He then feels compelled to add, “and how do you know you’ve never met one?” Yibo blinks, and then his eyes sharpen. “I would know, wouldn’t I?” Xiao Zhan smiles. “Would you?” It’s no fault of Xiao Zhan’s that he’s the first earthwitch most people have knowingly met; however he’s about to find out that there’s no one quite like Wang Yibo.

“I was afraid that the next time you walked into my life, I wouldn’t know how we fit together,” Alec whispers. “I was worried that something inside of me, inside of you, would’ve changed, because things always change after this long, but - it hasn’t.” Beneath Alec’s palm, Washington lies hidden. The children climb on his lap and ignore his instructions and say things like “he’s dead” with a careless lilt in their voices. Whatever the Yiling Patriarch is doing, whatever Wei Wuxian wants, Lan Wangji does not think it is an act of war. So he does not say, “I am here to neutralize the Yiling Patriarch.” He does not say, “Sentiment is gathering against you.” He does not say, “First liberate, second suppress, third eliminate.” Lying is forbidden, so Lan Wangji bows his head and says something true: “The Lan sect has very recently learned of seven disciples living in Yiling. I have come to attend their education.”

Rumors start to circulate that the GusuLan Sect has been pressuring Lan Wangji to find a cultivation partner to further extend his longevity, due to his spiritual prowess. But war erupts amongst the clans and no one has time for things like cultivation partners. Wei Wuxian becomes what he must to help win the war. When it's over, the talk of Hanguang-Jun taking a cultivation partner resurfaces. Wei Wuxian is now less suitable of a partner, since he has been labeled a demonic cultivator. Wei Wuxian knows better than to wish for things he can't have. But he doesn't understand why Lan Wangji spends so much time night hunting with him instead of choosing a cultivation partner like he promised his clan.

Wei Ying always thought he’d make an excellent isekai protagonist. But because of his terrible luck stat, rather than being transported into some high fantasy realm full of knights and cute elven princesses, he finds himself stuck inside his little sister’s favorite BL novel instead. Even with his physics-breaking OP protagonist cheat powers, he still has to find a way out of this mess while staying as far (and platonically) away from the opposite male lead as possible. A modern otaku fanboy Wei Ying is transmigrated into MDZS with the ability to code the world around him like his own personal Minecraft server, and has a big ancient chinese gay panic in the process.

Wei Ying knew all along that something would go terribly wrong during Wen Chao's ski trip, but even he couldn't have guessed he'd end up snowed into a cabin with Lan Zhan.

Wei Wuxian is staring up at the sky, thinking idly about the taste of Emperor’s Smile on his tongue, when Suibian jumps full force onto his stomach and cries, “A-Xian, don’t be mad!” The sheer force of her pounce knocks the breath out of him. The resulting pause is just long enough for Jiang Cheng, who up to this point has been laying rather peacefully next to him, to shoot up and demand, “Oh great, what did you do now?” To be fair, the question isn’t exactly unwarranted. Suibian looks an absolute mess: twigs stuck in her fur, dirt smeared across the white fluff of her underbelly. She’s panting up a storm, little heh heh heh gasps that haven’t edged into her normal high-pitched laughter. When her ears press back against her head, she could almost pass for pitiful. “Bichen hates me.” Wei Wuxian’s first thought is Why would Lan Zhan’s daemon hate you?, but it’s followed quickly by remembering exactly where he is, how little trouble he’s caused today, and the fact that he hasn’t seen Suibian for a few minutes. A grin spreads across his face. (Or: The most important name a cultivator will ever pick isn’t for their sword. It’s for their daemon.)
