Robinhood Debuts Web3 Crypto Wallet To 10K Customers — Beta Version Supports Polygon – Wallets Bitcoin News – Bitcoin News https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/robinhood-debuts-web3-crypto-wallet-to-10k-customers-beta-version-supports-polygon-wallets-bitcoin-news-bitcoin-news/
The American financial services company headquartered in Menlo Park, California, Robinhood Markets, Inc., announced the launch of a new non-custodial Web3 crypto wallet on Tuesday and said the product supports the Polygon blockchain network. The application is currently for iOS users only and Robinhood is rolling out the beta version of the Web3 wallet to 10,000 clients on the company’s waitlist.
Robinhood Launches Beta Web3 Crypto Wallet to 10,000 Select Customers
During the last 12 months, Robinhood Markets has shown a strong interest in building cryptocurrency products and services. At the end of January 2022, Robinhood started to roll out the beta version of its crypto wallet that supports bitcoin (BTC), dogecoin (DOGE), and ethereum (ETH). In April, Robinhood expanded the crypto wallet participants to 2 million customers and in mid-May, the financial services company hinted at the non-custodial Web3 wallet release.
The beta version of the Web3 wallet initially will support the Polygon (MATIC) network, a proof-of-stake (PoS) blockchain that’s compatible with Ethereum. Anything connected to the Polygon network like third-party decentralized finance (defi) protocols and decentralized applications (dapps) will support Robinhood’s Web3 wallet. Robinhood detailed on Tuesday that Polygon was chosen due to its inexpensive network fees, plus “scalability, [and] speed.”
Moreover, Polygon won’t be the Web3 wallet’s exclusive blockchain as Robinhood said that eventually, the Web3 wallet will be a “multichain wallet.” “A wallet worth the wait,” Robinhood said on Tuesday. “Beta testing is now live for 10K customers from the waitlist, with Polygon as the first blockchain supported.” Johann Kerbrat, the chief technology officer of Robinhood Crypto, explained that the Web3 wallet widens new opportunities and accessibility. Kerbrat said:
Like we did with the stock market, Robinhood Wallet strips away some of the complexities of Web3 and defi to make crypto more accessible to everyone.
While the wallet is a Web3 client, the product doesn’t support non-fungible tokens (NFTs) at the moment. However, the Web3 wallet can connect to defi applications, access liquidity pools, and participate in yield farming schemes. While 10,000 Robinhood customers are able to leverage the new Web3 wallet, the financial services company detailed that 1 million customers have registered for the waitlist.
“With this launch, Polygon [and] Robinhood are bringing millions of customers to onchain defi via low gas infrastructure,” Polygon’s official Twitter account said on Tuesday.

U.S. OKs Potential Sale Of Rounds For Abrams Tanks To Kuwait – Reuters https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/u-s-oks-potential-sale-of-rounds-for-abrams-tanks-to-kuwait-reuters/
Sept 27 (Reuters) – The U.S. State Department has approved the potential sale of operational and training rounds for M1A2 Abrams tanks to Kuwait in a deal valued at up to $250 million, the Pentagon said on Tuesday.
The Pentagon said the Kuwaiti government had requested to buy the ammunition and related equipment, and the proposed sale would improve Kuwait’s ability to meet current and future regional threats.
The equipment would provide Kuwait with the ability to deter and defend against land-based threats, and help protect border regions and key land-based infrastructure, the Pentagon said in a statement.

The proposed sale would not require the assignment of any additional U.S. government or contractor representatives to Kuwait, nor would it have any adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness, the Pentagon added.
The Pentagon’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified the U.S. Congress of the possible sale on Tuesday.
Despite approval by the State Department, the notification does not indicate that a contract has been signed or that negotiations have concluded.
The Pentagon said General Dynamics Corp (GD.N) was the prime contractor for the proposed sale.

Arm Strengthens Board Ahead Of prospective IPO Business Weekly
Arm Strengthens Board Ahead Of ‘prospective IPO’ – Business Weekly https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/arm-strengthens-board-ahead-of-prospective-ipo-business-weekly/
27 September, 2022 – 21:31 By Tony Quested
Arm has unveiled a new CFO and fortified its board ahead of what chief executive Rene Haas calls “a prospective IPO.”
The Cambridge superchip architect seems set on a US float early in 2023 despite media talk of a potential pre-IPO takeover by Korean company Samsung – one of the world’s largest producers of electronic devices.
Arm sources believe talks between the company and £250 billion revenue Samsung are designed to fortify the Cambridge-based business ahead of an IPO through a strategic technology alliance rather than a back channel takeover bid by the Koreans.
If NVIDIA from the US wasn’t allowed to buy Arm for upwards of $40 billion because of anti-competitive concerns then it is hard to see how Samsung would succeed – even if it wished to. And no-one at either business is talking about such a deal being on the cards.
Haas, meanwhile, is reinforcing the troops around him in the assumption that a Wall Street IPO will eventually be confirmed as the way to go for Japanese parent SoftBank whose boss Masayoshi Son is personally leading the strategy parley with Samsung.
Arm has unveiled the appointment of new board members Karen Dykstra, former Chief Financial and Administrative Officer of AOL, and Jeff Sine, co-founder and partner of Raine Group, with immediate effect. Coming from a global merchant bank, as Sine does, is a useful addition pre-IPO as SoftBank aims to raise around $60 bn.
It has also taken on Jason Child as chief financial officer to replace Inder Singh who will remain at Arm in an advisory role and assist in the transition before moving to a new opportunity.
Child has more than 30 years’ experience in leadership at high growth companies and scaling global finance functions. He will join Arm on November 2 and lead the company’s global finance and IT organisations, reporting to Rene Haas.
Haas said: “Jason’s extensive experience in financial management at public companies and IPO execution will be invaluable in preparation for a potential public listing.”
Child most recently served as senior vice-president and CFO at Splunk from 2019. Prior to Splunk, Child held multiple CFO positions including at Groupon, which he helped to take public in 2011, and as CFO at Amazon International.
“Since its founding, Arm has had an incredible history of innovation and leadership in the semi-conductor industry,” said Child. “Arm is a world-class, category leader and I am thrilled to join as CFO during this exciting time for the company.”
Karen Dykstra previously served as chief financial and administrative officer of AOL, a web portal and online service provider.
Jeff Sine is the co-founder and partner of The Raine Group, a global merchant bank focused on technology, media and communications.

