Defense Leaders Look To Strengthen Rules-Based Order Department Of Defense
Defense Leaders Look To Strengthen Rules-Based Order – Department Of Defense https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/defense-leaders-look-to-strengthen-rules-based-order-department-of-defense/
The defense leaders of the United States, Japan and Australia met today to strengthen the defense of the rules-based, international order that China and Russia are trying to dismantle.
Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III hosted Richard Marles, Australia’s deputy prime minister and defense minister, and Japanese Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada at U.S. Indo-Pacific Command headquarters in Hawaii to chart the way forward in the trilateral alliance.
Austin said the meeting is a way for the nations to build on their already close partnership. “America is proud to count Australia and Japan among our very closest allies,” he said at the start of the meeting. “For decades, our three democracies have worked shoulder-to-shoulder as an anchor for stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific and around the globe.”
The three countries share common values and common purposes, the secretary said, and are willing to defend an order that respects the rights of all nations to go about their business without bullying and intimidation.
“But today, that vision is threatened by autocratic countries that peddle disinformation and defy international rules and rely on coercion and intimidation,” Austin said. “We are deeply concerned by China’s increasingly aggressive and bullying behavior in the Taiwan Strait and elsewhere in the region.”
He also said the democracies have been drown closer together in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and its brutal war that threatens the very existence of the country.
Australia is halfway around the world from Ukraine, but the war is still felt there, and Australia has provided support and equipment to the embattled nation. “The global, rules-based order is being pressured in a way that we’ve not seen in many, many decades,” Marles said before the meeting. “We’re seeing that in Eastern Europe with the unprovoked aggression of Russia against Ukraine. And we are standing with Ukraine because we see that the principles which are engaged in that conflict go directly to Australia’s national interest because our interest lies in the upholding of the global rules-based order.”
Marles said China is exerting that same pressure in Australia’s backyard and standing together is the way forward. “We are aligned strategically today as closely as we ever have been,” he noted. “But that strategic alignment is built upon relationships of deep affection between Australia and the United States, between Australia and Japan, and between Japan and the United States. We see the trilateral between our three countries as only growing deeper and stronger, and we look very much forward today to pursuing that agenda.”
Hamada said Japan, too, believes the rules-based structure is under attack. “Today, the international community is faced with the severe security environments due to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, China’s unilateral change of status by force in the South and East China seas, and [the] remarkable development of North Korea’s nuclear and missile-related technologies among others,” he said through a translator. “The foundation of the international order has been undermined.”
Austin said the trilateral alliance makes the region safer. “I look forward to strengthening our trilateral defense cooperation today, including reaching out together in the region and expanding our trilateral military activities and deepening our technology cooperation,” he said. “Working together strengthens our integrated deterrence, and it moves us all toward a safer and more prosperous region.”

If you’ve ever wanted to experience European charm mixed with the heat and warmth of a sunny climate, Spain is probably at the top of your travel list. From the cobblestone streets to the year-round comfortable climate, Spain has it all. The beauty and charm of this European country have attracted visitors to the point that tourism has soared over the last couple of years.
According to Reuters, tourism in Spain has grown exponentially to the point that the first six months of 2022 brought in a pre-pandemic amount of visitors to the country. Reports state that in these first six months of 2022, Spain saw 7.5 million visitors who spent around 9 billion euros. With this shockingly strong tourism, it can start to feel a little packed in the country. Instead of visiting some of the most known tourist spots, it might be best to pack up to some of the quieter beach spots in Spain. While less known in comparison to other spots in the country, there’s no denying these hidden beaches in Spain still deliver some of that European charm and vacation feel you seek.
Hidden beaches in Spain you need to visit
lunamarina/Shutterstock
One of the alluring aspects of Spain is the many regions that make up the country. Each with its own customs and traditions, visiting these different regions is the best way to experience Spain as a whole.
There’s no better-hidden beach in Spain than Playa del Silencio in the Asturias region. Translating to Silent Beach, this beach is the epitome of relaxation and quiet. While getting here might be less than relaxing, the surrounding cliffs act as the perfect buffer between you and the outside world. Far from the neighboring town, this beach is exactly the place to be if you want sun, water, and quiet.
Another great choice if you want to avoid crowds is Playa de Rodas in Islas Cíes. Around 40 minutes away from the towns of Vigo and Baiona, this beach has everything you could want on a vacation. From warm, clear blue waters to white sand beaches, Playa de Rodas is a dream escape. Only reachable by boat or ferry, the crowds have yet to discover this gem that is a distance away from the city. However, the ferry tickets range around 20 euros, meaning it’s a day trip waiting to happen.
What you need to know before visiting Spain
Tatohra/Shutterstock
Before you pack up your beach essentials, the books you’ve been meaning to take on vacation with you, and your many bags of luggage, there are a few things to be aware of before visiting Spain.
Like any place you visit, cultures will have their own tradition you need to be respectful of before you visit. According to The Culture Trip, while siestas are optional, many shops are closed from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., so be prepared to get any essentials you may need during this two-hour window. According to Pangeanic, in a country with so many unique regions, you will find that you may hear more than just Spanish. Catalan is another popular language in the Catalonia region — different dialects of Catalan can also be heard throughout different regions. Another language you may hear if you visit the Basque Country is Basque. While Spanish is the popular language in the country, don’t be surprised if you find a few people speak to you in their regional tongue.
No matter where you go in Spain, it’s certain that you will find yourself loving the culture, food, and beaches of this country.

