In which a person has read the books, has seen the movies, has scoured the Wikia and Pottermore, and consumed and written sooo much fanfiction, but imagining what it would be like in a story is so much different than how they themselves would make of things. Together, they learn how to communicate, how to ask for things, and how to touch each other. Their relationship develops in between quiet dinners in the Jingshi, meditation sessions, core training and a lot of Lan Juniors speculation on whether or not they're actually together yet.

A modern day canon rewrite (contains elements from both the novel and the live-action, tweaked to fit the premise). Junior year starts off with adequate sleep, more sugar-infested coffee, and the return of a Lan that turns Wei Wuxian's world upside down in the best way possible. Lan Wangji is an emergency cursebreaker, splitting his life between graveyard shifts at the hospital and navigating parenthood, as he and his adopted son still struggle as a family minus one. Sizhui barely remembers Wei Wuxian, but Lan Wangji is haunted by him in a very practical sense - an offshoot of Wei Wuxian's soul, split from its master at the moment of his death, lives in Lan Wangji's city apartment. This offshoot of soul, called a 'slake', possesses all of Wei Wuxian's hubris and deadly power. None of his kindness. Lan Wangji loves it anyway. With all his love directed at a nightmare, Lan Wangji has nothing left but shock when Wei Wuxian returns, summoned into a new body. Wei Wuxian doesn't know how he returned or even how he died, and remembers nothing he did as the horrific Yiling Laozu. Lan Wangji is left with a choice - reunite the two halves and risk unleashing the Yiling Laozu on the world once more, or leave Wei Wuxian powerless to address the unfinished business of his last life.
