Thread 4) The willful neglect of children during this pandemic will go down in history as among the most sociopathic heinous political decisions of the pandemic. Here are record after record for pediatric #COVID19 hospitalizations in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿— just continued surges of kids in 🏥 w/ #Omicron

Thread Now that the kid has their first vaccine AND a sample for antibody test, there will be 3-4 weeks to confirm if the child has antibodies to COVID.

This long period of time offers tons of flexibility to ensure a highly accurate result is obtained - I’ll give examples below

Thread 1/🧵 “Let kids get #Covid”

This struthious (ostrich-like) mantra is wrong-headed.

✅ Kids can get super sick w #COVID ✅ Kids can suffer #LongCovid ✅ Kids spread virus to vulnerable adults ✅ Kids wears #masks proudly ✅ Kids should be #vaccinated when able

Thread I'm sorry to point out that @GaDPH has a newly reported pediatric death from COVID-19 in today's report. He was a 9 year old boy from Richmond county. His is the 17th pediatric death since the start of the pandemic. I'm so very sorry for his family, his community, his care team.

Thread Per the AAP, 174 kids have died of Covid since this was posted.

This article did not even acknowledge children could die from the virus.

Thread Someone told me that school opening in Ohio wasn't going as badly as they thought it would, and the feared exponential growth wasn't happening.🤷‍♀️

Ohio pediatric hospitalizations are clearly on an exponential rise. We just aren't testing enough to capture it. High % positivity.

People who minimized the risks in schools and to children more generally; those who said prevention methods were harmful or ineffective…

These are your results. You helped undermine the faith and willpower of communities to do what was needed to take action.

Own it.

#COVID19 Pediatric (<16) Case Fatality Rate (CFR) has quintupled over the last five weeks. While this CFR is still very low, 0.014%, it does make it extremely important that kids avoid getting infected and hospitalized as much as possible. @GovRonDeSantis must stop killing kids.

Thread: I made these threads of #kidsandcovid bc people were saying that kids couldn't or wouldn't get COVID. They do.

They also spread it.

We don't know what the virus will do longer term & are just facing how it spreads.

This a collection of news reports, tweets, and studies. 1/4

Not sure how this can be described as 'reassuring' at all. 1 in 7 children having persistent symptoms at 15 weeks with ~34,000 children estimated to be affected (very similar to ONS estimates). Quite shocked by some of the media spin I've seen on this.🧵

I just had a very sobering phone call with Dr. Mark Kline, infectious disease expert, & physician in chief at Children’s Hospital New Orleans. He told me: •18 kids are hospitalized with COVID •9 are under the age of 2 •6 r n ICU •3 are on ventilators, including a 1 month old

Just now 6 kids are in hospital with Covid in Fl pneumonia is a given, here’s what a 9 yr old with pneumonia looks like. He spent 3 days in P-ICU 6 days in all in the hospital. If you could prevent a child from going through this just by wearing masks why the hell wouldn’t you?
