“New-onset psychiatric symptoms directly related to SARS-CoV-2 virus infection are not rare phenomena among pediatric patients. CSF tests support the presence of central immune responses in some patients.
Our patients developed psychiatric symptoms within 2 weeks of virus infection. In a small portion of patients (2/10, 20%), positive findings in CSF (cerebro-spinal fluid) suggest intracranial immune response and disruption of the blood–brain barrier (BBB).. EEG showed epileptic wave in one child (1/9, 11%) and slow background rhythm or slow wave activities in five children (5/9, 55%).. [Among six children whose cytokine levels in CSF were measured,] one-third (2/6, 33.3%) had increased IL-8 levels, which indicates IL-8 in the central nervous system may be involved in the mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2 virus-induced psychiatric symptoms. Increased IL-8 levels in CSF have been reported in brain infection and head injury.. We also detected elevated IgG level, albumin quotient, and positive oligoclonal band in the CSF in another two children, which supports the disrupted blood–brain barrier and central autoimmune reaction theory."
“In the most expansive study of its kind, researchers have for the first time shown serious and prevalent symptoms of #LongCovid in kids and teens.
The study, which followed 5367 children, found that 20% of kids (ages 6-11) and 14% of teens met researchers' threshold for LC”
“Children infected with Covid at risk of blood vessel damage that can trigger clots, scientists warn
VIRTUALLY all children infected with Covid suffer from serious blood vessel damage, scientists have warned.”
“Far from rare, long COVID in kids is devastating families. Experts say schools can do more to help their students…
…”Schools must make it safe for all children that attend, whether they currently suffer from #LongCovid or not,” Robertson said. “Many children are.. just one more infection away from developing the debilitating effects of long COVID.”
“Children after Covid infection(s) 2 min version I will post a longer version on YouTube What are we doing?”
“Earlier that summer, my daughter tested positive for Covid-19 and had developed a high fever, shortness of breath, shivers, and chest pains. She initially regained her energy and by the time school started, I thought she had recovered. I was wrong. That night I found her lying on the couch was the beginning of my daughter’s difficult journey with Long Covid — a journey that transformed her life, and mine as a single mother.”
Studies show that up to 70% of people who get infected from COVID-19 suffer from organ damage—especially adolescents and children.
This takes a while to find; they may not notice symptoms until a year or more later.
And that's just the damage tha
Thread New study documents the case of two previously healthy sisters - 11 and 13-years-old - with new-onset cognitive decline after mild covid. The ability of their brains to consume glucose had been impaired - an initiating factor for dementia, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease 🧵
Thread POST-COVID & Kids🚨
New @CDCgov report showing quite clearly that children are at significantly more risk for life-threatening diagnoses after COVID infection. Very convincing evidence that prevention of COVID-19 in children is very important to reduce childhood mortality.
