Rain Room can be seen as an amplified representation of our environment. Upon entering the installation, visitors are simultaneously exposed to and protected from the water falling all around. Although the sound and smell of the rain are intense, its touch remains absent leaving visitors dry within a continual downpour as they navigate the space. Project Team: Skylar Tibbits, Athina Papadopoulou, Christophe Guberan, Carrie McKnelly, Chris Martin, Filipe Campos, Hannarae Annie Nam MIT’s Self-Assembly Lab teamed up with Briggs Automotive Company (BAC), a supercar company from the UK, Carbitex, an advanced materials company from Washington state, and Autodesk, to demonstrate the world’s first non-mechanical morphing car airfoil by exploiting the power of programmable materials.

Polyloge #1 is an interactive installation and a hyper-local message feed. Through an open WIFI network, users in reach of the wireless signal can send text messages with their smartphones, tablets or computers. These messages get printed immediately on a paper roll that runs in-between two translucent, black boxes and are transformed into a material stream.