Jenna Dewan Rocks Epic Legs And Butt While Pole Dancing In Fishnets – Women’s Health https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/jenna-dewan-rocks-epic-legs-and-butt-while-pole-dancing-in-fishnets-womens-health/
Jenna Dewan is busy preparing for her new movie to come out, and she’s got all the behind-the-scenes content anyone could ever want.
In a new Instagram video, the star shows off her pole dancing moves, along with her long, strong legs and sculpted booty.
Jenna loves Pilates, and at one point was doing three to four hour-long classes a week on Zoom.
Jenna Dewan captured everyone’s hearts as modern dancer Nora Clark in Step Up, and now she’s here with another dance movie you are most definitely going to need in your life.
Jenna is starring in a new Lifetime movie, Let’s Get Physical, and based on the BTS content the star has been sharing, it looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun. Jenna posted a snippet on Instagram of herself doing a bunch of impressive pole dancing moves and whew! Is it hot in here or…?
In the video, Jenna can be seen swinging around a pole in a leotard, fishnets, and heels, all while completely owning the tough exercise. Her legs, arms—everything—are super toned and strong as she swings around the pole.
“This movie is fun, funny, sexy, surprising and based on a true story like all the @lifetimetv movies i love and grew up on!” Jenna wrote in the caption. “I hope you have as much fun watching as we had making it!”
Understandably, people totally freaked out in the comments, which is fair considering Jenna’s sculpted legs and booty were on full display. “Wow, gorgeous looking ,” one person wrote. “Perfect legs Perfect ,” another said. “She’s LIVING , a third commented.
So what, exactly, does Jenna do to get so strong? Of course, she’s first and foremost a dancer, that much is already clear. And dancing involves a lot of hard cardio and toning movements.
But Jenna has also shared a lot of impressive pole dancing content lately while gearing up for her role, and she’s not screwing around here, either.
Example B:
Jenna is also big into Pilates, which is a great low-impact workout that helps target and tone various parts of the body. Jenna told Women’s Health that she’ll do three or four hour-long Zoom classes a week with her instructor, Kim Carruthers. “It gets you fit so fast, and you just feel stronger,” Jenna said. “The dancer in me really likes it because it activates the same muscles in my core.”
Jenna also digs Isaac Boots’s Instagram Live workouts, which she refers to as “dancer wonderfulness.”
Jenna makes sure to eat healthy foods, too. She told WH that she follows a mostly vegetarian diet and focuses on an 80/20 approach, which means that 80 percent of the time she eats “healthy” and 20 percent of the time, she indulges.
This content is imported from poll. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.
One of her go-tos is something her family calls the “Jenna Salad”: a chopped medley of carrots, bell peppers, broccoli, avocado, and sometimes even sauerkraut, topped with a veggie burger and dressed with lemon, olive oil, salt, and pepper.
Uh, yum! Sign me up for one of those, please!

Quick take:
Changwon has joined a growing list of South Korean cities pursuing metaverse projects.
The industrial city is looking to build a digital replica in the metaverse.
The city plans to spend 13 billion Korean won (about US$9.07 million) to build the industrial complex.
South Korea’s coastal city, Changwon has announced plans to build a digital version of itself in the metaverse. The southern peninsula industrial city plans to spend 13 billion Korean won (about US$9.07 million) to build the industrial complex in the metaverse.
The project is part of the city’s strategy to promote businesses and products in the digital world.
According to the announcement, Changwon will work with the Korea Land and Geospatial Informatix Corporation, an organisation established under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to build the digital twin.
The city will leverage digital twin technology, which enables organisations to recreate perfect inch-by-inch virtual models of physical objects.
The metaverse version of the city’s industrial complex will also be used as a testing ground for future advancements in technology and the environment.
Changwon is a midsized industrial city with a population of a little over a million. According to data from the city’s website, it has 2,871 local registered businesses in the industrial complex employing 122,625 people.
Commenting on the city’s digital strategy, Changwon mayor Hong Nam-pyo at Changwon’s digital platform conference last Friday said: “The city of Changwon will win the first position in the fourth industrial revolution through focusing on rebuilding the industrial structure with mobility, artificial intelligence, hyper-connection [technology] and more.”
Changwon’s latest digital project is part of the country’s grand strategy of becoming a leader in the metaverse economy. Earlier this year, the national government revealed a multi-pronged strategy that involved teaming up with over 200 metaverse and blockchain-focused companies to promote the adoption of the metaverse in the country.
In April, the country committed $186.7 million toward building the metaverse. Changwon is following in the footsteps of Seoul and Busan, which have already unveiled their blockchain strategies to lead the adoption of the technology in the country.
Asia has been among the leading early adopters of web3, with China, Singapore, and Japan hosting some of the largest corporations that have forayed into the next generation of the internet.
In Korea, companies like Netmarble and Cube Ent lead corporations in the metaverse and blockchain race, while China’s Alibaba Group, Tencent Holdings, and JD.com have also jumped on the web3 bandwagon.

FRANKFURT, Sept 27 (Reuters) – A giant blue euro sculpture in the heart of Frankfurt’s financial district has a new benefactor: The firm behind a sharia-compliant cryptocurrency.
The future of the sculpture, in the shadow of the European Central Bank’s former headquarters and long a symbol of Frankfurt’s role in managing the single European currency, was at risk after the banks that paid for its upkeep backed out.
On Tuesday, the sculpture’s owner, the Frankfurt Culture Committee, revealed that it had secured a new sponsor, saving it from having to auction the 14-metre object.
The sponsor is the technology developer Caiz, a Frankfurt-based company whose Caizcoin conforms to the principles of Islamic finance and laws.
“The euro symbol is photographed several hundred times a day, so our involvement also makes sense from a commercial perspective as a marketing effort,” Joerg Hansen, chief executive officer of Caiz development, told Reuters.
The sculpture was constructed to much fanfare in 2001, shortly ahead of the launch of euro notes and coins.
“The most photographed object in the city remains in Frankfurt am Main,” said Manfred Pohl, chair of the committee that owns it.
The cryptocurrency’s logo is prominently displayed on the sculpture’s base.
“We aren’t a threat to the euro. The euro will always exist,” Hansen said.