Career Communications Group (CCG) has announced that the first ever BEYA Metaquake Symposium will take place in February 2023 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC. Click here to register.
The BEYA Pre-College program will anchor the symposium, giving young people an opportunity to learn about the metaverse and the tools used to create metaverses. In addition to the traditional programming, students will engage in a scholastic metaverse building competition which will culminate in a metaverse hackathon.
The BEYA Pre-College Program has been an integral part of the Black Engineer of the Year Awards (BEYA) Conference since its inception. The program has partnered with organizations such as the Maryland Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Achievement (MESA) program, various school districts, and the Patriots Technology Training Center to present programs for middle school and high school students at the annual science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) conference held during Black History Month.
CCG is actively re-engaging with past BEYA recipients to induct a new class into the Alumni Hall of Fame. The 2023 honorees represent the wealth of resources for the next generation to benchmark their pursuit of excellence on their personal journey to becoming everything they can be.
The BEYA Metaquake Symposium will provide a deeper understanding of the technologies that are the foundation of the metaverse which include gaming, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), cryptocurrency, blockchain, NFTs, Web 3.0, education, and beyond.
Scheduled a week before the 2023 BEYA STEM Conference, the BEYA Metaquake Symposium creates a forum to explore technologies that are being harnessed by pioneers to create the metaverses.
Early adopters are blazing a trail by stitching together some of the foundational technologies to create products and experiences that are propelling the creation of metaverses much like Career Communications Group’s STEM City and the BEYA STEM digital twin experience (DTX) platforms, which offer yearlong programming.
The BEYA Metaquake Symposium will explore the ecosystem by bringing together educators, researchers, business professionals, artists, gamers, and even novelists to explore and learn more about the metaverse.
We want to start the conversation that answers the question most people ask when they hear about the metaverse: what is the metaverse and what does that mean for me?
The symposium is for anyone who is curious about the metaverse and wants to engage in discussions designed to expand their knowledge, identify their points of entry in this emerging technology, and understand how their future may evolve.
It’s for educators and students. Organizations that are exploring or engaging teams to develop and implement metaverse strategies. It’s for individuals who want to know how metaverse strategies can disrupt a carefully planned career trajectory. It’s for anyone who grapples with the jargon of the metaverse and wishes to gain knowledge that they can build on.
The BEYA Metaquake Symposium will take place in the historic Omni Shoreham Hotel and Resort located in the quiet urban residential neighborhood, Rock Creek Park in Washington, DC. Its location offers quick access to the Reagan National Airport, which is about 8 miles away. Dulles National and Baltimore-Washington International Airports are respectively 28 and 33 miles away. Solana’s price has taken a hit amid another major outage that has grinded the network activity to a halt.
Crypto pundit and host of NFT Alpha show, Nick Valdez first brought the development to public attention on Twitter after a series of speculative mentions. A few hours later, the official Solana Twitter handle confirmed the report in the early hours of Saturday.
According to the handle, the network experienced an outage and transactions were no longer being processed. The Solana team assured the community that network developers were already up and about, looking to resolve the issue.
This incident marks the fourth time Solana is experiencing a major outage this year. The network is now renowned within the crypto community for its occasional blackouts, as several proponents have cited the pattern as a reason to steer clear of the chain.
Following confirmation of the outage, Solana shared a document with instructions to validators on steps to take in order to assist in solving the issue. The network has been successfully restarted as of press time, and fully operational.
Despite the resolution, the network’s outage lasted for over 8 hours. Solana’s price has, in tandem with the majority of the markets, seen a dip within this timeframe. While it might be a reach to ascribe Solana’s current price situation to the recent outage, the asset has in the past undoubtedly suffered from a network blackout.
Solana is currently trading at $32.98 as of press time, down 3.43% in the past 24 hours. Since its fall from the lofty position of $47.9 on August 13, the asset has been caught in a bearish pattern. The asset saw a free fall from August 13 to August 19 which brought it below the $40-mark. Solana has not revisited the zone at $40 since then.
What Caused Solana’s Recent Outage?
Limited information has surfaced on the root cause of the issue. Laine Stakewiz, a blockchain company running Solana nodes, recently shared insight on the matter.
Several Solana validators stopped voting around 22:40 (UTC) on Friday. Operators received alerts of the issue and congregated on Discord to discuss it and find a solution. The network appeared to have been stuck as it was confirmed that new roots were not being produced.
According to Laine Stakewiz, it was noticed that a validator shared an invalid block. The incident on its own oughtn’t result in a major issue, as it could be resolved by the network. Notwithstanding, the validator seemed to have been on two “instances,” with both producing an invalid block. The act led to the creation of a fork.
The fork, in turn, resulted in an abstruse code path with validators stuck on it. Attempts to switch to the main Solana fork proved futile, leading to a halt in network activity. Upon discovering the core issue, developers noted that a cluster restart was required to resolve the outage.

We welcome the release from Venezuela of six wrongfully detained U.S. citizens — Jorge Toledo, Tomeu Vadell, José Luis Zambrano, Alirio Zambrano, Matthew Heath, and Osman Khan — as well as U.S. legal permanent resident Jose Pereira. After extraordinary efforts and perseverance across the State Department and wider U.S. government for many months, these wrongfully detained Americans and legal permanent resident are free and will soon be reunited with their loved ones. I am grateful to Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs Roger Carstens and the rest of our State Department team for their tireless efforts to achieve this outcome.
Although we celebrate the release of these U.S. nationals from Venezuela, we still have more work to do. The safety and security of Americans worldwide is my highest priority as Secretary of State, and we will continue to press for the release of all U.S. nationals wrongfully detained abroad.

Bill Gates Tells San Diego Audience That Genomics Is Key Technology For Dodging The Next Global Pandemic – Del Mar Times https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/bill-gates-tells-san-diego-audience-that-genomics-is-key-technology-for-dodging-the-next-global-pandemic-del-mar-times/
Improvements in global health outcomes over the last two decades stalled during the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting the need for increased innovation to catch back up.
Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, now co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, spotlighted the role gene sequencing and DNA-based pathogen surveillance can play in recovering from COVID-19 and blocking the next pandemic.
“We kind of have a duality here,” said Gates, who spoke Friday at Illumina’s Genomics Forum in San Diego. “The current health circumstances post-pandemic are not what we want them to be. It has been a gigantic setback.
“On the other hand, we have this innovation, much of it underpinned by genomics,” he continued. “So, on balance, I am very excited in how we can take that and use it for dramatic improvements in human health all over the world.”
Founded 22 years ago, the Gates Foundation focuses on health issues, particularly in developing countries, where infectious diseases can account for 4 in 5 deaths. Its work includes fighting malaria, malnutrition and infectious pathogens.
“We are using genomics to take a disease like malaria and track it, and eventually be able to achieve malaria eradication,” he said. “We are using genomics to solve malnutrition” through sequencing microbiome bacteria to better understand stomach health, as well as in agriculture to develop strong seeds for temperature, crop yield and disease resistance.
Global health initiatives since 2000 have helped cut the number of global deaths for children under 5 years old from 10 million to 5 million, Gates said. The United Nations’ Sustainable Development goal calls for reducing childhood deaths to 2.5 million by 2030.
In addition, polio is on the cusp of joining smallpox in being eradicated, said Gates. Malaria deaths, HIV deaths and tuberculosis deaths have fallen dramatically.
“Despite that progress, ever since the pandemic, we have either stalled or gone into reverse,” Gates said. “If you take the U.N.’s Sustainable Development goals set in 2015, with the aim of achieving them by 2030, we’re not in good shape.”
The Gates Foundation, whose donors include Berkshire Hathaway’s Warren Buffett and others, has pledged to increase annual spending on global health from $6 billion to $9 billion.
Gates has called for increased investment in the surveillance of infectious diseases, including monitoring wastewater for genetic markers of pathogens.
“We don’t want another pandemic,” he said. “It’s 20 million lives, $20 trillion dollars, huge deficits, learning loss, mental stress. We are going to be digging our way out of this for a long time.”
During the pandemic, the Gates Foundation partnered with Illumina, Centers for Disease Control Africa and others to set up surveillance programs in Africa, sequencing DNA of the coronavirus there to better understand variants.
“We have to accelerate innovation,” he said. “The only way we are going to get back on track is a combination of better tools, where genomic plays a big role, and better targeting, where surveillance enabled by genomics plays a big role.”

To the Editor,
We all have a voice. We all have a choice. This mid-term election on November 8 will have a number of very important races. Voters will be tasked to have a voice, and to make their choice.
The 5th Judicial District covers six counties, those being Jefferson, Oswego, Onondaga, Oneida, Lewis and Herkimer. There are four NYS Supreme Court seats open this election so please be sure to vote for all four. This year has resulted in both the Republican and Conservative Conventions nominating four Republican candidates: Kevin Kuehner, Julie Grow Denton, Mark Rose, and Will Ramseier.
All of these candidates have the experience and knowledge to be true leaders in the advocacy of our Justice System. I know because I have worked with Kevin for over four years watching him advocate for his clients, and have spent this year supporting them all in every way I can. They deeply care about their families and the communities in which they serve. I am confident they will serve all that reside in the 5th Judicial District with excellence and integrity. So have a voice, and make the right choice.

Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful Credit Card Review: Solid Sign-Up Bonus With Limited Perks The Points Guy
Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful Credit Card Review: Solid Sign-Up Bonus With Limited Perks – The Points Guy https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/marriott-bonvoy-bountiful-credit-card-review-solid-sign-up-bonus-with-limited-perks-the-points-guy/
Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful Card overview
The Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful Card is one of two brand-new Marriott cards that launched in September 2022. While it offers a lucrative sign-up bonus, the overall benefits fall short of what you’d might expect from a card that carries a $250 annual fee. Card rating*:
* Card rating is based on the opinion of TPG’s editors and is not influenced by the card issuer.
Marriott now has six cobranded cards available to new cardholders, with annual fees on those ranging from $0 to $650 per year. The Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful Card from Chase launched on Sept. 22, 2022 along with its nearly-identical sibling, the Marriott Bonvoy Bevy American Express Card. The Bountiful card sits in the middle of the range of annual fees on Marriott credit cards, with an annual fee of $250.

