Another New Orleans Guy I Follow

Rolling Stone Magazine called the Filmore East Album one of the major live performances that changed Rock & Roll. Coincidentally, at the same time I was watching Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road doc. Rolling Stone also put that performance at the Filmore East on the same list and at about the same time. It was Elton John's first U.S. performance.

When Allman was a lowly session musician at Muscle Shoals - he pushed a reluctant Pickett to cover Hey Jude. It turned out to be a big hit for Pickett. The guitar work got worldwide notice after that - including Clapton. I didn't think the guitar work was that big of a deal - but i guess it was for that time. He and Clapton got to be close because of that. Quite a lot of "Layla" had contributions by Allman. I think it was recorded in Miami. It is rumored that it was their first meeting and they were glued together for 3 days straight. It's also said that Clapton thought Allman was a better guitarist.
