Chalk Paint Vs. Milk Paint - Design Morsels
Have you tried to use chalk paint or milk paint instead of traditional paints? I’m a regular chalk painter (see this chest and this buffet), but I wondered what the difference is. Wonder no more. I’ve tested both types of paint on one piece of furniture as a bit of an experiment to see which...

Glaze (painting technique) - Wikipedia
A glaze is a thin transparent or semi-transparent layer on a painting which modifies the appearance of the underlying paint layer. Glazes can change the chroma, value, hue and texture of a surface. Glazes consist of a great amount of binding medium in relation to a very small amount of pigment.[1] Drying time will depend on the amount and type of paint medium used in the glaze. The medium, base, or vehicle is the mixture to which the dry pigment is added. Different media can increase or decrease the rate at which oil paints dry.

Finding the Perfect Finish
Finding the Perfect Finish
Experienced craftsmen and women all have a "go-to" finish -- a versatile wood finish that takes minimal time and effort to apply. They use this for most projects, simplifying their finishing needs. These needs vary, so Nick shows how to find your personal go-to finish from the hundreds of choices that are available to you. He starts with some basic "coating chemistry" to reduce confusion and help you make an informed choice. Then he walks you though a simple experiment designed to compare the characteristics of popular commercial finishes. 0:00 Intro 1:58 Why Apply a Finish? 4:11 Coating Chemistry 5:32 Coating Processes & Applications 8:52 Spray-on Coating Application 9:35 Brush-on Coating Application 10:00 Wipe-on Coating Application 11:24 Surveying the Available Finishes 13:00 Tested Finishes 14:44 Finish on Glass Test Discussion 15:14 Food Safe Finish Discussion 16:47 Testing the Finishes (Method discussion) 21:08 Hope's Tung Oil Results 21:33 Tried & True Original Linseed Results 22:12 Minwax Tung Oil Finish Results 22:50 General Finishes Wood Bowl Finish Results 23:20 Minwax Antique Oil Finish Results 23:43 Minwax Wipe on Poly Results 24:17 General Finishes Arm-R-Seal Gloss Results 24:46 Baloney-IMHO disclaimer! 25:20 Rudy's Original Wipe-On Finish Formula Nick has gathered high-resolution photos of the test boards and plastic plates he used to compare seven finishes in article titled, "Comparing Wipe-On Finishes." We intentionally start every project meeting with you in your space. We listen and study/observe how you use it today, and how you imagine it in its ideal state. The goal is to get a set of plan.

We can do this multiple way, but what we've found is to start with a quick ballpark figure.

This allows you to wrap your head around the approximate budget of your project.

At this point we would choose which course you'd like to go. The first

( Levels of which plan you'd like to explore. High to low. )

Plans: This is where you can. There are multiples to plan out your project before we start. Develop full 3ds to see your finished project before it's ever built. Whether your curious or serious. Give them an hour.

Rough parameters around your project.

Based on the initial meeting

Ballpark to help guide you down the path.

Next Step: ( Selection ) We explore the colors and textures that give your home personality, and hone in on the finishes that will reflect your taste. Final selections are made, orders are placed, and the schedule is set.

Define and help refine the work your looking for.