The card currently has a welcome offer of 125,000 Marriott Bonvoy bonus points after you use your new card to make $4,000 in eligible purchases within the first three months from account opening. Beyond that, cardholders enjoy complimentary Marriott Gold status along with higher earning rates for hotel purchases and in some common spending categories.
That said, the card is missing a feature that you may consider standard for a hotel credit card: a complimentary free night when you renew your card. This is often included with introductory cards that have annual fees less than $100, so does the Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful card offer enough value to offset that gap?
Here’s a full review of the Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful card to help you decide if it’s a fit for your wallet.
The information for the Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful card has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.
Who is this card for?
The Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful card could be a good option for those looking for automatic Marriott Bonvoy status but who aren’t willing to pay higher annual fees for premium or luxury credit cards that offer higher status levels. It may also be a good choice for people who want the consumer protections it offers when shopping or traveling — though these aren’t as robust as some higher-end cards.
THE POINTS GUY
Holders of the Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful enjoy automatic Gold Elite status for as long as the card remains open, without needing to reach the normal qualification threshold (25 nights per year). Additionally, when you swipe the card, you may be eligible for reimbursement if your trip is delayed or an item you purchased is damaged, and the annual fee that unlocks these protections is lower than other premium cards.
That said, if you’re looking to make the most of your points and miles strategy, you may have difficulty justifying the card — especially because of the lack of perks.

Remember that Chase has application restrictions that you should be aware of if you decide to apply. While this is a new card and we don’t have application data to confirm it, it’s a near certainty that this card will be subject to Chase’s 5/24 rule. If you’ve opened five or more credit cards in the past 24 months, and these can be seen on your credit report, then you will likely be denied when applying for this or any other credit card from Chase.
If you’re interested in the Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful card but are ineligible due to 5/24, you may want to consider its nearly-identical sibling, the Amex Marriott Bonvoy Bevy card.
Welcome offer: $1,050 in value
The Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful card has a current offer of 125,000 Marriott Bonvoy bonus points for applicants who use the new card to make $4,000 in eligible purchases within the first three months from account opening. Based on TPG’s valuation of Marriott Bonvoy points at 0.84 cents each, the 125,000 points are worth $1,050.
Remember that there are restrictions on new member credit card bonuses if you’ve had similar Marriott credit card products from American Express or Chase, or previous Starwood Preferred Guest cards from American Express. Be sure to carefully review the card’s offer details page to ensure you’re eligible.

Main benefits and perks
The Bonvoy Bountiful card offers some perks that could make it worthwhile for some travelers:
Marriott Gold Elite status: Primary cardholders (authorized users aren’t included) receive automatic Marriott Gold status as long as the account is open. TPG values Marriott’s Gold status at $800 per year. This is Marriott Bonvoy’s mid-tier level, and the most valuable benefits of Gold status are upgrades to enhanced rooms (when available) and a 25% points bonus on hotel spending. While many hotel credit cards offer a way to spend your way toward higher status levels, that’s noticeably absent on the Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful card.
Annual free night award via spending: When you spend at least $15,000 on eligible purchases during your cardmember year (not calendar year), you’ll earn a free night certificate that can cover a one-night stay costing up to 50,000 points. This is more valuable than those offered on lower-tier Marriott cards (which are capped at 35,000 points). However, those are available without a spending requirement, whereas the Bountiful requires $15,000 in spending per year. That said, there are some terrific uses of the 50,000-point free night certificate — though bear in mind that Marriott’s dynamic pricing may affect these properties, especially on high-demand dates.
Elite night credits: When you hold the Bountiful card, you’ll automatically receive 15 elite qualifying night credits per year. This benefit can be stacked with the nights you earn with a Marriott small-business card, which will put you 60% of the way to Platinum Elite status. However, this only applies to business cards. If you have another personal Marriott card from either Chase or American Express, you’re limited to just 15 nights.
Bonus points on each stay: Cardholders receive 1,000 bonus points on each eligible stay at hotels and resorts participating in the Marriott Bonvoy program. This is equivalent to an extra $8.40 worth of points based on TPG’s valuations.
Travel protections: This card offers trip delay insurance for trips delayed by more than 12 hours due to a covered reason when you pay for at least part of your trip with the Bountiful card (which includes paying the taxes and fees on your flight award redemption). You’ll also enjoy baggage delay protection — which reimburses up to $100 per day for essentials while waiting for your luggage — and lost luggage reimbursement of up to $3,000 per covered person per covered trip. You’ll also receive secondary car rental loss and damage insurance, roadside dispatch services (pay per use), travel accident insurance and travel emergency assistance services, which can connect you to emergency service providers during a time of need. Note that there may be charges for these services when provided by third parties.
Shopping protections: Purchases made with the card can get 120 days of purchase protection (up to $500 per claim and up to $50,000 per account) for theft, damage or loss of new items and up to one year of extended warranty coverage on warranties of three years or less on covered purchases worldwide (up to $10,000 per claim and up to $50,000 per account).
Related: Your guide to Chase’s trip insurance coverage
All that said, it’s worth mentioning what’s absent in the perks and benefits. In short, the card is missing a variety of things that are frequently found on cards with the same (or even lower) annual fees. This includes:
A free night award given automatically on the card’s account anniversary each year.
Reimbursement for the application fee for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck.
Statement credits for ancillary fees or other purchases.
Access to Priority Pass lounges.
While unlimited Priority Pass access is usually reserved for cards with higher fees — like the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express® Card and Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card — even the Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card allows cardholders to enter a participating lounge 10 times per year for a lower annual fee ($0 introductory fee the first year, then $95; see rates and fees). Note that enrollment is required in advance is required for some of these benefits.
Le Meridien Bora Bora. MARRIOTT
How to earn points
The Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful Card has similar earning rates to other Marriott credit cards like the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card and Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card. However, there are some notable differences.
For starters, Bountiful cardholders can earn 6 Marriott Bonvoy points per dollar on purchases at hotels participating in the Marriott Bonvoy program, which matches most other cobranded cards. Then, you’ll earn 4 points per dollar at restaurants worldwide and U.S. supermarkets (on the first $15,000 per year in combined purchases, then 1 point per dollar after reaching this limit). All other purchases will earn 2 points per dollar.
Related: Which credit card should you use for Marriott stays?
As noted previously, TPG’s valuations peg Marriott Bonvoy points at 0.84 cents apiece. This translates into a 5.04% return at Marriott properties, a 3.36% return for the first $15,000 spent at restaurants and supermarkets and a 1.68% return for all other purchases.
This is decent for loyal Marriott travelers who want to boost their balances of Bonvoy points, but it’s worth noting that other cards can provide a better option for earning rewards on non-bonus spending categorie...

