Scope on Instagram: "Adding alt-text to images is an important part of web accessibility! ๐คณ Alt-text stands for alternative text and functions as an invisible description for any image presented on a website or app. It allows people using screen readers to understand images on a page, making it more accessible and allowing the full context of the content to be understood. Most social media sites and apps, including Instagram, now give us the option to add alt-text to our images. ๐ It doesnโt affect how an image is displayed but provides the content in an alternative text-based format. A screen reader will read this aloud and the person using the device is given context and meaning about how the image relates to the rest of the page. ๐ Itโs best to be specific when writing alt-text and stick to as few words as possible.
