Oscar Wilde’s Influence on an Irish Punk
As the previous post pointed out, Oscar Wilde’s witticisms were what made him famous in Victorian culture. However, beyond his cutting wit in both stories and plays is an overlooked aspect of…

Video: The Fortune Teller - narration by Gavin Friday
The acclaimed creation of New York City puppet maker Erik Sanko and designer Jessica Grindstaff, this work features a grotesque array of 15 artfully handcrafted figures in a dark comic tale unfolding in a fantastic Victorian world. There seven characters representing the seven deadly sins convene at a dead millionaire’s estate to claim their inheritance as determined by a fortune teller. One by one, each is delivered what they have coming to them, but perhaps not what they are expecting—a brutal, but suitable, demise.

The death of the Irish gothscene
The death of the Irish gothscene
"It is quite unbelievable that such a band (which would be alternative even by the standards of progressive cities like London or West Berlin) came out of hyperconservative Dublin of the late seventies."

They’ve been available from some outlets since early summer, but we thought we ought to flag up the latest pair of limited edition, 70th anniversary 10″s from Alan Vega before they disappear for good. Blast First Petite – the superb boutique label run by Mute’s Paul Smith – launched the 10″ series back in 2008, […]