US Labor Department Recovers $8149 In Back Wages, Liquidated Damages For 2 Workers Terminated By Tucker Brewing Co. After Asking About Pay Practices – US Department Of Labor https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/us-labor-department-recovers-8149-in-back-wages-liquidated-damages-for-2-workers-terminated-by-tucker-brewing-co-after-asking-about-pay-practices-us-department-of-labor/
Employer: Tucker Brewing Co. LLC
Investigation site: 2003 S. Bibb Drive
Tucker, GA 30084
Investigation findings: The U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division found the employer retaliated illegally against two employees after each of them emailed the Tucker Brewing Co.’s owner and asked about their earnings and the employer’s tip-sharing requirements. The employer responded by terminating both workers’ employment despite neither having a history of disciplinary action. The written inquiry to company ownership about pay practices is a protected activity under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Back Wages and Liquidated Damages Recovered: The division recovered $8,149, in back wages and liquidated damages for the two workers after determining the termination violated federal law.
Quote: “The U.S. Department of Labor enforces federal laws that protect workers’ rights. In this case, two workers were well within their rights to ask about how they were being paid, especially when they believed the employer’s pay practices were unfair or incorrect,” said Wage and Hour Division District Director Steven Salazar in Atlanta. “Employers should review their pay and other employment practices to avoid legal and financial headaches. Listening to employees concerns about workplace compliance can be good for the business and all the company’s workers.”
Background: Tucker Brewing Co. LLC operates a brewery, restaurant and tasting room and has approximately 40 employees.
The Wage and Hour Division provides multiple tools to help employers understand their responsibilities and offers confidential compliance assistance to anyone with questions about how to comply with the law. Workers can call the division confidentially with questions – regardless of their immigration status – and the department can speak with callers in more than 200 languages. Sharon P. Pitt Named Browns Vice President For Information Technology Brown University
Sharon P. Pitt Named Brown’s Vice President For Information Technology – Brown University https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/sharon-p-pitt-named-browns-vice-president-for-information-technology-brown-university/
PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] — Sharon P. Pitt, an accomplished technology leader and strategist, has been appointed Brown University’s vice president for information technology and chief information officer, effective Dec. 1, 2022.
A longtime technology professional who has served in campus leadership roles at the University of Delaware, Binghamton University, George Mason University and North Carolina State University, Pitt brings decades of experience and a data-informed approach to information technology that supports and advances research and scholarship, while adeptly building infrastructure for future growth.
Pitt will join Brown in the top information technology role at the University, reporting to Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration Sarah C. Latham. Latham said that Pitt will use her wide-ranging talents and breadth of experience to play a critical role in supporting Brown’s research enterprise and leading innovative technology, data and digital solutions for faculty, staff and students.
“Sharon is well suited to advance Brown’s culture of innovation through a core IT infrastructure that supports teaching, research and the operational needs of the campus,” Latham said. “She possesses critical experience with instructional technology and research, and she’s also engaged in information technology at the national level, so she understands how to leverage new opportunities to ensure the University’s systems are secure and best in class.”
Pitt said she will draw on her expertise to help advance technology environments at Brown that support research and education, develop secure and sustainable systems to meet the ever-evolving needs of a complex university environment, and provide direction, innovation and service to the Brown community.
“I’ve spent much of my career in support of teaching and learning technologies, and I’m very excited to bring my unique perspective to Brown to advance progress in those areas,” Pitt said. “I’ll work responsively and collaboratively with Brown faculty, staff and students to support the different disciplines, which have distinct computation, networking and security needs, while advancing the strategic directions of the University and ensuring robust and reliable systems everywhere.”
Pitt joined the University of Delaware in 2017 as vice president for information technologies and chief information officer, where she has grown and strengthened online learning capabilities and expanded high-performing computing capacity for the university’s Data Science Institute, among her contributions.
Pitt will join Brown as it continues to strengthen its innovative education and interdisciplinary research and scholarship, as outlined in the University’s Building on Distinction strategic plan. As one example of an emerging project that will rely on cutting-edge technology, Brown is planning for a new integrated life sciences building in Providence for scholars in biology, medicine, brain science, bioengineering, public health and other disciplines to work together on pressing health-related issues.
“Sharon’s experience with instructional technology and research position her especially well to support Brown’s bold goals across a range of academic disciplines,” Latham said. “She also has the organizational design know-how, management skills and emotional intelligence to ensure her team members will thrive.”
As a mentor and a leader, Pitt is engaged at the national level of higher education technology leadership and serves on the boards of various organizations and in advisory and strategy groups, including Internet2 and EDUCAUSE. Pitt said she approaches her work through an institutional equity and diversity lens. For example, under her leadership at the University of Delaware, the IT team created a Women in IT program and supported and engaged in Delaware’s Girls Who Code program.
“One of things that really attracted me to Brown was its broad commitment to diversity, equity and belonging and the fact that Brown actually has assessment criteria and metrics around DEI for every department at the University,” Pitt said. “I’ve embraced DEI as a leader and will passionately continue to embrace DEI at Brown.”
The responsibilities in Pitt’s portfolio at Brown include oversight of most IT systems and services that support teaching and learning; technology support for research and business operations across the University’s schools and administrative functions; oversight of the budget and more than 200 staff members in the Office of Information Technology; and collaboration with the University Library in support of research computing, which is organized in the Center for Computation and Visualization, a unit of the Office of Information Technology.
“There’s very little that technology doesn’t touch at a university,” Pitt said. “A technology leader must create an environment where the community can utilize all of the technology tools in the most effective ways to serve the institution, ensure that data flows across those tools, and make sure faculty and students don’t have any technology barriers to their work. Brown has an expert IT team that I’m very excited to join and lead.”
Pitt earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and a master of architecture from Virginia Tech. She also holds a graduate certificate in higher education administration from George Mason University.
In joining Brown, Pitt will succeed Interim Chief Digital and Information Officer John Spadaro, who will continue to serve as deputy CIO. Her appointment follows a national search and input from campus stakeholders, as well as the participation of faculty, staff, students and others during the interview process.

Ross: Metaverse Already Has Its Problems, From Monetization To Groping – MyNorthwest https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/ross-metaverse-already-has-its-problems-from-monetization-to-groping-mynorthwest/
Mark Zuckerberg’s 3D Metaverse is moving full speed ahead.
Horizon Worlds, formerly Facebook Horizon, hasn’t done that well yet – a monthly population of only about 300,000 so far – but Meta’s new virtual reality headset will be officially unveiled in a few weeks … and Zuckerberg is also boosting production values.
More from Dave Ross: Physicist says time travel is impossible … but can’t make an absolute promise
One of the critiques of his Metaverse was that the avatars are only torsos – nothing below the belt.
Although maybe that’s a good thing.
There was a report during beta testing last year of a virtual groping incident, and that other characters actually encouraged it – which prompted Meta to add a “personal boundary” feature giving you the option of creating an invisible force field around your avatar.
Already the Metaverse needs social distancing!
Of course, this implies that the Metaverse actually allows groping behavior. How about designing a pervert filter so you don’t get victimized to begin with?
I suppose law-and-order types could adopt law enforcement avatars and investigate these crimes, but seriously – is any of this a good idea?
2D social media isn’t immersive enough, so now we’re going to strap a fat cell phone over our eyes to join a lawless 3D cartoon universe full of legless torsos who are all lying about who they are?
Actually … that might make a pretty cool Halloween party.
Except, we have to remember: This ultimately means hundreds of millions of our friends and co-workers will be strapping on these headsets.
And I’m sorry, but flailing around and talking to yourself with a Phone stuck to your head doesn’t make you look like you’re experiencing the future. It makes you look like a candidate for involuntary commitment.
I’m not against escapism — for people who are unable to navigate the real world.
I’m not against immersion – getting immersed in my CSPAN app is what makes the elliptical bearable.
But committing yourself to an artificial world and providing all that free eye-movement data so that Meta can hypnotize you into buying stuff?
I saw The Matrix — the original. I remember how difficult and painful it was to get out. So why would anyone voluntarily want in?

