ART REVIEW BY MERCEDES ENG / I want to live inside the elemental pink confection, “Mullyanne Nîmito”—Cheyenne Rain LeGrande’s solo exhibition at grunt gallery last fall. The exhibition’s title comes from the familial nickname “Mullyanne” that both LeGrande and her mother—known for their fashion style—were given after a Nêhiyaw elder in the community, who LeGrande said, would "Natohksisot—dress in all kinds of ways.” The centrality of fashion and style is in full effect in the exhibition.

Mullyanne Nîmito - Creative Access Description Tour by gruntGallery
A creative access audio tour of the exhibition: Mullyanne Nîmito by Cheyenne Rain LeGrande, curated by Whess Harman. The show runs at grunt gallery from September 17th - October 30th, 2022. Written By Kay Slater and Keimi Nakashima-Ochoa, narrated by Keimi Nakashima-Ochoa. Edited by Dustyn Krasowski-Olmstead. In this exhibition, LeGrande brings together language, pull tabs and the transference of familial craft knowledges to deliver visceral performances across grief and into reclamation. Striking somewhere between fashion glam and land-based practices, LeGrande, a recent alumni of Emily Carr University of Art and Design, returns to the coast in high-style, ever sick and standing always at least three-inches taller in her signature platforms.
