Sabermetrics is the original or blanket term for sports analytics, the empirical analysis of baseball, especially the development of advanced metrics based on baseball statistics that measure in-game activity. The term is derived from the movement's progenitors, members of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR), founded in 1971, and was coined by Bill James, who is one of its pioneers and considered its most prominent advocate and public face.

Federal milk marketing orders are established under the authority of the Agricultural Marketing Agreement Act of 1937, as amended. The Secretary of Agriculture is authorized by this statute, under certain conditions and with producer approval, to issue milk marketing orders that require handlers to pay at least the minimum specified prices for milk purchased from producers. The complete orders are published in the U. S. Code of Federal Regulations, Parts 1000 to 1199.

Some parts of the nation have seen localized spikes in milk prices. But most of the nation is facing an oversupply of milk — a challenge policy makers have been struggling to address.

While Canada's dairy sector operates under a regulated supply management system, the U.S. government's support for its dairy farmers is less direct.