The Transforming Roomba Combo J7+ Can Mop Without Getting Your Carpet Wet – Ars Technica https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/the-transforming-roomba-combo-j7-can-mop-without-getting-your-carpet-wet-ars-technica/
How soon until this breaks? —
iRobot’s wild mop design can move from the top of the robot to the bottom.
Ron Amadeo – Sep 27, 2022 5:07 pm UTC
The Roombo Combo j7+. Sick spoiler, bro! Wait, that’s a mop?!
Roomba
The spoiler thing is a mop. The side flaps open and little arms swing it into the bottom of the robot.
iRobot
Here’s the bottom of the old j7 (not a mop) versus the new j7 (a mop). That mop pad is the bottom of the spoiler. iRobot really turned the j7+ into a mop with almost no other changes to the layout.
iRobot
The base station has no interaction with the mop; it just sucks out dust into a larger bin.
iRobot
The mop spoiler from the back.
iRobot
The mop can also be closed, which makes this Roomba look a lot more like a normal Roomba.
iRobot
iRobot—soon to be owned by Amazon—is announcing a flagship Roomba with a new feature: It can vacuum and mop simultaneously. Meet the Roomba Combo j7+, a $1,100 combo cleaning robot that ships on October 4.
iRobot is not doing a ground-up redesign of the j7+ series to add mop functionality. In fact, the update almost looks like a retrofit. The new j7 looks just like the old j7 with a camera in the front, a big dust bin in the back, and a bottom layout that is almost identical to the old bot. There’s a new dust bin and… is that a rear spoiler?
The mop functionality lives on the top (yes, the top) of the j7+, which has a big rear cutout now. The top of this cutout is plastic, and the bottom is the wet mop pad, which is connected to the robot by two side arms. When it’s time to do some mopping, a dramatic, Transformers-like transition occurs. Two flaps on the side of the Roomba open up, revealing that the top mop cutout is actually connected to the robot by a pair of swing arms. The cutout section on top of the robot is lifted up and swings down and under the robot in a big, 180-degree motion. Now you’re dragging a wet mop pad across the floor with minimal changes to the layout of the j7+.
It doesn’t sound like the j7+ will provide iRobot’s top-of-the-line mopping experience, which will still belong to the purpose-built Braava Jet M6. iRobot’s dedicated mop bot beats the j7+ because about 50 percent of the Braava’s body is a water tank, and it has a front water sprayer. The j7+ has a redesigned dust bin that is now a dust and water combo tank. The dust area is smaller to make way for a 210ml water tank. That means way less dust capacity, but that doesn’t really matter since the Roomba will just visit the base station to get cleaned out anytime the bin is full.
The mop raising in action. When it’s time to go over a carpet, the mop swings up to the top of the robot, so it will never get your carpet wet.
iRobot
The state of the art in combo cleaning robots is probably the $1,400 Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra or $1,550 Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni, both of which have a dust bin and water tank in the robot, along with a giant base station that empties the robot of dust, fills it with fresh water, and then washes the mop and stores the wastewater in a separate tank. iRobot has a long way to go to catch up to that.
The swing-arm setup looks cool, but you have to wonder about its longevity. These robots take a lot of abuse by bumping into everything and constantly dealing with dust—it’s just the nature of the job. That large motion requires a ton of small moving parts and tiny pivot points. Something like a Roborock, by contrast, just has a mop permanently affixed to the bottom of the robot, and the mop setup is on a variable-height suspension, so it can be lifted up slightly to avoid touching carpet. That works for thinner carpets, but if you have a serious pile going on, the robot can sink down too far and get your carpet wet. iRobot says the swing arm setup is designed to avoid that.
iRobot’s press release throws some shade at the competition, saying, “Other 2-in-1 mops lift only a few millimeters—if at all—and, as a result, can leave wet messes on many carpets or rugs. The Roomba Combo j7+ is the only 2-in-1 with a mop that lifts itself to the top of the robot, completely away from carpet and rugs. Two fully retracting, durable, metal mop arms raise the mop pad when the robot senses carpet and rugs, preventing unwanted wet messes.”
The new combo bot is up for preorder now.

South Korea Crypto Market Shrinks By 60% In Past Six Months – Are Investors Preparing A Move? – Cryptonews https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/south-korea-crypto-market-shrinks-by-60-in-past-six-months-are-investors-preparing-a-move-cryptonews/

The size of the South Korean crypto market has shrunk by a whopping 60% in the last six months as retail investors in the crypto-keen nation slash their crypto spending. But there is a suggestion that some traders in the nation are still dipping their toes in the market’s choppy waters, while others appear to be readying for more significant moves.
Hanguk Kyungjae reported that the South Korean crypto market cap is now worth $16.1 billion – down from close to $39 billion just half a year ago. The data was compiled by the regulatory Financial Services Commission (FSC).
Upbit 1-year trading volumes. (Source: Screenshot/CoinGecko)
Crypto-to-crypto transactions also dropped by a staggering 98%, suggesting a sharp drop in trading activity, with fiat-to-crypto/crypto-to-fiat transactions shrinking by 58%.
And while investors made some $1.2 trillion worth of “profits” from their crypto trading activities in the second half of 2021, that figure has shrunk back to under $450 million in the past six months.
‘Ant’ Investors Readying Market Move?
But while the data might appear to suggest that retail investors – known as “ants” in South Korean trading circles – have left the picture, it seems they are not yet ready to turn their backs on the market.
The FSC’s data, which pooled statistics from domestic exchanges, shows a sharp rise in the number of people opening bank account-liked crypto wallets in the past few months. Since the end of 2021, this figure has risen by 24% – with some 7 million such accounts now in existence. This could mean that some people are looking for an opportune moment to take the crypto plunge.
And exchange price comparisons appear to show that the kimchi premium is still alive and well, even if it, too, has reduced in size. Cryprice data at around UTC 11:10 am shows that prices on South Korean platforms such as Upbit and Bithumb remain around 0.2-0.3% higher than those on international exchanges such as Binance.
During previous market crunches, “ant” investors chose to exit the market – leading to the rise of a “kimchi bonus.”
The regulator added that the majority of exchange users were aged 30-39 and male.
U.S. Education Department Sued Over Bidens Student Loan Cancellation Plan Reuters
U.S. Education Department Sued Over Biden’s Student Loan Cancellation Plan – Reuters https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/u-s-education-department-sued-over-bidens-student-loan-cancellation-plan-reuters/
WASHINGTON, Sept 27 (Reuters) – Conservative group Pacific Legal Foundation filed a federal lawsuit Tuesday against the U.S. Department of Education with the intent of stopping President Joe Biden’s student loan cancellation plan.
The lawsuit, which was filed in the U.S. District Court for the South District of Indiana, comes a day after the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) said that Biden’s plan to cancel some student loan debt will cost $400 billion.
“Congress did not authorize the executive branch to unilaterally cancel student debt,” said Caleb Kruckenberg, an attorney at Pacific Legal Foundation. “It’s flagrantly illegal for the executive branch to create a $500 billion program by press release, and without statutory authority or even the basic notice and comment procedure for new regulations.”

Biden said in August the U.S. government will forgive $10,000 in student loans for millions of debt-saddled former college students, keeping a pledge he made in the 2020 campaign for the White House.
Critics of the plan raised concerns over its inflationary impact while the White House said the plan was fiscally justified because the federal deficit was on track for a $1.7 trillion reduction for fiscal 2022 compared with the prior year. The smaller deficit is largely due to the end of many COVID-19 aid programs and unexpectedly higher revenues.
The Education Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
As of June 30, 43 million borrowers held $1.6 trillion in federal student loans. About $430 billion of that debt will be canceled, the CBO estimated. The CBO previously projected that some of the funds canceled by Biden’s action would eventually have been forgiven anyway.
Reuters reported in August that nongovernment budget analysts projected the program’s total 10-year cost at $500 billion to $600 billion, including extending a repayment pause on all federal student loans through Dec. 31 and reducing future payments based on income.
“It (Biden’s plan) will only lead to more calls for government intervention in education at taxpayers’ expense,” said Steve Simpson, another attorney at Pacific Legal Foundation.

