit the ground running with our knowledge of their sectors and expectations. “We already have operations in and around Bristol and this experience of scaling up is crucial to our growth plans. “Our constant investment in state-of-the-art equipment means that we are continuously innovating to ensure the highest quality service for our clients. The days of a cleaner pushing round a dirty mop are long gone. We want to work with people who understand the value of what we do and the fact that post-pandemic, having a top-quality cleaning service in place offers tangible benefits to all businesses.” As a Real Living Wage Employer, one of Rachael’s most ambitious goals is to change the perception of the cleaning industry. Rachael said: “It is so important to us that we’re leading the charge to change the way people perceive cleaners. There is a mistaken belief that cleaners are poorly educated, poorly paid and forced to work antisocial hours. That couldn’t be further from the truth and we want people to see the way the industry has evolved. “All our staff are paid at least the Real Living Wage, with opportunities for everyone to progress and be promoted. Having a successful, thriving, enthusiastic team is essential for our growth and future plans.” Mrs Buckét is a high-quality commercial cleaning and facilities management company. Established by Rachael Flanagan in 2005 when she was just 18, the business has grown to have 330 employees operating across south Wales and south west England.

The emergence of IaaS has had a strong impact on the IT hardware market. The biggest advantage of IaaS is that it allows enterprises to scale operations or introduce innovations in the workflow without the need to make substantial investments in storage and servers for the traditional on-premise hardware environment. At the same time, cloud-focused infrastructure spending is expected to increase in terms of server, disk storage, and networking hardware. Apple Watch Series 8 Review: Simply Excellent HT Tech
Apple Watch Series 8 Review: Simply Excellent HT Tech
Apple Watch Series 8 Review: Simply Excellent – HT Tech https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/apple-watch-series-8-review-simply-excellent-ht-tech/ The Apple Watch Series 8 improves upon the already brilliant Series 7 from last year. Who should buy it, and why? The Apple Watch reached its peak with the Series 6 as far as innovations are concerned. Ever since then, the upgrades come in just to make it edge further ahead. The Series 7 simply introduced a larger and more immersive display. While Apple reserved the athlete focused package for the Apple Watch Ultra, the Series 8 continues to be everyone’s luxury smartwatch and with just the bare minimum upgrades required to keep it relevant. The key part? It remains the best smartwatch money can buy. The theme on the Series 8 has been different than the Series 7 – introduce features for specific scenarios that keeps the Apple Watch in news, as well as makes it more desirable among the masses; both youngsters and the elderly. Hence, crash detection and fall detection take centerstage, while the temperature sensor comes into play for tracking female menstrual health. Do these features make the Series 8 compelling enough? Design The Apple Watch Series 7 got a major design update last year, which made it unmistakably unique. I am glad Apple leaves the design unchanged for the Series 8, since it continues to look stunning even after a year! The display melting over the edges and all its curvy surfaces make it an eye candy on wrists! Plus the attention to detail is exceptional. No Action button heree yet, although I hope Apple makes it standard on the Series 9. For all those new to the modern Apple Watch, the Series 8 is comfortable to wear. The aluminium version comes as standard with silicon straps but you can go for the Sport Loop, or Braided straps, if you fancy aesthetics. My 45mm version looks more like a wrist computer, and many may prefer the petite dimensions of the 42mm version. Smartness An area that the Apple Watch defined years ago! I don’t find any other smartwatch as smart and capable as the Apple Watch. Much of it comes down to its watchOS software, which in its ninth generation, is more polished than ever. watchOS 9 is a beautiful experience to be had, and the Apple Watch hardware justifies it well. The watch faces are beautiful and the customisation options are endless, whether you consider colour combinations, or the complications on your dial. The metropolitan watch face is the hero face for 2022 and on the Series 8, it simply looks gorgeous. Then there’s the regular smart stuff. You become a part of the Apple ecosystem with the Series 8 and that means you enjoy unparalleled integration between the watch and your iPhone. Notifications are instant and they let you respond to texts, and even check out Twitter links in preview. You can obviously take and make calls, and if you have the eSIM activated, you don’t even need your iPhone on you always. The app library is brilliant, and if any app on your iPhone has an Apple Watch companion app, it will be downloaded automatically. There are endless features to play