This is a short film created as a proof of concept for a feature length movie, web series and video game.
Sango is a popular god of thunder from Oyo State in Nigeria with his signature thunderbolt axe that causes lightning and disruption when used by him. We explored his childhood a bit, from where it all started, the questions he asked, the answers he was given, the visions about his future encounters and ultimately how these experiences will shape his future. Having heard and known all this, what will his approach be towards events as they unfold?
The series will look at his life from birth to his mysterious disappearance. During the course of the series, we will explore the functionality of the civilization that existed during his time, bringing out key lessons about preservation of nature, healthy living, natural and herbal medicine, dangers of deforestation, preservation of water bodies and wildlife in the most creative way. Our goal is to educate and align with the sustainable development goals while also entertaining our audience.

Nengi Adoki on Becoming Joy, the Witch, in Juju Stories
Last December, Conrad Omodiagbe, a writer with Zikoko, reached out to me about my favourite Nollywood performance of the year. They were curating a list and wanted submissions from "Nollywood critics". I didn't have to think about it for long. The answer was Nengi Adoki as Joy in C.J. Obasi's Suffer The Witch from Surreal 16's anthology film Juju Stories. This is what I had to say about her performance: As Joy, Nengi Adoki is as sultry as she is menacing while looking like a Deeper Life babe. How did she achieve this? In the hands of a different actor, Joy could have been over-the-top, theatrical, but Nengi stays in control and keeps her restrained. It helps with the mystery surrounding the character and one could easily have believed her to be “simple, unassuming Joy” but for Nengi’s eyes. They betray Joy. They instil fear and let us know she isn’t exactly as she seems. It is one of the most terrific performances I have ever seen from Nollywood.
This revelatory, award-winning debut feature from codirectors (and twin brothers) Arie and Chuko Esiri is a heartrending and hopeful portrait of everyday human endurance in Lagos, Nigeria. Shot on richly textured 16 mm film and infused with the spirit of neorealism, Eyimofe (This Is My Desire) traces the journeys of two distantly connected strangers—Mofe (Jude Akuwudike), an electrician dealing with the fallout of a family tragedy, and Rosa (Temi Ami-Williams), a hairdresser supporting her pregnant teenage sister—as they each pursue their dream of starting a new life in Europe while bumping up against the harsh economic realities of a world in which every interaction is a transaction. From these intimate stories emerges a vivid snapshot of life in contemporary Lagos, whose social fabric is captured in all its vibrancy and complexity.