Award-winning filmmaker Shalini Kantayya will bring her knowledge of the dark side of technology to a Gallery Talk titled “Coded Bias: How Human Prejudice Creates Corrupt Technology.”
Her presentation will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at SUNY Cortland’s Dowd Gallery.
It’s a rare chance to meet an accomplished, award-winning filmmaker on campus face to face, according to Jaroslava Prihodova, director of Dowd Gallery, which is located in the Dowd Fine Arts Center at the corner of Prospect Terrace and Graham Avenue
“Shalini Kantayya is an accomplished filmmaker with a strong history of notable and award-winning projects,” Prihodova said. “Unfortunately, we often don’t have a chance to meet creatives behind the camera and ask direct questions. This event provides a unique opportunity for students and visitors to meet Kantayya and interact in person.”
Kantayya’s Gallery Talk begins at 5 p.m. in Old Main Brown Auditorium.
Gallery events are free and open to the public.
Kantayya’s recent documentaries, “Coded Bias” and “TikTok Boom,” will be screened ahead of the lecture, each examining the algorithms used — and abused — in day-to-day life. Sleek, silicon promises of ease and entertainment have also brought with them pressing concerns about privacy, bias and public surveillance.
“TikTok Boom” will take place at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 6 at Dowd Gallery.
The second film, “Coded Bias,” can be seen at 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 10, in Brown Auditorium.
“Coded Bias” was released in 2020 and questions whether liberties are in danger if the technology that runs the modern world is itself programmed with the unconscious bias of its creators. It was shown nationwide on PBS’ Independent Lens before it reached a worldwide audience through Netflix in 2021. The film was nominated for a Critics Choice award and an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Documentary.
Kantayya’s “TikTok Boom,” released this year, explores the rise of the popular social media app and the conflict between the culture of its global Gen-Z userbase and the data surveillance inherent to its use. It will debut on Independent Lens on Oct. 24.
“The lecture demonstrates that our world is built to the image of its creators without consideration for all of its inhabitants,” said Prihodova. “We often submit to constructed conditions without a second thought.
The screening of “TikTok Boom” will take place at 5 p.m. on Oct. 6 at Dowd Gallery, Dowd Fine Arts Center, Room 106. “Coded Bias” can be seen at 5 p.m. Oct. 10 at Brown Auditorium in Old Main. Kantayya’s Gallery Talk follows on Oct 11, taking place at in the Brown Auditorium at 5 p.m.
The films and lecture are related to the current exhibition at Dowd Gallery, artist Beth Livensperger’s “Runaway,” which itself examines the impact of rapid technological change. Prihodova says it’s part of Dowd Gallery’s goal to take on tough topics and spark useful conversation.
“Exhibitions organized by the gallery are carefully selected to fulfill the educational mission of the Art and Art History Department and provide space for questions, inspiration and a respite from the ordinary,” she said. “We want to offer thought-provoking shows that stimulate and further the education of all visitors, not only students.”
Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday or by appointment.
“Runaway” is partially funded by the Pollock-Krasner Foundation and the Provost’s Research Fellowship at the College of Staten Island, CUNY. SUNY Cortland support includes the Art and Art History Department, Art Exhibition Association, Cortland Auxiliary Services grant, Campus Artist and Lecture Series, Communication and Media Studies Department, Cultural and Intellectual Climate Committee, School of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office, Economics Department, Institutional Equity and Inclusion Office, Haines Fund, President’s Office, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs’ Office, Student Government Association.

E3 2023 Could Finally Fix The Worst Thing About Gamings Biggest Convention Inverse
E3 2023 Could Finally Fix The Worst Thing About Gaming’s Biggest Convention – Inverse https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/e3-2023-could-finally-fix-the-worst-thing-about-gamings-biggest-convention-inverse/
There was once a time when the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) was the most important video game trade in existence. The nearly week-long event offered a look at the hottest upcoming games, capitalizing on the excitement and energy of the industry’s fans. Its significance waned in recent years as digital showcases and one-off events became more frequent, particularly during the pandemic. But in partnership with New York Comic Con organizers Reedpop, the Entertainment Software Association is bringing E3 back as an in-person event in 2023 — but one recently announced major change to the convention’s overall format feels like a strong indication that E3 is about to embark on a huge comeback.
A new direction
E3 was always busy, but the show floor was much harder to navigate once it opened its doors to the general public.Kim Kulish/Corbis Entertainment/Getty Images
E3 2023 will take place in the Los Angeles Convention Center from June 13 to June 16, 2023. The show is organized by ReedPop, the same company in charge of PAX and New York Comic Con.
However, for the first time ever, the convention offers separate Business Days for media professionals from June 13 to June 15, with exclusive access to certain halls around the show floor. This is a huge step in the right direction, as it’ll hopefully make the event less crowded by spreading the attendance out over multiple days.
To industry workers and fans alike, attending E3 is a monumental occasion. It’s a chance to meet your favorite developers, pursue job opportunities, play early versions of upcoming games, and catch up with (or meet new) friends.
In 2017, E3 opened its doors to the public for the first time after being restricted to only industry workers for over 20 years. While this was an excellent opportunity for fans to attend the legendary event, it severely impacted the flow and made it much less desirable to all.
During recent years, it was difficult to work the show as a member of the media because there were simply too many people in attendance. This would often result in being late to demos or missing appointments entirely. In 2017, over 15,000 fans attended E3, inflating the total attendance to over 68,000 people.
On top of that, having so many in attendance at once made it easier to get sick, which is especially relevant during the pandemic. The new setup doesn’t completely eliminate the chance of getting sick, but it certainly makes things safer.
Now, with the dedicated Business Days, the media experience will hopefully be smoother, resulting in better game coverage, which in turn, benefits the readers/viewers, developers, and press.
More organized for all attendees
Now, fans will get to spend more time playing demos during E3 2023.Dan R. Krauss/Getty Images News/Getty Images
As a fan, E3 often felt disappointing because the massive attendance made it difficult to actually spend much time trying demos. In one day, you’ll likely spend several hours waiting in line just to play a handful of games for short periods, which simply isn’t worth it, especially given the expensive $250 entry fee (not including airfare and lodging).
Part of E3’s magic is getting to try new games that aren’t out yet, but when the show is so crowded, it quickly loses its appeal.
Sure, the media might stick around for the Consumer Days in 2023, but many will likely opt to skip it, making it less crowded for the general public. This rings true, especially since the media will have dedicated halls and booths separate from the general show floor, allowing consumers to spend more time playing and less time waiting.
It’s unclear if E3 will ever feel the way it once did, but the show’s new direction is certainly a step towards becoming relevant once more. It will be interesting to see how E3 2023 unfolds alongside other events like Summer Game Fest, which focus more on the digital components, but many of us are optimistic about the future.
E3 returns from June 13 to June 16, 2023.

Security lines at airports can be notoriously hard to predict and there is nothing worse than being stuck in line and panicking about missing your flight.
But if you want to make your life a little bit easier, passengers can sign up for Calgary Airport’s YYC Express to skip those long security lines.
Up to 48 hours before your flight departure time, you can head online and book a security screening slot in advance. Then all you have to do on the day of your flight is check-in, drop off any baggage and show up at security at the time of your appointment.
Best of all, the service is completely free.

Relax in the lounge
While there are a few lounges at the airport for high-flyers, Calgary Airport also has a lounge that anyone can pay to visit and it’s not as pricey as you’d think.
Calgary Airport’s Aspire Lounge is the perfect place to relax and grab a bite to eat before your flight.
The lounge has complimentary hot food and beverages (including alcohol), Wi-Fi, charging stations, personal tvs and showers.
For $46.20, it might actually work out cheaper than buying a meal and drinks at an airport restaurant.

