'E Kū mālo`elo`e' (To Stand Firm) - a short film by Ahilapalapa Rands
On Wed 3rd March 2021 we were delighted to premiere new short film by Ahilapalapa Rands, specially commissioned for our new Forecast programme.
'E Kū mālo`elo`e' (To Stand Firm) is a hypnotic narrative film which disrupts ‘Western’ notions of time, delineation and certainty. It re-focuses the lens to an indigenous perspective, and asks the viewer to confront the ongoing violence inflicted by the colonial project. The facts it recounts are harrowing and urgent.

Moana Fresh is a marketplace and community space celebrating Pacific and Māori artists, creatives and authors indigenous to Moana Nui a Kiwa. We stock and sell works on behalf of more than 50 creatives including artworks, jewellery, ceramics, books and accessories. We actively seek to include and support artists who can face barriers in mainstream art spaces due to race, age, sexuality or formal education. Our whanau includes established artists, newly emerging, self taught and everyone in between. Alongside this we provide studio space, mentoring and exhibiting opportunities through our community hub in Avondale and via our window gallery Kū Kahiko.
