CDC infection control body rejects the science on airborne transmission
“For many disabled and immunocompromised people, hospital settings are a significant threat to health and safety. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, nosocomial- or healthcare acquired- SARS-COV-2 infections have been an additional risk for sick and vulnerable people seeking care. As of today, there have still been no updates to national-level guidance to reflect that SARS-COV-2 was determined to be airborne in 2021.”

COVID-19 hitches a ride on mucus to spread deep into lungs, live imaging shows.

Investigators observed that the movement of mucus can spread the COVID-19 virus inside the respiratory tract, where it later forms aerosols that infect other people.

Comparing strategies for the mitigation of SARS-CoV-2 airborne infection risk in tiered auditorium venues

study on COVID-19 in auditoriums found displacement ventilation minimized infection risk, while natural ventilation had highest spread.

Masks, shorter events, and lower occupancy helped reduce risks.

This is my 15th semester teaching RN and NP students about Covid 19 pathophysiology. Not a lot has changed except for how much damage we now know the virus causes. It still baffles me that people don’t know it’s airborne, don’t know the risks. 1

“Over four years later, things are changing. The WHO now finally and fully recognizes COVID-19 is airborne at the institutional level, and has made one of the world’s top aerosol scientists co-chair of their new indoor air advisory group. The WHO also collaborated with particle physicists to develop ARIA, the Airborne Risk Indoor Assessment tool, which models risk of infection for different types of buildings and settings to help us understand how to make indoor air clean.”

🧵 I think I have a very unique & valuable perspective when it comes to SARS-CoV-2. I've spent the 1st three years of the pandemic in one of the the busiest hospital based chemistry/bloodgas labs in the US & the last 20 months as a generalist in a medium sized hospital. 1/

Can the infection risk in elevators be negligible? A comparative study of airborne infection probability in elevators and conference rooms

“this study investigated the airborne transmission of respiratory diseases in the hospital elevator by comparison to the conference room.”

“The results showed that the infection probability in the elevator with 5 min was higher than that in the conference room with 50 min.”