Get to your gate in style
Anyone who’s visited Calgary Airport will know that it takes what feels like forever to get from one side of the terminal to the other.
One kind of genius thing Calgary Airport has is the YYC Link Shuttle, a little 10-seater shuffle bus that can pick you up from one side of the terminal and drives you across the terminal in about half the time.
There are stations labelled A to E to match up with gate numbers in the terminal so you can just get picked up from one location and ride in style. No more sweating your way through the airport with baggage in tow.
It’s also a complimentary service so why not take advantage.
Mortgages Withdrawn From Sale As Market Reels After Mini-Budget Sky News
Mortgages Withdrawn From Sale As Market Reels After Mini-Budget – Sky News https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/mortgages-withdrawn-from-sale-as-market-reels-after-mini-budget-sky-news/
The market turmoil caused by Friday’s seismic mini-budget has hit mortgage offerings as providers withdrew partial and entire lending ranges.
On Monday Virgin Money and Skipton Building Society temporarily withdrew their entire mortgage product range, while Halifax, the country’s largest mortgage lender, said it is to remove fee-paying mortgages.
Fee-paying mortgages allow borrowers to pay a fee in exchange for a lower interest rate.
Britons warned of 6% interest rates – live updates
Halifax’s changes are to take effect on Wednesday, while the Virgin Money and Skipton Building Society decisions have already taken effect.
A number of other, smaller, lenders are understood to have also paused the sale of fixed deals.
Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng’s announcement of the most extensive programme of tax cuts for 50 years, and the associated market upset, has traders expecting that the Bank of England will raise interest rates to 6% – even higher than it outlined last Thursday.
On Monday, the Bank fuelled those fears when, in a surprise statement, it said it “will not hesitate to change interest rates as necessary”.
That uncertainty around the future of rate rises has caused the withdrawal, one broker told Reuters.
“The uncertainty around the risk of an emergency rate rise is likely to see other lenders withdrawing products or increasing rates dramatically until they know the extent of how this all pans out,” Jamie Lennox, a director at Dimora Mortgages, said.

Why has the pound fallen to a record low?
Parent company Lloyds said Halifax was making the changes to its mortgage product offering “as a result of significant changes in the cost of funding”.
Virgin Money made its decision “given market conditions”, a spokesman said in a statement, with already submitted applications to be processed as normal.

NFTs In The Metaverse – Lexology https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/nfts-in-the-metaverse-lexology/
Over the past two years, headline grabbing news about the astronomical sale prices fetched for newly minted “Non-Fungible Tokens” or “NFTs” from popular artists and content creators, has catapulted this new form of digital asset into the public consciousness across the globe. In March 2021 the digital artist Mike Winkelmann (known as ‘Beeple’) sold an NFT of his piece “Everydays: The First 5000 Days” for an astonishing $69 million! That sale, according to auction house Christies, positioned Beeple as “among the top three most valuable living artists” on the planet.
Public interest in NFTs has grown considerably since Christie’s auction of Beeple’s work, but so too has the debate about their purpose and utility. This third article considers the uses and purposes of NFTs, the role they could play in the metaverse and the legal risks and issues such use could raise.
Everydays: The First 5000 Days
NFTs – a record of ownership
As explained in the first article of this series, at its core, an NFT is simply a record of ownership of a specific unique digital asset, such as a jpeg or gif image or an audio or video file, stored and authenticated on a blockchain, usually Ethereum. In the case of Beeple’s work, the purchaser can irrefutably prove to be the sole owner of the NFT of the work, as the distributed ledger technology employed by the blockchain makes it near impossible for the purchaser’s record of ownership to be disputed or doctored because so many nodes in the blockchain can confirm that ownership.
The rights attached to ownership of each NFT can vary considerably from a simple non-exclusive non-commercial licence to display the digital asset publicly, to additional real world rights to physical goods and services and exclusive unlockable content. A key benefit for artists and content creators who mint NFTs, is that they can attach, in smart contracts associated with the NFT, an automatic re-sale royalty payment (usually a proportion of the cryptocurrency sale price of the NFT), which is triggered every time the NFT is re-sold.
Whilst NFT sceptics see little point or value in being able to claim ownership of a specific digital image or video which, in practice, could be copied or reproduced online in most cases with a simple press of the “Ctrl-C” buttons, NFT advocates point to the blockchain record as a digital certificate of authenticity, akin to buying a Picasso painting authenticated by art experts at MoMA in New York, as opposed to buying a cheap Picasso reproduction on Amazon. A Beeple NFT minted by the artist himself and authenticated on the blockchain is a status symbol for its owner, conferring the same bragging rights that a physical real world art collector would have were he/she to exhibit the original The Weeping Woman painting by Picasso on a wall in their home.
NFTs in the metaverse
One of the key problems for NFT owners is how to exploit those bragging rights. At the moment, NFT owners are fairly limited in the way they can show off their NFTs, which are stored in their digital wallets. An NFT in a digital wallet is often accessible primarily on a mobile phone app or the owner’s personal computer, but with the advent of the metaverse, showing off your digital artwork and collectibles to a wide audience of envious peers may be about to get a lot easier!
However you view the future evolution of the metaverse, whether it’s as an immersive 3D world accessed via your Meta Quest VR headset, a more interactive avatar centric evolution of social networking and online meeting places, or simply as an enhanced form of gaming like the next generation of Roblox or Fortnite, it’s very likely that NFTs will be at its core.
One of the key attractions for entrants to the new world of the metaverse is likely to be the high degree of customisation and personalisation that users can implement when they create their digital identity. This might include buying distinctive items of clothing that they will “wear” on their metaverse avatars, hanging unique artwork in their digital homes or personal meeting spaces, or kitting themselves out with accessories to carry when they interact with other users, which could range from a designer handbag to a bejewelled sword. As in the real world, it would be surprising if metaverse users did not choose to associate their new identities with fashionable and recognisable real life premium brands; a fact not lost on internationals brands such as Gucci and Burberry, each of whom has already offered NFTs of their products for sale. In December 2021 sportswear giant, Nike, also took the bold step of purchasing virtual shoe company “RTFKT” who makes NFTs and sneakers for the metaverse.
NFTs therefore provide an opportunity for individuals to buy authentic, premium, iconic and fashionable brands to associate with their life in the metaverse; however, before you go and purchase that million dollar NFT artwork to adorn the wall of your virtual home, or a Gucci purse NFT that will never leave the clutch of your avatar’s hand, it would be wise to consider some of the legal risks inherent in the NFT space.
The legal risks
One familiar real life problem that metaverse users will face, particularly when it comes to artworks, is the difficulty in distinguishing between NFT sellers offering genuine, authentic and original art in contrast to pieces that have simply been copied by a scammer looking to make a quick buck. Highly respected glitch artist, Rosa Menkman, publicly complained about such a problem, after she found five of her pieces being advertised and sold as NFTs on the OpenSea platform without her authorisation. While NFT marketplace platforms can de-list NFTs of plagiarised works, this will be of little consolation to buyers who spend their cryptocurrency thinking they’ve purchased a genuine digital artwork as an NFT, only to find it’s the equivalent of a forgery. The lesson here for buyers is to do thorough due diligence on NFT sellers and not rely on the platform to carry out this investigative work for them. OpenSea’s terms and conditions make this clear, stating that: “… you bear responsibility for verifying the legitimacy, authenticity, and legality of NFTs that you purchase from third-party sellers” (Section 5 – OpenSea Terms of Service, December 31, 2021).
Although recent case law in the English courts has gone some way towards recognising NFTs as property under English law (Osbourne v Persons Unknown and Ozone [2022] EWHC 1021 (Comm) (10 March 2022)), metaverse users who suffer a loss when dealing in NFTs are likely to find themselves faced with another problem, identifying the person to sue! Unlike an auction of artwork at Sotheby’s or Christies, where the purchaser or seller (an individual or organisation) can be identified relatively easily, the anonymity provided by digital wallets in blockchain transactions can make it extremely difficult for aggrieved parties to a transaction to initiate a claim.
Although blockchain technology in theory creates a clear record of each digital wallet which has held a particular NFT, tracing digital wallets (a string of numbers and letters) to their owners can be a tricky feat. Not only does anonymity jeopardise buyers obtaining remedies against fraudulent sellers of NFTs, but it also throws up an obstacle for artists or brands seeking to enforce NFT licence terms against subsequent downstream purchasers of their NFTs. If a buyer breaches a typical term of the NFT licence by, for example, using the NFT commercially or reproducing and re-selling the NFT of the artwork or digital item, then there is little that licensor can do to enforce those terms if they do not have a real person to take action against, and do not know the jurisdiction in which to commence proceedings.
The ability to connect a real life person with a virtual self and a digital wallet will be increasingly important within the metaverse as commerce and trade in this space (including via NFTs) begins to thrive. As our digital and real lives become increasingly intertwined, metaverse stakeholders will need to help join the dots between real individuals and their virtual selves, to ensure that people remain responsible and accountable for what their avatars may do, sell or own in this new virtual reality