with, my favourite one being the Walkie Talkie. All of that is made possible by the display, which is easily the best one I have seen on a watch. It’s rectangular, which makes it easy to read text, or see images. It goes fairly bright outdoors under the Sun, and the touch response is brilliant. Thanks to the variable refresh rate that drops it down to 1Hz, you get to have an Always On Display feature. It prevents twisting the wrist everytime to check the watch, but drains battery faster. Then there’s the crown, which makes controlling it easy. The crown makes it easy to scroll through lists, and even go back with a single press. The Home button takes you back to the watch face, or lets you alternate between active apps. But this year’s hero feature is Crash Detection and Fall Detection, both of which I am not interested to test out, and I hope I never have to use. The new gyroscope sensor along with the updated algorithms can detect up to 256G force, and in the event of a car crash, it will notify emergency services immediately. A YouTube creator tested the same in a simulated remote controlled car and found it actually worked. Good to know that. Health and Fitness The Apple Watch has always been presented as a fitness forward watch and not much changes on that front. I can still track my workout and keep an eye on my heart health. However, the big addition this year is the temperature sensor. For the time being, Apple makes it useful only for female menstrual health tracking. The sensor tracks body temperature while sleeping and uses the data to predict the ovulation dates, both in the past as well as present. For male users like me, there’s nothing this sensor can do. At least, it is better than being disabled, as it is on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5. What I was able to use was the ECG tracking, Blood Oxygen saturation, and heart rate – all of which the Apple Watch has been great at since years. All of these sensors are used in tandem to keep an eye on your heart health, and the Apple Watch continues to warn you about irregularities. Sleep tracking gets an upgrade too with watchOS 9. You can finally get to see your sleep data in various stages – REM, light, deep and awake. That said, you still need to manually activate sleep mode for monitoring, and if you accidentally disable it in between your sleep, the watch tracks nothing. My iPhone and Watch are tied to the Sleep Focus mode and an accidental tap led to losing all data, just before I got up from bed. Not smart enough, Apple. And then there’s workout monitoring – an area where the Apple Watch has been good. Workout detection is of big help – a 5 minute walking session automatically started tracking it. For those into serious fitness routines involving vigorous exercises, this could be of big help. I did not have a medically certified gadget to track the accuracy of the data, but fellow reviewers and users have always verified the same. The wellness features are as good as they always have been. The MindFullness feature is a cool way to relax and reflect. The same goes for the Breathe feature. Battery Life Battery stamina on the Apple Watch Series 8 seems to have remained largely unchanged. With the Always On Display active and an hour of workout tracking daily, the Series 8 could last up to 1.5 days on a single charge. Turning off the AOD helps it extend the battery stamina to the end of the second day. That’s not bad for an Apple Watch, but it is not great either for a smartwatch. Fast charging is available for global users but as always, India has to make do with slow charging; thanks to local regulations. It takes close to just over an hour to fill up the battery. Verdict As I said, the Apple Watch Series 8 is all about the features that keep the Apple Watch in the news. This is the first time Apple seems to have gone for upgrades that actually matter to most common people, instead of stuffing fancy health sensors that are meant only for a limited group of users. Crash Detection and Fall Detection form the safety net for Apple to make you consider its newest watch as a protective gear. The temperature sensor is a good start for catering to women centric health tracking but it does nothing for the male crowd, at least for now. Rest of the stuff is carried over from the Apple Watch Series 7, which is still brilliant a year later. And that makes the Apple Watch Series 8 an excellent choice. The Series 8 has everything you can expect from a smartwatch – a beautiful display, great design, wear comfort, plethora of smart features to act as an extension of your phone, and all the fitness tracking functions you can use. If you seek the best smartwatch experience money can afford, I think nothing beats the Apple Watch Series 8. Only if you need more athlete focused gear, it may be worthwhile to look at the Apple Watch Ultra. Product Name Apple Watch Series 8 Pros Superb build and design Unparalleled iOS integration Laden with smart features ECG tracking a bonus Fitness features Cons Erratic Sleep tracking Battery life Temp sensor is limited for females Specifications Platform support iOS OS watchOS 9 Wellness features ECG, Blood Oxygen Saturation