Cloudflare Makes Hardware Security Keys Accessible For Millions Of Customers – Tech Business News https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/cloudflare-makes-hardware-security-keys-accessible-for-millions-of-customers-tech-business-news/
Cloudflare Democratizes Spoof-Proof Security; Makes Hardware Security Keys More Accessible Than Ever for Millions of Customers Because it’s Good for the Internet
Cloudflare has introduced a new service to make physical security keys the most economical and accessible method for safeguarding their employees and businesses.
As of 29th September, hardware security keys are an additional layer of protection and a method of MFA that has been proven to be phishing resistant.
Customers will be able to purchase Yubico’s security keys, the most secure hardware security keys and most resistant phishing-resistant multi-factor authentication (MFA), at an exclusive “good for the internet” price.
A Zero Trust security model means that no one is trusted, by default, regardless if they’re inside or outside of a corporate network. This means verification is required from everyone trying to gain access to resources on that organization’s network, including location, familiar devices, and passwords.
As a Cloudflare customer, you can now purchase Yubico’s Security Key Series at a much lower price—as little as $10—through your Cloudflare dashboard.
Larger corporations using Cloudflare and purchasing a multi-year YubiEnterprise Subscription for YubiKeys will receive a 50% discount on their first year of a 3+ year subscription.
Through this partnership, organisations of all sizes will be able to acquire, activate, and verify using security keys with ease and convenience.
Cloudflare prevented a breach from a SMS phishing attack that targeted more than 130 companies in July by employing Cloudflare Zero Trust paired with YubiKeys. While physical security keys help to prevent attacks, they work in conjunction with DNS filtering, browser isolation, cloud email security, and other security measures to prevent attacks, an assailant would need to compromise every signal.
Dane Knecht, SVP, Emerging Technology and Incubation at Cloudflare says we are always looking for ways to provide the highest possible security to its customers and the Internet at large.
“With phishing attacks becoming more prevalent, we want to help democratize additional security measures to further enhance the Cloudflare Zero Trust experience.”
“We experienced this firsthand and wanted to make using hardware security keys simple for any organisation,” says Knecht
According to Knecht working with Yubico is just another way Cloudflare is trying to make it as seamless as possible to arm our customers with the best Zero Trust security strategy.
“Being a Cloudflare Zero Trust customer introduces an easy, fast and affordable way to implement security keys in your organization, and all part of our greater mission to help build a better Internet.” he said
With the adoption of Yubico, Cloudflare is ensuring physical security keys are:
Economical: Rolling out security keys can be difficult for companies with smaller security teams, or those that have just begun using two-factor authentication.
By offering security keys at the most affordable rate, this offer makes the keys less of a financial burden on small companies.
Simple to use: Setting up security keys is easy for participating Cloudflare customers. For Administrators, Cloudflare Zero Trust makes it easy to use your security keys with any Identity Provider (IdP) and integrates both the keys and IdP into a comprehensive Zero Trust solution.
For employees, a simple guided prompt makes the action of touching a security key for authentication seamless. Security keys work across all devices, operating systems, and areas within an organization.
Accessible: Now Cloudflare customers can order Security Key Series, supporting FIDO-based authentication, directly through their dashboard.
The YubiKey 5 Series, available through YubiEnterprise Subscription, supports multiple authentication protocols, from legacy applications to modern FIDO-based apps and services. The exclusive “good for the Internet” pricing, helps to introduce the value and functionality of hardware keys to Cloudflare customers.
Stina Ehrenvard, CEO and co-founder, Yubico says Yubico pioneered the modern security key, the YubiKey, and continues to set the industry standard, protecting enterprise customers and consumers from security threats.
“Today’s attacks require modern MFA. Working with Cloudflare will help get more Security Keys and YubiKeys into the hands of their customers, to deliver on the combination of phishing-resistant MFA and provide peace of mind.” says Ehrenvard
The promotion will be available to Cloudflare customers until December 31, 2022.

Vulnerable Democratic Texas Congressman Vicente Gonzalez missed a number of votes in the House of Representatives this week, citing the “ongoing public health emergency” of COVID-19 as his reason to vote remotely while he attended a number of events in his home state instead.
The embattled Democrat opted to vote by proxy, the process in which a member of Congress can have another member vote on legislation in their absence, choosing Rep. Lou Correa, D-Calif., to vote in his stead.
“I continue to be unable to physically attend proceedings in the House Chamber due to the ongoing public health emergency and hereby grant the authority to caste my vote by proxy to the Honorable Lou Correa (California), who has agreed to serve as my proxy,” Gonzalez’s official proxy letter stated.
Of the votes missed by Gonzalez, the most high-profile was the Friday passage of a largely Democrat-backed bill that avoided a shutdown of the federal government, and was described by some as a crucial piece of legislation.

GOP candidate for New Mexico governor Mark Ronchetti tore into incumbent Democratic Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham on crime Friday during the first debate ahead of the November midterm elections.
Ronchetti said citizens of Albuquerque lived the reality of high crime every day, pushing back on Lujan Grisham’s suggestion that her Republican opponent didn’t understand the issue because he’s “never even been to a legislative session.”
“Are you kidding me? Everybody in Albuquerque lives it. We live it, governor — we live the crime everyday,” Ronchetti replied, according to video tweeted by the Republican Governor’s Association.
“You don’t have to go to the Roundhouse [state capitol] because you guys don’t have any crime in the Roundhouse. It’s the exact reason you’re so out of touch with the problems we have,” Ronchetti said.
Ronchetti accused Lujan Grisham of blaming high crime on a lack of police after making it easier to sue officers, which he said dampened recruitment for law enforcement.
Lujan Grisham at times went after her Republican opponent’s abortion position, stating: “If Mark Ronchetti was governor today, abortion would be illegal in the state of New Mexico.”
The Democrat incumbent accused Ronchetti of flip-flopping on his pro-life positions in order to get elected, according to a video tweeted from Lujan Grisham’s account.
“He’s playing right out of the Republican playbook nationally: Say anything to get elected, but work toward a national ban on abortion,” Lujan Grisham said.

Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Ohio., the Democratic nominee running in Ohio’s Senate race, claimed he could not attend a House vote Wednesday due to “the ongoing public health emergency,” but was actually at a fundraising event in Los Angeles.
“Instead of showing up to work in person and doing the job that Ohio taxpayers hired him to do, Tim Ryan has repeatedly abused the proxy voting system to further his own selfish political goals. It’s bad enough to not show up to work, but it’s even worse to lie about why you’re not showing up,” J.D. Vance, Ryan’s GOP midterm opponent, stated in a press release Friday. “Earlier this week, Ryan claimed he couldn’t show up to work in person due to ‘the ongoing public health emergency,’ while in reality, he was in California raising money at a high-dollar fundraiser with Hollywood elites.”
Ryan sent a letter to the House clerk Cheryl Johnson Wednesday, claiming COVID-19 was the reason he would be voting by proxy for a scheduled House meeting. It was later reported that Ryan traveled 2,000 miles away from his district to attend a fundraising event in Los Angeles.
“Let’s be clear: Tim Ryan isn’t constantly abusing the proxy system and refusing to vote in person in order to deliver better constituent services for Ohio taxpayers – he’s doing it to campaign and attend out of state fundraisers to further his own selfish political goals. It’s shameful: this is the type of behavior we see all too often from career politicians like Tim who have spent their entire adults lives living off the taxpayers’ dime, while not getting anything done for the people they’re suppose to represent.”

Former President Bill Clinton is urging his fellow Democrats who are seeking election to different offices this November not to allow ‘defund the police’ or ‘socialism’ rhetoric impact their election chances.
Clinton’s remarks, according to The National Desk , came Thursday during a Georgetown University symposium honoring the late Madeleine Albright when he was asked how the United States should handle threats against democracy.
“By winning elections,” Clinton said, according to the outlet. “You can’t go around complaining that people are violating democratic norms when the voters are rewarding them for it, either by staying home or being distracted by last-minute scare tactics.”
“I mean, we lost the last two weeks of the 2020 election on defund the police and socialism, and that was our fault,” Clinton added. “We shouldn’t let that happen.”
Clinton also insisted that “politics is about power” and that “elections are zero-sum games.”
“The best societies are not zero-sum games,” he said. “That’s where this term ‘norm’ comes in.”
“And it’s difficult for us to realize that we can’t beat them with the same strategy they beat us with, because we have a broader coalition,” he added. “The people in the middle, especially like suburban, middle-class voters, upper-middle-class voters, they’re easy to split, because they’ve got something to lose. … So all they have to do is sit around and think about what will scare them with this election.”
Clinton’s warning to Democrats comes as they seek to hold onto their slim majority in both the House and Senate.

