De oudere 3voor12-lezer kent wellicht nog de avant-punk-groep Virgin Prunes, die back in the day onder de bezielende leiding van ene Gavin Friday de podia onveilig maakte met haar confronterende, theatrale shows. Gavin verliet de Prunes in 1986, om eind jaren tachtig zijn eerste soloplaat af te leveren, die een cabareteske sfeer uitademde die door vele recensenten en luisteraars gunstig gewaardeerd werd. Na nog een aantal platen en wat soundtracks stortte Friday zich op het toneel en andere artistieke uitingen om pas in 2011, na een muzikale stilte van meer dan een decennium, terug te komen met een nieuw werk, 'Catholic'. De burleske sfeer van weleer heeft hier plaats gemaakt voor een meer rustige, melancholieke sound met nostalgische wave-invloeden.
