Weave in Crochet Ends Like a Pro: Crochet Techniques |Make and Do Crew
Learn how to weave in ends in crochet with our foolproof method! A step-by-step tutorial for a neat, secure finish that'll stand the test of time.
Step 1: Once you’ve finished the last stitch of your project, cut the yarn using a pair of sharp scissors. Leave a long tail around 6-8” long to weave in.  Step 2: Thread the yarn tail through the eye of your chosen tapestry needle. If you’re struggling, try using a needle threader.  Step 3: Decide which is the wrong side (WS) of your fabric. (If your stitches are reversible, just choose the side you don’t want to look at as much.) Insert your needle horizontally into a few stitches in the previous row, and pull the yarn through. Make sure the yarn is pulled snug, but not too tight, as this can change the tension and cause the fabric to pucker. <img decoding="async" width="1200" height="1200" src="https://makeanddocrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/how-to-weave-in-ends-crochet-14.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-44475" style="width:720px;height:auto" srcset="https://makeanddocrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/how-to-weave-in-ends-crochet-14.jpg 1200w, https://makeanddocrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/how-to-weave-in-ends-crochet-14-500x500.jpg 500w, https://makeanddocrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/how-to-weave-in-ends-crochet-14-400x400.jpg 400w, https://makeanddocrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/how-to-weave-in-ends-crochet-14-720x720.jpg 720w, https://makeanddocrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/how-to-weave-in-ends-crochet-14-360x360.jpg 360w, https://makeanddocrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/how-to-weave-in-ends-crochet-14-180x180.jpg 180w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" />Begin by weaving horizontally through the stitches in the previous row. Step 4: Change direction. Weave the needle vertically through a column of stitches and pull the yarn end through. <img decoding="async" width="1200" height="1200" src="https://makeanddocrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/how-to-weave-in-ends-crochet-15.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-44476" srcset="https://makeanddocrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/how-to-weave-in-ends-crochet-15.jpg 1200w, https://makeanddocrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/how-to-weave-in-ends-crochet-15-500x500.jpg 500w, https://makeanddocrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/how-to-weave-in-ends-crochet-15-400x400.jpg 400w, https://makeanddocrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/how-to-weave-in-ends-crochet-15-720x720.jpg 720w, https://makeanddocrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/how-to-weave-in-ends-crochet-15-360x360.jpg 360w, https://makeanddocrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/how-to-weave-in-ends-crochet-15-180x180.jpg 180w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" />Insert the thread vertically through a column of stitches and pull through. Step 5: Then, change direction again and weave the yarn horizontally in the opposite direction (towards the edge of the fabric). <img decoding="async" width="1200" height="1200" src="https://makeanddocrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/how-to-weave-in-ends-crochet-16.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-44477" srcset="https://makeanddocrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/how-to-weave-in-ends-crochet-16.jpg 1200w, https://makeanddocrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/how-to-weave-in-ends-crochet-16-500x500.jpg 500w, https://makeanddocrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/how-to-weave-in-ends-crochet-16-400x400.jpg 400w, https://makeanddocrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/how-to-weave-in-ends-crochet-16-720x720.jpg 720w, https://makeanddocrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/how-to-weave-in-ends-crochet-16-360x360.jpg 360w, https://makeanddocrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/how-to-weave-in-ends-crochet-16-180x180.jpg 180w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" />Now, weave the yarn tail horizontally in the opposite direction.  Step 6: Weave the yarn through the same horizontal stitches, but skip the first strand before inserting the needle so you don’t pull out what you just threaded through! <img decoding="async" width="1200" height="1200" src="https://makeanddocrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/how-to-weave-in-ends-crochet-17.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-44478" srcset="https://makeanddocrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/how-to-weave-in-ends-crochet-17.jpg 1200w, https://makeanddocrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/how-to-weave-in-ends-crochet-17-500x500.jpg 500w, https://makeanddocrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/how-to-weave-in-ends-crochet-17-400x400.jpg 400w, https://makeanddocrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/how-to-weave-in-ends-crochet-17-720x720.jpg 720w, https://makeanddocrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/how-to-weave-in-ends-crochet-17-360x360.jpg 360w, https://makeanddocrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/how-to-weave-in-ends-crochet-17-180x180.jpg 180w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" />Skip a strand and change direction, weaving back along the horizontal stitches.  Step 7: Again, skip a strand and change direction, weaving horizontally along the same row of stitches towards the edge of the fabric. (This will be the third time in this row.) <img decoding="async" width="1200" height="

Discover clever ways the stuff in your junk drawer will make you a better crocheter. DIY crochet tools that’ll save you cash by using things you already have.
First, choose a highlighter or Sharpie as your tool of choice.  Then, thread the end of your yarn through the clip on the pen’s lid.  Start winding the yarn around the pen, changing direction and angling it as you go.  When you’re done, slide the yarn cake off from the bottom of the pen (trust me, trying to pull it over the lid clip is a one-way ticket to frustration).