Hollywood icon Barbara Streisand is teaming up with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) in an attempt to persuade voters to donate to the Democrats midterm election fund and claiming former President Donald Trump was “pushing fringe conspiracy theories and dangerous lies” during his time in office.
Streisand bashed Trump in the DCCC fundraising pitch, accusing him of “attacking” the democracy and insisting his pro-life stance was “threatening women’s rights.”
“And I’m so proud our country made the right choice by electing President Biden, protecting our House Majority, and flipping the Senate. But now we’re faced with another make-or-break choice,” said a fundraising email attributed to Streisand.
“Trump and his Republicans are doing all they can to retake power and end our Democrats’ important work. So we can either sit back, let them buy their way into power, and take us back to the Trump era,” she stated.
Streisand is a vocal Democratic supporter, recently flattering Gov. Gavin Newsom, D-Calif., on Twitter. “I am proud of @GavinNewsom as my Governor. He is speaking the truth about the disinformation and cruel stunts of right wing politicians,” she shared to social media.

A bill that would ban members of Congress and others from trading stocks may have made progress with its introduction in the House on Tuesday, but it does not appear that lawmakers will take any further action on it before November’s midterm elections.
The House will only be in session and conducting votes on Thursday and Friday before members return home for work in their districts – as well as campaigning – and members are not scheduled to return until November 14, the week after Election Day. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., told Punchbowl News that a vote on the stock bill is not likely to take place this week.”
Well, it was just introduced,” Hoyer said. “I gotta look at it and see what it is.”Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., who drafted the bill, told the outlet a failure to vote on the bill by Friday does not mean it has no future.

Republican Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas and Democratic gubernatorial nominee Beto O’Rourke go head-to-head on Friday evening, in the first and likely only in-person debate in the Lone Star State’s showdown for governor.
The debate — which is being hosted by the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg, along the U.S.-Mexico border — comes with three and a half weeks to go until early voting in Texas begins, and an average of the latest public opinion polls indicate the GOP incumbent holding a healthy upper single digit lead over his Democratic challenger.
Abbott clearly has the most to lose and O’Rourke the most to gain from the debate.
“Without question, if the status quo continues, Abbott is on a clear course to victory,” Texas based political scientist Mark Jones told Fox News. “Beto has everything to gain.”

How Many Times Has Mad Moneys Jim Cramer Failed To Time Crypto Markets? BeInCrypto
How Many Times Has Mad Money’s Jim Cramer Failed To Time Crypto Markets? – BeInCrypto https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/how-many-times-has-mad-moneys-jim-cramer-failed-to-time-crypto-markets-beincrypto/
It’s been said that “not all investors have the same investing style.” But Jim Cramer, with his contrarian strategy, arguably made many people poor. Now he has become a meme for his consistency in making wrong calls on the direction of cryptocurrency markets.
It is hard to know whether the stock market pundit believed in the calls he made regarding bitcoin over the years. Still, many of those that listened to him likely ended up on the losing side of whatever investment they made.
In July, for example, Cramer warned of a possible probe into crypto exchange Coinbase by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. “Very bad news” for the firm, he said. Just one week later, Coinbase’s stock soared by up to 50%.
People got angry. But it was not the first time it happened. Neither will it be the last. “Never take financial advice from Jim Cramer!” crypto podcaster, Tony Edward, shouted on Twitter at the time.
Shilling Coinbase
Cramer “shilled” Coinbase in the past. When the stock debuted on Nasdaq in April last year closing at $328, he stated that a fair price target for Coinbase (COIN) would be in the region of $600.
“This is all a scarcity, we don’t have any other way for mutual funds to be involved with crypto,” Cramer said during a discussion on “Squawk on the Street.” He recommended to buy the stock.
However, It’s been downhill ever since. Coinbase closed up 4% at $64 on Friday, and is down 80% since listing.
Who is Jim Cramer?
Jim Cramer is an American former hedge fund manager, stock market investor, author, and entrepreneur. The 67-year old is best known for hosting CNBC television’s “Mad Money”, a show that claims to “provide stock traders with all manner of investing advice.”
Cramer is seen as a so-called contrarian investor. He frequently goes against the tide, buying when everyone is selling. The thinking is that investors selling often do so in a panic, tending to overreact. This gives the contrarian investor a chance to buy stocks, or crypto, cheaply.
It worked for Cramer at some point. He made a $1 million profit when he bought tobacco firm Phillip Morris International as the share lost $10 billion in one day after an unfavorable court outcome, according to reports.
Alan Deutschman, the journalism professor and Silicon Valley correspondent for Fortune, has described Cramer’s investment style as “chameleon-like and erratic.” That’s because it could not be pinned down to a specific strategy.
Cramer has also shown interest in cryptocurrency. He bought a significant amount of bitcoin in 2020 when it traded for $12,000. He sold 50% of the cache when the price hit $64,000 the following year, and used the proceeds to “pay off a mortgage.”
“I will buy – like I usually do – as something comes down. I’ll get bigger and bigger and bigger,” said Cramer after he bought more bitcoin as it slipped to $17,000 in Dec. 2020. He proved his contrarian style.
With an estimated net worth of over $100 million, the TV host has often issued mixed signals regarding crypto. But he also recommended that investors put at least 5% of their portfolios in digital assets, preferably BTC and Ethereum, which he considers “legitimate”.
Cramer said recently Silicon Valley tech executives have started to consider the crypto industry a fraud, which benefited its promoters at the expense of retail investors. He followed this up with advice to “sell all speculative assets” like BTC, in part due to the Fed’s tightening monetary policy.
Cramer’s missed predictions
CNBC says Jim Cramer “plays with an open hand and wants to help investors invest smarter to build long-term wealth.” However, his forecasts on crypto markets have been anything but smart. People likely lost money following his tips.
In June 2021, the finance expert urged investors to be “patient” with bitcoin as markets went into a tailspin. Ten days later, Cramer could not take the decline anymore. He claimed BTC is “not going up because of structural reasons.”
“Sold all my Bitcoin. Don’t need it,” he told CNBC’s “Squawk Box”. In November of the same year, bitcoin reached an all-time high of $69,000. Earlier in the year, in March, Cramer boasted to have made lots of money from bitcoin as his investments in gold and stocks fell. He was bullish then.
More recently, Cramer made calls regarding BTC’s bottom – meaning the asset had reached a price beyond which it could not decline any further during a market cycle. He now claims crypto has no “real value” and will not hold its total market value above $1 trillion.
“Crypto really does seem to be imploding. Went from $3 trillion to $1 trillion. Why should it stop at $1 trillion? There’s no real value there,” he said.
This would be fine if he a) was a crypto skeptic all along b) ack that he was pushing it when it was going up and got call wrong. Instead he’s a bandwagoner on steroids- last guy to praise stuff bf it collapses and last guy to trash it bf it rebounds. WHERE IS INVERSE CRAMER ETF? https://t.co/6tIMdNO1m6
— Eric Balchunas (@EricBalchunas) July 6, 2022
Following Cramer’s statements in July, markets rallied. July has been the best month for bitcoin so far this year. The top cryptocurrency closed the month with a gain of 17%, and Ethereum, its next closest competitor, soared by 55%.
As the price of bitcoin tanked to $17,500 in June, he warned that “a lot of younger people and people who borrowed money, they are going to be gone today if they are not careful.” Cramer did not intend for this to sound like a “joke”.
Madman in a suit excites crypto
But the veteran investor has lost much of the goodwill in crypto. He is often laughed off as the madman of Crypto Twitter. These predictions – and more – have turned Cramer into the ultimate villain, cannon fodder for memes.
His negative comments inspire excitement in cryptocurrency. Crypto trader Algod, famed for predicting the collapse of the Terra ecosystem and taking a $1 million bet on it, said recently that he was actively trading against Cramer.
Algod revealed he “officially doubled” a trading account he started with $50,000 just so he would trade against the stock market pundit. “Honestly mind blowing how wrong one man can be,” tweeted the self-proclaimed “semi-retired degen.”
Cramer’s “erratic” financial advice has also led to the emergence of the “Inverse Cramer ETF,” a fictional Exchange-Traded Fund which tracks “the stock recommendations of Jim Cramer so you can do the opposite.” The account reached 107,000 followers on Twitter.
“I don’t care if a company is the next Amazon. If Jim Cramer is recommending the stock I will never buy,” accountant and financial news analyst, Genevieve Roch-Decter, tweeted after Cramer’s Coinbase miss in July.
After Cramer christened bitcoin’s collapse in June “Crypto Monday”, predicting the end for the crypto industry, Dogecoin (DOGE) co-creator Billy Markus responded sharply.
“Jim ya gotta shut up sometimes,” Markus replied to a Cramer tweet.

