My Thread hot takes (and why Bluesky might be toast)
File this post under "strong beliefs loosely held" because I may be wrong here, but this is what I'm feeling now. First, Threads is a massive hit. It looks like over 20 million people (update: 30 million) have joined the service already in the first 12 hours since launch. That's

Is Legend of Zelda Turing Complete?
Is Legend of Zelda Turing Complete?
I undertook a quest to build a computer in Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and this video documents the process. We'll introduce digital logic and its applications to computer engineering and we'll learn how to create a binary adder circuit, whether it's with electronics or rolling balls. The video ends by demonstrating a 2-bit full adder within the game. Whence and Whither the Web: Some Thoughts on Reclaim Open – Musings with Mo
And I recalled at one point the salience of some terms from my own background as a former full-time professor of theology, notably, the idea of anamnesis, which derives originally from a liturgical context and refers to “making present again,” or experiencing the meaning of past events as being fully present. Literally, it means” to not have amnesia,” and I think that’s one thing we were trying to do at Reclaim Open … to not have amnesia about the most formative and important elements of the Web. Mind you, this is not the same as “nostalgia,” although there were perhaps moments of that as well at our gathering. I think you can have both, in a way … you can look back wistfully at what was, while at the same time recommitting to making the best of the past present again.
