D3 is one of my favorite mapping tools, largely because it makes me still feel like a cartographer in a land where markers and map tiles reign supreme (though you can find beautiful cartography in map tiles as well!). A partir del siglo XV los cartógrafos fueron enriqueciendo las cartas portulanas, convirtiendo estos instrumentos de navegación en auténticas obras de arte; debido al interés mostrado por las altas esferas de la sociedad en temas como la cartografía, astronomía, navegación, etc., aumentaron su demanda y desarrollaron el gusto por el coleccionismo. De esta manera, este tipo de cartografía consiguió pasar a formar parte de sus ricas bibliotecas como copias de lujo, y gracias a esto hoy se conservan y podemos contemplarlos.