Letter: Congress Biden Must Not Harm Utah Tech Sector Standard-Examiner
Letter: Congress, Biden Must Not Harm Utah Tech Sector – Standard-Examiner https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/letter-congress-biden-must-not-harm-utah-tech-sector-standard-examiner/
Utah’s effort to set itself up as one of the leading tech hubs in the U.S. is working. The tech industry represents 9.6 percent of Utah’s workforce and directly adds $20.1 billion to our economy. Yet, some elected officials are pursuing anti-innovation legislation that will threaten the tech industry’s potential. As we rise to the top of tech hubs, tech companies and entrepreneurs want to feel secure in establishing Utah as their home base and know that Utah officials will continue to support policies that promote technological innovation.
Additionally, a new poll by NetChoice, an organization dedicated to making the internet safe for free enterprise and expression, found that 61 percent of Americans say the economy is the country’s biggest issue today. In a time of record high inflation, voters worry that regulating tech will increase prices, and 89 percent say Congress should focus on handling inflation rather than breaking up large tech companies. So why are elected officials pushing anti-innovation bills that will harm the industry contributing billions to our economy and creating thousands of jobs in Utah, only to increase the financial burden for consumers? This legislation will weaken our competitiveness and diminish the capacity for leading tech companies to invest in the future. Congress must listen to voters and focus on high priority issues such as the economy and inflation, not add to it. Utah should continue to be a place where technology talent, investors, educators, and businesses flourish.

We Wont Relent In Fighting Galamsey Abu Jinapor Ghana Business News
We Won’t Relent In Fighting Galamsey – Abu Jinapor – Ghana Business News https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/we-wont-relent-in-fighting-galamsey-abu-jinapor-ghana-business-news/
Abu Jinapor
Mr Samuel Abu Jinapor, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, says government is fully committed to fighting against illegal mining, popularly known as ‘galamsey’.
He said despite the numerous challenges hindering the fight against the menace, government would fight relentlessly to bring sanity in the small-scale mining industry.
The Minister was speaking at Datano in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region, when he led a team from the ministries of Information, and Lands and Forestry, to visit the Operation Halt II Team in the area.
He expressed satisfaction with the work done so far by the taskforce, led by the General Officer Commanding the Central Command, Brigadier General Joseph Aphour, and assured them of government’s support.
The military had been able to clear the site of illegal miners, demolished their infrastructure, and brought their operations to a halt, Mr Jinapor said.
The team arrested some illegal miners and seized excavators and other mining equipment, which were handed over to the police.
The Minister said the operation aimed at exposing the complexities involved in the illegal mining business.
He expressed surprise that the activities of those illegal miners could elude the security apparatus within the district, the traditional and local authorities, and mine inspectors.
“All of you can see the level of devastation, it should baffle all of us as citizens, policy-makers and as stakeholders in this fight, how an operation like this in the heart of the forest and in the far away areas of our country can go on without notice by the police, the chiefs, local political leadership and even the inspectorate division of the Minerals Commission here…”
“ These are questions I, as the Minister, intend to seek answers to,” Mr Jinapor said.
He reminded Ghanaians that the fight against galamsay was a collective one, requiring the co-operation of all citizens, particularly the members of the local communities, to ensure its success.
Brigadier General Aphour said six excavators were ceased and three were destroyed.
He commended the Minister for the visit and expressed optimism that with government’s support and that of the residents, they could come to grips with the menace.
The Minister later held a meeting with regional ministers and metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives from mining endemic areas across the country.
He charged them to take responsibility of leading the fight against illegal mining in their various jurisdictions.
“The fight can only be won if local leaders rally behind the Central Government”, he said.
He asked the regional and district security councils, headed by the regional ministers, as well as the MMDCEs to enforce the law to stem the menace.

Who can resist a beautiful ripe apple, Eve couldn’t. And autumn is the best time, of course, to give in to the temptation to make fresh apple-inspired recipes.
This is a versatile sip, sweet for the kiddos and also ripe for an adult sip with a rum spike. It’s a feel-good fall favorite that warms the heart and makes your home smell great, too.
Make this recipe on the stove or in the slow cooker; if making it for a dinner party or party, add the rum 15 minutes before guests arrive when using the slow cooker.

This classic, old-fashioned British fall treat gives a proper curtsy to ingredients like ginger, cinnamon, and treacle (blackstrap molasses). Parkin is similar to gingerbread and is ritually eaten on Bonfire Night, November 5, which celebrates the failure of Guy Fawkes to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605.

Autumn is sweet on sweet potatoes. And any grandmother will tell you, one of the most popular ways to enjoy the rust-colored, knobby starch is in a casserole. It goes a long way, is nourishing and delicious.

This was a favorite of mine growing up—my mom loved to celebrate apple season with this fragrant dish that would accompany pork chops or be served for dessert with vanilla ice cream. But it was always much more than the taste. “Loved the smell of them baking, it meant fall,” says my mom. “That’s the point, the smell of these fall dishes cooking.”

Autumn also ushers in a lovely new cocktail season. Chris Bidmead, the founder of Bar Methods, loves this fall-inspired, classic Old Fashioned that has “a lot of room for creativity.” The key: apples and unfiltered cider. “Since there is a natural sweetness in the cider, it doesn’t take much to help it along and make a beautiful syrup,” he says. The recipe calls for two parts cider to one part sugar in the raw. Pair that with a high rye bourbon to get a little more complexity and spice from the whiskey for some warmer notes. Then a few dashes of cardamon and angostura bitters along with a small pinch of salt. Stir that up and garnish with an apple slice and a cinnamon stick and you’re ready to sit outside with a warm flannel.
Autumn puts the spotlight on root vegetables, a true celebration of earth and harvest. One of the beauties of these vegetables is their versatility. There’s also the idea that root vegetables can be enjoyed with little effort. And, of course, they are prepared as sides to meat dishes but are also in all their glory as a plant-based meal.
“This dish is perfect for those that love things simple and easy, and it can be made in just a few minutes,” says Isla Zyair, blogger and plant-based nutritionist at Obesity Controllers Association.
“All you need are some root veggies of your choice—sweet potatoes, carrots, parsnips—olive oil or butter, rosemary or thyme leaves if desired, salt and pepper to season as needed, parchment paper or a silicone baking sheet liner (to prevent sticking), and time.”
Recipe: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F before arranging ingredients on the baking sheet. Drizzle with the desired amount of oil or butter, then place in the oven for 25 to 30 minutes until root veggies are crispy and golden.
In colonial times, this popular apple-centric dessert was loved. Fast forward to more recent decades, and former president Ronald Reagan had Apple Betty on his wish list while in the White House, and enjoyed it often (when he wasn’t eating jelly beans.)
The Yale Literary Magazine published a recipe for Apple Betty in 1964, which gave rise to its popularity. Make sure you check out this iconic dessert.