StarCompliance Unveils Key Findings Of Its Second Annual Crypto & Compliance Survey PR Newswire
StarCompliance Unveils Key Findings Of Its Second Annual Crypto & Compliance Survey – PR Newswire https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/starcompliance-unveils-key-findings-of-its-second-annual-crypto-compliance-survey-pr-newswire/
Findings shed light on need for clearer guidelines, as well as the greater adoption of policies and software solutions
, /PRNewswire/ — StarCompliance (“Star”), a leading provider of employee compliance technology solutions, today released the key findings of its Second Annual Crypto & Compliance Survey, which examined how firms in the financial marketplace are approaching employee crypto-trading compliance. The survey was conducted to build awareness and provide greater clarification around the monitoring of employee transactions and holdings for crypto assets.
Results show that across the total population of those firms surveyed year-on-year, 37% now have an employee crypto-trading policy in place, while another 31% intend to put such a policy in place this year. Firms that have no plans of establishing such a policy in 2022 indicated they would implement policies in accordance with regulatory guidance once that guidance is officially put into effect.
“As the adoption of crypto and digital assets continues to increase, firms need to place greater emphasis on the monitoring and tracking of employee crypto transactions and holdings, to ensure they meet regulatory standards set out for securities,” said Will Haggerty, Director of Product at Star. “With the publication of the results from our Crypto & Compliance Survey, we hope to clear up some of the confusion that remains over which digital assets are considered to be securities and which are not. We also hope to guide firms on the implementation of crypto-trading compliance best practices.”
Following are key findings from the Star Second Annual Crypto & Compliance Survey:
More than half (57%) of respondents estimate that their employees invest less than 25% of their tradable assets in crypto. However, 39% did not know how much of their employees’ tradable assets are actually invested in crypto.
The majority of respondents (63%) identify Millennials as the generation of employees that trade digital assets the most. This is likely because Millennials are the first “digital natives,” i.e., those for whom digital assets are not perceived as radically different from traditional assets.
60% of respondents expect formal regulation and guidance on employee crypto-asset trading activity in the next 18 months, with a small subset (12%) not expecting regulatory policies to be implemented anytime soon.
The number of firms reporting they are “Not Confident” in their understanding of how employees are trading crypto assets has decreased 13% from 2021. However, more than 40% of those surveyed still lack confidence in their understanding of the extent of the activity. This indicates there is still work to be done when it comes to improving crypto trade monitoring.
Star’s Crypto Pre-Clearance software solution enables firms to monitor the crypto assets their employees are trading, and take the first step toward preventing potential conflicts related to such activity. The software’s capabilities include trade-request pre-clearance: allowing employees who want to trade and sell crypto to do so easily while providing the business with visibility into this activity.
Find a further breakdown of the survey’s findings here.
Star staff will be taking a deep dive into the survey results – and providing guidance on how firms can equip themselves to stay compliant – at the company’s Synergy ’22 events in both London (September 27) and Washington, DC (October 23-25). Seats are still available. Learn more here.

BP, Chevron cut offshore oil production ahead of Hurricane Ian
Iraq says OPEC monitoring prices, seeks market balance
Coming up: API supply report at 4:30 p.m. EDT, 2030 GMT
NEW YORK, Sept 27 (Reuters) – Oil rose by $2 a barrel on Tuesday from a nine-month low a day earlier, supported by supply curbs in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico ahead of Hurricane Ian and a slight softening in the U.S. dollar.
Prices also drew support from analyst expectations of possible supply cuts from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and allies (OPEC+), which meets to set policy on Oct. 5.
Brent crude was up $2.35, or 2.8%, to $86.41 a barrel at 10:52 a.m. EDT (1452 GMT). On Monday it fell as low as $83.65, the lowest since January. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude was up $2.04, or 2.7%, at $78.74.

Crude soared after Russia invaded Ukraine in February, with Brent coming close to its all-time high of $147 in March. Recently, worries about recession, high interest rates and dollar strength have weighed.
“Oil is currently under the influence of financial forces,” said Tamas Varga of oil broker PVM. “In the meantime, relief rallies, like the one this morning caused by Hurricane Ian in the U.S. Gulf, are viewed as temporary phenomena.”
The dollar edged back from a 20-year high, which also supported oil. A strong dollar makes crude more expensive for buyers using other currencies.
Supply cuts also lent support. BP and Chevron said on Monday they had shut production at offshore platforms in the Gulf of Mexico as Hurricane Ian approached. read more
The outages may only provide a momentary reprieve for oil prices, Jim Ritterbusch, of Ritterbusch and Associates, said in a note.
“Outages are apt to prove brief,” Ritterbusch said, adding that the Gulf of Mexico represents “only about 15% of total U.S. production amidst this shale age” so the effect “is apt to be minimal.”
The oil price drop has raised speculation that OPEC+ could intervene. Iraq’s oil minister on Monday said the group was monitoring prices and did not want a sharp increase or a collapse. read more
“Only a production cut by OPEC+ can break the negative momentum in the short run,” said Giovanni Staunovo and Wayne Gordon of Swiss bank UBS.
The market is awaiting the latest U.S. inventory reports, which analysts expect will show a 300,000-barrel increase in crude stocks. The American Petroleum Institute’s report is out on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m EDT (2030 GMT).

GIGABYTE M27F A Gaming Monitor Review: 1080p 165Hz + Built-In KVM – TweakTown https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/gigabyte-m27f-a-gaming-monitor-review-1080p-165hz-built-in-kvm-tweaktown/
TweakTown’s Rating: 88%
The Bottom Line
GIGABYTE’s M27F-A gaming monitor is sub $200, features a native 1080p resolution and 165Hz refresh rate but the star of the show is the built-in KVM switch.
Pros
+ KVM built-in is super awesome, very useful for those who need it
+ 27-inch IPS panel provides beautiful colors, sharp visuals
+ 165Hz refresh rate = work + gaming smoothness
+ Sub $200 pricing won’t break the bank
Cons
– 1080p resolution isn’t the best, but it’s $180
Should you buy it?

