A selfie clicked by senior advocate Syed Mahmood Hasan with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Lucknow court on July 15, during Gandhi’s appearance in a defamation case over remarks about Indian soldiers, went viral with a misleading claim. Many, including BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya, falsely claimed the selfie was taken by the judge hearing the case. Malviya’s post spread rapidly on social media before he deleted it after fact-checkers debunked the claim. Advocate Hasan also clarified on Facebook that he is not a judge. Despite clarifications, some people did not take down their social media posts spreading misinformation.