A combo of apple pie and apple cobbler, this is a classic American dessert that is more on the tart side than sweet, thanks to the addition of apple cider vinegar and three pounds of Granny Smith apples, with a top crust that soaks up a semi sweet-and-sour viscous pool of spiced juices as it bakes, says Brian Theis of The Infinite Feast. The dish gets its name from the act of “doturing” (breaking the crust with a knife and pushing it into the filling halfway through cooking), he says. The result is that the top crust absorbs the spicy apple juice while cooking.

Pumpkins and autumn, are a colorful combo. And pumpkin soup is a perennial favorite this time of year. It’s filling, healthy, and can be made with pure pumpkin or canned. And did you know that pumpkin is technically a fruit? Ginger is also harvested in autumn and used to liven up many fall favorite dishes from savory to sweet. This vegan Pumpkin Ginger Soup soup is the best of both worlds, plus it’s easy to make and freeze well to be enjoyed throughout the colder months.

We’re on a roll with pumpkins, and so why not a pumpkin roll, a favorite of home bakers in the cooler months to celebrate pumpkin season? Think jelly roll, but made with pumpkin filling rather than jelly.

Again, pumpkin. Apple cobblers are more widely known than pumpkin, and this recipe switches up the apple for pumpkin for one fine cobbler. Serve it cold or warm, with ice cream or whipped cream.

The seeds of the pumpkin don’t get as much attention as the fruit itself, but they are an autumnal treat. And couldn’t be any easier to make—scoop the seeds out of the pumpkin, let them dry overnight, and then pop them into the oven with a little olive oil, salt, and pepper. Toss in some cayenne if you want to spice them up.

Autumn is the best time of year for harvesting and shucking oysters, and the bivalves are feted with oyster festivals and oyster farm tours like the annual Wellfleet Oyster Festival on Cape Cod each October. There are many oyster dishes dating to the distant past, including this pearl of a recipe.

The tart little red berry is also celebrated in fall, on the Cape and in other parts of the country, like Wisconsin and Oregon. One of the most popular cranberry-themed recipes is for cranberry relish at Thanksgiving. But an early fall treat, when those cranberries are being harvested and the days are still warmish, is a Cape Codder, a two-ingredient cocktail made with vodka and cranberry juice over ice and garnished with a lime.
The cocktail can be traced to Ocean Spray, which first marketed the cranberry juice, vodka, and lime cocktail as the Red Devil in the 1940s. It’s a perfect drink to toast the fall season.

We Want To Utilise Metaverse To Enable Monetisation Opportunities For Creators: VP, Global Business Group At Meta – BusinessLine https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/we-want-to-utilise-metaverse-to-enable-monetisation-opportunities-for-creators-vp-global-business-group-at-meta-businessline/
As the introduction of Reels boosts engagement across Meta’s various platforms, VP Global Business Group at Meta Nicola Mendelsohn, emphasised Meta’s goal to utilise metaverse technologies to create monetisation opportunities for creators. Meta claims that since the introduction of Reels on Instagram in 2020, the company has been able to create a massive community of creators, which has also driven engagement on the platform.
Consequently, Mendelsohn notes that creators can utilise Meta’s pivot to Web 3.0 to truly drive further engagement: from creating digital collectibles, 3D avatars, and NFTs, to utilising augmented and virtual reality for monetisation purposes.
Monetisation opportunities
Meta’s emphasis on the utilisation of Web 3.0 for monetisation purposes is novel, especially as presently, the majority of monetisation opportunities on Reels are restricted to product sponsorships and dedicated creator funds for a certain category of influencers on Meta’s various platforms.
Speaking on Creator Day 2022 in Mumbai on Friday, Mendelsohn noted that influencers and brands can bring NFTs to a wider audience using their follower base on Meta’s various platforms. “We want to help create monetisation opportunities, such as bringing NFTs to a wider audience. By enabling sharing of digital collectibles on Instagram. We see brands and creators utilisation of AR, VR and in an amazingly creative way, which will only continue as we expand further towards metaverse,” she said.
“We are committed to being a playground where creators and users can interact and redefine engagement,” Mendelsohn added.
Ajit Mohan, MD & VP, Facebook India (Meta) who also attended the event noted, “We are big fans of creators. Everything we do, all our products and features are based on one thought: how can we empower the people who have a story to tell, an insight to share, a song to dance to? Without a doubt, a key pillar of India’s new economy is going to be built and fuelled by people like you.”

New Book ‘Google Glass: Remember The Internet No. 3’ Chronicles ‘carnival Of Failure’ – Business Insider https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/new-book-google-glass-remember-the-internet-no-3-chronicles-carnival-of-failure-business-insider/
A new book, “Google Glass: Remember the Internet no. 3” chronicles the development of the wearable device.
Author Quinn Myers described Google Glass’ debut as a “carnival of failure.”
Despite significant hype from developers and fans, Google Glass never made it to the commercial market.

Google Glass, the early 2010s would-be phenom that never made it to market, made a lasting impact on augmented reality technology — and its public perception — despite the device’s lackluster launch and eventual discontinuation.
The wearable, computerized glasses aimed to revolutionize personal tech and replace cell phones, but its public debut was a “carnival of failure,” according to Quinn Myers, author of “Google Glass: Remember the Internet no. 3.”
Released on September 20, the book chronicles the creation of the wearable device through a series of interviews with its developers, fans, and critics, tracking its meteoric rise and fizzling end. While the devices have been largely relegated to punchlines of jokes about tech bros, Myers argues the Google Glass legacy offers lessons on privacy, AR technology, and corporate responsibility.
“Dunking on Glass is not just fun and easy: it’s our only hope if we want a future where corporations can still feel shame and where our tech overlords can still be persuaded to help solve our most dire problems instead of creating new ones that destroy us all,” Myers writes in the conclusion his book.
Though Myers condemns the attempt Google made to “reprogram the entire human race” using Glass, he argues the devices may have succeeded were it not for key flaws — not just in the technology and design, which have been mercilessly mocked for years — but because of poor marketing that exacerbated the divide between the ‘haves’ and ‘have nots.’
Google did not respond to Insider’s request for comment.
Headaches, both literal and figurative
Announced on April 4, 2012, the ambitious project aimed to allow users to stay connected “through notifications about what’s going on in the digital world, and being able to socially share your experiences,” Sebastian Thrun, who founded the Google X research lab responsible for Google Glass and other projects like self-driving cars, said in an interview for Myers’ book.
A team of Google engineers sought to develop the technology needed to achieve that by utilizing augmented reality to project information through the lenses of glasses, allowing users to gesture and speak to control the device.
Early iterations, some so large they had to be stored in backpacks, suffered from issues like overheating and short battery life. Even as the tech advanced, Glass users reported headaches, dizziness, and eye strain because they were forced to look toward unnatural angles to use the device.