Introduction
GIGABYTE’s new M27F A gaming monitor is the world’s first KVM gaming monitor, with the company sending over a review sample for me to check out… let’s dive right into it.

The GIGABYTE M27F-A gaming monitor, from the front
VIEW GALLERY – 34 IMAGES
The world’s first KVM monitor, hey? Is that something you’d use? If so… read on. If not… well, you might find the monitor has other perks like its 1080p resolution and 165Hz refresh rate. If 1440p and 4K are out of your budget — not just in terms of cost, but the GPU power required to run 1440p and 4K at 120FPS and over — then the GIGABYTE M27F A has its 1080p and 165Hz ready.
The KVM feature of the monitor lets you plug multiple devices into the monitor, and then use a single keyboard, monitor, and mouse to control it all. You can press the exclusive KVM button on the GIGABYTE M27F gaming monitor to quickly switch between inputs. This is a great option for those who have two computers, but don’t want to use two different sets of mice and keyboards.
USB Type-C is what enables the KVM abilities on the GIGABYTE M27F gaming monitor, which makes it especially useful if you are using a laptop and desktop PC. You can even access your smartphone or tablet through USB-C into the KVM feature of the monitor. This means you can use your monitor, mouse, and keyboard to control both your gaming PC and your laptop or smartphone.
A single press of the KVM button on the back of the monitor and you’ve switched between inputs.
Better yet, if you’re using your smartphone and want to play games or watch TV shows or movies on the bigger 27-inch IPS-based panel, you can. USB-C connectivity from your smartphone to the GIGABYTE M27F gaming monitor, a press of the KVM button on the back of the display, and you’re gaming on what is almost an IMAX-sized panel compared to your smartphone.
34
The KVM button on the back of the GIGABYTE M27F-A gaming monitor
You’ve also got the 165Hz refresh rate, so if you’ve got a flagship gaming smartphone that can handle 120/144/165Hz refresh rates, the GIGABYTE M27F gaming monitor and USB-C connectivity with the built-in KVM feature is a real selling point. Maybe not for everyone, but as a nice bonus feature on the side — well, I should say the back with the KVN button location — is great to see at this price point.
GIGABYTE has the M27F-A gaming monitor listed on Amazon for $179 at the time of writing.

Detailed Look
GIGABYTE ships the M27F A gaming monitor in a rather plain box, leaving the fancier retail boxes for the AORUS gaming monitors. The company does detail what’s going on with the GIGABYTE M27F A gaming monitor, telling you everything you need to know on the box.

The retail packaging of the GIGABYTE M27F A gaming monitor
The company does have a plastic strap wrapped around the styrofoam packaging, which keeps the styrofoam packaging from falling apart when you take the monitor out of the box. Speaking of pulling the GIGABYTE M27F A gaming monitor out of the box, you can pull the top styrofoam up which pulls the monitor up making it easier for you to pull it out of the box.

The back of the GIGABYTE M27F A gaming monitor
GIGABYTE uses a thin bezel around the M27F A gaming monitor, at least at the top and sides. The stand… pun intended… stands out, which is something I don’t really like for a smaller 27-inch monitor. But, some people do like their monitors up close, but that stand might get in the way depending on how close.
I use monitor stands for the most part, so it went directly onto the new Secretlab MAGNUS Monitor Arm.
GIGABYTE includes a monitor stand, but also VESA mounting on the M27F A gaming monitor

The built-in KVM on the back of the GIGABYTE M27F A
GIGABYTE has a nifty little KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) switch built directly into its M27F A gaming monitor, which means you can plug multiple sources into the single monitor and not have to have cables going everywhere, as well as multiple mice and keyboards on your desk.

Test System Specs
I’ve recently upgraded my major GPU test bed for 2022, but I will be upgrading again soon enough once Intel launches its new 13th Gen Core “Raptor Lake” CPUs and Z790 motherboards, and AMD with its upcoming Ryzen 7000 series “Zen 4” CPUs and X670E motherboards.
34
The new upgrades include the shift to the Intel Core i9-12900K processor, ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 Extreme motherboard, 64GB of Sabrent Rocket DDR5-4800 memory, and 8TB of Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSD goodness. Intel’s flagship Core i9-12900K is a beast, with the Alder Lake CPU packing 8 Performance cores (P-cores) and 8 Efficient cores (E-cores) at up to 5.2GHz.
Motherboard: ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 Extreme
34
I’ve got that installed into the bigger-than-life ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 Extreme motherboard, which is absolutely loaded to the brim with technologies and features that it houses everything you need. We’re talking about one of the best-looking designs on a motherboard yet, PCIe 5.0 support, enthusiast-grade 10GbE networking, and oh-so-much more.
RAM: 64GB Sabrent Rocket DDR5-4800
34
Sabrent helped out in a huge way by sending over 64GB of DDR5-4800 memory in the form of 4 x 16GB DDR5-4800 modules of its new Sabrent Rocket DDR5 memory. The company also helped out in an even bigger way, supplying us with a gigantic and super-fast 8TB model of its Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD.
SSD: 8TB Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus M.2
34
We’re talking about 7.5GB/sec+ (7500MB/sec) from a single M.2 SSD, along with a gigantic 8TB of capacity. The 2TB drives aren’t big enough for all of our game installs for GPU testing… the 4TB is much better, but the 8TB gives us room to move into 2023 without worrying about installing multiple games that are 200GB+ in size.
Some glory shots, of course.
Displays: ASUS ROG Strix 43-inch 4K 120Hz
ASUS has been a tight partner of TweakTown for many years, with the fine folks at ASUS Australia sending over their ROG Strix XG438Q and ROG Swift PG43UQ gaming monitors for our GPU test benches. They’re both capable of 4K 120Hz+ through their DisplayPort 1.4 connectivity.

34
I will be upgrading these in the near future, over to some DisplayPort 2.0-capable panels and some new HDMI 2.1-enabled 4K 165Hz panels in OLED form of course…given that next-gen GPUs are right around the corner, there has been no better time to upgrade your display or TV.
I’ve been working on this system for a while now, but now we’re stretching its legs with the newly-released PC port of Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered. Not just in 1080p or 1440p, not even in just 4K… but at 8K with a native resolution of 7680 x 4320. I’ve run through some of the very fastest GPU silicon on the planet.

What’s Hot, What’s Not
What’s Hot
KVM built-in is super useful: If you’ve ever used a KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) switch before then you know how useful it would be to have it built into the back of the monitor itself. This saves having any cables on your desk, but having the full use of two totally different desktops. Very, very useful if you’ve got multiple PCs like a work or regular PC and a gaming PC but want to use the same keyboard, display, and mouse.
27-inch IPS panel: GIGABYTE uses a high-quality IPS panel for its M27F-A gaming monitor, so while it’s not a high-end gaming monitor, you’re not getting a crappy panel. The IPS panel is a nice touch, together with the built-in KVM switch on the GIGABYTE M27F-A.

165Hz refresh rate: Anyone that reads TweakTown or follows me on Twitter will know that I’ve been using 100Hz+ refresh rate panels since the late 90s. I can’t do 60Hz even on a professional monitor, where I actually have an 8K 60FPS (Dell UP3218K) but the 60Hz really hurts my soul. GIGABYTE provides a g...
