NASA has flown many computers during the space shuttle program, they were used to run experiments and run software which didn't fit into the main flight computer. On STS-41 a Mac Portable was flown as part of a test of used interfaces in zero G, and this was repeated on STS-43, with the computer also being used to send the first email from space!
