Facebook Yarn Unravels Dependency Management Issues for JavaScript Packages - The New Stack
Facebook Yarn Unravels Dependency Management Issues for JavaScript Packages - The New Stack
Facebook has released as open source a new JavaScript package manager the company developed in conjunction with Google, Exponent and Tilde, called Yarn. Yarn is designed to be a faster, more reliable and more secure npm client that retains access to the vast npm (Node Package Manager) registry while solving issues that arose when Facebook, among other…

It's All Just Software
It's All Just Software
I had a meeting with a customer (let's call her Kate) last week, and she wanted some changes to a web-based messaging application that my group owns and manages. That meeting didn't exactly go as planned. Blame Tennis Here's how the conversation between myself and Kate went: Matthew: OK, so

Differentiable neural computers | DeepMind
Differentiable neural computers | DeepMind
In a recent study in Nature, we introduce a form of memory-augmented neural network called a differentiable neural computer, and show that it can learn to use its memory to answer questions about complex, structured data, including artificially generated stories, family trees, and even a map of the London Underground. We also show that it can solve a block puzzle game using reinforcement learning.

Compiling to the web with Rust and emscripten - The Rust Programming Language Forum
Hey there, you slithery Rustilian. Have you heard the good word? Rust can now target asm.js and WebAssembly (wasm) via emscripten. That means you can run Rust code on the web, and this capability is available on Rust nightlies right now! Let me tell you how to Rust the web. First, a disclaimer. This support is still a work in progress and there are going to be a whole lot of bugs (report them, you better). It’s at the stage where it passes the test suite, but has not been vetted on real pr...

Programming a 144-computer Chip to Minimize Power
Programming a 144-computer Chip to Minimize Power
Chuck Moore discusses what it takes to program a 144-core asynchronous chip that consumes only 7 pJ/inst, the idle cores taking just 100 nW while the active ones need 4mW running at 666 Mips: tight coding to minimize the number of instructions executed, reducing instruction fetches, transistor switching, and duty cycle.

Why I care about Segment Routing - The Forwarding Plane | The Forwarding Plane
Edit: Going against my normal “just get the content out there” methodology, I’ve been mulling over this blog post since July of 2016.  Segment routing is such a beautifully elegant solution I have had trouble articulating that fact. WAN technologies are squarely within my wheelhouse, and this one fits in so well I was going…