“When we started, I was always excited about augmented reality, and a lot of the vision that we had for it involved that,” Babak Parviz, a director at Google X who formerly lead the Glass team and is credited with creating the headset, said in an interview for Myers’ book, “But very quickly it became clear that the state of the technology was not there for us to do it.”
Technology constraints also contributed to Glass’ clunky look, which, despite bringing in a design specialist to help streamline the specs, remained unfashionable. Engineering problems around head shape, the eye box, and optics factories left it impossible to improve at the time, Myers wrote.
While the early-development technology limited the utility for Google Glass upon its debut — it could perform basic searches, display map directions, send and receive messages, take pictures and record short video clips — the avid fanbase behind Google’s device may have carried it through the early years of debugging and troubleshooting if Glass had not also faced tremendous public backlash and what ultimately proved to be an insurmountable marketing problem.
From “Explorers” to “Glassholes”
In its initial announcement about the prototype device, Google released a video titled “One Day” which teased what users may be able to do while wearing Glass — showing a man scheduling his day, responding to messages, and navigating his errands using his glasses. The video immediately attracted viral attention from excited would-be consumers.
Two months later, at the June Google I/O conference in 2012, the Project Glass team demonstrated the power of Glass by livestreaming the view a parachuter had while jumping out of a blimp. The devices were featured on the runway of New York Fashion Week in September 2012. That October, TIME named Glass its “Invention of the Year.”

Glass was wildly anticipated from the moment it was announced and inspired fervor for its futuristic feeling interface, promising an integrated user experience that would be a major advancement in the next generation of wearable technology — two years before the Apple Watch ushered in a wave of people who prefer their accessories computerized.
That anticipation kept Glass in the headlines through its public release. In early 2013, Google hosted a Twitter competition encouraging users to submit what they’d do #IfIHadGlass in hopes of winning a chance to buy a pair of Glass for a $1,500 pricetag, plus travel expenses to pick it up and be trained to use the device in Los Angeles, San Francisco, or New York.
The hefty expense, coupled with an early adopter audience that consisted largely of tech developers and select celebrities, began to shift the public perception of Glass from an exciting innovation for the masses to one which underscored a class divide.
“I believe [Glass] became a reference point of wealth, of being special, and I could feel that— because I would wear it every day and bring it to meetings, or go dancing, go to a party,” Thrun said in Myers’ book. “I was celebrated like a rock star because of it, [which] was shocking in the sense that I’m a geek. I’m in the dork category myself…but it had this effect on people.”
As more people began to explore the world wearing their Glass devices, spotting a pair in the wild became a bit of a digital game. The Tumblr blog “White Men Wearing Google Glass” became popular, documenting “in the wild” encounters with Glass users, and the portmanteau “Glasshole” was popularized to describe users more engaged with their device than reality.
“Glasshole” quickly eclipsed Google’s preferred label of “Explorers” for users of the Glass technology, further damaging its reputation.

Already most heavily adopted by engineers and computer scientists, the image of the Glass user got progressively less cool — with a viral image taken from inside a shower by a Glass user exemplifying the product’s image problem.
“The whole episode was such a carnival of failure that it’s honestly hard to say, but I think you could argue the leading reason Glass failed was Google’s marketing,” Myers wrote in a Reddit thread discussing his book.
The device would have been better marketed as a sport-utility camera like a Go-Pro, Myers wrote, which developers realized too late.
“Instead, Google tried to market Glass as a piece of high fashion. Their argument was that if they wanted people to wear it all day, they had to convince the public that ~cool and hot people~ wear Glass,” Myers wrote. “So they strapped it onto runway models, celebs, and slapped an exorbitant price tag on it to make it seem exclusive. Unfortunately, the only people who took the bait were rich white dudes, and everything else came crashing down when people started realizing Glass couldn’t actually do what Google promised it could do in their now-infamous “One Day” YouTube video.”
Government surveillance and anti-Glass “hate crimes”
Even if Google had been able to overcome some of the concerns around its Glass audience — either by lowering the price point or making them widely available to a broader consumer audience — another blow to its public perception was dealt in June 2013.
That summer, National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden revealed — through a series of whistleblowing leaks — that the government accessed and collected data from Google and other tech companies such as Facebook with a program called PRISM.
While there had been some rumblings about privacy worries among non-Glass users prior to the PRISM revelations, Snowden’s information brought to a head the concerns about covert recordings made by users and whether the government may be able to access views seen through Glass devices. Police departments eyed the technology and the device’s potential as a surveillance tool became more obvious and worrying to the public.
“If PRISM hadn’t happened, maybe the privacy issues may have passed,” Myers told Insider. “I always come back to Google Home and Alexa and when those first came out people were skeptical and didn’t trust it, but now everyone has Ring doorbells and smart speakers.”
Non-Glass users began targeting those wearing the devices in public, shaming and sometimes attacking them for wearing the potentially privacy-violating glasses in public. Glass users, who had already developed a reputation for being out of touch, lamented the “discrimination” they faced for wearing their gadgets in public.

3 Big Crypto Predictions For October 2022 BeInCrypto
3 Big Crypto Predictions For October 2022 – BeInCrypto https://dentoncountynewsonline.com/3-big-crypto-predictions-for-october-2022-beincrypto/
With another month of Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), and most altcoins in red or in a rangebound trajectory all eyes are hoping for greener price charts for top cryptos in the last quarter.
“Wake me up when September ends,” was the predominant sentiment for a majority of cryptocurrency HODLers over the last month. As macro conditions continued to dictate the short-term path for cryptocurrencies, bearish sentiment took over the larger market.
Throughout September, bearish opinions gained much more heat as seen in the red bars below representing how many mentions there are of sell, selling, sold, or bearish.
Source: Santiment
Decreased demand
The total fees spent to use a blockchain presents the willingness to spend and demand to use it. Over the last quarter, Bitcoin fees generated just under $30 million from the network, declining from $42.9 million in Q2 2022.
On the other hand, Ethereum fees dropped even further, from $1.29 billion in Q2 to $264 million in Q3 charting a 79% fall quarter over quarter (q-o-q).
While there was a decrease in blockchain demand, prices held relatively well with Bitcoin in consolidation and Ether appreciating by 30% q-o-q.
Additionally, net flows indicated that while BTC saw a neutral sentiment, ETH saw a more bullish stance as compared to BTC. Bitcoin recorded modest inflows into centralized exchanges of under $50 million, higher than the $192 million net outflows from Q2.
For Ether, over $1 billion ETH left exchanges for the fourth straight quarter, while outflows in Q3 were $57 million lower than those from Q2.
3 things to remember in October
Bitcoin’s price has struggled to keep up with the psychological support barrier of $20,000 throughout September. Without a good pump from whales and retailers, a significant uptick in price seems like a distant dream.
Whale metrics from Santiment presented that there is neither whale accumulation nor major utility in BTC to be excited about at press time.
The key-tier BTC whales who hold between 100 and 10,000 BTC are continuing to dump. Over the past year, these key addresses have dropped 3.5% of the supply to addresses that have much less impact on future price movement. In September alone, another 0.4% of BTC’s supply was dumped. In October a key trend to watch out for is would-be whale accumulation.
The amount of unique BTC moving from address to address remains scarce, which has led the NVT signal to present a bearish signal for a second straight month. An uptick in the same could prove to be a bullish indicator.
A look at BTC funding rates presented another worrying trend where traders are longing gradually more and more when the price doesn’t dump. After the longs get high enough, another dump takes place, traders attempt to short temporarily, and they then give up and begin to long again.
Thus, going forward watching the aforementioned key indicators could be crucial. A reversal in these on-chain metrics could present a bullish turn for BTC, ETH, and the larger market.
