Ripples of Time - Sand from Ayaskan on Vimeo
Ripples of Time - Sand from Ayaskan on Vimeo
Within a spacetime continuum, time is perceived as the fourth dimension. The past the present and the future is a whole. Ripples of Time, allow natural materials to be shaped by time, reminding us of its presence. The installation consists of two complimentary clocks; Sand and Water. Sand, inspired by Zen Gardens, is the gradual formation and flattening of a ripple pattern over a period of twelve hour cycles. Water, on the other hand, tells the ephemeral time through concentric circles in the form of endless waves that ripple by the second. It is the landscapes and the cycles found in nature,...

Self-Assembly Lab, MIT + Christophe Guberan + Erik Demaine + Autodesk Inc. Project Team: Skylar Tibbits, Christophe Guberan, Athina Papadopoulou, Carrie McKnelly, Chris Martin, Filipe Campos, Hannarae Annie Nam In collaboration with the Institute for Computational Design, University of Stuttgart. Traditional wood-bending techniques require complex steaming equipment, labor-intensive forming processes, and a high degree of expertise. In addition, the natural pattern of wood grain and its physical properties make it difficult to curve into complex shapes. Novel printing and composite materi...

Rain Room by Random International (2012) from RANDOM INTERNATIONAL on Vimeo
Rain Room can be seen as an amplified representation of our environment. Upon entering the installation, visitors are simultaneously exposed to and protected from the water falling all around. Although the sound and smell of the rain are intense, its touch remains absent leaving visitors dry within a continual downpour as they navigate the space. Human presence prevents the rain from falling, creating a unique atmosphere and exploring how human relationships to each other and to nature are increasingly mediated through technology. In Rain Room a seemingly intuitive relationship develops bet...

Polyloge #1 – Hyper-local message feed
Polyloge #1 is an interactive installation and a hyper-local message feed. Through an open WIFI network, users in reach of the wireless signal can send text messages with their smartphones, tablets or computers. These messages get printed immediately on a paper roll that runs in-between two translucent, black boxes and are transformed into a material stream.
